snapeismyhero August 14th, 2007, 5:39 pm In this day and age of technology and communication, many people have started a trend of "V-Logs," or video blogs. The most common site this occurs on is Google's Youtube.
How do you feel about this new trend? Do you like it? Are you a vlogger? How do you think this changes communication?
Exchange tips on how to create well-made vlogs and videos.
Sugino3 August 14th, 2007, 9:26 pm go youtube. dont post pivot animations unless youre REALLY good.
BelleSnowyOwl August 14th, 2007, 11:28 pm I'm a huge fan of youtube. I don't post videos myself, but there's such an abundance of every kind of video imaginable that you never get bored. Plus it’s a great place to watch interviews, movie trailers, etc.
SeverusSnapeHBP August 14th, 2007, 11:30 pm I don't do vlogs. But I do spend a lot of time commenting on vids there.
Sugino3 August 15th, 2007, 12:54 am If someone is rude to you, be rude to them.
Mike Shinoda said this in a song:
The World is cold, the bold men take action.
So take action against the cold (mean) people.
firebolt57 August 15th, 2007, 1:05 am I have video blogs. I can't make fan made videos though. I don't have the equipment. I have a but load of favorites though...
Alastor August 15th, 2007, 4:37 am This thread has been discussed between staff and while a discussion about vlogging is quite OK, we prefer not to see links to YouTube here. :)
snapeismyhero August 15th, 2007, 4:45 am I see your point Alastor. Removed the "post your links here" statement. My bad I'm a newbie here.
unconvinced August 15th, 2007, 9:31 am The main problem with youtube these days seems to be that there are so many videos there that it is getting harder and harder to find those gems that youtube is famous for.
IMissPadfoot August 15th, 2007, 10:52 am I have never used vlogging myself, but I love looking around on YouTube for things! It's a great way of wasting time when you're bored!

That seems to be the main use of the internet for most people.
Wizard_Pupil August 15th, 2007, 4:58 pm I am absolutely adicted to You Tube.:love::love:
I have been a fan of music videos all my life. And You Tube gives more than normal video clips, fans do sucha amazing videos out there, and we all can see it.
In You Tube I am a Director, I edited a few videos, but usually Iīm looking and watching videos, and commmenting videos. Thatīs so great, you can see videos and what people thinks about that videos.
I have found anything I want, thanxs to You Tube.
No rules for You Tube, You Tube should be free.
turnstyles August 15th, 2007, 5:48 pm I watch music videos and post comments, mostly negative. I even criticize videos I like, just because I can always find something I don't like about the video. Nothing's perfect, but I still get flamed even if my comments are very well thought out and intelligent. I have to admit though, watching preteens over react is very amusing.

I totally agree with you. However it gives you a sense of accomplishment when you stumble upon a great video (because it is getting harder to do!)

Ah, so you are one of the 'haters' that the young tubers are always complaining about . Some people can be very defensive when it comes to people giving them advice. I agree that criticism is needed for improvement, but when I do it I make sure it's constructive criticism.
xxAmyxx August 15th, 2007, 7:04 pm I'm a huge fan of youtube. I don't post videos myself, but there's such an abundance of every kind of video imaginable that you never get bored. Plus its a great place to watch interviews, movie trailers, etc.
Me too. I even listen to music on it while i'm on the internet.
LoonyMagic August 15th, 2007, 7:05 pm I only really use YouTube for watching trailers, interviews and music videos. Other than that, I never put up any videos or anything like that. Maybe I'll start...:D
Vampire_Girl August 16th, 2007, 12:20 am The only things about it that annoy me are people who tag their videos things like Harry Potter (for example) when it has nothing to do with it. It just makes me think 'If I didn't want to watch your thing before, what makes you think mislabeling it will make me want to watch it any more?'
The only other thing that mildly annoys me is that it seems that when it comes to watching music videos, people love to argue about bands (whether they've sold out or not, are you a fan if you think the lead singer is cute, etc.) and most of them are so immature....
Other than that, I'm a youtube addict! It's one of the main sites I visit on a regular basis.
SydneyCartonFan August 16th, 2007, 12:23 am My name is SydneyCartonFan, and I am a YouTube junkie.

I also hate the same thing you hate . It makes me mad that they are that desperate to get video views. Some people take it way to far and stick hundreds of words in the video's description just so people might stumble onto their video.
My name is SydneyCartonFan, and I am a YouTube junkie.
LOL. Ok.

Yeah, you should start! :) its really fun once you start getting into it.
aliauthor September 7th, 2007, 3:51 am My name is SydneyCartonFan, and I am a YouTube junkie.
no, wait! you forgot something! I'll give an example:
My name is aliauthor
(fellow board members: Hi, aliauthor)
and I am a recovering youtube junkie. Today I only watched 3 videos.
(polite smatterings of applause)
...um...plus 54.
hehe. Anyway, I love watching muci videos, etc. on youtube, as well as everyones favorite potter puppet pals and....muffins! :tu:
Wab September 7th, 2007, 3:56 am I don't see the point. If I want to watch professionally made video (trailers etc) I go to the source site. The amateur stuff is just that.
XxIslandgirlxX September 7th, 2007, 5:36 am I like to watch the various videos on youtube but I would never want to make a vlog. I wouldn't have enough to say and some of the comments I've seen on other people's videos have been a little harsh!
ginnypotter19 September 7th, 2007, 5:51 am I never make my video's, though I am trying. . . But I LOVE it! I practically live on it now, cause so many of them put movie clips together and put their own story together, like Draco and Hermione's Tonight, I love that story! And the Hermione/Tom Riddle/Harry Maladies in Time is great! I love it so much there and it's great for interviews, school projects when you need a video clip and need to know something and need examples, and it has most deffinantly come in handy for movie trailers.
JumperDreams October 9th, 2007, 7:58 pm It's great to read comments on stuff like horseback riding where if you even try to critique the video you are immediatlyswarmed by overreactiing little kids who are like 'ZOMGGGG u r so ttyl rong bout this guy hes a gr8 rider and u dont no wat ur talkin bout!!!!!!!' Yeah YouTube commonts of all kinds make me laugh.

I know! It's fun to read comments on Daxflame's videos because more than half the people don't think he's acting! It's hilarious!
I had my first attempt at vlogging today. I couldn't think of anything to say. I was just like...
"I can't think of anything to say. Kay, Ash, send me some ideas. PLEASE!"
Vlogging makes me feel really emo for some reason...
EXPELIAMUS October 10th, 2007, 4:36 am I was a tube-a-holic, went into you-hab, and now I try to spend the least amount of time on it as possible. I got sick of staying up an extra hour or two at night. Sometimes I felt rotten afterwards, completely tubed out. Ukh. What bugs me the most is that some time after I add a video to my favorites, it automatically gets taken off just days or weeks later, and not because the user removed them or the user doesn't exist anymore. The message is: "This video has been removed due to terms of use violation." I still don't know what that means...
glamgurl36 October 11th, 2007, 4:02 pm i think its cool, its another form of expression
YellowRose October 12th, 2007, 9:34 am YouTube has become my main online pastime. Some of the videos are very well thought out and much more entertaining than the million reality or talent shows on TV. Though I don't vblog I follow others and it was great to watch the London YouTube gathering for example or all those 'complaints choirs' :)
Corvus October 12th, 2007, 7:13 pm I really just use Youtube to watch music videos. Not really interested in doing vlogg's myself or watch vlogging made by others.
jessicarowling November 10th, 2007, 12:37 pm i LOVE youtube! Its a way for people to be able to show their talents without having to have agents and stuff just to be on TV. Its such a great site.
However, I HATE those people who put horrible and insensitive comments. **** really rude and anoying.
WitchHunter November 13th, 2007, 6:20 am YouTube is past its prime. Since Google bought it, there has been a massive crackdown on copyrighted material. While this in itself is not necessarily a bad thing, they aren't doing a very good job of checking if a video violates copyright law before they remove it, so a number of videos that would be considered fair use have been removed and their uploaders banned.
The message is: "This video has been removed due to terms of use violation." I still don't know what that means...
Generally, it means that another user reported that the video violated the rules, and that the video was removed as a result. As with copyright, they don't do a very good job of checking if the video breaks any rules before removing it.
cybobbie November 14th, 2007, 12:10 am I visit YouTube a lot and always have a lot of fun there!! I never upload movies and I also don't do vblog, or even the regular blog. I think that forums are good enough for me to debate, meet people and share my POVs, so I'm really not into it.
SevPrince June 30th, 2008, 4:43 am Dose anyone have problem with youtube lately? Sometimes the videos don't work. It will say something to the fact of video not working on a black screen. It also started to download slowly then usually with the red line.
Expel_The_Armos July 9th, 2008, 4:54 pm I have one magic trick revealing video on there, but nothing more. I love commenting on vids tho
weasley July 12th, 2008, 9:26 pm Funfact: add &fmt=18 to the end of the url to make it high quality (you can use it on videos that don't have "watch it in higher quality". But it's also higher quality than actually clicking "High quality" haha) eg
www.youtube.com/abc123
becomes
www.youtube.com/abc123&fmt=18
But it depends on how high the quality the video is when it was uploaded in the first place. But sometimes it can really improve, some program I was watching went from blurry and mono sound to really defined and stereo sound.
I just watch videos, really. I first discovered YouTube around October 2005 but got my account in December. My account says I've recently watched over 10,000 videos now o.O
Dose anyone have problem with youtube lately? Sometimes the videos don't work. It will say something to the fact of video not working on a black screen. It also started to download slowly then usually with the red line.
I get that sometimes, but it says "this video is not avaliable". I have to refresh the page.
yeshm813 July 13th, 2008, 12:54 pm Has anybody seen these kids on youtube do the remake of harry potter and the prisnor of askabam ,where there in the shreacking shack. i forgot whats its called but its funny
LilyLunaPotter December 26th, 2008, 5:15 am I love YouTube! I always have it up, listening to music! I mostly use it to look up lyrics, listen to songs, watch shows that arent on anymore, and to talk!
Oh and I love watching Fred! He is so funny!!
Tibbetts December 26th, 2008, 5:26 am I use YouTube to watch music videos, comedy bits, and especially Military Tattoo's(ie, bagpipes and drums). :D
-Tibbetts
PureBloodGirl February 6th, 2009, 11:25 pm I use youtube for when I'm bored. I'll watch comedy videos and music videos. I also upload videos too, but I wouldn't call it a video blog. Me and my friends just mess around.
Fred and littleradge are my favorite youtubers.
RainbowGurl February 7th, 2009, 1:25 am I like Youtube and I am often on there commenting and subscribing. The vlogging community is very friendly and talkative when I have posted comments to their videos, it is very nice to get to know the person through their videos. I have subscribed to a few vloggers on YouTube.
deathplce4myhed June 30th, 2009, 7:08 am Dose anyone have problem with youtube lately? Sometimes the videos don't work. It will say something to the fact of video not working on a black screen. It also started to download slowly then usually with the red line.
Yea, even when my laptop seems to be going fine, it still loads slow.
And my brother who has a great computer and also a better internet connection the videos seemed to take kind of longer then normal.
Also what bothers me is now for some reason a video will be up but they took the sound out because it violated something or another! Just take the video down!:grumble::grumble:
I love youtube though, I never put videos up..but I do watch a lot on it:D:D
I never new google owned it!
Puppet_Master June 30th, 2009, 4:01 pm Well...I have a You Tube account (Gosh I absolutely love You Tube)
But I see I have bad luck, I have no friends, some people invites me from time to time, some other "Subscribe" humm... but then dissapear and never ever post a comment, and for worst, everything I get as reply are insults and harsh comments.
In my videos I receive zero comments, and if I get a comment finally... is an attack, a trolling or something completely stupid.
I just received a few moments ago an obsenity in my profile...
And I really wonder why in my case everything is basically negative.
If I have to make a balance of good and bad, the 90% is BAD.
YouTube is past its prime. Since Google bought it, there has been a massive crackdown on copyrighted material. While this in itself is not necessarily a bad thing, they aren't doing a very good job of checking if a video violates copyright law before they remove it, so a number of videos that would be considered fair use have been removed and their uploaders banned.
This is another issue that are really really ruining You Tube, and making me to leave You Tube once and for all.
I respect copyright but there are lots of people proclaiming copyrights they actually donīt have, and they are deleting videos and banning accounts with no good reasons...
They delete videos and accounts, but there is nothing to do with all the radical groups that are working on You Tube, abuses and trolls.
I am very dissapointed with You Tube.... At least to be a member.
I am one of those who is in You Tube to have fun, to be nice, but thatīs is impossible, I love to comment possitive messages all the time, yes, everywhere I do that, if I like something I say it, but as I said, I am completely scared of the replies.
But I guess I am OK if I only watch videos.
Sectemsemptra June 30th, 2009, 8:00 pm What exactly do you do on youtube? mabey try doing different things if you get negative responses.
If someone is rude to you, be rude to them.
Mike Shinoda said this in a song:

But that's sinking to thier level...it makes you the smaller person, people enjoy getting into fights just becuase they feel like it and feel ince it's on the internet there isn't much of a consequence. I'd just ignore them.
Emmarific July 1st, 2009, 3:35 pm I used to be more active on YouTube than I am now - despite stopping to have more time to, like, spend time not on the computer, I also began to get frustrated with the number of people who were simply using YouTube for financial gain - and not caring much about anything else.
A small selection of these folks actually make good videos still, but a few of my old "Youtube Friends" now are just in it for the big bucks. :(
My suggestion? Even if you're in it for the money, be friendly! Interact with your viewers and try to make it more about vlogging - I'm much more likely to fork over spare change for a CD of a lesser-known, modest YouTuber than someone who's constantly like "BUY THIS! BUY! CD! YOU! NOW!"
Shingie August 14th, 2009, 9:11 pm My suggestion? Even if you're in it for the money, be friendly! Oh, that is annoying.
A lot of celebrities have now official youtube accounts as they have myspaces, and I suspect that it's mostly for commercial & promotion purposes. I bet a lot of the accounts are managed by somebody else though, a lot of their videos look professionally edited and I don't think celebrities have the time to make their own videos, upload them, learn how to edit them, etc. XD
I mostly use youtube for music and watching movies. :) Or go on failblog's youtube channel.
Hysteria August 15th, 2009, 6:52 am I don't video-blog (my written blogs are boring enough ) but I do love YouTube. You get to see things you otherwise never would. I usually look up interviews or music videos of my favourite bands, since a large marjority are definently not mainstream the internet is the only place I'd ever see them.

I don't post videos of myself either. I still need at least a digital camera for the recording and I have to learn how to use Windows movie maker lol. x) I simply don't want to invest the effort. Plus I have a poor sense of humor. Still, youtube is still a great site--you can find practically anything.
Political/Religious/Moral/Society debates, bands and their music, movies and movie trailers, celebrity interviews, AMVs, Parodies, budding musicians, and even educational videos! XD
I usually like watching movies on youtube, despite the copyrights a lot of movies are still on Youtube. Music is a biggie too.
xFluerDelacourx August 19th, 2009, 11:36 pm I don't make videos (they'd probaly all suck and be really boring) but I do like to listen to music on Youtube. In fact, its the only place I do so anymore. I typically try to find non-videos of the song though. Cause most music videos aren't that interesting or they just freak me out (I don't even watch TV in real life). Mostly thats the only interest I have in youtube.
Like everything else on the internet Youtube can be used for good and then it can be used for bad.
