WeenyOwl July 12th, 2008, 4:42 am This forum is being created to invite comments and news from all those who, like me, are really looking forward to the film version of Inkheart and wondering if it will be good enough to make admirers of Cornelia Funke's book happy.
Although the trailer's been out for a while already, the release date has been pushed back to early 2009. It's hard to understand why it's taking so long; you can actually catch a glimpse of the Shadow in the trailer, so presumably at least some of the special effects have already been done.
In the production stills Paul Bettany looks just like how I imagined Dustfinger, who's my favorite character in the book, for the same reasons that I always found Snape the most interesting character in the HP series. Like the Snapeophile tee-shirt slogan says, "Because ambiguity is sexy!"
And then there's Helen Mirren, whom I'll forgive for being not nearly as frumpy as Elinor in the book, just because she's such a wonderful actress...
Your thoughts, fellow avid readers?
Kitunen July 14th, 2008, 11:03 pm Oooh, I didn't know they were making a movie version! I read Inkheart and I have Inkspell on my shelf...I'll probably read it later this summer once I'm done all my school-related books...
I just went on IMDB to look at the cast, and you're right...Paul Bettany looks good for Dustfinger. I also like Jim Broadbent as Fenoglio...looks like a good cast lineup.
ginger1 July 15th, 2008, 11:05 pm Can you tell me something about the book - or is it books? What age group are they aimed at? (Though from the first two posts in this thread, possibly quite a large range :) )
Tell me why Inkheart is such a good book, and why you hope it will be a good movie.
muggleborn168 July 22nd, 2008, 6:40 am Inkheart by Cornelia Funke is going to be a movie! It's with Brendan Fraser as Mo. The movie's coming out in 2009 January! I think it'll be awesome!
DeathlyH July 22nd, 2008, 2:05 pm I had heard they were making an Inkheart movie! But I didn't know the trailer was out already! *goes to look*
hplova15165 July 27th, 2008, 4:26 am I read the book and I'm definitely going to watch the movie!
Flameow July 31st, 2008, 5:34 am I started screaming in the theater when I saw the trailer for Inkheart (it was during Golden Compass I think) since I had no idea they were making a movie. Right when the trailer came on it was something like "imagine if you could read a book and the characters come to life" and I sat up in my seat, and said "OH MY GOD...NO WAY."
I am so excited for this movie. And I'm psyched that Andy Serkis is Capricorn, he's such a fantastic actor and I know he can pull this off.
DeathlyH August 5th, 2008, 3:13 am Just saw Brandon Fraser as Mo- I like that selection! For some reason I always imagined Mo being some bald guy  but I think I like the Mo from the trailer better. I hope they do a good job with Dustfinger- his acting performance could really make or break the movie. :)

Same here! I was in the theaters, and the commercial started, and I was like "That sounds a lot like Inkheart," and they said Dustfinger's name, I think, or some character's name and I squealed and kept saying, "It's Inkheart! It's Inkheart!"
evlyra October 18th, 2008, 2:58 pm Looking forward for this movie, great casts, great story. Hope it will be a fabulous adaptation, but seems to me so far might follow the steps of Spiderwick? Or Narnia?
Morning_Star October 27th, 2008, 9:44 pm I hope the Inkheart movie will be good. They have really found the right (at least -looking) for some of the characters - like Dustfinger. When I saw the trailer the first time, I saw someone who looked a bit familiar. I looked back, and I saw Dustfinger from my head! It's almost scary how close moviemakers can be sometimes. I hope the actors will do a great job as well.
If Inkheart gets in the cinemas here in Norway, I'll be the first one to buy tickets! :D
LilyLunaPotter November 16th, 2008, 2:12 am I just saw the trailer for it! I squeeled when I saw Dustfinger! I can not wait for this movie!
Nympfadora13 November 16th, 2008, 3:13 am I hope that the movie will be better than the Harry Potter movies. :agree:
GrangerHermione November 18th, 2008, 7:15 pm I saw the trailer recently, and it looks to me like it will turn out to be a very good movie. :D I haven't read the Inkheart books, but they've been recommended to me many times, so I think I will try to read them before I see the film. :)
Caliope November 18th, 2008, 7:18 pm Never heard of the book, but I saw the trailer before City of Ember and it looks great! Is that Paul Bettany as the fire-starter person? (Not sure what the character's name is?) Just wondering because I'm a big fan of his, and it's been far too long since I've seen him on-screen.

The character's name is Dustfinger, and I think the actor is Paul Bettany.
I hope that the movie will be better than the Harry Potter movies. :agree:
I think it will. From what we've seen in the trailer, this movie looks like it's going to be great. And, I have to admit, the HP movies are not exactly the best movies ever made (in my opinion, of course).
I have only one thing I fear about Inkheart the movie; what if the cinemas here in Norway won't show it? :grumble: The book is not well known here, but if it isn't shown, the local cinema shall expect a letter from me. (They probably shake with fear now )Or maybe I'll just go to a London trip? ;)
fattoad November 21st, 2008, 12:00 am Meggie doesn't look like what I thought she's look like. :)
I love Brendan Fraser so I can't wait to see him be Mo!
Wizard_Pupil December 21st, 2008, 8:18 pm I really have no idea when this movies comes out, or if the movie is already out XD
But after Harry Potter, none of those new franchises get my interest at all, but this one, this one really gets my attention I wonder why.
I like how it looks.
I really want to see the movie so I know if I want to read the book, if I like the book so I can have a new franchise to follow after HP.
Spacecadet January 5th, 2009, 2:54 pm This movie looks really interesting, although i havent read the books, the plot seemed to grab me, and i look forward to seeing it in the theater.
Ydoomrotsala January 29th, 2009, 3:14 am Who's seen it and what were your thoughts?
I saw it just last night for the first time and I found it amazing. It kept you interested through the entire thing without adding pointless action sequences or romance. They nailed every single character perfectly...which is the first film I've ever seen that has done that.
Paul Bettany was astounding as Dustfinger...Dustfinger was by far my favourite character in the books, and he's exactly the same in the movie, it's wonderful. Andy Serkis was amazing, too, as was every other actor.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Inkspell. :tu:
Nympfadora13 February 3rd, 2009, 12:35 am This movie looks really interesting, although i havent read the books, the plot seemed to grab me, and i look forward to seeing it in the theater.
You really should read the book. Its really, really good!! :agree:
LilyLunaPotter February 3rd, 2009, 1:24 am You really should read the book. Its really, really good!! :agree:
I second that!! The books are really really good! Well atleast Inkheart and Inkspell are... I havent read Inkdeath yet so I would not know about that, but I bet it'll be awesome as well!
hplova15165 February 3rd, 2009, 3:26 am I saw it and, I have to admit, I was a little disappointed. Well, If you haven't seen it, I guess I'll put up spoiler tags or something...
It wasn't nearly as good as the books, though it was good, and it was funny, I didn't like it all too much. I didn't like Brandon Fraser as an actor to start with though, so that really affected my view. But besides that, it was a little confusing if you haven't read the books; my brother kept asking me who each of the characters were. I did imagine when they actually read the books to be a little more smooth and beautiful and kind of lulling... but I didn't like it when Brandon Fraser read.
But the plus side - it was still like the book, it still had that magical touch. I liked the beginning with the whole little red riding hood scene. That was pretty cool, it gave a good idea of what was to come, too. Elinor was a good actress as well, she was funny and all. I loved Farad - he may have been one of my favorite things about the movie. He was funny and just like I imagined him in the book.

Oh, now I really really want to see it!!
Thats kinda sad about the reading though, thats the part I was looking forward to the most. That, and Dustfinger....
LyraLovegood February 3rd, 2009, 9:51 pm I've never read the books, and my bf doesn't even like fantasy.
Should we go see it on our next date night? I want to see it, but I don't want him to be miserable if there's nothing in it for non-fantasy-fans.
He saw Spiderwyck Chronicles with me, and didn't enjoy it at all. He also didn't like OotP when we went together.

Probably not a good choice to see this movie then. Go for the Uninvited or something.
LyraLovegood February 12th, 2009, 12:08 am Well, we went and saw it anyway, because he loves me enough to let me have my way, and we hadn't seen a fantasy since Spyderwick, and because I'd gone to two Hitler flicks in a row with him.
He was able to enjoy it, even though we both agree that Brenden Frasier is a lousy actor.
He liked the story, didn't see too many plot holes, and thought Dustfinger was by far the most likeable character.
I loved it, though I thought Brenden was meh, couldn't remember any characters' names other than Dustfinger and Capricorn, and had a hard time following the reading and the action at the end when the little girl was writing and reading all at once.
We both thought the best part of the movie was the beautiful scenery!! It was a cinematically, aesthetically masterpiece with the European countryside. Wows. Gorgeous.
Wizard_Pupil February 12th, 2009, 12:27 am I am reading the book right now, before seeing the movie.
I think I finally found something new to read, not as Twiligh, I am finally hooked.
Well, I am just starting, but when I got hook to a book is since very begining.
The movie looks even more better, ok, not better I know movies canīt be like the book the most of the times, but this one I really like what I see.
LyraLovegood February 12th, 2009, 5:55 pm I hope you finish the book before the movies leave the theaters, then!
I wanted to see Unborn, but by the time I got around to it it was no longer playing. :(
browneyedkat February 28th, 2009, 8:56 pm Oh my gosh, I still have not seen the movie!! I actually did not even know it was out yet...
shaylee_ann March 8th, 2009, 9:45 pm I haven't seen this yet, but I was looking at the dollar movie listings on Friday and saw that Inkheart is actually already there. I was really surprised. It hasn't been out for that long. I was expecting it to be at least another month or so before it left regular theaters. I guess that means it hasn't been doing well? I really want to see it, though! I'm hoping to go this week with my brothers, who have read it.
