sticky August 22nd, 2008, 12:36 pm So, it is now said that more people download music across the internet now than going out and buying the actual CD's nowdays :)
So do any of you download music across the internet or do you prefer to buy the CD's? And of you do download of the internet, what sort of sites do you use??
I myself have an i pod, and sometimes use I tunes store to get an album as it is slightly cheaper than buying the actual CD although having the CD is nice...I've been looking for a music downloading website where you pay so much per month for so many songs that is compatible with my I pod and not illegal :rotfl:
:)

Luka13 August 22nd, 2008, 10:57 pm I really love downloading MP3s onto my computer from Amazon.com. And then I just do whatever from there. I can get everything a load cheeper by buying the MP3s than to just buy the CD which always costs a bit more for some reason... :hmm:

well thats what bothers me :rotfl: the actual CD's, you are paying for the packaging as well as the music, however if you are downloading across the internet you are only buying the music, not having to pay an extra few pounds for the plastic case too :)
MadisonInferius August 28th, 2008, 5:47 pm Usually I do prefer downloading over buying CDs, but like every music fan, I often just download a CD to sample then buy it later if it is good enough.
other_one September 1st, 2008, 5:21 am I prefer buying CD's than downloading. You never know when your computer is going to freak out or if you lose you iPod but a CD is physical. It's a keepsake, I suppose. I only buy songs when that's the only song I like from the artist.
Hysteria September 1st, 2008, 8:21 am If it is one of my favourite bands (Muse, Radiohead, DragonForce, Marilyn Manson etc) then I'll buy the CD. If it's a band I like but not love then I'll download the album from iTunes usually. Some albums I really want a hard copy of for my own collector's sake.
frack412 September 2nd, 2008, 12:48 pm I prefer to buy the CDs, too. When I shared a computer with my brother, I lost all my music two or three times because he always did something that required the computer to be completely wiped. With CDs at least I still had the music & just needed to upload it again.
If I can't find the CD in stores, or if I only want one or two songs off of it, then I'll buy the songs on iTunes. I try to make sure I back everything up, tho.
vampiricduck September 8th, 2008, 1:48 am I prefer buying. I download every now and then, but buying actually puts the thing in my hand, you know what I mean? I kind of enjoy having the physical thing, plus the artwork for some albums just can't be missed.
And, with my MP3 player just about to give up and clunk into non existence, I am now glad that I spend more on Cds!
Tesco in Ireland do a great offer, they sell the top 30 albums of a given week for only €14, which is less than pretty much anywhere else.
gipro2003 October 6th, 2008, 11:58 pm I do a little bit of both. Sometimes if I know I will have difficulty find the CD to download (which happens often with the type of music I listen too ), I'll buy the CD and then upload it to iTunes.
If it is a more common CD, or if I really want the CD but won't have the oppurtunity to buy it for a while, then I'm very likely to just download it through iTunes, or something similar.
ShanksForte October 7th, 2008, 12:21 am Isn't rhapsody supposed ot be a good one? Some people in my family have used it, but I forgot if they liked it or not.
Beatifically October 7th, 2008, 12:22 am I download. It's more eco-friendly that way than to use up cds. ;)
ETA: It's usually cheaper to download, too. If you really want in on a cd, you can use blank cds and put songs on there.
Rush October 7th, 2008, 12:37 am I also download. To me, spending $50+ on a concert ticket and $20+ on apparel, and $15+ on a dvd, more than pays for the music I download.
Raven_Girly October 7th, 2008, 11:13 am I mainly download from iTunes. But I'll go out and buy CDs if it's from one of my favourite bands. Some might say it's a waste of money but I like to have them as a keepsake. Also some of the bands I listen too are a bit obscure so their songs aren't always available on iTunes (iTunes New Zealand isn't that great). But sometimes it happens the other round too; I can't find the CD so I'll download. And sometimes iTunes gives you bonus tracks that aren't available anywhere else unless you download the whole album.
mexicant October 7th, 2008, 12:37 pm I need to have a hard copy of something. It's just a thing I've got. I cannot stand downloading, and on the rare occasions I do get something from iTunes I usually place it into a playlist of other songs I've downloaded and then burn a cd so I can have a hard copy. I guess I just don't trust digital media.
Gynni October 7th, 2008, 6:47 pm I do buy CD's, because it's very rare for me to buy music and when I've been saving money to buy the album for months, I'd want it in your hand. When I don't buy CD's I borrow from friends or listen to the songs on youtube.
gertiekeddle October 7th, 2008, 6:52 pm I download. It's more eco-friendly that way than to use up cds. ;)
ETA: It's usually cheaper to download, too. If you really want in on a cd, you can use blank cds and put songs on there.I get this, but I guess it's like with books for me - I kind of need to hold the cds in my hand. I'm a collector in that sense. And also I actually put many of my cds on pc and so listen over it mostly, it's just not the same to never read the booklet, never hold the case the band layoutet, etc. I love it too much to switch to downloading completely.
Melaszka October 7th, 2008, 9:12 pm It may just be my age, but I much prefer buying CDs - I've never really got my head round downloads. It's mostly fear of losing my entire record collection if my hard drive goes kaput (it happened once before, and I lost a load of files), but it's also liking having the booklet and the artwork etc (I still find CD booklets disappointing compared to the 12inch artwork you used to get with old vinyl albums - now I'm really showing my age!)
mexicant October 9th, 2008, 9:58 pm Ooh, yes, the booklets! That's another big reason for me to get cds as well. I like being able to have the lyrics on hand or see funny pictures that a lot of bands I like tend to put in there.
Voldemorts8thHorcrux October 9th, 2008, 10:37 pm I prefer downloading, but will buy if it's a person i like a lot and the cover art won't scare my parents
Lil_G135 October 10th, 2008, 6:06 am I prefer downloading, and have so long before it became a norm. I have a really...REALLY varied taste in music, and spending the money on a full cd when I only wanted two songs was just a waste of money. So Amazon and the zune marketplace are my best friends :)
That being said, If I like 6+ songs from an artist that's on the same cd, or just simply adore the artist (it's usually both) I'll go ahead and get the album(s), for memorabilia-sake. I'm actually paying more for the art, lyrics, and little extras more than the actual music :P
I am also very very paranoid about losing my collection, so I have all my music backed up at 3 different places and update it bi-monthly ^^;

I used to do that too, until my music downloading got a bit uncontrolled and i ran out of space on my memory stick, it just got too annoying to do

That's when an external hard drive becomes essential! (though all my music could hypothetically fit on my flash drive... but I've got movies and videos on the same device that definitely wouldn't, and I don't want to split them).
madbouthp October 10th, 2008, 8:44 pm It's soo much more better to download albums etc than it is to buy the CD. An average album costs about 14.99 in the UK, whereas on something like itunes it's like 7.99.
Sooo much cheaper!
Voldemorts8thHorcrux October 10th, 2008, 8:45 pm I don't bother with movies and videos, only music and my random stuff like pictures and other files and music. I had to take my music off because i ran out of memory :grumble:/ My pictures file alone takes up nearly 1 GB
Luna_Lovegood12 October 13th, 2008, 12:55 pm I think some people (im not though) are still buying the actual albums with the cases if they are collectors or if it one of their favorite singers or bands.
But it is SO useful to be able to buy just the songs from the album you want insead of paying extra money for the whole album! :D Thank-you iTunes!! :)
Hysteria October 13th, 2008, 1:09 pm I use iTunes if it's an album I like but some artists (Muse, Anberlin, Radiohead, Marilyn Manson etc) I collect so I want the proper CD. That way I'm have a hard copy and will never lose them :)
Also some artists don't release their albums very widely so I can only get them off iTunes.
Raven_Girly October 14th, 2008, 10:46 am I am also very very paranoid about losing my collection, so I have all my music backed up at 3 different places and update it bi-monthly ^^;
A couple of months a go, a virus completely wiped my hard drive so I lost all of my music. Luckily I was able to extract most of it off my ipod but it still freaked me out - I almost completely lost faith in technology that day. I've invested in an extrernal hard drive since (there is no way I could fit it all on a memory stick - I have over 20GB of music alone) and I back up my music etc. just about every week. I'm kind of a compulsive downloader, it's an expensive habit! I also keep CDs of all my favourite bands, just to be sure. I don't what I'd do if my music left me...:(
But it is SO useful to be able to buy just the songs from the album you want insead of paying extra money for the whole album! :D Thank-you iTunes!! :)
Good point. This is especially good if you're just getting into a new band and you're not completely sure if you're ready to buy their whole album; you just want to sample them, you know?
Melaszka October 14th, 2008, 11:22 am But it is SO useful to be able to buy just the songs from the album you want insead of paying extra money for the whole album! :D Thank-you iTunes!! :)
That's very true, in a way, but there's also a danger that you lose a lot that way. In a lot of cases, I now don't listen much to the tracks that made me want to buy the album in the first place, but I have gradually come to absolutely love the tracks that I used to skip when I first bought it because they didn't instantly appeal to me. Having to eat the whole box of chocolates when you really only want the caramel and the chocolate brazil can sometimes really expand your horizons and taste - you may discover that you like the strawberry cream after all.
Voldemorts8thHorcrux October 15th, 2008, 12:07 am Apparently I have 1 GB of pictures and only 500 MB of downloaded music....
PureBloodGirl October 15th, 2008, 1:21 am I prefer downloading. It's a lot quicker and cheaper than buying cds. Occasionly if I want to own the cd than I'll go to the store and buy it, but I haven't bought a cd in about a year.
leah49 October 15th, 2008, 1:38 am I buy CDs, because I do want to support my favorite artists. I'm not a big concert goer, so I don't support them that way. I do download music, but I download stuff that I most likely wouldn't buy in the store. I wouldn't buy the album; I only want just one song. I don't download entire albums. I did a few times, but I only did it because the album was no longer released. I don't haven an ipod, so what I do download I burn on CDs.
If it's my favorite artist then I will most likely like each (or the majority of) song on the album, so I know that I'm not wasting my money buying the CD.

I'm hoping that my parents will let me buy the David Cook CD. I love his music, but my parents aren't big on buying me stuff....I'm checking out a ton of other artists I like too, to make sure the cover art won't freak my parents out

Wow, nothing hadn't happened to me yet, but between the horror stories I heard, a terrible glitch the zune software use to have, and the prospect of getting my hard drive wiped while going into service finally pushed me to get one.
Amazing, having 20gb worth of music! I have 5 gb used on my zune and that's music, pictures, videos, and podcasts all together!

That is true. I'm not as picky as I use to be when it comes to music -- a chocolate box though? I'm sticking with caramels and a few others! (everytime I try the rest they get worse xP)
Insomniatic October 15th, 2008, 7:47 am CDs for me, I like the whole concept of a theme and a design and the cd and the whole package is a a wonderful thing, I hate downloading cuz you don't get that, the only time I would download would be to get a song I can't get anywhere else (Demo's b-sides, songs not released in my country, and obviously sampling albums)

Aww that's a nice way of looking at it. :) This has happened to me more than once - the tracks that I used to skip have eventually turned out to be long term favourites. But a lot of the time I find that my instant favourites stood out for me straight away for a reason - they are often the best songs. Sometimes you get sick of them and find more appreciation for the skipped tracks but if it really is a good song, you should never get sick of it, right? :)

Yep it's kind of sad that I had to experience it for myself before I got my act together and started backing things up. Although I got most of music back there were a lot of things that I have now lost forever - photos, documents and university assignments. My Mum couldn't get over the fact that it was the loss of my music that bothered me the most! It's kind of insane.

Haha yeah...remember what I said about being a compulsive downloader...? A lot of it is from CDs and stuff that I've gotten off friends but I've spent a ton of money on iTunes downloads. To be honest, I haven't even listened to a lot of it yet. I try to go through and delete songs that I don't like every now and then, to free up space on my computer but it's often too hard for me to delete stuff. I'm always like, "I might want to listen to that one day..."

Same here. I like getting the booklet with the pictures and lyrics etc. I just like having a hard copy, especially for albums that I really love. It costs more but a lot of the time, it's worth it.
SSJ_Jup81 October 16th, 2008, 11:32 am It depends for me. With what I like, it's not easily accessible, so I might download it. When I actually get the funds to buy what I downloaded, then I'll actually do so.
My problem is that the majority of what interests me aren't things released in the US so it takes me a good while before I can buy it since I have to worry about things like import fees.
Overall, though, if I really like something or an artist/group in general, I'll try my best to purchase cds to support said artist or group.
If downloading something, now-a-days anyway, it's mostly to sample to see if I even like said artist/group enough to purchase stuff by him/her/it.
Voldemorts8thHorcrux October 17th, 2008, 1:37 am Raven_Girly:
Well, I listen to like alternative, rock, metal, etc. Stuff like that that usually has very freaky cover art that my parents probably wouldn't let me buy . I shudder to think what they would do if I showed them Marilyn Manson. :rotfl: So for now, it's downloading for me :D
Electricfeel November 25th, 2008, 1:18 am Usually download. If there's a singer that I really like I will go buy their music but.. I find that most of the time I buy Cd's I never actually end up listening to half the songs on them, so I just download individual songs. I always buy all my Ministry of Sound Cd's though, or any other dance compilation.
vampiricduck November 25th, 2008, 1:59 am I like cds, but on occasion I download. I can't help it and I feel old fashioned, but there's something in me that likes to attach itself to the physical cd.. I know that that's a bit silly and becoming redundant, but I just can't help myself. :D
I usually don't download because, quite frankly, using a credit card, it's too easy for me to spend money that I technically don't have. So buying cds and limiting my downloading is safest for me! :D

A very valid point. I can see how having to use a credit card could be problematic for some people. It's happened to me where I've just downloaded a few things and not really thought about how much I was spending. (Not a drastic amount, it was only about $30) My only thing is I'm more into certain songs than into a group or genre in general, so I can't see buying a CD for $15 when I want only one song on it, and I can dowload that for only .99.
Hardcore_Raver November 25th, 2008, 4:24 pm I do download songs, but only dance music which I buy from specialist online stores. I am a DJ and use CD decks, and a lot of dance music is now only available online, so I buy it and then burn it onto CD straight away so I can use it with my equipment.
Any other music I like I will buy the CD. I fear that this habit people are getting into of just buying one or two individual tracks off of iTunes may lead to the disappearence of the album. Why would bands continue to produce albums when the vast majority of people only download one or two songs?

Why would bands continue to produce albums when the vast majority of people only download one or two songs?I'm afraid of this, too. For sure I enjoy some songs from an album more than others and accordingly listen to them more often, but still I love get the whole piece of art the musicians produced. It often tells an awesome story.

I'm totally opposite though. My taste is so random that I may love one song by a certain artist, but hate every other song. There are very few artists that I enjoy most of their work. If that is the case though, I would consider purchasing the album rather than just dowloading.
vampiricduck November 29th, 2008, 3:36 am I agree with you all. In general, if I like the artist, I will buy the album automatically. But if I hear just one song somewhere random that I like, I'll research where it's from and usually I will download only that song. I suppose it's narrowing my tastes somewhat, but I know what I like and sometimes I do get into new artists with this method. On deciding that I like the song and the sound, I might venture further. It's how I got into the Killers, Kings of Leon etc.
I seem to prefer having the actual record too, by the way- because often the sleeve and artwork tell part of the artistic story that I feel is lost in downloading.

True. A lot of people overlook the fact that a great album is more than just a collection of songs but a thematically linked series of tracks where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

Doesn't that depend on the artist and, to a certain extent, the genre, though?
For example, I don't think prog rock could ever function without the album, but pop is almost by definition based on freestanding three-minute songs, which are often arbitrarily collected into albums without any overarching theme. I don't think that necessarily detracts from these albums being "great" - it's just a different approach.
Voldemorts8thHorcrux November 30th, 2008, 5:25 pm I certainly prefer a nice cd but downloading is more convenient and either way I downlaad complete albums

Have to say I agree with that. Sometimes it matters, other times it doesn't. The thing is that with people like Radiohead, Coldplay, REM, Bob Dylan- often their albums require a whole listen for you to be able to understand exactly what's going on, and frequently, as I've stated above, the album atrtwork adds to that.
The pop albums, though still full of merit, and I do own some of them to confirm that, the approach is very different. I often find that on their own, those songs are great. In a different album of a different genre, I think a song can take on a whole new quality and meaning with the backdrop of an album as a whole.
That's partially why I don't download as much as I could, to be honest.

The early Beatles were pure pop based on singles but they were still extremely ticked when the song orders and album composition as demonstrated by their protest on the Yesterday and Today cover.
"This cutting up of their albums irritated the Beatles, who felt they had "put a lot of work into the sequencing" of the British versions."

OK, fair point. I still think every artist is different, though, and while for many the album as a whole is a carefully considered statement, for some it is just a random collection of songs. And as most artists do release singles (Led Zeppelin are the only exception which imemdiately springs to mind, although I'm sure there are others), presumably they do also expect tracks to be treated as freestanding units, too.
Plus, downloading has made it easier for listeners to create their own compilations - so arguably part of the responsibility for building disparate songs into a collection that makes a statement which is bigger than sum of its parts has passed from the artist to the listener. Isn't that exciting in a way?
I'm kind of playing devil's advocate here, anyway, as I'd hate the album to die, too. I feel it's unlikely to happen, however - I'm of an age to remember experts' assurances that home video would mean the end of the traditional cinema and that CDs would render vinyl obsolete.
Vladimir_Lupin December 11th, 2008, 3:51 pm I simply don't have the money to buy cds (or even single tracks for that matter).
I will buy a few albums that I REALLY like a lot if I have money to spare but that's perhaps once every two years. Used to be different, but, alas.

Definitely if I love an album, i will buy it original.
If I love a movie I will buy it original

Ydoomrotsala December 22nd, 2008, 5:47 pm I never buy CDs anymore. I only ever download things from iTunes. Most of the time I just download a few songs, but if I like them I'll download the whole album. It's just so much easier and more convenient, and I can burn a backup CD if I want to anyway.
Auror Fett June 20th, 2009, 3:47 pm I only buy CDs from artists I really like or if I like just about every song on the record.(which is rare unless they're one of my fav artists) Everything else I just download off iTunes or Amazon; the quality isn't as good as CDs but it doesn't bother me.
Vig June 20th, 2009, 5:07 pm I first hear a song on websites where they allow you listen to it and if I like it, I definitely buy a CD. The sound quality is just so much more superior!!!! :)
Wab June 21st, 2009, 1:35 am Good point. Although fine for portable and personal players, the drop in quality when an MP3 is played through a good system is quite noticeable.
Hysteria June 23rd, 2009, 3:03 am I'm sure if I listened carefully I could tell the difference between CD and MP3 quality but I just don't listen to CDs anymore. Ever. I only listen to music on my computer or my iPod (both MP3).
On my Nintendo DSi I can only add AAC music clips which is (supposedly) superior to MP3 but I cant tell the difference with that either.
So having said all that, I wont go out and buy a CD for the extra quality. I'll buy it because I collect the artist and want all the artwork that goes along with having a physical CD as opposed to a digital copy.
Luna_Luvr55 June 24th, 2009, 7:33 pm So, it is now said that more people download music across the internet now than going out and buying the actual CD's nowdays :)
So do any of you download music across the internet or do you prefer to buy the CD's? And of you do download of the internet, what sort of sites do you use??
I prefer to download music. On iTunes (that's what I use :D), you can copy all of your music onto a CD anyway. But I see what you mean about it being nice to get the actual CD sometimes. But I like downloading it and using it in my iPod better, because I have 48 different albums on there, and with several CDs I only like one or two songs... So would lose track and get bored of all of those CDs
LilyDreamsOn June 24th, 2009, 7:43 pm I like cds, but on occasion I download. I can't help it and I feel old fashioned, but there's something in me that likes to attach itself to the physical cd.. I know that that's a bit silly and becoming redundant, but I just can't help myself. :D
I'm the exact same. Since I don't enjoy shopping, I consider CDs my one expense (apart from books). I never buy clothes, I just head straight to HMV. It's like shopping for books. Certain covers will attract my eye, and then I read the back to see what the songs are named. I'll randomly buy a CD by an unknown artist to test it out. I'm a bit of a CD-aholic. So my collection of CDs is now a bit absurd.
I've never bought music online, and I don't think it's something I'll start doing. If I like the music, I'd rather spend a couple of extra dollars to have the album art and the CD itself, too. I might be strange, but I love having the hard copy. There's something entirely unique to playing the original CD on a good sound system without the internet being involved.
magic_is_might June 24th, 2009, 8:02 pm I prefer CD's. You have the physical case and the booklet. Whereas if you download it all, you risk a computer crash and losing all of your music. And if your like me, I don't feel like burning my thousands of songs to backup CD's. My dad's computer crashed, loosing over 8,000+ songs we downloaded before we had the chance to back them up on a disc or drive. We couldn't redownload them w/o paying thousands of dollars. Buying the CD seems easier and feels safer.
xFluerDelacourx June 24th, 2009, 9:43 pm I personally like CDs as well as listening to music on the computer. Problem is I don't have access to the computer all the time cause its shared amongst my family. And theres always the threat of a computer crashing when you burn CDs (or at least with my computer). Also I really can't afford a MP3 player.
I especially like to buy CDs that are from my favorite artists cause of the artwork and the fact that I own a physical copy of their CD.
KeepItDark June 25th, 2009, 8:04 am I prefer Cd's when it comes to my music....something about having a hard copy, with the little booklet inside. but i only use iTunes when i have to, which is a good portion of the time, since when i go to ordering the cds i want, its an arm and a leg, and itunes is cheaper.....though songs have gone up 30 cents or so....
Siriusly_C July 7th, 2009, 7:21 am I usually only download music from iTunes when i'm just getting into a band or only like a handful of songs by them, otherwise I shell out a few more bucks and buy the physical album, because I just like having the physical album.
YellowBrickRoad July 7th, 2009, 7:44 am If its an album that isn't released in the US, then I'll download it, same goes with singles. But if you can find it here, I usually get the cds. I prefer it that way.

Freak of nature July 7th, 2009, 3:25 pm So, it is now said that more people download music across the internet now than going out and buying the actual CD's nowdays :)
This might be true, but I still like to touch the cd case while I listen to the music. Old fashioned? Maybe. But that's me.:err:
Outnitwit July 7th, 2009, 6:53 pm I refuse to pay to download music so long as CDs are still available- also not liking the risk of losing download music in a computer incident. If I want a single song I'll try and get it from a friend, but otherwise I'd rather pay an extra few dollars to get the physical album from Amazon or I try and buy hard-to-find CDs secondhand for top condition- and at half the price, at used record stores. I'm really disappointed that a lot of the major places where I used to buy CDs (future shop, hmv, etc.) are cutting back on CDs and in most cases no longer keep in stock the artists that I want- even when it comes to new releases that a couple years ago there would have been rows of copies of. And so much cool stuff is done with artwork album artwork/presentation now! I want the packaging when I buy music! I'm glad that we're moving away from plastic jewel cases to more cardboard sleeves and a lot of the artists that I listen to go all out in their cover designs.

A girl after my own heart. There's so much more emotion in the music whenone buys it from the store. And the cases usually have some awesome art, like you said. And it was at point a marketing trick too. And it IS fn.
CARROLiZER July 7th, 2009, 7:35 pm but, I bought my first CD for ages a week ago.
A simple, but great Johnny Cash album.

The download store I use as a place of last resort stores all previous purchases in my user account which can be downloaded again for free.

No warnings this time, but some posts have been deleted. Thanks for reading our rules, guys.
Tams23 September 14th, 2009, 8:43 pm I download music on a daily basis but it's more about having a try and just being curious.. If i like sth enough, i'll buy the cd. Else i'll just delete it. It's so much nicer, you got the artwork and everything. And if i like an artist, i always want to support them, knowing they've put so much work in their music, it's only right..
There's nothing much i care more about than i do about music so if i can't spend money on that, then what else, really...
AldeberanBlack September 14th, 2009, 9:42 pm I've never downloaded music.
But I have heard it after other people have downloaded it.
I am unimpressed.
It will never compare to getting a CD and putting it on, and even that doesn't compare with the richness of sound from an old vinyl
KeepItDark September 14th, 2009, 10:39 pm the richness of sound from an old vinyl
nothing can be compared to that.
Spirit September 15th, 2009, 11:35 pm I like downloading from iTunes. Mostly because I rarely really like a certain band/artist much. If I was buying CDs instead, I would be spending $15-$20 for one or two songs  . So, just wouldn't make sense for me to buy CDs when I can spend $.99 or $1.29 and get exactly what I wanted. I'm also not too worried about computer crashes, since whenever my iPod has something on it (songs, etc.) that isn't on the computer, it asks if I want to transfer everything from the iPod onto the computer.
The only CDs I will get are the Swichfoot ones, because they're the one band I know where I actually like all the songs on the CD.
Fawkesfan1 September 19th, 2009, 7:50 pm Speaking of downloading songs, I heard some sad news on the news last night :sigh:. Musicians want itunes to start charging more for the music. I can kind of understand why they'd want to do that in part, yet I figure it's rather greedy.
From a honest viewpoint -- people generally pay over $10 or so for a cd... that's around the price that itunes charges for songs (from 99 cents up to $1.29 -- which I think is fair pricing). Any more than a 10 to 25 cent raise in price -- would just be ludicris in my opinion.
People should have the right to get a song or two from an artist from there (legally) instead of having to get the entire cd if they don't want to. They'd still be supporting them for the most part.
Edit: I just found out that it's a price drop for some songs, down to 69 cents for some songs and only a raise for others up to a $1.29 (which isn't too bad of a hike)... and I can see why the musicians would be angry about that. My bad :p. Guess I didn't catch the entire story... thanks nightly news...

AldeberanBlack September 19th, 2009, 8:09 pm The music industry is worried, like print journalism, because technology through the Internet is rendering them obsolete.

That's me. I don't mind getting music CD's... but if I only like one or a few songs on a CD... I'd like to be able to just get the ones that I want.
I was able to do that recently with my ipod. It was fun looking through the different music on itunes. I was surprised that they had as much of the music that I wanted.
LilyLunaPotter October 21st, 2009, 5:00 am I download songs mostly...but for really important CDs, I go out and actually buy the disks. Like with Humanoid. Bought that in a flash.
I just find it easier to click "buy", than it is to drive all the way down to Best Buy, then wait in line, and then after I get home, listen to it.
