So has anyone read anything by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes? She got her first book published when she was thirteen years old. She's absolutely amazing. Her first four novels or so were vampire-based stories, but she started on a series called The Kiesha'Ra. It's about shape-shifters called The Avians and The Serpiente. She's absolutely amazing. She's created such unique cultures with her shapeshifters, she makes them seem like they could be a community in the mountains somewhere. I love the relationships she creates, they're entirely believable and perfectly disfuntional, lol.
