RIP Heath Ledger

I woke up to the tragic and upsetting news of Heath Ledger's untimely death this morning. I did not start this thread to discuss cause of death, or the hows / whos / whens of his death, I don't really think thats appropriate. Just wanted to put it out there, that this is truly tragic end to a talented and interesting man's life. Especially in light of the fact that he was only 28, and has a young daughter, this is a really horrible thing to have happened. My condolences to his family, and prayers that they are left in peace to deal with this tragedy.

I was shocked at the news. I have seen so many of his movies and really enjoyed his acting style... this just shook me. My thoughts and prayers to his family tonight. What an awful tragedy...

Poor Heath. :(

He seemed like a really nice guy, a good actor. I was shocked when I heard the news. If you'd asked me who in Hollywood I thought might die young, I never would have named him. :(

Rest in peace, Heath. :(

:upset: :upset: :upset: He was one of my favourite actors ever. I'm going to miss him so much. I've not felt like this for any celebrity that has passed away in recent years. :(

This was such shoking news that I still am a little bit in denial. He was sooo young! Just last week, the world lost another young person in Brad Renfro, who was only 25, and now today Heath. I really loved the way he acted and I respected him for choosing roles that would never had stereotyped him in any way. Such a horrible death. May he rest in peace.

I wondered when a thread like this would appear... I always look through the news articles on my homepage and was very shocked. It's extremely saddening since he was so young. I feel very sorry for Matilda, since she'll grow up without her dad :(

My prayers and thoughts go out to his family and friends, in particularly little Matilda. She's so beautiful and it's obvious her daddy loved her so much.

To echo DarkDaysAhead he's one person who I would never have thought this would happen to.

I totally agree with you all. I heard the news and I was like "you've got to be kidding."
I know it said we weren't going to talk about the hows, etc, but I really hope it wasn't a suicide thing.

I am very sad about this as well. I remember it was now more than 11 years ago when I first saw him on TV (Roar - sadly discontinued after only one season or so) and had an immediate crush on him. I can't believe he was only 16 back then. And I knew that he had a great career ahead of him. But this, I didn't expect.

I am in complete shock. I can't believe he died. My mom broke the news to me this afternoon and I was like "Are you sure this isn't a joke?" He was a wonderful actor. The last movie I saw was Candy and his performance was outstanding.

The other night I just found out that Kel Mitchell (Kenan & Kel) did not die in a car accident after all. Which I read in the newspaper about 7 months ago.

So I was hoping this was false as well.

Terrible loss for his family, friends and the acting world. One of those actors that didn't seem to like Hollywood and everything that goes along with that.

New Batman movie The Dark Night will be a surreal experience now...

This has hit rather close to home for me. I wasn't the biggest fan of his, but I'm only a few months older than him, and I have a daughter about the same age as his.

From what I have read, he'd been recently quoted as saying he'd been finding it hard to sleep more than a few hours a night. Given that he was found near several kinds of sleeping pills, it seems he accidentally overdosed. A sad loss for us all.

I was no big fan of his, even though I truly liked his performance in Brokeback Mountain, but the news of his death did come as a shock tonight. I didn't even know he had a daughter, the poor girl. I hope his family does all right, it must be so hard for his parents to lose their son.

I thought the same thing.

My heart goes out to his little girl. I broke down when they were showing pictures of them together. I know how much my daughter loves her Papa and depends on him. Papas and their daughters have such a special bond and my heart breaks for little Matilda .

I was very shocked when I first heard it.
I heard it on the radio when I woke up this morning, and I thought I didn't hear it right or something. So I put on my computer and went to the imdb, and there I saw I had heard it right after all.

I was shocked, and I'm still very sad...

Although it is indeed sad, I won't go as far to say he was a great actor. He was talented and had the potential to be great but he was yet to attain greatness.

I could not believe my eyes and ears when I saw it. I like to watch Fox News Channel and all of a sudden breaking news and that was on there. I was shocked! He was definitely an actor who had a brilliant future ahead of him. I have seen so many of the movies he starred in: Brokeback Mountain, The Patriot, Brothers Grimm, A Knights Tale and more!

Wow... yeah, I agree with whoever said that watching "The Dark Knight" will definitely be a really surreal experience.

My heart goes out to his family. Rest in Peace Heath.

I feel even more shocked today, as it's all sinking in now. He was always an actor that I loved and admired, and thought was a brilliant actor who could become one of the legends of the future. Sile's right about only the good dying young. If you'd asked me to name any celebs I thought might die this year he wouldn't have been at the top of the list, in fact he wouldn't have made the list at all. RIP Heath - I might not have known you as a person but I loved you as an actor.

It takes all kinds. Katherine Hepburn became fairly old. A lot of 'good' ones did. Which makes the losses of the young no less sad.

I read an article linked on CNN today, about him being unsatisfied with the usual parts he was offered - which shows his inclination to do more quality material such as Brokeback Mountain, in my opinion. All sympathy for his family left aside for a moment - we'll miss quite a few good performances from him now, performances he might have been more proud of. It's sad to think that a person died before they could do what might have made them happy, it doesn't even have so much to do with actual age.

I was incredibly shocked about this when I heard. It's so sad. New dtails, however, have come up. I found them here (http://www6.comcast.net/entertainment/articles/2008/01/23/Heath.Ledger/).

That's so shocking. I just can't believe that someone so successful and seemingly as happy as him would do something like that. It's really unclear, though, whether or not he meant to use the drugs incorrectly.

R.I.P. Heath Ledger. You will be remembered.

This is such a terrible loss... he had so much to live for. A great career which was getting even better, a 2 year old daughter, he was so young...
I found out because my friend had "RIP Heath" in her msn messenger name. I didn't believe it at first, like when I heard Steve Irwen died... some people you just cant imagine dying.. or you think it will happen to everyone else.
I loved his earlier movies (10 Things I Hate About You and A Knight's Tale) when I was younger... he had so much tallent.
Very very sad :(

I am so upset that he died. There just aren't enough words.....I wanted to literally start bawling when I read the news. I had to check the calender to make sure it was really January and not the first of April. I thought it was some horrible horrible joke at first. i felt like my world had collapsed when I read that he had died. I couldn't believe. I ADORED him. He was one of my favorite actors. He was smoking hot, he was talented and he had an accent! I fell in love with him after 10 Things I Hate About You, and A Knight's Tale. I didn't even know him personally but I am I feel devasted. Every time I read or hear about him on the news I start wailing to God asking him, "why, why did you have to take away Heath Ledger?" The way I talk you would have thought the people's long lost messiah had died and not some actor. It just makes me even more incensed when I see these other young celebs partying, abusing drugs and alcohol and they take everything they have for grant it. Every time I see Paris Hilton in the news now I wish it had been her who had died instead of Heath Ledger. I would trade her or Britney Spears just to have Heath Ledger back any day of the week. All of his fan sites are absolutely devastated. Its so sad that he had to die so young when he had so much going for him and to leave behind that little girl also who probably will barely remember her father.

When Kurt Cobain died I was too young to be interested in a lot of music yet so I never even knew who he was when he died. When Selena died, likewise I had never heard her music. When Aaliyah and Left Eye Lopez died I was so upset because I loved their music. When Anna Nicole Smith died I honestly didn't give a darn. I felt bad for her daughter having to grow up without her. When Steve Irwin died I was like, "what the crocodile hunter is dead? But I thought he would just live forever!" When Brad Renfro died I was pretty indifferent also. I remembered him from movies when I was younger but he hadn't really been in much lately. He too was a troubled young actor but talented. So when Heath died this was probably the first time I've ever truly felt so full of sorrow over the death of a celeb. My God, if anyone has to drop dead next please let it be Paris Hilton.

I, horribly enough, found out when a friend of mine posted it on a bulletin on MySpace.

Lots of rumors circulate around there, and I had a hard time believing it at first. But I looked on the AOL news page, and there it was.

I'm still feeling kind of numb about it. I do hope that there is a message at the end of The Dark Knight, commemorating him, his life, and his work.

Rest in peace, Heath. You will be missed.

When I first saw it on SMH.com.au, it seemed to be just a report that there were reports that he was dead. Then I read the article in full and realized that he was actually dead.

So sad- he's the same age as my sister and his daughter is the same age as my neice, so it kinda puts it all in perspective for me. I feel so sorry for his family and Michelle WIlliams and Matilda, and my heart just goes out to them.

The other night I just found out that Kel Mitchell (Kenan & Kel) did not die in a car accident after all. Which I read in the newspaper about 7 months ago.

There have been rumours going around that both Kenan and Kel, or just Kenan, or just Kel, had died, for years now. I remember hearing that when I was in primary school 11 years ago. Ditto Screech from Saved by the Bell. It's unfair when these rumours start, do people not know that they actually hurt people?

I was really shocked when I read this on BBCi yesterday morning. It just doesn't seem right, especially when there are still films waiting to be released that he has starred in, like the new Batman film, the one that's due out in May. It's so sad

I found out on here, actually. Someone said that they thought watching Dark Knight would be weird now that Heath Ledger was dead, and I was completely shocked. I thought it was a joke or something. I really didn't think it was real. And then in the morning I was watching the news and it said about his death, and it was just so surreal! I'm still really upset about it. I feel so bad for his family and friends and hope that they are doing well in the circumstances. It looks like he's done a great job in Dark Knight, and I look forward to watching it. :)

So, so sad. :upset:

Has anyone heard that the Westboro Baptist Church is planning on protesting at his memorial services? Ugh. I saw an interview on television about that, and I found it absolutely disgusting that anyone would even consider such a thing. His family is grieving his loss, and they're going to protest at his funeral? What kind of despicable person protests at someone's funeral? Isn't that supposed to be a time of respect? Even if you don't like him, or don't agree with some of the work he's done, let the poor guy rest in peace...

For some reason guys get depressed and lack that part of the brain that thinks "I'm too depressed - my brain is not working right - I need help". There isn't any conclusive evidence to say it was purposeful, as far as I'm aware. I'm going to trust his family, and some of my own reasons, and agree it was an accident.

I love Heath's movies, 10 Things I Hate About You, A Knight's Tale, The Patriot, Brokeback Mountain etc...He's an amazing actor with such range, depth and really able to portray a wide variety of roles. I suppose I should change my sentence to: He WAS an amazing actor....sad

And yes Daniel day Lewis's speech in honouring Heath was really touching. But I didn't particularly like that video clip they always show of actors who've passed away. It was obvious they prepared it beforehand, but didn't get enough time to put in Heath Ledger so they just shoved a picture of him in at the very end.

RIP, Heath, you will be deeply missed.

I still can't believe he's dead, even a week on. He was such a talented actor, and a brave one, taking on roles such as the one in Brokeback Mountain. And he was my first teenage crush in 10 Things I Hate About You.

I hate the way you talk to me,
And the way you cut your hair.
I hate the way you drive my car,
I hate it when you stare.
I hate your big dumb combat boots
And the way you read my mind.
I hate you so much it makes me sick,
It even makes me rhyme.
I hate the way you’re always right,
I hate it when you lie.
I hate it when you make me laugh,
Even worse when you make me cry
I hate it when you’re not around,
And the fact that you didn’t call
But mostly I hate the way I don’t hate you,
Not even close…
Not even a little bit…
Not even at all.

RIP Heath Ledger. He was an awsome actor! Your fans, your friends, and your family will miss you so much. For him to die so young is so heartbreaking and then for him to be killed by accidently taking an overdose of medicine is even more terible.
Even though it's been a couple of months it's still sad. I've only seen one movie that he was in and that was the Patriot. I can't wait to see his last movie though Batman Begins 2:The Dark Knight.
