The following rules apply to all sections of the graphics contest:
All graphics must be your own original work. You may use pre-bases though.
All graphics must abide CoS Forums family friendly rules. (http://www.cosforums.com/showthread.php?t=22999) Violation of these rules will be reported promptly.
You may include brushes, textures, text etc unless otherwise told.
You may animate unless otherwise told.

Challenges:



The Theme Challenges include four categories, based on their size (see Size Guideline):
- Theme Avatar
- Theme Signature
- Theme Banner
- Theme Hanging
There will be different subjects for each type of entry.
The winner of each category will be able to suggest a subject for the next week. When you submit an entry for a theme section, please tell us what subject you would like to use for that category if your entry is voted the winner. If you win, but you didn't specify a subject for the next week, the maintainers of the thread will choose for you. Make sure you give a subject for each theme category you enter into.
The same rules will apply to all four categories, the only difference will be the size of the image.
Images may be any shape provided they are within the Size Guidelines (see below).

The Base Challenge involves making a graphic using the image provided as a starting point. The size of the graphic will be defined for each week (Avatar, Signature, Banner or Hanging). The image may need to be cropped and/or resized in order to fit the size guidelines.
You must use the image that is provided.
You may not use any other images in the graphic.
The subject for the Base Challenge will be chosen by the maintainers of this contest each week.

The Text Challenge involves making a graphic based on a quote from the Harry Potter novels. The size of the graphic will be defined for each week (Avatar, Signature, Banner or Hanging).
The graphic must contain at least 3 consecutive words from the quote given.
You may only use words that are a part of the quote.
We will specify each week if pictures may be included in the text challenge or not.
However, when pictures are allowed, the text must be the main focus of the graphic.
In weeks when images are allowed, you may still make a graphic that does not include an image. Image use in those weeks is optional.
In weeks when images are not allowed, you may still use an image to form a background texture, but the image must not be easily identifiable (for example, fire that has been blurred so it is just varying shades of red and orange). The Graphics Contest maintainers reserve the right to make judgements on what is appropriate and what is inappropriate on a case by case basis.
The subject for the Text Challenge will be chosen by the maintainers of this contest each week.

The Emotional Challenge involves making an image based on a given emotion. The size of the graphic will be Avatar, unless not defined otherwise.
You must use Harry Potter images (i.e. Harry Potter movie screen caps, Harry Potter artwork, Harry Potter actors/actresses).
The icon you make must be connected to the subject given.
The subject for the Emotional Challenge will be chosen by the maintainers of this contest each week.




Size Guidelines:


Avatars:
Width: 75 to 125 pixels
Height: 75 to 125 pixelsSignatures:
Width: 200 to 300 pixels
Height: 200 to 300 pixelsBanners: a banner is an image that is wider than it is tall.
Width: 200 to 300 pixels
Height: 100 to 150 pixelsHangings: a hanging is an image that is taller than it is wide.
Width: 100 to 150 pixels
Height: 200 to 300 pixels





Submissions start at 21:00 (9:00 pm) Saturday GMT, and go until 21:00 (9:00 pm) on Friday GMT.

You may enter as many categories as you wish, one image for each category.
You may change your entry while submissions are being accepted. Entries submitted or changed after submissions are closed will not be counted.
A notice will be posted in this thread when submissions open or close.
If you change an entry the day that submissions end please make a post that you did so. The maintainers of this thread start working hours before closing with tables and such. Its hard to catch last minute changes.

From 21:00 (9:00 pm) on Friday GMT to 21:00 (9:00 pm) on Saturday GMT.

All the entries will be displayed in a single post, divided up into the sections.
A notice will be posted in this thread when voting begins or ends.
You may vote for as many or as few categories as you like. Please only vote once in each category. If you vote twice in a category, only your first vote will be counted.






To find out the local time for when the entries are closed for you, you may use the Time Zone Converter (http://www.timezoneconverter.com/cgi-bin/tzc.tzc).

To use it, uncheck the “Use current date/time” box, then put in the time and date for the GMT time, such as the GMT time for the close of submissions. Then select your time zone from the list on the right hand side, and then click on the “Convert” button. This will tell you what the GMT time will be in your own local time.

Yeah it's not easy to find good pics of F&G, it's usually the same one that comes up again and again when you do a google search.

I found the pic her doing a google search, came up on the first or second page, other than that it was her in her dress for the ball.

There are so many good choices sometimes, I don't want to vote for something because I like it alone, but also for it's merit overall.

TTFNi understand your point. completely! sometimes there are so many great entries, and it's really difficult to choose one. it's not easy as well to make up a system to vote - each person has their own preferences. the amount of work done in the graphic can be important to some, while others would take in consideration only the final result, or the most original idea. and there's also the table factor - depending on the entries, your voting method can change completely... :sigh: it's not easy to vote.

I guess it's ok, as long as it's family friendly, and follows the rules of the forum.
*cough* also in the text, how many words can you use and is it ok to animate?

You have to use at least 3 consecutive words from the text given, but of course, you can use the whole text if you want to, there's no max number of words allowed. And yes, you can animate it, as long as the animation doesn't include an image. :)

Is anyone else having trouble finding an image of someone crying?

Yes...I'm going through the screencaps, but nothing so far, and I can't remember someone crying and it actually showing them cry...
