Raven_Girly October 6th, 2007, 4:30 am I was very surprised to see that we don't have a thread on Green Day, one of the greatest bands in the world, in my opinion! I remember we had a thread a while ago but it must have got pruned so let's try it again. :)
I grew up listening to Green Day (my brother was a fan so that's where I first heard them) and they are still one of my favourite bands today. My favourite songs include "She", "Waiting", "Good Riddance", "Minority" and "Basket Case". When the album American Idiot was first released, I was a bit anti towards their new sound but I learnt to love that album too. I like "Jesus of Suburbia", "Give Me Novacaine" and "Whatsername".
Anywho, I'm sure we have more Green Day fans out there! I hope we're all okay with the sub-forum I've put this in (maybe it belongs in "Punk", I don't know).
rich_505 October 6th, 2007, 11:05 am Older Green Day stuff to me is Punk, American Idiot was Punk-Pop-Rock.
I love pretty much all Green Day after 1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours. I especially like pre-american idiot albums, my Green Day Mega-Playlist on iTunes has gone from being filled with American Idiot and one or two songs from Dookie or Warning to now being filled with everything Green Day and one or two songs from American Idiot :p
My favourite songs change alot, at the moment though -
Deadbeat Holiday
Fashion Victim
Basket Case
Minority
Chump
Longview
Good Riddance
Having a blast
Burnout
Jason Andrew Relva
Those are the most played in the last week anyway!
mugglesrock October 6th, 2007, 3:49 pm Green Day used to be my favorite band, I love their style. I also grew up with this band - mostly the songs 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams' and 'Wake Me Up When September Ends' - I could never get tired of those two songs.
F8fulDeathEater October 6th, 2007, 7:03 pm i like there cover of Working Class Hero. also The Saints Are Comin with U2.
also still enjoy there old stuff.
rich_505 October 6th, 2007, 8:10 pm Working Class Hero is quite possibly one of the best covers of any song ever. John Lennon's lyrics work immensely well with Green Day, the breath of life that Green Day injected into the song take it to a whole new level.
gUcCiGryffindor October 6th, 2007, 9:33 pm uhhhh, i loveeeeeeeeeeee Green Day!!!!!
F8fulDeathEater October 6th, 2007, 9:50 pm Working Class Hero is quite possibly one of the best covers of any song ever.
i agree, marilyn manson even did a cover of that song ;)
rich_505 October 6th, 2007, 10:22 pm i agree, marilyn manson even did a cover of that song ;)
:elaugh: Now this is something I have to listen to asap! *opens iTunes music store*
F8fulDeathEater October 7th, 2007, 5:42 am Now this is something I have to listen to asap! *opens iTunes music store*
definatly.
DogStar777 October 7th, 2007, 7:33 pm They are one of my top three fvaorite bands! My favorite song by them is "Boulevard of Broken Dreams".
mariebeth83 October 8th, 2007, 12:11 pm I adore Green Day - I've seen them live at a festival and they are the most amazing band. They sound better live than on CD which says something about a band! I'm obsessed with them now!
I also can't help but admire a band who say what they believe in.
rich_505 October 8th, 2007, 9:44 pm I adore Green Day - I've seen them live at a festival and they are the most amazing band. They sound better live than on CD which says something about a band! I'm obsessed with them now!

Rammstein are the same, sound good on CD but totally blow you away live.
Fawkesfan1 October 10th, 2007, 9:44 pm I adore Green Day - I've seen them live at a festival and they are the most amazing band. They sound better live than on CD which says something about a band! I'm obsessed with them now!

I agree with you, I too respect a band who does that !
I'm a fan of Green Day myself :), I like quite a few of their songs, "Time of Your Life", "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" are only a couple of songs by them that I like.
pinkShark October 23rd, 2007, 9:36 pm I love Green Day! Does anyone know if they have an album planned for soon, because I miss them!
LilyDreamsOn October 23rd, 2007, 10:55 pm I luuuurve Green Day. They're actually the reason my best friend and I started talking - we both loved the band and went on and on about their songs. :D
Now my dad's in love with them, too. He thinks Muse and Green Day are the only two really good bands of today, and he's a bit of a music nut so that's saying something.
I find it hilarious that we have a poster of James Dean called "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" hanging in our hallway and we've lived here for thirteen years, and yet I only ever noticed the title when Green Day's song came out. I'm so observant, lol.
Vadimas October 26th, 2007, 5:18 am I do like the songs, Boulevard of Broken Dreams and Holiday.
carino November 9th, 2007, 11:53 pm I love Green Day! Does anyone know if they have an album planned for soon, because I miss them!
Last thing I've heard is 2008. I can't wait!!
mariebeth83 November 10th, 2007, 3:42 am Last thing I've heard is 2008. I can't wait!!
that's just made my day! :D
Fawkesfan1 November 10th, 2007, 4:44 am Last thing I've heard is 2008. I can't wait!!
Wow, that's cool -- it's great to hear that they're going to be putting out another album. I can't wait either !
OneOfTheseDays November 10th, 2007, 5:00 am They haven't had a good album since nimrod. Warning was average, shenanigans and american idiot were just awful.
carino November 11th, 2007, 6:32 pm ^I think that, though Nimrod and Insomniac are two of my favorites, that Warning and American Idiot were not bad either. True, Warning was a bit mellow...but I still liked it.
I agree, though, Shenanigans was absolute ****. I'm glad they got it back together with American Idiot.
So why don't you like American Idiot?
OneOfTheseDays November 17th, 2007, 4:36 pm I think they sold out with American Idiot. They completely changed their style from shenanigans to American Idiot. This "political" green day, is not the pop-punk green day we all know and love.
xhanax315 November 18th, 2007, 2:00 am I was very young when I first began listening to them. My sister was a fan and I grew into them because we shared a room for the longest time. She always had them blarring every day. My first cd was Warning and I got it when I was in the fifth grade. I wasn't too pleased with American Idiot, but when you love a band, you except all of their music, even if it isn't so great. My absolute favorite song is Good Riddance (of course) and Macy's Day Parade. I also love Minority and Warning!
P.S. I do believe there was once a Green Day thread because I remember posting in it
carino November 25th, 2007, 12:06 am But I say thank god they changed! If they had kept up with their Shenanigans stuff, well, I don't think they would've been around much longer. I sort of like the politicalness, but I do wish they'd revert to Nimrod and Insomniac style. It just sounded a bit less polished, which I like.

I do as well, it shows how far they've come as a group. But I do wish that they'd revert to the older Nimrod and Insomniac style too. Good old old school Green Day :).
gUcCiGryffindor December 8th, 2007, 4:03 pm My favorite Songs are probably
Jesus of Suburbia
Holiday
When I Come Around
Homecoming
St. Jimmy
Minority
Good Riddance
...and many more ;]
Luka13 December 15th, 2007, 2:44 am Is Green Day coming out with a new CD soon? I thought that they were talking about making another CD on their site, but I'm not sure what they're planning now...
rich_505 December 15th, 2007, 8:46 am All the rumours that have circulated have said 2008 they'll begin recording, it's been confirmed that in early 2008 they will be returning to the studio to begin recording material for a new album. It's also been confirmed that they've left the whole 'American Idiot' theme behind.
Anyone else loving The Foxboro Hot Tubs? ;)
Hysteria December 15th, 2007, 11:05 am I think they sold out with American Idiot. They completely changed their style from shenanigans to American Idiot. This "political" green day, is not the pop-punk green day we all know and love.
Yeah I think so too but that seems to be the trend these days *cough-MCR-cough*. American Idiot is ok but nothing special I dont think. Their earlier records are much better.
Luka13 December 15th, 2007, 1:23 pm I love all of their albums. And, well, American Idiot was probably one of their best; though, not a lot of people like it compared to the earlier albums. :) It's my favorite.
mariebeth83 December 15th, 2007, 11:50 pm I love all of their albums. And, well, American Idiot was probably one of their best; though, not a lot of people like it compared to the earlier albums. :) It's my favorite.
I liked American Idiot a lot, it is more mainstream than their older ones but it's still pretty good. And the message they're getting across in it is important enough to go more mainstream!
Also they're the best band I've ever seen live
OneOfTheseDays December 17th, 2007, 6:55 pm In my opinion, the only tolerable song on AI is Whatsername.
fashionvictim December 20th, 2007, 4:38 pm Anyone else loving The Foxboro Hot Tubs? ;)
I am! I've been listening to them pretty much non-stop since I got the songs. I love the 60s sound in the songs and it's getting me really excited about Green Day's new album! I hope the new album is out in '08 but I have a feeling it's gonna be '09. :(
RosePotter16 December 25th, 2007, 7:57 pm My friend got me addicted to Green Day in middle school now Ithink I am a bigger fan then she is, I like their old stuff better (Platypus, DIsappearing Boy, The Judge's Daughter) but American Idiot isn't that bad, some people say they sold out but I think htey are just doing what they always did saying whatever is on their minds.
Anyone else loving The Foxboro Hot Tubs? ;)
Yes my second favourite band!! I am obsessed with them
mariebeth83 December 30th, 2007, 7:50 am All the rumours that have circulated have said 2008 they'll begin recording, it's been confirmed that in early 2008 they will be returning to the studio to begin recording material for a new album. I can't wait to hear what they'll come up with! But are they actually Foxboro Hot Tubs or is it still just rumours??? I do love the music though!
OneOfTheseDays January 2nd, 2008, 11:08 pm It's also been confirmed that they've left
thank god
Saoirse January 2nd, 2008, 11:17 pm Dookie was the best album of all green day time, American Idiot sucked so much, they wernt the same green day, the sold out the punk rock old green day, so as to become rebles against the state through their lyrics, they used to do that through their music
pinkShark February 8th, 2008, 8:55 pm Anyone else loving The Foxboro Hot Tubs? ;)
Yus yus. I really like 'Mother Mary' but I missed the chance to get the ep! Myspace it is then...
GrangerHermione February 9th, 2008, 4:18 am I don't mean to offend anyone or anything, but I am not a big fan of Green Day. I don't know...they just freak me out a little. They're so gothic...
But I realy like their song Boulevard of Broken Dreams.
Before I knew that it was Green Day's song, I had been hearing it on the radio a lot, and I thought it was called "I Walk Alone." I searched for it on the computer to find out who did it, but I couldn't find it. Then one day, my brother made me listen to it and I thought "Hey! I know that song!"
Sorry...random story :D.
LoonyMagic February 9th, 2008, 11:32 am I'm not a big fan of their American Idiot album. It was alright but not as good as their older albums. I love Basket Case, Good Riddance and Welcome to Paradise. :)
pinkShark February 9th, 2008, 8:49 pm I'm not a big fan of their American Idiot album. It was alright but not as good as their older albums.
My favourites are 1039 and Kerplunk, you can't beat the originals :D Does anybody else love Bullet in a Bible? I would have begged, borrowed and stolen for tickets to that concert :S
MC2456 February 23rd, 2008, 3:02 pm Greenday ROCKS! Does anyone like Boulevard of Broken Dreams? It's practically my motto :D
LoonyMagic February 23rd, 2008, 3:10 pm Greenday ROCKS! Does anyone like Boulevard of Broken Dreams? It's practically my motto :D
That was their first song that got me interested in them as a band. A really good song, although I haven't listened to it for ages.
pinkShark March 5th, 2008, 1:10 pm Greenday ROCKS! Does anyone like Boulevard of Broken Dreams? It's practically my motto :D
See I do like that song, but I can't listen to it anymore because it was so so SO overplayed on the the radio and music channels when it was released. So I do like it, but hardly ever listen to it.

That's the same for me. I think the problem for Green Day was that they became too popular and after a while people got sick of listening to their music. It was a shame because they're a good band, but for a while I think they were definitely overated. :)

Yes, and I think they learnt from that because with their U2 collaberation I barely heard anything about it, although I think it's a very good song. Hoping for some new matierial from them soon.
jack_l3auer March 20th, 2008, 4:07 am I love green day they are like the best band ever
they so killed minoriy and america iodiot its not even funny

Raven_Girly April 11th, 2008, 12:51 pm I think the problem for Green Day was that they became too popular and after a while people got sick of listening to their music.
I agree with that. It's a shame because their songs are amazing. I was one of those people that became a bit annoyed at their mainstream success after American Idiot. It's a good album but the songs got absolutely thrashed on the radio. Like "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" and "Wake Me Up When September Ends" are both such beautiful songs but they got so overplayed.
Saoirse April 11th, 2008, 4:39 pm Dookie album is amazing, i dont like american idiot, its not amazing greenday. but shpuldnt this be in a punk section, seeing as greenday are punk rock
OneOfTheseDays April 12th, 2008, 4:53 am everything has sucked since nimrod i think
Raven_Girly April 13th, 2008, 2:02 am shpuldnt this be in a punk section, seeing as greenday are punk rock
That was kinda discussed in the first post. I don't see why I didn't put it in the punk section now but I suppose I was basing it on their latest album which I think is closer to to the rock side then punk. Some would even call them alternative. But as it is with most bands, it's hard to put Green Day into one single genre.
everything has sucked since nimrod i think
I thought Warning was okay. A couple of my favourite songs came off that album. And even American Idiot has grown on me now. It's certainly not Green Day's best, but it's okay.
I am not a big fan of Green Day. I don't know...they just freak me out a little. They're so gothic...
I just spotted this post. I've never heard them being described as gothic before lol. Can you explain why you think so? :)
rich_505 May 1st, 2008, 7:56 pm Soooo Stop Drop And Roll!! What do we all think? Now that we have the full album :D 'Sally', 'The Pedestrian', 'Ruby Room', 'Aligator' are my favourites right now, but I have to say that the whole album has a LOT of re-listen value. Quite good to see Green Day doing something totally off the cuff and having a bit of fun.
everything has sucked since nimrod i think
Now come on, Warning is brilliant... American Idiot is also a truly amazing album; don't get me wrong, Dookie trumps it easily but American Idiot has defined a generation and brought Green Day to the masses. It rekindled the interest in Green Day for many fans and brought Green Day up to date. Much like the Foxboro stuff American Idiot was quite experimental, and Green Day hit it on the nose.

What about Warning was brilliant? It was a pathetic attempt for them to try to be political.
How has American Idiot defined a generation. It was sensless ****, with Billie Joe trying to be creative and use dumb metaphors to describe politics.
If you really believe American Idiot was experimental, I feel terrible for you. There is nothing really creative about it, much less experimental.

American Idiot actually, unfortunately, has described the view of America from other countries. At this stage, we may be a world power, but we aren't making any friends right now with other countries. I honestly don't blame Green Day for writing that song. It's a good one, anyways. :D I love them, my favorite song of theirs is Holiday.

Yay, same here. I don't blame them for writing that song either. America isn't exactly in a good position as of now in terms of being viewed by other countries, like you said.
I like Holiday as well, it's a good song by them :).
phsycolady May 3rd, 2008, 1:35 am I do think that American Idiot was good because well... it speaks the truth sometimes... but I have to say the video for boulevard of broken dreams was just a wee bit depressing...

A Wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Idiot_(song))describes the song as follows:
"American Idiot" criticizes the post 9/11 U.S., referring to such issues as paranoia, propaganda and media.
And according to this website (http://www.geekstinkbreath.net/greenday/song-meanings/american-idiot/) (FYI: there are swear words on the page so please don't be offended if you look at the site)
This song is an overview of the album's most important ideas, as well as a sort of a warning calling out to the people across the country: don't let them take away your personality, don't let them turn you into Idiot America.
It's not about how other countries view the USA, it's about how a lot of individual people within the USA view the changes that have come about because of the Bush administration.
OneOfTheseDays May 4th, 2008, 9:56 pm Wikipedia is the most unreliable source there is. Anyone could go post anything they wanted there at anytime, and it would look credible.
Saoirse May 6th, 2008, 7:50 pm yeah but wiki pages are monitered and edited if deemed incorect
and i always got the impression that american idiot was attempting to explain like Bullet in the Head by RATM the obedience of the american people to the bush administration and its changes to the US, the War on Terror thing and what not, hence the name american idiot
Raven_Girly May 7th, 2008, 12:54 am yeah but wiki pages are monitered and edited if deemed incorect
There's thousands and thousands of articles though so I doubt they get to everyone and correct little deatils like this. And the quote that mariebeth83 posted seemed like it was heavily influenced by the opinion of whoever wrote it, rather than actual fact -- they didn't cite the source they got it from (not that I disagree with the quote at all, I'm just saying it's not an entirely credible source).
But anyway, I'm going to ahead and get back on topic...
It's not about how other countries view the USA, it's about how a lot of individual people within the USA view the changes that have come about because of the Bush administration.
I'm not American so I certainly wouldn't call myself an expert on American politics and such, but this is pretty much the interpretation that I get from the song.

Green Day are by far one of the most adaptable and evolving bands of recent years, to me:
Warning - Quite different in terms of music, style. Interesting lyrics, upbeat (too much at times) and just a step away from what we'd been used to from GD. It's a very fresh album, a large step towards American Idiot really.
American Idiot - Again, quite different in terms of both music and style; lyrics too. Songs such as Jesus of Suburbia, She's a Rebel, Boulevard of Broken Dreams simply hit the nail on the head for most teenagers of the AI era. It brought a whole new wave of fans into listening to Green Day and therefore sampling the older (and IMO better) Green Day albums, don't get me wrong there are those who will have only listened to AI but none the less they're fans.
No matter what they churn out they'll always be brilliant in my eyes, and whether it's a style that I agree with or am inclined to like/dislike I can always find a way to appreciate it.
American Idiot, with the running storyline throughout the album really did captivate people. Whether you like it or not it has kept Green Day going...
The Foxboro Hot Tubs have just completed their US Mini-Tour, with hints of gig(s) in England
PureBloodGirl June 12th, 2008, 3:57 am I've heard a couple of there songs and I like them. They're not awsome, but they're good. My favorite song of theirs is Wake Me Up When Septemeber Ends.

Listen to Dookie. Easily their best album
Luka13 June 29th, 2008, 3:10 pm Green Day was talking about releasing an album sometime in 2008, but yet, I'm not sure about that yet....
All that I can tell you guys is that they're working on an album, they've got 45 songs made so far, most of them have been written with a piano. Billie Joe said that in an interview, that he wanted the new music to dig into what he's feeling at the moment - which is middle-aged.

Yeah, it is pretty awesome. :)
I remember when their last album came out, and all of the radio stations kept playing their songs for ages. :D Hopefully this new album that they're working on will be just as successful.
amandaevans July 2nd, 2008, 3:24 pm American Idiot is my first memory from music videos.
Also, second music memory. The first one is Britney Spears. :scared::lol:

Thanks for those links Luka. It'll be great if we can get a new album from them this year but I don't think it will be that soon to be honest. :)
I'm worried about this new album.
That does not surprise me because it's no secret that you're not a fan of American Idiot. Peronally, I'm really excited about the new album. It will be nice to see some new material from them. Of course it would be cool to see something more Dookie-like rather than anything similar to American Idiot but I doubt that's going to be happenig any day soon. Either way, I will just be happy to see some more Green Day. :D

maybe their worst three.
Rush September 2nd, 2008, 3:25 am I really like a couple of their songs: Wake Me Up When September Ends, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, and Holiday.

I disagree. I thought Holiday was one of there best songs and the other two were good, just of different speed then normal.
I went to see them live right after the release of American Idiot and I thought they performed really well live. They played a lot of there older songs, and all their newer ones, and they even played a few well known covers. They played with a lot of energy, and didn't have many screw-ups.
Saoirse September 2nd, 2008, 6:44 pm Yeah, holiday is an amzing song, wake me up got too much airplay, and has really killed it for me, same for boulevard but i didnt like that as much in the first place

I went to see them live right after the release of American Idiot and I thought they performed really well live. They played a lot of there older songs, and all their newer ones, and they even played a few well known covers. They played with a lot of energy, and didn't have many screw-ups.
I like Holiday as well. It's one of my favourites off of that album. Wake Me Up and Boulevard were wildly overplayed to the point that I almost completely dislike them now. They are both pretty good songs (not my favourites but okay) so it's kind of a shame that them being overplayed wrecked it for a lot of people.
I've never seen them live but I totally would if ever came this way again. It sounds like they're really good, from what I've heard. :)
Voldemorts8thHorcrux September 25th, 2008, 10:03 pm Boulevard of Broken Dreams is such a perfect description of my life!!! Ok...it's really depressing for me actually, but I can't stop listening to it, even if the "I walk alone" keeps repeating
rich_505 October 17th, 2008, 9:34 pm Videos of them working on the new album on GDA (http://www.greendayauthority.com/), by the looks of it though no Rob Cavallo... Not sure if that's a good move or not, guess we'll have to wait and hear. Butch Vig co-producting should be awesome though given that he has produced for Nirvana, not to mention he was Garbage's drummer. Am I the only one wanting a collaboration with Shirley Manson somewhere along the line?
Luka13 October 28th, 2008, 3:12 pm I heard one of the people on this thread say that they were worried about the new album Green Day has been making. I am as well, for a few reasons though, and I'll tell you something else in a minute.
Green Day was one of those first bands that I really started listening to when I was about ten years old. Back then I thought they were the greatest, and was just listening to their older albums like Dookie, not knowing that they were going to release something way different compared to their older work. In 2005, after I had collected a few of their albums and listened to them all the time, I started to hear Holiday play on the radio and I was really excited. I didn't know that it was Green Day at first that was singing though back it had a different feel than what Green Day usually has. So once I found out that it was Green Day singing, I basically said that I've got to get this album. So today, 5I still love their old stuff, and I still like their new stuff. In fact, when I listen to their new stuff, I literally say 'Wow..' to how great the guitar is, and how you can actually hear the vocals a bit better. :p
So now to this new album.... It would be great to hear some new Green Day, but lets face it, they're getting old and I'm still young. Instead of hearing those tracks that I can relate to, we're going to hear someone talking about getting old and eating Total on the piano. :rotfl: That's what I'm starting to think this new album is going to be like. I'm even questioning wether I should even buy it when it comes out. So in the end, I am worried about this new album.
Patryk November 9th, 2008, 8:16 am Green Day is a LEGEND ! Very good band, I think everyone hear about Green Day. But I don't listen it :) My friend told me that, they best album was Dookie and Warning, I hear only American Idiot but maybe it's time to listen more songs by Green Day...
And again sorry for my English
Voldemorts8thHorcrux November 27th, 2008, 2:29 am i've been listening to Green Day a lot lately. Basket Case is amazing. The video is extremely odd  but the song is just great.
vampiricduck November 27th, 2008, 2:41 am Yes, same here! Last week I listened to American Idiot for the first time in about a year, and I loved it all over again! :D
Any news of when they have new material coming out? It's been quite some time!
Voldemorts8thHorcrux November 27th, 2008, 2:47 am Same here, American Idiot is great. Ijust don't have any more room on my mp3 player :(
xhanax315 November 27th, 2008, 4:17 am Yes, same here! Last week I listened to American Idiot for the first time in about a year, and I loved it all over again! :D

I don't know. I thought they were supposed to have already come out with new material, but I guess not. :sigh:
vampiricduck November 28th, 2008, 12:32 am Admittedly, I wouldn't know. It's one of those things I ought to check! But I haven't seen anything new in quite some time, and I would like to, because they were doing so well at American idiot's release. I know though, that they also do a lot of political and campaigning work for charities and the like. And the environment, as I recall.

That's one of the reasons why I love them so much! :tu:
browneyedkat March 1st, 2009, 9:48 pm I like a couple songs by Green Day, but I have not heard very many. They are a good band.
PureBloodGirl March 7th, 2009, 2:22 am I think I've only heard songs off of their American Idiot album. Really great stuff, though. I was listening to the radio last night and their song Holiday was playing and I just love it! It's awesome!
merry18 March 7th, 2009, 2:43 am Green Day is my all-time favorite band, and I am way excited for their new album. Altpress did a really nice article in their anticipated albums issue (sorry if someone already said this, but I haven't read the whole thread). Like someone said a few posts up, the fact that they do a lot of humanitarian work makes me love them even more.
Voldemorts8thHorcrux March 12th, 2009, 11:46 pm I love Green Day! I'm just really annoyed because a lot of their music got taken off youtube :grumble:
I was just listening to basket case, and is it me, or does Mike have a bit of a nasaly voice?
GirlOfMalFoi March 21st, 2009, 3:05 am Green Day is definitely my favorite band--well, tied with the Beatles. I'm SO psyched for their new album in May--and the tour to follow! I've got all their music, including the Network and Foxboro Hot Tubs stuff, and adore it all...I think overall my favorite album is Warning.
But, from what I've read about 21st Century Breakdown--the new album--it sounds like it's just going to end up being American Idiot the Sequel...it's divided into acts [one of which, the title contains the word "handgrenades"...-.-], and it follows a young couple called Christian and Gloria through their...I dunno, disillusionment of the state of the world anymore. There's a song called "March of the Dogs" on it; that's about religion. American Idiot...the sequel.
Voldemorts8thhorcrux--you ask if Mike has a nasally voice, as you listen to Basket Case. Going from that it sounds like you may've mixed up Mike and Billie [who does in fact sound a little nasally]. Mike's the bassist, Billie Joe is the lead singer/guitarist...but Mike does backing vocals and occasionally a lead. If I misinterpreted the question, however, all apologies. :)
Voldemorts8thHorcrux March 21st, 2009, 3:13 am oh ok, i probably mixed up the names . And i noticed it in a lot of their songs a lot so maybe it was mike and not billie :hmm:
vampiricduck March 22nd, 2009, 3:40 am When is their new album due out? I've heard nothing whatsoever about it!
xhanax315 March 22nd, 2009, 6:19 am Green Day is definitely my favorite band--well, tied with the Beatles. I'm SO psyched for their new album in May--and the tour to follow! I've got all their music, including the Network and Foxboro Hot Tubs stuff, and adore it all...I think overall my favorite album is Warning.
Warning is my favorite too. It was the first cd I had purchased and I loved it. I don't why too many people didn't like it though. :hmm:
I love Green Day! I'm just really annoyed because a lot of their music got taken off youtube :grumble:

You got to remember that was back in the ninties, I believe. I don't think his voice sounds the same as then.
I really want their new album! :argh: They've made me wait too long.
vampiricduck March 31st, 2009, 1:48 am I heard today that American Idiot, the album, is set to be made into a Stage Musical. It will be a collaboration between Green Day and Tony award winning director Michael Mayer.
And also, their eighth studio album, "21st Century Breakdown", is set for release on the 15th May 2009. :)
As well as that, they have a new side project. Well, it was a while ago, but I only found out relatively recently- They made an album called "Stop Drop and Roll!!!" under the name of the Foxboro Hot Tubs. The only similarity is that they're the same band though. It's not Green Day at all really, save the people. :D
GirlOfMalFoi April 4th, 2009, 4:17 am Forty-two days....I'm so psyched, even if they are just redoing AI. Either way, it's going to be one hell of a record...I'm going to try like hell to stay away from any singles that might come out till then, though, 'cause I want all the music to be new when I get the full CD, y'know? However...everyone I know knows about my GD addiction, so they're going to be going on, "Oh, I heard a new Green Day song on the radio today, it was really good/bad," blah blah blah...and undoubtedly there're gonna be even more people screaming "Sellouts!" than last time...But, hey, I don't care. It's new music from my boys.
Ahh, yes, Foxboro Hot Tubs...that was about a year ago, that that happened, and they went on a tour for Stop Drop and Roll!!! and I'm incredibly ****** I couldn't see them...but oh, god, I adore the songs so much. I remember the first couple times I listened to it, I'd be thinking something like, "Oh, this is such a good song, might be one of my favorites," and then the next song would come on, "This is so good, too...okay, this and the last one," and the next song, "Oh, wait, but this is awesome too..." There's not a single bad song on that record...it's kind of sixties-ish, a little, which of course I dig beyond anything--I'm obsessed with the 60's. So all in all--a major win.
Also, speaking of FHT, back around '03 the boys donned masks and became The Network. They haven't admitted this, but it's rather obvious it's them...the lead singer, "Fink", his voice is exactly Billie's...Van Gough's bone structure under the bandages is exactly Mike's...but the music they played is sort of New Wave, Devo-ish. It's very good--I love it all. If you haven't looked them up, I highly recommend...and once you've listened to the music, check out some of the story about them and Green Day, why they "hate" each other. It's all very entertaining..... http://www.geekstinkbreath.net/greenday/article/the-network-exposed/

Yay SuperDuck! Thanks for the info! Its about time they set a release date! I can't wait. ;)

Exactly. :agree:
xhanax315 April 18th, 2009, 2:47 am I thought you guys might find this interesting, Billie Joe himself talks a little about the new album:

Raven_Girly April 18th, 2009, 4:23 pm What do we think of "Know Your Enemy" so far? I like it but I am ever-so-slightly disappointed...I kind of expected to be wowed by it, rather than just "well, this is kind of cool". But I suppose this is just the first single. Still psyched for the album. Not long to go now..:D
xhanax315 May 15th, 2009, 4:24 am Woot! New album released tomorrow! Can't wait! Going to buy it tomorrow after work.
vampiricduck May 20th, 2009, 9:04 pm Was it good?! I've not gotten around to buying it yet! :D
xhanax315 May 22nd, 2009, 6:15 am I must admit that I'm disappointed in this latest album. It's too soft for my liking, if you get my drift. I was expecting something much better than this, but quite frankly I had my hopes up too high. I think you have to listen to it yourself, I'm not at all pleased.
vampiricduck May 22nd, 2009, 2:41 pm I've heard something like what you've said from others, yes. They all seem quite upset at it, because it didn't give the same power and (I quote my friend) "oomph" as American Idiot did.
And I saw an ad for it on tv and the new single was playing behind the ad, and I thought the song sounded very weak altogether.
Fawkesfan1 May 22nd, 2009, 7:13 pm I must admit that I'm disappointed in this latest album. It's too soft for my liking, if you get my drift. Wow, what a bummer -- I've only heard part of one song off of it... and I can see where you are coming from xhanax. It's just way too soft.
Personally, I miss old school Green Day myself...
Fawkesfan1 May 27th, 2009, 1:03 am I've just heard more of the new album -- and from what I can tell... it seems rather pretensious. I never thought that I'd ever say that about them... but now that day has come :sigh:.
DeathlyH June 3rd, 2009, 10:06 pm I've only heard a few songs from the new album, and most of them I'm just so-so on. There's a couple that are pretty good, but still not up to par with the old Green Day. I hear their old songs being played on the radio more often than their new songs now.
TheMarsOpera June 4th, 2009, 6:23 am I'm sorry people are so disappointed with the new album. I actually love it. It may be my favorite Green Day album, and I have every album, so I know what "Old Green Day" sounded like. To be honest, I like that they've matured, and that their song topics are more relevant to what's happening in the world today. I agree, the album is a bit softer, but they are married with kids (well, at least Billie is). However, there are definitely several aggressive songs, and the lyrics themselves really aren't soft at all, with the exception of "Last Night On Earth", which is breath-taking. If I ever get married, I want that song played at my wedding.

Have you listened to Horseshoes & Handgrenades? That is definitely not soft.

The single (Know Your Enemy) is pretty much the weakest song on the album. It was the first song I heard, and I almost didn't buy the album because of it. I did, though, and I'm very glad I did. I'm not saying you should buy the album, but definitely listen to some songs online (there are plenty of places you can listen to the album for free legally) and give it a chance before you judge based on one song.
xhanax315 June 5th, 2009, 4:40 am Have you listened to Horseshoes & Handgrenades? That is definitely not soft.
Yes I have actually, considering I have the album. I agree that its good that their music is pulling from what's occuring in the world, but the album it self just didn't click with me all that well. I've been a Green Day as long as I can remember, and I've love everything that they've come out with, except this one album. And my favorite song is "Last Night on Earth" as well; that and "21 Guns".

That's too bad, but to each his own. At least you like some songs off the album. Did you hear, 21 Guns is going to be the next single, so that should make you happy. :)
GinnyPotter15 June 5th, 2009, 6:11 pm I am going to see them live October 16th,
i own their new album, though it is definately not their best.
BUT there are some really really good songs on it.
I love Viva la Gloria's little girl version, 21 guns, and before the lobotomy. But this album is definately not their greatest at all. Anyway, seeing their earlier work I would say that makes up for this album, my love for greenday didn't decrease. :)
xhanax315 June 5th, 2009, 9:25 pm That's too bad, but to each his own. At least you like some songs off the album. Did you hear, 21 Guns is going to be the next single, so that should make you happy. :)
Hmm....I had not heard that, thanks for the info. ;)

My love didn't either, just a bit disappointed.
deathplce4myhed June 6th, 2009, 2:31 am Eh, not a fan of there new cd..didn't by it or anything, but I have heard songs...the "Know Your Enemy" one is the most repetitive thing in the world..and they were on some radio station doing and interview and they played like songs from the cd and they were terrible...my brother was like who is it...I was like all these songs have been Green Day! he was like "there terrible" or something...:no::no:
GinnyPotter15 June 6th, 2009, 10:37 am My love didn't either, just a bit disappointed.
Yeah, I was kind of dissapointed too, but then I read alot of reviews on the album before I even ordered it and they already pretty much warned me it's not worth that much. But there's still songs on there that I like to listen over and over again, but nothing will ever top Jesus of Suburbia, Basket Case, Wake Me Up When September Ends...
xhanax315 June 9th, 2009, 10:11 pm xhanax315 i adore the song from ur siggy, I have their new album and seeing them live in October!
I adore this song as well, I never knew Billy had a softer side of him. I hope you enjoy the concert, and let us know how it goes. :)
punx92 June 10th, 2009, 7:55 pm I adore this song as well, I never knew Billy had a softer side of him. I hope you enjoy the concert, and let us know how it goes. :)
i like that song too :P
when i first heard it i loved it cause of the difference between all the other Green Day songs. but i knew he had that softer side cause of the first 2 Green Day albums 1039+Kerplunk

Personally in my opinion i think every song on 21cb owns American Idiot by a mile (except of course JOS). American Idiot is their 2nd best album in the eyes of Critics and Record Sales but yet again in my opinion i think much different. although i really enjoy it i think it is one of their not-so-great albums. The best Green Day album in my opinion is actually Insomniac and it is underrated because of Dookie. Dookie sold 11 million copies in North America alone where Insomniac only sold over 4 million copies but the album was 5X better than dookie. I doubt 21cb will sell as much as American Idiot but it is better. Everytime Green Day puts out a big album the next album is always underrated but better than the last. Green Day always takes what they learn from those huge experiences and puts that and more into their next albums
Fawkesfan1 June 16th, 2009, 12:04 am I finally heard '21 Guns' -- another new song off of their new album... it was pretty good. It's a thoughtful song that has good lyrics to it.
mac_attack June 20th, 2009, 2:52 am I've never been much of a Green Day fan, I've liked some of their stuff, and disliked other stuff, but I really like their new album. I think it's kinda cool that you can hear the way their songs have changed as they've matured and changed.
xhanax315 June 22nd, 2009, 6:48 am Okay, so I viewed the video for 21 Guns; I guess it's pretty good. They're videos are usually. I don't know what's up with Billie though, is it just me or does he looked wacked? And did they get like a new band member or something, because I have no idea who that other odd-looking guy was? :hmm:
Freak of nature June 27th, 2009, 6:09 pm I have to admit that I fell in love with one of their song, the Peacemaker. I like the melody of it and the words are really fitting when you think about it. Earlier I couldn't stand the band... at all. It annoyed meto no end that it was called punk, because to me, punk is Sex Pistols, the Ramones, Dead Kennedys and Misfits. That was punk to me and Green day was wayyy too lame. But I guess that I have gotten soft in my old age. :D
punx92 June 30th, 2009, 8:05 am i hate the 21 guns video
a_lonely_road November 20th, 2009, 5:34 pm I went to one of their shows in October. It was ****ing brilliant. <3

That's Jason White, he does second guitar. :)
harrypotter99 December 1st, 2009, 2:08 am GREEN DAY ROCKS!! I love Know Your Enemy and 21 Guns. 21Century Breakdown was probably the best album they have yet. I went to their concert in August I think and it was great.:rockon::lol::lol::D:D:):)
dumbledores1fan December 1st, 2009, 1:09 pm I'm just getting into Green Day, and so far I love them! All of their guitar solos are brilliant and is their music in general!
I like Know Your Enemy, 21 Guns, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, and American Idiot. So far. Any other great songs by them I should listen to?

Yes, try songs from their albums Dookie or Nimrod. Being a Green Day fan for about ten years, I'd say their older stuff is definitely better than their new. Not that I didn't enjoy American Idiot, but their latest was a tad disappointing. My favorite album though is Warning, which is really sad because it didn't get attraction as their last two albums.
FirstOne617 December 2nd, 2009, 1:28 am I agree. I like Dookie a lot. I think it's their best album. I like American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown but they're just not as good as the old albums were. And again I agree, Warning was a very great album.
Tonks_Animagus December 2nd, 2009, 8:32 pm Although I don't really like the band, I just love Know Your Enemy and 21 Guns! :D
LoonyLovegood77 December 2nd, 2009, 9:45 pm I remember when I was little by dad would turn on the Nimrod album really loud while he was washing the dishes and I would spin around the kitchen. The song I remember most is Time Of Your Life, and that's my favorite song of theirs. I listen to all the old songs my dad used to blare in the kitchen now and they are some of my favorite songs
rich_505 December 17th, 2009, 2:42 pm Went to Sheffield to see them, best night of my life. I've booked to go to Wembley next June, it's going to be a BLAST! Looking at my Green Day Mega-Playlist in iTunes not one of the songs played that night isn't on there, I couldn't have asked for anything more. Well maybe Who Wrote Holden Caulfield would have made it a tiny little bit better ;)
What's everyone's thoughts on - http://www.spinnermusic.co.uk/2009/12/03/green-day-with-american-idiot-cast-21-guns-song-premiere/ - The American Idiot Musical Cast's version of 21 Guns? I'm pretty impressed by it, I think they've added a whole new dimension to the song. I really do hope that the musical comes to the UK, I'm itching to see it!
dumbledores1fan December 29th, 2009, 7:19 pm I've listened to a few more songs off of 21st Century Breakdown, and I'm really enjoying it! I'll try to listen to some more of their albums though!
GinnyPotter15 December 29th, 2009, 8:47 pm their concert was without a doubt the very best concert I have ever been to, and will ever go to. I can say that they are the best live act ever. They only did maybe 3-4 songs of 21st century breakdown, and all of the other songs were off the other far better albums. They did every single song I love. All my favorite songs, and way more. They played 2,5 hours straight, and I cried when it was over. Amazing amazing amazing.

Awesome. I've never been to one of their concerts before. Glad that you really enjoyed it :).
Raven_Girly June 8th, 2010, 11:34 am I saw Green Day live for the first time last December. It was definitely the best show I've ever been too. They are an excellent live act, Billie Joe is absolutely captivating. The setlist was amazing too. I had so much fun. :D

Warning is completely underrated. Not my favourite album but one of.
merry18 June 9th, 2010, 12:02 am I guess I;m super late in posting how I felt about 21c. breakdown, but whatevs!
I love it. I kept the CD in my car stereo for abotu four months after it came out. My favorite track depends on the day, so it's easier just to list my least favorites - Know Your Enemy, Last Night On Earth (it's beautiful, I just like fast-paced stuff more), and Viva la Gloria (the little girl version).
People give them flack for not singing about poop and getting it on with yourself anymore, but these guys are reaching 40. With kids. It would be weird if they still sang about that stuff. Their music is maturing as they mature, and I think it's still pretty awesome. Much more "punk" than some of their earlier stuff, since they sing about real world issues now and they're early songs are mostly just about being bratty (which I love).
I still overwhelmingly favor their early stuff on a single-song basis, and I would probably pick Dookie or Nimrod if forced to pick a favorite album, but AI and 21CB are superior albums in terms of songwriting, instrumentals, and overall musicality. As long as they don't tame their attitudes and put out an album that sounds like U2 in guyliner, I'm good.
I loved 21CB, but I hope the next album isn't another rock opera. Two in a row is enough - anymore would be tired, especially since a lot of people think two in a row was tired.
ProtegoTotalum June 21st, 2010, 5:14 am Been obsessed for going on five years. My favourite band. I'm absolutely thrilled that AI is hitting Broadway--it's about damn time my boys started taking over the world.
As to favourite albums and whatnot...I think overall it might be Warning, which is fairly depressing as reviews declared it one of their worse albums. To that I say...Waiting?! Blood, Sex, and Booze? Misery?....whatever.
I haven't seen them live yet, though, which sucks beyond all reason. When I got into them they had just stopped touring, and then they didn't do so again till these last couple years...and have not come to Ohio. And I can't afford to travel. So frustrating.
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. They can go to freaking Saskatoon, Saskatchewan but they can't come to Cleveland.
_mollywobbles_ August 20th, 2010, 5:19 am Love Green Day! I have for about 10 years.
Fave Album: Warning
Fave Song: two-way tie between 'Basketcase' and 'Warning'
Fave Video: 'Warning' and 'Redundant'
TubbieHead August 20th, 2010, 2:27 pm uhh so many GD fans here =)
I am also one hehe
Love them so much, I can't even tell. Their just my life based band.
The Foxboro Hot Tubs are amaaazing, I want to see them live ='(
Only been to one GD concert, it was last year, 28th September in Lisbon. I got to go to their soundcheck too, that was the most amazing experience ever.
About the favourites
I hardly can pick a favourite, song or album, one thing I love about their music is that it's soooo varied. They've got like these multiple "eras" whatever you wanna call them, that you can totally see a difference and progression in between the albums, another amazing thing about them, is the brilliant lyrics Billie writes, and how their music is always expressing what they think about stuff, feelings, with all the honesty in the world, whether it is about the high school love troubles, girls, masturbation, rebellion or politics and love...
My favourite albums of theirs are American Idiot, Warning, Kerplunk! and also 21st CBD =) But I really love them all.
Whatever they do next, I'm sure it's not going to disappoint me.
Oh I forgot to mention the favourite songs
I always say that Jesus Of Suburbia and Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) are tied in 1st place
Then, I loove One Of My Lies; Android, 80 (the love *.*), Paper Lanterns, Christie Road, iViva La Gloria!, Fashion Victim, Minority, Deadbeat Holiday... Gosh, they are so many xD
Least favourite, I don't like to say I have a least favourite, but the one I skip while listening to an album is Know Your Enemy, and all the overplayed stuff. It doesn't mean I don't like them... But huh, I admit that KYE isn't that good.
Btw
Anyone from GDC? I am Tubbie Head there too.
Aurelium August 20th, 2010, 7:04 pm yooosh, so many GD fans here O: That's fantastic!
My favourite songs by far are Castaway, Going to Pasalacqua, Fashion Victim, Deadbeat Holiday, Time of Your Life, Minority, Misery, Jesus of Suburbia, Viva la Gloria (both ! and ?) anddd You Lied. Brilliant brilliant songs that I could listen thousands of times and never grow tired of. <3
Sadly they never once came to Israel, like many other artists, but... fingers crossed, maybe one of those days they will. Or maybe one day I'll be able to afford to see them in Europe/US. We'll see. (:
TubbieHead August 20th, 2010, 11:00 pm ^ I'm really happy to see so many fans here too =)
I'm sure they'll come to your Country some day, this tour they've played in places they had never played before, so.. One day they'll get there =)
I'm also planing to see them in other places, doing like a "tour" around Europe or US, to follow them and meet all the amazing fans out there hehe That's a must do, on my list.
