DarkDaysAhead June 7th, 2007, 5:06 am I have Animal Crossing for the Gamecube and Animal Crossing: Wild World for the DS and I have to say, these games can be pretty addictive. One of the biggest problems with these games, though, is that, once you've "beaten" them, you lose interest rather quickly. I think it'd actually be rather interesting if they made another Animal Crossing game and added more to it, maybe in the way of the Sims games. I think it'd be pretty cool if you could get a job, eat, etc. I wouldn't want it to be exactly like Sims (as that game can be rather tiring at times) but I think adding some new features would be pretty neat.
crashingstar June 7th, 2007, 7:27 am I was pretty much obsessed with Animal Crossing one summer a few years ago. I got all my roommates hooked on it and we would spend hours watching each other fish and collect bugs. The best part of the game is finding all the easter egg type things like the ghost and the free bags of money. After you've seen everything though it does get pretty boring. I heard Animal Crossing 2 is in development for Wii, but it might not be released until next year. They are working on incorporting the WiiConnect24 feature so that you can visit your friends villages and stuff.
mexicant June 7th, 2007, 8:07 am They are currently making a new one for the Wii. I'm interested in getting it when it comes out. I have the GC and DS versions, as well, and I still play them every once in a while. It's always fun to visit other people's towns and see the differences. I tend to catch better fish when I'm out visiting, too.
DarkDaysAhead June 7th, 2007, 8:16 am I don't have a Wii...didn't get caught up in that whole PS3 Vs. the Wii Vs. whatever else is out there nonsense. I might get one later, when the price comes down, but not now so the fact that they're making a new AC for the Wii is a little disappointing. :sigh:
ignisia June 7th, 2007, 8:16 am I agree about losing interest after winning. I beat the Gamecube version, and haven't played it much since. Now I'm working of Wild World.
It is good however, that the games allow for more than one player, so you can do it all over again. But there isn't much variation.
Maybe a good idea to keep interest is to have the ability to buy pets or upgrade other things like that-thing-that-wiggles-outside-your-house-that-I-can't-remember-the-name-of.
DarkDaysAhead June 7th, 2007, 8:19 am Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Having a pet would be pretty cool. :D
Gyroid? ;)
ignisia June 7th, 2007, 8:24 am Yes, Gyroid, that's it, thanks! It's so late here, I'm two seconds away from forgetting my name.
........Who am I?
DarkDaysAhead June 7th, 2007, 8:28 am I don't know, I'm not sure if I've been pronouncing it properly...
*ahem* Yeah, Animal Crossing is...whoa, wait a minute? I wonder where the Gyroid went in Wild World... :hmm:
ignisia June 7th, 2007, 8:32 am No one knows how to pronounce my username, just call me Iggy. (Hey, I know who I am! Cool! Iggy, male, 4,824 years old. Odd, you'd think my hand would be more wrinkly...)
Yeah, I noticed that the Gyroid was missing in Wild World. Maybe they got rid of it to make room for more features.
DarkDaysAhead June 7th, 2007, 8:59 am :rotfl: Alright, Iggy!
I don't know what they would have removed it for...maybe they removed it because its main purpose was saving and, now, you go to bed to save your game (which I never do, anyways).
I do rather like the new fish they added. I caught a Hammerhead Shark, a Shark, a Dorado, and like four Ocean Sunfish today. :D
ignisia June 7th, 2007, 5:10 pm Woah! I've never caught more than two ocean sunfish in one day. :scared: But then, I only just realised yesterday that I've been pressing the wrong the button while fishing, so maybe that's it. :rotfl:
(Yay! Now I really know who I am....A good night's sleep really helps. However, now I don't know where I am...:hmm:)
DarkDaysAhead June 7th, 2007, 6:57 pm  Yeah, that might have had something to do with it...
My biggest problem is the mosquitoes. Far too many times have I been thisclose to catching a fish only to get stung. It adds realism to the game and all but dang...
mexicant June 7th, 2007, 8:31 pm I wait around for mosquitoes and either catch them or let them bite me, then I fish. ;)
...Hey! Anyone want to trade friend codes? :eyebrows:
DarkDaysAhead June 7th, 2007, 8:42 pm I would but no WiFi...I live in the middle of no where. :(
ignisia June 7th, 2007, 8:51 pm I have some form of WiFi, but it's not really mine, I just mooch off whatever network happens to be floating around when I use my laptop.
I hate the mosquitoes too. I like to just move away from them...
DarkDaysAhead June 7th, 2007, 8:53 pm How does that work, actually? Would I be able to go into town and use it or is there a catch to it?
mexicant June 7th, 2007, 10:04 pm Basically, you get a personalized wifi code that is specific not only to your character in your specific game, but also to the DS you are using (as hubby and I found out when trying to switch the game between our DSs). You swap the code with someone else, and while one person hosts the "party", up to three people can come to your town and you can all play together. :D It's loads of fun. I have a blast doing it, but usually end up playing with kids - once I accidentally played with an eight-year-old. I try not to play with kids that are too young because I wouldn't want any child of mine to be playing with people in their 20's.
DarkDaysAhead June 7th, 2007, 11:38 pm Out here, I can't get wifi but if I were to go somewhere wifi is available, would I be able to get a code? It's free, isn't it?
ignisia June 7th, 2007, 11:44 pm I'm interested in this code thing too. I didn't know you could get one of those...
DarkDaysAhead June 7th, 2007, 11:46 pm I've known for a while now, I just can't get one...no wifi here. :sigh:
mexicant June 8th, 2007, 12:19 am If you have internet access, you could get wifi in your own home. You can even buy a special little adapter that fits into your usb drive and it will send a wifi signal out to your DS so you can access the wifi features of any games you might have. :) There is an example of one of those here (http://store.nintendo.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?lastAction=setCurr&jspStoreDir=NOASTORE&languageId=-1&catalogId=10001&categoryId=62209&productId=95704¤cy=USD&storeId=10001&ddkey=SetCurrencyPreference), but you don't have to buy it from Nintendo. It will most likely be the most compatible with your system, but you could go to your local electronics store and ask them to help you find one you can use. If you have a wireless router, you can just use that. There are instructions on setting up wifi in your game, but I can always try to help you if you'd like. Just let me know!
DarkDaysAhead June 8th, 2007, 12:47 am Really? My Dad and I were always under the impression that wifi isn't available here. How would I go about getting it?
Do I have to have wifi and that adapter both or just one or the other? I'd appreciate any help you could give me. :)
ignisia June 8th, 2007, 1:19 am :hmm: I'm not sure what my case is, then. All I know is that there are open wifi networks floating around (that's how I get the internet to work on my laptop. It catches the network through an air port...). However, is it possible for me to use those on a DS, or do I actually need a router/something to physically plug in?
DarkDaysAhead June 8th, 2007, 1:27 am I don't think you need one but I could be entirely wrong. Go see Copper and choose "Friend code!". See what happens.
mexicant June 8th, 2007, 1:49 am I warn you, I am so not a techie, so I will help as best I can. :)
Wifi is a wireless internet signal. My modem happens to have wifi capability, so I didn't have to purchase a wireless router for my husband's laptop. It sends out a wireless signal (though ours in encrypted and you must have our code to use our signal) that I receive with my DS. I have put in my code to bypass the security, and can access wifi freely with my DS, regardless of the game.
If you have a wireless router, you have wifi capabilities. If you have a desktop hooked up to an internet connection, you can use a small USB adapter and plug it into any empty USB port in your computer and set up a wifi signal with it. That's what the product in the link I provided before does.
Once you have a wifi signal to use, you can look at the booklet that came with your game and follow the steps there to set up your friend code. You cannot get a friend code without a signal, as each code is specific to the player in the game (you have up to four) and the DS you are using. I believe it is a 10-digit code, though my memory could be failing me at the moment.
Let me know if you need more help than that, and I will try my best. :D
EDIT
Let me give you a step-by step process that should work for you, iggy.
Put your AC:WW game into your DS and turn it on. Choose your game. On the menu, choose "other things" and it will provide a "Wi-Fi settings" option. Go ahead and connect to Nintendo WFC (it should work if you are able to connect to the internet with your laptop). Follow the instructions. Pick 1, 2, or 3 and choose "search for access point". It should come up with all of the ones in your area. Those with a little red lock next to them mean you will need the WEP access key, but if you can get online without that on your laptop, then you should be able to get a signal that doesn't require it. You can save up to three access points. You'll know you can use one if it has a blue lock that is open. If the connection tests out okay, you can start playing your games through wifi! :D
Now you'll go back to the main title of your game and choose "continue". Go to Copper and find out what your wifi code is. He'll be amazed that you don't have one yet, and will explain the system of swapping codes. He'll ask if you would like a friend code, and you need to choose "yes". It will ask if you are willing to permanently connect your game to the DS you are using with it. Then you get your code, and we swap them. To add a code into your list, look at your menu (the one where you choose tools and such) and tap the heart at the end. Hit "register" and enter the friend code and the name of the town and the person you swapped with does the same. Now you're ready to visit and just have to figure out who is going to host and who will be visiting. :)
DarkDaysAhead June 8th, 2007, 2:15 am So, even if I, myself, don't have wifi...I should be able to tap into it because I have a laptop? So, if I were to try and get a code right now, I should be able to?
Or, because I'm on dial-up, will I need one of those connectors?
mexicant June 8th, 2007, 2:26 am Do you dial-up with your laptop? If not, how do you connect?
DarkDaysAhead June 8th, 2007, 2:57 am Do you dial-up with your laptop?
Yes. :(
ignisia June 8th, 2007, 2:58 am I just tried it out, and I couldn't connect, so it didn't issue me a friend code. :(
mexicant June 8th, 2007, 3:06 am Well, DarkDays, I would suggest looking into that USB adapter. If you follow that link I posted, you can actually test your computer's compatibility with it.
Iggy, my only advice to you is to try connecting at internet hot spots (I know Starbucks offers wifi to customers, and you might be able to tap into that) until you get your own internet connection.
DarkDaysAhead June 8th, 2007, 3:15 am Well, DarkDays, I would suggest looking into that USB adapter. If you follow that link I posted, you can actually test your computer's compatibility with it.
Thanks, I still have that page up. :)
Anyone know what all those four-leaf clover patches are for? Are they considered weeds or not? I picked one a while back and kept it but the ones I've picked since then all disappeared like weeds. My brother just picked one (in my town...thief...) and was able to keep it...wonder why... :hmm:
In order to use the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB connector, you will need:
PC (The Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector is not Mac compatible)
Windows XP
A high-speed internet connection (such as DSL or cable)
and, of course, an original style Nintendo DS, Nintendo DS Lite or Wii console system.
Uh oh... :scared:
I don't know if I have a "high-speed" internet connection. I know it says "Accelerated Internet" (http://www.pennswoods.net/) but I want to be sure that connector would work with that dial up service.
mexicant June 8th, 2007, 3:22 am They are weeds, but once in a while you pick a "four-leafed clover" which raises your luck.
I direct you to this Animal Crossing site (http://www.animalcrossingcommunity.com/) for questions you may have on the game. It is a very family-friendly site, but if you don't like leetspeak and chatspeak I recommend staying away from the boards. I know I do...but it's great for all of your questions on the games.
There is a specific AC:WW section on the sidebar.
DarkDaysAhead June 8th, 2007, 3:30 am  Thanks.
ignisia June 8th, 2007, 3:36 am The four-leafed clover raises your luck? Cool. I got one once, and it's probably buried somewhere in my biue cabinet....
I hope I didn't sell it. :scared:
DarkDaysAhead June 8th, 2007, 3:57 am Did you guys know, when you're playing with someone else through a DS to DS connection, that you can't see each other's fish or bugs...and yet, you can scare off each other's bugs. Kind of stupid...
mexicant June 8th, 2007, 4:54 am I haven't heard that before. Are you sure it isn't just a glitch in one of your games? :hmm: That doesn't happen when you play wifi.
DarkDaysAhead June 8th, 2007, 5:13 am I haven't heard that before. Are you sure it isn't just a glitch in one of your games? That doesn't happen when you play wifi.
I don't know...I wasn't sure if it was even posisble or not so I tried to block my brother from running down by just in case but right around me he went and as soon as he got to the tree, the bug flew away. I told him that he'd just scared a bug away and he said, "I didn't see a bug." I told him it was right on the tree and he said, "I can't see your bugs." and I said, "Well, they can see you."
IntricateLogic June 10th, 2007, 4:24 am I have the game for the DS. It's like, sometimes it boring and stuff, but you still want to go on everyday to see what Tom Nook and the Able Sisters have, and to see what special character is there.
mexicant June 12th, 2007, 11:06 pm I have the game for the DS. It's like, sometimes it boring and stuff, but you still want to go on everyday to see what Tom Nook and the Able Sisters have, and to see what special character is there.
I know exactly what you mean. I go through kicks.
All of a sudden in April I decided I wanted the snowman set, so I went back in time and got the whole set. Now my scores from the HRA are getting really high.
DarkDaysAhead June 14th, 2007, 3:31 am All of a sudden in April I decided I wanted the snowman set, so I went back in time and got the whole set. Now my scores from the HRA are getting really high.
I think I'm up to about 55,000 points now but the HRA keeps telling me that dressers are useless when facing the wall so I went back through my entire house and checked every dresser I own and not a one is facing the wall. I'm now beginning to wonder if the HRA's replies are just generic junk...maybe the 50,000 to 59,999 reply is the "dresser" reply. :hmm:
I think my score on the Gamecube version is as high as it is because I actually went through the trouble of acquiring a whole set of furniture and setting everything up according to their Feng Shui guide. I decided, this time around, that I'm just going to buy what I want and set it up. My upstairs room is my favorite and not a single piece of furniture matches.
mexicant June 14th, 2007, 6:08 am I've got something like 170,000 points. I have the snowman and mush sets, which are worth lots of points. I've also got the entire Ranch set. And several rare items. And about 10-15 pictures of animals (they give you their picture if you are a good neighbor/friend).
DarkDaysAhead June 14th, 2007, 7:03 am Mush?
I only have five pictures -- Stitches, Alice, Alli, Butch, and Gaston's. I'd probably have more if I, you know, talked to my neighbors... :scared: :p
What did you name your town? I named mine Sarakary and named my brother's McKenna after David McKenna (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0571346/) (Scarface VG).
Side note: I just added another room onto my house (I hold onto my money until I pass 1,000,000 bells and then pay.) and now have to reorganize my entire main room. :sigh:
IntricateLogic July 4th, 2007, 11:11 pm I named my town Jersey, cuz I live in New Jersey. My old town was called Hogwarts and my character was Harry. =P I got made fun of for that...
ignisia July 5th, 2007, 1:45 am On my DS, I named my town "Moo". On my Gamecube, I named my town "Hell". Yes, you can tell I was bored.
Gracezilla06 July 5th, 2007, 2:06 am I have Animal Crossing for the Gamecube and Animal Crossing: Wild World for the DS and I have to say, these games can be pretty addictive. One of the biggest problems with these games, though, is that, once you've "beaten" them, you lose interest rather quickly. I think it'd actually be rather interesting if they made another Animal Crossing game and added more to it, maybe in the way of the Sims games. Yeah, I have it for GameCube and DS, too. I used to play it every day. Now, I haven't touched my DS in 6 months.
Flameow July 6th, 2007, 9:19 pm I have it for GCN, but I haven't played it in a couple years. I got it for DS too, I've been on that one more recently, but they do get boring very fast. It's only fun connecting with other people across Wi-Fi, I think that's the main replay value that the game has.
On the DS version, I have about 20-25 animal portraits since I would be friends with the neighbors, and send them tons of letters every day. I think I also Feng Shui'd my house completely, arranging different colored furniture in the north/south/east/west parts of the house. I have over 7,000,000 bells on that game, and all done without cheats or hacks. I played the stalk market...a LOT.
If anyone here still plays, then maybe I could add their friend code...?
DarkDaysAhead July 27th, 2007, 6:53 am My old town was called Hogwarts and my character was Harry. =P I got made fun of for that...
:rotfl:
I named my town, on the Gamecube version, Diagon. :p
mcorleone October 10th, 2007, 8:49 pm I only played this game recently on the DS (about a month). Do you guys recommend the GC version as it seems like the Wii version is still a ways away?
I wanted to name my town "Ottery St. Catchpole" but it wouldn't fit so I settled for Chitown as there's lots of people on the ACC boards with your typical Harry Potter names. I'll only wi-fi connect with people I know since you run the risk of getting seeded. For those of you who are still on dial-up or no access to hi-speed internet, just about every McDonalds has a Nintendo wi-fi hub where you can go online with your DS.
mexicant October 10th, 2007, 11:15 pm I finally got my golden net in AC:WW!!! Woot woot!!! :D
It took me ages. I hardly ever managed to see a tarantula around, but with the aid of time traveling I finally got one and nabbed it before it bit me.
Now for my fishing pole... :sigh: I am never going to catch a blue marlin or coelacanth. I still need a stringfish, too. Time travel, here I come!
Does anyone else cheat like me?
Fawkesfan1 October 11th, 2007, 12:29 am I finally got my golden net in AC:WW!!! Woot woot!!! :D

I did that once -- I got a whole bunch of weeds in my town from it, including a weird one, which didn't go away until I cleared my town of weeds .
Sarahx May 23rd, 2008, 12:06 pm I've got Animal Crossing. :D Awwhhhh, I love it. But my Wi-Fi on my nintendo ds doesn't work so I can never connect to other people unless I'm near them. It really sucks! I'm still trying to pay off my debt, so there's tons of fruit trees everywhere.
It doesn't really match the name... which is Tortuga. Hahaha!
vampiricduck August 23rd, 2008, 4:40 am Quick question here. My brothers recently started playing this after I bugged him enough about it. He's updated from Nook's Cranny to Nook 'n Go, but Nook isn't selling any extra tools. The brother says the first ones he got were the fishing rod and water can. The fishing rod is on sale again in Nook 'n' Go, along with the timer and slingshot. This didn't happen to me. Is it likely that he'll get the shovel and axe soon?
I don't remember... :D
I just know that I have my lovely town and it took a long time to make!
Sarahx September 9th, 2008, 1:02 am I think he just sells things on random, so I'm pretty sure he'll get them soon. :)

It should change daily. Maybe not all the items will change every day, but you need to consistently check for changes. :)
I haven't played my AC:WW in ages. I am very curious and excited for the one coming out for the Wii, though. I can't remember if it is out yet or not...
mexicant November 19th, 2008, 4:10 am So the Animal Crossing game for the Wii, AC: City Folk, finally came out in the US this past Sunday. I'll be setting up my town tonight and thought it would be nice for anyone else who has it to say something here, and maybe we can get an exchange of friend codes going. :D
Sarahx December 6th, 2008, 11:51 pm Mine came through the post 2 days ago. :] Just getting started really.
mexicant December 7th, 2008, 12:25 am Yay! I'm glad to know another person has gotten this game. If you've got wifi and are interested in sharing friend codes, I've got a link to a social group in my signature to share it (or you could always owl me as I'd love to visit some towns). :D
What fruit did you get? I've got oranges, and several palm trees growing.
vampiricduck December 7th, 2008, 1:50 am Christmas. Christmas mexicant, and when I get it and a few other games I've been looking for, I'll join that group. :D I haven't played Wii in ages actually... :( And I had to abandon Animal Crossing on DS shortly after buying it because RL took over... But I will go back to it, I hope. I loved what I did play of it- the Stalk Market was a wonderful pun!
mexicant December 7th, 2008, 4:48 am You can move your character over from your DS to the Wii, if you like. I'm not sure what all goes with the person, but I know it can be done. If you do that first and don't like it, you can always demolish your town and start fresh. :D
I've already managed to get the whole Harvest Furniture series.
Sarahx December 7th, 2008, 12:46 pm Awhhhhh, I got oranges too. :( I want another fruit, hehe. I can't move my info over from my DS purely because, well... naughty me downloaded the name onto an N5 card... so it's not a singular game card. Uh ohhhh, lol.
I'd be more than happy to swap friend codes, as long as you don't go out of your way to ruin my town, as has happened to some people in the past. xP
mexicant December 7th, 2008, 8:38 pm The only town destroying I've ever done is when people have held axe parties - for when you stock up on fruit and saplings and are ready to redo the landscape of your town. ;) I've had them before for my own town, and they really are very fun.
Feel free to join the community and post your code! No one can get into your town unless you've both added each other's codes, so no worries on people getting it and coming in automatically - you've got to let them.
Sarahx December 7th, 2008, 11:14 pm I joined and left my friend codes. :D
mexicant December 7th, 2008, 11:31 pm Yay! I'm so excited at the prospect of playing with a real, live person! I've done that in AC:WW, but not so far in CF.
I'll add you to mine later today. (It's still afternoon for me...)
Sarahx December 7th, 2008, 11:40 pm Your friend code is too long... :S
mexicant December 7th, 2008, 11:51 pm Hm. As far as I knew, all Wii friend codes were 16 digits long...I'll go look it up.
ETA:
I've looked it up, and Wii friend codes are indeed 16 digits. It's DS friend codes that are 12.
Sarahx December 8th, 2008, 12:48 am My Mario Kart code is 12 digits long, as is my Wii Code and my AC code. O_o
mexicant December 8th, 2008, 12:54 am Hm.
In the first post in the social group I've linked to a video that shows you where to find your Wii friend code - is that where you found yours?
Sarahx December 9th, 2008, 5:51 pm Yes my Wii code is 8703 7348 6435 2318.
But my AC and Mariokart codes are only 12 digits long. I have swapped friend codes with people online who play Mariokart and theirs are all 12 digits. I'm so confused.
mexicant December 9th, 2008, 6:56 pm Oh, not a problem! I can explain.
There is a MarioKart for the DS, and there is also one for the Wii. So when people talk about them and don't differentiate, it does get confusing.
There is Animal Crossing: Wild World for the DS, and Animal Crossing: City Folk for the Wii.
To play any of those you do need to exchange friend codes or be matched with random people (though Animal Crossing is strictly friends-code only).
Does that help?
Sarahx December 9th, 2008, 7:05 pm Yes I know. I have Mariokart for both the Wii and the DS. My DS doesn't connect to the internet so I play online on the Wii. My Mariokart Wii code is only 12 digits long, as is everybodies who have swapped with me.
mexicant December 9th, 2008, 7:17 pm That...is really odd. Huh.
I was playing Animal Crossing again last night - I managed to get myself a second story! Woo!
Sarahx December 9th, 2008, 7:25 pm Where did you get your AC friend code from?
mexicant December 9th, 2008, 7:32 pm Well, the Wii just has the one friend code, but the DS game allies itself with a particular DS and creates a code - learned that when my husband tried to change it to his.
Sarahx December 9th, 2008, 7:38 pm Ahhhh well you see, whilst playing on AC, if you click on the heart icon, and then click on the key icon at the top, it gives you your AC friend code.
I can't add you unless you give me that.
mexicant December 9th, 2008, 8:08 pm Oh, I'll give that a try then. :)

Fawkesfan1 June 6th, 2013, 1:17 pm With Animal Crossing: New Leaf coming out soon on the 3ds, I thought it might be good to bump this thread up for discussion of the new game.
