Julie Walters as Molly Weasley

All I'm saying is that even though Walters does a good job as Molly, after the events of DH, she should be replaced by Sigourney Weaver.

please forgive me for saying this, but I dont think that Sigourney Weaver would make a good Mrs. Weasly. for one she looks nothing like Mrs. Weasly and I just dont think she is a very good actress. I think that Julie Walters does an excellent job an will be very good in DH.

I absolutely agree! Julie Walters is a fantastic actress and I have no problem seeing her getting into feisty-mode for the DH movie! She'll be brilliant!

Julie Walters, next to Alan Rickman, is one of my favorite HP actors! I positively adore her portrayal, including her "mollycoddling" and motherly attitude. She's perfect for the character: looks wise, with her mannerisms, and with her voice. The casting department hit a homerun with Walters, and I can't wait for her to scream at Bellatrix in DH! Oh, the irony!

Julie is Molly Weasley. There may be someone out there who can do it better but Sigourney certainly wouldn't be able to create the same appealing character i'd want to watch. She hasn't got a mumzy look about her- and lets face it, Julie proves herself to be pretty fiesty in the Howler scene. I think she'll do a brilliant job of killing Helena.

Julie Walters can definitely do feisty, she's a great Mrs Weasley.

She's perfect for the role- the motherly figure who is caring and kind, but she's still very feisty and protective. Can't wait to see that scene in the final battle!

Julie Walters is perfect as Molly...exactly as I pictured her. I hope, I hope, I hope they put in the fight scene with her and Bella complete with the wording in the book. Let everyone know you don't screw with mothers!

I've recently seen Julie Walters and she has lost alot of weight so I think she'll be needing a bit of padding to be added to her frame for the movies, but she is great as Molly!

I think she's very good and I can see her doing the fight with Bella... That had better be a really good scene :grumble:

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I don't like Julie Walters as Molly. I think she's a bit too tough looking for Molly and, when she yells at the boys, she's kinda shrill. I don't know many British actresses, but I'd prefer someone softer, and warmer for Molly. I'd rather see her cajoling Arthur, instead of treating him like another of her kids.

Molly Weasley is a fiesty mother who yells at her kids out of love - she fears for their lives - remember the clock on the wall with mortal danger as one of the signs on it?

Remember it is frightening and cruel times with Voldemort and the Deatheaters et al on the rampage - killing anybody and everybody who even remotely defies them.

Molly had seven children and a husband to worry about and you say she's not soft or warm enough? She fighting for their survival and then look forward to her scene where she takes on Bella....

I think Julie Walters is perfect for the role. She is almost exactly how I pictured Mrs. Weasley: the kind, pleasant, plump, mother of seven childrewn. Though she can be not-so-pleasant at times as well. :D

Without a doubt, Julie Walters is the perfect Molly Weasley, to the point where I picture her when I read the books. She captures Molly's warmth, her (over)protectiveness, and her, for lack of a better word right now, fiestiness very well indeed.

But Molly is frequently shrill in the books. :) And personally I think she does often treat Arthur like he's one of the kids. She yells at him often enough! :whistle:

You know what? Keep Julie Waters as Mrs. Weasley. Instead when it comes to The Line™ just splice in the Aliens footage. Seriously it make DH all the more watchable.

Yes, Julie Walters is a perfect Mrs Weasley! She's adorable, lovable and hopefully the perfect person to pull off that famous you-know-what-line. However, I fear her acting being overpowered by Helena's as Bellatrix though. But she could actually pull it off-according to IMDB the woman does have at least one child of her own.

So, come on Julie/Molly! Show Helena/Bellatrix what for in Book Seven! If the industry won't let you deliver THAT line in DH, I swear, I'll hex the script writer...

Don't worry about Julie not being able to deliver that famous line as I've seen her in Educating Rita film and The Dinner Ladies TV series and believe me she'll be great. By the way they pad her out for each film and apparently stuff her bra with bird seed and at first she was worried the owls used in the films might get wind of it and attack her bosoms but it hasn't happened yet so she's OK with it now. Perfect for the role - feisty in real life and feisty in the films that's our Julie.

Not wanting to sound prudent but Sigourney Weaver is American isn't she? I thought that JKR stated that unless the characters nationality is described as said American or other, then the characters should be played specifically by English, Scottish or Irish actors.

I can't imagine Sigourney Weaver as the motherly Mrs Weasley type anyway but Julie Walters is pulling it of admirably. I think it's hilarious when she blasts the twins and Ron for for taking the car etc - showing her fiery side (we know where Ginny gets it from) and then turns to Harry all cuddly motherly. I think Harry could get away with doing anything in Mrs Weasley's eyes but if the twins or Ron did the same thing it would be a different story. Julie pulls off that aspect of motherly love perfectly and I can't imagine anyone else in the role.

I think she is an AMAZING Molly Weasley. They really got that one right during casting. I think she will do great in the scene with Bellatrix in DH. (They better have that scene in the movie :) )

I couldn't imagine them cutting Julie from the film anyway seeing as she kills Bellatrix. If they do they could write it so that Neville kills Bellatrix instead given the background that he has with the Lestranges.

Actually I meant that Julie asked for the scene where she has a go at Bella - both verbally with the B word - and physically be kept in and they agreed to it - supposedly.

Julie Walters is awesome, she's my favourite actress after Helena Bonham Carter. She's the best Moly weasley but I thought she'd better be more ragged and more serious with Fred and George.

I think it's funny that someone here thought Julie Walters played Mrs. Weasley as too tough. I always thought she wasn't tough enough. In the books she was always going after the twins or Arthur. Her argument with Sirius in the movie wasn't nearly as tense as in the book, and I missed her going after Arthur's messing with muggle medicine (trying stitches for his wound) in movie 5. I really missed the scene with Mrs. Weasley's boggart, though. It shows her worries about the war and her family, and brings the war into sharper focus for Harry.

I think she plays the perfect Mrs. Weasley. I'm looking forward to seeing her in Deathly Hallows. Even though I have read the book, I still can't believe Mrs. Weasley kills Bellatrix. I can't wait to see it in the movie. I hope she nails it.

Juile's great as Mrs. Weasley. She has just the right amount of fire, as when she's yelling at Ron and the twins about taking the flying car, and when she's doing the howler. But then she transitions smoothly into a nurturing and motherly voice when addressing Harry. I too am looking forward to her scene with Bellatrix in DH - I have a feeling she'll deliver that line perfectly. :)

She's great but I always thought that Molly should be well, a bit untidier than that.

The thing I love most about Julie Walters as Mrs Weasley is her voice. The shrill yelling and the gentle encouragement all come through. She does a fantastic job! Really comes across as the motherly figure of love and affection, but she's certainly not someone I'd want to cross!

I can really see, with the interaction between herself and Rupert Grint especially, that mother-son thing really comes through.

Yes, exactly! And that is always the sign of something that really and truly works to perfection. To be honest, its the same for me with Rickman as Snape. I think the two of them really do have it bang on right.

Having said that, I know it's only what some of us are thinking. But I'm sure glad that two of my favourite characters worked out perfectly.

I love too her interactions in the Burrow and the entire family dynamic thing she has going on. There's so much development in the characters later on that I look forward to seeing how the particular favourites do with the development.

I'd just like to say that BBC Radio 4 is currently posting an abridged version of Julie Walter's autobiograpy That's another Story.

I usually don't like autobiographies much, but this book, read by herself si rather hilarious, so it's well worth listening.

There'll be five episodes (Monday to Friday), and you can listen to each for a week, which means the Monday one will be available till next Monday (6th October) morning (UK time) and so forth.

Perhaps someone here is interested.... she hasn't said much about Harry Potter so far (just an aside comment in the Thursday episode), but it's just entertaining to hear. I think she is quite a Mrs. Weasley, actually :D

See, I can relate to the shrill! It sounds just like my mum when she's in one of her rages! :lol: I think Julie Walters is a fantastic actress and I love her as Molly. I don't think there are actually that many British actresses around at the moment who could do the part to be honest. All our actresses seem to be models who are told to pout and string afew words together. :grumble:

Julie Walters is perfect for this role, I think the thread starter is provoking a bit.
But now that I think of it, Weaver would be a great Bellatrix. She is more how I imagine Bellatrix than Helen Bonham Carter.And I remember that someone once suggested Joely Richardson as Narcissa. She'd have been better than the current actress.

I not only think she's perfect for the role, but that really is how I imagined her in the books! She's just such a down-to-earth, motherly person...

I honestly never thought there would be dissent over Julie Walters, but I guess my own opinion, though widespread, doesn't win out! :lol:

I just thought she had the mother job down pat to be honest. Warm, loving, admirable, strong, but at the same time firm with her brood of rowdy loved ones. She had every reason to be overprotective at times, but there can also be no doubt that she proved herself. And Walter, in my opinion, plays that role very well.

In my little head, the fantasy Molly was perfectly fulfilled on screen by Walters. I can hear her saying the things Mrs Weasley said in the film! :D I admit that I had pictured her with shorter hair, sort of bobbish, but that was the only difference I saw, to be honest.

Julie plays her role as Molly perfectly and I truly believe that the Director could not have cast a better actress for her character.

I pictured Molly a little younger... mid 40's or so, but like Alan Rickman as Snape, she completely embodies who Molly is IMO.

Julie Walters is the perfect Mrs Weasley! She plays the mother-figure so well, and if you've seen her in other things (Dinnerladies springs to mind) you know that she can also play horrendous mothers. But the way she looks at the Weasley kids with that mixture of anger and love when they've done something wrong...you can't beat it!

I love her reactions whenever the kids get in trouble and she yells away at Ron but quickly tells Harry that he did nothing wrong and just smiles at him

I'm surprised there haven't been any posts on this thread in a year. I think Julie Walters is one of the best actors in the HP series and her performances are always brilliant. The Christmas scene in OotP displays how well-cast Walters is imo, she just fits the part perfectly and I couldn't imagine anyone else in the part. Like everyone else, I can't wait for her "scene" in DH; I'm sure she'll pull it off excellently. :)

Mostly I forget Molly when I think about the characters in HP and that is really odd cause Julie Walters is like the perfect Molly Weasley. But that might be because she doesn't have such a big role in the movies...Julie truly has the fire that Mrs. Weasley has. And she looks just like I have pictured Molly to look like.

She will do well in DH. I hope they kept the part where she AKs Bellatrix.

Absoloutely brilliant. I cannot wait for her in DH. I was watching CoS the other day- and when she's telling the Weasley brothers off- its just priceless! I love their family dynamic- they're so laid back and hilarious. I think that's why Harry enjoyed spending so much time with them as well.

She's perfect. I loved the moment in HBP when she watched the Burow burning (although I didn't appreciate the whole scene). She looked so weary and sad - it was so real!

Great acting. I love her portrayal of Molly. Very similar to the Molly in my head but my book molly is much fatter and has freckles. Cannot wait for that famous DH line. Hoping for a great act from Walters.
