I absolutely love when Harry and Sirius are fighting the Death Eaters side-by-side, and when Harry gets a shot in, Sirius yells, "Nice one, James!" I thought it was a very accurate look at their relationship, and it's probably the only change from the books that I actually like. Also, I appreciate the fact that there wasn't really a lot of attention drawn to it-- no dramatic music, or cut to Harry's face, or anything-- it just was. And it's extra sad to me now, because I just rewatched the movie last weekend and realized that it's the last thing that Sirius says to Harry in the film.

1--DA practice when Ron tells Hermione that he'll go easy on her just before she blasts him into the wall.--you go, girl!

2--Ron attacking Grawp when he picked up Hermione--so sweet! Ickle Ronnie hitting the giant to protect the girl he loves, awww. :)

3--Fred and George's fireworks--although I really miss the whole "Give her hell for us, Peeves" bit, and once again regret the decision in the movies not to include the poltergeist. Oh well...

4--Ginny, giving a hint of her power by taking out the entire Hall of Prophecies with her reductor curse. I just regret that they took away her role in getting away from the inquisitorial squad when Umbridge caught them in her office.

5--Dumbledore v. Voldemort at the ministry--totally cool wizard battle

Mine would have to be the part where Harry sees Sirius again and they give eachother a big hug. That made me very happy. Another favorite one of mine was when Sirius said, "Get away from my godson!" and punched Malfoy right in the face. Gotta love Sirius!

Now THAT is the best scene in the movie, or should I say line. It is the best line ever. It is so Luna.

My favourite scenes:

1) Sirius and Harry fighting Lucius and the DE. Gary Oldman makes a most convincing wand fighter.

2) The DA learn to do patronuses. Such a fun delightful scene where everybody is happy and patronuses are running amuck. And then...boom

3) Arthur in the underground. Such a sense of wonder.

4) The 6 DAs meeting on the bridge after everybody escapes. I'm sorry, but I like the Puking Pastille method of escaping better than what was in the book. Seems like something teens would do.

5) When Dumbledore arrives at the ministry and Bella scoots out through the fireplace. She knows where it is best not to be.

6) Meeting Luna Lovegood. Such a delightful character and nobody knows which way to look. Hermione, much to her own horror, introduces her as Looney.

Honorable mention (because it's just so bad): The scene where Mrs. Figg, Harry and Dudley are returning to the house. I always have to laugh. The poor actor playing Dudley (Harry Melling) is trying to look thoroughly out of it and like he's leaning on Harry for support. Meanwhile, I strongly suspect that the kid is actually holding up Dan who is in a very awkward position. Dan is trying to look like he's straining to hold up Dudley, but he's so obviously not. It's like some wrestling match that's gone terribly wrong.

I love the scene with Harry, Luna and the Thestrals. Superb special effects and good acting.

Agree 100%, this scene is not only well acted, it also gives us a lot of information about Luna and insight into Harry who immediately goes back to his friends in the Great Hall after having been an @$#^%. For me it was the most convincing scene in the entire movie... it was all about the interaction between Harry/Daniel and Luna/Evanna and it worked brilliantly.

I am going to go with Bellatrix's insane scream of "I KILLED SIRIUS BLACK!" because that part is so funny to me, and I am a Sirius lover. I don't know why but everytime I hear it I laugh hysterically.

2 scenes I loved:
1. The posession scene -- I think Radcliffe was brilliant and it was downright scary. I loved how the eyes were almost pure white and how we was curled up like a snake getting ready to attack. Dumbledore's look of concern and line 'It's how you are different' were brilliance. I do like the montage from all the movies of happiness, laughter, and love as well.
2. Sirius' death -- It was heart wrenching! I could feel the anguish and I think again, Radcliffe was perfect. Lupin's face as he held back Harry added that needed punch as well. Great music too!!

I think my two favourite scenes are the possession, and the final scene with Luna.

I LOVED the last scene with Luna. Lynch is so perfect for the role, and the writing was really good in that scene, even if it wasn't exactly canon.

Another scene I really liked is right after Harry kissed Cho, he's sitting in the common room with Ron and Hermione telling them about it. It's a really sweet but subtle Ron/Hermione moment, and the dialog is pretty much straight from canon, "emotional range of a teaspoon" and all that. ;) Maybe that's why I like it so much. Anyway, they just all end up laughing and it's really sweet, especially since it's not an especially light, happy film.

Haha, I love this bit, too. Because I'd already read DH when I went to see OotP, the Ron/Hermione exchange here reminded me of the ones in Hallows: "That's brilliant" / "It's been known to happen" /"Always the tone of surprise" I enjoy the little Ron/Hermione moments.

I loved Umbridges' scenes, Imelda Staunton was fantastic in the role.

Plus the Ministry scenes were brilliant, and the immediate aftermath of Sirius death was so well done, IMO.

1) The Possession scene

4) The scene where the kids stick up for Harry at the first DA meeting

Any scene with Sirius in it, but especially the one with the Black family tree.

I really enjoy that added in bit at the end when Voldemort is in Harry, and Dumbledore can do nothing at all about it, and it's up to Harry to beat Voldemort with only his own willpower.

I think it's a reference to Harry's strength and power and the overall depravity of Voldemort's character.

I liked Sirius' death. It wasn't very sad since I knew what was coming, but I liked the whole falling-slowly thing. It was a nice effect. :) I wasn't expecting the veil to be clear, but it all looked pretty much like I imagined it.

Personally, I don't think any of the films do the books justice. I've gotten used to it. I thought OotP did pretty well compared to some of the other films.

I have to say that I really disliked the opening part of the film. It's not that there was anything wrong with it per se, it was more that overall, it wasn't how I had imagined it. Why was there a park in the middle of nowhere? I'm just not seeing how that made sense. Did I miss something?

It really wasn't in the middle of nowhere. It looked like that because it was terribly hot that summer and there were just no houses around that park.

It made perfect sense! This story is all about Harry's feeling of isolation and the film established that from the get-go, having him sit, alone, in a park slightly out of town.

And the park was not in the 'middle of nowhere', it was situated on the edge of the town. The town in the film is very typical of countless towns all over England, especially in the south-east corner, which is where Little Whinging is.

Wow, you people are good.

But even with the common snse associated with it, I wasn't expecting it to be that kind of park... Sorry, the image will never fit in my head properly. I'm sure you know what I mean, there's always a niggling details that you think is incorrect. It's not a criticism per se, it's just me nit picking.

I love the scene where we first see Umbridge's office. The cat things were freaky. Really, that did scare me a little bit. It was beyond weird. And the pink everywhere, yuck. It was just too much. And that was why I loved it, I think.

Oh! And the scene with the Patronus class that Harry teaches, that's an excellent one too.

I was busy getting freaked out by the cats moving around all together. I loved that evil smile Imelda Staunton had on her face when she was telling Harry that he deserved to be punished. I just wanted to hit her, she did a fantastic job with Umbridge! Can't wait to see if she's involved in the last movies... I hope they don't cut that badness out, because Staunton is deserving of the chance to play her again.

I agree with you on this one for sure. It sums up the entire message of the scene, and though it was never in the books I do adore it nonetheless, it's a wonderful tribute to how well the creators have understood what JK Rowling had written on paper.

I was impressed with Dan Radcliffe in this actually, he really did a great job with the harshness, the pity, the dialogue. It was really well done.

Yep. It was one of the toughest ones to make. I had been quite angered by the lack of a decent Voldemort/Dumbledore battle and the statues, but I felt that this was very moving. It was the first time ever that I looked at Radcliffe and thought "Wow." He got it spot on in my opinion. It was very Morgan Freeman-ish. You can choose to read nothing from him, or you can choose to reach out there and think it through and see the emotions he's not making plain. That makes it all the better.

The scene with Sirius and Harry in the room at Number 12 with the Black family tree. When Harry expresses his doubts about being a good person.

Same here. And I love when all the Order members come in and there's the flying white stuff... I don't know how to describe it....

*The few McGonagall scenes, like the face-off with Umbridge (McGonagall kicks butt).
*Dumbledore and Voldemort at the Ministry.
*Umbridge's inspection of Snape.
*Dumbledore putting Umbridge in her place when she tries to kick Trelawny out.
*Cute Weasley family scene after Arthur's attack.
*Umbridge being carried off by the cenataurs.

I just love the whole movie. It's most definately my favorite so far.

CHO: Mistletoe.
HARRY: (clears throat) Probably full of Nargles, though.
CHO: (tilts head slightly) What are Nargles?
HARRY: No idea.

every time I watch that scene I say something like, "Oh my Gosh, that is SOOO CUTE!" the Harry/Ginny kiss better be just as good, if not better.

Without question my favorite OOTP scene is the battle at DOM. I love all the special effects that they used and just the crazy chaos just all around. The battle between DD and Voldlemort although could of been much better but with what they had I thought it was awesome.

Welp, i'm afraid, that the only reason I sit through Ootp anymore besides the fact that i'm a harry potter fan, and i watch it anyways (even it's on the bottom of my list as far as favorite movies go) is for the Fireworks scene, that is my all-time favorite scene. It would've been the Department of Mysteries but they messed that scene up, i'm not a book purist, but even non-book fans agreed with me that if they had included the other rooms i told them about, the battle would have been way more awesome.

I'm normally one to throw my shoe at the screen when something doesn't happen like it did in the book, but I rather liked the whole "Umbridge's Proclamations" montage, where she goes around the school like a little pink cloud of death, finds "fault" with everything imaginable, and immediately bans everything remotely fun.

ALSO... The moments when Harry's alone and emulate's Voldemort's creepy neck rolling thing... they kinda make my day. ^^

I like everywhere where Bellatrix is. Helena Bonham Carter is really an awesome actress!

Agree 100% I love her! She is my future Wife <3

My favourite scene has to be at the feast when Dumbledore is giving the speech, then introduces Umbridge, who does a squeaky cough and gets up to speak. Snapes reaction is priceless. As she coughs, snapes eyes widen and his head slowly turns, then as she gets up, he jolts back slightly as if to say "Orly?" lol

Gotta Love snape

I. LOVE. HER. She is such an amazing actress. They could not have come up with a better Bellatrix, ever. She is Bellatrix to me.

My favorite scene in the book, though, is definitely the end fighting scene. They're just so... there fighting for their lives. I love the craziness, it's the first taste of a battle that we get in the series.

All Sirius-Harry moments and the everything to do with the DA are my favourites. :tu:

The final portion of the movie including the fight at the MoM and the duel between Dumbledore and Voldemort were well executed. I also loved Danial's act of being possessed with all the cuts showing us moments from different movies... nicely done! :)

The whole Death eater fight and the DD vs Voldy battle. OotP is sorta slow like the book so I don't have too many. Umbridge in retrospect feels like a pointless character at least in the films more.

I liked Luna a lot she was very well played by Lynch. I wish there was more of her. I think Grawp should have been left on the cutting room floor though.

I think emotional stuff is what David Yates does best. There are some really cute moments in OOTP, that's what I like about this film:

-I like when we hear Harry's letter to Sirius: "Despite being back at Hogwarts, I feel more alone than ever" (so sad!) and we see him walk alone past Hagrid's hut, and then Luna tells him a nice speech about friendship.

-I like the family tree scene. I like that part of the script and the two actors' performance.

-The possession scene with the happy flashbacks and "I feel sorry for you." gives me chills. Well, the whole Voldemort scene is amazing.

-I really love it about Mrs Figgs going to testify about the dementors. And when it was asked guilty or not guilty, she was trying to raise her hand, and embarassingly lower it to brush her own hair.

- I really like Luna's acting too. She was so good, actually maybe more well groomed then the real Luna in the book. At least she didn't had dirty blonde hair. I like the way she speak and act, just like how it should be in the book.

Dolores Umbridge being carried away by the Centaurs, screaming about her important position -- and, them paying her no mind whatsoever.

When Umbridge calls Severus to her office for the Veritas Serum. I love his whole demeanor during that scene.

My very, very favorite is when Unbridge is questioning Severus about his failure to secure the DADA position. That whole scene hilarious. I would love to see some of the outtakes for that scene. There have to be some.

Anything without Dolores Umbridge... She reminded me way to much of a teacher I had in high school. If I had to narrow it down though, I'd probably say my favorite scene was at the veil. Daniel showed great emotion in that scene. Also, the continuation, when he chases down HBC and she is laying there with a look that showed a mixture of fear and wonder, right before Voldemort appears.

One of my favorite scenes from the movie is a rather short one with the underused Dursleys, but it's such a memorable character moment: Vernon turning around shortly after Harry and Dudley stumble into his home following their Dementor encounter, eating ice cream from what I believe is the container with a spoon in his mouth.

OotP is my least favorite HP movie, but I still like it..

there are many scenes that I like

- when harry is taking the occlumency classes with snape and snape starts saying how his father was, I liked that whole scene
-voldy vs dumbledore, voldy looks very evil!!!! I love him (the way ralph fiennes act haha)
-voldy possesing harry
- Fred and George's firework makes me smile, even more when I see the 'W' in fireworks, it's awesome
-I LOVED GRAWP, I hated him in the book, but in the movie, he is lovely!!
-I like to see flashbacks from the earlier movies, its cool :)
-I like how Imelda Stauton acted as Umbridge, while she makes Harry write the lines, she is just there very calm, also when she puts on detention all the DA members
-I love how the Ministry of Magic looks and with the poster of the minister, and when Voldemort breaks the glasses from the windows, it cuts the poster into pieces, I liked that

From the time the DA arrives at the Ministry to the possession scene. Wizard dueling is my favorite thing about the Harry Potter universe besides the basic concepts.

The cinematography was absolutely and mindblowingly gorgeous. The acting and action were fantastically orchestrated. And the filmmakers knew just what changes to make in order for it transition well to the screen. Even though they may have taken out a tad too much, (like the dueling in all the different rooms and the revolving doors), but its all made up for when it comes to the Dumbledore/Voldemort scene.

Watching that scene gives me goosebumps every single time, and I've watched it at least ten times in the last week and a half.

I really hope there is some dueling like this in DH.

I think we've all been excited about dueling since we got that tiny taste of dueling in CoS. :agree:

The cinematography and the pacing were done marvelously, to the point where there's only so much they could do to make it better. Can't help but agree, and it was so amazingly epic. Maybe it was just me, but the added touches of the fire snake and the shattering of the glass (and the subsequent shredding of Fudge's banner) just made it just more watchable.

Watching that scene gives me goosebumps every single time, and I've watched it at least ten times in the last week and a half.

Oh yes, I know what that feels like. It's truly epic.

That's why I can't wait to see things like Hogwarts being destroyed by spells because I'm sure, audio wise, it's going to be amazing.

But again, that was another of my favorite things about OoTP: the sound effects. They did such a great job. When the kid tried to disarm Harry and his own wand went flying, the sound was really good. And then don't even get me started on the sounds of the spells and jinxes during the duels at the Ministry.

All my favourite scenes from the films are likely to the the stuff they filmed but stupidly cut, such as McGonagall's stunning, and several snape scenes. However, I do beleive there a few brief gems within this film. All of Alan Rickman's scenes were good. The Black family tree scene was very nicely done, McGonagall vs Umbridge on the stairs was very good also. From what I've seen of Order of the Pheonix, and what I know from what has been cut, this film had the potential to be the best of them all. To me, this film feels half finished, we know fourty minutes were savagly cut at the last minute, and when Yates was questioned he gave his excuse in an interview, that he could not sit through a movie longer than 2 hours long, i felt this was a terrible reason. To sacrafice story due to time preferences is a poor artistic excuse for any film.
We all know that alot has to be cut from the books, and I love the changes that are made at times. 2 hours and 40 minutes is a fair time for the longest harry potter book. The film suffers, and I believe is the weakest of them all, but it is not terrible, it is still good, and has some great moments in it, but hopefully an extended edition of this film would certainly be an improvement.

So, if Yates supposedly shot roughly forty minutes of footage that was ultimately cut out (McGonagall being Stunned, for one, because I vaguely recall reports of set photographs with Maggie Smith in a wheelchair), has he ever commented publicly on the possibility of a Director's Cut? Phoenix is easily one of my favorite films in the series, which is surprising because Order, while still an extraordinary fantasy book, sits at the bottom of my list out of the entire series in terms of preference.

This may not be the appropriate thread to ask, but I'm now quite curious...

Yeah, that possession scene is easily one of the highlights of the movie. I generally dislike montages, but it works well in such a fitting context with the chaos of Harry's mind and felt dramatically powerful instead of distractingly gimmicky. I particularly like the shattering of the mirror and Voldemort's, "Look at me."

My favourite scene was the duel between Voldemort and Dumbledore. It wasn't like the book but I thought it was brilliant. I also loved the scene where Harry is possessed - I thought Dan was amazing in that scene and I loved all the flashbacks.

Also after Harry has the dream of the snake attacking Mr.Weasley and he does that weird neck thing and shouts at Dumbledore "Look at me!"

When Sirius dies and Lupin has to hold Harry back - that was exactly how I imagined it when I read that part of the book. Dan was again amazing in that scene.

I loved any scene with Evanna Lynch as Luna Lovegood. I don't think a single actor has been miscast in the series, but only a handful truly capture a character so absolutely as Evanna does. I particularly like her last scene with Dan and the way she tenderly holds his hand. Dan does well too; a little confused but comforted.

I think the montages work really well. It brought a freshness to the formula. No other Harry Potter film had done that and I think it was in danger of becoming a little stale.

The Battle at the Ministry was a brilliant sequence. From the DA fighting the Death Eaters to the Order joining in and Dumbledore confronting Voldemort. I did hope to see a long action scene with the DA but the scene works really well despite it's briefness. The gothic, stabbing strings is world's apart from John Williams, sometimes too sentimental, score and I think it suited the scene better. It all leads to Voldemort versus Dumbledore and eventually the great Possession scene, which is perhaps the most emotional moment of any Harry Potter film, brilliantly played by Dan.

I personal favourite of mine though is the image of Harry, Ron and Hermione transformed into 11 year olds when they discover Hagrid is back. Running to go see Hagrid. When you're 15 you don't run anymore, yet Hagrid (probably because of his size) can turn them back into children. I don't know if anybody else feels the same way but I find it charming.

There are plenty of others: the Fireworks scene with the Weasley twins, the Black family tree part (although I think Dan is a little weak in this scene), Sirius giving Harry the photograph of the old Order and even the "Kiss" betwen Cho and Harry is perfectly played.

(one minor thing I didn't like: the Ron dueling Hermione bit. There is no way Ron would underestimate Hermione like that. I just have a problem with him saying sincerely "I'll go easy on you". If he said it mockingly I would have accepted it and it would still be funny. Just a minor thing, but it bugged me)

I've just finished re-reading OotP because I couldn't remember when Sirius gave Harry the mirror and I have to say I really liked the film version of the Dumbledore/Voldemort duel and possession of Harry. The images going through Harry mind were beautifully done.
I also didn't realize that Dumbledore in the book was in the department of mysteries and fought there as in the film he arrives as Voldemort and Bellatrix are in the atrium which was much better visually.
