My old brother always says that I'm mad and obsessed and that he regrets buying me the first book. My friends say that I'm too much mad for hanging HP posters in my room. Did anyone do the same with you?

I made fun of my friends a lot and then got addicted. I'm listening to the U.K. audio book of HBP right now.

Fortunately, no.
It seems my friends have accepted it. There is one particular friend who, every time we pass in the halls at school, says the same one word to me: "Snape". I think she enjoys hearing the high-pitched squeal I let out at hearing that word.

No, though my sister teases me a lot about it and my parents occassionally tell me such addiction to anything is not good for the soul. :)

My husband totally did . He said that they were books for little boys, of course after I asked him to watch the SS movie he wanted to know more of the story and by the time I was reading Prisoner he was begging me to finish so we could watch the movie.

Then we spent all last summer reading the books together

My mom also didn't like that I read them because she "read" somewhere that Jo was a witch . I was happy to set the record straight and gave her a bunch of reliable sources to check out.

No one taunted me for reading the books, really. Though there was this one time with this girl who was obsessed with Harry Potter, and she knew I was the only other person who read Harry Potter, so all she tried to do was start Harry Potter conversations with me at school. Eventually I made her realise that I didn't want to talk to her.

Well I guess there's a difference between being teased for reading Harry Potter and being teased for being obsessed with Harry Potter! :D

Anyhow, no, I don't get taunted. If someone sees me reading the book and ask me what it is, they kind of go "Oh..." when I tell them. I don't really blather on about Harry Potter so no one really knows I read it. When the movies come out I always ask if my friends want to go. My HS buddies took me to see Prisoner of Azkaban as a Graduation present.

If someone ever gives me any flack for reading the books I usually say "Well at least I read..." because that's all that really matters.

Actually, when someone sees me reading the books, it usually starts a conversation. Either they are fans themselves, or if they aren't much of a reader, they wistfully say that they've thought of reading it. With some people it's even easy to tell that if they were to read one book in their adult life, it would be Harry Potter. :D

Some of my friends who don't read much are amazed at how easily I can establish a rapport with their kids.

So no, even among adults I don't get any teasing.

Completely. My friends pretty much think I must be a readaholic to like the books at all, which is completely untrue (even if I have read many more books than them). My mom actually RIPPED apart my copy of OoTP because I was reading it too much!!!!!!I still can't get over that :grumble:. Of course I bought another copy, but it was paperback :grumble:, Anyways, other than that, everyone at my school thinks i must be a superreader of some kind by being able to read them in under 24 hours. I just ignore everyone, it would be painful to leave harry poter :p

At the time when Harry Potter was the main hype I did get a few people saying "Oh, Harry Potter sucks!" and stuff like that, but it never really bothered me. I have a lot of friends who have read the books and loved them. Now, I don't talk about Harry Potter with my friends or family so they don't really know how crazy I still am about it. And nobody (apart from my ex boyfriend) knows about CoS, but he wasn't really that interested in it anyway. I don't really get called a geek or anything because most people know that I'm really not, and I guess I'd say I'm quite popular, so that side of things has never affected me at school. :)

Most of my friends are anime fans. A few are LotR nerds. Almost all are video game addicts. We all have our "unconventional" tastes, which makes us more accepting of others "unconventional" tastes. That said, I have been taunted for other things, specifically my obsession with a certain baseball organization (which is the basis for my screenname).

I've never been made fun of for it, but to be fair, I haven't been in school or seen many people since I became obsessed. My mom knew when I started reading HP, but she doesn't realize how obsessed I am. I'm not planning on telling her all of the packages I keep getting are HP things that I ordered online. I did used to always make fun of my friend for being obsessed (but I make fun of her for everything she's obsessed with, it was nothing personal toward HP). Then, after her constantly bugging me, I finally read for myself. I think she regrets telling me to read it, I literally didn't stop talking about Harry Potter EVER for the first month, and I made her feel like a bad fan because now I'm 10 times more obsessed than she ever was.
Last night, I was at my other friend's house, and she asked what movie I wanted to watch, and when I opened my mouth she was like, "NOT Harry Potter!".
I'm so lucky I have this site, I'd drive my friends crazy if I could only talking about Harry Potter to them.

Yes, I have to say I have.
I dont think they meant to be mean about it, but people always give me a hard time about it. Especially my family who all are too "cool" to read Harry Potter, but in my opinion, theyre "too cool" to read anything. They call me a nerd, and that really doesnt bother me. I actually like being called a nerd, because people say it like its a bad thing to be smart or to raed. Its never a bad thing to be smart, in my opinion.
It bothers me sometimes because the series has honestly become a part of me, and I wish I could share it with someone close to me. My boyfriend and my sister will go with me to events, but they laught at me and dont really get why I want to dress up or participate in a Snape Debate.
I adore Harry, and I really hope that others who have been taunted for reading HP, are able to ignore it and not let it get in their stride. Its never a bad thing to read a book!

I've never been really taunted. Some of my friends raise their eyebrows at me for being so obsessed. Most of my friends have not read the books or haven't read all of them.

My family is pretty accepting of it. I got my sister addicted a few years ago, around when GOF came out. She's not as obsessive as I am, but she's close enough that we can have good Harry Potter discussions now and then. We started to write a Fanfic together once, but we never got it off the ground.

I think that for every friend a person has, you can pinpoint at least one "obsession" for each. It seems sort of silly that people should be taunted for reading anything (except, perhaps, for reading romance novels -- ick ), but, people being people, I know it happens.

I know many, many adults who read and enjoy the Harry Potter books, so it seems silly to me that a child should be teased about reading a series that it meant for children. :sigh:

when i lived in San Diego i had some friends over who were Evangelical Christians.

i like studying history, as long as it's a group activity. reasoning that the Bible is, among other things, a history book, i thought why not sit in a group and read the thing ? i figured they had a procedure for it already.

i showed them a piece of driftwood i had found. it was marked off to make a wand of 3 spires, i made a picture

the shape
http://www.geocities.com/wwswimming/wand_2_.jpg

in wood
http://www.geocities.com/wwswimming/wand__.jpg

what i showed them was just a piece of driftwood with magic marker showing where to carve it.

anyway, they were freaked out.

after i retrieved the driftwood from a desk, i acknowedged that yes, Harry Potter is a fairy tale, a work of fiction. fairy tale may not be a good word, i think of 'fairy tale' as something that you can read to a child before bed-time in a half hour or something.

anyway, since i needed to pack - i was selling the condo - and so, as an illustration of how the vision of something like an animated picture - well, we have animated pictures in the form of a movie or video game running on a laptop. so, some parts of Harry Potter are like science fiction.

anyway, i pointed the wand, and said "pack", pointed it another way, and said "pack", and did that 3 times. inevitably over the course of the next month, i did pack. so the murmuring of the word "pack" was like, saying my schedule out loud, demarcating it, preparing for hours of crumpling up newspaper to use as padding material. but, not a super big deal. i meant it to illustrate the harmlessness of Harry Potter to strongly held religious beliefs.

so much for that idea. this would not score me any brownie points if i worked in the Muggle Liaison office.

but, i was starting to hear about the devil. i may have said something about how Harry Potter is part fairy tale, part science fiction. me talking about Potter was upsetting to them, possibly as if i had challenged their religious beliefs. i showed them this piece of driftwood and then waved it, you know, swish & flick, a verbal flourish related to packing, like when people (in the cultural stereotype, Italians). their reaction was along these lines - "ooooh, a wand, oh no, this is really the devil."

i don't remember exactly what they said. might of made a funny Youtube video.

on a side note, i would think that the Ministry, in order to dress like Muggles, would have to wear Muggle jewelry, including crosses. i could get in serious trouble for showing a wand at a Muggle Bible study, that would be a violation of the Wizarding Secrecy act. i don't want to get sent to Azkaban.

Thanks for the support! :) They are not interested. they kinda consider it degrading, because HO has a reputation for being not only childrden's books, but also overly commercial and therefore bad literature. Which is a prime example of narrow-minded prejudice, but there are just too many people here who are intellectual posers and consider it beneath them to take any interest in anything with any amount of popularity. In a nutshell, the less people like what you like, the better. My friends are not like that, of course, but the general athmosphere gets to everybody, you know. They wouldn't read it - consider it a waste of time. I have several friends who have gone as far a sthe fourth book and say they got bored... No! My friends shared the same Harry Potter obsession with me, some with HP movies if not the book, which is so great as we can discussed Harry Potter to our hearts content...

My elder brother sometimes good naturedly comments that I'm a bit too obsessed but whenever I tell him some new revelations on HP world whether from the internet or the news he's always ready to listen and eager to know what happens. My brother's way too lazy to open a book he prefers the movies...

My mother is a different story. She always asked me whenever she saw me with HP book in hand if I ever get tired in reading the same 7 books over and over again, of course I told her no. I think it would be 20 more years (or maybe even longer, or maybe never!) until I get over with this obsession...

I think that, with the maturity meter in schools at a worringly low level, that near every Harry Potter fan has been made fun of for reading the series. It happened to me, but it was nothing that got me angry. For some reason, while the fifth book (I think it was?) was out, everyone kept telling me "Oh, I heard Harry Potter died in the last book LOL". But then some of them would go "I killed Harry Potter!". Then there was the old insult, you all know it "Harry Pothead".

Most of the same people in my High School that said these things came up to me early in the school year and asked me, quite seriously, "Did Harry Potter die?"

I've never been made fun of in a hurtful way. My friends don't really know about it apart from my best friend, and she just thinks it's one of my little quirks and only teases me a bit, but I tease her right back about stuff she likes. :)

My parents know I'm a little crazily obsessed over Harry Potter, (it's kind of hard to hide), but I don't think they really know to what extent. My dad teases me a bit about it, especially as I do things like when we went to movieworld and I ran into the Harry Potter shop and danced about when I saw it.

Another of them is kind of a lit. snob, and she just assumes that because I love Harry Potter more than Lolita, I have no taste (even though my collection of classics is much more extensive than hers). The last of them is also a fan, so she gets me. :) Most of my friends either don't care or are fans themselves.

No, not really. A couple of my friends make fun of me, but in a lighthearted way. Unfortunately none of my friends are really into the series. A couple have read all the books but that's it and they wouldn't think about reading them again. I'm definitely the only one out of all of my friends who is really obsessed with Harry Potter, so I expect a little bit of stick every now and then, but I've always been open about loving the series so it's not too bad.

My boyfriend makes fun of me, though he always says he is joking. I'm at the point now, though, where I hide the book when he comes over (considering I'm always reading them, so there's always one at my bedside).

I also get made fun of by my parents a lot, though this may be because I had a brief stint in superfandom: I hosted a massive HP event at my school last year, complete with performances, wizard rock, games, a movie marathon, and contests. I was in charge of the whole thing, so I had to be constantly immersed in the series because of planning necessities.

My whole family laughs at me. They just kinda poke fun at me because I'm so obsessed with it. The worst times were the book releases. I went to the store at midnight to get the newest book, of course, and they laughed and thought I was nuts. Then my brother tried to tell me the ending (which was, of course, posted online already) so I barricaded myself in my room and didn't come out until I'd finished the book. I had a supply of poptarts, crackers, and water stashed in my room.

My brother always taunts me for reading Harry Potter, because they're "childish" (Never mind that he's 20 years old, and still watches Tom & Jerry reruns and eats Lucky Charms at home  ). No one else does, though-- many of my peers at my high school are fellow Potter fans, and the books are widely accepted where I live, and quite popular among all age groups as well; I have several professors who are Potter fans!

Oh definitely! The weird thing is, it's not from people that haven't read the series or dislike it. I get it from the ones that read the books. They aren't mean but they find it amusing that I could be so passionate about the books. One time I was venting to my friend about the fandom and what they say about my favorite characters and my two friends started laughing because they say I talk about it like it's real. I don't really understand why people find the need to taunt others for being passionate about a book. If I was passionate about a band, would it be the same? I really enjoy the series, that's all. :)

I used to be that person who made fun of people over Harry Potter. I had one friend who was really into it and my brother was too. I made fun of both of them over it, but mostly my friend. 17 was too old, especially for a guy. He should be into cool things, not little kids' books. My brother was only 12, so he wasn't too old. But I always made fun of him anyway, so Harry Potter was just one more thing I could throw in there. Then one fateful summer day between my junior and senior years in high school, I was very bored. You know the "end of summer boredom" that I'm talking about. That point where part of you wants to go back to school, just so you have something new to do. The type of boredom that Harry experienced in the beginning of OotP. I was so bored and desperate for something to do that I picked up my brother's copy of Sorcerer's Stone and started to read it...

Now I'm completely obsessed. Some people make fun of me, but I really don't care. They say I'm too old for HP but I don't think I am and that's all that matters. I constantly compare everything to things that happen in Harry Potter (see above paragraph) and everybody seems to find that funny and/or weird.

I never really talk about Harry Potter alot, especially to my friends because they aren't really Harry Potter fans, some read the books and most watch the movies but none of them are really hard core fans. The only times, I find myself discussing Harry with them is when they say something about it that is so wrong that makes me want to scream. Like once, my friend said there was no time period in Harry Potter and I practically screamed at her the entire timeline. :rotfl: And one of my friends acts all knowing about Harry Potter even though she's only a movie fan. "Voldemort doesn't wear shoes" "That's not canon!" "Well, they had dance lessons" "Just in the movie! Sigh. They don't make fun of me though.

Who does make fun of me though? My mom and dad. Constantly. I disagree with them alot too. My mom thought the main canon couple would be Harry/Hermione...and my dad called Dobby evil and Ron a chicken. No one insults Ron in front of me, if I dare quote Hagrid :D

Quite the opposite, many of my friends seemed to embrace the books. I've kind of grown up with them, and for the most part people are either truly enthused or truly disgusted with the books. rarely do I talk with someone who has either never heard of the books, or is somewhat neutral on the topic. One of my friends absolutely hates the books, for reasons yet to be discovered, and he goes bonkers when my friends and I recite quotes and talk about the books. I'm not really sure whether it's that Harry Potter is a book, or a story about wizards that provokes kids to make fun of others over it. I suspect it's a combination of both. I'll never get upset when made fun of reading a book, especially about wizardry :p . If they don't want to read it, that just means more for me hehe.

I got taunted a few times, but too many. When I first read them, I hung out with people who were reading them too, so there weren't too many that could make fun of me. I did have this one friend who was a fan, and she always said the name like something else just to aggrevate me, like Harry Potty or Hedpig or Dumbledork. Now days, people respect that I'm a Harry Potter fan and they don't really say much about it. My friend came to my house one day, and I let her see my room, her jaw dropped to the floor because every wall is covered with Potter posters. All she said was "Wow, you're really obssessed." It was rather amusing. My other friend who seen it was just amazed that I had so much. I went to one of my friend's house, and her was was so ridiculous, it had to make fun of her......

When I was in Grade four (6 years ago) I had a weird way of reading books. I could be immediately hooked or I would give up straight away. Harry Potter hooked me. I walked around my school reading it. I didn't eat at lunch but went straight to the playground and sat down to read. Not many people took notice because I really only hung out with two girls and they both caught on and started reading it with me. But the 'popular' girls called me a freak and that I should get a life. Back then, finiding out what happened in the end of each book was my life. :)

No, nobody taunted me exactly, but I sort of felt embarrassed about reading them when I first started. My mom bought me the first two for Christmas or a birthday when I was 13, I think it was; I had never heard of them and thought they looked stupid. But I was bored one day, so I picked up the first one and liked it a lot, so I kept reading them. But it wasn't until I started on POA that I actually knew how popular they were; to me they still seemed like weirdo fantasy/kid's books, so whenever I would bring POA to school to read between classes or whatever, I'd always try to hide it. But people started catching me at it, and I was pleasantly surprised when people always said "You're reading Harry Potter? Oh, I love those books!" So, I guess I was kind of taunting myself in that case.

The only other time I can think of was something a guy at my part-time job last year said. Me and a co-worker had both bought DH a couple days before (the midnight release) and had started reading, and I guess we must have been talking about what we'd read so far one day at work, and another co-worker overheard us. He came up to me and said "You're reading the 7th Harry Potter book?" And I said "Yeah. Do you read them at all?" And he said "Yeah, I've actually already finished the 7th book. I could tell you how it ends if you want." Of course I told him no and ran away from him before he could say anything. He kept sneaking up on me for the rest of the shift, trying to say something, and I had to keep dodging him. Then when I was punching an order into the computer (I was a waitress), he snuck up behind me and said "It ends with Harry's and Dumbledore's gay wedding!" Needless to say, I smacked him with my order pad.

Actually I had thought that I'd be nearly the only one who did the midnight book thing from my law school and was pretty surprised to find a group of others from my program also waiting in the line. I arrived on my larger motorbike, and they seemed to find it hilarous that someone like me would read Harry Potter. But then we started making guesses about the outcome and everyone forgot about the taunting. Later I wrote several law articles for one of our university law journals based around Harry Potter and they turned out to be the second most popular of the year (based on the responses - and second only to a Star Wars based series we did - but just above another we ran on the Iran War) and it was surprising the number of people who were knowledgeable about Potterverse. Apparently most of them hadn't run out at midnight , but a large number had read the book.

My old brother always says that I'm mad and obsessed and that he regrets buying me the first book. My friends say that I'm too much mad for hanging HP posters in my room. Did anyone do the same with you?

No- I'm in my 30's, though, so that may be why. Most folks would ask what I was reading, I'd tell them, and they'd just sorta shrug.

A few days ago I was explaining to a friend of mine about the Lexicon case and she didn't know about the books (which I think must have taken WORK) so I gave her the 1 minute version. She was, I think, more interested in the case than the book itself

I am not sure if I would really call it 'taunting', but many a time have people mocked me or teased me for reading the series, loving them as much as I did, for knowing passages by heart, writing my own fanfiction (some people just couldn't understand how on earth I could know so many details about characters to have been able to write my own stories about them!) and also looking at me as if I were a freak of nature for sometimes having pretended to live in the Potterverse, sorting people by houses, etc. (I know I'm not alone ;))

There are still some old 'friends' from Primary school who, when I accidentally bump into them, regularly ask me: 'You still obsessed with Harry Potter? If there's something I remember you by, it's your HP adoration, and your love for that funny red-haired guy.' ... well, what can I say? Maybe it was unusual for them to know a girl who had so much love for books in general and especially Harry Potter, but thankfully, I met a lot more like-minded people later on in my life who understood me so well.

In the end, to be honest, it never really bothered me when they'd call me a 'HP freak'. In fact, it actually felt quite good to be different. It still is. ;)

Never heard a word of my "obsessiveness" but then, most of the people I go to school with I don't talk to.

I really don't get why Harry Potter fans are ridiculed. How about people who are fanatics of a basketball team? We are just passionate about a novel. It's not like it's harmful, either.

To add to this, people don't have a problem with people being obsessed with other novels, such as Twilight. Why is everything with sci-fi and fantasy attacked? Lord of the Rings, The Inheiritance Trilogy, Star Trek, etc. are all ridiculed. I don't get it. I asked a friend why others don't make fun of people that are fans of Twilight, and she said that it's because it's really popular. But that doesn't make any sense; other fandoms like LotR and HP have a bigger fanbase, but they're constantly ridiculed.

I think it's really rude and tactless to be taunted for loving a book. It's downright immature.

My family are constantly saying "You're not reading Harry Potter again are you? God, you're obessive."

That rattles me because I could be worse!

My friends take the mickey a bit but JJFinch is always there, so we share the taunting! I don't really see why people poke fun because we read the series, it's like the same as watching a soap opera but you gain IQ points instead of lose them!

In high school I was taunted.... but after a while it stoped bothering me because I realized I should feel sorry for the kids who never had magic in their lives... No wonder they were bullies  But once you leave high school you realize that the world is made up of wonderfully weird and strange people :D Also your true friends would never care about what you read or judge you for it... If they do then they are not your friends :D

I've never been cruelly made fun of for liking HP.A few jokes from friends, but they were all good natured.

Of course. When I was still in high school, people always said I was childish for reading the books and watching the movies. At least some of my friends didn't because they also read the books, so I wasn't to worried about it.

Yes, I have always been and still am ridiculed for liking Harry Potter, as well as Lord of the Rings.
I've been a fan of both series for a long time. I was in 4th grade when I first read The Hobbit, and I was in 5th grade when I first read The Lord of the Rings. I was in 6th grade and 11 years old when I read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, and have been hooked ever since. I always got teased for both, and I still do today, and I'm 20 years old and nearly a junior in college! I think that the people who call me immature for liking Harry Potter are the ones who are immature, because I thought everyone at college was supposed to act mature and be over silly high school snarkiness. I don't let it get to me anymore so much, and I'm still carrying on with plans for a Lord of the Rings tattoo :p

I get touchy now when people joke around that I love HP so much. I usually don't take playful jokes seriously, but the taunting has gone so far, it's hard for me to handle it. I mean, so what if I like Harry Potter? Some people may call the HP series immature, but I find more immaturity in making fun of people who read the series. They love the series and people have no right to taunt others for being passionate about something, regardless of whether or not they have an interest in it.

Ok so I searched and I was actually surprised to see there was no thread regarding this.
So this question bumped in my mind after a recent experience I had in class. I was reading a fanfic and a classmate of mine asked what was I reading, I said it was something regarding Harry Potter, he giggled and watched away. I personally don't care a lot about it since he wasn't a frined of mine but this really Made me wonder why that reaction? It is not the first time that I experience something like this: being considered a nerd for HP, but I simply can't understand why. It is simply a passion we have and I can't get it: why does it make me a nerd?
Why are we potterheads considered nerds in general?

Funny how we have parents here, I'm 24 but no where near kids but I already see myself reading these to them. This and Dr. Seuss.
:D I'm currently reading The Philosopher's Stone to my 6 year old son. I was going to wait until he was older but he's getting really into the films and the merch (Harry Potter wand for Christmas!) I simply couldn't wait any longer!

Anyways, I don't thik I've EVER been teased for reading the series.Or liking the films. Or being a general Potterhead.
The Philosopher's Stone was my year 8 reading book...we ALL became so obsessed with it, reading it outside of class and discussing it amongst each other. As I got older some people grew out of it but I never did - I may have been the only one who squeeeed when CoS came out - I was certainly not judged for it.

Now I'm lucky that all my friends love and accept my geekiness and most of them are geeky themselves. One of them is planning some sort of HP related tattoo :D That same friend did roll his eyes when I was raving about Pottermore, but the other friends who happened to be there seemed amazed and interested.
:D I love my friends.

I'm jealous of you LouLou! None of my friends are interested in HP the way I am. They watched the films when they came out but that's about it. I'm lucky now that I work in an academic library and can talk freely about HP. Just the other day one of the library techs and I were having a conversation about HP and how JK Rowling has introduced reading to a new generation, and she (the library tech) is in her 50s or 60s. I'm also considering getting a HP related tattoo.

To Locto_Sabbath - I think anybody is considered a nerd when they openly express their interest and loyalty to a franchise. I use to play World of Warcraft - nerd. I love science fiction and fantasy - nerd. I LOVE HP - nerd and Dumbledork.

I've been very lucky in that my friends all like Harry Potter too. Or at least, they did in highschool!
Since coming to college, there's only 3 others in my class who have read the books, and only one who really, really loves them like me xD

Not unless they're in a group of four or more. Even then I'm going for the biggest one first.

my son (19) thinks i'm mad - but he's used to it!

His sisters both are Potter fans...but only the eldest has read the books. She got me into the books but a couple of work colleagues are fans too.

I work in a primary school and some of the kids were very impressed that I went to the midnight screening of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt 2!

I wasn't taunted myself but I teased my mom about liking the first two movies - which to me are the least interesting ones though they are the most faithful to the books and my biggest critique of the later movies is how far they strayed from the books.

I became a fan after seeing the third movie (still my favorite) and my mom promptly threw it back in my face how much I teased her about liking the first two movies. But I still stand by the fact that I really am not a fan of those films but I also began reading the books at age twenty so they kiddy-ness of the PS/SS and CoS did not appeal to me. What got me hooked was the that part in the movie PoA when Harry and Hermione are waiting for their past selves to emerge from the Whomping Willow and I was all "o0o0o0o0o0o0o!! They're gonna kiiiiiiiiiss!!" but they didn't...

To ZeeLee -- HA!! Dumbledork. =^D

My brother says he can't understand why anyone older then 11 reads Harry Potter

But I've never told him I read it, and I've only told a few people about my obsession, and those people were either already fans or people I was making fans ;) So I've escaped teasing. :)

Well, let's see, our group of friends all went to grad school together (more or less), three of us actively do tabletop gaming, a couple go to Trek conventions, and a few of us (me included) have serious academic nerd credentials.

So umm...no.

Not for reading Harry Potter.

...but for screaming over my first time on Pottermore, I got some pretty condescending slander and head shakes. :rotfl: I regret nothing.

For the books I was taunted a little and called "weird" by my friends. Pottermore I sounded really nerdy. "I got to go check if my potion is done brewing!"

Yeah a lot of people, and my parents did too, they always said, why are you reading this fantasy, go read physics or biology, something useful, but I would just look at them and say, Harry Potter is useful :) my friends didn't really say anything about it unless I brought it up n then they'd tell me I'm a nerd and all that

I think not so much about the books but about the movies. A lot of non-HP fans judge by the movies about the quality of the books and I don't seem to be able to persuade them to read even one. Or many people have red two or three and lost interest...

Can't understand it but there you go :)

Not many of my close friends know I've read the books. I know a couple of them would think it was nerdy, but they would never make fun of me for it. Most of them wouldn't really care one way or the other. I'm definitely the most "bookish" of all my friends and they know that. I wish I knew more people that got involved in books as much as I do.
