Morgoth October 4th, 2007, 1:01 pm The question that has sent millions to war and brought uncaculable damage to communities everywhere! Dogs or Cats? Cats or Dogs? CatDog-DogCat!! What is better? Who is better? How? Why? WHEN?!
Ahem.
This is intended to be a *fun* thread. Please keep things light-hearted and don't take it too seriously.
*cough*CATS*cough*
Tenshi October 5th, 2007, 1:11 pm Cats of course!!! :D
The are Gods and should be treated like that. :D
IMissPadfoot October 5th, 2007, 1:14 pm  I will be the first to say that I think dogs are better! :p
Hes October 5th, 2007, 1:15 pm Cats naturally, they are way more majestic then dogs, they are pretty, don't need attention all the time, and manageable and they can sleep in your bed (who needs central heating) without pushing you out of it (or in general, mine is an exception :grumble: )
Luka13 October 5th, 2007, 1:33 pm I like dogs and cats actually... I've been raised with cats and dogs all of my life, so I can't really take sides! But, I voted for dogs.
BelleSnowyOwl October 5th, 2007, 3:02 pm I can't pick! I have two cats that I absolutly love, but I really want dog that I can take for walks and such. Cats are probably cuter, though! (And they make less of a mess).
8m57w6 October 5th, 2007, 3:12 pm I've always wanted a cat, but my dad is allergic to them. We do have a dog, though, and I love him very much, but I still think I'm more of a cat person. Actually, I'm a rabbit person, but that's something else.
I do love dogs, but they're just a bit too slobbery about things, and in the case of my dog destroy everything with even the smallest hint of stuffing, including some of my favorite stuffed animals. (*pout*) I've wanted a cat ever since I was little, dog I could live with or without.
Mundungus Fletc October 5th, 2007, 3:53 pm Dogs of course - who's ever heard of anyone eating cat
LoveWeasleys October 5th, 2007, 4:05 pm Hands down DOGS!!
I like this saying I heard in one of my pyschology classes
Dogs think about their owners: He feeds me, walks me, plays with me...He must be god
Cats think about their owners: He feeds me, walks me, plays with me...I must be god.
Oh and Padfoot...come on
Dogs of course - who's ever heard of anyone eating cat
:wow:
snapegirl October 5th, 2007, 4:10 pm Cats! I've had both cats and dogs, but cats are great. They don't need that much care, they use a litter box (no walking!), no barking and no drool. They're small and cute and they purr.
PotionA October 5th, 2007, 4:22 pm Dogs! They're cute, fun, friendly and loyal. So dogs hands down!
Jessica October 5th, 2007, 5:05 pm This is intended to be a *fun* thread. Please keep things light-hearted and don't take it too seriously.
How can we not be serious about one of the most important issues of our time.
*off to make "To Ban" list of people voting "cat"

Do I get a reprieve for being super special?
popcornzyum October 5th, 2007, 5:16 pm DOGS!!! I love dogs!!
I think i may be a bit biased....seeing as i'm allergic to cats..
ModernInkling October 5th, 2007, 5:22 pm Cats of course! What a silly question
Dogs lick too much.. and they destroy things.. and they bark. Cats, on the other hand, are sweet and intelligent (well, most of them are - one of mine is extraordinarily dumb, but the other is very smart), and independent, and they PURR! Yes, I love cats :D
P.S. I do in fact like dogs as well, because they can be more fun to play with... but I still like cats better!
Morgoth October 5th, 2007, 5:31 pm *off to make "To Ban" list of people voting "cat"
my kung-fu beats your kung-fu!
Jessica October 5th, 2007, 5:46 pm my kung-fu beats your kung-fu!
I know people who know people who can take you out.
Do I get a reprieve for being super special?
No.
Morgoth October 5th, 2007, 5:56 pm I know people who know people who can take you out.
ooh, to the cinema? A nice little French bistro with snooty waiters? A picnic in a park with the Autumn leaves falling gracefully around us?
nikkiq October 5th, 2007, 5:58 pm Bunnies!

Sid's really mellow but our dearly departed Nancy would have had a cat for breakfast I reckon...
Israely_Wizard October 5th, 2007, 6:47 pm Well, I voted dogs, but I have had to much bad expirience with both of them.
*on speakerfon* In the red corner: it's cats! including here are my late half Siamese cat who hated my soul because I pluked her fur when I was a baby and my sisters' hyperactive, crazey kitten, who I think is loonatic.
In the blue corner: it's dogs! though I have a dog myself, I have being chased by not one, but two dogs (one chased me twise) and a third, very ferocious, half Dachshund-half Miniarure Pincher bit me on my Index finger.
*bell sounding* And the fight begins! Cats scratch me, dogs bite me, and I'm down. 1...2...3...4...5...6...7...8...9...*bell sounding again* It's over!
In this fight I'm the one that always lose.
Alastor October 5th, 2007, 7:00 pm Cats naturally, they are way more majestic then dogs, they are pretty, don't need attention all the time, and manageable and they can sleep in your bed (who needs central heating) without pushing you out of it (or in general, mine is an exception :grumble: )But quite good at nicking the covers, so the central heating isn't all that redundant.
Hes October 5th, 2007, 7:26 pm But quite good at nicking the covers, so the central heating isn't all that redundant.
Too true, they are experts in that!
But I am pro cat so can't continue finding faults  so... they make nice purring sounds and they are much more comfortable to have on your lap.
Tenshi October 5th, 2007, 7:36 pm I am overgrateful when I am allowed to use my computer chair.
snapegirl October 5th, 2007, 7:39 pm I am overgrateful when I am allow to use my computer chair.
:rotfl: I know the feeling and sometimes my cats fight each other over the computer chair.
8m57w6 October 5th, 2007, 7:44 pm My uncle lives with my grandpa, and my has a very... how to put this, well, cat gets what cat wants. My grandpa has a beagle, and if cat is lying somewhere dog very carefully avoids cat by about a 3 foot diameter at all times, and if dog is ever out of place, cat gets her in check.
mac_attack October 5th, 2007, 7:53 pm I like both dogs and cats, but I voted for dogs. :) They are just cuddlier. I love it when you hold puppies and they fall asleep in your arms...awwwww.
Alastor October 5th, 2007, 8:09 pm My uncle lives with my grandpa, and my has a very... how to put this, well, cat gets what cat wants. My grandpa has a beagle, and if cat is lying somewhere dog very carefully avoids cat by about a 3 foot diameter at all times, and if dog is ever out of place, cat gets her in check.I have actually seen dog getting cat in check. Our taker-care-of-the-cattle or whatever that profession is called in English called in vain for her cat to come home for the night. And our dog vanished only to reappear after a few minutes following the cat coming home. He never did anything like that with our own cats, though. Quite an achievement considering:
1 that cats don't obey. period.
2 his efforts in herding sheep was an outright disaster. Only got them running in every direction except the wanted one.
Tenshi October 5th, 2007, 8:14 pm I know the feeling and sometimes my cats fight each other over the computer chair.
But I found a good solution now. The cat got her own chair.
8m57w6 October 5th, 2007, 8:38 pm I have actually seen dog getting cat in check. Our taker-care-of-the-cattle or whatever that profession is called in English called in vain for her cat to come home for the night. And our dog vanished only to reappear after a few minutes following the cat coming home. He never did anything like that with our own cats, though. Quite an achievement considering:

My mom told me about a friend of hers who had some sort of herding dog, though I forget the breed, that used to "herd" her daughters stuffed animals. Probably much easier to get teddy bears to obey than actual bears.
HermioneGR October 5th, 2007, 8:38 pm I voted dogs because I like them slightly more than cats:)
Redhart October 5th, 2007, 9:30 pm I have to say, I do like both cats and dogs--but for those life-long helpers and total, unconditional love--dogs, hands down. I'm a dog-person to the end, and totally devoted to those fur-kids totally devoted to us.
(Did you really expect me to vote for anything else?)
mugglesrock October 5th, 2007, 11:22 pm Dogs dogs dogs! So loyal.
Chris October 6th, 2007, 12:30 am *Sneeze
Who brought the cat into the thread? I always start sneezing when that happens...
Yup, dog person here
Alastor: the word's "shepherd" :)
Rappy28 October 6th, 2007, 1:30 am Dogs of course ! There's nothing more heart warming than coming back home and see my dogs catch up with the car, wagging their tails and being so darn happy I'm back they start whining with joy. :D I don't mind the smell much, and I think some dogs are much cuter than cats (to me, it's like all cats look alike >_>).
Cats... Distant, sinister beings with very sharp claws who love stealing my bed... and pouncing on me when I'm lying down. I swear I broke down crying when it happened once... Just being around them makes me nervous, and I know they know it, which in turn makes me even more paranoid.
Save me !
eyes_green October 6th, 2007, 1:46 am GO Cats! :)
I love cats, they're just so much more independent, I love it when one of my cats crawls into bed next to me on a cold night, it's the most comforting thing in the world to have a cat *drawls on and on in raptures over her cats*
Spirit October 6th, 2007, 6:20 am As much as I love my cat, I have to say I like dogs more. Dogs just seem to be better companions than cats, plus they are more childish and fun.
Alastor October 6th, 2007, 6:24 am Alastor: the word's "shepherd" :)I'm afraid cattle and sheep aren't exactly synonyms.
Chris October 6th, 2007, 6:49 am Touche', Alastor. Must look that one up at some point
I'll blame that on being distracted by sneezing due to my cat allergy
YellowRose October 6th, 2007, 7:08 am Dogs...they are squishy and like to be cuddled. :)
Raven_Girly October 6th, 2007, 7:30 am I've grown up with cats so they are what I like best. I don't mind dogs and wouldn't mind owning one one day but I think I'll always really be a cat person.
Colonel_Fubster October 6th, 2007, 9:27 am Oooh, that's a tough question (she says sarcastically....)
Cats make me sneeze too. And Barney thinks they're "food that moves". :rotfl:
Sandy would like to be friends with cats, but they don't understand, and usually beat her up. :sigh:
Alastor, I think the word you wanted is "cowherd".
Alastor October 6th, 2007, 3:03 pm Thanks Colonel. But this can't be the word either. So let's leave it now and talk cats & dogs :)
Lord Godric October 6th, 2007, 5:58 pm Why does it not surprise me that when I come to the poll, it is tied.
SevPrince October 6th, 2007, 6:18 pm What a tough question? *not really*
Cats rule, dogs drool!
Top 11 Dog & Cat Characteristics-I got from the internet.
11. Dogs come when you call them. Cats take a message and get back to you.
10. Dogs look much better at the end of a leash.
9. Dogs will let you give them a bath without taking out a contract on your life.
8. Dogs will bark to wake you up if the house is on fire. Cats will quietly sneak out the back door. (my note, I heard stories where cats called 911 )
7. Dogs will bring you your slippers or the evening newspaper. Cats might bring you a dead mouse.
6. Dogs will play Frisbee with you all afternoon. Cats will take a three-hour nap.
5. Dogs will sit on the car seat next to you. Cats have to have their own private box or they will not go at all.
4. Dogs will greet you and lick your face when you come home from work. Cats will be mad that you went to work at all.
3. Dogs will sit, lie down, and heel on command. Cats will smirk and walk away.
2. Dogs will tilt their heads and listen whenever you talk. Cats will yawn and close their eyes.
1. Dogs will give you unconditional love forever. Cats will make you pay for every mistake you've ever made since the day you were born.
In another word, cats play to their own tune while dogs are house elves (slaves). :p

gillikitty2000 October 6th, 2007, 6:23 pm oh my gosh! cats!!! I had no problem with this. I have five cats, all of which are amazing, and then i have one dog who just plain annoys the heck out of me! I can't stand her unless shes sleeping in which case she is cute, so it didnt take me long to decide. Plus, i love it when cats curl up on your bed and sleep next to you. its like you have a moving fuzzy teddy bear.
Alastor October 6th, 2007, 7:03 pm Cats might bring you a dead mouse.
Except when they bring them alive. It's soo fun watch your human hunting mice behind the refrigerator or the stove or wherever those fast creatures like to hide.
8m57w6 October 6th, 2007, 7:06 pm Yesterday beloved dog tore part of the rain gutter off the house after trapping a woodchuck inside. Since Rex bent it to a 90-degree angle, and chewed both ends quite near shut, Woodchuck managed to stay in the middle and stay alive until Rex went inside, and my mom shook him out of the pipe. Cats aren't quite so destructive as far as I've seen, though I may be proven wrong.

Nicely done.
Rappy28 October 6th, 2007, 10:44 pm In another word, cats play to their own tune while dogs are house elves (slaves). :p
I know, aren't house elves just adorable ? And they're useful too.
Nadia October 7th, 2007, 12:12 am Even though someone was doing a blackmailing campaign *coughTENSHIcough* against dogs... I just love my doggies! Sorry, Tenshi!
Felis October 7th, 2007, 3:41 am Cats may be solitary, but they're very affectionate, or can be. And they're low matience, usually more cuddly (with vibration, too!)... And if they ARE violent (still speaking about common house cat, here), they aren't very harmful. I, myself, like getting cat scratches. ... <.< ...Yes, I do enjoy some pain... Thus I vote for cats.
HarryPotter October 7th, 2007, 4:18 am Cats, of course

guad October 7th, 2007, 11:40 am Only yesterday I saw a movie that pretty much sums up the matter for me:
Cats and Dogs (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0239395/)
It's a documentary movie ( :rotfl: ) which illustrates perfectly the awesomeness of dogs and the malevolent nature of cats.

VOTE FOR DOGS! CATS ARE EVIL!!!
HugForLupin October 7th, 2007, 11:56 am Dogs. I am very much a dog person, and I've never liked cats that much. Dogs are loyal, friendly, playful, messy, mischeivous and they eat anything.
I'm probably descended from dogs. I just posted a description of myself up there..
But I adore dogs. I've got a luffly border collie sheepdog called Deefer (D-for-dog, geddit?).

I miss my cat now I'm back at uni. she sleeps in bed with me and keeps me warm when I'm at home :(

Rastaban43 October 7th, 2007, 12:44 pm LOL, this poll reminds me of one of my favourite films - The War of the Roses.
snapegirl October 7th, 2007, 4:22 pm While visting my aunt and uncle yesterday, I remembered another reason why cats are better. They have two dogs and the dogs are always begging for food. You have to always watch your plate or the dogs will take whatever you're eating.
My cats show zero interest in people food.
ModernInkling October 7th, 2007, 5:03 pm I'm beginning to notice a strange trend here... I wonder if most people who like Snape, prefer cats, and vice versa? They do have many things in common... Independent, intelligent, out for themselves... but still very very capable of love!Just an idea :D
('Course, I love Sirius more than Snape, and I still think cats are waaaaayyy better, but still.)
Rell October 7th, 2007, 10:37 pm Well, I would definitely break such a trend

guad! Excellent movie!
Ivy sends regards :)
I actually have a personal link to that movie via the Saluki "Ivy" (the female).
I know the two girls that shared the role. They are lovely, sweet dogs. Their real life names are "Fancy" and "Mia" and are mother and daughter:
http://s167.photobucket.com/albums/u156/Redhart_2/th_StarsMiaFancy.jpg
Here they are relaxing on the set.
Fancy is the mother of my dog, Tazz...Mia is his sister. Mia is also the mother of my dog, Sonnet. Fancy is her grandmother.
Here is a photo of Fancy dressed in combat gear and flack jacket to take on Evil kitties!!!
http://s167.photobucket.com/albums/u156/Redhart_2/th_DogsRulesm.jpg
This is an excellent movie for those who wish to further address the question of "Dogs or Cats"???? Do rent it if you have the chance, no matter which side you are on.

guad, If you would like to hear more about "the girls" in the movie, do drop me an owl. I won't take it any further off topic on the thread, but would like to only add....
Dogs Rule! :D
MC2456 October 8th, 2007, 5:06 am I love cats! Esp. kittens, but older cats would do as well. When I see stray cats I would meow to it. Sometimes the cats would meow back, and my heart will melt like sugar. But I love dogs too, only not as much as cats.
8m57w6 October 8th, 2007, 5:25 am I love cats! Esp. kittens, but older cats would do as well. When I see stray cats I would meow to it. Sometimes the cats would meow back, and my heart will melt like sugar. But I love dogs too, only not as much as cats.
I once meowed at a stray in my driveway when I was coming home from school. It looked at me funny, so I bent down and called it over. It came a layed by me, so I petted it for a while. It was such a sweet cat, but after a bit, it got up and left. I'm actually not sure if it was really a stray or not, since we have these people in our neightborhood who just let their cats wander.

LoonyMagic October 8th, 2007, 6:45 pm Yay! Cats are winning! And rightly so! :D
adam_12 October 8th, 2007, 9:40 pm Go Cats! Cats are so entertaining, and they don't need affection when you're not ready to give it to them.

I like my bets to be self-reliant, independent and cute. :eyebrows:
Lash Dresden October 8th, 2007, 10:43 pm "Which do you prefer?" and "Which is better?" are two different questions. ;)

Hey--I have salukis. If you want an "independent" dog, they are very clever and self reliant. If they had thumbs, they'd take over  A saluki would be offended if you called them "needy".
I have owned cats, too--I do like them. I had one named Whimpy--he was about the neediest, clingy and human-reliant animal I ever knew! I've had another cat that was otherwise.
Just like people, animals come in all shapes and types...dogs and their personalities do, too!
and, if you wish to discuss cute?

I rest my case.
ModernInkling October 9th, 2007, 2:44 am Well, I would definitely break such a trend
Not this Snape fan.....
Haha, guess I was wrong then  It still seems like it would make sense, but I suppose people would never be that predictable.
Oh, and I just thought of another argument for cats: Cats don't knock over innocent little children by jumping on them ;)
Colonel_Fubster October 9th, 2007, 7:46 am Hey--I have salukis. If you want an "independent" dog, they are very clever and self reliant. If they had thumbs, they'd take over A saluki would be offended if you called them "needy". True of Barney as well. He knows how to open gates and eat blueberries right off the bush. mariebeth83 October 9th, 2007, 12:16 pm Dogs rule! I've had experiences with both, we had dogs & cats when I was growing up, and all of the cats ran away - might have been to do with the dogs!
also as i'm allergic to cats, well dogs are going to win anyway!
cathairetic October 9th, 2007, 6:31 pm Dogs of course - who's ever heard of anyone eating cat
The Chinese eat cats and it is totally disgusting. Just google "cats China" and see what comes up. Your lunch will probably come up also. If I had a fortune I'd spend it on buying up all the cats in the Chinese markets.
They also like dogs.
gertiekeddle October 9th, 2007, 7:41 pm Dogs.
I grew up with both, cats and dogs, and dogs just usually can carry more chocolate.
Moriath October 9th, 2007, 7:58 pm I grew up with both, cats and dogs, and dogs just usually can carry more chocolate.
Dogs are not made of chocolate, gertie.
gertiekeddle October 9th, 2007, 8:05 pm If they were there were none in my surroundings, though.
Did you ever try to let a cat carry your daily chocolate supply? Seems these poor pets can't do more than 6 or 7 kg/lb. :relax:
Jessica October 9th, 2007, 8:09 pm Dogs are not made of chocolate, gertie.

Hes October 9th, 2007, 8:32 pm That's exploiting? Woops. :scared:
Depends on the amount of chocolate they had to pull on a daily basis and knowing you and your addiction... ;)
loonyluna0114 October 13th, 2007, 4:23 pm I think they both have good points and bad points.
Cats
- Independant, could very easily fend for themselves and need minimal management whilst away on holday.
-Can be very loving when they want to be
- Are alot of fun
- Have enough personality to create the impression of having another family member
- Make you feel needed and wanted
HOWEVER
-everythings on their terms, if they dont wana do something, they wont.
If your allergic to cat hair, then they make you want to rip your nose off due to insane itchiness!
-They may be independany, but they still rely on you and cost money.
Dogs
-Alot of fun to train
-Always happy to see you and very loyal
- Make you feel loved and give plenty of cuddles
- Provide excercise, due to large amount of walks they need
- Proivde companionship on a different level to other people
HOWEVER
-Require alot of care and attention, and make going on holiday difficult as a dogsitter is required.
- Always find the smelliest dog mess ad dirtiest puddles to roll in!
- Time consuming due to amount of walks needed
But in my personal experience, Ive always found dogs alot more enjoyable as I enjoy the training aspects of animal care and find dogs to be alot more responsive, I also enjoy being needed and having someone there for me to give me cuddles.
cathairetic October 14th, 2007, 5:34 am After some thought, I think that dog people want something they can dominate, that worships them, that loves them no matter what they do. In my own personal experience dogs are pretty high maintenance and they are messy.
I think cat people are more confident about themselves and are content to let the cat just be itself.
If you bring a kitten home, you show it where its food and water are, put it in its litterbox and scratch its paw to show it what is expected of it. Give the kitten a couple of toys and watch it play, watch it eat, drink and use the litterbox. Pet it and it purrs, and loves you back without washing your face with its tongue.
If you bring a puppy home, you have papers all over the place, you have to take it outside every single time it eats so it can poop and pee. When it begins to teeth it eats your sofa and coffee table. It will turn over the garbage. If you don't pay attention to it, it is bored and chews your shoes or the chair legs, it will dig holes in your garden. It must be kept in a crate when you are gone or it will destroy your house. Dogs smell and need to be bathed.
I have four cats and you would not know it when you come in. The house does not smell like cats or cat poo. I would rather scoop a litterbox twice a day rather than have to do all the work that is needed to train a dog.
I'm just a lazy old cat person, I guess.
Rappy28 October 14th, 2007, 4:15 pm Which is why I'll never be able to have a dog on my own... Way too many responsibilites for me to handle. I'm just content with my dogs _ or should I say, the dogs my mother cares for.
Cats are completely out of question for me, due to my slight felinophobia. And you're right, I love a pet who loves me back and whom I can effectively dominate. I like knowing what's going on in my pet's head (i.e. for dogs, next to nothing, but that's part of why I like them so much). I view cats as mysterious, vicious beings with very sharp claws who love prowling around me just to see me squirm. I swear. :scared:
gertiekeddle October 14th, 2007, 5:01 pm After some thought, I think that dog people want something they can dominate, that worships them, that loves them no matter what they do. In my own personal experience dogs are pretty high maintenance and they are messy.Actually I met many dog persons who did kind of hard for a long time to really dominate their dog and accept that it is an animal usually living in rules. It seems the wish to have a dog comes first (if you didn't grow up with them already) but the awareness that you have to become a lordling to them later.
Seeing how different the personalities of dog and cat persons can be I tend to say you can't say much about the human's character - and we may better skip the topic before we make this an even busier war zone in here. :) But I would subscribe that pet owners may go along better with the particular other human, just to have a common start with.
I like cats too actually (don't tell anyone), but I believe it depends a bit how much attention they need. The male cat of friends just slightly begins to carve the furniture (and sometimes books random guests just left on the table) if ignored longer than ten minutes. Just never try to entertain him, when your schedule allows it - I still have some scars on my hands, but last visited these guys in September.
Night_Sky October 19th, 2007, 2:17 am I do not think one is better then the other. I have a dog and I love him. He is a small dog but he does not know it. He thinks he is the biggest dog on the block and he is only about 10 pounds but he loves me for the way I am and I can not ask anymore then that from him.

I just love our little adorable gorgeous kitten...she's the first real pet I've had, and she's just so cute! Okay...I'm going to go cuddle her again now
Cat lovers, rejoice, for the tie has been broken and cats are winning once more! :D
xraydude October 21st, 2007, 5:55 pm One of my cats, Nimbus, has managed to win the trust of a *yuck* dog, and is now firmly entrenched in the canine camp. He is quietly collecting information for us to use in our campaign of feline world domination... ummm... as soon as he finishes his nap.

DancingMaenid October 21st, 2007, 11:12 pm I'm a cat person!
I like dogs, too, but I don't know if I'd ever get one. I've dogsat, and they're a lot of work. And my cats are a ton of work as it is. Plus, um, they sort of slobber on me, and the big ones usually make a habit of standing up on their hind legs and trying to lick me on the lips. Charming, I'm sure, but sloppy.
I love my cats, though in the future, I'm not sure I'd have more than one. My cats mostly hiss at each other.

RemusLupinFan October 23rd, 2007, 12:17 am I've always been more fond of dogs than cats, but I don't mind cats. I've never had either one, but if I had to choose, I'd get a dog.

I prefer smaller dogs to big ones too. I've always grown up with cats (although I had a dog for a few years when I was younger) so big dogs always take a bit of getting used to for me.
Tiberius October 28th, 2007, 7:51 am I notice that cats are ahead.
As it should be.
Redhart October 28th, 2007, 4:55 pm Ahem....have you ever heard of guide-cats for the blind?
Dogs are truly man's best friend, and still side with canines!
Chris October 28th, 2007, 5:16 pm Ahead by 1...that's not even statistically significant.
Besides, staff votes count for two. That puts dogs back ahead :relax:.
xraydude October 28th, 2007, 5:17 pm Ahem....have you ever heard of guide-cats for the blind?

This is more propaganda from the Canine controlled, left-paw media! Cats are very willing to accept those positions, but not for just kibbles and bits! Just the other day, my cat tripped me to prevent me from going outside where all manner of horrible things could have occurred.:p
cathairetic October 29th, 2007, 4:55 am Wasn't it Mark Twain who said something to the effect that "Cats and women will do as they please and men and dogs should just get used to it."
You don't see eight cats pulling a sled through snow and ice either.
Cats will do tricks just like a dog but you have to reward them with food in order to get them to do anything. Personally they may not be nicer in that regard but they sure are smarter. Why do something for a pat on the head if you can get a real reward?
Tenshi October 30th, 2007, 12:54 am I love:

HarrietaPotter October 30th, 2007, 1:53 am I have put cats in the lead with my vote but I can also see why people like dogs so much. Perhaps if I haven't been struggling with a severe childhood trauma involving dogs I would have been in a better position to appreciate them. However, I have come a long way. I don't hate dogs anymore and I even manage not to flinch at the sight of them sometimes. I even like some of the chappies now :) Especially the ones called Chao-Chao, I think..

Ackkkk... er... Nys October 30th, 2007, 11:59 pm I've just changed my signature slightly to aid the cause of dogs.... :D
Quickquill October 31st, 2007, 12:19 am Better for what? They're different , but they're both lovable. Dogs can be trained to assist people in various ways, so if you need a working animal to help with something, dogs are better. On the other hand, cats' purring has a very calming effect on the human nervous system, so cats make good companion animals for people who aren't up to walking a dog, or who just want a natural soporific. They also are good at hunting small pests like mice, and even scare slightly bigger pests away. I love both dogs and cats, so I didn't vote. You should have included an option for those of us who didn't want to choose one over the other.
Jessica October 31st, 2007, 12:25 am I've just changed my signature slightly to aid the cause of dogs...

BTW, the latest rumor that I heard is that dogs are responsible for global warming.:eyebrows:
LoveWeasleys October 31st, 2007, 3:08 am Cats waste fire fighter's time by getting stuck up in trees and needing to be rescued, I am pretty sure that is why the fires spread so fast in California.

Raven_Girly October 31st, 2007, 4:53 am Everytime I check this poll, cats are one vote ahead of dogs. That's not right...they should be several votes ahead!
Nys October 31st, 2007, 5:09 am I heard a rumor that dog lovers get into Hogsmeade more quickly.
:whistle:I didn't think we were letting any cat lovers in these days?
cathairetic October 31st, 2007, 6:10 am There are millions more cats than dogs in homes these days but I think that is due to the fact that cat owners will have more cats than dog owners will have dogs. Once upon a time we had eight cats and you wouldn't have known they were there. The litter boxes were patrolled regularly and we kept the house very clean. No pet hair around, etc.
So a visitor who rang our doorbell wouldn't come in and sniff and say, "Oh, you have cats."
If someone had eight dogs in the house and a visitor rang the doorbell, either the dogs would begin to bark or, when the visitor entered he or she would either be knocked down by the herd of dogs wanting to greet them or he or she would be drowned in slobber. It's not the dogs' fault they are so obnoxious. Most people don't bother to train their dogs, witness the popularity of the television program "The Dog Whisperer" and "It's Me or the Dog."
LoonyMagic October 31st, 2007, 10:14 am Either that or it is that even crawfish know that dogs are better and they are trying to bring cats down one by one :elaugh:

Sehnsucht November 2nd, 2007, 11:37 pm I have an odd perspective. This is applicable only to those who have a preference for dogs over cats.
One cat will not be very interesting, but one dog will be fun.
Many cats, with 4-6 being the starting line for "many", are quite interesting. Many dogs, however, are less so--it is rather inconvenient to have a drove of hounds that are... "mounting", to put it a bit lightly... every object in one's domicile.

Funny thing is that cat always were in lead. When will the dogs start to attack? When it's too late?
Hes November 7th, 2007, 12:30 pm Your wish is my command. :D
Someone needs to convince lani to vote...he likes cats, too!
Uhm I owled him, so we will see

Hes November 8th, 2007, 10:58 pm First to 50 is the winner, right? Meowwww, baby!
I would say so... but those dog lovers might object
mariebeth83 November 9th, 2007, 12:01 am I think that the dog lovers should be allowed vote more than once...I'm going to owl Jessica
succubus November 9th, 2007, 3:16 am Ooooooo, I hadn't even thought of all my relatives that I could blackmail...er... ask to sign up and vote for cats... I mean whichever pet they prefer. Christmas is coming and my leverage is at a high point right now.
Leverage . . . hmmmm . . . let's see now - I am a dog lover, you are a cat lover, we are married, I voted for dogs, you voted for cats. Your relatives know who actually picks out the gifts in this house and you don't get to remain No. 1 son because you did the shopping. I think I'm going to have to have a little talk with the in-laws.
I think they will all agree with me that DOGS are better.

The two of you rule! You're definitely adding some more humour to this thread :D  but I'm so with you succubus...go have lots of little talks with the in-laws! Remind them just how much they want a really nice present - bought by you!
By the way, I was thinking of putting up a petition that all known cat lovers who haven't voted in this thread should be banned from voting in this particular poll :D

Pfft, Morgoth wouldn't allow it. :p
Colonel_Fubster November 9th, 2007, 7:40 am The survey numbers are not necessarily reflective of reality. My extensive and confidential calculations prove that one dog is equal to 2.36849562 cats. Therefore, dogs are leading. ;)
Redhart November 9th, 2007, 1:49 pm Yes, I just double checked the figures. Colonel Fubster is correct.
(Go dogs!)
Hes November 9th, 2007, 3:01 pm Pfff I think you two need to get back to math class... but they always say cats are more intelligent then dogs... maybe it's the same with cat and doglovers?
Anyway cats still ahead so everything is good.

Sorry I aced maths in school and their figures are right! :D go Dogs!
Jessica November 9th, 2007, 9:37 pm It doesn't matter. Just because more people are wrong in this poll doesn't make dog lovers any less right.
Also I'd like to point out that no dog voters have been banned

Yeah, and I'll bet that a couple of people probably accidentally clicked the wrong button when choosing between cats and dogs but are too ashamed to admit it.
Also, if I had known when xraydude was voting for the enemy (cats), I could have sent his baby girl pug in to distract him from the scheming, evil yellow Nimbus kitty that has plagued our home like a fungus. I blame xraydude's incorrect vote on my own failure to monitor the cat because I know that if he had to choose, he would pick the puglet when not under the spell of the evil one. Sorry, my bad!! :scared:
Dogs are only 2 behind now - come on folks. Vote for dogs!!

This is a very good point! Simply being in the majority doesn't make anyone right! Also I'd like to point out that no dog voters have been banned
CORRUPTION!!!
cathairetic November 10th, 2007, 1:46 am It's kind of nice to see all of you arguing about who we love more... cats or dogs. That means that all of us (I hope) have given homes and love to these animals and other kinds of animals also. So whether you are a dog lover or a cat lover, just know that you are being kind and good by sharing a home with a pet. And stroking a pet lowers your blood pressure.
xraydude November 10th, 2007, 3:13 pm 3 more dog votes since yesterday? I smell a conspiracy, and it smells like wet dog! :hmm:
DeathlyH November 10th, 2007, 3:41 pm Yay! I've just put dogs in the lead by 2!
(I'm like Hagrid; cats make me sneeze.)
LoonyMagic November 10th, 2007, 3:52 pm 3 more dog votes since yesterday? I smell a conspiracy, and it smells like wet dog! :hmm:
...And wet dog doesn't smell too good  Come on cat lovers! :D
Redhart November 10th, 2007, 4:56 pm  Yay for big, wet puppy kisses and soft puppy ears!
Colonel_Fubster November 11th, 2007, 7:11 am ...And wet dog doesn't smell too good  Actually, wet dog is one of the better smells Barney produces...
Yay dogs! Waggy tails and tennis balls and big goofy grins!
mariebeth83 November 11th, 2007, 11:21 am Go dogs! Go dogs! Go dogs!!! Ha...the dogs have the lead! yay!!! :D keep on voting for dogs guys! Go team dogs!!
jessicarowling November 11th, 2007, 12:30 pm i personally like cats better because they're just the right size (they dont get overly big and they're not too small) and they're sooo cute and they're VERY clean and quite easy to potty-train (they usually already are)
LoveWeasleys November 11th, 2007, 2:30 pm  for dogs!! YAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!!!!!!
Rell November 11th, 2007, 3:33 pm jessica rigged it duh
Also, this travesty is likely the cause of cos' downfall yesterday. There is no other explanation for it.
xraydude November 11th, 2007, 3:54 pm jessica rigged it duh
You know, I wasn't going to say anything, but the forums did have some technical difficulties last night, perhaps someone was getting rid of the evidence of their malfeasance? hmmmm....:elaugh:
