It's just been announced that Freddy Stroma will be playing Cormac McLaggen in the Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince film. In the above link is a picture of the actor. What does everyone think?
Isla Sofia December 19th, 2007, 7:15 pm Both Cormac and Blaise look spot on!
-LilyPod
MrsPadfoot07 December 19th, 2007, 7:30 pm I can't wait to see this movie, I love the new editions to the flim freddy stroma will do good as cormac!:tu:
leah49 December 19th, 2007, 7:35 pm I'm glad they're putting McLaggen in the movie. I love to hate this guy. I never really had a vision of him in my mind, but that picture of Freddy Stroma looks like he fits well.
Severely Snapped December 19th, 2007, 7:43 pm Well. As much as I hate to sound like a dirty old lady, he's very cute. Almost too cute. Maybe Hermione chooses Ron over him, but I wouldn't!
JustAnIllusion December 19th, 2007, 11:24 pm I think he's absolutely perfect. For the first time, he's EXACTLY how I pictured Cormac! As long as he can act, I'm happy. Speaking of talent.. has he been in anything else?
:cough: But with the way he looks, does it matter? :cough:
Oh, sorry.. Bit of a cold, i'm coming down with.
Well, every American teenager can dream, can't she?
Tlx December 19th, 2007, 11:35 pm Great choice to play McLaggen, I always visioned that he would look like this in the movie.
Can't wait for this movie
AmeliaPotter December 20th, 2007, 12:14 am Wow, they did a really good job casting both Blaise and Cormac. They're both about as close as possible to my idea of what the two of them would look like :tu:
fattoad December 20th, 2007, 12:37 am Well. As much as I hate to sound like a dirty old lady, he's very cute. Almost too cute. Maybe Hermione chooses Ron over him, but I wouldn't!
Agree. :D
Both of them look perfect!
MasterOfDeath December 20th, 2007, 5:21 am In the book, Cormac Mclaggen is described as a large wiry-haired seventh year Griffindor youth who likes to go hunting Nogtails in Norfolk with Rufus Scrimgeour before he was minister of magic. Burly, tall, broad shouldered and jock-like. I always pictured him with blond hair. He looks perfect! Maybe a bit nicer than Mclaggen (supposed to be a jerk) but I hope he can act!
Btw, did you gals find Mclaggen's character attractive in the book or is just the actor's good looks that is making you swoon?
Mad_Druid December 20th, 2007, 6:18 am I've always imagined McLaggen with blonde hair, quite tall and broad, but not fat. Freddy Stroma looks fine to me.
mac_attack December 20th, 2007, 7:21 am Whoa...I didn't think that McLaggen, Zabini, or Romilda Vane were actually big enough characters to be introduced...I kinda figured they'd leave Zabini out, have Hermione just ask any random extra out to make Ron jealous, and cut the entire Romilda thing...heaven knows they've cut enough characters from the other books. Color me surprised!
I didn't really have a McLaggen pictured. I honestly don't think he'll have much of a part unless they invent one...he wasn't in the book that much! But as long as he can act, I'm good with it. ;)
Fury December 20th, 2007, 4:51 pm I didn't really have a McLaggen pictured. I honestly don't think he'll have much of a part unless they invent one...he wasn't in the book that much! But as long as he can act, I'm good with it. ;)
Same here! I never had a good picture of McLaggen.
Though I have been thinking. I wonder if McLaggen, Zabini and Belby will be in the movie the way they did Dudley's friends. You notice them, they may have a couple lines, but they aren't in the movie THAT much.
LoonyMagic December 20th, 2007, 4:58 pm OO-ER!
Isn't he cute! ;) I had a picture of Cormac in my head, and he doesn't look like him - he looks way better! :D
Does anyone know how much acting experience Freddy Stroma has?
sticky December 21st, 2007, 9:33 pm OO-ER!
You've got that right!! ohhhh....:D
i didn't really think about what he would look like...it never seemed that important to me....but that is pretty hot  i thik he looks great for the part
popcornzyum December 21st, 2007, 9:42 pm They're going to find it hard to make it believable that Hermione chose Ron over him!
iluvsnape17 December 21st, 2007, 9:55 pm he looks great but I didn't see him as that good looking. Zabini looks perfect
katishere December 21st, 2007, 9:59 pm I pictured Zinbini a little bit different but Cormac is pretty close. I pictured him just a little bit stockier though but the same square jaw. I think he's almost a little too cute.:p
leah49 December 21st, 2007, 10:00 pm Whoa...I didn't think that McLaggen, Zabini, or Romilda Vane were actually big enough characters to be introduced...I kinda figured they'd leave Zabini out, have Hermione just ask any random extra out to make Ron jealous, and cut the entire Romilda thing...heaven knows they've cut enough characters from the other books. Color me surprised!
I, too, thought Zabini would be cut and the most we'd get of Vane would be mentioning her in passing like when Harry recieves the chocolate or Ron eats it, but not actually seeing her. I think it's cool they've cast all three characters.
bumblybee December 22nd, 2007, 12:20 am I'm surprised he's in. He's better looking than how I pictured the character, but most of the actors are better looking than their characters are supposed to be. I just pictured Cormac as the typical buff, tall jock. They're going to find it hard to make it believable that Hermione chose Ron over him! :love:Not everything is about looks. Cormac is completely arrogant with a scary temper and an elitist conceited attitude. He also spends most of his date with Hermione trying to grope her and it's so bad she hides from him. Why she doesn't swoon is beyond me...
All they have to show is his personality versus Ron's personality and the fact that he's too aggressive for Hermione and no one will be surprised she doesn't really want to be with him.
It does make me wonder though if they're going to include the party and Cormac's involvement in the Hermione-Ron-Lavender business. They announced the casting of young Sirius and Lily and the rest of the Marauders but they had like two seconds of screen time. I can't imagine that Blaise Zabini has more than one line in the film. So it is possible that Cormac is only in one small scene relating to Quittich and never used again. He hasn't been mentioned at all when the Lavender stuff has been brought up.
iluvsnape17 December 22nd, 2007, 4:18 pm as long as they make him enough of a muppet it will be clear why Hermione chose Ron
LoonyLuny December 22nd, 2007, 5:42 pm I imagined him pretty much like that ... I guess he'd better be stupid and narcissic enough...
Aw come on people ! Rupert is better looking that him [most of the time]. 'Specially with red hair :D
Hysteria December 23rd, 2007, 9:50 am Freedy and Louis look great!I imagined Cormac with longer hair but otherwise they both look great. Im really impressed (as long as they can act).
Montse December 24th, 2007, 5:13 am well, she didnt fall for Ron for his looks, and if this guy is cute but is a good actor and makes the audience hate him as I did in the book, well then its going to be pretty obvious why Hermione rather be with Ron...
JustAnIllusion December 24th, 2007, 7:22 pm They're going to find it hard to make it believable that Hermione chose Ron over him!
It gives Ron all the more reason to be uber jealous!
greenlova January 2nd, 2008, 6:22 pm He looks just as I pictured him. Spot on :D
Alucinor99 January 2nd, 2008, 10:18 pm Im kind of excited that their including all these characters, McLaggen, Zabibi, Romilda Vane and Katie Bell and Leanne. I never thought they would have included any of them, they seem to staying very close to the book this time. I guess they want McLaggen, so they can show Hermione making Ron jelous as well. It seems they will spend a lot of time on the romance, and school boy/girl stuff that goes on in this book, with McLaggen and Romilda both being in it.
Fury February 22nd, 2008, 6:15 pm I found this just now... it is a modeling site with Freddie Stroma...
http://www.selectmodel.com/site/select.aspx
If it doesn't show him right there, go to men, select by name... E-G... and you will see him there.
Fawkesfan1 February 22nd, 2008, 6:42 pm He looks just as I pictured him. Spot on :D
Same here with me. Rather cute, but with a hint of that arrogance and annoyance .
Nicknak March 15th, 2008, 10:16 pm Well. As much as I hate to sound like a dirty old lady, he's very cute. Almost too cute. Maybe Hermione chooses Ron over him, but I wouldn't!
Hahaha lol, me neither! He's SO much better looking. He wasn't exactly as i'd pictured him but he'll do... he'll definitely do! :D :D
EmmyRocks March 15th, 2008, 10:19 pm I found this just now... it is a modeling site with Freddie Stroma...

Is that him? Are you serious? OMG he's so hot!!!!
sunshinehannah April 5th, 2008, 9:05 pm He looks just right for the role, as does the guy playing Blaise. Are there any pics of the girl playing Romilda Vane anywhere?
They're going to find it hard to make it believable that Hermione chose Ron over him!
Agreed!
Lucybird May 25th, 2008, 4:03 pm He looks pretty much how I imagine, maybe a bit less chisled but you can't have everything
Raven_Girly May 30th, 2008, 3:22 am Great choice for this one! He looks very much as I imagined him.
lily_potter73 August 22nd, 2008, 7:05 am I'm glad to hear that they'll include him in the movie, I thought they'll just cut all his parts. He doesnt look bad tempered like Cormac.
bellatrix93 September 8th, 2008, 3:28 pm He's just how I pictured Cormac, they did a great choice :tu: but I think Ron is better looking  Hermione chose Ron because he's a good person not just a good looking person.
Joga_Bonito September 9th, 2008, 8:43 am Lets be honest here, in real life Ron would be royally screwed and would have his work cut out for him:lol:
lilyrose October 20th, 2008, 11:31 am HE'S ABSOLUTELY HOT:drool:
Too hot to play Cormac McLaggen..but I'm not complaining:p
Lets be honest here, in real life Ron would be royally screwed and would have his work cut out for him:lol:
Yep..I agree:agree:
Hysteria October 20th, 2008, 12:31 pm I'm going to be incredibly superficial and say I'd choose Cormac too
potterposse November 8th, 2008, 1:26 am hahahahaha! I could picture him to play McLaggen! :D He looks a bit different in my head but this guy could probably pull it off. :D
I agree with Leah, I love to hate him too. :D
Marina November 8th, 2008, 3:21 am I believe that, looks wise, they appear right for their roles; for some reason, I never really had a clear picture in my head of what those characters look like. :hmm: But I will leave my opinions on acting until I've seen them in action. :)
KlausBaudelaire July 16th, 2009, 2:23 pm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tIY6d-N_aE I wonder why he didn't dance in underwear like this in the film, during the slug party: box office would break every record.
sticky July 16th, 2009, 11:13 pm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tIY6d-N_aE I wonder why he didn't dance in underwear like this in the film, during the slug party: box office would break every record.
 could you imagine...suddenly him standing up at the dinner party and dancing....would have been hilarious :rotfl: *cant stop staring a his chest* !!!
Absolutely loved him as McLaggen :rotfl: some of his scenes were funny.
EvilRaven July 18th, 2009, 9:42 am Cormac is much hotter than I expected him to be. *fans self*
skrewtmaster July 19th, 2009, 1:52 pm  could you imagine...suddenly him standing up at the dinner party and dancing....would have been hilarious :rotfl: *cant stop staring a his chest* !!!
Absolutely loved him as McLaggen :rotfl: some of his scenes were funny.
Now that would have been the icing on the cake!!!
I thought he was a great Cormac, why wasn't there some more McLaggen action?? :rotfl:
Pearl_Took July 20th, 2009, 11:50 am Freddy shone in what must have been a wonderfully enjoyable cameo role.
He was PERFECT: ever so handsome :eyebrows: and annoyingly arrogant and shallow.
The dessert scene at the Slug Club cracked me up. :rotfl: You could feel poor Hermione going, 'Ewwwwww!'
And McClaggen throwing up on Snape's shoes. I just loved that. :rotfl:
lcbaseball22 July 20th, 2009, 12:04 pm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tIY6d-N_aE I wonder why he didn't dance in underwear like this in the film, during the slug party: box office would break every record.
Err ok, I'm now sorry I clicked on that link  Damn my curiousity! :p
As a straight guy I agree that he is extremely handsome and I'd love to look like him and have a body like that, but I really didn't need to see that...that wasn't what I expected. I think it's a double standard how if that were a shirtless girl it would be considered porn :relax:
BTW, does anyone else think ACNE is a TERRIBLE brand name? :err: I'd like to know what they were thinking when they named it that...
So yeah, Cormac was quite a highlight of the film. Freddie played the exceedingly arrogant jock very well...hilarious at times too
Kanksha July 20th, 2009, 1:00 pm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tIY6d-N_aE I wonder why he didn't dance in underwear like this in the film, during the slug party: box office would break every record.
:wow:
Wow! *Can't stop staring*
The dessert scene at the Slug Club cracked me up. :rotfl: You could feel poor Hermione going, 'Ewwwwww!'
And that, boys and girls should be a lesson for everybody. If you're staring at a girl as though you want to eat her, it makes no difference even if you look like a Greek God. The girl will say 'Ewwwwww!' :p
That says a lot about his acting though, even I cringed when I saw him.
He really did very well as Cormac!
BTW, does anyone else think ACNE is a TERRIBLE brand name? :err: I'd like to know what they were thinking when they named it that...
Who's looking at the brand name? ;)
HollieWeasley July 20th, 2009, 1:06 pm I don't really like Freddy Stroma, to be honest...but i must admit he is a great Cormac.
Rich July 21st, 2009, 10:11 pm Stroma was perfect in my opinion. He did a good job with the scenes that involved both him and Hermione. When they were at Slughorn's party eating ice cream, it was hilarious!
Spinners_End7 July 21st, 2009, 10:13 pm I thought he had the perfect attitude for Cormac. I dont have any complaints, I thought he was great :)
xhanax315 July 21st, 2009, 11:49 pm Freddy shone in what must have been a wonderfully enjoyable cameo role.
:rotfl:
:agree: Very well said. :eyebrows: I absolutely loved the Snape part. I think Stroma played offed McClaggen's part well, considering he's not really a major character. I don't think they could've picked anyone better for the part. :eyebrows:
FluorescentQ July 22nd, 2009, 12:49 am I never pictured Cormac to be quite so good looking, but I'm not complaining! He's gorgeous, and he seems like an incredibly sweet and sincere guy in interviews. I absolutely loved him.
AnneAnne July 22nd, 2009, 2:13 am I have to agree with FluorescentQ, I never thought that Cormac was supposed to be attractive, he was never described to be so really. But I think that Stroma was great! He did a wonderful job, he was so funny! Just the way that he looked at Hermione, was hilarious.
SevrusSnape July 22nd, 2009, 3:29 am I thought he was pretty good, his comedy was pretty funny, I did enjoy his little fly trick he pulled off and when he threw up on Snape and just had this look on his face that was so perfect...job well done
nmwing5 July 22nd, 2009, 3:59 am I think the Cormac character in the film was excellent! He really brought a touch of humor to the otherwise dark times the movie of course had to chart. The "fly catch" was a great add, and I loved it!
hestiajones July 22nd, 2009, 9:35 am Loved him, although, yeah! i thought mclaggen would be this huge, hulking "Moose from Archies Comics" kind of guy. he is very, very attractive...too attractive...
Googlie July 22nd, 2009, 10:11 am He makes a very good Mclaggen. Actually he was pretty much like how I imagined him. The way he looked at Hermione in the Slughorn dinner was totally perfect
And ya, he's cute! ;)
DH_epicwin July 22nd, 2009, 10:51 pm Not quite I think...I expected him to be more annoying...but he didn't get much screen time in the movie except for the awesome seductive ice cream part. I would have liked to see him being a hindrance during Quidditch and smoking Harry in the head with a Bludger. Maybe then I would have liked him better.
Googlie July 23rd, 2009, 6:26 am Not quite I think...I expected him to be more annoying...but he didn't get much screen time in the movie except for the awesome seductive ice cream part. I would have liked to see him being a hindrance during Quidditch and smoking Harry in the head with a Bludger. Maybe then I would have liked him better.
True. It would've been good to have that scene. Would have made Mclaggen look like the irritating, interfering fellow we know from the books. But they couldn't possibly have had another Quidditch scene (though they could have brought in that bit during the tryouts).
ally_xx July 23rd, 2009, 6:30 am I think Freddy was a good choice, he is exactly how I envisioned Cormac :)
SybillOnWheels July 23rd, 2009, 7:15 pm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tIY6d-N_aE I wonder why he didn't dance in underwear like this in the film, during the slug party: box office would break every record.
:drool::love::drool::love::drool:
He's not how I imagined Cormac while reading the book, but hey, he's delicious! He played the arrogant jock well. :tu:
Hes July 23rd, 2009, 8:05 pm Let's focus on his acting not how hot he might be. This site isn't a celebrity drool site, thank you.
Mad_Druid July 24th, 2009, 3:47 am I really enjoyed Freddy Stroma as McLaggen. He had the arrogance down pat and brought a great deal of humour to the role.
It looked like a fun part to play
DH_epicwin July 26th, 2009, 5:44 am I think appearance-wise he doesn't fit the bill at all. I always imagined him to be chubby. I don't ever recall reading that he was attractive, just that he would (and i'm paraphrasing) "be so wide that he'd make a good keeper without even moving". I liked his performance, but the arrogant jock side needed to be there. Honestly, in the movie, Cormac wasn't really disgusting and arrogant (besides the ice cream part) he was an attractive, poised, decent athlete. His sole function in the movie was for Hermione to show her affections for Ron, so he clearly lacked some of the awesome slimy toerag tendencies. To make a long story short, I would've liked more Cormac.
captain Sparrow December 14th, 2009, 9:53 am I thought his was too goodlooking to be Cormac McLaggen, I always thought he was very annoying...more arrogant than goodlooking. In the movie, I don't think he was as arrogant and annoying as he should have been...They could have found someone better to act Cormac, but that's just my opinnion.
Picko December 14th, 2009, 11:50 am Let's focus on his acting not how hot he might be. This site isn't a celebrity drool site, thank you.
Although I reckon if it was you'd post here even more :p
Hes December 14th, 2009, 11:53 am Although I reckon if it was you'd post here even more :p
Oi! There was a time you were the blue and I wasn't... but now it's the other way round so watch it you!
Picko December 14th, 2009, 12:21 pm Oi! There was a time you were the blue and I wasn't... but now it's the other way round so watch it you!
Haha ... you'd never do that to me. I'm much too nice :)
Hes December 14th, 2009, 12:42 pm Haha ... you'd never do that to me. I'm much too nice :)
No, you are right, I am too nice :D
But ehm we are going horribly off topic, bad us.
