biara April 4th, 2007, 6:27 pm Welcome to the Harry Potter riddles thread, located in the lovely village of Little Hangleton (Town Motto: Producing evil Riddles since 1927). Version 12 of this thread can be found here (it will be there for a week or two, then it will be deleted :( ). Our very own pub is located over here (http://theidledratherd.proboards50.com/index.cgi).
A few "rules," although pretty much anything goes here:
1) If you wish to post a riddle, please keep a limit of one riddle at a time. We make a very occasional exception to this rule if the riddle is extremely short and easy and you wish to post several of the same type. If you are unsure feel free to ask.
2) There are usually multiple open riddles at any given time. Therefore, when making guesses for a riddle, please either quote the riddle you are referring to or state the name of the person whose riddle you are guessing on.
3) When you guess on a riddle, try to include at least some reasoning as to how you came to your conclusion(s). The riddle writer is in a much better position to respond to your guess if he/she knows why you guessed a tadfoal, Mrs. Mason's cousin, or sneezewort and scurvy-grass. This also prevents people from randomly guessing a correct answer without actually solving the riddle.
4) Riddles can take almost any form imaginable and can be as hard or as easy as you would like to make them as long as they're related to the Harry Potter world in some way. However, to make the riddles fair for everyone, please do not make riddles that refer to page numbers, chapter pictures, book covers, or anything else that is not the same or does not appear in all versions of the books. Violations of this rule will be punished by frequent usage of the :grumble: icon, so don't say you haven't been warned!
5) Have fun! :)
Reposts will be made at intervals so that you can keep track of which riddles are open and which are solved, and also as a compilation of any information gathered for each riddle. Pending guesses are often posted in the repost, so check your riddle for any progress.

- Find a way to split these numbers into groups. There is a pattern that is common in all the groups of numbers so when you split them look for patterns and you'll know you split it correctly. Solve Riddle to find the name of a Harry Potter character.
see post
Clues: There are 44 numbers, and they split evenly, so the amount of numbers in a single group times the number of groups will give you 44. That gives several choices:
.2 groups of 22 numbers
.4 groups of 11 numbers
.11 groups of 4 numbers
.22 groups of 2 numbers
I suggest you try each groupings and look for the trend, it is something that links one group of numbers to the previous.
X: I noticed you told us to be looking for a trend that connects "groups of numbers," referring to the separate digits. Does that mean we should not look at the numbers as multi-digit numbers, but as groupings of single-digit numbers?
J: I'll show a small example of the problem youface:
68643432 << this can be split into 6864 + 3432 as the first term in the group is half of the previous first term, same with the second and same with the third and forth.
The difference in the actual riddle is that not all the terms are linked like the one above, it might be that only one term in a grouping is linked to the others. Don't worry, if it's the first term in the grouping that is significant then it'll be the first all the way through. Also, in the example above it is split into fours, this may/may not be the case in the riddle.
G, L, C, N, V, P
E, F, N, O, V, F, I
- Rolling a 2 and a 5 is a good place to start.
see post
P: Here's a first attempt for your riddle. I added two letters to the first row and five to the second. They don't seem to mean anything to me as they are, so I could be just very wrong.
I, M, E, P, X, R
J, K, S, T, A, K, N
DEJ:nope sorry Puchy
and good clue to put here.......monopoly for example
twins:I've converted the letters to numbers then I've tried Rolling the numbers first by 2 then that total by 5 this is what I got .
G = 7 + 2 = 9 + 5 = 14 ....................I, N
L = 12 + 2 = 14 + 5 = 19 .................N,S
C = 3 + 2 = 5 + 5 = 10.....................E ,K
N = 14 + 2 = 16 + 5 = 21..................P,U
V = 22 + 2 = 24 + 5 = 29..................X,C
P = 16 + 2 = 18 + 5 = 23..................R,W
E = 5 + 2 = 7 + 5 + 12.....................G,L
F = 6 + 2 = 8 + 5 = 13.....................H,M
N = 14 + 2 = 16 + 5 = 21..................P,U
O = 15 + 2 = 17 + 5 = 22.................Q,V
V = 22 + 2 = 24 + 5 = 29.................X,C
F = 6 + 2 = 8 + 5 = 13....................H,M
I = 9 + 2 = 11 + 5 + 16...................K,P
For the 29 I rolled 26 over and got 26 + 3 =29 , 3=C
Is this going in the right direction DEJ. ???
DEJ: that is the right step and either you or i did something wrong but the next letters are
N, S, J, U, C, W
L, M, U, V, C, M, P
with a jump 7 letters forward
Renbums are a good way to go now
twins: Ok switching those letters to numbers and adding 7 I get ;
21 26 17 28 10 30
19 20 28 29 10 20 23
Converting those back to letters I get
U Z Q B J D
S T B C J T W
I must have done something wrong here .
Can you tell me how many steps there is in your riddle Please ?
DEJ: two or three more steps and forget 7 now but the j and the two c's were italic for a reason!
On a completely unrelated note since i live in ohio i now have to wrap my coat tightly around me.
Well, if you break the numbers up into groups of 4 then the first digit in each set is the second digit of the previous set.
i.e. 5143 1022 0100 1681 6850 8705 7215 2440 4484 4010 0963
I'm not sure if that's the answer but it seems to be the direction he was explaining. But, it doesn't work for the first set since there isn't a previous but...yea :)
No clue what HP character that could connect to, I'll work on a bit more and see if I can figure anything else out.

Other than Harry and Dumbledore, which character in Harry Potter is said to have a scar with an unusual property?
see post
- It is not: Arthur, Bill, Lee Jordan, Nearly Headless Nick, Moody with his missing eye, the Sorting Hat
- The Dark Mark is not a scar
Clue: A real scar that has a very unusual property. And remember that "Unusual property" doesn't include "being caused by something odd". A scar which can actually do something.
- It does not have to be magical to have a unique property.
Evilrabbit: Is the character Ron, because of the brain marks on his arms, which he thinks should make him more attractive to girls? Or Moody, whose missing eye, leg, and chunk of nose could be considered scars, and the eye has special powers? Or Arthur Weasley, because his snake bite scars don't heal properly due to the venom? Or Hagrid, whose face scars don't heal even though he supposedly left behind the giants a long time ago? Or Lupin/Bill, because their werewolf bite scars give them wolf powers? Not sure if any of these are technically "unusual properties".
Tibbs: Not quite what I am looking for. I meant the scar itself is unusual, not how he got the scars.
It's just frustrating me because I can't think of any "scar" that "does" something other than Harry's...
People with known scars other than Harry and Dumbledore (that I can remember ):
Ron (brain scar),
Moody (assorted auror antics),
Marietta (snitch scar),
Arthur (snake scar),
Lee Jordan (Umbridge scar),
Sir Nick (head ),
Hagrid (Grawp/magical creature wrestling scars),
Dudley (pigtail scar, probably),
Bill & Remus (werewolf scars),
Dobby (always hurting himself so I assume...), for that matter
Fred & George (in pursuit of the perfect wheeze, certainly that leaves a mark)
DE's (dark mark...m/b not technically a 'scar'),
And just to relieve my insanity you have confirmed that it is an actual scar, that really does somethin, on an actual bodypart, on an actual person, in the series? You said it wasn't Arthur's flying scar , but it's not some other play on words like...the scar on the book that ends the series (last word), right?

Martigan April 4th, 2007, 11:30 pm Ginny almost lost hers, and so almost did Harry
Aragog lost his and so did Barty, Cedric, and Quirrel
What they lost or almost lost is what these don't have
But they that don't have this do have this in some sort of way
And if they catch you, you might go their way
Who are they and what do they not (or kind of) have?

8m57w6 April 4th, 2007, 11:58 pm Ok, so we had a riddle contest in English class a few weeks ago, and there was one that was up there that took me forever to figure out. I'm not sure how hard it really is, especially for you all, but I'll post it here anyway. I'm not sure if it's already been done in the past or not. The originall had nothing to do with HP, so I'm tweaking it a bit. Anyway, here goes:
Lucius Malfoy thinks Snape is a traitor, and kidnaps him, and decides to kill him, so he can't spill anything else to the Order. Before Malfoy kills Snape, he allows him to make one last statement. Lucius tells Snape "If I think what you say is true, I'll AK you. If I think what you say is false, I'll burn you at the stake." Snape says one sentence that makes Lucius so angry and confused, that he let's Snape go free. What did Snape say??
P.S.: Ok, I know you can't technically burn wizards, but just go with it. Also, I used these two characters because it worked.

The name of one who flies much faster
hmm...well turtles made me think of the pawns in wizards chess. I suppose the chess master would be Ron...a piece that "flies" faster than a pawn is pretty much all of them, but you can't spell rook without "R" "O" :shrug:
dunno if that's even remotely near, but ....
Ginny almost lost hers, and so almost did Harry
Aragog lost his and so did Barty, Cedric, and Quirrel
What they lost or almost lost is what these don't have

I think you're right ctyizen that it's their lives, so "these" are not alive (sort of) and if they catch you, you might die? Is it dementors?

:hmm: "You will burn me at the stake" ?? :lol: cause if it's true, then he'd AK him and it wouldn't be true, and if it's false he'd burn him and it would be true. If that makes any sense at all...which I guess was the point...now I'm confused :scared:
8m57w6 April 5th, 2007, 12:23 am Yeah, that's right. It took me forever to figure it out, and once I did I was like "Wait.. what??"

Almost there! You are missing one thing.
:hmm: I seem to have missed something but what ???
kala_way April 10th, 2007, 5:32 am I dunno how easy or hard this'll be, but it was fun to make :D
Professor Flitwick must charm the name cards for the new years seating chart at the high table, but Professor Dumbledore was in high spirits when giving his directions and thus mapped out his orders in a riddle. 13 staff members must be placed.
I survey the school I love, and wish the central place above.
Aligned to oversee their clan, let the heads our table span.
My right hand this cat may be, but last of all she’ll take her tea.
First to jet is her great rival, though his cheer may need revival.
We’ll ensure the prompt arrival, of one who’ll see to his survival.
I’d love to reach the stars each night, but all that’s left is a hasty flight.
Divine omens she’ll nightly find, where dark and light do meet in kind.
Beside your place beneath the dome, should be the one who loves each tome.
Flanked by creatures he’ll not sneeze, though he’d do anything to please.
One last place should stand unfilled, her number’s three, she will be thrilled.

HARRY POTTER ♥ GINNY WEASLEY
Harry loves Ginny!:love:
laxstar333 April 10th, 2007, 10:08 am Ginny almost lost hers, and so almost did Harry
Aragog lost his and so did Barty, Cedric, and Quirrel
What they lost or almost lost is what these don't have
But they that don't have this do have this in some sort of way
And if they catch you, you might go their way
Who are they and what do they not (or kind of) have?
Inferi, and their lives.
EDIT: dam, i was just reading through from page 1 and when i saw it i answered it, then realise it was answered.
Tiberius April 10th, 2007, 11:38 am Want a clue for mine?

karatekid April 10th, 2007, 2:46 pm Okay, kala, here goes ... :shrug:
I survey the school I love, and wish the central place above.
Dumbledore wants to be central, in the middle.
Aligned to oversee their clan, let the heads our table span.
? I don't think this refers to any staff member...
My right hand this cat may be, but last of all she’ll take her tea.
Prof McGonagall must be on his right, but I'm not sure what the second bit means...
First to jet is her great rival, though his cheer may need revival.
Not sure what you mean by 'jet'... I think this means Snape, so possibly you're just referring to his jet black hair?
We’ll ensure the prompt arrival, of one who’ll see to his survival.
?
I’d love to reach the stars each night, but all that’s left is a hasty flight.
Sinastra?
Divine omens she’ll nightly find, where dark and light do meet in kind.
Trelawney?
Beside your place beneath the dome, should be the one who loves each tome.
:hmmm:
Flanked by creatures he’ll not sneeze, though he’d do anything to please.
Hagrid
One last place should stand unfilled, her number’s three, she will be thrilled.
How is it she if its unfilled?
Those are just some thoughts, I haven't really got anywhere :lol:.

Those are just some thoughts, I haven't really got anywhere :lol:.
You got the right staff members for the clues you picked out, but only got the placement of Dumbledore :) And I did say "staff members" in general not just teachers. ;)
karatekid April 10th, 2007, 3:31 pm I'm not quite sure about the placings yet, so I'll just go for a few more staff members...
I survey the school I love, and wish the central place above. Dumbledore

Beside your place beneath the dome, should be the one who loves each tome. Madam Pince, the librarian?
Flanked by creatures he’ll not sneeze, though he’d do anything to please. Hagrid
One last place should stand unfilled, her number’s three, she will be thrilled. :hmm: The new DADA teacher, maybe?
So, do 3 have two members of staff?

karatekid April 10th, 2007, 4:00 pm :hmm: Could it possibly be GoF, with the Karakoff and Maxie? ( thats just a random uess :p)

We’ll ensure the prompt arrival, of one who’ll see to his survival.
I’d love to reach the stars each night, but all that’s left is a hasty flight. Sinastra & Madam Hooch Is the left significant for the order?
Divine omens she’ll nightly find, where dark and light do meet in kind. Trelawney & ?
Beside your place beneath the dome, should be the one who loves each tome. Madam Pince, the librarian? :tu:
Flanked by creatures he’ll not sneeze, though he’d do anything to please. Hagrid & ...
One last place should stand unfilled, her number’s three, she will be thrilled.
And order,
7.Dumbledore
13.McGonagall
I'm stumped. :hmm:
sholeigh April 10th, 2007, 6:29 pm I reckon that if the Heads of Houses are 'spanning' the table, they should be equally spaced out. So there should be three seats between each of them. If Dumbeldore is in the centre, MM at one end and SS at the other, here is my first attempt:
McGonagall - ? - Vector - ? - Head - ? - Dumbledore - ? - Head - ? - ? - ? - Snape
I think that: her number’s three, she will be thrilled = Prof. Vector
And wherever Flitwick is, Madam Pince is next to him.
And: We’ll ensure the prompt arrival, of one who’ll see to his survival = Sprout, because the three Heads of Houses are being described first.
karatekid April 10th, 2007, 6:42 pm You're good! Do the places the houses sit change each year? I'll check it out on the lexicon... because the Heads must be where their respective houses are.
ETA:
Closest to the doors from the Entrance Hall is Slytherin, then Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and next to the far wall, Gryffindor (this order may possibly be reversed, depending on how you orient the room to the entrance hall). The teachers sit at the High Table, a table on a raised platform at the front of the room.
So assuming McGonagall is at the end:
Snape - ? - Vector - ? - Flitwick - ? - Dumbledore - ? - Sprout - ? - ? - ? - McGonagall
Ah, but that doesn't work as Vector isn't next to Flitwick there...:shrug:
sholeigh April 10th, 2007, 6:48 pm Good work :tu: I think that looks right. Vector doesn't need to be next to Flitwick as far as I can see, just Pince. So if this line:
I’d love to reach the stars each night, but all that’s left is a hasty flight = Sinastra & Madam Hooch
means that Sinastra and Hooch are on the left, and so is Pince, then we have the left side filled. Just need to sort out the order of them. Based on 'Hasty flight' being 'left' of Dumbledore, I think this order is most likely:
Snape - Sinastra - Vector - Pince - Flitwick - Hooch - Dumbledore - ? - Sprout - ? - ? - ? - McGonagall
EDIT: Summing up the lines
I survey the school I love, and wish the central place above. (Dumbledore #7)
Aligned to oversee their clan, let the heads our table span. (:tu:)
My right hand this cat may be, but last of all she’ll take her tea. (McGonagall #13)
First to jet is her great rival, though his cheer may need revival. (Snape #1)
We’ll ensure the prompt arrival, of one who’ll see to his survival. (Sprout #9)
I’d love to reach the stars each night, (Sinastra #2) but all that’s left is a hasty flight. (Hooch #6)
Divine omens she’ll nightly find, (Trelawney #?) where dark and light do meet in kind. (clue to her position?)
Beside your place beneath the dome, (Flitwick #5) should be the one who loves each tome. (Madam Pince #4)
Flanked by creatures he’ll not sneeze, (Hagrid #?) though he’d do anything to please. (?? #?)
One last place should stand unfilled, (either an empty seat, or Binns who doesn't eat) her number’s three, she will be thrilled. (Vector #3)
Hmm, two more people to find :er:
karatekid April 10th, 2007, 7:02 pm Good work :tu: I think that looks right. Vector doesn't need to be next to Flitwick as far as I can see, just Pince. So if this line:

The ?s in the order are Hagrid, someone who'll do anything to please, Trelawney, and where dark and light do meet in kind.
Just a summary, I haven't added anything there ;).
kala_way April 10th, 2007, 7:23 pm Wohoo! Good work karate and sholeigh! You're getting closer.

karatekid April 10th, 2007, 7:36 pm I’d love to reach
Could this mean Dumbledore is next to Sinastra, and can 'reach' her?
And the other two are tw oout of Pomfrey, Binns( does he eat though? :no:) and on of the DADA teachers, I think...
sholeigh April 10th, 2007, 8:58 pm OK, I think this line:
We’ll ensure the prompt arrival, of one who’ll see to his survival = DADA teacher
Because the position is cursed and Snape wanted it, so not getting it ensured he stayed in the Potions job. It could be Moody, because he arrived during the Sorting Ceremony that year.
This is starting to look like a game of Mastermind: right name, wrong position :lol: How many black pegs, kala_way? :)

Your Snape logic is creative, but not the direction I went...I thought that "see to his survival" was pretty straightforward :scared: and if you combine it with the "prompt"...:D
Hey, who's over there "flanking" Hagrid?? :whistle:
karatekid April 10th, 2007, 9:35 pm CPT here, did Lupin 'see to' his survival in the werewolf prank? :shrug:

Okay, kala ... how has Lupin saved Snape? :shrug: And Mme Pomefrey is matron - what does flanked have to d owith that? I'll leave those for sho :p.
Snape - ? - Vector - Pince - Flitwick - Sinastra- Dumbledore - Hooch - Sprout - ? - ? - ? - McGonagall
sholeigh April 11th, 2007, 1:22 pm I've got it! (I think)
Snape - Pomfrey - Vector - Pince - Flitwick - Sinistra - Dumbledore - Hooch - Sprout - (Binns) - Lupin - Hagrid - McGonagall
Lupin is 'where dark and light do meet in kind'. Hagrid is flanked by the cat and the wolf, which solves that end of the table. Pomfrey, who ensures Snape's survival, is next to him, leaving the final places for Hooch at Dumbledore's right hand, and Binns' place stands empty.
Tiberius April 11th, 2007, 1:37 pm Another hint for mine...

Tenshi April 11th, 2007, 1:55 pm N... Neville?

Tibs, first name or last name is an 'N'?
twinsrule26 April 11th, 2007, 9:06 pm Tibs is the character Human ? not an animal/Ghost/ Goblin/Centaur/plant ???
kala_way April 11th, 2007, 9:55 pm Not Neville or Tonks....
(You guys are going to hate me when you know the answer...)
I think that's likely! :grumble: just kidding :p :D
I looked through the Leixon character pages and there are only a few human characters with N names--Neville, Nymphadora, and Nearly Headless Nick have already been ruled out.
Pretty much just leaves--Theodore Nott (I know zilch about him, I think he's only mentioned once or twice), Nott Sr. (who got hit by some curse in the MoM battle, but I don't have my book with me so I can't check if he got any scar from it), Narcissa Malfoy (:hmm: dunno), Nicholas Flamel (who I don't remember ever hearing had any sort of scar but I could be wrong), and Phineus Nigellus (again I don't remember anything about a scar:shrug:). There are a few more really minor characters that I've never heard of, but...yay...:sigh:
I suppose it could be a non-human character, but I can't remember off hand any with N names...JKR doesn't seem to like N names very much for some reason

karatekid April 12th, 2007, 12:27 pm Tibs, there should be an angry face smilie. And one with someone hittign someone else and giving them an unusual scar :evil:.

Evilrabbit April 12th, 2007, 2:27 pm But we came up with plenty of people with scars that are sort of special in some way. Namely Moody, Bill, and Arthur. And the only way those answers could be wrong is if there was an another character who was a better fit. You may not consider werewolf powers, room for a magical eye, and stitch dissolving to be unusual properties, but they are when you compare them to ... nothing. [/rant]

Yeah, it's pathetic but the best I could find. Well, there was one other... but I'm not that cruel.

here's another one.
A place to rest, with a bit of a pirate in it, I am both good and evil, young and old, strict and unorthodox. I lived after my death until I killed myself, and though I still live, all that I am is gone. One like me claimed to be me, and I later claimed to be one like me.
This one is a proper riddle, and I think it's a bit on the easy side, so you'll have to explain each clue before I give you the point.

I think it's Lord Voldemort, but I can't make all the clues fit:
I lived after my death until I killed myself,
He died once when he lost the name of Tom Riddle, then he killed himself with the backfiring AK.
and though I still live, all that I am is gone.
He's alive but his humanity is destroyed.
One like me claimed to be me,
The Riddle from the Diary
and I later claimed to be one like me.
Not sure. I'll come back and think about the rest later.

hmm...well at first I thought it was a ghost, like Moaning Mytle, but that didn't fit a lot of the clues. Or perhaps Peter Pettigrew, but again that was hard to fit to the clues. So I think it's Barty Crouch Jr, but I haven't figured all the clues out yet.

8m57w6 April 14th, 2007, 1:44 am Ok, I'm adding on to what you've done so far, kala_way, if you don't mind.
I'm thinking it's both Barty Crouches, if that makes sense at all. I'm put what I think in purple in the quote.
And if this happens to be right, kala_way should get the credit.

You’re right, that was misleading sorry. I meant to say ‘term’ not ‘word’ :blush:.
You are looking for names (all Harry Potterish of course) and each line gives first and last name of a person, so it’s two words.
There’s a letter missing in each name, add one letter and anagram them and you’ve got it.

To try and finish this - but the credit goes to kala and 8m
A place to rest, with a bit of a pirate in it,
Place to rest = couch
+
Pirate = r (arrrr!)
= Crouch
One like me claimed to be me, and I later claimed to be one like me
Jr's mother claimed to be him, and Jr claimed to be his mother. They swapped places using Polyjuice.
Tiberius April 23rd, 2007, 12:51 am Almost. Right about the pirate bit, but "and I later claimed to be one like me" is still unsolved....
Murzim April 27th, 2007, 6:57 pm Almost. Right about the pirate bit, but "and I later claimed to be one like me" is still unsolved.... When Harry had seen Barty Crouch on the Marauders Map, he (Jr.) claimed that it had been his father.
Tiberius April 27th, 2007, 11:55 pm Again, it fits, but not quite what I am looking for.
PadfootBlack16 April 28th, 2007, 12:07 am Almost. Right about the pirate bit, but "and I later claimed to be one like me" is still unsolved....
could it maybe be that Jr then claimed to be a minestry official, just like Sr???
probably not but its all i could think of
Murzim April 28th, 2007, 12:35 am Almost. Right about the pirate bit, but "and I later claimed to be one like me" is still unsolved....
Another two guesses:
1.Jr. sat in the top box at the World Cup, taking his fathers place.
2.When Jr set up the Dark Mark he sort of claimed to be Voldemort calling his DE's to order.
Tiberius April 28th, 2007, 2:09 am Not yet.... :D
PadfootBlack16 April 28th, 2007, 2:52 am are we close at least??? lol
Dancing_Blade April 28th, 2007, 3:22 am Crouch took Moody's place, who also was a little crazy and imprisoned in an awful, depressing place and his interests had to do with the dark arts...but not a big resemblance.
Also he set up the dark mark, kinda claiming it was HP whose mother had also died for him and he lived for years with awful relatives, but still too little similarities.
Any other case when he claimed to be his father? (Imperius curses don't count, I guess?)
Tiberius April 28th, 2007, 4:22 am yes, Crouch claimed to be Moody - who was like him as in he was another wizard. Yay!
Dancing_Blade April 28th, 2007, 4:59 am I found it?

Open Riddles:
51431022010016816850870572152440448440100963
- Find a way to split these numbers into groups. There is a pattern that is common in all the groups of numbers so when you split them look for patterns and you'll know you split it correctly. Solve Riddle to find the name of a Harry Potter character.
G = 7 + 2 = 9 + 5 = 14 ....................I, N
L = 12 + 2 = 14 + 5 = 19 .................N,S
C = 3 + 2 = 5 + 5 = 10.....................E ,K
N = 14 + 2 = 16 + 5 = 21..................P,U
V = 22 + 2 = 24 + 5 = 29..................X,C
P = 16 + 2 = 18 + 5 = 23..................R,W
E = 5 + 2 = 7 + 5 + 12.....................G,L
F = 6 + 2 = 8 + 5 = 13.....................H,M
N = 14 + 2 = 16 + 5 = 21..................P,U
O = 15 + 2 = 17 + 5 = 22.................Q,V
V = 22 + 2 = 24 + 5 = 29.................X,C
F = 6 + 2 = 8 + 5 = 13....................H,M
I = 9 + 2 = 11 + 5 + 16...................K,P
Renbums are a good way to go now
twins: Ok switching those letters to numbers and adding 7 I get ;
21 26 17 28 10 30

- You are looking for names (all Harry Potterish of course) and each line gives first and last name of a person, so it’s two words. There’s a letter missing in each name, add one letter and anagram them and you’ve got it.

twinsrule26 May 7th, 2007, 2:49 am Open Riddles:
51431022010016816850870572152440448440100963
- Find a way to split these numbers into groups. There is a pattern that is common in all the groups of numbers so when you split them look for patterns and you'll know you split it correctly. Solve Riddle to find the name of a Harry Potter character.
G = 7 + 2 = 9 + 5 = 14 ....................I, N
L = 12 + 2 = 14 + 5 = 19 .................N,S
C = 3 + 2 = 5 + 5 = 10.....................E ,K
N = 14 + 2 = 16 + 5 = 21..................P,U
V = 22 + 2 = 24 + 5 = 29..................X,C
P = 16 + 2 = 18 + 5 = 23..................R,W
E = 5 + 2 = 7 + 5 + 12.....................G,L
F = 6 + 2 = 8 + 5 = 13.....................H,M
N = 14 + 2 = 16 + 5 = 21..................P,U
O = 15 + 2 = 17 + 5 = 22.................Q,V
V = 22 + 2 = 24 + 5 = 29.................X,C
F = 6 + 2 = 8 + 5 = 13....................H,M
I = 9 + 2 = 11 + 5 + 16...................K,P
Renbums are a good way to go now
twins: Ok switching those letters to numbers and adding 7 I get ;
21 26 17 28 10 30
No clue what HP character that could connect to, I'll work on a bit more and see if I can figure anything else out.

kala_way May 7th, 2007, 10:27 pm Oky, here's another seating chart one, I think it's a bit easier than the last (:scared: probably) since it's not as strict.
Long, rectangular table, 14 people total:
Ron is in charge of setting the head table for the Weasley’s wedding celebration. Hermione has given him a set of instructions for where to seat people, but she wasn’t very clear and she’s clearly rubbish at poetry.
Beside their better half they’ll eat, or most will wish to move their seat.
Alpha males will cap each end, head of house and furry friend.
Four red heads adorn each side, as long as Tonks stays purple dyed.
All the girls but she and I, are flanked by only boys nearby.
To the right of each end cap, sits their love and other half.
The tamer will sit to your right, and curb the clones for us tonight.
Across from him, with flaxen hair, rests the blushing bride so fair.
Across from me your lovely sis, betwixt two brave curse breakers sits.

So I had a try:
people to place: Bill, Fleur, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Harry, Arthur, Molly, Charlie, Percy, Fred , George, Tonks, Lupin
That would mean Fleur's parents and Gabrielle aren't there. And neither of Ron's brothers brings a girlfriend.
1 Beside their better half they’ll eat, or most will wish to move their seat. The couples are together
2 Alpha males will cap each end, head of house and furry friend. The two adult man, Arthur, the head of the house and the man with the 'furry little problem' = Lupin at each end of the table
3 Four red heads adorn each side, as long as Tonks stays purple dyed. If I got line 2 right, I've a problem here: there are eight red heads = Arthur and his seven children, but if Arthur caps the table I don't have four for each side left :hmm:
4 All the girls but she and I, are flanked by only boys nearby. Tonks and Hermione have one female at their side
5 To the right of each end cap, sits their love and other half. Tonks – Lupin Molly- Arthur
6 The tamer will sit to your right, and curb the clones for us tonight. Charlie will sit to Ron's right and curb the twins (?), does that mean they'll be across the table (no, see7)? or next to him?
7 Across from him, with flaxen hair, rests the blushing bride so fair. Fleur
8 Across from me your lovely sis, betwixt two brave curse breakers sits. Ginny across from Hermione between Bill and ?Harry

kala_way June 10th, 2007, 3:41 am This thread's been a bit slow lately so here's a logic puzzle for everybody :D
Hogwarts has put together an all-star Quidditch team to play in the first ever Youth Quidditch World Cup. Mr. Filch must owl their roster in before morning, but he only has Luna’s bewildering notes to go off of. He has already determined who two of the chasers and one of the beaters are, but he knows that the four remaining spots must represent each of the four Hogwarts houses and each school year from 4th through 7th. Help a squib out!
Luna’s notes: No students has the same initial as their house.
Hailey is not a Chaser.
The 6th year’s house has the same initial as the Seeker.
The player in Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw is the Keeper.
The 7th year, whose name is not Sean, has the same initial as Raina’s house.
The Slytherin, who is a girl, is a fifth year.
Gavin is a Beater.

Ok, I think, if I did it all correctly, that I got this right...
Gryffindor, Chaser, Sean, 4th
Hufflepuff, Keeper, Raina, 6th
Slytherin, Seeker, Hailey, 5th
Ravenclaw, Beater, Gavin, 7th
kala_way June 10th, 2007, 4:41 am Ok, I think, if I did it all correctly, that I got this right...
Gryffindor, Chaser, Sean, 4th
Hufflepuff, Keeper, Raina, 6th
Slytherin, Seeker, Hailey, 5th
Ravenclaw, Beater, Gavin, 7th
almost! 5. The 7th year...has the same initial as Raina’s house.
Good job though, you did it quick!
Puchula June 10th, 2007, 4:47 am What about...
Chaser - Raina - Gryffindor - 7th
Beater - Gabin - Ravenclaw - 4th
Keeper - Sean - Hufflepuff - 6th
Seeker - Hailey - Slytherin - 5th
kala_way June 10th, 2007, 5:02 am What about...
Chaser - Raina - Gryffindor - 7th
Beater - Gabin - Ravenclaw - 4th
Keeper - Sean - Hufflepuff - 6th
Seeker - Hailey - Slytherin - 5th
again almost there!
5. The 7th year...has the same initial as Raina’s house.
so Raina can't be the 7th year because of #1.
Puchula June 10th, 2007, 6:00 am I think I got it this time...
Chaser - Raina - Gryffindor - 4th
Beater - Gavin - Ravenclaw - 7th
Keeper - Sean - Hufflepuff - 6th
Seeker - Hailey - Slytherin - 5th
kala_way June 10th, 2007, 6:03 am I think I got it this time...
Chaser - Raina - Gryffindor - 4th
Beater - Gavin - Ravenclaw - 7th
Keeper - Sean - Hufflepuff - 6th
Seeker - Hailey - Slytherin - 5th
:clap: yay! you got it :D!
Puchula June 10th, 2007, 6:06 am Yay! :D I love that kind of riddles.

Nimbus, because it's a type of cloud, like when your breath mists on a cold day.
