I just finished Order of the Phoenix (for like the fiftieth time) last night and am now on Half-Blood Prince. I knew I would finish the series before DH came out. One book left :D

I know I should before book 7 comes out. But I can't...because the first book I can't find (lost) and I'm one of those wierd people who have to do everything in order. xD

I am as well. On OOTP now, Harry's first detention. What an evil witch Umbridge is! I can't wait to see Imelda Staunton, I bet she'll be great. In less than a month...movie and then book. Can't wait!!!

I think I've started a bit late, just now I'm almost done with CoS but having said that between now and DH I've got a long road journey and a beach holiday so I may make it :)

I just finished CoS last night. I need to get a move on with the rest if I want to finish in time. Last time I didn't make it through OotP before HBP was released. But I have read them so many times, it turned out that it didn't really matter.

Funny you should ask this, I just finished HBP yesterday. I thought I'd try to time it so that I'd finish just before getting DH, but I forgot how much of a page-turner the Harry Potter books are...bah.

Maybe I'll read just HBP again on the last week before DH comes out..but it might be boring.

June 17th, 2007, 3:14 pm
I'm reading one a week until DH comes out - I started last week with PS, and started CoS today. It works out so that I'll read the 5th book in the week coming up to the release of the 5th film and then the 6th book in the week coming up to the release of DH. Perfect!

I'm like JJ, I'm reading a book a week before DH is released. I just started reading CoS today and I'm up to chapter ten. Usually my mum tells me to go out and get some fresh air (so I go out and read in the garden) but she hasn't today. Yipee!

I started my re-read 2 weeks ago with SS. I finished CoS last week, and I'm starting PoA this week, followed by GoF, etc.

I'm trying to read one book every Tuesday leading up to the 21st.

I feel like I must read way too fast. I started last week, and I'm already in the middle of OotP... I think I'm going to wait until the week leading up to DH to finish off with HBP.

i'm going to start SS this week because it's the last week of school and i don't have much to do... i'm going to try to finish order of phoenix before the movie and then i'll read half-blood prince the week (well more like 10 days) between the order of phoenix and seventh book release

i've forgotten so many things from the books, especially the earlier books, so i really need this re-reading or i might get a little confused when reading book 7

I will probably read HBP right before DH comes out so I am up to speed and then read the entire series again after I read Deathly Hallows. I am trying to only read the series once a year (which usually happens to be in the summer) so that it stays fresh each time.:p

Currently I'm reading POA in French (don't ask!) but I've just re-read OOTP and HBP because I read them far too fast the first time and I wanted to really soak it all up and refresh my memory of things I need to know for DH.

I'm absolutely itching for DH now though so I wish I'd waited a bit longer and re-read OOTP and HBP closer to DH's publication!

Right now I'm in the process of reading Order of the Phoenix. It is quite slow-going as I keep getting distracted by other activities, i.e. tennis and other sports. I think I'm at the part where they are about to get off the train and Harry will see the thestrals for the first time.

I'm up to Goblet of Fire this time. I was moving at a steady pace until I got to the fourth book. I don't know why but this book is proving troublesome this time around.

When I came to the forums and started reading all the discussions on Horcruxes etc. I realized how much I need to read the sixth book again but I'm forcing myself to stay in order.

Immersing myself in the books again just makes me that much more impatient for DH.

Of course I am, it's a religious experience for me so I always do it so I finish the last book the day before the next release. Then afterwards I'll probably read through them again. Since this is the last one, I might read HBP twice before, since I still feel like I've missed a bunch of information. I've only read it twice thus far.

Yep, I am, A few weeks ago I read Ootp and then HBP. After that I went right back to PS/SS and now I'm working my way back up through again, I'm just finishing GoF at the moment, so I'll probably finish a little too soon really, I might read HBP twice, I'd like to finish the day before if I can manage it, so it's really fresh in my mind.

Yes, I'm re-reading all the books again to have the information fresh in my mind. Then I might just read from the 4th book and up again so when I finish the 6th I will be picking up the 7th. A religious experience huh?!? Lol thats hilarious. Same here though!!

I'm rereading them to see if there are any hints about things that still need to happen in the seventh.
I've actually found a few things.
1)What exactly was it that the centaurs read in the stars in PS and has it been fulfilled?
2)How were Charlie's friends able to take Norbert away if they flew to the astronomy tower on brooms? I thought there were defenses around the castle.

June 27th, 2007, 3:02 am
So, I read the first three books in the series years ago, and started the Goblet of Fire before, for God knows what reason, I stopped a couple of hundred pages in.

All of the murmuring and excitement over the release of Deathly Hallows inspired me to start all over. I'm currently halfway through Order of the Phoenix, and reading all of these books now has made me feel as if I missed out on the excitement and thrill of the books when they first came out.

I wish I had read them from the beginning, instead of all at once like this. It just doesn't feel right.

I reread the books every year, and that normally happens in the summer because I have the most time on my hands. Although this summer I don't have quite as much time on my hands, but I remembered the other day that I was due to start reading them again, so I'll be starting that by the end of the week when my schedule calms down slightly.

It has been a while since reading books 1-6, so I decided to reread them. I am on book 5. I remember some things but others I have finally noticed due to reading theories and things on this forum. And once book 7 comes out, I will reread the series again in its entirety. I want to read them slowly so I can grasp everything and not ruin the books (I have a three year old who may be interested in reading them in the near future). Did anyone else noticed new things the second or third or fourth time around in rereading the series?

I've re-read the series so many times, I've lost count. I've kind of adopted 1-4 from my sister. They're her books, but I'm the one that reads them. :) They're paper back and they are falling apart. I'm thinking of getting my own set and use the paper back to read just so I have a nice set in years to come. 5 and 6 are mine and I always take off the jackets and use one of those fabric jackets to protect them. I really have to hurry on the reading though. 3 more weeks and I'm on cos!

I did it with Half-Blood Prince, but then I spoiled myself when I figured out that Snape was the Half-Blood Prince because Jo used the word "cramped" to describe Snape's handwriting in Order of the Phoenix and then again for the Half-Blood Prince in HBP. I was so bummed. So, I don't want anything spoiled for Deathly Hallows so I am not rereading the books beforehand.

i reread them until yesterday. Was a bit too fast, it took me only a month. But now I still have mugglenet.coms what will happen in harry potter 7, which I read for the first time.

June 28th, 2007, 5:13 am
I think re-reading is fantastic...except for the now thousand more new questions and early realizations (how did I miss that...) that occur because it's fresh in your mind. I started taking notes (not in the book -- yeah right) down just to keep up with my brain on overload going nuts when reading them again. Seriously though I have so many random thoughts I need to make a post per thought just so it can all make a little more sense again.

Montse

I have been re-reading the series. I'm on Order of the Phoenix right now, and I'm going to time it so I'm finished that on July 6th. Then I'm going to watch all the movies in preperation for the Order of the Phoenix movie. Once I've seen that, which will probably be on the 12th or so, I'll get onto Half Blood Prince, and time it so I'm finished that on July 20th. I did the same thing when Half Blood Prince came out. I finished reading Order of the Phoenix and drove to the book store the next morning for HBP.

I'm reading them in Spanish, but yes, I am rereading 2, 3, and 4. I couldn't find any of the others at the library, I don't think I'd have time to read them all anyway. I still have to get through my required books for English class, heh.

I've been listening to the Wizarding Wireless podcast (http://www.wizardingpod.com/) because it is one of the only podcasts that go through each book chapter by chapter. I'm hoping they catch something that I haven't - but also I just want someone to talk about the books while I listen. It isn't my favorite of all the HP podcasts, but I really like what they're trying to do, and I find it very comforting.

I have re-read all the books in the last year, and am sort of too excited to go and read them all again right now. I think I'll just zip through HBP a day or 2 before book 7 is released.

Off topic: By the way, I really love this thread... Thanks for Everything Jo (http://www.cosforums.com/showthread.php?t=100973)
as a place to thank Ms. Rowling herself for this great series. I would love it if that thread became very popular so that maybe she'll find it if she ever wanders over here. :)

I have stopped in my re-read because I've done all of them recently and then started at Prisoner again...only to still have more than a month to read HBP. So I'm reading some other books, but it's very hard to adjust to another author's writing styles when I've become so used to JK!

I'll finish this book in a couple of days, and then I'll read HBP again.

I have a thing where I like to read Harry Potter every summer. On release years, I like to read the series and try to time it that I finish the last book as close to the release date as possible. Though, I think I started to soon this year as I am already on OotP and will find it hard not to rush through it. But, even though I've read the series more times than I can remember, it really is nice having everything fresh in my head before the new book is released. And, just think about it, this is our first chance to read the entire series back to back to back!

I've actually been constantly rereading them..since like last summer. Ha:) I just always have to be reading one! But I'm a slow reader..so it takes me a while to finish a book.

But lately I've been concentrating on OotP and HBP. I just finished reading the 5th one a couple days ago and I'm starting on the 6th. I'm taking my time on HBP though, really paying attention when I'm reading it, just in case I missed anything. Because isn't HBP and DH kind of a 2-part thing?

Absolutely I'm reading them again! I'm currently on GoF. I meant to do the same thing when HBP came out, but I didn't, and I regretted it. This is the last time :( so I'm making sure I finish all of them before book 7 comes out, even if it's the day before!

A good while ago I figured I had 12 chapters to read each week. I got on grand at that. Then I sped up and I'm really disappointed in myself because I am halfway through Half-Blood Prince. One of the reasons I loved book six was I finished rereading Order of the Phoenix 10 minutes before I began reading book six.

I had it set so that I would read 2 chapters a day for the first 5 books and 3 chapters a day for the 6th one (my favorite :D), but I got sick of reading such a small amount a day, so now I'm reading 3 or 4 a day and will be done about a week before DH.
This is the third time I've read the series in order. I've noticed a lot of little things that I hadn't noticed before that foreshadow things in the books that are already out.

Do you guys think it is really necessary to re-read all the books?

I've read the first countless times, but from there I've mostly read each book 1-2 times. I know I've only read 4, 5, and 6 once each.

I was thinking of just watching the movies for 1-4 and then reading 5+6. What do you guys think?

i usually read the series before a new book comes out so that i can remeber everythign that has happened up until the last book that was published.
its easier for me so that i do not forget potentially important information
and i dont think watching the movies would cut it for me because the movies cut out and change around some parts and they just arn't as great as the books in my opinion

Alright, you guys convinced me :P.

Do you think I could get through the books with about three hours of reading time per night?

Depends on how fast you read (how many pages per hour).

I just wrapped up my reading session of the books. Finished up HBP last night and now I'm re-reading Prisoner Of Azkaban. I'm in a mood for reading Harry Potter and since I've kind of going slow with the books I decided I'd go ahead and re-read PoA quickly before the final book comes out.

Rowling said herself that the films are a different entity. All the canon... all the beautiful... canon... shredded to pieces...
And you'd have the image of the actors rather than your own imagination.

Yes, I am, very slowly at that.

I can't remember when I started re-reading them but so far I've not even a quarter of the way through book 5 as I have been reading other books at the same time.

I'm going to back reading the last two Harry Potter books so i'll be finished with them before the next one comes out in a few weeks. :relax:

I read 1, 2 and 3 a while back, read another book, missed out 4 because I couldn't be bothered, now I'm trying to finish 5 before the movie then 6 before the book. Argh.

The other night, wracked with insomnia, I picked up SS and was ready to hit the hay after 20 pages. Happened again last night.

At this rate I might finish it before DH comes out :D

I'm going backwards! lol.
I picked up HBP about two weeks ago. I had gotten my wisdom teeth out and needed something to do while lieing in bed all day. :)
Since then my boyfriend and I have begun a race to see who finishes the series first. This, of course, also includes how long it takes us to read book 7..

I am on Prisoner and it is ending, so if I go slow I will finish the HBP right before DH comes out! I am am having a Harry Potter pre-DH release mania... I listen to the Harry Potter OSTs (or anything that reminds me of anything Harry Potter), have put up a Harry Potter wallpaper, etc. This is looking to be a great month!
I might also watch all the movies before the 7th book and/or 5th movie although IMO the movies are NOT canon and nothing compared to the books; but I'll leave that for another thread...

right now i'm almost done with the 3rd book for the 2nd time. I want to get at least finish with the 5th one b/f i go to the midnight showing of OOTP. Then I'll start on HBP the next day. I'll probably finish in time to reread SS, CoS, POA, and half of GOF b/f the 21st.

Before summer? Nope. I could probably get 'em done in a month, but I plan on taking Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell to school with me.

If I read HP just at home, in between everything else, I can probably get all of it done about July 21st.

you'll like jonathan strange. like i said in another thread, if u can get through the first 100 not-that-entertaining-but-really-well-written pages, you will enter a world that you will never ever want to leave.

I was really planning on rereading the whole series before the new book came out, but then I forgot all about it and next thing I know the book is coming out in two weeks! It took me a week to read 1-5 last year before 6 came out, but with my vacation I only have six days to read them all, hmmm should have started reading earlier... :grumble:

I've almost finished my re-reading of them all =] Maybe I'll re-read them all again after just for good measure...lol And anyway, what with the release of book 7 being so close now, I don't think I could manage to read a non-HP book at the moment, my mind would just keep wandering to Harry...so I guess I'll be re-reading again before Deathly Hallows comes out.

I keep trying to re-read them. But I can't seem to make it past the first book. Which is pathetic, considering I normally finish the big ones in less than two days each.

But, once I got the end of Chapter One in SS, where JKR mentions that wizards all over the world were raising their glasses and toasting, "To Harry Potter - the boy who lived," I freaked out. Because all I could think was what if The Boy Who Lived doesnt! It's making me edgy.

My sister, on the other hand, is re-reading them starting backwards (Book 6 to Book 5, etc). She says she's noticed more than she originally did. Haha.

HBP is one of the easiest to read imo. I remember it being like 2:45 AM(I don't read past 4) and I was on page 500 and I didn't think I had enough time to finish it that night, then I checked how many pages it was and realized it was only 653 and plowed through it in an hour.

I was trying to spread out the books so that I would finish HBP a day before the release of DH. But, of course, I couldn't pace myself and am already starting HBP. I'm a slow reader but even if I try to go slow, I'll be done with HBP in just a few days. Oh well. I guess I can read some of those fan written books to help me get through these final days.

Lol, you are definatly not the only one.

I'm re-listening to it...but then I'm always listening to it. I'm on book four

I just finished watching the movies again

My neice just finished reading them for the first time.....her parents told her that they wouldn't buy her her own copy of the seventh book unless she read the first six...so she did. She's sooo excited it's cute

My nephew also just finished reading them, but this time for the second time...he also just finished re-watching the movies...he keeps spouting off lines from them and nobody catches on but me.

w00t, I finally started my reread! I actually opened with HBP, then went to PS... topsy turvy, I know. I got through CoS last night, though, and now I'm about eight chapters into PoA. Can you believe I forgot how good these books are? Yeah really, they're rather entertaining, you know...

Still, wish me luck, I've got the two longest books to go! ^_^ I don't think I'll get OotP finished before I see the movie unless I read until dawn... here's hoping my mental image is strong enough to survive it as it is.

I've started re-reading the whole series but I'm very worried that I won't finish before Deathly Hallows comes out, especially since I'm working 8 hours a day and going camping next week.

But I am definitely going to re-read Order of the Phoenix before July 21, because it is my favorite book. I will skip all the other books if it is necessary in order to finish Book 5 on time.

I plan to re-read the series after taking a couple of weeks off of Harry Potter. Unfortunately, when I read the book for nearly an entire day and finished it, the next day if felt I had nothing to do. In fact, the only thing I felt like doing was reading another Potter novel. However, I do plan to re-read the series in order since I hadn't become a Potter fan until the sixth book, and decided I fancied the novels (the order I read them in was 6,5,1,2,3,4,7).

I started to a week before DH came out. Problem came when I couldn't find my PoA (then I remember it was all the way in Illinois), and went looking for someone that had it. By Thursday night I tried starting at GoF but then I gave up and decided to skim over HBP on Friday. Didn't do that either ^^;

I figure when my winter break comes at the end of November I'll sit down and read them all in order (between now and then I shall buy another PoA so I wont get caught up!)

I was going to re-read the series, but I ended up just reading random excerpts from the books whenever I needed to reference them, or just needing something to read when I was in the bathroom ;). I love the series, and now that I have all 7 books, I am going to re-read them this year to see if I missed hints of anything. I have the blue Galadriel Waters book of books 1-5 that helped, but I need to re-read the books, because I swear I have forgotten some things.
