jammi567 October 4th, 2007, 11:50 pm So, who here still plays these excelent games? I definatly do, and they're still as brilliant as when they first came out.
So, this thread is for discussing anything to do with them - trading, breeding, raising, catching, stuck on the E4 and Rival - should be discussed here.
I do have a question. In Diamond, where's the best place to train your Pokemon before the E4? I'm not there yet, but it would be nice to know, so that i can prepare.
Fawkesfan1 October 5th, 2007, 3:30 am I still play them every so often, not as much as I used to though.
I liked Crystal and Silver the best overall though, due to the fact that you get to go to 2 lands and face twice the amount of gym leaders :D.
Hmm -- best place to train before going to the E4 in Diamond? Well for me, Victory Road was a pretty good place to train.
Hope that helps you out :).
VenomBDP October 5th, 2007, 5:19 am I've been playing them for YEARS. I still love them. Just started Diamond recently though, so 'fraid I can't help ya there. I agree though, they're still great games, even after all these years. Nintendo keeps finding ways to keep the games new and exciting, even if it's just by adding little changes here and there.
Israely_Wizard October 5th, 2007, 12:26 pm I started Diamond too. I'm stuck on the third Gym; the Gym Leadrs Lucario is realy tough, even though I have a Drifloon, a Kadabra and a Ponyta; I think it's because they're weaker then him, they're LVs 21-23 and he's LV 30.
Did you hear the rumers that there is going to be a remake of Gold and Silver for the DS. What would you say if there was Gold Nugget & Silver Coin?

Hmm -- try getting them closer to around lv.30, say lv. 25-27 or so. That's what I had to do in order to beat the third gym.
I heard about it -- I got an issue of Nintendo Power awhile back that kind of put them to rest (sadly :() though, in the Pulse section, someone asked about that, and they said that they weren't planning on making a remake of those games in the near future.

Man, now I'm depresed, did you have to spoile it for me and everybody that hoped for a remake?!
On a lighter note, thanks for the tip, I'll train them hard and good.
P.S: Did you notice that although the massive Attack stats that Kadabra has, he has really but really low Defence and Sp. Defence?
jammi567 October 5th, 2007, 4:04 pm P.S: Did you notice that although the massive Attack stats that Kadabra has, he has really but really low Defence and Sp. Defence?
I think you mean Sp. Attack, as Kadabra has no physical attacks to speak of. And my one has a really high Sp. Defence.
Fawkesfan1, thanks for the advice.

Sorry, that's just what Nintendo said, personally I was somewhat depressed myself after hearing the news. I was hoping for a remake of those games as well.
You're welcome -- good luck :)!
Yep -- that's it's one big flaw, low defense and sp. attack. I generally try and do my best to up those stats for the most part and put at least one defense type move on any Kadabra that I have.
I think you mean Sp. Attack, as Kadabra has no physical attacks to speak of. And my one has a really high Sp. Defence.
Fawkesfan1, thanks for the advice.
You're welcome Jammi -- glad that I could help :).
jammi567 October 5th, 2007, 8:10 pm I wish they would remake it, as it's my favorite gnration of all the games, but oh well.
Fawkesfan1 October 5th, 2007, 9:55 pm I wish they would remake it, as it's my favorite gnration of all the games, but oh well.
So do I :( -- and they're making a mistake by not doing so, considering the batteries in a lot of the games (Gold, Silver and Crystal) are dying.
jammi567 October 5th, 2007, 10:02 pm Unless you get them specifically replaced.
For Diamond's E4, what's the best, overall team to have. Complete with moves, of course. Ohh, and also, i can't trade with anyone.

I heard about that.
Hmm -- well it depends on what kind of team that you like to use. If you like defensive type Pokémon, then use them, if you like a team that's more sp. attack based, use them, and so on and so forth.
There is no real best team persay, it's all in how you raise them, at least in my opinion. The best thing to do is to raise them in a balanced manner.
Raven_Girly October 6th, 2007, 5:03 am Pokemon was definitely one of my favourite games as a kid. I had (and still have somewhere...) Red, Blue, Yellow, Silver, Crystal and Ruby. I haven't played them in a while though. I've played Diamond a bit too. Everything seems a bit too modern to me and there's way too many Pokemon now. I can't get my head around it all. I suppose I just love the old school stuff best. :)
griffiegrrl October 6th, 2007, 12:10 pm I Own
Pokemon Red
Pokemon Yellow
Pokemon Gold
and Pokemon Sapphire
I started with Red and Yellow, then skipped to Sapphire, and not that long ago bought Gold for myself so I would have one from each era. If I get a NDS lite for christmas, I'll buy myself Diamond or Pearl.
So as Pokefans, do you guys like Diamond, or is it too modern? I'm not sure about the 3D effects....It seems a bit too...I'm not sure. The Sinnoh Underground sounds interesting.
Also when I come back on tomorrow I'll post some of my Pokemon teams and breeding projects.
Israely_Wizard October 6th, 2007, 2:01 pm I have a 50-in-1 game that include Red, Blue and Yelow for the GBC that my sister bought for me from Thailand wwwwaaaaaaayyyyy back.
I also have a GBA with Leaf Green in it. And, I once had Gold, but I gave it away to some kid.

I kinda like the Diamond game; the new Pokemon are cool, the gyms are cool and the new Villians are cool.
I do think that the Underground is just a gimic for the DS owners and is just there to make use of the touchscreen (though I did get some cool stuff from there)
unconvinced October 6th, 2007, 2:49 pm Wow I remember Pokemon, I think I had a blue one  I remember being very proud of my Zapdos :D
jammi567 October 6th, 2007, 7:59 pm I really do like Diamond - it just keeps it updated whilst keeping some traditional elements to it. Although, i must admit, i don't have much use for the Wi-Fi part of it.
griffiegrrl October 7th, 2007, 4:48 pm I really do like Diamond - it just keeps it updated whilst keeping some traditional elements to it. Although, i must admit, i don't have much use for the Wi-Fi part of it.
Yeah, I've always pretty much been a single player pokemon player. I mean, I've linked a few times but hardly at all. It's still fun, even though you can't catch them all. But I've always been focused on catching all the ones I CAN catch in a game, not neccisarily catching all of the ones, period.
Well, one thing that sounds cool about Diamond and Pearl is that you can plug in your Firered/Leafgreen/Sapphire/Ruby/Emerald and bring over your pokemon from that. Although, don't you have to wait until you beat the Elite Four? But still, it's nice.
I'll post some of my Pokemon in a bit.
jammi567 October 7th, 2007, 5:59 pm It does happen after the E4, but you have to have seen all 150 Sinoh Dex Pokemon first.

I have two Blazikens because my luck was to start out with a Female Torchic in the beginning of the game, which meant MASS BREEDING! Yay.
Sceptile was traded from someone who started a new game just to trade with me. I am currently training Rayquaza, Latias, and Swellow.
Kyogre is eventually going to learn Thunder to take advantage of his Drizzle.
godrics hollow October 9th, 2007, 1:41 am Um i don't know what its like now... but in the old ones (silver down) you just need 2 uber powerful pokemon to destroy everything else :P i know in blue i used a pigeot that was like 20 levels higher than any of my other pokemon and i just solo'd E4 with him....

Sure, you can solo the E4 with just one pokemon. I've solo'd the E4 with my Blaziken before, but it's more interesting to use weaknesses and using all of your other cool pokemon as well.
EDIT:: I've just done my first ever EV training! I decided to have a new Milotic and train it to Lvl. 100 for Battle Tower and just my team, period. I've EV trained it in Special Attack and Speed, since it is a special sweeper. :D She's currently at Level 63, (Started at an egg) And soon she will be Level 100! :D
Fury October 15th, 2007, 4:06 pm I started playing Diamond Yesterday, and now I am nearly on to going to find where the third gym battle is.
I just have one question: Where do you get the Old Rod?
jammi567 October 15th, 2007, 7:12 pm In the gatehouse on the way to Route 218 (going from the west exit of Jublife city). Just to warn you, the only things that you can catch with it are Magicarp!
Question of my own: what kind of levels should i be before i meet the Elite 4 (currently travelling through Victory Road).
Mystic_Robin October 15th, 2007, 11:41 pm Pokemon games are great! :D
I like the old ones the best, Pokemon Yellow was my favorite but I lost it =[
Right now I'm playing Pearl, I'm stuck just before the elite, My Pokemon are too weak so I need to train them up, anyone know any good places where I could train them? =/
WitchHunter October 16th, 2007, 1:48 am I used to play these games all the time, but lately all I've done is play around with the glitches and unused items in the Red and Blue games. Its amazing how many glitches there were and nobody really seemed to notice until well after the games' popularity had passed.

I haven't played any of the newer games, but in the first two generations it was a good idea to be between level 40 and 50. It could be different now, though.

I know! I loved the Missingno. Glitches; the one where you could multiply items and the one were you could catch high level pokemon on cinnibar island. xD
I also used to play around with the Mew glitch; I'd leave a bunch of trainers un battled, so I could get other pokemon besides Mew thru that glitch. I got quite a few pokemon that way that you couldn't normally catch in Red. :p
Oh, and uh, I agree with the levels for Elite four. If you want it to be even less of a challenge, I'd suggest getting at least your best pokemon to level 60. But that's usually for the obsessed people. xD
Fury October 16th, 2007, 4:10 pm One more question! I beat the fourth and fifth gym and I swear I CANNOT find Defog! I know someone gives it to me... and I should have got it already, but I have traveled through the Marshes alot! Where is this thing?!
jammi567 October 16th, 2007, 6:01 pm I had exactly the same problem as you, until i found the answer - talk to the first person on the right as you enter the park itself (ie. after paying the $500).
Fought Aaron of the Sonnh E4, and he kicked my rear end so hard, it wasn't funny. And i was using a fire pokemon!
And another thing that happened today. I managed to (barely) get through Victory Road. As you enter, there's this guy blocking the door to the E4 (until he checks your badges). So i thought that i would talk to him now, so i don't have to worry about it later. And my rival turns up, demanding to fight me! ***?! So, natually, i lost, and i had to redo the whole last bit of the Road again. I healed before i talked to him.
Fury October 17th, 2007, 5:33 pm I had exactly the same problem as you, until i found the answer - talk to the first person on the right as you enter the park itself (ie. after paying the $500).
Yeah, I found him last night after realizing where he could possibly be.
Well, I will say this... I am farther in the game than my bro got... he couldn't get to the top of Mt. Coronet, so he gave up. And I passed him last night and caught the pokemon on the cover of the game.
Now I am in Sunnyshore, training for the gym. I can't wait to get to that island up north of Sunnyshore... some of the places sound SOOO Promising!
jammi567 October 17th, 2007, 9:18 pm You have to get the National Dex first though.
Progress update: Trained my fire pokemon (can't remember the name - the fire pokemon you can get at the beginning of the game), and kicked Aaron's rear end right back. And Betha's. And Flint's. And then i'm probally going to lose, and have to do more monotonus training of my pokemon, so that they're higher levels.

Infernape? (Extreme evolution from Chimchar). Man, I feel so left out right now that I don't have Diamond or Pearl yet.. Well I'm asking for a DS lite for christmas, and if I get one I'll buy myself Diamond, probably, because I like Dialga.
By the way guys, I've been using this awesome Pokemon site -- Click Here (http://www.psypokes.com/index.php) if you are interested. It has an AWESOME pokedex (It has everything to Evolution lines to Gender ratios to breeding info, to moves it can learn, etc... Awesome stuff!) and Awesome information from all the games.
So those of you who play Sapphire/Ruby/Emerald, what do you think of Pokemon contests? I like them, so far I've only gotten two paintings in the museum in Lilycove but I've only tried for those two so far. I'm now at Hyper Rank with my Milotic in Beauty contests, trying to beat out that stupid Altaria that keeps using Hyper beam and scaring my pokemon....:grumble:
Also, are there pokemon contests in Pearl/Diamond?
Israely_Wizard October 18th, 2007, 4:03 am There is, but only in Hearthome City.
If we're giving out cool Pokemon sites, check this one out: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Main_Page
It's called Bulbapedia; it's a wiki-based site that belongs to Bulbasaurs' Garden. And it doesn't have info just on the games, it has info on the Anime, Manga, world, and everything there is to know about Pokemon.
It also has branch-sites for German, French, Japanese and Polish speaking countrys.

I loved them as well -- it was lot harder to train a team of Pokémon in Red and Blue :p -- I was lucky to get a good team up to around lv. 40 or so without having to result to using that glitch in order to help train up my team, fighting against those high level Pokémon. Anyone remember those lv. 255 Pokémon that you could run into there?

Yeah, I been reading the Walkthrough... which is very helpful!
I have been training my Pokemon lately... using the Vs. Seeker everywhere I go, so I can get battles. my pokemon are only level 47 and 48 and I know it won't be even enough to survive some of the trainers in Victory road! So I go only a few steps into Victory road, and I am already annoyed with the OVERPOWERING wild Pokemon... I put up my Gravveler, hoping to run into Golbat, cause my rock moves can get them out. I run into Machoke... I put up other pokemon, I run into Golbat. Though I will say this... Golbat is still UTTERLY ANNOYING! I run into them alot.
I use my EXP Share all the time, switching back and forth between Pokemon... my Gravveler and Machoke are always the hardest to put up with them. My Kadabra is the easiest, cause he was a traded Pokemon :D.
And looking through the Walkthrough, I am amazed to see how many different Pokemon there are in the island above Sunnyshore... So many old Pokemon that I definitely hoped was on the game.

That IS annoying. That's why I stock up on Repels... And more repels... And more repels...
I'm sitting here wishing I could get an Ampharos on my Sapphire.. Ampharos is one of my best pokemon in Gold, and I'd have to say I think it is THE best Electric pokemon in the series. My Ampharos in Gold is Lvl. 75, trained from a level 7 (I think) Mareep.

I LOVED Ampharos! I would, without objection, use mareep every single time I played Gold.
Now it is funny, cause I have no Fire Pokemon with me, haven't used one... and the only pokemon with me with Electric moves is Kadabra!
Also the other thing that irritates me is the PP stuff. I HATE IT!!!

Oh you mean how you can be half-way through a cave or something fighting trainers and things and you run out of PP? That is annoying as well. That's why whatever Elixers and stuff like that I find, I save for the Elite Four first couple times around. It really helps.
I love fire pokemon. I know, everyone does, but in Sapphire for example, Blaziken really is the strongest. Sceptile is pathetic, and I know because the first time I played the game I chose Treeko because Venusaur (the grass starter) used to be my favorite in Red. (Charizard was tied with him, though...) I've never been much of a water pokemon fan. My favorite water pokemon in Gold is Quagsire though, he knows surf, so since that's the most powerful water move out there...He's pretty awesome. I'm also training my Snorlax in Gold to get to around Lvl 75. I finally beat RED in Gold at Mt. Silver, so that was cool. I still haven't caught Ho-oh. I should soon. But I'm having problems catching him, and I don't want to use my Master Ball on him, I don't think.
jammi567 October 18th, 2007, 7:25 pm The thing that clinched Mareep for me was the fact that it's the only electric type pokemon that you can get in the game for a long while (until you reach Route 38/39 and catch Magmanite). And i really couldn't be bothered to wait that long without one.
Fire pokemon really are the best starters to have in the whole series of games (except for the original Red/Blue, where Bulbasaur ruled supreame, at least for me).
I like the fact that the later you go into the generation, the more things there are to do after beating the E4. Because in the original games, i could see no point whatsoever in training my pokemon all the way to level 100. But now, there are impuses to train you pokemon hard (world wide comptutive battling, thanks to the Wi-Fi).
Shockingly, i've had the original games since they came out in Europe, and until the beginning of this year, i never realized that there were any glitches in it. The things i've been missing out on ehhh...
Fury October 19th, 2007, 4:15 pm My favorite water pokemon in Gold is Quagsire though, he knows surf, so since that's the most powerful water move out there...He's pretty awesome.
Other than the fact the practically any pokemon at reasonable level with a grass type move could practically OWN a Quagsire!
Well, I nearly panicked last night and today while playing Diamond. I got through the Elite 4, but oh my goodness was it tough!!! The toughest I've ever seen. My best battle was the one with the ground Pokemon. I used Torterra... my best Pokemon right now, and his Razor Leaf (which I keep cause it rules double battles), owned them!
Oh, and I beat the Elite 4 and Champion while my best pokemon were levels 51-53 :D.
But to the part where I nearly panicked... I was almost about to give up. I had one Pokemon to find to get the National Dex... already had found the picture of the Rare Pokemon we can't find... and I had the Balloon Pokemon to go (the pre-evolved form of Dirgiblim, or whatever it is called) and BY LUCK (Luck, nothing else!) I went to the part with the windmills, and he was standing there! So I fought him and caught him. I have the National Dex.
I beat my first round of seven in Battle Tower earning 3 Battle Points... and right now I am in the part of the Victory road we can only go in when we get either past the E4 or get the National Dex, I dunno which. I am currently helping the one guy get through and he is really NOT HELPING me in Double battles. Even though he has a super-cool Arcanine :D.
jammi567 October 19th, 2007, 4:46 pm How did you manage to get pass the guy with the Psycic pokemon? Because he totally owns me at the minute, and i'm the same levels as you are.
Fury October 19th, 2007, 4:51 pm How did you manage to get pass the guy with the Psycic pokemon? Because he totally owns me at the minute, and i'm the same levels as you are.
Luck... sheer luck. I was down to one Pokemon, and I was able to get the last move off first. I nearly lost the whole thing right there!
griffiegrrl October 20th, 2007, 2:07 am Other than the fact the practically any pokemon at reasonable level with a grass type move could practically OWN a Quagsire!
Well, yeah. I just meant he was servicable for water pokemon purposes. And at least he's Immune to electric attacks thanks to his half-ground type.;)
I am currently breeding massively on my Gold pokemon game; I am breeding my eevee with a ditto to produce more eevee's (I want to collect the whole Eevee evolution line )
Aand I am making another cyndaquil the same way. I like to have copies of my starters to trade.

Haha I miss having Dittos. I always use to use them for that reason. It makes me want to bring my Silver version out again actually. I am fairly sure I had all the Eevee evolutions (my favourite was Umbreon) and I was pretty close to having all the Pokemon, I think. I haven't played it in years!
Israely_Wizard October 21st, 2007, 2:36 pm Dittos' are good to get all the "Hitmon" Pokemon too; you know, the Evolutions of Tyrouge. 'Course, it's harder to train Tyrouges' to Evolve into a specific (sp?) Pokemon then Eevee. It's all because of that stupid Stats thing; In Leaf Green, I had to release about 2 Hitmonlee's to get a Hitmontop.
Reader October 21st, 2007, 6:47 pm I love Pokemon games. I have Emerald for Gameboy advance.
We're getting a DS really soon though. I can't wait to play Diamond. Pokemon games are awesome!
Although, the breeding is really weird. But helpful!
griffiegrrl October 23rd, 2007, 5:03 pm Yeah, Dittos are great for the Hitmons. :tu:
jammi567 October 23rd, 2007, 8:24 pm This might appear to be a random question, but trust me, it's not.
When you have to level your pokemon up a lot, what do you do to entertain yourselves, and make it less boring?
LovelyLuna October 23rd, 2007, 9:07 pm Oh my goodness! I still play these games time to time. I was one of the kids hit by the Pokemon wave!
I was obsessed and had stuffed animals, all the games, videos, cards, etc.
I still like Red and Blue most however. Recently I found out how to get Mew without a gameshark and that was like a childhood dream come true. Once in a while my lover and I fire up sapphire and ruby so we can start over together and trade/battle. I don't think I'll ever get sick of the franchise. I still haven't played diamond and pearl despite having a DSlite. So, I still have something to explore!
My favorite Pokemon ever is Vaporeon.^_^

To answer your question, I listen to my MP3 player -- usually to some dance / trance or upbeat music. Japanese music is a bonus. :3.
I tried watching TV before, but that never worked very well. So, for me, it's listening to my ipod.
Raven_Girly October 28th, 2007, 1:14 am When you have to level your pokemon up a lot, what do you do to entertain yourselves, and make it less boring?
I'll usually be doing something else at the same time such as listening to music or watching TV. A lot of the time, battles only require you to keep pressing the A button and checking on it ocassionally anyway.

Speaking of Levelling up, I finally last night got my First Ev trained Pokemon (Milotic) from Lvl. 5 to Lvl. 100! Yay.

Thanks guys.
I never used to have the patience either, but that's why it's taken me a couple weeks; I'd level it up about 4 - 8 levels then quit for a day or so. :p
Any suggestion for a new pokemon for me to EV train and level to 100? I have pokemon Sapphire, so keep that in mind when suggesting pokemon. Man, I SO wish I could get an Ampharos on here...

Wow :wow: -- that would take forever. I trained up some of my guys to a decent level before, but not all the way up to lv 100, without the use of Rare Candies (not all of the time, just part of it ).
Bagon, raise it and train it to a Salamance and work on getting it to lv. 100
Torchic, raise it and train it to a Blaziken and work on getting it to lv. 100
Electrike, raise it and train it to a Manectric and work on getting it to lv. 100
Beldum, raise it and train it to a Metagross and work on getting it to lv. 100
Carvanha, raise it and train it to a Sharpedo and work on getting it to lv. 100
Hope this helps ya' out :).

You're welcome :)!
FreeTheElves November 2nd, 2007, 2:06 am I played these avidly a while ago. My first Pokemon game was Pokemon Silver. That was when I took tennis lessons, my tennis teacher said he'd by me a video game if I could manage to return twn balls in a row with a backhand (god I suck at backhands). I did it, and he got me Silver :D. I got stuck on Pearl though, I can't get past that stupid ghost gym, cos I got a Torterra and that stupid first pokemon that the leader has is fire and ghost...
griffiegrrl November 4th, 2007, 1:27 am So, those of you frequenting this thread that has played the earlier Pokemon games AND Diamond or Pearl, what is there in the new Pokemon games that made you go "AWESOME!"? What is there for me to look foward to when I finally get the game? I'd like to know personal opinions rather than official reviews. What is back in Pearl and Diamond from the previous games?

The Underground -- for one thing :D -- I have a blast digging up hidden treasure and jewels down there!! Also, seeing the new Pokémon, the graphics (although, they could have been better, but meh -- they're better than nothing :)), the improved battling system, facing off against new gym trainers, exploring a new land. Getting to face off against a new Elite 4, going onto Wi-fi to trade with other trainers around the globe, and much, much more :).
You still get to battle in Battle Tower, the HM's are pretty much the same, only Dive isn't in this game, sadly :(. Also, after beating the game -- you can unlock Pal Park, which lets you trade up to 6 Pokémon a day from any of your GBA Pokémon games (I wish that they would let me trade more though -- since I have a ball recatching my Pokémon in Pal Park :D).
I like the new control setup in D/P -- using the stylus for battles and that kind of thing gets to be rather fluid and natural after a little while. It only took me some time to get used to the new control set up.
jammi567 November 4th, 2007, 2:24 pm Actually, that's reminded of something: How do you actually get to the Underround?

I've heard the Underground is a blast. I'm glad to hear that the change of controls is easy to get used to; when I saw Nintendo DS's set up, I was like -- Woah, where did those extra buttons come from?.
Fawkesfan1 November 4th, 2007, 5:35 pm Actually, that's reminded of something: How do you actually get to the Underround?
Here's a link with some information on how to get the Explore kit and use it to go to the Underground: http://www.serebii.net/diamondpearl/underground.shtml
Basically you can dig almost anywhere in D/P, with the exceptions of inside of buildings and on hard pieces of earth.
Hope that this helps you out :).

I love using the stylus too. It was weird at first but now I can't go on my DS without it. Whenever I try and play Red or Silver on the Game Boy Color, I just want to get out the stylus and start jabbing the screen
I don't like the Battle Tower much though. It seems rather dull compared to the Battle Frontier in Emerald (I still haven't got any of the gold symbols in that yet...I've got all the silver one's though)

Nice . I don't like it as well either, Emerald's battle frontier was refreshing. I still haven't beaten Pike Queen Lucy yet :grumble: :p -- her Milotic is a pain to get past.

Good luck with that :) -- it took me sometime to beat them. But once you finally do, it's worth it. Being able to go Battle Frontier is fun in itself .
kuroi_shi November 7th, 2007, 10:03 pm ... I've played, and beat every single pokemon game there is ^^;;
I've been playing Diamond obsessively for the past little while.. I'm trying to train up a super eevee team from level 1.. =D

She was the first one I beaten actually haha. I can't remember what I used because it was such a long time ago. I think I beaten Milotic with Gardevior. I Calm Minded up a bit while she kept using Mirror Coat and then I used Thunderbolt...I think it was a 2HKO I can't really remember...
Well fortunately I don't have Emerald so I haven't been spoiled by the battle frontier. :p
Emerald's good just for the cloning glitch hehe

Yea it is, I used that glitch quite a few times. It comes in handy when it's done right.

Oh there is a cloning glitch in Emerald? Awesome. I love pokemon game glitches. I would every once in a while have a 100% legitimate RED game, but then would go right back to Missingno. and Item duplication.
I wasn't really bent on getting Emerald because I had just gotten Sapphire; and I usually don't buy the "special edition" of each series (Yellow being the only exception). Also I wasn't too impressed with the Pokemon animations in Emerald, they looked a bit shotty.

Yep, kind of risky but it's worth it, since in Diamond and Pearl you can't trade back Pokémon that you trade to those games :grumble:.
Information on how to clone in Emerald (http://glitchcity.info/docs/emeraldcloning)
Be careful though, if you don't do it right, you can lose the Pokémon that your trying to clone. I had it happen to me once -- lost a shiny Hypno :( -- thank god I had a duplicate of it when it was a Drowzee.
I know, they could have done a better job on animating them... but the Battle Frontier kind of makes up for that weak spot :) - it's one the best parts of the game and a challenge to boot.

Ooh -- shiny Hypno. ;_;.
The only shiny I own (besides Gyrados that anyone can get in Gold&Silver) is a Shiny Butterfree in Gold, and I managed to get it in the bug catching contest! Woo, I was on my last ball too...
In my Sapphire game, I have NEVER gotten a shiny yet...The only time I saw one was when I restarted the game and was chasing the Poochyena off of Prof. Birch, and would you know that one pokemon you can't catch, that Poochyena was a shiny. ;o;

Nice -- lucky catch, I had a similar catch on my Silver version, caught a Entei in a Pokéball without weakening it, or using any status type move on it :).
Oh, that had to stink  -- since it seems to be harder to get shinies in the newer games.

Exactly -- Although I think the shiny ratio is the same (1 out of every 8192 wild pokemon encountered... ;_; ), It still has been forever since that Poochyena incident and no shiny's yet. I haven't even contracted Pokerus in my Sapphire yet. :grumble:

Same here, been trying to get a shiny Vulpix on my Emerald version and I'm having no luck whatsoever either . The only shiny that I got on that version was a Shiny Rayquaza, via soft-reset. It took me around 70 soft-resets or so just to run into him :). But it was worth the wait.
Hmm -- I never got it in that game myself, but I did get it from a Pokémon via wi-fi on Diamond version.

Cool. And.. Yay, Shiny Rayquaza! :3
So what are some pokemon you would love to get shiny of?
In my Sapphire game, I would love to get a Shiny...
Roselia
Lunatone (That eye is so awesome)
Skarmory
Latias (But unfortunately I already caught her -- and she's not a shiny.)
Vulpix/Ninetails
Zangoose (But you know, I'd have to trade for that one anyway..)

Mew
Ponyta
Nidoran Male and Female
Grimer
Ditto
Groudon (I was trying to get one on my Emerald, but the dang Pokémon was so stubborn :p -- it refused to become shiny even after around 70 soft-resets)
Voltorb

I'm not sure on that -- as far as I know, they can get the same stats that a regular Pokémon of that species would get. The only difference is in the difference in the sprite color.

Information on how to clone in Emerald (http://glitchcity.info/docs/emeraldcloning)
You'll only delete stuff if you deposit stuff after you've saved. Happened to me as well, I deleted my Alakazam and Blaziken, so I started the game over because I was so annoyed. Its a glitch in the saving I think. At the blank screen it sort of half saves, so it saves the Pokemon/Items in both places. Or in no place if you've moved them around at the wrong time...
My shinies: Silver
(Gyarados)
Rapidash (found)
2 Meowth's
Rapidash was the first shiny I ever found (except Gyarados) and I thought it was a glitch (I thought that Gyarados was the only one you could get in a different colour) I weakened it and went to catch it but...the box was full! Urgh, I hate the box system so much pre-3rd gen. I was so annoyed.
I actually caught the Meowth's one after the other. I went to the left of Ecruteak and found the first Meowth so I thought that maybe you could catch shiny Meowth all in that area (this was a long time after Rapidash) and weirdly enough, I found another shiny one straight after. I'd consider this really lucky if my Silver's internal batteries hadn't run dry...this is why I want a G/S remake for DS.
Leaf Green and Emerald:
Sableye
Metapod
Charmander
Unfortunatly I deleted my Sableye and Butterfree when I traded them to the same game and started a new game without thinking a few months after. So to make up for it I was determined to get another shiny so I resetted for a few hours to get Charmander. I then cloned it about 10 times, gave a few to my sister and traded some to Diamond. I haven't caught any shinies on Diamond though. My sister found a shiny Geodude in Pearl but it was when she was with that person in the Iron Cave and the Geodude used Self-Destruct XD
But aren't shiney's not supposed to get the maximum stats that the species can possibly get?
In GSC they had higher stats than usual, can't remember in what 2 stats though. But back then a shiny was determined by what their stats were. In the newer one's shinies stats are as random as any other.

I know, it sucked when it happened -- wish that they would remake G/S/C as well. Luckily, the batteries in my games still work -- how long they'll work, is anyones' guess... I'm just grateful that they still do :).

I bought a used copy of Gold a few months ago because I never had one before. THEN I found out about all the internal batteries running dry. Mine hasn't yet, but I hope it won't anytime soon. ;_;

I'm pretty sure it was a weaker pokemon in G/S/C, because I read somewhere that the shinyness was determined by low (Deter I think) values, and in the new versions Shinyness has it's own value and so doesn't detract from the stats.

Hope it doesn't -- I haven't played my games for quite some time, so I should have some juice left in them. I just play them every once in a blue moon, so I can see my favorite Pokémon that I've caught :).
All we can hope for, is that Nintendo and Game Freak to change their minds about not making a remake of those games... :).
We should bug them until they do  :p ...

Nice  -- anyhoo, If they did decide to make a remake of those games, what else would you like to see in it?
weasley November 12th, 2007, 9:36 pm I'm pretty sure it was a weaker pokemon in G/S/C, because I read somewhere that the shinyness was determined by low (Deter I think) values, and in the new versions Shinyness has it's own value and so doesn't detract from the stats.
I just found this
In Generation II, shininess is determined by the IVs of a Pokémon. If a Pokémon's Speed, Defense, and Special IVs are 10, and its Attack IV is 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11, 14 or 15, it will be shiny. This determination allowed for compatibility with Generation I, as if a shiny Pokémon is traded back, then traded forward, it would retain its shininess. Despite the compatibility allowing for shiny Pokémon to learn Generation I TMs, provided it was a Generation I Pokémon, shiny Pokémon are slightly above average in terms of IVs. from here http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Shiny
I know its a Wikipedia type thing but Bulbapedia is generally right
I'd like to see another extra island to go to for a Battle Frontier/contest etc. but what I'd also like is when you've defeated the league for the first time the levels go up because the E4 were so low levelled that it was a pain to level up. I mean seriously, the highest level was Lance's (hacked) level 50 Dragonite and the rest were low level 40's. DP's were high level 50 to high level 60 I think. The gym leaders were quite low levelled as well. The highest level of the first one was (again hacked lol) level 9 Pidgeotto while all of the other games had level 14s I think.
- To be able to rebattle the Johto and Kanto leaders like you could in Emerald.
- Be able to go to the Safari Zone. It was oringally planned to be in there, if you hack into the game somehow you can go there. But they decided to stop it and put a bug catching contest in instead.
- Make the routes longer. They are SO short in Johto.
- Better conclusion to the Team Rocket storyline. They kind of just gave up. "So he really is gone? Oh...well...goodbye then..."
I mean, there's quite a few hints that Silver (your rival) was Giovanni's son. He seems to particuarly hate Team Rocket but has the same attitudes as them like stealing, not caring about Pokemon and stuff and then in FR/LG there's a person who asks you if you're Giovanni's son (daughter if you're playing as the girl) but then remembers that he has red. And one of the few people that have red hair in the game is Silver.
- And I read on another forum and they said that Giovanni should've been champion instead of Lance. I thought that was a cool idea, that would've been a really good twist.
I like all the Johto hints that they've had in D/P. There's Jasmine, the person who talks about Prof Elm, other random references to Johto and even that SecretPotion that Cynthia gives you, the desciption says it came from the medicine shop in Cianwood City! I was really surprised that they remembered such a small detail. I completly forgot about the Jamine/SecretPotion thing in GSC.

Wow, those are some good ideas you have there, weasley! It would be really cool if some of those were implemented into a remake of the those games :).

Thanks for the bulbapedia info!
Here is some more info : http://www.psypokes.com/lab/dvguide.php
On here it says the the lower the Deter Value (also known as Individual Values) the weaker stat-wise it is. It matches up with what bulbapedia was saying. Because basically, if a pokemon had the IVs of what bulbapedia says, then it's IVs in those areas are in the lower end of the 0-31 range, meaning it's not as strong as it could be. (This is a really good website by the way, it's called Psy Poke. It's got lots of awesome information, too!) :)
I've only played thru Gold once, so I never picked up on the hints of your rival possibly being Giovanni's son. That's so cool.
I think the safari zone should be back as well.
I was also disappointed on how much they "chopped down" Kanto region for the game. I mean, Viridian Forest turned into Viridian bush patch. Hello? I mean that's just one small thing, but when I saw it I just had to roll my eyes so hard. Some of it is understandable, things would have changed in the years since RED was around.. But... Cinnabar island for example. That was one of my favorite towns. And then it was gone.
So overall I wish they would have more of Kanto back. Not everything the same as in RBY, but still a little more still in.

Same here -- it just wasn't the same playing through Fire Red version. I miss that town as well, they probably got rid of it due to the Missingno glitch.
That would be nice if they did that :). It would make the next game(s) much better.
griffiegrrl December 26th, 2007, 4:23 pm Good news! I got a Nintendo DS LITE for Christmas, (Crimson and Black ) And as soon as possible, I'm buying myself Pokemon Diamond (because I like Dialga ) with Christmas money!
EDIT::I bought Diamond today! (12/27) So....Very first impressions of Diamond!
PROS
* The Female Character is uber cute
* Being able to sign your name on your trainer card
* Updates to the Menus and things with all of the touch pad interaction.
* Poketch. ^_^
* SHINX! :love:
* Underground...Except I don't like all the boulders in my secret base. :(
* Being able to shine your gym badges
CONS
* I'm not sure I like it when your battling a main "boss" (such as Team Galactic's Mars or a Gym Leader) and the person jumps next to their pokemon and throws challenges in your face. It's novel I suppose, and perhaps more like a "real" battle would be, but I'm not used to it in a pokemon game.
----------
I have to say that the new graphics style took a while to get used to. But, I am pleased to say I have already gotten used to it!
I started off with Chimchar.
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, just a bit happy.
Fawkesfan1 December 28th, 2007, 7:55 pm That's cool, glad you like the game so far. :)
It took me some time to get used to the graphics in it as well.
griffiegrrl December 29th, 2007, 4:41 pm I'm not going to bother with it now, but after I beat the Elite 4 I am going to buy myself a Nintendo WiFi USB Connector (http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Wi-Fi-USB-Connector/dp/B000MXMNG4/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1198946836&sr=8-1), so I can trade with people around the world. (We don't have WiFi in our house.)
jammi567 December 29th, 2007, 10:41 pm I wish i could get one, but i already have enough cool stuff as it is for the minute.

I can totally understand that! After I buy myself that Connector, I'm finished getting myself stuff for awhile, even though there are quite a few games and things I'd like to get.

griffiegrrl January 6th, 2008, 2:21 pm I just beat the ELITE FOUR Last night! Woot! My highest level pokemon was level 56, too. Yay! Now I just have to wait until Friday to see a Drifloon so I can complete my Sinnoh dex and get my National one. ^_^
jammi567 January 6th, 2008, 9:03 pm Nice one! I've started my game again, to see if i can get a better variaty of Pokemon.
griffiegrrl January 7th, 2008, 1:40 pm That's cool. Did you get the game just when it came out?
So I've caught Uxie and Azelf, now I need to catch Mesprit. But I'm not worried about doing that yet. I've seen 149 pokemon, I just need to see Drifloon, which only comes out on Fridays. :grumble:
EDIT:: I just found out that I can change the date on my DS, so that it says Friday (then change it back) to see a Drifloon.. :p So now I've got my national dex!

i haven't had a chance to start my new game yet, but i will soon.
Rappy28 January 8th, 2008, 11:31 pm  Hey everyone. I'm a great Pokémon fan too when it comes to games, and it angers me when people say it's for kids, not a real game, etc... It's a very good RPG in my opinion.
I own Blue, Silver, Gold, Crystal, Sapphire, Fire Red and Diamond ; most of them in Japanese (except for Blue), because it doesn't bother me that much and I just can't wait. :p
I got all 150 Pokémon in Blue (yay for trading at school back in 5th grade ! :D) and 200 in Sapphire, but I'm really lazy for the rest. Especially with all the Colosseum/XD thingies... I never got around to playing them.
I put up a few videos on youtube... One where I was trying to catch Darkrai (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6k7fwNqXy88) with a friend, via the Elite 4 glitch (they removed it in other versions of the game I suppose...), and one where I beat Cynthia with a Gallade (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnBeQ_4dbFs).
...and no, I soooooooo didn't name my Gallade Barty, shut up. X(
To griffiegrrl : Good luck with Mesprit ! Unfortunately, there's another legendary you'll have to catch like this...
So do I :( -- and they're making a mistake by not doing so, considering the batteries in a lot of the games (Gold, Silver and Crystal) are dying.
Reading this made me sad because it's true ; I discovered a year ago that my Silver battery had died out. It was the Pokémon game I spent the most time on... Experimenting with the Action Replay...
LeGoogelGuRu January 9th, 2008, 12:01 am I really enjoy the Pokemon games, especially the earlier ones like Red/Blue, Yellow, Gold/Silver and Sapphire/Ruby. Diamond was great too.

I agree! I feel embarrassed to tell other people who don't play Pokémon that I do, sometimes...But I've told many: Don't knock 'em till you've tried 'em! (Or caught 'em.... :p)
I've managed to get 132 on my Sapphire I think, with some trading... I never do much trading.. And now that I've got Diamond, I'm migrating my Pokémon from Sapphire to Diamond and starting my Sapphire over again... It will be the third time. I supposed I'll start with a mudkip this time, since the first time I had a treeko (Weakest starter ever!) and the last time I had torchic.
I've caught Mesprit and Cresselia... Using my Level 40 Wobbuffet...Since it's Ability is Shadow Tag, which meant they couldn't run away. It only took me about 25 balls to catch Cresselia, but I literally went through 82 balls on Mesprit... I was down to 23 pokeballs and 8 Repeat balls... Would you know I caught it with a repeat ball?! I looked at it's stats after I caught it, and Mesprit was down to 3 moves left...
I've unlocked Regigigas, but I've had enough trying to catch ubers for a little while.. I'll catch him later. :p
Do any of you know if you can talk to a merchant 32 times underground to get Spiritomb, or do you have to talk to other players you are communicating with wirelessly?

Other players, I heard. That means that people who play it illegal using an emulator can't get all the Pokemon of this generation, even with cheats. ()

That means I can't get Spiritomb, though... Unless I end up trading for it, because I have nobody in my general area that plays pokemon that I could go underground with.

I know how that is. I had to get one on GTS, due to that, but they are breedable :).
weasley January 12th, 2008, 10:58 pm You can talk to the same person 32 times but you have to go up then back down for it to count as another person. That's what I did with my sister haha.
Oh yeah, there was a big hype about something happening today (12th) if you played on D/P because it was someone's birthday who made the games or something and they put on their blog something would happen...but it was really funny because loads of people made a big deal out of it and it was just glitter dust snow type thing in Snowpoint City XD

My Silver died about a year ago, too...shame because it has some of my favourite music on it. So I like replaying it sometimes to see how far I can get in one go

I'm going to as well -- as soon as we get our wireless hooked up.
By the way -- to those who said they thought it was too much required before you got to migrate your pokemon -- this is MHO, but I don't think so. All you have to do is beat the Elite four and get your National Dex, which isn't hard, and you get that by playing through the game. But I do think it stinks that you have to have seen a pokemon to trade for it in GTS. (I heard that somewhere.. That is correct, isn't it?)

Yea I know, it's pretty easy.
I hate that as well. Especially with the rare Pokémon like Celebi . Yep, sadly that's true :grumble:.
Rappy28 January 14th, 2008, 5:03 pm Yeah, well it would be too easy if you could get all kinds of legendaries on the GTS... :p
Even then, most of the time people put up a crappy Pokémon in exchange for a Dialga or Palkia... So I managed to trade a few rare Pokémon I wouldn't level (like Magmortar) for a few Palkias, the unofficial "GTS currency".
It's still a very nice thing when you want Pokémon you've only seen. Or even just Pokémon that bore you and whom you want to level up faster. The traded Exp bonus is really nice.
I found a way to sort of work around the "seen Pokémon only" rule, though it would only work with evolving Pokémon.
For example, I hadn't seen Cradily, though I personally had a lvl 40 Armaldo I got from my Sapphire game. So I put it up for trade on the GTS, in exchange for a level 40+ Lileep. Fair trade, so I got my lvl 40 Lileep almost instantly. And I had to train it only for one level in order to get Cradily (because god knows leveling up fossile Pokémon bores me, and Lileep/Cradily is the most boring of the lot in my opinion).
It would have been even better if I had put up a level 39-40 Anorith... this way the person would have got easily both Anorith and Armaldo in his/her Pokédex. :)

Nice I do that as well :). My best trade that I got was a level 100 Celebi (Japanese), it was hacked (and I don't use it in battles) but I didn't mind though, it was kind of funny seeing that people in other countries did that as well . Not that I promote that kind of thing though :p. My other best trade that I got was a Manaphy I got from another person on GTS, it was one from Pokémon Ranger and it has good stats as well :).

How did you get Celebi and Manaphy if you hadn't seen them before? Or rather, how did you see them before without having owned them previously?
By the way, wish me luck! I'm going shiny hunting with my Pokeradar --- I've heard it's easier to get shinys that way if you've got a good chain going. So far my biggest chain has been 18 -- and I'm trying to get to around 40.
This is coming from the girl who has never caught a shiny in the the advance generations. I caught a Butterfree on Gold, but since it has lower DVS it's not worth much except to look pretty. (I did see a shiny Poochyena in the beginning of my second Sapphire restart -- but of COURSE it was the poochyena on Prof. Birch that you HAVE to faint, so I killed it in agony.
weasley January 14th, 2008, 10:36 pm The biggest chain I've had is only about 16 and that was with a swarm as well XD I was chaining Electrike and had a Pokemon with Static at front (which apparently makes Electric types more likley to appear). I don't have the patience for chaining haha

I had one that a friend got me via AR and as for the Manaphy I faced off against a friend of mine who had one and then we traded for a second so it would show up on my dex, and then I traded it back. I was lucky enough to get the Manaphy that I still have the same day :).
Good luck, by the way, that's the most that I've gotten in a chain as well . I stink at it :p. And sadly I haven't run into any shinys in my Diamond version yet :(.
griffiegrrl January 15th, 2008, 9:42 pm Hey, if you guys are interested in getting better at pokeradar chaining, here is a good video that I've watched:
dkeKPlBYYbs
From Shuko.
And here are her tips plus a few more of hers from a forum
(which I won't link to because I'm not sure it's entirely family-friendly):
Shiny Pokemon with the Pokeradar
There is a lot of dispute going around as to whether or not this method works. I believe it does, because most people who get a high enough chain and catch a shiny are able to keep the chain going, and catch more shinies within only a few minutes of each other. For that reason, I think it deserves its own topic.
First off, I'll assume that you know what both shinies and the Pokeradar are. If not, I'd suggest not reading this, as it'll only confuse you.
Second, I'd like to begin by letting you know a few things you'll need to begin this method. Be sure to have the following:
1. The Pokeradar.
2. Pokeballs (to catch the shiny with, of course)
3. LOTS of max/super repels. You'll need to buy a lot of these, hundreds in some cases. I'd suggest fighting the Socialite and Gentleman on Rt. 212 with the Vs. Seeker and an amulet coin until you have enough for some good repels. You're gonna need them!
4. A strong, high-level Pokemon with enough PP in high power moves to take out a bunch of Pokemon in one blow. You'll want to specialize this in some cases, depending on which Pokemon you'll be chaining.
5. A Pokemon that can whittle your shiny's health down for catching. Obviously, this is optional, but very helpful if you're not swimming in master balls.
6. PP Restoring items. (I prefer leppa berries, as they're easy to find).
Now that we know what we'll need, let's get started! The first thing you'll want to do is go to Sandgem town and find out from Dawn's/Lucas's sister what Pokemon are swarming that day (if you want to chain a swarming pokemon).
Once you know where the swarm is, go to that route, and find an ideal place to begin chaining. (If you don't want to chain a swarmer, go to where the pokemon you DO want to chain is located :p) An ideal spot is one where the grass nearly covers the screen. Once you're there, save the game.
Now, I'm going to introduce you to a method known as "chaining." Chaining is a process by which you "chain" multiples of the same species of Pokemon one after another by using the Pokeradar. When done correctly, you can get dozens of these things in a row, and an added bonus to doing so is that it boosts your chances at finding a shiny Pokemon dramatically.
So first, use a max repel, and then use your radar. Notice all the wiggling patches of grass? I tend to go for the ones that aren't sparkling, as they're harder to confuse with others.
Now it's time to let you know about the "Rules of Chaining."
---------------------------------------------------------
Rule 1:
Only choose a patch of grass if there are FOUR patches shaking. The reason for this is that if you don't see a fourth one, it might be hiding somewhere else, and it could be the one you were supposed to go to instead.
**Rule 2:
After the first patch you choose, all subsequent patches MUST shake in the same way. Choose any others, and you'll break your chain.
*Rule 3:
Never choose a patch of grass that forces you out of the radar's range.
(The range is dictated by whether or not you can see at least one of the patches of grass that wiggled.)
Rule 4:
ONLY choose a patch of grass that's farthest from you, and is at least four patches away.
Rule 5:
Never choose a patch of grass that's more than seven steps away. That's the steps you have to walk, by the way, by taking the shortest route. This is not a calculated distance; it's one you can count by actually walking it. (Someone in here warned us about this, but I can't track him down. If anyone can tell me who, I'd appreciate it; I need to credit him. Anyway, it's turned out to be true for me every time I tried it. If anyone can get it to not happen this way, I'll need to know that too. :p)
Rule 6:
NEVER choose a patch of grass that occurs on corners or edges. The fewer empty grass spots that surround your chosen patch, the greater its chance of breaking the chain.
Rule 7:
Avoid patches of grass if they are right beside other moving patches. See rule 5 for the same reason. ;)
Rule 8:
When in doubt, reset the radar and try again.
Rule 9:
If you see a patch of grass that sparkles twice dramatically, and seems to have a differently colored hue, it's a shiny Pokemon. Proceed there with caution!
*Rule 10:
Never run away from the Pokemon, and never let it flee either.
*Rule 11:
Never use your bike.
---------------------------------------------------------
It's a lot to remember, but in time, it'll become second nature. Now, I should address one more thing before moving onto the tips and tricks. Resetting the radar.
Here's how you do it. The Pokeradar needs to recharge after every fifty steps. If you come across a set of wiggling grass that doesn't go by the rules, walk fifty steps in non-wiggling grass (taking care to stay in the radar's range), and use the radar again. This will not break your chain, so long as you are in range when you use the radar again. And believe me when I say this: you'll be doing a lot more resetting than running into Pokemon.
So now you have the basics. Is there anything else you should consider? Of course! Here are a few tips and tricks you might want to keep in mind before you begin:
1. Swarming Pokemon make easy chains. Swarming Pokemon, and also any other pokemon that are common in an area seem to be easier to keep the chain going. This may or may not be true, but It seems so in my experience.
2. Never enter the grass directly behind your character. Unfortunately, this grass is mostly hidden from view, and if it wiggles, you'll be hard pressed to see it. I make it a point never to enter this grass unless I can see all four of the wiggling grasses elsewhere.
3. It's good to have a Pokemon that knows super fang or false swipe in your team. They'll help make the Pokemon easier to catch. Any immobilizing statuses like sleep or paralysis are good too.
4. If you're hunting an electric Pokemon, put a Pokemon with static at the head of your party. This'll help ensure even more that you'll run into your chosen Pokemon (or so it is believed).
5. App. No. 20, the Pokeradar App, is very helpful. It will tell you how many pokemon you've chained, as well as your longest chains so far. This'll help you determine when you're ready to start resetting for shinies.
6. Register the Pokeradar. This'll help you out a lot.
7. Put your repels at the top of your item list.
8. At some point, stop chaining and start resetting. Most people say 40 is a safe number to start resetting, but as long as you have enough patience and repels, even 20 could work. It's all a matter of how far you're willing to go to raise your chances. A chain can break for seemingly no reason at all sometimes. It's best to be extremely cautious.
9. If you need a break, take one! But make sure you'll know where you are when you come back. I find it best to take breaks in the middle of a battle, or right before I reset the Pokeradar. But whatever works for you. Real time won't affect your chain, so take all the breaks you need. Just be sure to plug your DS in if you need to leave it on for a while, and putting it in sleep mode won't hurt either.
And that's it! If you stick at it, you too should notice results. I've only been doing it for five days, and I already have five shinies to show for it!
* These rules, if broken, break your chain ALWAYS.
** I have seen it happen sometimes where your chain can "shift grass types." What I mean is, I may start out with non-glittery grass, then all of the sudden, the chain will shift to glittery grass, and it's all that appears. I've had chains successfully shift to the new type of grass and keep going. Be extra cautious if you suspect this has happened.
Hope it helps, and let me know if you guys get past your records! I'm currently trying to catch either whats swarming that day or Shinx shiny. My record is still 18 because I haven't tried again yet. I will later, though.
Also, just thought I'd add this, I read on the afore-mentioned forum:
The probability of randomly finding a shiny is 1/8192. Once you have chained to 40, it's 1/200, or a 1/50 chance of seeing a shiny patch assuming you are standing in a spot that guarantees you seeing all 4 patches shake on each reset.
Fawkesfan1 January 16th, 2008, 2:59 am Cool, thanks griffiegrrl :). I'll check it out when I get the chance to.

Chaining Check! My highest now is a chain of 28 on Gastlys....I want a shiny Gastly! :p
Woot!
Congrats, good luck on getting that shiny Gastly!
Edit: Also, just got done watching the Pokémon chaining help video. It was very helpful :).
Rappy28 January 16th, 2008, 6:48 pm Haha, I've never seen a single shiny in my entire life... well, save for that Gyarados of course. I DID try to get a shiny Giratina by turning on and off my DS, but I quickly gave up. I just don't have any kind of patience. :D
Oh yeah, and that shiny Bagon I once saw on GTS, named Yoshi. The owner asked for something outrageous in exchange, naturally.

Yea know how that is, I saw a Shiny Suicune that I wanted on there but they wanted a lv. 5 and under Mew for it :grumble: :p. It was very annoying... I wanted that Suicune so badly.
griffiegrrl January 17th, 2008, 6:18 pm Current Chaining Record... 30! Getting closer to 40, but I am getting frustrated...Grr..
Fawkesfan1 January 18th, 2008, 2:41 pm  Yahoo, only 10 more to go!!
You can do it! :)
griffiegrrl January 20th, 2008, 5:22 pm Well, guess what!
My biggest chain is... 49!!!
Say hello to my new and first shinies in Pokemon Diamond:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v469/griffiegrrll/092.png http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v469/griffiegrrll/092.png
Kamen (Male) and Sass (Female)!
Both are level 16. I'm going to train and evolve Kamen, but keep Sass the way she is.
YAY!!! I am so stoked. I was at 30 and saying, PLEASE, we're almost there, PLEASE....It took me 27 repels at a chain of 40 to get Kamen, and then I decided to chain a little more for the heck of it, and made it to 49 and got Sass.!

griffiegrrl January 22nd, 2008, 3:18 pm Thanks guys! I'm not going to chain for a while now... Taking a break... It was worth the aggravation, but I need a break! Right now I'm battle towering to get enough BP to buy the Power items so I can EV train.

You're welcome :), I don't blame ya', chaining can take alot out of you . Cool, good luck on that!
Schlubalybub January 24th, 2008, 3:16 pm I'm playing Emerald at the moment- I'm rubbish at it, and end up switching the thing off every time I lose a battle.
Fawkesfan1 January 26th, 2008, 5:44 pm I just moved my chaining record up to 23... Bidoofs that is :sigh:. Everything else that I try to chain, end up being stopped at around 6 :grumble:.
@ Schlub: Don't give up, just keep on battling and you'll get better at it as you go along :). It took me awhile to get the hang of it when I played Red and Blue for the first time.

Yahoo! Chaining is addictive, albeit very frustrating. Have you tried chaining whatever is swarming for the day? It made it easier for me.
Same Here, Schlub. I was horrible at first. But once you get the hang of it it's a lot better.
jammi567 February 4th, 2008, 6:43 pm Sorry that i haven't posted in this thread for ages, but i haven't had the chance to play any of the games recently.
On a slightly more relevent note, check out this glitched speed run (http://uk.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=96B3CA9820C41D06). Complete the whole game in 1 hour, 26 minutes!.
Here's the first part:

Yes it is -- I tried that, and it didn't work out that way for me ... also on a sad note, my Ds's battery died, after 2 years... so now I 'll have to buy a new battery.
My Ds's buttons and touch screen weren't responding, so I figured that the battery was on it's last legs :(.
It'll be sometime though before I can get a new one though :sigh:.

Oh no! I hope mine doesn't die in 2 years. o-O Do you have a DS or a DS lite?
Fawkesfan1 February 11th, 2008, 4:44 pm Oh no! I hope mine doesn't die in 2 years. o-O Do you have a DS or a DS lite?
I know. I have a DS and supposedly the battery in those last longer than in the DS lite.
It stinks too since I don't live anywhere near a Nintendo World store in order to just go out and by one. So I'll have to do it over the net -- hopefully they accept money orders, since I don't plan on ever getting a credit card.
Rather stupid in a way, that they don't sell the batteries themselves for both the DS and DS lite (they run on two different batteries  ) in stores themselves...

I agree -- that would make life a whole lot easier!
I have a question for you all; do you use screen protectors or not?
Me, I'm thinking of using them on the touch screen because even though I've been super careful to wipe off any dust on the screen before using it, there are a couple of very small (and while actually playing the ds unnoticeable) scratches on it already, and I don't want to ruin it.
I assume the screen protectors would er, um.. Protect it from such scratches but not ruin the sensitivity of the touch screen.

I do, but before my battery ran out -- my touch screen worked just fine. I use a Pelican one, one for the top screen and one for the bottom one.
Yep it would.
griffiegrrl February 13th, 2008, 4:13 pm Good, then I think I'll refrain from playing it until I can get to the store to buy some. I really don't want anymore scratches... My house is a dust magnet, so I constantly have to wipe off the dust off the screen.
Fawkesfan1 February 13th, 2008, 6:25 pm Same with my own  -- I could start a dust collection due to all of it that collects ... As for playing my own DS, I'll be refraining from that for quite sometime due to the dang battery :p.
BenGerman March 18th, 2008, 6:36 pm got the game in my hand right now while I'm typing, i just broke it out after like a year of it being in my closet.

Nice! Which version?
TonkstheJEDI April 28th, 2008, 10:35 pm I looove Pokemon! I've been playing it since the very beginning and I have all the games.... Right now I'm trying to EV train a team on Diamond for Battle Revolution! But EV training is sooo tedious.... eww :)

Ah well good luck on that :). I don't even really do that too much myself... it takes too long to do. Plus I don't have as much time to play the game anymore.
Lil_G135 April 29th, 2008, 7:50 am Ah, Pokemon. I've been playing since Yellow came out. I'd like to get Diamond one day, but I need a DS first (darn my brokeness u_u) I was thinking of getting a custom one one day since the black and crimson ones are being discontinued and I really really want a green and black one anyway.. has anyone ever ordered from Colorware before?
Anyway, I just found my Leaf Green and found out I didn't finish filling the pokedex. I remember borrowing my friend's Fire Red and getting all that version's game exclusive but then I sort of just stopped there. Guess that's something to do while I am DS-less ^^;
griffiegrrl May 7th, 2008, 12:54 pm Green and Black, sweet! I have a Red/Black, but my favorite color is green.
Good luck filling out the pokedex....I've never completely filled one before.
Raven_Girly May 7th, 2008, 1:30 pm Good luck filling out the pokedex....I've never completely filled one before.
I completed mine in Ruby (apart from any secret special edition Pokemon or whatever). I usually lose interest before I get that far though.
weasley May 11th, 2008, 10:19 pm Anyone else hear about the Pokemon Platinum rumours?
Corocoro scan
http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll117/LucarioShaymin/ASFH.png
Apparently
- Giratina on the box
- There's going to be a Battle Frontier like place
- New Pokemon "forms" - "Giratina's Origin Form, Regigigas' Sky Form, Shaymin's Another Form"
- Volkner no longer gym leader of Sunyshore City
- The Underground is now Wi-Fi enabled
This is all rumour, but it's interesting anyway
http://purenintendo.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/patpok.jpg
I want to see pictures of the new outfits Dawn and whoever wear (they had different outfits in Emerald)
Fawkesfan1 May 11th, 2008, 10:54 pm I've heard about this on another forum. Sounds interesting... and I look forward to this game coming out :).
griffiegrrl May 18th, 2008, 2:42 am When/If it comes out, I want to get it...I regretted not getting Emerald (my reason was it was the same game and I'd just gotten Sapphire...I STILL want to get emerald, too)..
Especially if the Underground is WIFI enabled!

Yea, same here... but I'm willing to bet that the Underground will be based on Friend Codes, not that I mind, due to hackers and that kind of thing. But they should have set up a way to make it easier for gamers to play with other gamers too.
Israely_Wizard May 18th, 2008, 2:43 pm Dudes, the Platinum rumors are not rumors anymore, check it out:
http://www.pokemon.co.jp/special/platinum/02.html
It may be in Japanese, but it has great screenshots, and as you can see, the version mascot is Giratina.
griffiegrrl May 18th, 2008, 5:34 pm Yay! So, it's just coming out in Japan....Wonder how long it'll take to come here?

jammi567 May 19th, 2008, 9:00 am Awsome! It looks brilliant! I wonder what extra features they could add, rather then just modifications?
Israely_Wizard May 23rd, 2008, 7:26 am Hey, you guys, ever hear of "the truck"? It's suposed to be a special game sprite with no real purpus near the S.S. Anne.
I playd Red, Blue, and LeafGreen a lot of times, but never seen it, not in Red, Blue, or the remakes.
I never found out how, but there's suposed to be a Lava Cookie near the truck in FR & LG but I don't know how.
Do you know?
Sarahx May 23rd, 2008, 12:19 pm I have Pokemon Diamond on my Nintendo DS which is pretty cool, sometimes I get bored though cause it's all the same. Maybe thats cause I've never understood them properly? I just press any button in fights. :| Haha.
WitchHunter May 24th, 2008, 6:28 am Lately I've been testing some the unused hex values for pokemon in Leaf Green. (For those who don't know, every pokemon has a hexadecimal value, but there are quite a few hexadecimal values that don't have any pokemon assigned to them. These can be accessed by entering a Gameshark or Codebreaker code that makes a certain pokemon appear when a random battle begins and entering the unused hex value where you normally enter the value of the pokemon you wish to encounter). The "glitch" pokemon in this game are much more interesting then those in the originals. Many of them are relatively stable, and a few are even somewhat functional, leveling up and learning new abilities. There's also alot of them. The game only uses up to 019B (with a few holes in the middle), so anything higher then that will generate a "glitch" pokemon, except for a few that just freeze the game. If anyone is interested, I can send you the codes to do this as well as my notes on the values I've tested so far.

To see the truck in R/B/Y you have to skip the SS Anne by trading for a Pokemon that knows Cut. Then after you get Surf you have to enter the dock and surf off the east side. At the north end of the area there's a beach with the truck on it. And for those who remember the rumor, you can't use Strength on it to catch a Mew. I know the truck is there in FR/LG, and I'm guessing you have to do the same thing to reach it, but I haven't actually played that far into those games. I wouldn't be too sure about the cookie though, there have been rumors about that truck since the originals (like the one about Mew that I mentioned).

In RBY you don't have to trade, you can get Cut then battle a trainer and lose then go back and you'll still be able to get on the ship. If you do it in FRLG I think if you try and go back after fainting it'll just set off. I think I remember getting the Laviridge Town cookie in FRLG
HPFan82 May 27th, 2008, 3:10 am Pokemon games I own & play:
LeafGreen
Emerald
Ruby
Diamond
Pearl
and others I can't think of, right now...
Israely_Wizard May 28th, 2008, 12:31 pm I've desided to give up on the truck. I mean, one Lava Cookie just isn't worth all that work.
Israely_Wizard May 30th, 2008, 3:56 pm I just thought of something:
Don't you think there should be a cockroach Pokemon? It could be a Pokemon Gang's signature Pokemon; you know: like Team Rocket usses Zubat, Team Magma usses Numel and it's Evolution, Team Magma usses Corfish and it's Evolution, both Magma and Aqua usses Poochyena and it's Exolution, and like Team Galaxy usses Glameow, Stunky and their Evolutions.
jammi567 June 19th, 2008, 11:20 pm Just so everybody is up to date with all of the changes happening in Pokemon Platemum, here is a comprsensive list:
Known changes from Pokémon Diamond and Pearl
Aesthetic changes
Lucas (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Lucas_%28game%29), Dawn (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Dawn_%28game%29) and Pearl (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pearl_%28game%29) will have different outfits designed for colder weather, apparently due to Sinnoh's climate suddenly dropping in temperature.
The template for the level, HP, and name of Pokémon in battle is a dark gray instead of white.
The Pokétch (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9tch) has been redesigned.
When Pokémon are sent out from their Poké Balls (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9_Ball), the back view animation will have been improved. Much like the animations introduced in Pokémon Emerald (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_Emerald_Version) and carried over to Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, these entry animations will consist of two frames with various distortions to the sprite. However, the front view animations do not seem to have been improved.Storyline changes
Dialga (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Dialga_%28Pok%C3%A9mon%29) and Palkia (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Palkia_%28Pok%C3%A9mon%29) will both appear on Spear Pillar (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Spear_Pillar). Giratina (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Giratina_%28Pok%C3%A9mon%29) then phases into the dimension (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_universe) in front of Cyrus (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Cyrus).
A new area known as the Torn World (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Torn_World) (Japanese: やぶれたせかい Torn World) will be playable. A small screenshot depicts it with floor-like sections floating at ninety-degree angles from each other, creating an effect similar to the art of M. C. Eshcer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M._C._Eshcer).
At least two new characters will be added.Gameplay changes
Giratina (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Giratina_%28Pok%C3%A9mon%29)'s Origin Forme (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Form_differences#Giratina) can now be selected as an alternative form, like Deoxys (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Deoxys_%28Pok%C3%A9mon%29)'s forms.
Regirock (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Regirock_%28Pok%C3%A9mon%29), Regice (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Regice_%28Pok%C3%A9mon%29) and Registeel (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Registeel_%28Pok%C3%A9mon%29) will be catchable at level 30 with the help of an event Regigigas (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Regigigas_%28Pok%C3%A9mon%29) that will be distributed in Japan starting June 20.
When transferred from Pokémon Diamond and Pearl (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_Diamond_and_Pearl_Versions), Shaymin (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Shaymin_%28Pok%C3%A9mon%29) automatically changes into its Sky Forme in Pokémon Platinum and back again to Land Forme when transferred back to Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, much like Deoxys did when transferred among the Generation III (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Generation_III) games.Map changes
An arch now represents the entrance to Floaroma Town (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Floaroma_Town). It is unknown if this will be also applied to other towns and cities.
There are now more areas in Sinnoh to explore, such as a castle, a room with a computer, and the aforementioned Torn World.
Areas such as Eterna City (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Eterna_City) seem to have been refurnished with new foliage and building designs.Copied and pasted from Bulbapedia
weasley June 28th, 2008, 10:35 pm Just so everybody is up to date with all of the changes happening in Pokemon Platemum, here is a comprsensive list:

Thanks for posting all that! Dawn's new outfit looks really cool, Pearl's looks near enough the same and Lucus's is a slight improvement. It draws attention away from the beret, anyway XD
Israely_Wizard September 6th, 2008, 5:20 am Anyone here wanna trade/battle through the Global Trading System?!
I just got my own version of pearl, but I don't know anyone who has the games, which sucks, because I cant play with friends in the Underground (and as far as I can figure it out you can't play in the Undergorund via Wi-Fi:sad:)
killahhrf September 15th, 2008, 10:43 pm Pokčmon Gold...I trained my Ampharos up to level 100, no cheats or anything.
Those were the days.
Schlubalybub September 30th, 2008, 2:21 pm I love the pokemon games, I love Crystal the most at the moment, I love the whole story about the unowns and stuff. I also love the fact that in Crystal you get to go to both Kanto and Johto
jammi567 October 1st, 2008, 7:19 pm Silver's my favorite game.

I loved that game as well. It's still one of my favorite Pokémon games. None of the others come close, in terms of the number of gym battles and that kind of thing.
Schlubalybub October 7th, 2008, 2:42 pm Woo-hoo! I'm glad someone else agrees with me!
I guess it was because it was a much longer seeming game than the others
Israely_Wizard October 8th, 2008, 6:00 am Not that you're going to pay attention to this but, anyone know a good Walkthrou for Diamond and Pearl post(after)-Elite Four?
You see, I won against the Elite Four only at Level 48-49 (I used the weakness factor), and I'm afraid I'll get crushed trying to get throu the Battle Zone.
Schlubalybub October 8th, 2008, 5:38 pm All I can say is that it wasn't a good idea to go in at that early level. I suggest looking online for walkthroughs, there are plenty of sites dedicated to them.
jammi567 December 10th, 2008, 11:18 pm Big news: Pokemon Platenum is coming to America March 22nd!
griffiegrrl January 17th, 2009, 12:04 am Woo hoo! I'm excited about that!
