crazy4harry23 August 13th, 2008, 10:29 pm It really surprised me not finding a Code Geass R2 thread, being this anime one of the few popular series being broadcast in this moment... but well that is not a problem.
Code Geass is one of the few anime that doesn't base itself on a previous manga. It's from Sunrise Studio but the character desing its from CLAMP. The story its about Japan in the year 2017, that has become a colony of the Holy Empire of Britannia, a massive empire that has taken almost the entire planet. The story center on a boy named Lelouch Lamperouge, an average britannian teenager that lives in Japan and wishes to liberate it from the Empire and also to build a peaceful world where his younger sister Nunnally can live happy. But one day he is given a especial power by a misterious girl named C.C. and so he decided to gather an army and finally fight the Britannian army.
That's basically the plot of the series. This is one pic of the anime, but from the second season:

So let's start the disicussion :D
Drusilla September 5th, 2008, 12:43 pm I got interested in this precisely because of CLAMP's involvement, it's epic in its scale. And I do think the character designs are fantastic.
WitchHunter September 14th, 2008, 9:17 am This show has been pretty good so far. Though if you watch closely, Lelouch is a slight Light Yagami clone. He even has the same appreciation for insane laughter. Not that that's a bad thing.
Drusilla September 17th, 2008, 5:25 pm I never noticed that...to me, it was always Suzaku and CC who were visual clones (of Syaoran from Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle and Chii from Chobits respectively).

It isn't too strong, but there are definitely some similarities. The whole changing the world thing, and as I mentioned above the tendency to break into insane laughter. The whole show is somewhat similar to Death Note with the attention to strategy rather than just giant robots blowing each other up.
SunXia March 14th, 2009, 8:45 am Another Anime that I got into a while back. it's incredibly well written and I love the tragedy that comes with it, it's quite moving.
Karleecakes July 1st, 2009, 8:46 pm Code Geass was amazing, definitely one of the best animes in recent years. I especially loved the chess references throughout, and Lelouch's love for the game, because I'm an avid fan too. To the person that mentioned CC being a Chii clone, I definitely saw that. Also, my boyfriend and I are cosplaying Suzaku and Villetta for New York Anime Festival this September, I'm pretty excited!
NightWhisper7 July 11th, 2009, 6:40 pm I first became interested in Code Geass because of fanart, obviously, but when I started watching I was amazed. I found it incredibly complex and interesting with multidimensional characters. I blew through the 1st and 2nd season in about two weeks, but I want to rewatch it and really capture the details. I thought the ending was phenomenal, too. Lelouch is a bit like Light from Death Note but much more likable because he actually cares about other people and has different motivations. I also liked Suzaku, C.C., Milly, and Cornelia. It was definitely one of the best anime I've seen.

Agreed. It's one of my favs.~
OrangeMoon August 19th, 2009, 10:44 am Code Geass is definitely one of the best animes I've watched.
It has some pretty good quotes too.
Here's one I particularly like:
C.C: Do you know why snow is white?
It's because it forgot what color it used to be.
Lelouch: I do not know why snow is white. But I think it is beautiful and I do not hate it.
EDIT: I have a question.
By the end of Code Geass, would you call Lelouch a hero, or a villain?
p.s: There is no right answer :)

Neither, that's the whole point. If Lelouch could be classified as a hero or a villain it wouldn't be interesting anymore.
DragonsBreath May 9th, 2010, 6:32 pm Best anime everrrrrrrrrrrr!! I want them to make season 3. I think Lelouch is alive. IMO he's a "Warlock" like C.C.. Like how his dad had to die to activate it.
merzi November 30th, 2010, 5:32 pm I didn't finish watching it but my best friend tells me it's the best of all the mecha shows there are! :D
I cried and everything as far as I've gone through it. Someday I'll finish it :)
Flametongue December 2nd, 2010, 5:52 am I absolutely loved this anime series. Lelouch, somebody who would have nothing to do with the direction of the world in normal circumstances, leads a massive rebellion on a global scale. Lelouch makes choices that cast him as both a hero and a villain at the same time, effectively making him neither. What I like most, however, is the fact that this show doesn't yield exclusively to epic robotic violence entirely, but instead focuses on the strategic aspect of Lelouch's plot. In this way it reminds me very much of Death Note. Not to mention the obvious similarity in their rise to power. Also, both hid behind a mask, whether figuratively or literally, and remained an obscure figure until nearly the end. However, what sets them truly apart is the difference in the scale of their central morals. In Death Note, it takes a hard look at what justice truly is when it comes to killing. While in Code Geass, it seems that justice is studied in the setting of its verification of a revolution/rebellion. Overall, I think I prefer Code Geass over Death Note.
