has anyone seen/ read the death note anime/manga?

I have. I really like the series. I've been reading the manga since last year, but, I got spoiled of the ending by accident (meaning, I know who dies at the end and how), and haven't read past like Volume 8. I'll go back to it eventually.

I'm watching its anime now and have seen the first movie. I really enjoyed the movie. I can't wait to get the opportunity to see the second film. I heard that it ended differently than the manga did. As for the anime so far, it's been very close to its manga counterpart, even dialogue. That's another reason why I'm not reading it much, because of the anime being so pure to the manga.

i thought that the first half of the movie was good but after ray penbar died it got bad because they changed so much stuff

I actually liked the movie, mainly because of Naomi's character, and how they expanded on it compared to both the manga and the anime. She was more active and wasn't tricked by Raito as easily as she was in the manga/anime since for that, she had no suspicions of him.

Yes, it's one of the most brilliant mangas I've ever read. Definitely one of my favorites. Personally, I like Part One better, as that's the more edgy one, as you never knew what L or Light was going to do next. I haven't got to see the anime yet, I may wait until Part One is shown in its entitety then get it.

Hey all! Today is the birthday of Yagami Raito! He was born February 28, 1986. lolI haven't seen the movie yet, but would really like to.Movie 1 is really good. Yep yep. I really liked it, and the guy that plays his father, I'm sure quite a few people here will recognize him right off. *Nods*

That aside, the actor who plays Raito's character in the movie (Fujiwara Tatsuya) is just too darn hot and cute!!!

Yeah, I've heard from a lot of people to watch it because of Fujiwara Tatsuya; and looking at the picture of him, he seems to fit the part well.

I read the manga up to a certain character died coz after that it got messed up. I'm watching the anime and I like the colors and the ost. :D

The movie was dissapointing to me because the casting was really bad.

Tatsuya Fujiwara doesn't exactly struck me as a cunning sly intellegent serial killer that is Raito.

Erika Toda isn't cute and annoying enough as Amane Misa, she's almost too human for me.

Kenichi Matsuyama isn't freak enough to be L. I've seen a girl play better L in a cosplay and I'm not only talking about costume-wise (imo, Matsuyama's hair wasn't long and messy enough :P ), I really mean acting like L.

The Last Name was better though

Hey all! I recently got into Death Note and have watched all episodes, but haven't read the manga. I really like it, it's definitely one of my favourite anime and the storyline has been made very intelligently. The anime seems to have lost some of its suspense though, after the Ray Penbar and Naomi incidents and when Light joined the investigation team. Did anyone else get the same feeling? Hopefully it will be more exciting after the Yotsuba arc. I also watched the first movie - it was ok, but nothing compared to the anime.

THe movie is much different from the anime and the manga. The anime and manga, though, are very close. Even most of the dialogue is the same. As for Raito joining the investigation team, I really wouldn't say that it truly lost its suspense, but I'm only saying that because I know what happens next.

As for the Yotsuba arc...when I got to that point in the manga, I grew a bit bored since it wasn't really dealing with Raito anymore, since he doesn't have his memory of ever owning a Deathnote.

I only put that in a spoiler tag since I'm not sure if everyone's seen up to this point of the anime.

Am I the only one who actually liked the movie for what it was? I haven't seen the second one yet. I do agree with Raito being badly cast, partially. Maybe with Fujiwara Tatsuya you can't get that "serial killer" vibe, or whatever, but, at least he looks good. =P

Hold on, let me explain that. Remember, in both the manga and the anime Raito's character is supposed to be goodlooking, which also aids his inflated ego. To me, Tatsuya is really goodlooking. lol

I think they only casted him for a big name. I didn't like him as Raito at all, but I thought the guy playing L was great.

Something I always find weird about manga movies is that most of the time characters in manga are caucasian and blonde but still meant to be Japanese, but in the movies of course they have to use normal Japanese people, so it always loses its manga-ness. And so for me Misa was a bit too plain and not gothic enough. I thought the shinigami were great though.

SSJ_Jup81
March 7th, 2007, 7:13 pm
I haven't seen The Last Name yet, but I was surprised to see Misa without blonde hair. It's not that uncommon over there for people to have dyed hair.

Oh, for the first movie, what [i]really]/i] got me, was the fact that Ray Penbar was Japanese, when, for the manga, he was supposed to have been American.

As for the other characters, though, even in the manga, they come across as "Japanese". Okay, well, not all of them. I'm mostly thinking of the investigation team.

I read what happens at the end of the second Deathnote movie. I'm not sure I particularly care for it, though. Of course I'm not going to judge it until I've actually seen the second movie, though. The stuff dealing with Raito's father seems interesting enough...and in a way...for the manga, I really wished he would've known what type of a son he had, like the movie did. I also read that Misa doesn't kill herself. Hm, I don't remember the part with ray very well. But he was working for the FBI so he must have been American. Maybe he just didn't have an accent in the movie. He was in Japan to meet Naomi's parents, because they were engaged, iirc.

SSJ_Jup81
March 9th, 2007, 2:19 pm
I saw the movie; his name was Ray Penbar as far as I could tell. I could look at it again to see what it says on his ID when showing it to Raito, even though I'm positive it did have "Ray Penbar" written in Roman letters. The main reason I get the impression that Ray's character was supposed to have been "American" was due to how he wrote. He didn't write in Japanese. Even when writing down the other members of the FBI team he was with, he wrote down their names in Roman letters, not in Katakana for both the movie and the anime I'm sure.

Death Note is great. I've seen all of the episodes in the anime (only three more left! Aw, I'll miss it) and have read a few chapters of the manga.

I like this manga ok. I'd read all of the chapters I knew that my prediction on who will die and the consequences of the Death Note came true. I haven't seen the anime though. My only gripe for this manga is too much talking. The bubble almost dominate the panels and overwhelm the drawings. Other than that, I think it's an interesting manga.

So far, there really haven't been many changes for the anime, 'cept for ep 25 with all that subtle Ryuuzaki > Raito hinting. :p

The main reason for this, is probably because of the fact that the manga series is already finished, so there's no need for filler episodes since the manga was finished before the anime was even started.

*looks at signature and avatar* yes.. yes I do like Death Note... I think its safe to say Im a little obsessed haha...

I started off reading the manga which I adore. I really liked the two movies. Sure they werent exactly accurate (the first one was until the last hour or so) but they were good for what they were. They made a huge casting mistake with Raito but L (the actor) was perfect. He looked exactly like he was in the manga and exactly how I imagined. Ryuk was great too.
THe end of the second movie was incredibly depressing though...

Apparently thats not what happens in the end of the manga (Im only up to the 8th) for which Im very glad. It seemed weird of Ryuk to write Raito's name in his Death Note... he was always so emotionless, detatched and on nobody's side.

Im only half way through the third episode of the anime but dont like it as much as the manga/movies.

Did anyone else start getting a mit muddled around the fifth book? Maybe it was just me but it just seemed to jump around a bit.

Raito made a mistake with his "order". He told Ryuk to kill everyone there. He didn't specify not to include himself, so Ryuk wrote his name down, and also told Raito that since he used the Deathnote, that he'll go to neither heaven nor hell. There was also more to it, but I can't remember it right off. The main thing I do recall, was that Ryuk didn't want to stay attached to Raito if he was going to jail.Im only half way through the third episode of the anime but dont like it as much as the manga/movies.I'm surprised. The anime is 100% like the manga. This is the only series I've ever watched, where the anime was nearly a mirror of its manga counterpart (even though the manga is already done). There are hardly any changes what-so-ever for the anime, 'cept for minor things, like how Raito and Misa ended up in the same restaraunt before literally meeting or the whole "second Kira" stuff started up.

I personally feel that the adaptation was very well done, unlike stuff like Shin Shirayuki-hime Densetsu Pretear, where the anime, imo, ruined the series and was a bad adaptation, even though the manga was already finished by the time the anime came out. It has no filler, but the changes were annoying.Did anyone else start getting a mit muddled around the fifth book? Maybe it was just me but it just seemed to jump around a bit.Is that when all that Yotsuba stuff started up? If so, then yeah, it did. To be honest, until the anime got up to that point, I'd stopped reading the manga. The Yotsuba stuff was boring me, but I gave it another chance when the anime got to those eps, and I found it more interesting this time. I wanted to stay ahead of the anime. Too bad I couldn't for the last three eps 35-37 since that's Volume 12 stuff. I haven't read it yet. I refuse to read scanlations of the series or anything, and sticking with the US release of it.

That aside, you can download episodes of it...legally. I know I mentioned it in the Bleach topic, if I remember right. You have to go to the official site (US) and you have to get a program and stuff to watch it. You can choose whether or not you want to watch the dub version, or the subtitled version.

I refused to read it scanlated, since I don't care for reading manga on a screen in general (unless it's a series that I know will never make it to the states, like Sailor V or the many Legends of Zelda manga series), so I decided to collect this one since it was recommended to me. I got spoiled of the ending though, so I already knew what was coming.

This series was definitely a good read, and the anime, I felt, did a very good job of keeping both the anime and the manga close. I still wonder if the states will bring over that "How to read Deathnote" volume. I would still like to know how one's lifespan is determined.

I know there are exceptions, but this is usually the case when it comes to anime.

The good thing about the anime, is that it wasn't dragged down by filler because the manga was already finished by the time the anime started in Japan.

I started reading a few days ago. L is still alive at the moment and I don't look forward to his death. He's a great character. A weirdo, but cool.

Often I feel that I missed important stuff on previous pages, which are important later. So I consult other sites to explain it to me (this is how I spoil myself). Some of the explanations to why what happens is rather mind-bogglingly confusing, it makes my brain hurt. Still can't stop reading though.

I think Misa is rather obnoxious, weak and useless. I don't know what Rem found in her.
