themagickeeper November 9th, 2007, 3:34 am This is for all the Aussies out there, or for the others who know what I'm talking about ;-p
You may of heard about the APEC scandel they were involved in!!
What do you think of the Chaser's?? Personally I love them. Have done since CNNNN. They are very good.
If you want to see what I am talking about, head to abc.net.au/chaser and vodcast the show. Just watch ONE. They are brilliant.
saz November 9th, 2007, 4:50 am I watch the show every week, but I do think that sometimes they go to far, like with the Eulogy song. I liked the episode of "If it life was a musical" this week - really cracked me up.
mac_attack November 9th, 2007, 7:45 pm I've seen a few things of their's online. They're pretty good, but I too think they sometimes take things too far.
The only thing I really don't like is that when you watch an episode online, (especially the dumb American one, which is one of my favorites ) you get all these people posting America-Hate in the comments. It's just sad that some people take that seriously. (Personally, I don't know anyone above 4th grade who wouldn't know a country that starts with 'U' ;) :p)
themagickeeper November 12th, 2007, 6:54 am Ukraine...uganda...united kingdom... united states...united arab emirates....Uruguay... lol now you know at least one! hehe
Yes, Life in a Musical was very good this week. my fave LIAM was the hammar song, and the mrs. robinson take off in the airport.
ladyblack23 November 13th, 2007, 7:42 am I love this show! Went to go see it live the other night. They are such nice guys! They hung around afterward to chat to everyone and they were very friendly. They're so funny! My favourite ever skit was the one where they had their US corrrespondant a couple of months back! It was so goood! And the other night with the MR Darcy skit was great too! I love them!
Nys November 14th, 2007, 3:52 am I love love love the Chaser's War on Everything... Sometimes its cringeworthy as they go a little too far but that's part of the show's charm... They're challenging conformity to big business and they clearly have no shame...

I agree
There is meant to be a new series in 2009 :tu:
Hysteria March 10th, 2009, 12:51 pm Yes I heard that too. I'm glad they took a year off but it's about time we were given some decent Australian comedy (or really, decent Australian TV in general).

Oh, really? I didn't know that. I thought they were done for good. I love this show. The current affairs segment was always my favourite. They just skewered Today Tonight (awful show) and A Current Affair.
Mad_Druid March 15th, 2009, 5:46 am I think that it was definitely the smart thing to do to have a break though.
Twycross March 16th, 2009, 6:34 am Yes I heard that too. I'm glad they took a year off but it's about time we were given some decent Australian comedy (or really, decent Australian TV in general).
I agree. Strange they stayed so mum throughout the U.S election year though, you'd think they'd have been gagging to do Palin/McCain jokes.

 I think all the Palin/McCain jokes were done for them...

A couple of the guys did a weekly half-hour show on JJJ in the lead-up.
Loucura March 22nd, 2009, 3:57 am Ahh, the Chaser's. I can't get enough of them! Absolutely love their show!

A new season? Woo hoo! I agree, ACA and Today Tonight are terrible shows.
I loved the episode where they dragged the Trojan Horse around Sydney. I thought it was hilarious :) And when they tried to get access to the Turkish embassy:lol:
Mad_Druid March 22nd, 2009, 4:41 am I've always liked "Anna Coren's Segue/Meaningless Gibberish of the Week"
What did everybody think of The Eulogy Song?
Hysteria March 22nd, 2009, 3:51 pm I thought the reaction to the Eulogy Song was a bit over the top. Yes it is offensive but if people are going to be offended (in a way that IMO is) easily then they shouldn't be watching these kinds of shows.
Mad_Druid March 23rd, 2009, 6:59 am I agree. It was offensive, but it was spot on too IMO.
Nys March 27th, 2009, 7:24 am What did everybody think of The Eulogy Song?
I remember watching it and the entire way through gasping and saying "they can't say that!" and then killing myself laughing. I am glad that they stopped themselves from saying anything about Rove's girlfriend of the time (can't remember her name) cause at the time it was a little too fresh to trash her...
Still think the main reason old Johnie Howard was angry was because they trashed Don Bradman (which if you watch anything on the Chappel brother's during the cricket revolution (when one day cricket started) it was spot on on The Don).
Loucura March 29th, 2009, 8:33 am The Eulogy song was quite amusing when I first watched it. I couldn't help but laugh. Then I re-watched it and actually listened to the words and like Nys, was a little shocked. But I couldn't stop laughing.
It was a bit of an overreaction. You don't know what to expect from the Chaser's all the time, so expect the unexpected I guess.
Mad_Druid March 29th, 2009, 9:19 am Apparently what was shown was a tamer version. Chris Taylor performed it before in a stage show I think.

Yes I'd heard they'd toned it down and/or cut bits out but not specifically what... probably a good thing too.
Loucura March 30th, 2009, 8:40 am Wow. Tamer version? I wonder how much more severe it was...
Wab March 30th, 2009, 10:04 am I thought the reaction to the Eulogy Song was a bit over the top.
As usual the critics had the wrong end of the stick. The song wasn't about the people mentioned but about the way the media acts as if every celebrity who dies has lived a saintly life and would have cured cancer and ended poverty if they weren't busy doing other stuff.
Just look at the Jade Goody thing.

That is very true.
Nys April 2nd, 2009, 7:41 am Just look at the Jade Goody thing.
So incredibly true! Although to be honest I still have no idea who this woman is and why we're supposed to be sad (apart from the obvious reasons that death is sad) for her...
I still ADORE the lines..
Don Bradman was a total farce,
a grumpy, greedy tired-arse,
who couldn’t even score one run last time he played.
AND
Kerry Packer was a brothel chief,
a tax cheat and a kidney thief.
and procreating Jamie was the worst mistake he made.
Even though Packer did make one day cricket into what it is today
Mad_Druid June 14th, 2009, 9:30 am What does everyone think about the latest controversy with the 'Make a Realistic Wish Foundation'?
Hysteria June 14th, 2009, 10:16 am I think it was interpreted incorrectly. The feeling I got from it is that they were having a go at the Make A Wish Foundation and their inability to actually grant 'wishes' rather than having a go at the children. I can see why there were so many people who were upset by it but I think the reaction was too much. Someone was demoted over this. I think the suspension was enough.
Wab June 14th, 2009, 11:13 am Another over-reaction. As usual the ACAs of the world have grasped the wrong end of the stick as the PM whirls into hyperbole mode.
It wasn't about sick kids it was about the Foundation and the unreasonable expectations it raises.
"If you are concerned about sick children, donate to medical research or make it an election priority. Research works, and that is why children now survive diseases that were once terminal, such as leukaemia. Such charities pander to parent guilt and have become self-serving.
