Am I the only one re-reading book 1-6 before summer?

I will be re-reading all the books! I always do

I started rereading a month ago. I'm almost finnished with book four. I'm really glad I'm doing it. There's a lot of things that I've forgotten that I've refreshed my memory with.

I am currently halfway through OotP for my current read through. I will defiantly be doing another read through before DH comes out!

I am sad to know that this summer will be the last time I read without knowing how it all will end.

I'm gonna wait till like May to read HBP so the last story is still very fresh in my mind come the summer.

I started rereading yesterday. I'm planning on finishing OoTP the day before the movie comes out. And then I'll finish HBP July 19th, allowing me a day off before the book comes out.

I'm reading Prisoner of Azkaban. I was already reading it when I found out about the release date so I plan on finishing it and then moving onto the others starting with SS/PS. It's often hard to find time to read being so busy with school and all, but once summer is here I know I will be reading much more.

You're not the only one at all. Plenty of people are rereading, as this thread has clearly shown. :D I will be too, it's a tradition for me since OotP and I'll probably be doing it a few months before DH. I think it's too soon at the moment, as I read tons of other stuff besides just Harry Potter.

No, I'm waiting a little longer, and then I'm going to attempt to time it right so that I finish ootp right before the movie, then hbp as fast as possible for the next book a week later... Am I crazy? either way, wish me luck!

I am re-reading the series before July 21st. It's been a while since I've read them and I'm catching hints as I'm reading them. Though I'm NOT a big fan of GOF--so I might skip through it. Right now I'm re-reading COS. Hopefully I will have it timed that I've just finished HBP around the end of June or so. Although it's the book I keep on referring to as far as those vital Snape questions go.

I'm not a big fan of GOF either, but don't skip it, you'll regret it later when you dont get some huge foreshadowing

I'm rereading HBP, even though I don't like it as much as OoP (other than the fact that I don't have OoP on the bookshelf!). And I found that my memory of the series has been deteriorating fast, so reading the book again is kind of fun.

I just started re-reading PS about a week ago and plan to read them all before DH comes out. I am hoping that I can read up to OP by the time the movie comes out, and then speed though (lovingly) HBP so that I am all caught up for DH!! Hopefully 9 days is enough to get in 607 pages!!! :lol:

I'm definately going to reread HBP, to refresh my memory.
Though I think I may reread them all, the only thing stopping me from this is getting to OotP because it makes me sad and I end up not wanting to finish it haha..I'm a dork.

I am pretty sure that I'm going to reread the series during the summer before the seventh book comes out. I will most likely look for clues hidden between the words. If I'm not, then I will reread the series for fun and to jog my memory of all the important stuff in the books. Or maybe I will do both. I don't know. I think I will do both. Maybe I should just post this and be done with this. I think I will.:lol:

Nope,i want to read them like aweek before DH comes out,and before that I would have probably re read them all at least once,if harry hits the bucket I dont know if ill handle re reading them ,so I want to enjoy them all one final time before I know the end.

I'm re-reading them. I'll really start tomorrow, when I'll be in the car for eight hours... Oh, ****, I just realized. My set is at the back of the pile! The only one I have out is the first!! There's no way it will last me the whole way!! ARG!!

I'm going to start re-reading them as soon as I've finished a book I'm currently reading. I'm not sure if I'll be able to read the first four books: I've read them so many times that sometimes they just appear lifeless. I don't know OOTP or HBP anywhere near as well though, so they'll definitely be re-read.

I had a week off school, so I attempted to read all six books in a week, but it ended up being more like two weeks.

I have been non-committal about re-reading so far. I think I have decided that I will go ahead and re-read 1 - 6 before DH comes out. I know that I am not alone when I say that every time I re-read them, I find something new, and who knows, that thing I find this time may be important in DH.

I'm re-reading at the moment... my collection is packed up for a big house move:grumble:

So I am relying on public library, so logically I am thinking everyone else will be checking them out in the weeks leading up to all the releases this summer - I have them all out at the moment... I am now on the second read through of this check out time! I'm back up to HBP... and the book it due back on the 30th :relax:

I know I am going to find it very annoying after I have read GH that I don't have the other books to reference at hand. Oh well at least I should have the internet!

I'm currently rereading HBP, but I plan to read them all through again once I finish that. I keep getting side-tracked, though, with reading HP theory books! I have purchased several and now find myself wanting to reread them, too!

Some other posters talked about wanting to remember the experience of reading the books before we know the ending, and I couldn't agree more. I think it is such an exciting time for us HP fans. We get to live the anticipation, the debate. It will be completely different once we get our hands on DH. I almost don't want July 21 to come!

I have been re reading them for the last 2 - 4 weeks. I'm hald paceing myself, im currently about to start the chapter "Padfoot returns" in GoF. I am hopeing to be able to read HBP twice as im not very familiar with it.

yep...i'm re-reding now too. i'm taking it slow though, trying to pick up any important information that might be hidden. Currently, I'm in the early part of COS. My best friend is in the middle of the series as well.:cool:

I was holding off re-reading them until it was confirmed that the book was coming out on the 21st of july which happened on the 6th of Feb so i started reading them again then.

I worked out that there would be approximately the same number of chapters in the 6 books as there were days before the release so i had planned to read a chapter a night and read it out loud to really get into it since the first 3 books i find hard to read as i know the books inside out.

Anyways, this worked well through PS/SS and CoS but i love PoA so started reaing faster and I hadnt read goblet of fire for ages so that was really good to read and now i'm already on OotP but it's a long book so i'm going slower now.

I also plan to not read any books between finishing HBP and starting DH as so to feel like i've not left the HP world but i'm not sure if i actually do that since i'm on holiday just before the book comes out and reading is essential to travelling!

I have heard both US (Jim Dale) and UK (Stephen Fry) version and have to say I prefer Fry --- just working on HBP again:lol:

I'm re-reading the whole series, one chapter every morning. Right now I am well into GOF, and on track to finish HBP about July 19th. Reading the books slowly has let me notice and absorb detail that I missed the first few times through. The books are so amazing because they just get better and better!

i have also reread the books at one point . i am on book 5 of the harry potter books. ialso have them on tapes and cds so i can read them faster. i also have all of the movies. i have all six of the books. i am just waiting for the 6 th book to come out.cant wait till movie number five comes out :welcome: :gryff: :sad:

Although I've already read them all tons of times, I'll definitely be reading through them again. Knowing exactly when to start on them may be a slight problem...you don't want to be done too soon, and you don't want to be half-way through HBP when July 21st rolls around. I'll start my re-read at the beginning of June...should be enough time, and will hopefully leave a week or so to let them sink in in preparation for DH.

In my opinion, Umbridge, Grawp, and constantly angry Harry, take away from what is an otherwise excellent book....:shrug:

I read the first four again a few months ago because I realised I remember the story of the films better than the books but obviously the films aren't completely true to the story. I want to have the true story toppermost in my mind before reading the new one! I'm going to read all 6 starting in May so that I have a week each for books 1-3 and two weeks each for 4-6 and that'll take me to July 21st, eep!

I will probably try and read them before the summer. But I can get really busy sometimes, so it probably won't work out reading all of them. I will try my best to read the 5th and 6th again just so that I remember where we stand and what important facts we still haven't found out.

I totally agree with you. Therefore I`m glad that I finished OotP yesterday at last and I have started with HBP in the morning.

Just finished re-reading Books 1-6 straight through.

So many, many pages turned down in every volume--Madam Pince will ban me from the Hogwarts Library for life :rockon:

Now to go back and cross check all the turned down pages and see if I can find the hidden pattern(s) to the entire series.

I just started PS again about a week ago, actually. I'm trying to go slow with them this time, because although I know that these next few months will just fly by, I really want to be able to remember reading the earlier books without knowing the ending.

Well, there goes that idea :rolleyes: I got about half way through and forgot about it. Like DarkDaysAhead, summer's going to be really busy and I've all ready got a lot to read, so I'm going to leave it until the last fortnight now. I know I'll get it done if I'm on a proper schedule.

I have already re-read them in March. Would it be pathetic to start again? I anticipated it taking longer to get through them but it only took a few weeks. I have plenty of time to read them again before July.

I've been rereading, but only 5 and 6. Don't really have the time to reread the whole entire series - 5 and 6 takes almost as much time as the first four books do all together.

I finished re-reading the books about a four days ago, which admittedly is why I remembered to come here after two years...I needed something to read and distract me, and now I'm glad I did. :D

i'm going to re-read the books 10 days b4 DH comes out. Books 1-3 will take a day each. 4-6 might take a day or 2. i just finished reading 5 and 6. OOTP is my fave.

I'm not re-reading...but rather reading for the first time---despite the fact that I've seen all four movies thus far. My sons are interested in reading the books, and I thought I'd set the example and do it first.

I started Sorceror's Stone About three weeks ago...right now I'm on Chapter 23 of Order of the Phoenix, "Christmas on the Closed Ward."

These books really do get better as they go along, I must say...before I started reading them, I'd heard how they get 'darker' and 'more advanced,' etc., as one gets deeper into the canon. This is certainly true. But it's not as if Rowling's style of prose changes (because I don't think that's the case); however the weave of the overall narrative tapestry undoubtedly grows more complex. Harry's appreciation of the dangers he faces grows apace with his development (albeit prematurely) as a very powerful wizard...and his progression toward adulthood.

This is just riveting stuff. I'm a huge fan :cool:

I've worked out that if I read one chapter every one and a half days, I'll be finished HBP by the second week in July. I've just started Phoenix, ( for the 100th time) just on Chapter 3.......actually, I wish tomorrow was D-Day, 21/07/07!

I am, I am just about finished the PS. I have had this book for about 7 Years I think. The page`s are yellowing (but I like that for some reason). I will probably finish it tonight and start the CoS tomorrow.

It is official! I have removed my HP books on CD's from their shelf, and I have decided that I will re listen to at least book 5 and 6 before the book release.

I guess I'll be re-reading them. It's been a while. I've been busy with school, working through Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, a few books in between (like Orson Scott Cards Women of Genesis), and regular work. I don't remember if I did that when book six came out, as my family and I were traveling at the time.

*heh* I was in sixth grade when the first book came out. I steared clear of Harry Potter for a while because of the popularity. I was reading Anne McCaffery's dragon books.

i am on book 2 atm and will continue to read 3, 4, 5 & finish 6 one day or two b4 DH is released! i think its good to re-read the books, re-freshes your mind and gives you a better understanding of where ur at when starting the new one!

I tried putting off re-reading for ages because I know I am a quick reader but by the time the Easter holidays had finished, and I had run out of other books, I decided to read Harry Potter. I'm nearly finished Order! I think I'm going to be able to read the whole lot again before July!!!

I need to find PoA (I've no idea where it went) though, and I want to buy a new copy of GoF (mine got water-damaged in a fire back in January). So yeah, I'll most likely be re-reading the books. I've already started! I'm re-reading the series slowly though, only about 1-2 chapters a night, plus during my coffee breaks at work. I'm enjoying myself plus it's helping me get pumped for summer - and hopefully for me to continue with my fanfiction which I've sort have left for dead.

You've got to re-read them before DH comes out. It helps deal with impatience. Besides there are so many things from the earlier books that I forget about. Got to shake that rust off!

I have, just 10 minutes ago, finished Half Blood Prince for about the 4th time (I think). I re-read the entire series in about a month (after the Easter holiday) and now have more than a month to kill. Can't decide whether to start at the beginning again, or to go from GOF again...don't want to not be reading Harry Potter for the next 6 weeks (or whatever it is)!

I am on OotP right now. Frankly, I always seem to be re-reading OotP because it's my favorite out of the series. :blush: But once I finish HBP, I will start all over again, until July 21st is here. :D

I just finished PS (or SS), and Im starting CoS.
I'm a little rusty, so I want to be prepared for DH!

I'm at the begining of CoS (I'm a kinda slow reader so I decided to start two months earlier to alot time for OotP) I'm really enjoying the reread. I tried to reread before HBP, but I procrastinated and was reading OotP in the bookstore the night of the release. It was bad. My boyfriend walked in and looked for me for 15 minutes before he found me in the back huddled between two rows of books in my pjs reading OotP. Then he tried to talk to me and I talked... for about 5 minutes until I told him he had three options.

A) Grab a book and read with me
B) Sit here and be quiet
C) GO AWAY

He picked C. Might his choice have been attributed to my tone? :lol:

My English teacher got married for HPB, the book was due for release durign her honeymoon. Luckily, it was in England. She ended up reading a majority of it on the plane ride home.

I hardly stop reading them either. I read out of order and also in order and then just start over again. I want to read the series in order a couple times before DH comes out. I started a day or 2 ago and I'm in CoS now. Usually I read much faster but I've been spending a lot of time online here and another HP forum.
I might read the series three or so times in preparation for DH. I know them through and through as I've read each of them dozens and dozens and more dozens of times, but I still want to refresh everything right before it comes out and still look out for those tiny clues.

I definitely want to read thru the series again before the movie and book 7 come out. Guess I better get started! I went to England last fall and got the special editions of the British versions of the books, so I'm going to read those. It will be fun. It will be my 3rd time reading thru the series. Guess I'll have to take another trip to London to get the 7th book in British special edition!!! Good excuse to travel!!!! :)

Before summer? Nope. I could probably get 'em done in a month, but I plan on taking Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell to school with me.

If I read HP just at home, in between everything else, I can probably get all of it done about July 21st.

Oh my gosh, I haven't been to Barnes&Noble for three weeks, and I'm going nuts because I have nothing to read! I finished everything for English and I might just give up and restart the series again. I admitt I'm very weak!

it does seem like every time you re-read one of the books you notice something else you didn't notice each time before.

I'm traveling through Sorcerer's Stone right now at a good rate, so hopefully, hopefully, I'll have it finished by tomorrow! :tu: :tu:

It had been before HBP came out since I had read some of the early books (1-4)…so I decided to reread them in December after hearing about the title of book seven. After about a two month break…I’ve just recently picked up OotP and have continued with that. From now until the release, I’ll be trying to read about one or two chapters a day.

i have not yet read all the books yet but i know that i will re-read them before the last one comes out..ever since the 5th one came out i have always re-read the books and then went on to the new one. i think it is always fun to go back and read the books.

I've read all the books so many times already, but I never seem to get enough! So I, like so many before me, also started to reread the series before *Deathly Hallows* comes out. I finished PS, and now I'm reading COS. I'm taking my time, so I think I'll finish HBP just in time.

Not yet, but it begins today! I'll be grabbing my SS/PS while my cakes are in the oven, & begin the immersion so I'll be ready for the last book *sniffle*.

I'm reading them backwards, and then forwards again a couple weeks before the release. So far I've read HBP and am about to start OotP.

I'll probably re-read them before the new book comes out.

I usually get through the series up to HBP in around 10 days so I might just start then and do a countdown ready for DH. Just before OOTP comes out I will of course have to re-read that. In Potter you always discover something new that you didn't notice before, which is why the COS forums are such a good idea.

I've finished Sorcerer's Stone a few days ago and now I'm reading Goblet of Fire. I just started it last night. :drool:

I just started the first one for about the 6th time a coupla days ago, but I'm also reading another book at the same time. I figure that if I don't rush it I might be able to drag the series out to July 21st.

nope, i am taking books 4-6 with me over-seas this summer (starting june 24th) so that i can get them all read by the time 7 comes out. i should be starting 1-3 soon, but i can read them really fast.

I am planning on re-reading the series. However, I haven't started yet so I might just read book 5 and 6.

I am currently in the middle of my woefully broken copy of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I think I'll need to buy new copies of each of the books sometime in the future. I've read my current ones to death.

me too: im just started reading GOF. i dont know if it;ll still be a book when ive finshed with it- was my first edition hardback too. ah well!

Well, as my thermometer said 106 today, I think it's too late for summer :D I do plan to reread at least the last 3 if nothing else. I'd love to reread all of them before the new book comes out.

heck no ! I re-read it every time usually I read it forwards or backwards (i've done each only once) but Deathly Hallows is special. I'm trying to read it as many times as possible. I'm reading the series for the sixth time ( I started may first)

I just finished Half Blood Prince this past Sunday. I think I'm going to start over from SS and go through the series one more time before DH release.

I am like ALWAYS re-reading it. But I am just a fan since last summer, so, no biggie.

You're definitely not the only one, I'm rereading it before the 7th comes out, so that I can have a chronological time line in my head and and remember every event that took place. I'm on GOF right now.

I was so bored the other day that I was reading them, and taking notes on them. I filled up half a freakin notebook. Really bored.

I started re reading a while ago in "preparation" for DH, and so far I'm re-reading GOF and hoping to finish my aim of re-reading both Ootp and HBP in time for July 21st!

My sister has only read the first book. I know. Crazy. So right now, we are re-reading all the books and we are each taking a turn reading a chapter out loud to each other. Its quite fun!!! We do the voices and everything. :p

just starting hbp, found it really hard going with gof and ootp this time round for some reason!

Each summer it becomes a yearly event in our house to reread the HP series. Of course, on years when we are anticipating a new release it gets down right exciting.

However, this year I started in January, and with the exception of Order of the Phoenix, they all read rather quickly, as usual. Each time I say I am going to keep a notebook handy so that I can enter my thoughts and theories as I read, but it just slows me down so I never quite make it.

I was done well in advance of summer, for which I am glad due to the release of the movie. I have found from past experience that, for me, it is far better to remove myself from the books in order to enjoy the films for film sake; otherwise I become way too critical of the movies differences and inaccuracies. (Not exactly a way to enjoy a movie.)

As it stands, I am pre-read for the book release and removed from the books enough to enjoy the movie...all in all not bad.

The best part is finding all of the clues and foreshadowing that JKR places in the books that you don't know, necessarily, that you should catch prior to reading the newest book.

I was going to but then I bought a Mercedes Lackey book that I really want to read.

I have already taken them all from CD and put them on my iPod so that I can listen to them on my hour-long ride to school and then again on my hour and a half ride home from school. Haha. I'll probably listen to them during work when summer starts up, too. [:

heck yes I read them all last time before the 5th came out and then before the 6th came out and you'd be surprised on how much you forget. And I figure that this is my last chance to read them not knowing the end.. so yea. I'm already on the 5th. !!!!!! Ahh I can't wait!!:love:

Yepp! I just finished reading 1-6 in five days. I am just going to read the series over and over again until the 21st. This is my fifth time reading the series. I swear, it just doesn't get old!

I plan on reading them before the release. Here's some BAD news for me though...

My family and I are taking a vacation this summer. We leave July 14th...so i will see the movie right before i go...
And the bad part...We come back July 25th. We will be in another country, and I KNOW i will have access to a HP7 book in english while there, but i dont want to spend the last 4 days of my vacation with my nose in a book.
So I've agreed to NOT read DH until we get to the airport to fly home.

that is FOUR LONG DAYS THE WHOLE WORLD WILL KNOW, AND I WONT!

yeah I'll probably reread them before the release. I have a hige mountain of new books I also plan on reading this summer, so I'll defiantly be busy this summer.

I am actually still in the process of reading the 6th. book for the first time (only 5 chapters left!) and I have yet to re-read the entire series. However, I would love to re-read as much as possible before DH comes out in July!

I just finished re-reading the series, I didn't expect to get as caught up in it as I did, and I finished about a month early. Oh well, time to start over, I still have just enough time to read 'em once more if I try hard enough.

I think I'm going to re-read the series before DH comes out, but I'll have only five days to do that, as I have exams until 16/07/07 but I'll try to manage.

I've just bought 4 new books, and i want to finish them before i re-read them all, but ive only got a month, i cant see me managing to read those 4 and 6 other books in one month, unless i do a reading marathon, but then i wont have any time to come on here, so i probably wont be able to. i would like to though, ill see if i can get those books read. or i might just read the first book, then re-read all my Potter books, then read DH then go back to my other books again. i dont know

I've just started HBP, so that's 29 chapters in 40 days....I think I can do it!

It'll be interesting to see how much continuity there is if you only see the movies without reading the books.

I am on the other side of the world to my beloved HP books so I have been re-reading a chapter at a time at the local book shop. Over the last 3 months I have read OOTP and half of HBP. Slow and steady.....

The other thing I wanted to do, if I get a chance. Is watch the 1st 4 movies before I see OotP. It'll be interesting to see how much continuity there is if you only see the movies without reading the books.

I am definately going to be doing that, i do that every ime a new movie comes out, watch the ones before it.

Well, naturally the more you review something the more it will become imprinted in your mind, and as someone who has lost count of how many time I've read each of the books, I know them pretty well by now. ;)

i just started rereading OOTP today, and then im going to reread HBP but i think thats all. i just wrote a paper on harry potter so i kind of skimmed each of the books for that. if i have time i might read the others.

Well, I finally finished reading HBP on Monday! So, now I have started re-reading the series for the first time (starting w/ SS). I hope to read as much as possible before DH comes out to refresh my memory on all of the important details!

I've re-read 1-5 and I'm on HBP right now. It's taking me forever to read it though because I've been reading other things at the same time I'm reading HBP.
I'll finish it up though probably right before Deathly Hallows comes out. That's what I did when HBP was released. Hurried and finished reading OOTP.

I've just gotten to the Quidditch World Cup chapter of Goblet of Fire as part of my series re-read before book 7 is released. I read what I can when I'm at home, and listen to the rest on MP3 when in the car or at work. I should finish just before the release, and I'll get through that during the weekend (for the first time) then I'll read #7 again right away to get the full gist of the story and catch anything I may have missed the first time through.

I'm re-reading HBP right now (forgot what chapter I'm on...finals week came up and I was reading textbooks only there for a while), but I'm not going to try to read all of them. I tried to do that when HBP came out; I think I made it halfway through GOF. Although the fact that I didn't finish them last time makes me want to try again...It's hard to be a competitive person with a short attention span at the same time, oy.

Oh man this threads sucsesfful. Well anyway, I finished this morning. Depressing relaly. I cant believe that when I re read again, Ill see him saving Hermoine from the troll and be thinking.. DONT WORRY HARRY YOU KILL VOLD IN THE END. or Ill think HARRY YOU'RE GONNA DIE IN YOU 7TH YEAR. Either way really.

My eleven year old daughter is currently in the process of reading the books in reverse order...6, 5, 4, 3, 2, & 1

I'll read them when I get them. Right now, they're at home, and I'm away at school, so... Yes. It's heart-wrenching, and it's been ages since I've been able to sit down with them and just read. Hopefully, my mom will be coming for a visit next week, so maybe she'll remember them! :)

I've started re-reading them, but I am currently halfway through CoS after starting with HBP and PS/SS in one sitting each and I can't seem to make any progress.

I started rereading them three weeks ago when I panicked and realised that I had less than two months to reread them all. =P I shouldn't have panicked. I finished them in ten days and now I have nothing to do but just read pivotal passages from OotP and HBP and hope I pick up something new. :P

I just started reading CoS. Luckily the first two books are easy to get through. I've picked up on a lot of stuff that I'd forgotten and some stuff that I didn't even notice before.

Hells yeah, I'm reading them again. lol... I'm on the third novel, at the moment.

I'm hoping to finish them before the Deathly Hollows is released. I've already pre-ordered my copy from Amazon. :D

yes! two summers ago I read through all the books and last summer I read through all the books again and this summer I read from the grave scene in book four to the end to read up on the books for the summer movie and book release.

I just started SS today. I know, I'm late, but I think that I can do it. I'm a pretty fast reader.
