My dog ate my homework aka admit to not really liking your pets

I've never been much of an animal person. I don't dislike them, and I will always speak out against harming/abusing animals, but I don't really like being around them. My family has two dogs that I am not overly fond of - especially after they ate my shoe, several books, lots of cardboard boxes and yes - homework. For real.

Please discuss here things your pets have eaten or otherwise mangled, and other situations in which you don't really like your pets.

When my cat was just a kitten, she liked to chew on my rubber jandles. Eating shoes sounds more like a dog thing but apparently cats so it too...:grumble:
Also in her younger days she liked to leave dead animals (birds, mice, lizards etc.) under my bed. I wouldn't realise anything was there until it started to smell after a few days. Gross! Thank goodness she has grown out of those habits!

Thank goodness she has grown out of those habits! One of my dogs brought in a live mouse which took up residence in the basement laundry room and took months to get rid of.

Rex eats everything. Cardboard boxes, the bunny's toys, my stuffed animals, towels, pillows, a chair, the couch, his bed, his other bed, boxes full of tissues, used tissues, full rolls of toilet paper, a different chair, quilts, the carpet, rugs, water bottles, paper plates, empty chip bags, basically you name it, he chews it.

On a different note, he enjos licking books. Not eating them, licking them. It was so funny when we found that out. We were holding up different books, and he was licking all of them, then I held up Romeo & Juliet, which I had to read for school, and hated, and he turned and walked away. Good dog!!

It's funny how I own to cats and am not a cat person...I love my kitties, but still...that is rare. Every previous cat before my recent ones hated me.

Sandy likes to tear up tissues, eat cough lozenges, and has been known to chew up an emery board and pumice stone. She also enjoys lip balm. Once she chewed on the canister of an asthma inhaler until it popped! No harm done, though! :)
Barney is a dedicated "counter-surfer", he once ate most of a loaf of raw bread dough. Fortunately, we were able to make him throw it up before his stomach expanded too much. :p
The worst was probably when we had four dogs in the house, and they all came down with a tummy bug, one after the other. Every day for over a week we'd come home to different (and stinky!) messes on the carpet. We now own a carpet cleaning machine. It's wonderful! :D

My dog once managed to get his paws on a thing of superglue. I have no idea how, but suddenly he was just sitting there chewing on a superglue container. Luckily we found him before he got any glue out, but I can hardly imagine what sort of disaster it would have been.

My family's old dog had a couple good stories.

First, there was the time my mother left a note out for my dad saying "chicken's thawing on the counter". My dad got home, no chicken and an empty dish. He calls up my mother "you forgot to put the chicken out". Mom says "no, I didn't". Dad looks over...yup, the dog ate the entire chicken and licked the plate so clean no one could tell .

Second was when my mother cooked rhubarb muffins (for some unknown reason). The dog got into them, and she didn't like them either. My mother was still finding them in the hiding spaces she chose 6 months later .

We didn't properly socialize my German Shephard when he was a puppy. Now we can't have him around people that aren't in the family. Not his fault, it's ours I know, but it is quite annoying. We tried to get him used to my friend Erika, which we have almost done, but it's hard and takes a whole lot of work and attention.

We're pretty sure my dog was abused when he was a puppy, because when we first got him he freaked out whenever either of my grandpas would come over. He got all defensive, and barked at them, and bared his teeth, all that sort of thing. He got used to one of them quivker than the other, maybe because he has a dog, too, but my dad's dad he just wouldnt go near. So one time, on the way over, he stopped at a gas station and bought some beef jerkey, so everytime he came over after that, he would give my dog a little piece of it. And now dog loves him!

I can't stand over-excitable kittens. I'm terrified of them and they irritate me when they bite and scratch. Other than that no other animal (except spiders :eeep:) have any real effect on me. I've never been the biggest pet lover having only owned one pet. The mistreatment of animals can get me in a rage, but other than that I can happily live without pets :D

I don't have any problems towards the dogs we have or used to have, but we did have two brood *****es for the Irish Guide Dogs association - which meant that every few months or so we would have a litter of 5 or more puppies. Which was great at first because they were so small and adorable. But when they got to be 5 or 6 weeks old, just before they would be taken away and placed with families, they got to be so annoying, that you weren't able to move outside the house if they were let out because our legs would be torn to pieces! So...that's what really annoyed me!

When I was 5, I had a kitten named Waffles.

He liked to chew on my Barbies. And so now, all my really old Barbies that I've had forever, with the hideous 90s makeup...have holes and dents in them.

He also liked to chew on people's toes. :D

But I loved him anyways!

I'm starting tuba again next week, so I decided to bring it home over the weekend to get in dome practice before I actually have to play at school. Well the tuba greatly fascinates the dog, who feels the need to sniff every single inch of it. So I just stood it on the floor, and let him sniff around it, and he licked the mouth piece!!! EWW!!!!

No way, when I was little I had a puppy named Waffles!

When I was in primary school a girl in my class tried telling our teacher that her mum had accidnetly used her homework as bedding for her rabbit or something. Of course it wasnt true, but last week my rabbit actually got into my homework  hes an indoor and outdoor rabbit and Id left my homework in the living room (how he got in the living room, I'll never know) and it now has many scratches on it.

Also my rabbit is cuter than me, which is very annoying :grumble:

We hardly even notice it here until it starts to build up in the corners, after the shelties it's really not too bad. I still have sheltie hair stuck on some of my clothes even after multiple washings.

Same here but they don't appear to do much for our cats' hair. It's actually gotten to the point where I'll avoid buying black clothes if I can because it's so easy to spot the hair of our grey cat on anything dark coloured.

My dog likes to eat socks and pegs. He goes nuts if he's not outside when we hang out the washing which is quite annoying.

The other night someone near us was setting off fireworks and my dog HATES them! He managed to open the dog gate and run into the living room and jumped onto the armchair. He wouldn't budge and we couldn't move him because he weighs 9 stone. (He's not overweight, he's just very very big for his breed)

Okay, I don't currently own any pets, but my mother-in-law has this dog...
Oh, how I hate this dog.

I didn't always hate her. She is seriously disturbed, and hates everyone. She bites people and barks a lot. I think part of it is that whole small-dog complex thing. She is a little rat dog. But I used to be nice to her, and for some odd reason she has always loved me.
That changed when I had my son.
This dog was and still is so spoiled that she would actually try to bite my baby (now 2 1/2) and she started acting out by peeing everywhere - the couch, the carpet, the rugs, even on beds if she managed to make her way to them. My father-in-law hates the dog, which I find funny. But the dog still likes me. She listens to me, as well. I'm one of the few who will discipline her, and probably the only one who will discipline her that she actually likes, as my mother-in-law pretty much lets her get away with a lot.

I have even had dreams of punting this dog like a football across the yard...

I love my cats, but sometimes they can be a bit of a pain. Especially one of them.

He loves scratching the furniture, so we can't let him in the living room without supervision. Squirting him with water and making him leave the room help short-term, but not long-term. He also loves to chew. He chews on my flip-flops if I leave them out. We have to be careful with Christmas decorations because he'll chew on those, too. One year, he tried to eat a lightbulb off the strand of lights on the tree.

He eats stuff he's not supposed to, so we have to be careful to sweep up so he doesn't get anything. One time, I dropped a small craft feather on the floor while he was sitting there, and in the second or so that it took me to lean down to get it, he'd already eaten in. I also have to be careful knitting when he's around, because he'll sneak up and chew the yarn.

He also has an attitude. When told, however nicely, to do something he doesn't want to do, like get off a piece of furniture, he'll protest loudly (which sounds something like, "EHHH! EEEHHH!"), and will sometimes swat at us (which is usually for show. He likes to act tough and even as he does it, he's usually getting off the furniture or whatever).

Hey, I'm sorry--I just can't admit to not liking my pets. I adore them, love them, and get so much pleasure from them. But...this being said, I have become aware of a new study that may explain some of our behaviour and why we love our pets (namely dogs, in this article--but suspect kittens also have this ability):

"Research Shows Puppies Cause Brain Damage"

BERKELEY, CALIF. (ARP) -- A joint research project has been underway at the University of California at Berkeley between the Animal Behavior department, and the Psychology department. The research is providing new insights on what causes people to act strangely around puppies.

"It appears that there is a portion of the canine brain that actually emits, and can focus, an electromagnetic field. This field, especially when focused, can shut down or alter certain areas of the human brain. This seems to be an evolutionary development in canines from close contact and the symbiotic relationship between our two species over thousands of years", explains Dr. Brian Proabe, Ph.D., head of the canine/human mind control project at U. C. Berkeley.

Startling data derived from M.R.I.'s of both human and canine volunteers, and electromagnetic experimentation, now proves why humans will often revert to baby talk, discontinue focus on tasks, and suddenly find dog saliva and foul-smelling, canine puppy breath desirable. Symptoms include glazed over eyes, odd cooing noises and, in more extreme cases, even drooling and loss of verbal skills. Puppy Mind Control, or P. M. C., can also cause victims to think destruction of clothing, furniture and other property to be acceptable, and even adorable, when unaffected humans would find this distressing.

Is there anything we can do to combat P. M. C. ? "Yes", answers Dr. Proabe. "We've found that just a simple thing as aluminum foil can block and reflect these focused electromagnetic waves. All puppy shoppers should wear foil, cranial, protective devices before making decisions. And new puppy owners should be prepared to utilize these cranial devices for the first nine months of close contact with their new puppy. This will allow humans to be able to think clearly, be in control of their own minds, and make decisions concerning their puppy unimpeded by P. M. C.. The foil, cranial devices should also decrease spontaneous puppy purchasers who often purchase a puppy while under the puppy's control, then wonder what happened later. The addition of a foil hat for the puppy itself would be an increased measure of safety."

I love my mandy. She's a toy Shih Tzu. Now mandy is five years old and she still thinks she's a puppy. My mom was helping me move my bed last night so I could vacuum. Well...there were about ten cotton balls all chewed up! If she sees a paper towel on the floor it will automatically be shreaded. When she was a puppy though and less than 5 pounds my fathers tool belt was on the porch and when he went to turn to get something he saw her dragging in into the living room. And that thing weighed more than her!

And then there is Sammy. My older sister's ferret. Well...when my sister gets annoyed with him automatically she will put him on my bed and run to her room. For some odd reason when I have to babysit him I always seem to be doing a paper. He walks on the keyboard and everytime he walks on it while I am online the help screen comes up.:err: He is always biting wires...which scares me. And, he is just so hyper and crazy like he has a sugar high.

Now my older dog just threw up in the dining room.

lol okay well this topic made me me smile a bit today. My bird Tweety Girl passed away during the night...everyone's a mess today. We don't want to spend christmas without her. My mom, I think wants to cancel it. She was a cockateal and ten years old but she was never really healthy. She layed too many eggs and she had this cyst that would fill up and would have to be drained. I think she had enough. She bit me one last time before my mom brought her to the doctors. A good-bye to me.

Well I just started a thread on snakes but this is a good place to rant. My Honduran Milk snake is very big, very strong and very curious. She has a habit of escaping her tank (thank god when we're home!). Just in the past few months she has managed to get inside the couch and wrap herself around the springs, go inside my husbands recliner, squirm in between the barrel and shell of the washing machine, and get under a gas stove. In the case of the couch and the washing machine we tried to pull her out but she is so strong that if we pulled hard enough to get her out we would have hurt her. I've been tempted to trade her for a tamer snake but then she looks at me with her little red eyes (she's an albino) and curls up in my shirt and I just can't let her go....

1: My dog won't chew or lick anything, but he licks the floors all the time for no reason, even at night or when he's laying down. Not even his paws, the floors, and it makes everything sticky!
2: The cat I've got now (foster cat) is so bad when I have to take him to Petsmart, he hisses and bites every time we have to get him in his cage or out.
3: My old cat was diabetic and we had to give her shots all the time... it got really tiring and difficult.
4: My hamster hated me.
5: My sister's cat bit everybody's ankles whenever they'd be in the same room as him. It's like he's trying to cut of the machinery at its base.
6: 2 cats: Amos and Andy. The most horrid cats ever, they hated everybody, and I had to keep them for a month or so. "Old lady cats", through and through; toxic to the bone, hated being around people, and only liked each other.
7: My aunt's cat is never around and whenever you get within a 50-ft radius she bolts outside.
So many bad experiences, so little time.

Ok I need some naughty dog stories to make me feel better about my dog.

I have an 8 month old Lab puppy named Charlie. And he is sooo cheeky... this is what he has done so far...

Eaten 2 mobile phone chargers
Eaten our phone line 3 times, disconnecting our phone and internet services
Escaped from our yard and gone and sat on the porch of a house round the corner and a block away (when he escaped, he got past 3 full garbage bins, 3 fences and a gate)
Dug holes so deep that he's exposed pipe
Eaten every single sock I own, including the ones I've bought since
Stolen my bras from the washing and chewed them into nothingness

So please tell me other people have dogs who are just as naughty!!!

I have a grumpy ginger cat that:

tries to kill you on the stairs...:grumble: (He walks across you on purpose when your on the stairs, on of these days he's gonna b crushed under someone's shoes!)

He knocks on the letterbox endlessly at about 3am in the morning unil somone lets him in!

No matter how many times i take him outta my room and off my bed, i'll find him sat there the next minute!

He sicks up inside the house and relieves himself where he pleases.

He runs into my neighbour's house and helps himself to their pets dogfood and catfood!

He goes to the trouble of sleeping:

On beds,

In drawers,

On the sofa,

in the washing basket with newly washed clothes in it,

Even in the sink!!!

He also likes to pull the carpets up and terrorise the cats on my street. He's a fat, ginger tom! Jamie also thinks it's funny to, when your back is turned, steal the newly prepared food on the surface-top!

Any one got a more evil cat?

My puppy (even after she lost her puppy teeth) has accomplished:

Chewed through SIX king sized down comforters (once you think she's grown out of it, she does it again)
Chewed 2 electrical cords. Luckily they weren't live.
Completely consumed 4 squeaky balls (yes, they come out the other end....)
Dug out 2 sprinkler heads in the backyard.
Steals, runs, hides and then chews on socks, underwear, belts, bras...
Chewed the back of our leather recliner
Climbs over baby gates
Ate 9 DVDs
Somehow finds pens and spills ink all over the carpet and her face
Opened the cupboard in the bathroom and ate: lip gloss, a blush brush, hair gel, a roll of toilet paper and about 60 Q-Tips

I'm sure I could keep going. :D

My new foster cat has incredibly sharp claws. All she has to do is lightly scratch you, and it draws blood! She digs her claws into everything, and when you try to pick her up off of a blanket, she will take it with her to the next room in her claws. You have to shake her up and down to get her to let go; it's so irritating! (Her name is Luna though!)

I Here's some news for those who don't like pets...
It looks like Cheyenne Wyoming has passed an ordinance to BAN ALL PETS:

Okay, now we all know that no matter how much you love your cat/dog/whatever-you-have they can be deliberately bad sometimes! You know those times when you come home from work/school and you find your newspaper shredded into confetti. Or when you go into your kitchen to find the trash conveniently strewn all over the tile floor, and "Spot" is laying in the middle of it eating a banana peel.

I am the owner of a lab/pit mix. Granted she is only 11 months old, she has done some very bad things over the months that I have had her. I know some things are accidents but there are times when I can tell that she deliberately disobeys me. It is cute and annoying at the same time. For instance, if she is getting into something she isn't supposed to, such as my laundry basket and I yell "Get out of there right now!" she will look at me, look back at the basket, look back at me, roll her little eyes, and run off with a freshly cleaned sock. I know she is doing it just to spite me!

I love my dog so much, but sometimes he can be a real pain. Sometimes he barks at nothing and he jumps around like crazy whenever there's food on the counter and he knocks into the cabinits when he's doing that so the cabinits keep banging because they don't close all the way. Over all my dog is kind of annoying, but I still love him (at times).

My dog is an annoying runt. But I still love him. He does things so often now, I just ignore it and go on.

Like when he decides at 3 in the morning that he wants to drink all his water and then whine for an hour until I get up and get him some.

Or when I wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom or something and I come back to find him curled up on my pillow, sound asleep. Which then forces me to lay around him or at the bottom of a TWIN size bed.

And let's not forget the numerous pens, socks, clothes, corners of my homework (I've actually turned in a worksheet missing the upper left corner), and water bottles that he's decided to take from me and chew up. I just sigh, take whatever he has, and go on with what I was doing.

Oh, Barney got is soooo much trouble today!
First, the husband-half of my roommates forgot and left Barney outside unsupervised. Barney dug several holes in the yard, going after whatever critters are tunnelling down there. One hole almost went right under the fence. So I had to prune back a huge bush that he was digging behind so we can get at the holes to fill them in. :grumble:
Then, the wife-half of my roommates was making dinner, and drained some grease from ground beef into a glass measuring cup, which she then left on the kitchen counter. Barney sneaked in after she left the kitchen, started licking at the grease, and knocked the cup onto the floor. Of course it broke, so there was broken glass and grease all over the hardwood floor, with three dogs all wanting to lick up the grease. :grumble: :grumble:
Fortunately, none of the dogs were injured, but Barney is on probation. Even though, IMO, what he did could have been prevented by the humans involved. We all know he digs holes and goes after stuff on the counter.... :sigh:

The dog i am talking about is the dog in my sig pic

When my dog was a puppy, he used to chew the dining table chair legs, the tassles on the white rug, my crocs-trainers-boots,the bookcase, the books ON the bookcase including sooe of the letters from my penfiends- the argos catologue-magazines-books of sorts, socks-he LOVED socks. he would pull them of peoples feet when they were sitting, or even standing, and chew them until they were like swiss cheese!!! Quite litterally!!! He also chewed the post when the porch door had been left open!! Otherwise he waas quite a good puppy!! lol!! Also when my dog was younger, He was never allowed in the hallway/bedroom area. only the lounge, conservatory, kitchen and outside. So whenever the hall door was left open by accident, my dog would sieze the opportunity to dash into the hall and into the bathroom... Returing moments later with the end of the toilet roll in his mouth. then he would go back into the lounge and run all over the place( round and round and round the sofa!) leaving a long trail of toilet paper on the floor!! And then just for the fun of it, he would lie down and start chewing it until he didnt want it any more. This meant instead of picking up nice clean and dry paper, we had to pick up soggy drooled paper instead.

i can also remember when he was sleeping he used to whine and bark in his dreams. it was quite funny sometimes!!

Please leave comments,.,

I love my dog, Francine. She's a very good dog.

HOWEVER.

Somehow Francine got hold of my Muppet Beaker stuffed doll. I've had this Beaker doll for years and he has great sentimental value. Beaker has plastic eyes, and well, Francine chewed up Beaker's eyes and slobbered all over his orange hair.

Beaker isn't in good shape. But I did manage to fill in the blacks of his eyes with Sharpie, file down his eyes with a nail file, and wash his hair with shampoo. (If anyone cares.)

I've never had a pet EAT my homework, but pet rabbits have definitely chewed on the edges of homework and textbooks. My brother's dog wasn't socialized enough, and so it's a bit of a pain to walk him if we encounter any other dogs; he's not aggressive, but 65lbs pulling on the leash isn't fun, and his barking causes other owners to think he's mean. :/

Ana-magus: Wow, that's crazy.. would it help to walk her more, and maybe help her get rid of some of that energy? My brother's dog isn't destructive like that, but he has SO much energy! He's a 4 1/2 year old lab and loves to run and goofily romp all over the place and loves being outside and loose - great country dog and likes guns fine, but you can't exactly take him hunting every weekend.. lol

Dog hair - it gets all over the place! I never really realised this until I moved in with my brother & his girlfriend. My parents never used to let our dogs inside so it's a new experience having four dogs living and sleeping in the house!

Yeah, that's a good point. Our old cat used to shed a good bit, and my brother's dog sheds like a BEAST. I don't mind and don't have allergies, but MAN. Hair EVERYWHERE, haha. My rabbit was shedding a lot around winter and has finally stopped (yay!) but her hair also gets everywhere. It's light and fine and wispy and you don't even see it but can feel it just tickling all over your face and nose after snuggling with her. And then I look like an idiot, swatting at my face at these invisible demons that keep tickling me. It's nuts. I love her though. ^_^ Good luck with the dogs. That's a lot - none inside, to 4.

For a while, I wasn't so sure I liked my rabbit. Partially the rabbit, and partially because the cage I had wasn't big enough since she'd grown and was hard to clean out (and needed it every day at least). Since then, I made her a pen, got a litterbox, and now love her a lot. ^_^ Easier to clean up, she has more space to lay around, and her cute little quirks become all the more apparent. She's still a bit nuts about getting fed though; acts like I've been starving her and charges for the food bowl before I've even got her food in there. Nutter. She's also kinda 'gimmegimme!!' with treats like raisins sometimes. xD

my rabbit does that all the time....

i don't like mine for the time being: she got into my mom's bedroom this morning and tinkled under her bed.

Let me start off by saying that I absolutely adore my two cats (Bagel and Muffin, both 2 years old) and would do anything for them, but goodness! Sometimes it's like chasing around two toddlers!

Bagel likes:
- pawing at the blinds so they bang against the window when I'm trying to sleep
- eating any human food I have laying out for myself as soon as he thinks I'm not looking
- running underneath my feet when I'm trying to walk, causing my already-clumsy self to trip over him (and accidently step on his tail numerous times)
- sneaking outside when I open the apartment door to come home from work in the mornings, causing me to drop everything and chase him down - and that little bugger is fast!

Muffin prefers:
- eating everything - jingle balls, rubber bands, toilet paper, kleenex, tissues, napkins, string, bits of leaves, bugs, q-tips, plastic bags, feminine hygeine product wrappers, pretty much if it even resembles anything edible, she'll eat it
- digging her claws into my couch whenever I go to pick her up
- hiding under my comforter and attacking me when I go to lay down

:D They certainly make life interesting, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

My dog is crazy, everybody in the family nicknames him "maniac".
He goes crazy when we go for a walk :/ attacking the other dogs, and everybody gives us a very annoyed look. Plus, he has a really big size, so he scares other people ¬.¬

Gala, the Papillon ***** is now one year old. Due to her size she cannot damage the house too much. However once she eat a hearing aid veeeeryyy expensive.
Of course, tearing tissues in a common, and every morning I have to chase her so that she gives me back my socks or my house shoes. And yes, sometimes she is totally aware she is missbehaving, you say her no, but she waits untill you don't look and gets the tissue!

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I have a very old cat (somewhere between 18 and 20 years old). He likes to herd all of us by walking really slowly in front of us. When you try to walk faster and cut around him, suddenly he has the energy of a kitten and will race you to wherever you're going. He's also pretty much deaf, so he yowls his fool head off as loudly as possible, and tends to not keep his food down sometimes. He sheds like crazy, which isn't his fault, of course, but JEEZ, there is long, fine, black hair EVERYWHERE no matter how much I vacuum.

He's not really as bad as the cat I used to have, though...that thing was heck on wheels. Every time you tried to pet her, she'd attack you with her claws, and she had some BIG claws. Same thing when my dog, who is the sweetest thing ever, tried to play with her. In the same thread, she also loved to crouch at the bottom of my parents' bed and then spring up like a ninja and attack my dad's feet. I can't remember all the things she broke by jumping up on tables and shelves...just when you thought you'd found a safe spot, think again! I'm probably forgetting a lot of the details...that cat raised so much Cain I can't even remember it all.

When this cat finally goes, I think I'm done with cats. It's just not working for me. Thank God my dog is the most well-behaved, loving dog on the planet; I think I would've lost my sanity if all three of them had been little devils.

One cat always runs away from everyone, and makes this horrible high-pitched noise. The other cat caused enough scars on my arms to make you believe I wrestle were-wolves in my free time. My dog just annoys me, the goldfish I honestly don't really care about, but he's one weird goldfish...

Are we allowed to shade between not liking our pets and loving our pets to pieces but not liking some of the things they do?

Because I don't like the deep gouge on my hand I got trying to bathe my cat yesterday. I don't like the holes in the carpet where she tries to dig under the bedroom door when MeMum is sleeping. I especially don't like the way she shreds paper, though she can't wreck my homework as I turn in electronic copies 98% of the time.

But I like my pet! She's the best ickle furball on earth.
