I don`t know much about Leaky, but you could find all about the past door openings including pictures at the HP Lexicon (http://www.hp-lexicon.org/about/sources/jkr.com/jkr-com-door.html).

I seem to remember reading somewhere - mugglnet or the lexicon maybe - that there were videos of the door openings that were taken down at Jo's request. I might be wrong though .

Well, I'm sure she has her hands full with her lovely family especially in the buildup to the film and the book and all that entails (even is she has outside help she is still the mummy)...

Wonder what she feels like having not three impatient bairns to deal with but with a couple of million impatient bairns (well some of us think we still are) to deal with... everyone remember to keep your rattles in the pram!

She is probably afraid to say the slightest thing at the moment. But I am still happy with the canon that the giant squid is the world's largest animagus!

The first time I ever went to London (I must've been about 10 years old) we went to the Natural History Museum. I still have a scrapbook I made  It would be truly amazing to go there again to see Jo. Still, there are going to be so many people applying, I won't get my hopes up too high - I'm sure I'll have just as much fun right here in the little bookshop in my home town. Yeah, but if the US only gets 7, other countries don't have much chance of getting more than 1 or 2.

I think the main reason the US only gets 7 is because Scholastic is paying for airfare, lodging, and tickets for 2 people, per winner. This is approximately $35,000. They should have a certain number of tickets for people who are willing to pay for their own airfare, though! :grumble:

Do you think this is one of those "7" things for the Seventh book etc and maybe something else will be announced in a couple of weeks etc? (Pssst if it is a 7 thing then I would have been happier with 77 or 777 or 7777 :rotfl: well you get the idea)

That would have just frustrated me more. I can't apply anyway, because I am over 21. :upset:

It makes me feel better to think that the chances of getting drawn are slim and that I probably would not have won anyway. If there had been more than 7 chances (as in 77, 777, or 7777) I could not have rationalized this way. :)

How dare Jo try to do something nice for the kids in the country that she lives in?! ;)

Going logically though, I don't think that either Jo or the publishers expected that many people from other countries would want to be paying to travel to and stay in London for that weekend, which is why it's been mainly offered to people in the UK. It seems pretty likely she'll be doing some tours to other countries after the release, since her fanbase is spread all over, but she does have a very young family and so it's not exactly as though she's ignoring the foreign fans if she doesn't.

anabel
May 25th, 2007, 11:42 pm
Obviously Jo can only be in one place for the release. I suppose she might go on tour when the translated versions are released, to meet some fans in other countries. Last time she was in Scotland, and she's been to New York recently, so London seems a good choice to me, not least because it's relatively easy to get to no matter where in Britain you live, and the Natural History Museum is a great location! Reading book 7 surrounded by dinosaurs will be surreal!

Anyway, I'm sure it will be televised.

You can write a letter to her and ask your questions yourself. Mostly there are open letters on the HP sites and from time to time Jo picks some and answers them.

I think non of us has any problem with her wish reading to the kids like she did for HBP. But this time also adults have the chance that changes everything. And I can`t believe that the publisher Bloomsbury hasn`t any idea that people from other countries are interested in the event too. They sell a huge part of the books in countries around the world, that should be a hint.

It looks as though some of you are dissapointed, due to the number of tickets allotted for the reading/signing in London.

Please remember that Jo gave not one, but two charity readings in NYC last summer. If I remember correctly, the events were quite a success, but I am not sure if they were sold out. Approx. 6000 people each night. So, many US fans were able to attend.Far less expensive than airfare and lodging in London. Also, she is willing to stay up all night (after the reading) and sign 1700 books.........1700! :wow: That's a lot of books, fans, etc on no sleep.

When you have 10-20 ? million fans, needless to say, she will never be able to please them all.

Not all HP fans in the world are Americans. Have a look at the International Magical Location Device (http://www.cosforums.com/showthread.php?t=78686). Only 57 percent of those who have voted (only 2235 of currently 74768 members) are Americans. For many people like all the Europeans London is a much better choice than New York.
Nobody complains, as far as I`m aware, that we can`t see her. We are complaining about we can`t sign for a chance to see her. That`s a big difference. Naturally the chance is small with so many fans around the world. But the way from Scottland to London is equal long as for me to London. But I won`t get the chance because I like many others don`t live in an english speaking country.

it was just the way it was written that i i took it as in theory a group of adults could get there. Yeah, I take your point, but my point is that I doubt that it will be "truly" random because they will want the cutest kids or kids with a story (such as sickness) to be in that audience for publicity purposes... I don't think this is JK's view I think it is the ruthless world of publishing and marketing.

Also, she is willing to stay up all night (after the reading) and sign 1700 books.........1700! :wow: That's a lot of books, fans, etc on no sleep. I need to look at the wording because although I have previously commented otherwise (have picture taken with JK while she is signing your book), I think the pessimist in me is rearing its ugly head and I think the books may be signed before people get there. (i.e. she is a signing a few each day as soon as they are printed).

I agree and I hoping that over the coming year or so she may do some mini-tours so she isn't away from home too long and can meet up with her fans etc... At first I thought a long book tour with the family tagging along for some fun and culture but I think that would be over the top with the children not seeing Mummy because she is signing books or going to interviews all day.

I wish today was WOMBAT day. I've been a member 777 days  Well, at least I had a second ago... oh well.

I need to look at the wording because although I have previously commented otherwise (have picture taken with JK while she is signing your book), I think the pessimist in me is rearing its ugly head and I think the books may be signed before people get there. (i.e. she is a signing a few each day as soon as they are printed).

I really don't think that's likely. That would pretty much reduce it to, "Come all the way to London to pick up a signed copy from the pile and go away again." Which would be sad :( Bloomsbury has this on their site:

Please note that JK Rowling will be signing throughout the night. To prevent overcrowding and a long wait, attendees will be allocated a specific time slot for arrival at the Museum.

Anyway, I'm happy that it might be on tv, at least. My mum can tape it whilst we're picking up our copies from the bookstore, and then I can watch it when I get home. Everybody wins :D

Yes there will be plenty of press coverage! :) And if someone doesn't get to go, they are in the majority, so nearly everyone is in the same situation. I have 3 kids under 21, but they probably wouldn't be as interested in going to London then as you might think. In fact, when I mentioned the contest, they all said they'd rather stay home and read it here with their friends. :) After all, they still get the book!!!

I think mine would feel the same. Whilst seeing JK and getting your book would be exciting, mine would much rather be home, reading and enjoying the comforts of home. Not being stuck in a huge crowd of people, some pushing, some pulling, all being noisy!

I agree, I think Slytherin is more likely than Gryffindor because we only think the sword is his artifact, and Ravenclaw because we don't know what her thing is.

Yes, if the theme of founders continues in the WOTM, then Slytherin will most certainly be next. Unless, of course, Jo decides to 'throw us a bone", which seems unlikely given the lack of substantial updates. As others have speculated, June will probably be Slytherin, July, Gryffindor, and August, Ravenclaw. Of course, we may get Harry, or Dumbledore, or someone other than a founder for July, so as to prevent all spoilers. You never know. :)

I don't know, but that would be a good guess, I don't think we'll have Ravenclaw, it would give away too much.

Yes, she may use a pen name, however that wouldn't keep her from giving hints ;) or saying that she had recently "read" a manuscript

The website is her desk etc. - its a good set up and it makes sense to eventually use it for all her work - even if she initially uses a pen name and distances from the website. Why would it be a "bizarre twist" to have one founder or another? I guess I missed something, but we can't truly know what she has in mind for the next one.

There might be a twist - what if that locket with the "S" isn't really the "hallow" of Salazar Slytherin for instance? The Gaunt family already had the Peverell ring, and it's been destroyed. What if that "S" locket came from Merope's mother? We don't know who she was. :)

I think it would be a "bizarre twist," because people speculate that Rowena Ravenclaw will be holding the relic that Voldemort made into a Horcrux. Since we don't know what that is, we figure she will be the August WotM, after people have the book and have learned what her relic is. Make sense?

It would be great but I don't see it happening. I agree with the previous thoughts that she'll give us Slytherin tonight with his locket, and then Gryffindor when the book's nearly with us.

Yes, we think it will be after DH is released...which will spoil it for people who haven't read DH yet but I think this will be a minor spoiler.

We think we'll get Slytherin tonight because we "know" what his relic is, and Gryffindor in July because we think it's his sword - so if it is then there's no spoiler but if it isn't then obviously that is spoiled slightly.

And then Ravenclaw in August.
