The Ink Trilogy by Cornelia Funke

Sorry, Mods, if there's already a post like this. I searched, but couldn't find one.

Has anybody read the Ink Trilogy? There are two books so far:

-Inkheart
-Inkspell

The third one, Inkdeath, will be printed in English (the author writes in German) around October.

Tell me what you think of the series.
I thought it was...okay. Not anywhere as good as Artemis Fowl, HP or Alex Rider. On scale of five, I'd give it two and a half.

Ooh, I love these books! I thought the end os Inkspell was really cheesy when Dustfinger "brought Farid back to life," but it's a good story. :D I'm looking forward to seeing how it will end. Inkdeath, eh? Sounds interesting. But who has to die? Unless I'm remembering falsely, Basta died in Spell, so there's no one bad left. I've heard that a movie is in production, too!

I read the first book and thought it was interesting. I have the second one and my sister has the third but I couldn't get back into it again. I might try again some other time though.

Hm it's difficult to explain without major spoiling. It's about the ability to enter bookworlds. It's partly set in our world and partly in a fantasy world, written in a book. The main character is a young girl whose father is a book restaurator and well THINGS HAPPEN. LOL I bet that was clear.

It's nice and definitely worth a read, because I thought it was rather original, both the theme and the worlds, and the characters are also rather loveable :)

The third one, Inkdeath, will be printed in English (the author writes in German) around October.

Can I just say that I rejoice that FOR ONCE it's the english speakers who have to wait for translation? :elaugh:

Ok, I've read the third when it came out, but won't spoil. :)

Inkdeath is slated to appear October 7 in the US, but no word yet on when the movie version of Inkheart will come out. Last I checked the release date had been pushed back to early 2009 sometime. It's unclear why, seeing how the special effects for the Shadow have apparently already been done. The trailer looks great, and they picked a great cast. Paul Bettany looks just the way I visualize Dustfinger, who is my favorite character as well. And how'd they get Helen Mirren, whose stock is so high at present, to play Elinor? And Jim Broadbent, that wonderful character actor who's playing Slughorn, as Fenoglio? I'm not so sure about Andy Serkis (Gollum in the LOTR movies)...He definitely comes off over-the-top in the trailer. That bit where he's rhapsodizing about duct tape had to be an improvisation; it's definitely not in the book!

Speaking of the book...These are books that should be close to the heart of anyone who really, really loves reading, because the love of reading is really the core of what they're about. But they are also a cautionary tale about the dangers of loving books so much that one loses touch with other humans. I recommend them highly. Oh, and they also make me want to visit the Italian Riviera!

I loved Inkheart, it's perfect fiction for bibliophiles. She makes bookbinding sound like a magical thing to do..I think I'm going to revisit Dustfinger now :).

I love this books. Cornelia Funke is a very good writer, and they have found a very good Norwegian translater. I can't wait to read Inkdeath, or Blekkdød as it will probably be in Norwegian! And I really find myself in both Meggie, Mo and Elinor. I think if you mix them together you will get me ;)

I really want to see the movie, I've seen the trailer and it seems to be a really good movie. And Dustfinger, my favourite character, looks exactly like I imagined him!

I think that very many of those who have read and like Harry Potter and other fantasy books will like the Inkworld trilogy.

Inkdeath is now published in Norwegian! I've just bought it, but it seems to be just as good, or even better, than the others!

Now I have read the sevenhundredandten pages of the Norwegian Inkdeath edition! It was fantastic, but I'm very sad that the trilogy is finished... :(

Anyway, it was even better than the two first books in the Inkworld trilogy (at least I think so), I really hope Funke will write loads and loads of more books!! :D

*Sniff* Ive only read the first two, but Im trying to get Inkdeath! I cried like a baby when Dustfinger y'know gave himself up for Farid. My poor poor fire-breather! One of my best-friends gave me Inkheart for my birthday about 1.5 years ago.... and I dont hate Meggie! Incase you didnt know, I usually hate all female protaganist! (See Mrs. Lopez? I do know my terms!) But Meggie is so like me, I couldnt hate her!

I tried reading the first, and while I really enjoyed the beginning, it seemed to fall harshly once Dustfinger came and they went to their aunt's house. Is it really that good? Should I restart it?

I love this trilogy so far. I'm reading Inkdeath now, and so far it's pretty good. I won't spoil it for anybody, but you'll probably like it just as much as the other two.

I think I finally found something new to read, I tryed to read other stuff, Twiligh and stuff, no succeded. Happily I think I am finally hooked.

Well, I am just starting.... but when I got hook to a book is since the very begining.
The book is absolutely magical (So far)

And the movie woww
The movie looks even more better, ok, not better I know movies can´t be like the book the most of the times, but this one I really like what I see.

I think that's awesome that you like the series so far. I got the first book for Christmas from my mom and then got Inkspell shortly after that. We looked for Inkdeath, but we couldn't find it, so we had to order it.

Inheart and Inkspell were very well written and I enjoyed reading Inkdeath as well, but I thought there were some boring parts in it. Otherwise it was great! :tu:

I think it would be interesting to see if they did go back to the real world. That would be really cool, but I think they loved it in the Inkworld after a time. I agree that there were some boring parts in Inkdeath.

I never new it was a trilogy, in our library there is only the first two but I have only read the first one, and I don't think I ever finished it. I had to lend it twice but never had time finishing it...I should try and read it again:)

I liked the trilogy, though I think the end of Inkdeath was a bit cheesy (the epilogue, I mean, the part where it talks about their life in Inkworld; I don't have the book here, so I don't remember whether it's officially an epilogue). Generally speaking, I think Ms Funke does better at writing thrilling, sad or tragic events than happy ones, because the part in which Mo gets shot in Inkspell, or when he offers himself to the white women or when he's prisoner in Inkdeath have an enourmous force, but the happy endings don't feel equal to them.

Just my opinion. Anyway, Mo and Dustfinger are wonderfully-written characters.

I read Inkheart which I thought was fun, but I am not enjoying Inkspell. I am hoping that it is just a slow start (Mo just got to the Inkworld) because the idea of these books is fantastic.

I bought the Inkheart series on recommendation. I thought it was a lovely creative idea for a fantasy story. I just started and already like the writing style for getting a feel for the characters personalities, plus descriptions of what's happening around and to them. :)

I love this trilogy! I love Inkheart, Inkspell, and (for the most part) Inkdeath! They're really creative.

I did have one problem with Inkdeath though. I disliked Meggie's role in Inkdeath. I felt she went from the protagonist to more of a secondary character in Inkdeath and I wish she had had a bigger role in that book.

I'm almost halfway through Inkheart. I don't know what other role(s) Elinor would play, but I'm quite fond of her already, I like how protective she is of books :D. I don't know about Meggie and Mo, though, Capricorn seems to be a book villain. I'm really looking forward to his introduction!
