Historical romances - anyone interested in them?janblack October 23rd, 2008, 2:15 pm I love historical romances.. :love:especially of the 17th and 18th century.... anyone here shares my opinion?? or do you hate romances completely?? lilyrose October 25th, 2008, 3:03 pm Historical fiction- yes I'm interested..:) But when it becomes too much of mush, cheese and romance, with a little bit of inaccurate history thrown in for name sake..count me out:no: In that case I'd rather read Historic non-fiction..like "Freedom at Midnight"... I agree with her! Cheeseness bothers me! And then the whole "Inaccurate histroy" ticks me off, espically if its about someting big. RavenLH January 5th, 2009, 7:48 am I love historical romances, what I like to do is find an author that turns out good books, my favorite authors are Julie Garwood, she's got modern stuff too, but it's all good, Julia Quinn, she cracks me up, hilrious, Iris Johansen, she got me into reading romance in the first place although she has a lot of modern day stuff, she's big into conspricies, Christina Dodd, Lisa Kleypas , and Stephiane Laurens also write really good stuff. What I really like about Stephanie Laures is that hers are mostly two big series which I love, because it's like the story never ends. :D RemusJ February 5th, 2009, 2:57 pm my favorite authors are Julie Garwood, she's got modern stuff too, but it's all good I love Julia Garwoods historical romances! Especially her Scottish ones, but the The Bride was great too. Den_muggle February 7th, 2009, 3:56 pm Julie Garwood rocks! I LOVE her stuff. Most of my books are historical romances. I love happy endings and historical romances, for all their cliches and inaccuracies, always have happy endings. :D I also like Johanna Lindsey (although her last few haven't been as good), Jude Devereaux is fabulous! I can't think now who some of the others are as most of my books have been packed away for several years due to space constraints (another reason I'm looking forward to getting enough saved up to move). Constance O'Banyon (sp?). I loved the Delaney trilogies (I guess you'd call them that, though there were about 4 sets of trilogies and an original book) that were written together by Iris Johanson, Kay Hooper and Fayrene Preston. I haven't read anything else by any of them, though. I don't like the Regency ones that are mostly political intrigue. Otherwise, I like most time periods, although the American Indian ones get a bit old after awhile, as they have very, very little variation of woman is kidnapped by hostile tribe, falls in love with kidnapper, he falls in love with her, white people try to rescue her and are appalled that she would prefer the heathen and she goes back to her true love. RemusJ February 8th, 2009, 1:29 pm I haven't read a historical romance in ages... I think I might check out some of the recommendations in this thread! janblack March 4th, 2009, 3:04 pm Sorry, I'm as much in the dark as you are, seeing as I've read very little of historical romances. But if anyone else would want to do it, please, by all means go ahead. :) |
