My Pet is Dreaming

I'm sure everyone with a pet at home has seen something like this before. My cat sleeps with me almost every night, and it's very entertaining when I notice he's dreaming. His little legs and tail twitching.. it's just funny.

Ever wonder what they're dreaming about?

I for one think they definitely have nightmares though.. maybe 2-3 times a month or so, I end up waking my cat because he's twitching almost violently. It worries me a bit, but then he just licks my hand, rolls over, and lulls back off to sleep. :p

Anyone else with a similar story?

My dog does that occasionaly. He's almost impossible to wear out, but when he does sometimes take a nap, every so often, he'll just start kicking his feet, and his nose wiggles a bunch. I think he's dreaming about running, but who knows??

Also, he watches the T.V., like he can actually tell when there's another dog on it. Anyone else experience that?

My cat Merlin always looks like he's smiling when he sleeps. I think he dreams about hunting since that makes him happy anyways.

My dogs does that too. They'll growl and bark in their sleep. It's really cute especially since they're tiny little dogs and sound so much more vicious when they're asleep.

My dog dreams all the time, tis really annoying cos he sleeps in my bed starts twitching about and yelping, wakes me up, and when I wake up I discover hes stolen all the covers and cos hes so fat I cant move him so I freeze my butt off whilst hes sound asleep dreaming about chasing rabbits and bones!!

Oh yeah, one of my cats does that as well, it's really freaky. At first I thought she was ill or something...

All of our pets seem to have rather vivid dreams, the cats frequently twitch and even meow in their sleep but our dog has to be the worst when it comes to dreaming. He whimpers really loudly and actually sounds like he's crying. It's terrifying, when we first got him and he started doing that, he woke us all up and my dad was ready to take him to an emergency vet! It's funny though, when you wake him up, he just starts wagging his tail and is perfectly happy.

Both of our dogs bark and twitch in their sleep, and Barney has been known to growl as well. It's so cute how it comes out like "murf, murf" instead of "bark, bark"! :D
Strangely, the only time Sandy has ever howled was once, in her sleep. She scared the heck out of herself and me, and hasn't done it since!

My dogs never make any noise when they're dreaming... but they always seem to be running, with their legs twitching slightly and their nose wiggling. :D

I don't think I have ever seen it in my cats but I used to have a dog when I was younger and I remembered that she used to twitch a bit when she slept and we assumed that she was dreaming. I wonder what they dream about. I guess we'll never know.

My cat will occasionally make small growling noises when he's sleeping and will twitch.

Also, 8m, my cat watches TV as well. One time he ran at the TV trying to catch a bird on there and slammed into the screen. It was hilarious. :rotfl:

My dog makes really strange sounds in his sleep, it's really cute because he's such a big dog and he's making high pitched sounds like he's got hiccups! Sometimes his cheeks start flapping too which is kind of scary! He's so funny when he's asleep. Bless him!

WOW, that is sooooooooo cute! I wish i had a dog, but my mom wont let me. Its not like she or my dad are allergic, and I've already promised that i would take care of it, and anything it does is my responsibility. But I still don't get a dog :upset:

I've seen my cats dream every now and then... they make meowing sounds and my big cat, his feet twitch when he dreams.

I tend to think they're dreaming about hunting birds and that kind of thing, I could be wrong though . But it does make sense though.

My dog, Sheru, sleeps with me every night and I noticed his paws always twitched, as though he was running and his nose would twitch too and he'd "smile" in a way that you could see his teeth hehe and once he had a bad dream, he was breathing really fast and whimpering in his sleep.

My dog was named Barker by the breeder because as a puppy he barked in his sleep :D He still does sometimes, it's absolutely adorable.

I think that dogs dream mostly about scents and noises, as opposed to human dreams where the focus is primarily on sight.

It's fun to watch my dog sleep (the smaller one). She'll start kicking her legs like she's running. I like to think maybe she's dreaming about running around outside. She'll give out little barks in her sleep. Maybe she's dreaming about chasing a bigger dog. She does have a Napoleon complex.

I'm not sure if my dogs watch TV, but when I'm watching a sporting event it does look like the little dog is looking at the TV. My brother and his college roommate used to have a dog that would watch sporting events. His head would follow the ball on the TV and he'd get upset if you turned the channel (I'm serious!).

My dog barks quietly and moves his legs like he's running when he's asleep sometimes. It's very cute :)

I've seen it plenty. It's a beagle thing as best I can tell; they move and bark in their sleep quite often.

My cat is dreaming right now. He's just beside me, moving legs and half meowing. He's 18 so he might be dreaming of his younger days, who knows...

If I had a pet, he or she would obviously dream about waking up first thing in the morning to me giving them a hug! -nodnod-

all i know is when mr. bunny aka pellet butt sleeps, she is on her side. when i go to pet her, she will lay there in a trance, until i find the spot. then she jumps awake, and begins licking my hand. she's dreaming of being let out of the cage.

One of the things I have noticed about my new puppy, Mara, is how much she dreams. My family has always had dogs, and I've never seen one dream so much! She will fall asleep in my arms or on my lap, and start twitching and making little barking noises, and I'll hear her sigh. She's so little! I don't know if she's dreaming because she misses her litter, or because she's happy, or if it's because she's just a very smart little girl!

Aw! We have another guest-dog, Murphy. He's an 8 month old cocker spaniel, and so cute. He zonked out on my lap yesterday, on his back, arms and legs completely limp, twitching and snoring! Just adorable.

Awww this thread is so precious! I'm glad to know other dogs twitch & bark in their sleep. I can see my dog's eyeballs moving back & forth when her eyes are closed, so this means she's in REM sleep, right? I wonder what dogs dream about too. The cutest (also slightly creepy) thing my dog did while she was sleeping was wag her tail rapidly fast. Does anybody else's pet do this?
