How amazing would it be if with all this security surrounding the release of DH the published date was fake and they brought it out early!
No! People have made plans, bought plane tickets ...

So, the countdown to the "next book launch" takes us to 7/7/07, a date that had been hypothesized about for years as to the release of Harry Potter 7. Surely it is not possible that they got the date wrong, since the publication date of 7/21/07 was released over 4 months ago. What do we think about this?

Could it be a different book?

Edit: I just realized, we may hit a new thread tonight, at the rate we are going! :)

Can someone explain this Vista gadget from beginning to end, please. Where is it, why does it say 23 days, has anyone downloaded it, and how many days does it show then?

Did they make that for the original release date - the one that we all expected but which was never announced! This could confirm my theory that she was aiming for 07/07/07 but didn't make it in time, and refused to rush herself too much!

Hi Anabel. I have downloaded it to my computer and there is a clock a calender and a small picture slide show of my pictures on my desktop. Bur what you see in my sig is the clock on JK's desktop when an icon is clicked.

The only thing I can work out is people who have "Windows Vista" have somehow got this countdown thingy. Olive has included the picture in her signature...but the number takes us to 7 July 2007...We don't know why.

I wonder whether we could create a thread to hypothesise this new element? At the very least it would highlight it and show us whether other Vista users have the same icon/picture/thing!

The clock in my sig is not on my desktop yet so it may arrive when the test has finished which may be when 23 days till the book is all I can offer to explain, which according to my calculations would be the 28th June.

Hmm, could it be running on the same time as your computer? That may be why the time reads like that, if your computer's clock is set ahead? Either that or the developers set it wrong... (I'm trying to be pessimistic, heh.)

No Spritey my clock is correct as I looked at it before. Sorry

Do you think, for the benefit of all of us who have not followed this through from the beginning, that you could explain where you have found this picture? You mention the test. Was it during the WOMBAT that you saw it?

Sorry. You must feel really popular right now though!

I bet that the Vista image is scheduled to appear when the test results are ready, 23 days before the book release. Somehow, there was a glitch and it showed up for some viewers - maybe?

How do we know when the WOMBAT results are in? I wasn't asked for my email or anything.

Well, firstly you'll see it on here.....

I can't remember. I think you just check by clicking on the WOMBAT card on her site, it asks for you ID card, takes you through to the next thing which is a kind of Mrs Weasley clock thing...but I guess if the results were ready it would tell you what you got. I mis-copied my code so I never managed, but I do remember knowing that you could from here.

Another thing which might be useful Olive is if you could tell us if it changes tomorrow to 22 days

Thanks! And I suppose it only shows up if you are running Vista. What does it look like - the pic in Olive's sig?

No That was the funny thing really. I wasn't looking for the test and the eraser was the last place I went to as the WOMBAT card was still on the desk so I presumed there was no news. I browsed the site for a few minutes looking in the various other places first like the FAQ poll. Then I found the test and took it and then when I went back to the site later after we had discussed a few questions and there it was on the site. I told about the icon on the desk but had no software to take the photo so I got that later.

As Mad-Eye Moody would say, "CONSTANT VIGILANCE"!!! :D

You just have to keep checking the site. It will probably be within the next week.

Yes Spritey I can do that of course.

First, you wait until the do not disturb sign comes back, then you wait a few more days, maybe a week, while you click on the WOMBAT card to check the clock. It will say your results are being marked, then in the mail, then they will arrive!

It seems strange that there would be a clock only for Vista users. She's never singled out an OS like that before.

Well if you ask me there may be some for others as I now recall something else. I shut down my computer a bit later after the test and there was some updates which needed to come online and when I switched it back on after, there was the icon on her desk.

I suppose it's only fair that we constantly check for results by hitting her site daily, seeing as how we were constantly checking for the test before anyway.

The Vista Sidebar is unique to Vista, though. Other developers have made gadgets for the Deathly Hallows countdown; maybe hers is just the official one.

Maybe there are other versions due to come out later, but this one got slipped in early by mistake?

7 pm EST (in 55 minutes), which is midnight in the UK, would be a good time to check the clock again. It may be set on Jo's time, since it is a countdown instead of an actual clock.
