mariebeth83 December 22nd, 2007, 4:49 am Well there doesn't seem to be a thread for this, so I thought I'd ad one.
I often find myself listening to a certain song and having it remind me of certain times in my life, for example Kaiser Chiefs "I predict a riot" reminds me of my first time going to a festival.
And I also hear songs that I love and decide that they will be played at specific events:
Green Day - Good Riddance is going to be the song played at my funeral while my first dance (if i ever get married) will be to Aerosmith "I don't want to miss a thing"
I was just wondering does anyone else do this and if so what are the songs that soundtrack your life???
LoonyMagic December 24th, 2007, 1:30 pm Great idea for a thread! :D
I often find myself listening to Machbook Romance's Tiger Lily. I completely represents my love life, and how hopeless I am at it .
And I would love Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - My Guardian Angel to be played at my wedding. I love that song! :D
8m57w6 December 26th, 2007, 6:35 am I think for my wedding song, I would have "Messge of Love" by the Pretenders. For my first dance, then after that, "Safety Dance" and "Love Shack", just to be ridiculous. :D
Hmm... for my funeral... "Stop Your Sobbing"??? No, huh?? Well then on a more serious note (mind you it is 12:45), how about "Into the West". Sad yet hopeful, and very pretty. My favorite song.
Hamka January 8th, 2008, 4:47 pm I would also pick "Into the west" by Annie Lennox to have at my funeral ..Or "Harvest of sorrow" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azSD6itEvTs by Blind Guardian.
For my wedding , i would probably pick "The bard's song" by Blind Guardian .. It's not romantic but it shure is a beautiful song.
Fawkesfan1 January 8th, 2008, 6:57 pm Well at my high school graduation, "Dream On" by Aerosmith was played as the class song :D.
For my funeral, "Time of Your Life" by Green Day would be fitting.
LBuccalo January 8th, 2008, 7:09 pm I love this thread. I do this all the time. For instance when I first started my divorce the song was Here I Go Again On My Own as well as These Boots Were Made For Walking.
For my funeral I want them to play "I'm Too Sexy" by Right said Fred. Just to make everyone laugh, its one of my favorites
Once the divorce started getting ugly I really related to Hit Em Up STyle by Blu Cantrell, but I (unfortunately) didn't spend on anything fun, just joint debt.
For my wedding I would like God Only Knows by the Beach Boys played at some point.
I have a ton of others, but I am going to be late picking up my kid from school.
houseelf25 January 8th, 2008, 9:42 pm lol I have so many songs that really mean something to me. i even wrote one of my college admissions essays on songs that mean a lot to me.
i go through phases with what i listen to, and right now i'm in a kind of "showtunes" mode, so every single song i hear from, say, rent, avenue q, or hairspray, reminds me of something in my life.
i think that for my wedding, if i ever get married, i would want to play "everything" by michael buble. it's such a pretty song! :D
i would totally request that my family play "Time of your life" by green day (even though it is kind of cliche) at my funeral. closely followed by the numa numa song by ozone. just to lighten the mood.
am i the only one who has songs that remind them of harry potter characters? i'll admit it, i've made mixes of songs that remind me of harry potter. they're some of the cds that i listen to most :p
amandaevans May 31st, 2008, 5:52 pm Cancer by My Chemical Romance on my funeral. The end. :p
Fury May 31st, 2008, 6:23 pm If I ever get married, I will be dancing (with my mom!) to Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle, and same if I have a daughter and she gets married! I absolutely love that song.
HermyMacGo June 1st, 2008, 2:04 pm If I ever get married, I'd like to dance to Des'ree - Kissing You.
And for my funeral, I really have no idea, but I don't want it to be sad, I really would like the songs to remind people of my life...
rich_505 June 1st, 2008, 2:35 pm Funeral: Green Day - Good Riddance, yeah I know it's a breakup song but none the less the lyrics fit!!
Rammstein - Reise, Reise reminds me of my first gig abroad (Denmark) which was one of the best experiences ever. Train to London, plane to Denmark, train from airport to Copenhagen, rush to hotel, drop bags at hotel and run to venue, watch Rammstein, sleep, do the travel all over again in reverse.
Paramore's Riot! always reminds me of working on a clients website, adding over 1000 products in a couple of hours to meet their deadline. Odd!
Morgoth June 10th, 2008, 10:43 am Burn - Nine Inch Nails. I love a good ballad
Corvus June 10th, 2008, 1:28 pm I'll make it onto my testament that none of my greedy relatives wont get a dime of my billion dollar inheritance if they don't play Eric Idle's Always Look On the Bright Side Of Life at my funeral...And everyone has to whistle!
LoonyMagic June 10th, 2008, 4:56 pm I think that often if I could soundtrack my life so far, it would be Love Today - Mika, because I appreciate life and just like to have a laugh :D
padfootrules June 13th, 2008, 1:45 pm "Highway to hell" by AC/DC would be played at my funeral and for my wedding I want "Anyone else but you" by The Moldy Peaches... I am quirky and these songs fit my taste... Besides I don't want anyone forgetting my funeral
10_MinutesAlone June 13th, 2008, 3:45 pm The soundtrack for my life so far is either Whatever it takes by Joe Budden, 10 Minutes by Joe Budden or Stained by Joe Budden. They are pretty much all about being alone but aren't as emo as they sound now that I'm describing them.
The song to my funeral is going to be 'If I Die Tommorrow' by Joe Budden, because it's a good song and I'm twisted like that.
padfootrules June 14th, 2008, 7:43 pm Hm.... if a song has to describe me then I would have to say... Back in Black by AC/DC...I got nine lives
PureBloodGirl June 14th, 2008, 8:21 pm Anything that has songs about being bored, sad, tierd, depressed, happy, in-love, strange, and crazy. That'd be the soundtrack of my life, but frankly I've never heard a cd like that.
Saoirse June 15th, 2008, 4:46 pm Getting over a girl: Cryin'- Aerosmith
Wedding: I'd do anything for love- Meatloaf
Funeral: November Rain- GunsN' Roses
_LoonyLovegood_ June 18th, 2008, 5:58 pm Life In General: Fix You by Coldplay
Love: With or Without You by U2
Wedding: The Way You Look Tonight
Funeral: Forever Young
AliceLongbottom June 18th, 2008, 8:51 pm I think that if I ever had a song that described my life, it would have to be One Last Breath, by Creed.
padfootrules June 20th, 2008, 1:39 pm That's a great song :tu: I would have to say "All my days" by Alexi Murdoch
Well I have been searching all of my days
All of my days
Many a road, you know
I’ve been walking on
All of my days
And I’ve been trying to find
What’s been in my mind
As the days keep turning into night
Well I have been quietly standing in the shade
All of my days
Watch the sky breaking on the promise that we made
All of this rain
And I’ve been trying to find
What’s been in my mind
As the days keep turning into night
Well many a night I found myself with no friends standing near
All of my days
I cried aloud
I shook my hands
What am I doing here
All of these days
For I look around me
And my eyes confound me
And it’s just too bright
As the days keep turning into night
Now I see clearly
It’s you I’m looking for
All of my days
Soon I’ll smile
I know I’ll feel this loneliness no more
All of my days
For I look around me
And it seems He found me
And it’s coming into sight
As the days keep turning into night
As the days keep turning into night
And even breathing feels all right
Yes, even breathing feels all right
Now even breathing feels all right
It’s even breathing
Feels all right
lil_snuffles June 26th, 2008, 3:52 am I often listen to "Dancing With Myself."
Decribes the story of my life. All I do is dance. :)
stina July 29th, 2008, 11:02 am I often think about things like this. For my wedding day (if I ever get married that is...) God Only Knows by The Beach Boys and/or Stand By You by the Pretenders.
On my funeral I want the song Hymn to Her by The Pretenders and Days by The Kinks to be played. Both my mum and dad says that they want Days to be played at their funerals as well. It's sucha great song.
The soundtrack to my life in general I think at the moment is either Daydream by the Lovin' Spoonful or Waterloo Sunset by The Kinks

vampiricduck September 3rd, 2008, 3:57 pm There's a great email going around about this, soundtracking your life according to a set of questions. The idea is that you put your MP3 player on shuffle and then just play each song. It actually turns out really really well. If I can find it, I'll post it here, but in the meantime,
Life: Talk Show Host, Radiohead
Love: Streets of Philadelphia, Bruce Springsteen
Wedding: River Flows in You, Yiruma
Funeral: The Call, Regina Spektor
I'm gonna go look for the email, and even if we don't use it here, it has some great questions involved that some of us would enjoy answering!
Hysteria September 3rd, 2008, 4:21 pm Love life: Cadence by Anberlin
Life in general: There's A Party Over Here by Deez Nuts (I'm assuming 99.9% of you won't have heard of this band or song but it's basically about having an awesome time,
partying etc :D Also some of the lyrics are bit... inappropriate so I won't post them)
When I'm feeling cynical: Fitter Happier by Radiohead
vampiricduck September 3rd, 2008, 8:43 pm Ooh, cynical is a good one. I think, if I'm feeling cynical, I'd go for "The Island" by Paul Brady. It's just such a caustic and cruel narrative of warring situations and the meaning of glory.
Of course, it's good for depressing moments too!
SadPanda September 4th, 2008, 8:50 am Simple my soundtrack alternates between It's Tricky by Run DMC and Party All The Time by Eddie Murphy
Ceilidh_ann September 4th, 2008, 10:27 am I've got my funeral songs all arranged (bit worrying, right?(
Through the Dark - KT Tunstall
She's Like A Rainbow - Rolling Stones
The Gravel Road - The Village Soundtrack
I want my first wedding dance song to be At Last by Etta James, followed by A Town Called Malice by The Jam.

I have never heard any of those songs! Weird! But I would also add "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica to my list. It's just really pretty!

Ohh good choice. My dad made me listen to them a lot as a youth.
If you get the chance, listen to Etta James, she is amazing. At Last is in my opinion the most romantic song ever.

Cool! Very nice! I'm thinking of others. When I'm angry, I listen to Eminem's Lose Yourself. Or when I'm caught up in studying or work, I love to hear mvoie soundtracks. LoTR, King Kong and Disney are amongst my favourite.
When I'm thinking things through?
Just Around the Riverbend, Pocahnontas.
House_Elf_21 September 8th, 2008, 5:31 am During a lower point of my life: Silence by Jars of Clay

Raven_Meadowes September 24th, 2008, 3:13 am Love: The Vines - "Atmos"
Funeral: The Vines - "Vision Valley"
I fell in love with the "Vision Valley" song ever since I first heard it.
And I know it sounds morbid, but I immediately thought "This is the song I want to be played at my funeral.. I want people to think of me, remember me, whenever they hear it..".
"Are you here forever standin' by the road
With the benefit of feelin' on your own
Where the river ends the sun is comin' down
Through the Vision Valley waitin' to be found..."

charli2205 October 1st, 2008, 3:03 pm When I was younger I wanted Bohemian Rhapsody playes at my wedding-just for the lulz.
My funeral all depends on how I die. If I die tragically young then Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley but if I had a good long life then probably I did it my way or Always look on the bright side of life. Whatever the circumstance, I also want I got my mind set on you by George Harrison. It's a happy song but always makes me sad because of George :(
When I am giving birth to my first child, I want Unfinished Sympathy to be playing for some reason.
Yeah I have it all planned out...:err:

amanduhrae September 28th, 2009, 3:18 am For my wedding, I really want to dance to the song "The Luckiest" by Ben Folds. It's such a sweet song.
And a band that truly makes me smile on a bad day is the Ballas Hough Band. Their music is really catchy but not too cliche that I just can't help but smiling.
And a musical I am in love with is Wicked. I sang Popular for a play my friends and I wrote, but the greatest story I have about it is what happened yesterday when I went to the fair and was riding the ferris wheel. There was a sign that said "For your safety, no single riders," and we all thought at first that it said no singing riders because someone was standing in front of the sign. But then when the person walked away we saw what it really said. And then when we were finally on the ride, me and the two other people I was with started singing Defying Gravity at the top of our lungs because, well, we were defying gravity! ;) When we stopped at the top, one of my friends started swinging our seat and I yelled at her to stop or we were going to die... she said that if we did die it would because we were singing, which we thought at first we wouldn't be allowed to do.
Sometimes when I'm with my friends, I sing songs that are really filled with swear words, like "B*tch went Nuts" and "Effington." And when I start singing, we all start to fake slap each other since we're all drama freaks.
And of course, we all love to sing and dance to songs that are way overplayed--like "I Gotta Feeling" by the Black Eyed Peas and "Down" by Jay Sean. We also like to listen to "Low," which is from the Proposal and no matter what, we always begin discussing the funny scene with that song in it; we can't help it!
katebright January 22nd, 2010, 9:53 am I came across caring.com (http://www.caring.com/search?query=funeral+songs) for some appropriate funeral songs.
I hope this helps

Grymmditch March 10th, 2010, 9:07 pm Interesting thread concept, I've thought the same way.
Being that I'm a musician and write my own stuff occasionally, I've already written my funeral dirge, and I also wrote, performed, and recorded my wedding song, which the wife and I danced to at our reception as first dance.
I like other music too of course. When driving, I love "Not Afraid" by Lacuna Coil.. that song makes you want to drive 90mph! lol
I've often said, "Life should have a soundtrack", wouldn't be cool if you could have that?
Obviously, today's mp3 players can deliver the capacity, but wearing earbuds 24/7 is not cool.
There's another way: bone conduction. In the '70s, there was a portable radio called the "Bone Phone" (or Bone Fone?) , and it transferred the music not by earbud but by directly, physically resonating the bone directly behind the ear. IOW, touch, so to speak.
It works, and the tech is being reevaluated today. No one hears it but you, and it doesn't interfere with your ability to hear everything else in your immediate environment. Now that would be cool!
NickHeartsMat June 7th, 2010, 2:40 am I have decided that for my funeral I want them to play "Smack my ***** Up" by the Prodigy. Along with that they will also have to play "I'm too Sexy" by Right Said Fred because those songs are pretty much my anthems  Besides, I don't want my funeral to be a downer because that just isn't me.
Hairband June 22nd, 2010, 3:14 am White Houses by Vannessa Carlton is pretty much the soundtrack of the past three years of my life, from age 15 to now.
It's about friendship and first relationships.... I love it.

THANK YOU!
Yeah my first dance at my wedding is going to be Nothing Else Matters, I don't care what you think!
And for my funeral, I think Everything's Not Lost by Coldplay is fitting enough.
n8squared July 30th, 2011, 1:50 am I'd have them play dead by mcr at my funeral xD

Lotoc_Sabbath September 10th, 2011, 10:28 pm i have to songs which always remind me of my love life and in which I often see moments I've past reflected, I have many others too but my main two ones are: Gate 21 Serj Tankian and Hollow Years of Dream Theater. These two are very, very deep and sometimes I think if they were actually in my same situation when they wrote them.

Yes, I considered using Hollow Years, but figured A Change of Seasons was more appropriate. Hollow Years is the only song off Falling Into Infinity I thought was any good, other than Lines in the Sand. In particular the Live at Budokan version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6k1VdgNeKE) has one of the best guitar solos I've heard - 4:40 to 6:45 is holy masterpiece material.

Tonks_Animagus October 23rd, 2011, 11:30 am One of the best ideas ever ^^
That would have to be Less Than Perfect by Pink for sure. Other than that, Tied Together with a Smile, Superstar and Mean by Taylor Swift, Imaginary by Evanescence, Nobody's Home by Avril Lavigne and Bad Day by Daniel Powter :)
