Darn you......I nominated and threw my support behind Luna, and you tempt me so!!!! :upset:
I'm so pretending I have two votes.
snapegirl July 29th, 2008, 12:34 am I almost died of shock that you opened a thread for Luna.
ignisia July 29th, 2008, 12:37 am Well, I did that for a couple reasons:
Snape is terrible at making himself popular-- the goal of all politicians
A Snape nomination would lead to James/Sirius nomination, and then.....bloodshed would ensue as the two opposing sides had it out again.
I want Ministry workers to wear gurdyroots.

1. That's true, Snape is terrible at making himself popular, but that's why he will have a devoted team of people helping him. :D
2. I think James and Sirius would get nominated without Snape being nominated anyway. So let's give Severus a chance. :tu:
3.
The_Green_Woods July 29th, 2008, 3:27 am Look at the way Snape won the war for Harry Potter. We need more guys like him in the WW. I'm for Snape as the next Minister for Magic. :D
He'll rule from his portrait, right? :D
VOTE FOR SNAPE AS MINISTER.
Snivelly July 29th, 2008, 11:47 am ZOMG seriously? Seeing the way he served as Head of Slytherin House, I think it's rather obvious that a wizarding world under his authority would be rather totalitarian and biased in favour of, er, certain individuals of the Ministry, I'd say. ;)
Not to mention he'd probably outlaw 'know-it-all's for anyone other than from the Slytherin house.
Pearl_Took July 29th, 2008, 1:12 pm ZOMG seriously? Seeing the way he served as Head of Slytherin House, I think it's rather obvious that a wizarding world under his authority would be rather totalitarian and biased in favour of, er, certain individuals of the Ministry, I'd say. ;)
Really? :) In the light of the revelations of DH, you still think that Snape gives a stuff about the Ministry or pretending to throw his weight around? :) He's had enough of that rubbish for a lifetime, I'd say. ;)
As it is, much as it pains me to say it :upset: I do consider dear Severus wildly unsuited for this particular role.
Of course he'd be a blast. :D Snarking endlessly and terrorising Ministry staff from his portrait. :rotfl: Reducing poor Ministry minions to jelly. ;)
So, yep, he'd enjoy himself no end but not take the role seriously enough, IMO.
And he's not cut out to be a public relations officer.
Besides ... I want him to have a peaceful post-Hogwarts life, wherever he may be. :tu:
If I'm tempted to vote for anybody, it's Harry. Although I'm not sure he'd want the job either!
Snivelly July 29th, 2008, 1:24 pm Really? In the light of the revelations of DH, you still think that Snape gives a stuff about the Ministry or pretending to throw his weight around? He's had enough of that rubbish for a lifetime, I'd say.
Yes, actually. :) I'm not really sure he'd be chummy or even supportive of, for instance, the trio having their respective positions in the Ministry (assuming Ron is an auror, I'm kind of confused about whether or not he's working full time in the joke shop with George). I never got any impression that he would change his attitude towards them even in DH, really, so I don't think he'd really be an unbiased Minister for Magic in that sense.
Eh, but to each his own. I'm voting for Harry, so let the best man win! :D
PerfectDystopia July 29th, 2008, 2:40 pm zomg Seriously? Seeing The Way He Served As Head Of Slytherin House, I Think It's Rather Obvious That A Wizarding World Under His Authority Would Be Rather Totalitarian And Biased In Favour Of, Er, Certain Individuals Of The Ministry, I'd Say. ;)
This Is Why You Should Have Voted For Voldemort Instead!!!
Snivelly July 29th, 2008, 2:48 pm This Is Why You Should Have Voted For Voldemort Instead!!!
 I think I'm pretty sure that if I were given a choice between Snape and Voldemort, I won't be choosing Voldy for the job. ;)
ignisia July 29th, 2008, 2:55 pm I don't see Snape being too mean, or doing anything to endanger people's lives and the Minsitry's efficiency like firing Harry. Harry helped the Auror department run better, and all Snape really wanted from any of his students was for them to behave competently. Now that Harry has, I don't think he's going to fire him...maybe just throw his nasty looks every now and then. :elaugh:
Now, there is a little problem coming from one of his positive traits. Severus, true to the "verus" in his name, tells the truth. A lot. Even if it's a bad idea to.
Um...I don't fancy going into war because he told the Hungarian MoM what he really thought of him. :err:

I agree. If someone is doing his or her job correctly, I don't think Snape would fire them.

Um...I don't fancy going into war because he told the Hungarian MoM what he really thought of him. :err:
Yes, he can do that. But then again, I think he really did have excellent control over his emotions. When he had a job to do (like spying on Voldemort) he did the job and did Voldemort ever figure out Snape was spying on him? Nope. Harry had to tell him.
I think Snape would know when the best way of doing things would be to control his true feelings in order to get a job done.
He may not be the most pleasant candiate, but he's a brilliant, talented wizard and that shouldn't be over-looked. :tu:
PerfectDystopia July 29th, 2008, 4:38 pm  I think I'm pretty sure that if I were given a choice between Snape and Voldemort, I won't be choosing Voldy for the job. ;)

Common sense! :wow:
The_Green_Woods July 29th, 2008, 5:32 pm Well, Snape's lot looks bleak! There are only 2 of us who want Snape as Minister.
Everyone else has forgotten him. Come on guys! Vote Snape! The SAVIOUR!
ignisia July 29th, 2008, 5:39 pm Erm, Priya? When you capitalize the word "saviour", it implies, um...Jesus.
Although my RL friends and I do have an inside joke about Snape and Jesus. :rotfl:
The_Green_Woods July 29th, 2008, 5:46 pm Oh! I am sorry! I hope I did nopt offend anyone. I'll edit it and rewrite it in all caps. :)
ignisia July 29th, 2008, 6:08 pm :rotfl: All caps is cruise control for cool! And Snape is very cool!
The_Green_Woods July 29th, 2008, 6:15 pm And Snape is very cool!
:D Snape is beyond cool; but he has only 2 people on his team. COME ON SNAPE LOVERS.... WHERE ARE YOU......
kittling July 29th, 2008, 6:17 pm Make that three!
 Snape for Minister
The_Green_Woods July 29th, 2008, 6:24 pm yay
One more! Welcome kittling! We'll make Snape the Minister. :D
Raelis July 29th, 2008, 6:52 pm Make that four. ;)
I actually think Sev would make a terrible Minister... but I seriously doubt he'd be any worse than any of the other candidates, so... Go Snape! :D
kittling July 29th, 2008, 7:04 pm :clap:Yay Raelis
 more support for Snape
Raelis July 29th, 2008, 7:13 pm Sev can always count on me! ;)
snapegirl July 29th, 2008, 7:14 pm Yay!! more people!!
We need ten people to stay in the race. I know we can do it!
ignisia July 29th, 2008, 7:21 pm Wow, I just realized...Once again, the Snape thread has the most posts. :rotfl: Snape sure has a way with us HP fans...
kittling July 29th, 2008, 7:30 pm Yay a snarky way :sigh: but we still love him
we know he wuvs us really - he's just pretending so noone gets too jealous ;)
ignisia July 29th, 2008, 7:51 pm Exactly. ;)
arithmancer July 29th, 2008, 10:37 pm I'm on vacation, but for THIS, I had to come back and post. Snape for MoM!
kittling July 29th, 2008, 10:39 pm *big sigh of relief* I was sooo worried you'd miss this and we need you
Yay more Snape Love
Hey weve got 5 people now - were half way there
Olwen July 29th, 2008, 11:35 pm I'm in. Yay for Snape!
Fleur du mal July 30th, 2008, 1:36 am I'd love to join but I don't think I'm invited! Severus Snape for MfM!
snapegirl July 30th, 2008, 1:53 am Fleur, of course you can join.
You don't have to be invited to support Snape. Just post here that you support him and I'll invite you to the social group. The group is suppose to be invite only so the other campaigns can't see. :)
The_Green_Woods July 30th, 2008, 3:00 am Make that four. ;)
I actually think Sev would make a terrible Minister... but I seriously doubt he'd be any worse than any of the other candidates, so... Go Snape! :D
:rotfl:

WOW! I say WOW! *is delighted*
If Fleur du Mal joins, we'll be 7 and then we need only three more to join the race. YES! *becoming hopeful* *corsses fingers* and *knocks head*
IchLiebeGeorge July 30th, 2008, 3:35 am ...joins in. :tu:
Someone just needs to tell me what I have to do to help.
ignisia July 30th, 2008, 3:37 am You could have a link to this thread in your sig. ;)
The_Green_Woods July 30th, 2008, 3:46 am ...joins in.
Someone just needs to tell me what I have to do to help.
8 supporters! YES! :D
Iggy's plan is great too! ;)
wimblemimble July 30th, 2008, 3:50 am I'm officially suporting Severus Snape's run for Minister of Magic. :D
If Iggy is reading this, I'm really sorry. The choice between Luna and Severus was tough-- not to mention the fact that Neville was another option, but I had to go with Severus in the end. The peer pressure, it's suffocating!
flooser July 30th, 2008, 3:52 am He'll be able to stop giant attacks and rampaging dragons just by telling them to turn to the appropriate page.

- Severus Snape for Minister
We need minds like yours in the campaign!
All the slogans I could think of were way lame...I plead excessive beachgoing as my excuse!
wimblemimble, it's not peer pressure...you picked the best candidate. ;)
wimblemimble July 30th, 2008, 4:36 am wimblemimble, it's not peer pressure...you picked the best candidate. ;)
Then it would be positive peer pressure.
LusciousLucius July 30th, 2008, 4:42 am I support him too! Hes got my vote!
flooser July 30th, 2008, 4:45 am He's got more than my vote, he has my unwavering loyalty. Mostly because I don't want to spend my afternoon in a dungeon picking through eel brains.

Trust me guys, let's just get him nominated and we'll run the other campaigns deep into the dungeons.
The_Green_Woods July 30th, 2008, 5:06 am He's noiminated. We need 10 supporters to do that, and we've already got 10. :D
silver ink pot July 30th, 2008, 5:53 am I'm late, but I'm here!
Snape For Minister!
Yoana July 30th, 2008, 8:14 am Good, you have 10 votes now, so you can start the campaign. I didn't want to join, because I won't be around and won't be able to take part in it.
Also, I'd have supported Hermione over Severus (if anyone had thought of opening a thread for her. I can't believe this injustice!). Please don't excommunicate me from the Sev-lovers society!
flooser July 30th, 2008, 8:16 am Don't worry, we can let Hermione be in charge of cauldron bottom regulations when Severus has become Minister.
WHEN, not IF.
Yoana July 30th, 2008, 8:24 am Hermione is nothing like Percy. She's got imagination, flair and resolution. She has a mind of her own and an acute sense of justice - and something very important, which I think makes her superior to any of the others: she has an excellent understanding of when rules should be followed and when they can be sacrificed. She can tell the important from the unimportnant. She can act quickly and make hard decisions under pressure. She doesn't lose her had or falter in crtitical moments. She is just perfect for the post. Objectively. Not because of fan love or devotion. Because she is the best woman for the job and because the wizarding world will gain loads under her rule.
flooser July 30th, 2008, 8:27 am I agree 100%, I just don't think our future Minister will :(

Good, you have 10 votes now, so you can start the campaign. I didn't want to join, because I won't be around and won't be able to take part in it.
Does the fact that I joined mean that I'll have to take an active part in the campaign? Because I'm afraid I too won't be around much as I have too much work. :sigh: I mostly joined to show support and to help reach a necessary number of 10.
Because she is the best woman for the job and because the wizarding world will gain loads under her rule.
:agree: Objectively speaking, Hermione would be the best and frankly the only suitable candidate for the Minister post out of all HP characters. If the Wizarding world existed and I lived in it, I'd have voted for Hermione, no question. I also think Sev would have run for cover if someone had offered him such a job. I don't see him having much tolerance of all the adult "dunderheads" he'd have to deal with. :)
Titania July 30th, 2008, 8:48 am Of course Snape has got my full support!

With insightful analysis like that - we don't just want you honey; we need you :)
Also it occurs to me that statement works well for Snape  *takes out pen and stats crossing out the S's on all the she's*
Oh come and play with us PLEASE! *batters eyelashes v sweetly*
Annielogic July 30th, 2008, 9:30 am Count me in! :tu:
Titania July 30th, 2008, 9:30 am My vote for Severus Snape!
The_Green_Woods July 30th, 2008, 9:33 am Titania, Annielogic, welcome! more Snape fans, yay! :D
Snape truly ROCKS.
Yoana, I have asked the question for you and Raelis in the "I'm going to retire" thread in the wizengamot Administration Services, whether both of you can cast your vote beforehand to an auror or unspeakable.
If they say yes, then it should not be a problem for both you and Raelis, and in fact for anyone who may not be there around election time. :)
Annielogic July 30th, 2008, 9:47 am I just noticed on the rules I need to state it in bold, so it's clear.
I vote for Severus Snape!
Plus, he can keep his mind closed and stop people trying to manipulate him through seeing his thoughts, and if they're lying to him.
kittling July 30th, 2008, 9:56 am That's such a good point - the ability to spot liars is very important in politics
The_Green_Woods July 30th, 2008, 9:56 am Yoana, Raelis and anyone who thinks they won't be around at the time of voting can owl their votes to a mod. That'll be counted as well. So Yoana, do join. :D
Yoana July 30th, 2008, 10:14 am I'm all for Hermione. If she ever gets her thread, that is :grumble: If she doesn't, I'm not going to vote for anyone in protest.
I just can't believe how underappreciated Hermione is! It really does sadden me!
CathyWeasley July 30th, 2008, 10:21 am I support Severus!!! Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
Shame on you Iggy! *Scowls at Iggy in a Snape-like way*
Yoana July 30th, 2008, 10:24 am I nominated Hermione. I could not stand it any longer. My loyalties lie with her, even if I have to be opposed to Severus! *brave look*
kittling July 30th, 2008, 10:47 am  Welcome Cathy it's so good to see you here :)
Yoana :upset: it's very sad that you won't be joining us but I do respect your bravery. :agree: You would have been sooo loved on our team though :sigh:
Raelis July 30th, 2008, 11:06 am That's such a good point - the ability to spot liars is very important in politics
Exactly. :agree: Also, one of Sev's major strengths is his sense of responsibility. No matter what he'll have to endure to get the job done, he'll see it through. I wish I had this admirable quality. :D
Yoana, Raelis and anyone who thinks they won't be around at the time of voting can owl their votes to a mod. That'll be counted as well.
Thanks for clarifying this, The_Green_Woods! :)
I nominated Hermione. I could not stand it any longer. My loyalties lie with her, even if I have to be opposed to Severus! *brave look*
You did the right thing. :tu:
The_Green_Woods July 30th, 2008, 11:19 am Yoana, now I want 4 votes.
One for my Sev, one for Iggy's Luna and one for your Hermione and one for my other fave Harry.
-----------------
Anyhow, Good Luck for Hermione. :)
With cathyWeasley we are now, how many? 14? YES!
Yoana July 30th, 2008, 11:43 am Thanks, girls! So sweet you are :huggles: Good luck to Sev too!
inkling7 July 30th, 2008, 12:08 pm OK I'm up for Snape since it will do him good to show his good side so everybody has a chance to see that he really was on the good side and it will give him a chance to redeem himself to the whole wizarding world.
LumosPatronus July 30th, 2008, 12:19 pm how can a dead person be minister for magic?
The_Green_Woods July 30th, 2008, 1:24 pm Welcome inkling7. Great choice. :D
how can a dead person be minister for magic?
Well I can see a few points in favour of Snape even though he is dead.
1) He is the master of snark, snarl and intimidation. So no one can suck up to him and succeed.
2) He can be very harsh; so no one will take him for granted.
3) He knows the workings of the Ministry and he is the man for politics, because he was a spy for more than 20 years, so he probably knows the in and outs of people, their workings and the most effective ways to get the maximum out of them and the most effective way to shut them up as well.
4) He was DE, so he would know how the minds of wanna be dark lords work.
5) He turned to the Light from a DE, working bravely for over 20 years in the most difficult circumstances, doing the most difficult jobs, so his policies would always reflect the right way rather than the easy way and above all
6) He would have a Harry Potter and a Hermione Granger as Head of the Aurors and as Head of the Magical law Enforcement to implement his orders, without taking advantage of his lack of physical presence.
7) What's there not to vote? :D
Come on LumosPatronus VOTE FOR SNAPE! :D
snapegirl July 30th, 2008, 1:32 pm Wow! This is great! We have more than enough people. :D
LumosPatronus July 30th, 2008, 1:35 pm please, call me lumos, and I already voted for neville :p
The_Green_Woods July 30th, 2008, 1:39 pm Oh! Okay, Neville is awesome too! :tu: All the best. :)
snapegirl July 30th, 2008, 2:03 pm Ok, I updated the list of supporters on the first page. If there's a mistake, please let me know. So far 15 supporters!
I will also send invites to the social group, so we can discuss Snape's campaign tactics.
Vig July 30th, 2008, 5:10 pm Sorry, but I am still an amateur in these parts of the forum so can anyone explain what this about...
I will gladly support Severus' cause anywhere, for any post! :)
snapegirl July 30th, 2008, 5:15 pm Thanks for your support vigeshnimbus!
The forum is holding elections for a new Minister. Here's a link explaining it:
Minister for Magic Elections! (http://www.cosforums.com/announcement.php?f=247)
You'll also get an invite to the Snape for Minister social group. :)
The_Green_Woods July 30th, 2008, 5:17 pm YAY! One more Snape fan! Welcome Vigneshnimbus! :)
COS is helping the MInistry of Magic to conduct an election for Minister for Magic, because Kingsley is retiring (There is a thread in the Wizengamot Administration Sevices to that effect).
So in this forum, you are seeing the names of those witches and wizards (even those who died) who are contesting the elections to become the next Minister for Magic.
EDIT :: Snapegirl has already explained. :)
Vig July 30th, 2008, 5:37 pm Thanks for your support vigeshnimbus!

So, now I know what this is about, what do we members do? Do we a campaign manager and a strategy to go with it...And how do we go about canvasing other prospective members...(Or should we be discussing this in safer confines of the group!)
And thanks for the invite to the social group! :)
inkling7 July 30th, 2008, 6:08 pm Although I voted for Snape I am wondering along with others how a dead person can be minister...... And also a creature that can't communicate with most of the wizarding world.....
That could effectively rule out at least three candidates then - the 3 'S's.
Sirius, Snape and Squid.....
Annielogic July 30th, 2008, 6:35 pm Well, at least Severus can communicate from his portrait. Erm, I'm not sure how Sirius would though. Okay, it's bit difficult for both, but I'm sure we can find a way.
Jessica July 30th, 2008, 6:55 pm I'm going to stick the threads when you guys get up to ten so we can see which candidates are there.
Annielogic July 30th, 2008, 7:08 pm I'm going to stick the threads when you guys get up to ten so we can see which candidates are there.

ClayPotter July 31st, 2008, 3:27 pm OK, I'll join in supporting Snape, although I told Annie that I think he likes his privacy way too much to ever run for office. But if we DRAFT him into the position, I think he would be fair, honest, hard working, and take a no nonsense approach to running the Wizarding World! Ahh, if only all politicians were like that...
So GO SNAPE! Sign me up!

lindaluna August 1st, 2008, 10:42 am I cannot support Severus for Minister of Magic.
While it may "vindicate" him:
1. He is the classic loner, not a team builder.
2. He is the classic mad scientist.
3. He is dead.
4. The habit of being tragically misunderstood even by people he cares about most demonstrates he has poor communication skills, and should not be put in a role where communication is vital to success of the mission.
I can't help feeling that #3 trumps everything.
inkling7 August 1st, 2008, 11:06 am As a portrait once said - she has a point you know......
However if he agrees to it - and we haven't had a peep out of him since the nominations opened - I'll support him - but I somehow think he's a reluctant candidate and has gone walkabout to escape all this.......
Pearl_Took August 1st, 2008, 12:49 pm I cannot support Severus for Minister of Magic.

This made me laugh. :rotfl:
Well, if this were real life, I would vote for either Harry or Hermione.
Oooh ... I have voted for Hermione! :D
But it's fun and heart-warming to see the support for Snape. ;)
The_Green_Woods August 1st, 2008, 2:31 pm I cannot support Severus for Minister of Magic.
1. He is the classic loner, not a team builder.
I agree; and yet his contribution as a loner to TEAM Order of the Phoenix was what enabled Dumbeldore to plan not only his own death, but also Voldemort's IMO. :D
As Minister, he may be a loner, but his contribution (knowledge) can only help the WW. :D
2. He is the classic mad scientist.
Yes *is proud* and he will come up with brilliant ideas for the WW, as brilliant as his Potion corrections, while only a student to the official textbook written by a Potions expert.
3. He is dead.
Sadly yes! He was sacrificed by Dumbledore so that Harry could win the war IMO. And yet he inspires so much confidence in most of us that he will be able to run the Ministry from his portrait efficiently and brilliantly.
4. The habit of being tragically misunderstood even by people he cares about most demonstrates he has poor communication skills, and should not be put in a role where communication is vital to success of the mission.
I actually thought he could very well understand people; he understood a mother's distress in Narcissa and swore to help her son, knowing that if Dumbledore changed his plans, it would mean his own death.
Snape is the guy for the toughest job; if he can run rings around an insane Bellatrix, I think he can effortlessly run the Ministry. Even from a portrait.
With Dumbledore in a portrait close to him, with Harry as the Head of the Auror force and Hermione as Head of the Magical Law Enforcement, Snape would take the WW to great heights; to their Golden Age. :D
VOTE SNAPE, FOLKS
ignisia August 1st, 2008, 3:13 pm Ignisia once wrote that our "sin is always shining."  So now we'll just add vices to our sins.
SIP, kitt's typo totally reminded me of that one! I really wanted to make a reference to it in response, but I was afraid no one would understand it.
3. He is dead.
One word: Portrait!
VOTE SNAPE FOLKS
*Iggy's comma-loving side cries* :upset:
wimblemimble August 1st, 2008, 3:18 pm The Green Woods: I love the banner you've got in your signiture! Last night-- at probably the most inoportune time possible-- I suddenly got a lovely idea for a Severus banner which basically goes through the many 'faces' of Severus (Double Agent, Healer, ect.) and then end with 'Minister of Magic? Vote Severus!'
And one of them that I thought of was 'Protector' with just that image! Oh, PoA-- such a splendid movie with such outstanding images for graphic making purpoess! :D But it seems you've beaten me to it! (Although, if I find the time to even make that banner, I may just have to steal the idea anyway. :p)
ignisia August 1st, 2008, 3:22 pm You should totally make that banner!
The_Green_Woods August 1st, 2008, 3:24 pm *Iggy's comma-loving side cries* :upset:
I did not even begin to understand this. :D I should have used a comma somewhere? Tell me where and I'll edit it in. :D (Yeah, I am that bad :D)

Thanks! I am proud, having done a banner all by myself. :D And one with Snape too!
Please steal it! You'll probably make better use of that pic than I. :D

Between "Snape" and "folks". Otherwise, you're telling every to vote for a group of people called "Snape folks", rather than Snape himself.
Thanks! I am proud, having done a banner all by myself. :D And one with Snape too!
I love your banner! Everyone's made such gorgeous banners. Snapegirl's is really cool too.

Sounds like a brilliant idea. I agree with Iggy, you should totally have a go at making that banner!
wimblemimble August 1st, 2008, 4:03 pm Have you seen SIP's banner yet, Iggy? I really like hers as well. :D
Please steal it! You'll probably make better use of that pic than I. :D
But your banner is so pretty! (Although, just a small critique, the white font is a little bit hard to read on the lighter background. You might want to have used a darker color. Other than that, I really like it!)
But I'm hoping to find time to make that one, just because I think it would be a lot of fun. Of course, I'll have to go and find all the necessary images-- but who doesn't like looking through piles of Severus pictures? :D
The_Green_Woods August 1st, 2008, 4:16 pm I have changed it to yellow. Is this better mimble?
Thanks Iggy for the comma and liking my banner. :D
kaustubh77 August 1st, 2008, 4:43 pm Snape is one of my favorite characters but I don't see him as a Minister. He just isn't cut-out for public life. The support he has got though is pretty amazing and it will be difficult for anyone to beat him.
Like him; Hate him; You definitely can't ignore him. :)
snapegirl August 1st, 2008, 4:55 pm For everyone who's worried that Snape won't show up or agree to run, I would like to link to this post: http://www.cosforums.com/showpost.php?p=5101739&postcount=37
And thanks to everyone who is supporting Snape for Minister!
wimblemimble August 1st, 2008, 6:02 pm I have changed it to yellow. Is this better mimble?
Hmm, perhaps a dark green? For Slytherin colors. :D
I think font style/colors are some of the most annoying parts of making icons/banners. Because you have an idea of what you want, only to find it isn't working. :grumble: I don't know how many times I've spent hours just playing with different shades of fonts.
And I don't know what program you are using to make the banner, but one option would be to create another layer on the image (on top of the Severus picture and under the font, and erase all the parts that aren't under the font, so as to not obscure your image later) then make the layer a dark color (like black) and then lower the opacity (optional). Then the lighter font may be more likely to show up.
EDIT: Here are a couple of examples.
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m302/wimblemimble/My%20Avatars/PS--Snitch4.jpg In this one the opacity isn't really lowered at all, so the new layer becomes an obvious part of the icon.
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m302/wimblemimble/Contest%20Submissions/Soaring.jpg But in this one, there is a small layer unerneath 'in flight' but the opacity has been lowered to a point where you can't really tell. It still brings out the font better, but it isn't an obvious part of the icon here. (Also, I used the brush with the faded edges, so it blends into the background easier.)
The_Green_Woods August 1st, 2008, 6:15 pm Dark green just does not show; any shade of green actually (I tried them first, I'll try again) . And no program, I am simply decorating on Photobucket. :D Perhaps that's why I am unable to get the right type of fonts?
Both of yours are so nice. :)
I'll try, but I can't say if I'll be successful, though.
iglybo August 1st, 2008, 6:23 pm He'd make a great minister if he would stop being such a misery.
Tell ya what I'll vote Snape but only he if he cheers up a bit first.
ignisia August 1st, 2008, 6:35 pm Bring Lily in here. That will cheer him up immensely. :rotfl:
wimblemimble August 1st, 2008, 6:43 pm I've never used photobucket, so that might be why.
I use GIMP, which is a free program that (in my opinion) is comparable to photoshop in quality but is free. Which makes it terrific. :D
If you're interested, you can download it here (http://www.download.com/GIMP/3000-2192_4-10073935.html). It's 2.4.6, which is the latest version of the program.
And you can find some basic tutorials here (http://gilesorr.com/papers/gimp-tutorial/gimp.html#AEN37). They were written for an older version of GIMP, but most of what is said still holds true for the newer version, things will just look a little different or have slightly different names. (but one thing they didn't mention was that, when using text, always have 'antialias' checked, otherwise your text will look grainy.)
Oh, and if you download it, the first time you open the program two boxes will open. One is the main GIMP and the other is just a tab for a specific function, such as fonts, or brushes, or layers. If you close these, you can always open them again by going to the little triangle in the middle right-hand side and click 'open tab' And if you want the tab seperate again, just click and drag it off to the side. (The only reason I mention this is because I found this to be very confusing the first time I used it, and it took me forever to figure it all out. But I'm probably just slow.)
ignisia August 1st, 2008, 6:48 pm Let me second the recommendation for GIMP. :tu: I use it too, and for a free program, it's really good. :agree:
wimblemimble August 1st, 2008, 6:54 pm Especially since version two came out. Now .abr photoshop brushes are compatable with it-- which is great because photoshop tends to have more brushes made for it than GIMP does.
Annielogic August 1st, 2008, 6:57 pm Is that a yes, iglybo, are joining us? :)
ignisia August 1st, 2008, 7:01 pm Especially since version two came out. Now .abr photoshop brushes are compatable with it-- which is great because photoshop tends to have more brushes made for it than GIMP does.
Oh wow! I didn't know that. I have version 2.2. Does it have that ability, or is that only version 2.4?
(Now you've got me in the mood to use GIMP. *goes off to make icons and graphics and stuff *)
xFluerDelacourx August 1st, 2008, 7:35 pm I would definitely vote Severus Snape for Minister of Magic.
ignisia August 1st, 2008, 7:50 pm YAY! :huggles: Welcome to the Snape campaign!
Annielogic August 1st, 2008, 7:58 pm Yay welcome xFluerDelacourx!

with her writing we'll have some great words to add to out great pics :D
GemmaBlack August 1st, 2008, 8:06 pm He's kind of mean to be minister, anyone who looks remotely like James Potter he'd probably have carted off to Azkaban.
He's good with potions though.
ignisia August 1st, 2008, 8:15 pm He's kind of mean to be minister, anyone who looks remotely like James Potter he'd probably have carted off to Azkaban.
 He wouldn't do that. Sneering and insults are his style when angered, not endangering people.
(Now you've got me in the mood to use GIMP. *goes off to make icons and graphics and stuff *)
True to my word, I went on a banner-making spree. Here's Sev's:
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d110/ignisia/sevbanner.png
wimblemimble August 1st, 2008, 10:44 pm Oh wow! I didn't know that. I have version 2.2. Does it have that ability, or is that only version 2.4?
I looked it up, and from what I've read it seems that 2.2 can use .abr files as well. However, if you want to use .rar files you'll still have to convert them. And I'm not entirly sure how to do that, really.
And your Severus and Luna banners are really cute! The Luna one is my favorite, with the stripes starting from the tip of her wand and radiating off. :D
ignisia August 1st, 2008, 10:49 pm Thanks. I'm especially proud of the Luna one. :D
Professor Snape August 1st, 2008, 10:52 pm I will admit only the best on my campaign, and I hope you understand the privilege invested in you if you're part of my team.
And I would appreciate if you'd stop discussing my looks everywhere. You sound like the followers of another candidate.
snapegirl August 1st, 2008, 10:55 pm I'll glad you're excited about the campaign, Sir!! We'll give it everything we got. :)
wimblemimble August 1st, 2008, 10:56 pm Severus! You're finally back!
How does it feel to know you've gotten the most support in the least amount of time? ;)
Kimagine August 1st, 2008, 11:00 pm *peeks in to see what the opposition is doing...
ignisia August 1st, 2008, 11:04 pm *peeks in to see what the opposition is doing...
Pretty much what you guys are doing: fangirling.
SEVERUS! So nice to see you again. :huggles:
RIPFRED August 1st, 2008, 11:22 pm *sigh* I wish I could vote for more than one person. It's all so tempting!

Thanks! I have downloaded it and it looks fascinating (I read a little of the the tutorials as well); but I think it'll be ages before I can get the hang of it. :D
I have a photobucket account mainly for my siggys here and I discovered just some time ago you can write and decorate on them. this was the first time I tried it on a pic, though. :)
But seeing what you and Iggy have come up with, well it makes me want to experiment. :D
I will admit only the best on my campaign, and I hope you understand the privilege invested in you if you're part of my team.
And I would appreciate if you'd stop discussing my looks everywhere. You sound like the followers of another candidate.
Hello Professor Snape! :)
How have you been? We are glad to see you Sir. Welcome back. :)
wimblemimble August 2nd, 2008, 3:30 am Thanks! I have downloaded it and it looks fascinating (I read a little of the the tutorials as well); but I think it'll be ages before I can get the hang of it. :D
But seeing what you and Iggy have come up with, well it makes me want to experiment. :D
Good! I started with the basics on photoshop at my high school, so I already knew a little bit when I got the GIMP. But it still took me a while to figure out the differences between the two.
Anyway, if I happen to find more tutorials for a more recent version I'll be sure to let you know! But I know that I've always had the most fun when I just experiment with all of the different buttons. :D
silver ink pot August 2nd, 2008, 7:24 am I'm posting again just to flash my Snape Banner. :tu:
Snape for Minister!!!
All these sig banners are so creative. It's fun just to see what people are coming up with!
(I love Iggy's Luna Banner!)
inkling7 August 2nd, 2008, 7:31 am As someone should point out to the other teams - it's not what you look like - it's what you can do - that's impotant. Most are most likely voting for Sirius because of his looks. However I LIKE Severus' looks - they have much more character than chocolate box goodlooking people - so there...
Will the minister - if he is dead be able to have lots of portraits everywhere - so be accessible like a live minister? I hope so. Now as to his cabinet and heads of departments? Who would they be? Also what about the vice minster or deputy minister - is there to be one?
ignisia August 2nd, 2008, 7:37 am I like Severus' looks too. I don't think he's very ugly at all. I've seen plenty of greasy heads, large noses, and crooked teeth. In my eyes, that doesn't really render a person hideous or anything. In fact, there are some out there with those attributes who are positively delicious! ;)
Now as to his cabinet and heads of departments? Who would they be? Also what about the vice minster or deputy minister - is there to be one?
If Severus should win, I am definitely securing a post for Luna! :D

Professor Snape, I'm glad we have you're approval, Sir. We are all doing our best.

 I love that banner. If it's going to be your signature, you'll need to shrink it down a lot though. :)
ignisia August 3rd, 2008, 12:11 am  I love the "harmless" part. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy fan in me wants to make it say "Mostly harmless", though. :rotfl:

Greeney August 3rd, 2008, 7:16 am I strongly believe that anyone who doesn't hate cookies should support Severus Snape! Therefore, I will be glad to throw my support for Minister of Magic behind the Greatest Headmaster, Occlumens, Potions Master, and Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher in the History of Hogwarts!
Colonel_Fubster August 3rd, 2008, 7:21 am Yay Greeney! Welcome aboard! :D
Shows off shiny new election sig....
Vig August 3rd, 2008, 10:25 am I strongly believe that anyone who doesn't hate cookies should support Severus Snape! Therefore, I will be glad to throw my support for Minister of Magic behind the Greatest Headmaster, Occlumens, Potions Master, and Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher in the History of Hogwarts!
And we are being modest in our praise, of course! :)
Annielogic August 3rd, 2008, 11:44 am Hello there and welcome, kathleen_hpffl and Greeney!
inkling7 August 3rd, 2008, 12:33 pm Um what kind of cookies are you talking about? The kind you eat or the computer kind?
Annielogic August 3rd, 2008, 12:39 pm Um what kind of cookies are you talking about? The kind you eat or the computer kind?
I automatically thought of chocolate chip cookies, myself.
iglybo August 3rd, 2008, 1:27 pm Sorry Sev but you're just too moody, besides remember how quickly he imposes his personality on a room, what if he did that to the whole of the wizarding community. It'd be like having a dementor for minister.
DeathlyH August 3rd, 2008, 3:24 pm If Snape was Minister, than Harry would work for him as an Auror. How fairly do you think Snape would treat Harry? Not much better than at school, I would think. Anyways, Snape doesn't like to attract a lot of attention to himself and that would happen if he were Minister. Best vote for Arthur!
ignisia August 3rd, 2008, 3:31 pm If Snape was Minister, than Harry would work for him as an Auror. How fairly do you think Snape would treat Harry? Not much better than at school, I would think.
*shrugs* They came to some sort of understanding in DH, apparently. ;) Not that he's going to like the kid or even be very courteous to him, but liking Harry isn't a necessity.
inkling7 August 3rd, 2008, 4:23 pm I actually think that Arthur given Snape's real history would work for Snape given his history - since I think Snape is smart enough to realise and use the talents of his competion in their best capacities. Or so I would hope......
Vig August 3rd, 2008, 6:15 pm *shrugs* They came to some sort of understanding in DH, apparently. ;) Not that he's going to like the kid or even be very courteous to him, but liking Harry isn't a necessity.
You don't necessarily have to be best pals to run Ministry effectively...I fact different views help in making good policy decisions...:tu:
inkling7 August 3rd, 2008, 6:48 pm Sorry don't like choc chip cookies - DO like ANZAC BISCUITS though...
ALSO think that if Harry can name his second son after the bravest man he knew then I'm sure Lily who once REALLY liked this person - well both would realise that he COULD be a great Minister of Magic - given the chance........
GemmaBlack August 3rd, 2008, 7:22 pm When he was a teacher he kind of abused that position, by bullying people like Neville and Harry and favouring others, whose to say he wouldn't do the same as minister.
inkling7 August 3rd, 2008, 7:29 pm Ah ha oppostion..... which camp are you from my dear???
Answer - he won't - he's dead - he's over that stage now - otherwise why would Harry name his second son after him?
Severus has moved on - and now everyone should have realised it and Lily especially has now realised this man loved her no matter what.....
This kind of person has lived through heaven and hell and therefore can be minister.....
snapegirl August 3rd, 2008, 7:39 pm When he was a teacher he kind of abused that position, by bullying people like Neville and Harry and favouring others, whose to say he wouldn't do the same as minister.
Well, Minister of Magic is a different position then teaching. As Minister, Snape would know that working with others like Aurors and other staff is important. He would be surrounded by talented witches and wizards, who have already proven their abilities. (yes this includes Harry and others) I don't think he would fire anyone as long as they did their job.
Snape has accepted his nomination willingly, which is a lot different then how he started teaching. :)
Pearl_Took August 3rd, 2008, 8:45 pm Why do people assume that Snape hasn't changed at all since he was Harry's schoolteacher? It's very puzzling to me, in the light of the revelations of DH ... :)
I'm tickled pink by the idea of Harry working for him as an Auror. :rotfl:
For one thing, I'm sure that Adult Harry is well able to cope with Snape's grumping.
And for another, Snape might well still be a snarky git (he will always be a snarky git  ) and he might well be determined not to be overly impressed by the saviour of Wizarding Britain :p but I do think he would be fair to Harry in a professional capacity ... in his own, er, inimitable style. :D
This kind of person has lived through heaven and hell and therefore can be minister.....
Just so, Inkling. :tu: (I feel the same way about Sirius, actually. But Sirius would just lark about in the role. :p )
Anyway, good luck, Professor Snape! :) I'm delighted to see all the support you've got.
I must confess that I didn't vote for you. I voted for Hermione.
But at least I can have a clear conscience that my not voting didn't hurt your chances. :D :)
amandaevans August 3rd, 2008, 9:16 pm My vote is definatly on Snape. :agree:
Annielogic August 3rd, 2008, 9:19 pm :tu: Thank you for your support! Welcome to the group!
ignisia August 3rd, 2008, 9:25 pm I agree with you, Pearl! :tu: Snape may not have a pleasant personality, but he can do whatever he puts his mind to.
(But Sirius would just lark about in the role. :p )
 He really would. I can see him being absent for days on end while he roams around England in dog form, having fun. :p
And thanks for your vote, amandaevans! Snape appreciates it. ;)
snapegirl August 3rd, 2008, 9:34 pm Welcome amandaevans! We have 30 supporters now!
silver ink pot August 4th, 2008, 12:14 am I think Snape would be the best "Defense Against the Dark Arts" Minister the Wizarding World has ever had!
And I doubt that the Aurors are going to sit and cry if he says something sarcastic to them. They are supposed to be tough, right? It's like - OK, you Aurors, Grow Up! No cookies until you learn to be as tough as I am!
I made this banner - it's not the best because I don't know how to do everything on Gimp, so if any of you picture whizzes want to improve it, please feel free.

I edited this post with a darker version which looks alot better! :)
ignisia August 4th, 2008, 12:53 am I think Snape would be the best "Defense Against the Dark Arts" Minister the Wizarding World has ever had!
:agree: He's very good at being "flexible and inventive". :tu:
SIP, looks like you love the lighting effects too. :rotfl: I like what you've done with them. What picture did you use to make Severus?
silver ink pot August 4th, 2008, 3:48 am Ignisia: I used this picture of Snape form PoA, but I painted on the cloak:

I think the problem with my other banner is that the snow is too pale - it needs more darkness. :p (OK - I edited my previous post with a darker banner.)
thehollow August 4th, 2008, 4:13 am Again awesome banners everyone..still don't know what to use. :hmm:
And by the way, I disgree with many who think Harry wouldn't want to work with Snape if he became Minister. I think he'd be quite honored especially after all he's done for him and the wizarding world. :agree:
Colonel_Fubster August 4th, 2008, 6:21 am There is a huge difference between teaching beginners the same basic things year after year after year, watching them make the same mistakes over and over, and heading a staff of fully-trained, experienced adults who can do what they're told without whinging. :)
