He is also considerably too young.

Well in seven years he'd be eligible, except for that natural born citizen thing.

For sheer cheek, tenacity and cleverness, the Voldy team deserve a lifetime of applause, IMO. :rotfl:

Absolutely true. Let me second that.

The Voldemort team was amazing. Putting together reasonable arguments while staying in character is something that I didn't think possible before I saw it..... and that they also managed to be the most humorous team in the competition is quite a feat. :tu: :tu: :tu:

Wait, wait, I thought this was the Ministry of Magic Elections thread? Can we please leave the US elections out of this? Last time I checked none of these candidates were running for President of the USA (although I wouldn't mind Harry being President--too bad he's not a natural born citizen).

leah49- I don't think it really lapsed into a talk about the US Elections. It was more.. crafty inferences for the Cedric team!! And good crafty too! ;)
Leah, VampDucky has it right. I was making a parallel between Obama's program and Cedric, but I was asking for votes for Cedric, not Obama, who had already won! (I'm glad he won, but that's beside the point.)

Thanks for the label of "good crafty", VampDucky. Do you think I'm a bit Slytherin-ish for a Hufflepuff?

All right, here goes again - The US have voted for Obama. Obama and Cedric have the same planetary platform. Won't some of you please give Cedric and George your votes if you haven't cast them yet? :D

Maybe we really better leave out the references to the US Elections completely. We actually did quite good without them the last weeks. Thanks! :)

Now in the one and a half days that are left, if we could only find 3 more votes and reach 30. :sigh:

Where are all the Cedric fan girls, where are all the Twins fans, where are the Hufflepuffs? :hmm:

If we're going on about looks, you can't deny Pretty Boy Diggory is the best-looking of them all. Please go see our final thread and our campaign thread again. Three more little votes, please? :D

In most international agreements, they say 12:01 am on such or such a date or, European way, 00:01 on 8 November 2008 in the present case.

So this would be 12:01 am on Saturday morning. One minute doesn't make a lot of difference, and it wouldn't be so confusing. :D

I agree. Their initial choice of candidates was odd - or (to be perfectly honest even from where I am sitting) they lost out on some interesting candidates by excluding dead characters.

I can't believe it's almost over!!! :upset: Before this thread closes, I just want to say that yes, I know i complained a lot about being in last place, i definitely had a lot of fun with the elections and still don't regret voting and supporting Voldemort and Lucius and I hope everyone else feels the same way about the candidates they chose and had tons of fun doing the campaigns and challenges. Everyone should feel immensly proud about what they have done for their campaign and all of all the work and effort they put in. Hermione and Neville may seem to be the winners but i definitely loved seeing everyone's stuff. :)

Jessica
November 7th, 2008, 11:58 pm
And we have a winner. On behalf of the entire staff I'd like to congratulate the Granger/Longbottom team on a well deserved victory after a tremendous campaign.

I'd also like to take a moment to thank the other teams, all of whom ran excellent campaigns, some with very few supporters.

The Snape/Weasley team did an exceptional job and was within a hair of winning outright. I will confess that while I'll never be a Snape fan, they managed to convince me that he would be an excellent Minister and, of course, Molly would be an asset to any administration.

The Harry/Ron team did a wonderful job and I remain convinced that Harry would be an wonderful Minister. The Arthur/Filius team also did a superb job with a pair of very strong candidates. Team Voldemort kept us all laughing with a campaign that was exceptional in every task even though I'm still just as glad the Voldemort will not be Minister (sorry guys!)

Team Cedric is the Moral Fiber winner, they really pulled together some extremely good work with very few members. Sirius and Bill definitely had the best looking pair, and their work was amazing, especially the Wolfsbane Charity which was one of my favorites. Finally Luna and Dobby were in character throughout and really would have done a great job had they won.

So an amazing job by all of you. I'm glad you had so much fun. As a It's Not Completely Over treat, we're going to ask each of you to contribute something to the Holiday Calender in December (which Hes will tell you more about as it approaches).

Thank you again for some incredible entries and for a really fun two months.

Just wanted to be the first ordinary voter (as opposed to campaign team member) to say Congratulations to the Granger/Longbottom team (whom I did finally vote for about 24 hours ago, though I was an Undecided till the last moment) and to all the other teams as well. I'm sure I speak for many in thanking you all for the level of entertainment you've given us, and the hard work and creativity that you've all shown. it was really difficult to choose between your candidates on the basis of their teams' work, when it was all so good.

I'm probably almost the only non campaign team member still up, or there'd be more congratulations being posted. (And in my case it was accidental. I was busily posting on another thread and suddenly realised what the time was and that the poll would have closed.) Now I think I'd better retire to bed myself. I've already lost a lot of sleep waiting up for the results in another election earlier this week. ;)

And the Snape team were thinking that the Social Groups should be kept- for us to stop by from time to time and say hello. I would hate for us to fall out of contact.

Oooh! I have a new UT! I loved my old one very much and I love this new one too! Thank you so much!

And I thank the most dedicated and hardworking members of our Team who made it possible for me and others in my team (who like me did not contribute except to vote) to get this UT (despite having 60 members, the Snape team also worked with very few active members). They were a very small bunch of people who came in everyday and worked very hard and made all this possible. They presented a character most people love to hate in a new light and it is entirely due to those small number of people, (ones who mostly posted in the first Spotlight thread plus a couple of others) that we stand in second place and came close to winning and making Snape and Molly Ministers for Magic. it was their enthusiasm, their hardwork, their dedication and above all their love for Snape that made them get together day after day and present a view of Snape that not many thought was possible!

Thank you Team! You guys are the best!

But I do not second this. Once again, TGW has completely went on the modest side and refuses to admit how she helped us with tactics, with thoughts, with ideas and beliefs, with policy and with being (arguably) the most encouraging member of our team. At 5am, TGW was there to tell us how great we were doing- and regardless of what we were doing, she would always stop by to say hello, to pass around hugs and to lighten the mood.

TGW- Do you think you would have that UT if your contribution was so tiny as you make it out to be? You got the UT because you deserved it. :huggles:

Without you, we would have been lost. Fact.

Isn't it funny that, with all the Weasleys who ran, it ended up being a Weasley by marriage who won?

Congrats to the winning team and the runner-up. You guys left us all far, far behind. You were awesome. :tu:

Ahem *cough, cough* you'll be working on setting up a cabinet now, won't you? You know, you could use a Beyond the Veil knowledgeable guy and a proven successful businessman to help you run the Wizarding Community and helping with relations with other races. You know where to find us if you need us.

Seriously: Congrats to everyone who participated in the contest, hung on come heck or high water, and did such a wonderful job for the enjoyment of us all.

ETA: Darn, I miss my campaign signature. :(

TGW: How many times were we the only two people awake and in the social group after everyone else was gone, and eventually I would have to go to sleep and leave you there by yourself! How many times were you the only one there to make decisions for the group? Nearly every day and night!

How many times did you cheer people on when they were exhausted from writing speeches and interviews?

So:  We all love you!

And congratulations to all the teams for their hard work. You all made this very fun to follow.

Now, remember Voldemort's campaign of "Vote Voldemort or Die" with the quote "A vote for Voldemort is a vote to save a life... yours?" Well, for all of you who didn't vote for Voldemort - watch out!

May I also add that I think the Snape team were awesome! I was only a supporter but I was totally blown away by all their hard work which resulted in the team giving the winners a really good run for their money. At the start I honestly didn't think that Snape had a serious chance but you did an amazing job. (The Republicans could learn a thing or two from you guys!)

I also want to congratulate all the teams, who have all done a great job! :)
Then I want to thank the Snape/Molly team, you have made the start of my time here on CoS a really good time, even though I did not contribute with much. And for being a bunch of beautiful people.

And a thank you to all those who have voted and followed the election.

And thanks to everyone who have been here to make this game really fun!
Thank you all! :)

My turn, my turn!!!

Obviously this is a message mostly for the Snape/Molly team, something from me because you all made my "comeback" to CoS the best ever, I think. I loved working with anyone who dropped by the social group, and out of this election, I built up the confidence to make 55 or so new friends, not all of them within the Snape/Molly group, but nonetheless I put all of that down to the election, so thanks.

You were all so welcoming and so willing to hear my ideas and thoughts and you were all wonderful to allow me to help out with writing and graphics and so forth- it was an absolute honour to work with you lot (you know who you are obviously)- and I wouldn't change it for the world. I made honest friends on here, people that I know I would love to meet in RL, and you've all been such a support system for me when I'm tired and grumpy and I still have half a speech to write before we can post it, etc etc.. :) So thanks for that too.

And finally, thanks for being the best team ever. I know that other teams did great work- and another team won, and that was well deserved, but I think it can be widely agreed that the Snape fandom has always been particular vehement in our support. I'm delighted to be a part of that fandom. The Professor would be mighty proud guys. Thank for welcoming me, for helping me out, for letting me help and for being my friends. I couldn't ask for a more successful end to the game, because for me, this ending is perfect.

As for the other teams, there are some people in particular I do wish to thank- notably lilyrose, Fleur du Jardin, Muggle Magic and gottriplets for all the fun I had with you lot in the run of the campaign.

And of course for the moderators. I managed to make friends with a few of you in the course of all of this, so thanks for that too- and the game was brilliant, we do appreciate it so much, so thanks to you too.

And for those of us who were so very involved in all of this, even when we fought at times, I want you all to know that this was part of the game and I appreciate it. So for Klio, Den Muggle, wickedwickedboy, GodricHollow and Voldemorts8thHorcrux - your contribution has been huge. Thank you so much for being so active during the game- it definitely made it all worthwhile, and I hope the bitterness we might have held in the last few weeks can wear off and we can all be friends- even better ones than before. It would be silly for us to not talk when, after all, we all came here to do the same thing. I want you to know that I am so glad I met all of you- even when we disagreed, it's somehow still fun. So thanks to you guys and all of the teams for doing such a wonderful job. I had never thought there could be so many talented people on this forum, but there are!! :D

And for Sev. My dancing partner, love of my life, the man I drool for and adore, thanks for letting us manipulate you, put words in your mouth and have you dance with a gal in a duck costume. We appreciate it- it definitely brought your fans together, so cheers..

Well done to all the other teams as well, it's been an amazing experience taking part in these Minister Electons. The ideas, slogans, speechs and policies that people worked so hard and a huge amount of time on developing, were always very impressive to read. :tu::D

Congrats to Hermione and Neville for a job well done. I'm sure they will serve the wizarding community admirably.

Also a huge congrats to the Snape/Molly team. When I joined up with you guys, I seriously intended to be active in the campaign, but things came up as they sometimes do, and my time on the forums was pretty limited. But you did a great job without me and the campaign's success exceeded my wildest expectations. The "Life of Severus Snape" video that you put together was simply amazing.

Good job to everyone else too, particularly the Voldemort/Lucius team. You somehow managed to get 22 votes, and your contributions to the election were always good for a laugh.

Sure - they definitely would be asked. And I think the other teams would probably be consulted, too, and quite probably asked whether they'd want to take some role. That's how I see Hermione and Neville anyway.... :)

But after eight weeks of hard work I sincerely hope that no-one expects us to keep up the game! You know what - after our campaign here I seriously thought how on earth Obama will now go on and do even HARDER work than he did so far for the campaign! ARGH!

But then, I guess we have lives apart from politics ;)

Vampiricduck - I'd like to thank you personally. You are right, things did get a bit tense sometimes - but you always managed to cross lines and never begrudged any team, even ours, praise for particular pieces of work.

You have no idea how much that meant to me at least. This campaign really wasn't always easy - but someone from another team coming along and actually just commenting in some way - that could make a few hours' work more worthwhile. I mention you particularly, because I think (from what it looked like on the surface, and from our end) that crossing the line between our teams in particular may have become difficult at times. So I really thank you for keeping your perspective. It really meant a lot.

I am sure I am forgetting someone if I try to list everyone else - but I'd also like to mention in particular lilyrose, wickedwickedboy and leah49 who were also regular visitors to our thread and sometimes made our day just be acknowledging that they had actually had a look. :tu:

Thanks for all the congratulations and compliments.... :)

It's very humbling and satisfying at the same time to see so many responding so positively ....

Looking back, now that i am gaining some distance and can think about the process, I am still amazed! In the beginning we really had no idea how this would pan out: to a few people Hermione seemed an obvious person to nominate, but it took days before she even had a nomination thread. After all, lots of HP characters have fan threads in COS, but (AFAIK) Hermione doesn't - or if she does, the admiration is pretty quiet. Hermione doesn't even feature very much in the character discussions. Neville gets a little more attention (though not much, either), and otherwise seemed like an outsider, in spite of his obvious qualities.

Initially, I at least really had no great hopes for their chances, to be perfectly honest - although the first exit poll was of course promising. Nevertheless, the final win is still a little difficult to believe. We weren't taking anything for granted till the very last moment. In fact, we did at least have an outline for a concession speech, drafted just a day before the polls closed....

So yes..... thanks for all the lovely comments... and for the votes. :)

Yes... There were a fair few "I hope this doesn't turn out to be one of those "This is going to be the best Christmas Walford's ever had"" posts...

Congrats to the Hermione, Neville team! great work! And thank you to some members of other teams that helped my struggling teamates whilst i was nowhere to be seen. You guys are great! I wish things were more like that in real politics. I strongly suggest to any admins reading this we do this again. LOL, in a way it is :) ... we knew we were doing OK - but we really didn't know whether your team (in true form) would be able to pull a rabbit out of the hat (or, more appropriately, brew up the right potion) just at the last moment! :D Obviously you had a better way of knowing whether you could get another ten votes from somewhere at short notice or not... ;)

On behalf of my running mate Dobby and our wonderful campaign team, I would like to officially congratulate Hermione and Neville on becoming the new Co-Ministers of Magic. We have been friends for a long time, and I do not doubt that all of your excellent qualities will be put to fine use in the office of Minister of Magic. We would also like to extend our congratulations on behalf of ourselves and our entire team to all of the candidates and their campaign teams for a job well done.

I would also like to announce that I will be founding a new department within the Ministry, to be called the Department of Environmentalism. I plan on dedicating this department to educating the public about important matters such as saving endangered Wrackspurts and Freshwater Plimpies. I also hope to continue my parchment recycling campaign and I hope to host retreats in which witches and wizards will have the opportunity to experience nature first hand. We will of course be very careful to avoid Nargle attacks while retreating.

Dobby would also like me to announce that he has accepted a position in the Department of Control and Regulation of Magical Creatures, where he hopes to work on reforming the department into one that views all magical beings as equals.

When did Luna do anything the way everyone else does it? She's in her own world, that's part of her charm. But methinks this borders on the illegal, no? Or, at least, unauthorized? :hmm:

ETA - Another explanation occurs to me. Luna hasn't realized the election is over, that she's not campaigning and doesn't have to state her platform and plans any more. :rotfl:

Perhaps this is the answer! Or perhaps she merely means that she has put together this proposal to bring to the new co-ministers and merely worded it to make it appear that it was accomplished. Of course, Luna does have a lot of self-confidence, so perhaps she just assumed Hermione and Neville would agree that it was a great idea. And of course, I'm sure they will find her Environmental department to be a great idea (although I haven't spoken with them about it), but the Dept. for the Care and Regulation of Magical Creatures has already been revamped under Hermione's watch, so we'll have to speak with Dobby and see what he can add to this new dept. But I'm sure we'll find him a place.

That sounds like a fabulous idea for perserving the environment! I hope you will get lots of support for your ideas for this department!

Dobby would also like me to announce that he has accepted a position in the Department of Control and Regulation of Magical Creatures, where he hopes to work on reforming the department into one that views all magical beings as equals.

but the Dept. for the Care and Regulation of Magical Creatures has already been revamped under Hermione's watch, so we'll have to speak with Dobby and see what he can add to this new dept. But I'm sure we'll find him a place.

Hermione has indeed done a huge amount of work in the Department of Care and Regulation of Magical Creatures. Perhaps Dobby may feel it would be beneficial to have magical beings within the Department, as they may be able to add new perspectives and a unique insight. :)

Excuse my question, but did I miss something? Have Co-Ministers Hermione and Neville been creating new departments and appointing people to new posts? Do we have a list of new cabinet members and administrative departments somewhere that I didn't see?

My perception was that Luna was being gracious and graceful in defeat, and that she and Dobby had accepted other positions in the Ministry where they could be useful and make a difference to society. :)

Highly irregular, but so typically Luna! :lol:Highly irregular indeed. All I learned in Political Studies is going out the window. If the team that came in third to last can take upon itself the power to create departments and appoint posts without referring to the Ministers-Elect, what was the point of holding elections at all? All teams could create any departments and appoint any heads they want. Tsk, tsk.

SIP has hit the nail on the head. If neither Neville nor Hermione were aware of this, it is because the people below them made the decisions. Sometimes these little things do slip beneath the cracks, and it's no use getting sour about not knowing. Especially since no harm was done. :)

I'm glad I understood where Luna was coming from. :)

This sort of reminds me of John McCain during the U.S. election. He said the first thing he would do to fix the Financial crisis was to fire one of the top Financial guys. But it turned out he didn't have the power to hire or dismiss just anyone as President.

Not everyone in government is a political appointee.

And I'm sure he'll do a wonderful job. This would be perfect because it's following procedure.

I have no objection whatsoever with the new department or the new post, it was simply that the way Luna just seemed to do things herself seemed a bit odd, that's all.

Or, it could be a Department that has sprung up, because Luna may have talked to Kingsley about it. Before he retired I mean. :D

Both propositions are assuming a lot, I feel. Don't mistake me, I'm all for the end result. But there are some form to follow and it just looked like they were disregarded, which creates a dangerous precedent. What's to keep the other candidates from coming out with statements appointing themselves to high posts in the new administration without even consulting the Co-Ministers Elect?

My perception was that Luna was being gracious and graceful in defeat, and that she and Dobby had accepted other positions in the Ministry where they could be useful and make a difference to society. :)
That's all to the good, but we have no indication that an offer was made for a new department and a new position. Members of the Hermione/Neville team seemed to know nothing about it, which is kind of worrisome.

Not everyone in government is a political appointee.
True, but the establishment of a new department, and the appointment of a high official in a dept or service are political decisions.

Edited to Add: All governments are bureacracies for a reason. The Minister of Magic doesn't have time to sit around reading job applications for Under-Minister of Pumpkin Measurements.
No offense, but it seems to me a Department on the Environment and a post - certainly a high-ranking one - in the Department of Control and Regulation of Magical Creatures is hardly on a par with "pumpkin measurements".

OK, enough of this I guess. Please forgive me, I'm just a stickler for following certain rules, especiallly in something as important as a post or dept at the Ministry. I realize this is just a game, and the elections were, thankfully, nothing like the ones in real life. But that confident statement of Luna's took me aback, coming out of the blue as it did, and I thought MagicMuggle's question was justified.

Let's just drop it.

Though it would be good if Hermione and Neville gave us a list of their top-ranking staff - the way Obama already let us know who would be White House Chief of Staff and Security Advisor. :)

It's not a matter of "getting sour", which nobody is, it's a matter of following the rules and procedures. Creating a department or appointing someone to a high post is a decision taken at the highest executive level, not like some little decision about rubber bands or paper clips. If every candidate did the same thing, we'd have a score of new departments with the top executives would know nothing about. I understand it's all in fun, but certain rules still have to be followed, every new big department or leadership post approved by the Co-Ministers. The announcement should come from them or their spokespersons. Sorry, I guess this is my political and administrative studies speaking here. This is just my opinion but the way Luna did it is the way to chaos. Next we'll have Voldemort appointing himself Head of the Auror Dept with Lucius in charge of law enforcement. Mind you, the Voldemort shown during the campaign, along with Lucius, would be a hoot! Have your Protego spells ready and be prepared to duck Cruciatus curses flying around! If we want to transpose it to Real Life elections, it would be like if McCain decided, all on his own, to create a new Department and give a post in the new administration to Sarah Palin. How would the Democrats, and the country, react? :hmm:

Well, Sarah Palin was already in the administration as VP! :) And I reacted by voting for Obama, but that's just me.

I think the election is over, and Luna was just politely excusing herself to go off and do other things.

Maybe the Hermione Administration should have Luna and Dobby arrested?

*just kidding* :) It's just an imaginary game, and Luna imagined a new job for herself. I'm sure she can find something else worthwhile to do as a government "outsider." Look at Al Gore - he won the Nobel Prize!

In all honesty, this is a game about a fake government, and the game also happens to be over. The Luna team envisioned that Luna and Dobby would not wallow in misery after losing elections, but would instead move on to other meaningful assignments. The logistics don't really matter.

This was supposed to be a cute last post of Luna's in regard to the elections. I'm shocked that people would get so offended about it, as it doesn't break any rules, and is just meant to be part of the fun of the game we've been playing.

We seem to attract controversy no matter what we do. :) In an effort to end this controversy, we'd like to make a couple of announcements:

First, I'd like to announce that Mr. Shacklebolt is still the Minister or Magic. He will remain in his current position until the end of the year. Neville and I will take up our newly elected office with the beginning of the new year. Appropriate, don't you think?

We'd also like to announce that we have decided to run our new administration according to multi-partisan principles. All candidates have shown themselves as extremely worthy of sharing a role in government. Therefore, we have decided to offer posts to all candidates who stood for office and truly hope they will agree to help us. I'll let Neville give the details.

Positions are, of course, open to negotiation (within reasonable limits ;) ). I want to emphasize that Hermione and I worked together to come up with this list and feel it is very appropriate for the individual candidates' unique talents, skills and abilities:

Snape - (w/Molly) Work on Community-based initiatives
Molly - (w/Snape) Work on Community-bases initiatives
Luna - Environmental Dept. (with special emphasis on interplanetary cooperation)
Cedric - (w/ Luna) Environmental Dept
Dobby - Magical Creature Dept (Emancipated elf division)
Harry - Head of Aurors Dept
George - Auror supply (providing top quality WWW protection products)
Bill - Magical Creature Dept (Liaison w/ werewolves, vampires, etc.)
Sirius - Health Dept
Arthur - Head of Muggle Relations
Flitwick - Education Dept
Voldemort - MoM Entertainment Officer http://www.council-of-elrond.com/forums/images/smilies/jester.gif
Lucius - Stopping Head Entertainment Officer from using unforgivables

And last but certainly not least:
Ron - Either: Interior Environmentals (office weather division ;))

Dear Ms Lovegood,

Molly, my campaign team and I, are very pleased to hear you now have a position within the Environmental Department. We are both impressed with your plans to preserve the environment and educate people about the natural world that surrounds us.

Molly and myself have recently been granted a Department concerning Community-based initiatives. We would very much like to work alongside you in developing community activities, to encourage learning and understanding in both children and adults to ensure the protection of the environment for themselves and future generations.

During our campaigning, we talked extensively with knowledgeable conservationists who spent time explaining about the magical creatures and plant species that they care for. These specialists if contacted, may agree to give talks and attend nature trips.

We look forward to hearing back from you, with any ideas you may have.

Yours sincerely,

Thank you, Assistants to the Co-Ministers. Does that mean that Cedric will be Head of Int'l Sports Dpt? We need to know to work on a siggie. :D

Of course!
Thank you, Den_muggle. Here's the new siggie then. Ta Da!

Now *nudge, nudge*, *makes puppy dog eyes at Jessica* if only I could be Assistant to Cedric Diggory in my UT. :sigh:
