Did Harry get an Order of Merlin?

I was just wondering, do you think that Harry got an Order of Merlin for killing Voldemort? Dumbledore had an Order of Merlin, First Class (or perhaps more than one?) but we cannot be sure whether he got this for his defeat of Grindelwald, or for the large number of other great achievments.

I personally reckon Harry was given an Order of Merlin First Class, but I think he would have refused it, or else insisted that Ron, Hermione, Neville, and all those that died fighting Voldemort (including Regulus) were given them too. It seems unlikely he'd set much store by a certificate, or title, or whatever you want to call it, and I doubt he'd go to the trouble of getting the Ministry to issue loads of them.

Thoughts?

Hunch, he might have got it but that doesn't mean he values it. For example, he probably remembers Sirius' devalutation of his family's order for giving lots of money to the ministry.

All the Best,

I'm sure he got a few honours, it's just not that important to the series as a whole. :)

I think he would have got one and probably he would have insisted that the others got them. The others probably would not have got first class though imo.

I'm sure if Harry got one, Ron and Hermione would've too. I can imagine Harry insisting that Snape should get one for risking his life by being a spy. Harry most likely got first class for defeating the Darkest Wizard.

I would think Harry got offered various awards, but he may not have taken them. He doesn't seem the type to want the accolades and awards; he'd probably prefer the quiet life. Plus, since the Order of Merlin has such a long history of being corrupted, he might not want to be associated with that. Of course, conversely, he might want to help Kingsley start writing the new chapter of that award by having it awarded based purely on merit.

I dont think him receiving any awards really matters to the overall story.

Harry would definitely get 1st Class but likewise, refused, saying that he didn't deserve it or something like that

If anyone deserves and Order of Merlin it's Harry. Ron and Hermione should both get one too. I mean even when Gridelwald was powerful it wasn't as frightening (in England at least) as when Voldermort was powerful. If Dumbledore got one Harry will definatly get one.

I think he got a Order of Merlin, First Class after vanquising Voldemort the first time.

TBH, I'm not sure Harry would have been given an Order of Merlin in the immediate aftermath of Riddle's defeat. Maybe in time, after so much service to the New Ministry and in the Auror office. The Ministry would surely still have issues that needed to be resolved and also I think there would still be remains of those who Harry had caused quite a lot of problems for. The Ministry may also still have credibility issues so would therefore be reluctant to hand out Order of Merlins to anyone, let alone to the person who tried his hardest to discredit the Ministry over the past few years.

I'm sure Harry would have been given top honors for getting rid of Voldemort. I imagine he'd have gotten an Order of Merlin First Class, and perhaps other awards.

I am sure he got some kind of award. He surely deserved an Order of Merlin First Class and whatever other high awards there are. I mean, he got rid of the greatest Dark Lord of his time and restored the wizarding world back to order. He deserves something for that!

That's a very good question. I would like him to get an Order of Merlin first class. And i think he would have accepted it, not careing much, but still.

Hahaha!

I would hope Harry, Ron, and Hermione would all receive an award such as the Order of Merlin. And I think with Kingsley at the Ministry's head they most certainly would have. But, I think he would've requested that the others who fought to defeat The Dark Lord would be remembered with the same honors!

Also, I think Hogwarts would probably receieve something of an award for educating the witches and wizards who did the fighting, since Hogwarts always seemed to get such a load of bollocks from the Ministry, for without their educations how could they have possibly won the war?

Also...I think Tom Riddle's award for services to the school should be taken down and chucked, considering!

I would have to agree with the most of the replies. I definitely think that Harry would've gotten some sort of award to commemorate the fact that he brought about the true downfall of one of the darkest dark wizards to walk the earth so far. But as we don't know why exactly Dumbledore was awarded his Order of Merlin, First Class, we can't be sure if defeating a dark wizard is all it takes to get that. I can't imagine that there are too many things that rival the greatness of defeating a dark wizard and restoring peace, but you never know.

Overall, I do think that Harry was given an Order of Merlin, First Class. I think that Ron, Hermione, and everyone else would've been given some sort of award, though I don't know for sure what.

In POA Fudge remarked that he would have Snape awarded an Order of Merlin for seemingly capturing Sirius Black. Once Harry helped Sirius escape, there was no award for Snape.

I'm sure that Harry got a 1st class, if Snape was going to get a 3rd or 2nd for capturing Sirius. I would assume that Ron and Hermione would get at least 2nd class, as would Neville, Luna and Ginny. Anyone who fought in the battle deserves at least a 3rd class, as well, and they probably did get one, considering the regime change and general purification of the Ministry. With this in mind, it makes Ron's "defining moment"--getting his own Chocolate Frog Card--even more silly.

I think that he would have been offered one, however due to his modesty would either refuse it or insist that others got them aswell, however I dont think he would really be bothered if he didnt get one as he will have more important things on his mind such as having a relationship with Ginny.

I think he would have been offered some sort of award, however refused. He doesn't seem too fussed about awards and money etc, but I think if he had have received one, he would have given it to the Weasley's or someone. But I think Ron and Hermione should have got an Order of Merlin, too.

And all the people that fought Voldemort, alive and dead, should receive some sort of special award. That would make it fair for everyone.

Snape should receive something immense. He was the bravest man I ever knew.

Well, I believe at least he got one, it's possible that ron and hermione each got one too. I remember reading in PoA, that wormtail got one 'posthumously' awarded (Merlin, first class) for being "killed" by Sirius during the mass murder.

So if that rule holds true there'd be a lot of Merlins, not necessarily of the first class variety, but more than just Harry I'd think.

Of all the great achievements on Dumbledore's chocolate frog card, defeating Grindelwald was probobly the best so I think it is safe to assume that even if he didn't get his order of Merlin for it getting rid of a powerful dark wizard merits one.

Fudge wanted to give Snape an Order of Merlin 2nd Class, so by that measure Harry should definitely get 1st Class. Hermione probably deserves at least 2nd Class for helping to get three Horcruxes and saving The Chosen One's backside at Godric's Hollow. Ron should get at least 3rd Class for his help getting three Horcruxes too.

I think the Trio and Neville should definitely have received some high rewards but I'm not sure what you have to do to receive the Order of Merlin. I'm pretty sure killing Voldemort and saving the wizarding world should count for something so I'm going to say: Yes, he received it. Just one more thing JK probably should have mentioned in the epilogue. :grumble:

Harry most probably got an Order of Melin First Class. But I don't think it would mean much to him, he wouldn't really care about it and after all he's been through, I doubt an Order of Merlin will compensate. I really want Ron and Hermione to ge one too. I think it would make Ron's day :D

That made me laugh so hard.

That's the problem with the ending. I think a nice awards ceremony and blurbs about what they want to do after Hogwarts would have rounded things off nicely.

I think that would have been a bit Hollywood for my liking, if Jo were to realise information outwith the story line it would be better coming after the books have been published.

Well in the third book when Snape (we miss you) came back saying that he captured Sirius, Fudge said he'll get Order of Merlin, Second Class, or First Class if he can wrangle it. And if Harry did something as heroic as defeating one of the most feared Dark Lords of all time who terrorized many for years with so many deaths in his name, i would think he would get First Class.

I reckon Harry definitely got an Order of Merlin First Class, Im gonna speculate that Ron, Hermione and Neville also got them. Give Firsts to Ron and Hermione, damn they deserve them as much as Harry and a 2nd for Neville for organising rebellion in Hogwarts and destroying a Horcrux.

And if anyone deserves one posthumously its Snape.

Im sure Harry would have accepted it, he would be embarrased in true Harry style but accepting nonetheless because of what it meant to the wizarding world to reward him. Ron, Hermione and Nevillle probably were a little more excited but JK did say that Ron getting his own Chocolate Frog card was his proudest moments. So Ron :D

Yes. Harry, Ron, and Hermy got all got an Order of Merlin First Class, Snape and Neville Second Class*

*= Neville has propably discovered a lot in Herbology that contributed to wizardkind, so he propably got upgraded to First Class.

I would like to think that with Kingsley in charge, the awards were given to everyone who deserved them. The trio would definitely get Order of Merlins, and I think Neville and Molly Weasley would, too.

Maybe they'll come up with an Order of Hogwarts award. They could give them to other magical creatures as well, not just wizards. I think Harry would like that.

Order of Merlin First Class isn't even good enough for what Harry did; they should make an Order of Potter award. Thats how big.

If he didn't get an Order of Merlin, they made one higher.

Harry essentially vanquished a wizard who had been eluding the capture of some of the greatest auror's for almost 30 years. If you don't agree, than think of who some of the auror's of recent years were. He escaped the capture of Mad-Eye Moody, Nymphadora Tonks and Kingsley Shacklebolt just to name a few.

I think that Harry, Ron, Hermione & Neville would have all got them, but I'm not sure if it would mean too much to Harry as muchas it ight for the others. For Ron it would show how much he has stepped out of his brothers shadows, for Hermione it would be like when she got to become a prefect something that her parents could relate to and for Nevile IK think he would have given the award to his parents!

I say that he did get it because come on he defeated one of the most powerful wizards off all time. And it isn't the same because Sirius loathed most of his family and probably considered giving money to the Ministry about just as good as bribery.

The good thing would have been tht Harry was given a 1st Class OoM, and that he refused it till the MInistry released all muggle-borns from Azkaban, imprisoned Umbridge and all *** Death Eaters that survived the battle, recognized werewolves rights and apologized for all their misdoings (the Ministry's, I mean). With Kingsley in charge it would be just a matter of a few weeks. And still I think Harry wouldn't accept unless at least the Trio, Neville, Luna, Lupin, Tonks, MAd-Eye, Fred and Dobby (these postumely) got one, too.
