SageThyme May 1st, 2007, 12:52 pm With the latest news from Jo's site, it's time to open a brand new version.
The latest news being the new Wizard of the Month: Helga Hufflepuff
This is the thread to discuss Jo's site (http://www.jkrowling.com) and any updates, or to complain about the lack of updates!

meesha1971 May 1st, 2007, 1:10 pm Oooh! Shiny new thread! :D
Yeah, there was a cauldron in the athurian legend. Sometimes it is described as a chauldron, sometimes as a cup, named The Cup of the Last Supper.
You know, it's very interesting that Hufflepuff is associated with food charms. In reading through the lore on the 13 Hallows of Britain, a lot of them have something to do with food. Primarily, they seem to be ways to feed troops during battle. I wonder if that will be significant for DH?
silver ink pot May 1st, 2007, 1:28 pm I'll repost this picture of Helga Hufflepuff, the new Witch of the Month:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v624/sip44/JKR%20Site/Helga.jpg
People have been commenting on the red-green imagery of her clothing and jewelry. There is almost every color represented except blue for Ravenclaw.
As far as the special food she is associated with, I immediately thought of the odd peppermint humbugs at the first feast in Book One, and the Treacle Tart in Book 2.
Her cooking prowess reminds me of Molly Weasley, of course. :)
Annett May 1st, 2007, 1:37 pm But there`s blue too! If you go to Jo`s site, you can see her eyes blinking, and their color is definitely blue.

I`m not sure if the appearance between the 13 Hallows is owed the fact that in those times was food very important. Look at how many people starved at that time. But it could also be significant for DH. We saw few people so far that had connections to foot in the story. Naturally Moody, but also Umbridge (with Veritaserum in Harry`s tea) and also Ron and Slughorn.
hedwig_3180 May 1st, 2007, 1:37 pm Even her looks are a bit reminescent of Molly Weasley. Hmmmm...
Could the cup she is holding be Hepzibah Smith's Hufflepuff cup?
olive632 May 1st, 2007, 1:40 pm I like the links to all 4 founders as previously stated in the previous thread. It's a shame the robe around her neck obscures the necklace.
SageThyme May 1st, 2007, 1:41 pm Could the cup she is holding be Hepzibah Smith's Hufflepuff cup?
I would definitely say that that is the Horcrux Cup that Hepzibah Smith inherited, as she is a direct descendent of Helga Hufflepuff.
Given that Hufflepuff is shown with her relic (Cup), I would give just about anything to see a WotM card that shows Rowena Ravenclaw with her relic. *ohpleaseohpleaseohplease*
Annett May 1st, 2007, 1:42 pm Even her looks are a bit reminescent of Molly Weasley. Hmmmm...

I think we can take that for sure. It has two handels, like Hufflepuffs described, and it is golden.
Spritey May 1st, 2007, 1:46 pm So. Will this be our last version before DH? Or will our whining for updates get us at least another thread? Ooh, it's so exciting!

Me too. Rowena's always seemed fairly awesome, so I'd love a WotM card for her. I think she might be left until August, though.
SageThyme May 1st, 2007, 1:48 pm My 'inner eye' is telling me that since we're seeing a Founder, that the months of June and July we'll be seeing Salazar Slytherin with his Locket and Godric Gryffindor with his Sword. I'm betting that she'll save Rowena Ravenclaw for August's WotM, since showing her before DH is released would give up a BIG hint for the "unknown Horcrux".
Or we could see Ravenclaw as the final reward for the 3rd Wombat - whenever that may come (*sigh*).
olive632 May 1st, 2007, 1:50 pm Yes that is also feasible as it is still unsure whether gryffindor's sword is a horcrux or not.
Annett May 1st, 2007, 1:52 pm So. Will this be our last version before DH? Or will our whining for updates get us at least another thread? Ooh, it's so exciting!
If it goes like it was the last weeks, we will have a new version of this thread a few days before DH.
And I`m think you`re right, we`ll get Rowena for August. That makes me so curious about her relic. :grumble: 80 days left until we know.
meesha1971 May 1st, 2007, 2:07 pm But there`s blue too! If you go to Jo`s site, you can see her eyes blinking, and their color is definitely blue.
That's true. And she does look a bit like Molly Weasley. That's interesting.

The 13 Hallows of Britain (http://www.mystical-www.co.uk/arthuriana2z/h.htm#HOB) - there are some interesting correlations with the story overall, but I won't get into that here. :) I highlighted the ones dealing specifically with food.
'Dyrnwyn, the Sword of Rhydderch the Generous' - Possessing the ability to burst into flame.
'The Hamper of Gwyddno Garanhir' - Possessing the ability to turn one meal into one-hundred meals.
'The Horn of Bran' - Possessing the ability to provide any drink.
'The Chariot of Morgan the Wealthy' - Possessing the ability to travel at great speed to any location.
'The Halter of Clyno Eiddyn' - Possessing the ability to provide a horse of the seeker's choice.
'The Knife of Llawfronedd the Horseman' - Possessing the ability to cut enough food for twenty-four men.
'The Cauldron of Diwrnach the Giant' - Possessing the ability to heat the food for a hero but not a coward.
'The Whetstone of Tudwal Tudglyd' - Possessing the ability to ensure death would follow wounding.
'The Coat of Padarn Red-Coat' - Possessing the ability to identify those of noble birth.
'The Crock of Rhygenydd' - Possessing the ability to provide favourite foods.
'The Dish of Rhygenydd' - Possessing the ability to provide favourite foods.
'The Chessboard of Gwenddolau' - Possessing the ability to play by itself.
'The Mantle of Arthur' - Possessing the ability to make the wearer invisible to any observer.
According to Arthurian legend the treasures could only be used by the King or his representative in battle. So that - and the connection between Hufflepuff and food - kind of makes me wonder if that will be significant.
Annett May 1st, 2007, 2:13 pm Thanks for the link, meesha!
There was a thread somewhere at CoS abut the Arturian legends but I couldn`t find it anymore.
meesha1971 May 1st, 2007, 2:16 pm Thanks for the link, meesha!
There was a thread somewhere at CoS abut the Arturian legends but I couldn`t find it anymore.
 I was looking for that too! That was a good thread. There are so many interesting correlations with those legends. Did you know that - according to the legen - "Ron" was the name given to King Arthur's lance? :eyebrows:
*ahem* Sorry to get off topic. New wizard of the month! Yay!
BurrowGhoul May 1st, 2007, 2:33 pm I did the math on my fingers (Math major in college, but still a bit slow at it...) and realized that if she was doing all the Founders, we wouldn't get to them all before the book came out, so I think you're absolutely right, we will get Ravenclaw in August, well after anyone who cares already knows what the Ravenclaw relic was.
TonytheTerrible May 1st, 2007, 3:14 pm For that matter, though, no one really knows what Gryffindor's relic is, although most hypothesize it was his sword. That is still yet to be determined.
beth83 May 1st, 2007, 4:35 pm i would imagine that the cup she is holding is the one that harry is looking for.
i like the idea that we may be about to get the founders as the wizard/witch of the month.
do we know who does the drawings?
MrsLupin May 1st, 2007, 5:20 pm I agree, the cup is a fabulous touch for us obsessive fans. Thanks Jo!
PadfootBlack16 May 1st, 2007, 5:26 pm new thread!1
new wizard of the month! great....lets just hope for a few more updates lol.
unconvinced May 1st, 2007, 5:29 pm Perhaps we will be seeing some of the other founders and the Horcrux that goes with them and in the case of Ravenclaw/Gryffindor, Jo may hind it slightly to give us something to look for.
Annett May 1st, 2007, 5:37 pm new thread!1
new wizard of the month! great....lets just hope for a few more updates lol.
Take your time and look at it in detail, there is more than first meets the eyes! And not quantity counts but also quality. I`m more than happy with this update.
PadfootBlack16 May 1st, 2007, 6:14 pm oo dont get me wrong, im happy with this...i just know the excitment wont hold to long.....
RavenEye May 1st, 2007, 6:36 pm For that matter, though, no one really knows what Gryffindor's relic is, although most hypothesize it was his sword. That is still yet to be determined.
Given that it had "Godric Gryffindor" engraved on it, it's as certain as it could get.
BelleGreenfield May 1st, 2007, 6:48 pm Her brock has like purple-y blue jewels around it...
Well it was mentioned that something else of Gryffindors could have been a horcrux... so we might get Slytherin before we get Gryffindor. I agree that we won't get Rowena Ravenclaw until Aug. though. Just makes sense.
Also I had wondered how the WotM card differed from the Chocolate Frog cards... which are from the video game so I doubt we can gain much true knowledge from them, however, if you go to this link http://www.hp-lexicon.org/wizards/founders.html (http://www.hp-lexicon.org/wizards/founders.html) then you can see that at least in appearance -chubby, red hair- Hufflepuff looks close to the WotM card. However, we don't see any kind of "artifacts" in the pictures, and we only see the ladies with wands...
anabel May 1st, 2007, 6:59 pm we will get Ravenclaw in August, well after anyone who cares already knows what the Ravenclaw relic was.
Not fair! I want clues now! Let's leave old Salazar until August instead! We know what his relics are.
TonytheTerrible May 1st, 2007, 7:00 pm Given that it had "Godric Gryffindor" engraved on it, it's as certain as it could get.
Everyone knows that the sword belonged to Gryffindor, yes, but we were talking about possible horcruxes, not just what belonged to whom. It has yet to be determined whether or not the sword is a horcrux.
meesha1971 May 1st, 2007, 8:29 pm Everyone knows that the sword belonged to Gryffindor, yes, but we were talking about possible horcruxes, not just what belonged to whom. It has yet to be determined whether or not the sword is a horcrux.
True, but Dumbledore said the sword was the only artifact belonging to Gryffindor that he was aware of. Although the Sorting Hat did belong to him - Jo already shot that down as a Horcrux though. Since the sword has been in Dumbledore's office since COS and Dumbledore was actively researching Horcruxes since then, it is unlikely that the sword is a Horcrux. However, the sword will likely be significant - it is a weapon that Harry can wield.
If Jo plans on using the Founders as the WoTM then Ravenclaw will most likely be the WoTM for August since she is the only one with an unknown artifact.

Freaky May 1st, 2007, 9:08 pm I can see this turning into a horcrux debate!
I'm really glad that she seems to be giving us the founder's in her WOTM...seems kinda logical really. Amazing that she didn't do it beforehand.
Okay...birthdays to expect this month. Just Madam Sprout on the 15th
Griffins_Door May 1st, 2007, 9:12 pm I originally posted this over in Divination studies, but this seems to be where the discussion on this topic is. So here is my thoughts:
"Today (May 1) Helga Hufflepuff was revealed as the Wizard of the Month on jkrowling.com. I find the picture of her very interesting. Others have as well - many who left comments on the mugglenet news forum have thought along a similar line, but having a thread here seemed appropriate.
Looking at the picture, 4 items have a certain 'sparkle' to them. These are the green ring (not the red one), the cup, the necklace-that-could-be-a-locket, and the brooch thing. It would appear possible, if not probable, that these are the Horcruxes that Harry will be searching for. "
We already know that the ring was a horcrux, and Hufflepuff's Cup is a sure thing as well. Could the brooch thing a ma bobber be Ravenclaw's?
olive632 May 1st, 2007, 9:16 pm Well at the moment we can only guess at the next 3 Witches or wizards of the month but I reckon it would be nice to have Rowena Ravenclaw next. JK can still keep us guessing as to the Horcruxes but can give us other information on her speciality like she has done for Helga.
meesha1971 May 1st, 2007, 9:46 pm But Dumbledore never said for sure that there was a Gryffindor horcrux.
Right, but he said that he was fairly certain that the sword was the only artifact belonging to Gryffindor. It is possible that Voldemort wanted to use the sword for a Horcrux, but was never able to get it. We've been left with an unknown object belonging to either Gryffindor or Ravenclaw. Since Dumbledore was fairly certain that the sword was the only Gryffindor artifact, the unknown Horcrux is most likely something that belonged to Ravenclaw.
If the founders are indeed going to be the next few WoTM's, I guess we'll have our answer soon enough. :)

We know that Voldemort is the heir of Slytherin, right? Couldn't it be possible that Harry could be an heir of Gryffindor? To quote Dumbledore in COS, "only a true Gryffindor could have pulled that sword out of the hat".
The obvious answer here is that Dumbledore was referring to Harry's house affiliation. But what if Dumbledore knew that Harry was a descendant of Gryffindor and was indirectly hinting to that? If that is true, Harry could actually be considered a "relic" of Gryffindor's, and Voldemort might have used him as such in lieu of an actual relic. I have never supported the 'Harry is a Horcrux" theory, but I guess that if this were true, it would certainly validate the possibility.
If Jo were to given us Godric Gryffindor as a WOtM, though, I hardly think she would give away any major spoilers like a possible horcrux.
PadfootBlack16 May 1st, 2007, 10:10 pm wow...this seriously is turning into a horcrux thread....well....i realy do think we will get slythirn in june, gryffindor in july and ravenclaw in august....and each one (other than ravenclaw) will probably have clues...no, im most anticipating gryffindors only because it will tell me whether my theory him being dobbys ancestor is right or not lol.....cant wait.
SageThyme May 1st, 2007, 10:38 pm We know that Voldemort is the heir of Slytherin, right? Couldn't it be possible that Harry could be an heir of Gryffindor? To quote Dumbledore in COS, "only a true Gryffindor could have pulled that sword out of the hat".
Jo already dismissed the notion that Harry is a Gryffindor heir.
I'll find the quote and post it. Got it:
MA: What about Harry's family — his grandparents — were they killed?
JKR: No. This takes us into more mundane territory. As a writer, it was more interesting, plot-wise, if Harry was completely alone. So I rather ruthlessly disposed of his entire family apart from Aunt Petunia. I mean, James and Lily are massively important to the plot, of course, but the grandparents? No. And, because I do like my backstory: Petunia and Lily's parents, normal Muggle death. James's parents were elderly, were getting on a little when he was born, which explains the only child, very pampered, had-him-late-in-life-so-he's-an-extra-treasure, as often happens, I think. They were old in wizarding terms, and they died. They succumbed to a wizarding illness. That's as far as it goes. There's nothing serious or sinister about those deaths. I just needed them out of the way so I killed them.
MA: That sort of shuts down Heir of Gryffindor [theories], as well.
JKR: [Pause.] Yeah. Well - yeah.
PadfootBlack16 May 1st, 2007, 10:56 pm well...notice the way she says it....she seems to hesitate over soemthing...questiong is what?? i mean she didnt just come out and say it. she paused and said yeah. WELL-YEAH. Look at the part in caps...it seemes as if she was about to add something but decided not to. Im pretty sure there is more to that answer.

It looked like she didn't mean to close down that avenue of enquiry so definitely but then realised she had. Jo likes to leave us with something to speculate on, you know.
cemour May 2nd, 2007, 12:45 am I saw the WotM and the first thing I noticed was the cup she was holding. I then came to the forums and found a new thread and many posts about the cup. Glad I am not loosing it and that great minds still think alike.

Well, she shut down the idea of Harry being the heir of Gryffindor. But that's not to say that someone else couldn't be descended from Gryffindor. ;)
Annett May 2nd, 2007, 9:02 am I'm really glad that she seems to be giving us the founder's in her WOTM...seems kinda logical really. Amazing that she didn't do it beforehand.
I found it consequentially that she saved the founders for the end. It were really unbearable to get Helga earlier, because we would have longed for the others. And because we all suspect that Rowena will hold a clue, she couldn`t show it earlier.
olive632 May 2nd, 2007, 9:54 am Has anyone also noticed that Helga also seems to be wearing a tiara too although this is not sparkling. Tiara have come up before in the books.
Runes May 2nd, 2007, 10:15 am The reason for so much jewellery must be that she was an important person, right? I always assumed that all the four founders must have been prominent figures in that time, and hence their dressing like royalty.
HGHPRW May 2nd, 2007, 11:38 am The red ring doesn't sparkle...I wonder if it means something. Maybe it means I'm overanalyzing, like usual. I wonder, because the cup sparkles in two places, the place on the rim seems to have something on it...?
anabel May 2nd, 2007, 12:07 pm The reason for so much jewellery must be that she was an important person, right? I always assumed that all the four founders must have been prominent figures in that time, and hence their dressing like royalty.
Wealthy enough to build a castle, anyway. School founders tend to be very rich, important people.

Good catch. In the Identifying & Tracking Down the Remaining Horcruxes v.5 (http://www.cosforums.com/showthread.php?t=102079) thread the tiara being the last unknown Horcrux is a big issue. But people think that it was it's an Ravenclaw artefact.

Also, its interesting that green for Slytherin is closest to Hufflepuff's heart in the pic :eyebrows:.
iheartmywheezy May 2nd, 2007, 4:51 pm they do look quite similar. it is mainly the jewels that do it for me. that, and also the fact that they're both gold. it could definitely be a matter of "artistic interpretation".
do we know who does the graphic work for her website...? :hmm:
EDIT: wow, karatekid...i guess we were thinking the same thing!

It is, isn't it? People usually pair Ravenclaw with Slytherin, but Hufflepuff would be an excellent twist. Now that would be a rocky relationship - how would Helga "Come on in, I made cookies!" Hufflepuff cope with Slytherin's "PUREBLOODS ONLY PLZ!" attitude?
Yes, I'm a shipper  But really, it would be interesting - maybe this is a clue to Jo's "heart of it all" 'ship? (The one mentioned in the interview with Jeremy Paxman, that no one had guessed?) Like, it was something to do with the Founders?

But there are 4 tiny rubies around the big emerald at least.
And I`d like to know who does the artwork for the site too.

Oh yeah, I didn't notice them :). Thats odd, it looks like there are some grey beads there too, you'd have thought that they would be blue for Ravenclaw.

well, to me, the beads do look kind of blue. kind of, i don't know, purpley-bluish, maybe? i know that's not exactly a color, but you know. :p and, if they are blue...there is also a gold piece [presumably the back that all of the jewels are affixed to], which could be gryffindor and/or hufflepuff. that would mean all four house colors are there to some point. maybe she has green the largest because she loves emeralds. :)
do we know for sure where the house colors came from? i mean, maybe each founder did not choose the colors for his or her house. maybe one chose them for all of them, or they were chosen later...

 I see the emerald, then around it about 8 beads, 4 red and the other 4 look as if they'e grey.
Actually, I just looked at the site and you're right, thwey do look a kinda purple - I was basing the grey off the screenshots .
Green might be bigges tjust because she liked emeralds, but I like the idea that its significant to her relaitonship with Slytherin.
Annett May 2nd, 2007, 5:24 pm All the jewels are emeralds or rubies, right? I can`t see a reason why she should wearing the colours of both but nothing from Ravenclaw (except of her eyes) or herself.

Next to the rubies that surround the big emerald there are some purpley ones that could be for Ravenclaw . But it is odd that the rubies and emeralds are so prominent compared to the others :/
iheartmywheezy May 2nd, 2007, 5:39 pm it may seem odd, but we may also be reading way too much into it. :p
after all, jewelry is just jewelry. and the most prominent thing on her body is her robes, which are black and yellow for her house.

iheartmywheezy May 2nd, 2007, 6:08 pm The one on the right looks more like a jug than a cup to me.
:hmm: yeah, i can definitely see that. to me, they look more similar than the same thing. you know, like they could be part of the same tea set, but not the same item in that tea set.....now, there's an interesting idea.
if they were done by the same artist, it would be a lot easier to tell.
RiverIsis May 2nd, 2007, 6:18 pm :tu: I agree the one of the right definitely seems to have a pouring spout.
Runes May 2nd, 2007, 7:15 pm The cup in the children's cover doesn't seem to have two handles.
It would be an interesting twist if there were some sort of relationships between the founders, wouldn't it? Though Salazar seems like the loner type to me, and I can't imagine Helga running after him

Nicodemus May 2nd, 2007, 11:44 pm This is my first post on the site.
I noticed that if you follow the sparkle it makes a lightning bolt drawn from bottom to top. Maybe looking into it a little too much.

Welcome to CoS Nicodemus. Enjoy your stay. :)
What sparkle do you exaclty mean?
Edit: I see now what you mean. It would look like this

Looks abit lightning bolt like, but only a bit IMO.
TonytheTerrible May 2nd, 2007, 11:53 pm Welcome to CoS Nicodemus. Enjoy your stay. :)
What sparkle do you exaclty mean?
He is referring to the sparkles on Helga Hufflepuff, starting from the left bottom and following up to the top. It actually does form somewhat of a lightning bolt, although I think this may be a little over-analyzed. :)
Tenshi May 2nd, 2007, 11:57 pm He is referring to the sparkles on Helga Hufflepuff, starting from the left bottom and following up to the top. It actually does form somewhat of a lightning bolt, although I think this may be a little over-analyzed. :)
Yes, I figured it out. *points at edit above* Thanks anyway :)
BelleGreenfield May 3rd, 2007, 12:24 am As for relationships between the founders, I could believe Helga with Salazar... Hufflepuffs are all about hardwork right? And Slytherin's are ambition... so don't hardwork and ambition kind of go hand in hand?
And I just sort of always thought if there were relationships between them that Godric and Rowena would have been together...I dont know why, just my opion I guess...
But if each is to represent an element Gryffindor=fire, Raveclaw=air, Hufflepuff=earth, and Slytherin=water then don't water and earth make a good pair and air and fire go together better. I mean doesn't it explain why Salazar and Godric didn't get along... you can't mix fire and water... but earth and air were good friends...
It's all very interesting...
magical4maia May 3rd, 2007, 6:26 am Well I think Jo has done a fine job in getting the major fans extra excited...so much that we are analyzing the jewelry and the sparkles, which might be important, but I can't help but think that somewhere Jo is reading these posts and is thoroughly amused at our talent at getting information out of anything. Just focusing on the cup that she is holding though, I believe it is one of the Horcruxes:
Harry edged forward a little to get a better view of what looked like a small golden cup with two finely wrought handles. 'I wonder whether you know what it is, Tom?' whispered Hepzibah, and Voldemort stretched out a long-fingered hand and lifted the cup by one handle out of its snug silken wrappings. Harry thought he saw a red gleam in his dark eyes...'A badger,' murmured Voldemort, examining the engraving upon the cup. 'Then this was...?' 'Helga Hufflepuff's, as you well know, you clever boy!' said Hepzibah... pg. 436 HBP American edition
anabel May 3rd, 2007, 8:38 am As for relationships between the founders, I could believe Helga with Salazar... Hufflepuffs are all about hardwork right? And Slytherin's are ambition... so don't hardwork and ambition kind of go hand in hand?
I think the distance between Hufflepuff and Slytherin house is as great as the difference between Gryffindor and Slytherin. Hufflepuffs aren't ambitious, as a general rule - they are loyal and humble - the very opposite of selfish, ambitious Slytherin. But if Helga and Salazar did have anything going on, it must have come to an end when he fought with all three of the other founders and walked off in a huff, leaving a deadly monster behind.
Annett May 3rd, 2007, 8:59 am But if each is to represent an element Gryffindor=fire, Raveclaw=air, Hufflepuff=earth, and Slytherin=water then don't water and earth make a good pair and air and fire go together better. I mean doesn't it explain why Salazar and Godric didn't get along... you can't mix fire and water... but earth and air were good friends...
I think you`re right. Earth could stop water when there is a flood and water allowed the earth to create vegetation. Without air no fire can breath. On the other hand water and earth kill the fire, therefore the only combination I can see is Slytherin/Hufflepuff and Gryffindor/Ravenclaw.

MAGICicalMUggle May 3rd, 2007, 10:32 am I think that its really interesting that Helga Hufflepuff was the wizard of the month!...especially this close to the release date!..And i'm positive that she is holding the cup Horcrux!...My guess is that the wizard of the next month could be Godric Gryfindor or Rowena Ravenclaw!

No, those would both be spoilers. If we do get a founder next, it will be Slytherin, with the locket. For the month of July, she will probably give us one of the two, but probably just the one who did not supply Voldemort with a relic with which to make a horcrux.
For those who are keeping track, I think our next "day of anticipation", in which we hope to recieve an update, is tomorrow, Friday, May 4th. On this day, it will be 77 days until the release of DH, and since it is a Friday, would fit all the other criteria for the giving of a Wombat. :eyebrows:
Please, Jo, make it happen?!

If you want to brush up on your HP knowledge, but don’t know where to start…..I ran across something interesting while visiting Scholastic’s new HP web site with my son. He wanted a new screensaver and they have a new (REALLY COOL) one, here: http://www.scholastic.com/harrypotter/downloads/screensaver.htm (http://www.scholastic.com/harrypotter/downloads/screensaver.htm). The preview shows some of it, but not all, it is a loooooooong screensaver. Anyway, it gives little bits of trivia with every picture and then shows you which book and chapters to learn even more about the subject.

But - but - there's a song! How can we not get it tomorrow? We have a song! Really, though, I get a good feeling about tomorrow. It's 7 months since the last WOMBAT, 77 days 'till DH, and a Friday. How much more perfect can it get? Optimism optimism optimism!

Don't feel too bad. English is my first language and I am a Harry Potter fanatic. I have read the books at least 6 or 7 times each and I still thought that the questions were tough. The links that I posted above (to the other Wombat tests) were very helpful. Whomever wrote these articles had a great thought process to answering the questions. It really helped to read them, and they are pretty interesting.
JKR wrote somewhere that they would not be like any other Harry Potter trivia questions, and she was right. Sometimes there seems to be more than one correct answer, so I just went with the one I thought best fit.
At any rate, you have to try, just for the fun of it.;)

Mark my words -- when this thread has been inactive for 24-30 hours at a time, that's when Jo's going to update, and then this thread will explode KA BA BLOOM!

There were a lot of people that hadn`t take the first test. If you haven`t already an ID-code, you will get one at the end of the test.
Make sure to copy it down, best mail it to yourself.

Ah Ok I didn't know. At the beginning of the 2nd test you had to enter the code and I thought it's the only possibility to do the test.
GodricHollow May 4th, 2007, 11:29 am That was the ID from test one so that you could have your two results on the same ID.
Annett May 4th, 2007, 11:32 am There was an option at the beginning of the 2nd test. You could choose if you had a code yet or not. If you had, you could insert it, if not, you got one at the end.

Mexicant: There is no reason to worry about the Wombat. Last time it seems that there were various answers which led to the same score in some cases. So there were multiple correct answers on some of the questions. Other questions are pretty obvious. It's actually alot of fun.
I don't know why everyone wants this to be over so soon. This is the last Wombat ever probably!

That is the time (British) that they're usually up. I usually see them here in the eastern US at 8 am and that was more than an hour ago.
Looks like they'll be waiting until I'm on vacation for the next 2 1/2 weeks to put it up - I hope not - sorry, folks, I'm just looking out for myself here. :argh:

It's a little greyish-yellow icon in the address bar, or on the end of a tab if you're using Firefox. I think you have to have the site bookmarked for it to show up (...maybe?), but I only just noticed it today and I've always had Jo's site bookmarked. Maybe I'm just unobservant.
Annett May 4th, 2007, 2:41 pm I think I know what you meaned by favicon now, Spritey. I saw it first today, a few hours ago. I think it isn`t there a long time. Is the countdown on bloomsbury also new?

I actually do have a million things to get done today. If it is any consolation, Spiderman 3 starts showing today (in the US).
karatekid May 4th, 2007, 3:47 pm Aw, the song didn't work! :( I bet we'll get it like a month after DH! :rotfl:
Still, we can hope for next week, 70 days.
silver ink pot May 4th, 2007, 3:49 pm Next Friday is WOMBAT day! Yay! Next Friday is WOMBAT day! Yay Yay!
OMG - please no!!!!!!!! I can't listen to the Wombat song for another week!
It's like Santa in Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer when he can't get that repetitious Elf song out of his head.
No More Wombat Song!
I beg you!
Annett May 4th, 2007, 3:59 pm Next Friday is WOMBAT day! Yay! Next Friday is WOMBAT day! Yay Yay!
Sorry SIP, but if you can`t stand it, I hope it works with Jo the same way. We will sing so long that she can`t hear it anymore and give us the WOMBAT.
Runes May 4th, 2007, 4:00 pm OMG - please no!!!!!!!! I can't listen to the Wombat song for another week!
It's like Santa in Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer when he can't get that repetitious Elf song out of his head.
How dare you make fun of my song! :rotfl: It's the only thing that's keeping us from going completely insane.
Do you think there's a chance we'll get the WOMBAT after DH?
Everyday is WOMBAT day! Yay! Everyday is WOMBAT day! Yay yay!
RiverIsis May 4th, 2007, 4:02 pm I have only just learnt the words and tune - I don't want to stop singing it now :p Next Friday is WOMBAT day! Yay! Next Friday is WOMBAT day! Yay Yay!
silver ink pot May 4th, 2007, 4:06 pm How dare you make fun of my song! It's the only thing that's keeping us from going completely insane.
Or perhaps it's a sign that you have!
:rotfl:
I know it's going to drive me insane before next Friday, haha.
mysterious May 4th, 2007, 4:16 pm Or maybe we should stard with whining, begging and what else came to our mind to convince Jo!
We have been doing that for over 2 versions of this thread now....:rotfl:
Runes May 4th, 2007, 4:19 pm I have only just learnt the words and tune
Haha, the good thing about this is that everyone can come up with their own tune -- kind of like the School Song Dumbledore has everyone sing in PS/SS
I know it's going to drive me insane before next Friday, haha.
Hope it has a similar effect on Jo!
iheartmywheezy May 4th, 2007, 4:28 pm i guess i'll just jump right in here. :D
i don't know if it means anything, either, but it also appears to me that the candle is a bit more, uh, active that usual. i would not say that the whole thing is shaking necessarily, but the flame itself is moving about a bit more than i remember it usually doing.
i also think i agree with whoever said that the lighting of the room has seemed to change a little bit. it definitely looks darker than it usually does, at least to me.
you know what this means... not only will there be a wombat next friday, but deathly hallows will have... a candle... AND... a dark room! *gasp* i know. my conclusions are amazing. :D
in all seriousness, it might just be our active imaginations. who knows?

I hope it doesn't - the poor woman won't ever give us an update if she is in the Closed Ward at St. Mungo's Hospital!
iheartmywheezy May 4th, 2007, 4:32 pm I hope it doesn't - the poor woman won't ever give us an update if she is in the Closed Ward at St. Mungo's Hospital!
yes, but at least we'll know where to find her.
Freaky May 4th, 2007, 4:36 pm Erm, having read the last several pages of this version and the last of this thread I think everyone is already doing these things.
...and all the threads before that. I don't think a thread has gone by without whinging and begging, we're none of us happy even if we've just been given an update...that's last about 2 weeks, tops, and then we start wanting more again.
That's just the problem with something really good, when it goes missing from your life, you just want more.
AnnaSofia May 4th, 2007, 4:52 pm If we don't get anything in eight minutes i'll be loosing my hopes... but then again maybe the door will open at 21:07...
Hey under the candle appear this message Peeves woz are! does this mean anything?

Freaky May 4th, 2007, 5:02 pm Hey under the candle appear this message Peeves woz are! does this mean anything?
I believe that does come up if you wait long enough...but I could be wrong, it's never happened to me, but I'm not patient enough.
I honestly thought when I came back here, seeing the 4 pages extra posts since my last visit that there was something exciting to report. But no.
LoveWeasleys May 4th, 2007, 5:16 pm Well, I just read her diary post from Feb 6th and I think I can speak for all of us that we were happy to take the journey with her and weren't not going anywhere!! I can't wait to discuss the final book on-line!!!
BB
Tenshi May 4th, 2007, 5:22 pm Yes, the favicon thing is new. I also noticed it today for the first time.
And Ha I knew it. No WOMBAT today.
Maybe Lightmaker is ill and can't change the site or on strike ... Eeeks. :err:
Freaky May 4th, 2007, 5:30 pm And Ha I knew it. No WOMBAT today.
You're so mean! Still another 6.5 hours left to go till midnight, stranger things have happened.
Daelin May 4th, 2007, 5:30 pm Jo already dismissed the notion that Harry is a Gryffindor heir.
Yes indeed. What's interesting, though, is that JKR separates "heir" from "true". We know, from CoS and Dumbledore's statement, that Harry is a "true Gryffindor", which seems to be more important than simple bloodlines.
We may well see that a "True Slytherin" is greater than the Slytherin Heir.
But for now, I would really like JKR to open up the Room of Requirement; my timing is atrocious, as I have always been involved in things the times it was opened before, and it closed before I could have a look.
** wah **
Annett May 4th, 2007, 5:33 pm I believe that does come up if you wait long enough...but I could be wrong, it's never happened to me, but I'm not patient enough.
Peeves comes when you stared long enough at that site.
I honestly thought when I came back here, seeing the 4 pages extra posts since my last visit that there was something exciting to report. But no.
But there (http://www.cosforums.com/showthread.php?t=104716) is a shiny new thread only for the announcements of updates. Subscribe it and you will know as soon as there is an update without our whining and pleading.
Freaky May 4th, 2007, 5:34 pm But there is a shiny new thread only for the announcements of updates. Subscribe it and you will know as soon as there is an update without our whining and pleading.
That is so much less exciting though!
Annett May 4th, 2007, 5:35 pm That is so much less exciting though!
True, but I think it`s a good idea for all who where dissappointed about our nonsense after excited coming here because of 4 new pages.
Tenshi May 4th, 2007, 5:48 pm You're so mean! Still another 6.5 hours left to go till midnight, stranger things have happened.
I'm not mean. I'm pessimistic. I don't expect anything, so my hopes won't get up. :p
Spritey May 4th, 2007, 5:53 pm Maybe the favicon means they're updating! Or planning to update! Or thinking about updating!
*nods furiously*
Who wants to check the site at midnight? :p
Freaky May 4th, 2007, 5:59 pm okay for those of us who don't use Firefox, can you tell us what "favicon" is please?
Spritey May 4th, 2007, 6:03 pm okay for those of us who don't use Firefox, can you tell us what "favicon" is please?
Yay Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Favicon)! It explains things far better than I could (and reading it over, they should display in IE whether you have a site bookmarked or not). CoS has a little animated blue one, and Jo's site now has a little greyish-yellow icon with "JKR" on it.
Alastor May 4th, 2007, 6:07 pm I don't think this word is a firefox thingy. FF doesn't have favourites, they have bookmarks.
The tiny little icon which every site has in your bookmarks/favs has changed.
Edit: As Spritey said better above.
Freaky May 4th, 2007, 6:08 pm Yay Wiki! It explains things far better than I could. CoS has a little animated blue one, and Jo's site now has a little greyish-yellow icon with "JKR" on it.
Okay, thanks for the link...maybe I'm being ignorant or really stupid but I didn't understand their explanation. Maybe someone can post a screen shot of the favicon for JK's site, then maybe those less knowledgeable amongst us could work it out?
Spritey May 4th, 2007, 6:12 pm Have a cap:

Freaky May 4th, 2007, 6:13 pm thank you Spritey. All mine just have the Internet Explorer emblem still
Spritey May 4th, 2007, 6:23 pm No problem - sorry for assuming everyone was a browser geek like me :D Unfortunately, I can't check my theory in IE, since it won't load up for me right now... I keep opening it and it crashes. Gosh, just what I need. A virus. I scanned yesterday D:
Still, they've obviously updated the site; just not with what we expected. Oh well.
olive632 May 4th, 2007, 6:26 pm Yes mine is the same. just internet explorer on the tab.
I'll join in the rhyme
Next Friday is WOMBAT day! Yay! Next Friday is WOMBAT day! Yay yay!
beth83 May 4th, 2007, 6:26 pm So, when do we officially declare it won't happen. I am not sure it is appropriate to start eating Ben & Jerry's at 8:30am (USA time).
do we really need an excuse to crack open the ben and jerry's? the fact that i'm breathing is enough of an excuse for me
as it's now almost 6:30pm here i'm guessing that today isn't wombat day! so i'm going to join in with song:
Next Friday is WOMBAT day! Yay! Next Friday is WOMBAT day! Yay Yay!
AnnaSofia May 4th, 2007, 6:34 pm I didn't see that favicon all day and i didn't know what was all about, but now i put Jos site in my favourites and when i reopen the site the favicon came up.
Freaky May 4th, 2007, 6:37 pm I didn't see that favicon all day and i didn't know what was all about, but now i put Jos site in my favourites and when i reopen the site the favicon came up.
I just redid my favourites - and yes, it now has the favicon thing! Clever people all of you
olive632 May 4th, 2007, 6:38 pm Also another thing that would be nice is a FAQ poll.
Saturday is WOMBAT day! Yay! Saturday is WOMBAT day! Yay yay!
A variation
gertiekeddle May 4th, 2007, 6:39 pm Also another thing that would be nice is a FAQ poll. True. We miss that for a very long time now.
Tenshi May 4th, 2007, 6:46 pm I never recognised a FAQ poll before.
What kind of poll would that be?
gertiekeddle May 4th, 2007, 6:52 pm I never recognised a FAQ poll before.
What kind of poll would that be?When you go on 'F.A.Q.' you wil find four options: About the books, About me, Other stuff and Poll. The last one is the F.A.Q. poll.
Out of several fan questions JK used to answer one from time to time, but let us decide before from three options. It's long ago the last one was asked.
Annett May 4th, 2007, 6:55 pm I never recognised a FAQ poll before.
What kind of poll would that be?
At Jo`s site there are three envelopes (after using the paper clip). Each of the letters will bring you to the poll site. For a look at a FAQ-Poll, here is a link (http://www.hp-lexicon.org/about/sources/jkr.com/jkr-com-poll.html).
olive632 May 4th, 2007, 6:58 pm Yes and a while back we discussed what we would like to have answered. Any suggestions?
Spritey May 4th, 2007, 7:00 pm I didn't see that favicon all day and i didn't know what was all about, but now i put Jos site in my favourites and when i reopen the site the favicon came up.
I just managed to get IE to work, and it showed up without it being bookmarked... maybe it's because you regularly use Internet Explorer (I don't), and so it needed to register the changes? Oh well, it works now! Yay!
And the last poll was in 2006? Wow, long time ago. Wonder why Jo hasn't updated it.
anabel May 4th, 2007, 7:01 pm Do I need to read the last three pages or is it all just yaying about today being WOMBAT day? A watched pot never boils, you know! If we all just log off and do something else instead it'll come up!
Spritey May 4th, 2007, 7:03 pm Do I need to read the last three pages or is it all just yaying about today being WOMBAT day? A watched pot never boils, you know! If we all just log off and do something else instead it'll come up!
No yaying. It's not WOMBAT day *sigh* Yet, at least. Maybe at midnight? :D

The last FAQ poll was open for 5 month, and it was the only one in 2006. Therefore it is loooooong time ago that we got one.
Do I need to read the last three pages or is it all just yaying about today being WOMBAT day? A watched pot never boils, you know! If we all just log off and do something else instead it'll come up!
There (http://www.cosforums.com/showthread.php?t=104716) is a announcement thread in the common room, you haven`t to read all those whining if you would know if there is an update.
Runes May 4th, 2007, 7:07 pm Now I'm really disappointed. I wanted the WOMBAT, or at least *something*, even a little diary entry consisting of just one sentence. Even something like "I had toast for breakfast" would be good. But no..
I don't think we'll have a FAQ poll anymore.. everything will give too much away, wouldn't it? But she could still have nonsense questions like What is Dobby's favourite colour or something like that, right?
:sigh:
Snivelly May 4th, 2007, 7:09 pm Don't be sad! It'll be okay!
Next Friday is WOMBAT day!
Yay! Next Friday is WOMBAT day! Yay Yay!
It rhymes! :p
Runes, you officially rock for creating this song! :D
