- Find a way to split these numbers into groups. There is a pattern that is common in all the groups of numbers so when you split them look for patterns and you'll know you split it correctly. Solve Riddle to find the name of a Harry Potter character.

Clues: There are 44 numbers, and they split evenly, so the amount of numbers in a single group times the number of groups will give you 44. That gives several choices:
.2 groups of 22 numbers
.4 groups of 11 numbers
.11 groups of 4 numbers
.22 groups of 2 numbers
I suggest you try each groupings and look for the trend, it is something that links one group of numbers to the previous.

X: I noticed you told us to be looking for a trend that connects "groups of numbers," referring to the separate digits. Does that mean we should not look at the numbers as multi-digit numbers, but as groupings of single-digit numbers?

J: I'll show a small example of the problem youface:

68643432 << this can be split into 6864 + 3432 as the first term in the group is half of the previous first term, same with the second and same with the third and forth.

The difference in the actual riddle is that not all the terms are linked like the one above, it might be that only one term in a grouping is linked to the others. Don't worry, if it's the first term in the grouping that is significant then it'll be the first all the way through. Also, in the example above it is split into fours, this may/may not be the case in the riddle.

I don't know if anyone's solved this riddle yet, but I think I've found something.
When you separate the numbers into 11 sections of 4 numbers and put them in columns, there is a pattern diagonally:
5 1 4 3
1 0 2 2
0 1 0 0
1 6 8 1
6 8 5 0
8 7 0 5
7 2 1 5
2 4 4 0
4 4 8 4
4 0 1 0
0 9 6 3
Am I at least close?? :p
Also, the zeros on the last column alternate (two numbers, zero, one number, zero, etc.):
3
2
0
1
0
5
5
0
4
0
3

Ok, I think I've solved it. Is it James Potter?
I added the number in each row together and got:
13 5 1 16 19 20 15 10 20 5 18
M E A P S T O J T E R
Which anagrams to: James Potter. :)
How'd I do? I'm a little out of practice...haven't been on this thread in a long time!!! :p

Ok, here's one from me. :)

Somewhere in this shopping list lies the name of a Harry Potter character...who??

- kiwis
- green beans
- savoury snacks
- truffles
- torch
- cherries
- cereal (muesli)
- 50g prawns
- 3 packets of nuts
- 500 grams of chicken

Grown, a safehouse, to harbor and lock, I first thought of the Whomping Willow here, as it is grown and it keeps Remus in and other students out of the Shrieking Shack
Please stay away of you'll get quite a shock.Maybe not a litteral shock, but a tree smacking you across the face would definitely shock you.

Stretching from steps to the shore of the lake, I also thought the Hogwarts grounds, but I guess not... Maybe the Burrow?
No prize for the greatest will his family take. Which would make this maybe a reference to the Weasleys (Ron)?

Your capital helps those who haven't a car Because I thought of the Ministry lending cars to them in PoA...
Picadilly to Bakerloo, it'd be quite a scar.

No prize for the greatest will his family take. Which would make this maybe a reference to the Weasleys (Ron)? The first line is referring to something to do with the Hogwarts grounds, but more specific than general. The second line is referring to something...else.

As far as I understand it, we have three words/syllables, each coded with two lines that add up to one word:

Grown, a safehouse, to harbor and lock,
Please stay away of you'll get quite a shock.
The whomping willow -> tree

Stretching from steps to the shore of the lake,
No prize for the greatest will his family take.
1 the lawn -> grass STOP LAUGHING YOUR HEAD OFF

Actually, I think the last two are 131 and 142 in base 5.

From that it would indeed be hard to convert to letters with all the 1's and 0's so I figured you have to do something else.

do what? :hmm: I used the little Gringotts poem he gave...
to fix my counting mistake I actually put each letter on a separate line in excel til I got to 142 on the left bar  worked well! then it was just the anagram

I'd have never gotten that it was in a different base without the hint, that's pretty creative. Is that a common cypher technique twins? I guess it would be harder to tell if you used like base 9 or something. I love that TV show Numb3rs and they're always solving complex riddles and such. Charlie always notices weird things like a set of numbers having no 9's :err: I wish I was that sharp! this is sounding really rambly...cheers

Super simple riddle here, it's really easy if you just don't think too hard. There's no secret code to unlock or any letters to rearrange its just a simple riddle. I think it's either going to come across as insanely easy and someone will get it in an instant or else no one will have any idea what I'm talking about.....Hopefully the latter. Anyway, try this one out:

Seven letters
For seven heirs
To a Name
That’s filth is
Pure.
For Seven
Pieces
To this One,
A seven part
Riddle is sure.
One must be paid
And is Seven’s greatest
Of Six,
Two’s a horse
That’s purpose
Is either pain or
Kicks.
Three betrayed
Has not repaid,
And failed corruption of Six.
Though Two of Name
From one in
Same,
Four and Five
Were borne.
Six is King
And Seven a Queen
Who with binding
The Name is
Shorn.
The final
Is the last to bear
That Name
Of which you seek,
The Queen is One
Despite the Six
But find this not
As weak.
From Two
was born the seven-part
Heir
Whose name
Is yours to find
So find the One
That calls to Seven
And each will fall behind.

Your task is to find the one Name that binds the Seven and then find each of the Seven.

Super simple riddle here, it's really easy if you just don't think too hard. There's no secret code to unlock or any letters to rearrange its just a simple riddle. I think it's either going to come across as insanely easy and someone will get it in an instant or else no one will have any idea what I'm talking about.....Hopefully the latter. Anyway, try this one out:

Seven letters
For seven heirs
To a Name
That’s filth is
Pure.
For Seven
Pieces
To this One,
A seven part
Riddle is sure.
One must be paid
And is Seven’s greatest
Of Six,
Two’s a horse
That’s purpose
Is either pain or
Kicks.
Three betrayed
Has not repaid,
And failed corruption of Six.
Though Two of Name
From one in
Same,
Four and Five
Were borne.
Six is King
And Seven a Queen
Who with binding
The Name is
Shorn.
The final
Is the last to bear
That Name
Of which you seek,
The Queen is One
Despite the Six
But find this not
As weak.
From Two
was born the seven-part
Heir
Whose name
Is yours to find
So find the One
That calls to Seven
And each will fall behind.

Your task is to find the one Name that binds the Seven and then find each of the Seven.

I think your Riddle is all about the Weasley family .

1. Bill must be paid
2. Charlie is a Horse
3. Percy is one who betrayed
4&5 are Fred & George
6. Ron "Weasley is King " song
7. Ginny When she weds she changes her name

Arthur & Molly Weasley & family

Ok thats my guess for your Riddle .

I find that when you make up one of these anagram squares that to get the right letters in the right places you have to use the whole dictionary . So sometimes I use obscure words . Think of it as a challenge and a learning experience. :tu:

different sorta technique, hopefully not too hard. I'll make it a bit easier if nobody catches the drift.

CLUES:
1. What he comes from and how he got here.
2. It is NOT an anagram.
3. The number puzzle and Clue #1 can be viewed as two separate riddles with the same answer.
4. 59181522581 <-- also not an anagram, really = (REVERSE)
5. There are a total of 3 steps

4. 59181522581 - taking the numbers from right to left, and converting them to letters, we get REVERSE. we probly should use something like that to solve the riddle, but i got nothing yet... so i thought someone else could use that clue.

RESPONSE: Yes that is indeed the clue! Happiness! And, to help everyone out a bit more: that is indeed the first step to solve the riddle. The second involves math...

Somewhere in this shopping list lies the name of a Harry Potter character...who??

- kiwis
- green beans
- savoury snacks
- truffles
- torch
- cherries
- cereal (muesli)
- 50g prawns
- 3 packets of nuts
- 500 grams of chicken
(see post)

This is all I could see...

K I W I S
G R E E N _ B E A N S
S A V O U R Y _ S N A C K S
T R U F F L E S
T O R C H
C H E R R I E S

5 0 G _ P R A W N S
3 _ P A C K E T S _ O F _ N U T S
5 0 0 _ G R A M S _ O F _ C H I C K E N

So, I got Snuffles, except there's an "F" missing. Am I at least on the right track?

RESPONSE: Nope, sorry. You're not close...at least...not really; you're on the right track in the way you found it...but you're not particularly close, sorry. :)

Harry and Ron are having some fun with a Quidditch set. They've got their own broomsticks, and they're playing with a Golden Snitch. They've chosen to play on a long straight road well away from Muggle eyes.

They start at opposite ends of the road, which is ten miles long. They start flying towards each other at a speed of 30 miles an hour, both starting at the exact same time. As soon as they start moving, Harry releases the Snitch, which flies directly towards Ron. As soon as the snitch reaches Ron, it turns around and flies back to Harry. The Snitch keeps at a speed of 48 miles an hour.

How far will the snitch fly before Harry and Ron meet?

Ok, not certain that I did my math right but if they're going 30mph then each would have gone 5 miles (the half way point) in 10 minutes. If the snitch is going 48mph, that means it's going .8 miles per minute. So in 10 minutes it would have flown 8 miles.

Here's a bit of a breakdown on mine...

1111 41 214 422 11 1225 51 41 720 317 / 1031 422 41 617 ?

No math involved! The numbers represent something which represents a letter. First one is a bit hard so, start further on...

monkeeshrines
September 12th, 2007, 3:16 am
I think your math is right, Kala. That's what I got, too.

But, considering it's Tiberius and he loves to play with words :D(and this is a riddle thread, after all), maybe the answer is just the five miles... When it reached Ron, it turns back, thereby undoing some of its distance (if you get my meaning). Sort of a "two steps forward, one step back means you only really took one step forward" type of thing. Then, whether or not Harry catches the Snitch when it reaches him again and brings it with him the rest of the way (if Harry's flying, any Snitch in his hand is flying too), or it turns back toward Ron and keeps going back and forth between the two, it will really only have gone the five miles from where it started to the midway point since Harry and Ron are going the same speed (rendering the Snitch's speed and all that math irrelevant...)

Or maybe I'm over-thinking it...

The death for which the younger took the blame
Committed by the one he could not name

Hmmm. Well I haven't got the answer, but breaking it down:
A married leader and a single slave Makes me think of the Malfoys and Dobby
The toothless elder now gone to his grave Oooh - the "ELDER" wand has gone to Dumbledore's grave!!! Heh?
The death for which the younger took the blame Malfoy? Took the blame for killing Dumbledore - and got the Elder wand! Malfoys younger than Snape who actually killed Dumbledore.
Committed by the one he could not name I'm guessing that "the one he could not name" is Voldemort.
They've ten between them, ten that do not see ???
Now name the leader and his enemy. ???

OK, I know that's not very good, but am I on the right tracks?...near the right tracks...within sight of the right tracks...with binoculars...?

Also what was my confusion as I was solving this:

Z being Y seems to be working out fine. However, not Y being Z; it’s causing major problems, and I think it should be S. Or is it a three way thing, where Y=S, S=Z, and Z=Y?? Also, every time there’s UBF, well, I think F is supposed to be R, so that it would come out AND. Unless there’s something weird going on here, too, but I don’t think so. Or wait… D=R, R=F, and F=D!?!?

Well, at least I figured it out eventually, right??

CLUES:

The second involves math...

hi everyone!

@ willow:
is it relevant that you wrote the amount in two different ways?

- 50g prawns
- 500 grams of chicken

the number's themselves aren't directly relevant, but there is a specific reason i wrote it in two different ways. :)

Poor, neglected Riddle Thread :sigh:

I have a few classic riddles given a HP twist. Here's the first:

Madeye Moody is carrying out surveilance by broom off the coast of Scotland. He drops two potion flasks, one is full, the other empty. Which one will hit the ground first?

Tiberius
January 21st, 2008, 10:52 am
Ah, I remember this very well.

They both hit the ground at the same time.

I was once working as an assistant groundskeeper at a primary school, and I actually asked some of the kids this very question (although without the HP twist, of course), and then tried it with two coke bottles, one filled with water and the other empty.

That is curious, but in this case not the correct answer.

he's over the sea, right? if he is, the full one would hit the ground first. the empty one would probably float...

Here's the next riddle:

Late one night Harry, Ron and Hermione are sitting in the tent listening to the rain battering down. They start arguing about the weather, and Ron says, 'Give it 72 hours and I bet you we'll see bright sunshine.'

Hermione disagrees, of course. But how could she know?

OK, from top left I can see:
- the theatre masks of comedy and tragedy
- a note
- hyena? not sure who that is
- pancakes
- lime
- toucan
- rope
- spork

So if we're trying to make a sentence, maybe something like Drama's not high in pancakes. Lame toucan ropes pork? I'll keep thinking...

Note, lime, toucan, rope and spork are correct
the first one, is quite correct too, just which word now?
hyena: you need the name
pancakes: not those, something else.

I'm stumped as well, tried a few things :hmm:
Actor's note ed toucan lime syrup rope spork ... don't know what the letters and numbers are. Are you supposed to put the words together? like 'note' & 'ed' are 'noted'? Don't know what that has to do with 3=N but it's a guess.

sholeigh
January 22nd, 2008, 4:22 pm
@ Tenshi's riddle

I've found out that the hyena is called Shenzi, from the Lion King.

I think the numbers and letters are meant to change each picture word:

Note --> third letter = n --> none
Toucan --> no third letter, sixth letter = l --> tocal.

Am I getting there?

EDIT:

I've got it! "There's no need to call me 'sir', professor."
