This is my third attempt at a fan-fiction and my two others failed miserably. This fan-fic will be in Kingsley Shacklebolt's point of view, during the time of DH. I chose the title Royal as that is his name on Potterwatch. This title is definitely pending. I know the fan-fic isn't exactly canon as Kingsley was guarding the Muggle Prime Minister, but that would certainly be something boring to write. I may waver points of views, but the majority will be Kingsley's. Enjoy
Chapter 1: A Change in Command –
Rain pelted the window of an office where a large man sat writing on a piece of parchment. Actually, it wasn’t rain at all; in fact the office was miles below ground. Kingsley Shacklebolt sat upright. He had just finished writing a lengthy statement to the Minister for Magic. Kingsley was a tall, black wizard who wore robes of deep purple. He was bald and had a large hoop earring of gold. Kingsley walked out of his office and into a large corridor. The corridor was lit with magnificent silver torches and the walls were splattered with news paper clippings. One clipping in particular stood out as Kingsley walked down the corridor: Bones Found Dead read the title. Kingsley shuddered. It had been over a year since his good friend and co-worker Amelia Bones, had been murdered. Kingsley walked over to the lift which took him up to Level One. Kingsley was the Head of the Auror Office which was located on the second level. As he walked out into yet another magnificent corridor he spotted a slightly balding wizard with red hair.
“How’s it going Arthur?” boomed Kingsley’s slow, deep voice.
“Not bad Kingsley,” Arthur replied.
Arthur Weasley was the head of the Office for the Detection and Confiscation of Counterfeit Defensive Spells and Protective Objects. He was also a close personal friend of Kingsley’s. The last time Kingsley had seen Arthur was a few weeks ago. Arthur and Kingsley, along with Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody, Bill Weasley, Remus Lupin, Nymphadora Tonks, and Rubeus Hagrid had helped transport Harry Potter from his home at Privet Drive, to Arthur’s house called The Burrow. There were actually seven Harry Potters that night as Ron, Fred, and George Weasley, Hermione Granger, Mundungus Fletcher, and Fleur Delacour had all taken polyjuice potion to look like Harry. Each protector’s job was to get one of the seven “Harrys” to the Burrow safely. Kingsley took Hermione to his own house on a thestral. While flying they were attacked by five Death Eaters whom Kingsley had fought off. After arriving at his house, Kingsley and Hermione took a portkey to The Burrow. While Harry arrived safely, Moody had been killed in the fight and George Weasley had lost an ear. Moody had been a great mentor to Kingsley and one of the most respected Aurors ever. The loss of Moody hit Kingsley hard.
“I’ve got to head back home now,” continued Arthur, “Bill and Fleur’s wedding is in a few hours and Molly and I have to make some preparations. Any chance you’ll be coming out?”
“Hmm….perhaps,” Kingsley answered, “I’m fairly busy at the moment. I’ve got a meeting with the Minister right now and after that I’ve got to head over to Azkaban. If I have time, I’ll certainly try to be there.”
With the mention of Azkaban, Arthur’s eyes widened. “Well, I’ve got to be off,” Arthur replied and he walked away.
Kingsley wondered what Arthur had been doing on the first floor. Arthur was normally up on second floor, so Kingsley found it a bit odd to find him down here. On his way to the Minister’s office Kingsley passed young Percy Weasley. Percy was Arthur’s third eldest song. He wore horn-rimmed glasses and looked rather flustered at the moment. Percy gave Kingsley a curt nod and continued down the hall. Kingsley now guessed that Arthur had been down here asking Percy if he’d be attending the wedding. Percy was the Junior Assistant to the Minister and had been on bitter terms with the rest of his family for over a year now.
Kingsley thought nothing more of the subject as he approached the Minister’s door. He knocked once loudly and waited until the door was open. A man with a lion-like appearance smiled at him. Rufus Scrimgeour was the current Minister for Magic, succeeding former Minister Cornelius Fudge. Rufus had always been on good terms with Kingsley, and they both enjoyed each others enthusiasm. Rufus after all had been the Head of the Auror Office before Kingsley. But lately, Kingsley had begun to think that he had lost his touch. Scrimgeour had been arresting many innocent people (Stan Shunpike for instance) and Kingsley wasn’t too pleased with the way he was acting.
“Finished the report already?” chuckled Scrimgeour. He ran his fingers through his tawny mane-like hair which was almost overrun with grey streaks. Scrimgeour had wide bushy eyebrows which partially covered his yellow-eyes and wire-rim glasses. He wore long black lobes and he sat down lazily in a comfortable looking arm-chair. The office which he sat in had a high ceiling and walls of painted gold. There was a large black M painted within the gold and in the corner of the room was a great wooden desk stacked high with papers.
“Yes Minister,” Kingsley’s deep voice replied, “but unfortunately, the findings were unsuccessful. I’ve had no luck locating either Dolohov or Mulciber following there vicious murder of 6 muggles.”
“Hmmm,” sighed Scrimgeour, “I didn’t exactly except them to just sit around. Any news on Yaxley?”
“He’s been spotted at the Malfoy’s sir, as well as the entrance to the Ministry.”
“Keep an eye on him Kingsley. I don’t like all these Death Eaters out on the loose,” said Scrimgeour, “especially so close to the Ministry,” he added.
“Yes sir. I’ve got to head over to Azkaban now but I’ll keep an eye out for Yaxley when I’ve returned.”
“Why on earth are you going there?” wondered Scrimgeour with a slight look of panic etched on his face.
“Well, after that last break-out,” began Kingsley, “the Auror’s have decided to boost up security. I’ve got to go over there and make sure everything’s okay.”
“You get on that then Kingsley. I’ll read up on your report.”
“Good day Minister,” said Kingsley and he left the office.
Kingsley went back to the lift and head down to Level 9, the Atrium. The Atrium was full of bustling wizards most of whom waved to Kingsley. Kingsley ignored them and headed to one of the numerous fireplaces. This fireplace had a rope surrounding it and sign that read in marvelous gold ink: No admittance unless given permission by the Head of the Auror Office. Kingsley smiled and stepped over the rope and into the fireplace. He grabbed some Floo Powder out of a small basket. He threw down the powder and shouted, “Azkaban”. Kingsley was engulfed by fire and when the fire disappeared he walked out into a small, dark room.
The walls of the room were made out of thick stone and dim candles allowed for only a tiny bit of light. Kingsley walked through the room and spotted a large door. This door looked like it belonged in a palace, not a run-down shack. It was made of steel and painted black. Kingsley could see many steel re-enforcements and to him it looked like it would take a giant to knock it over. Kingsley grabbed a large handle and pulled on the door. With a loud creaking sound the door opened and Kingsley was hit with bright light. Kingsley walked out of the room in to the light.
“Oi, Kingsley!” said a man’s voice.
Kingsley spun around and saw his friend John Dawlish. Dawlish was a bulky wizard with short brown hair. He was dressed in robes of black and was wearing a brown coat.
“How’s it going Dawlish,” asked Kingsley.
“Not too good I’m afraid. It seems that we’ve had yet another breakout; only a minor one this time. The Death Eater Jugson has escaped.” Dawlish explained.
Kingsley looked furious. “Didn’t I tell you to double security on Jugson?” he boomed.
“Well…yes you did sir. I asked Leben to guard him while I went back to the Ministry and when I returned, both Jugson and Leben were gone.”
Kingsley looked at his pocked watch. He was certainly going to miss Bill and Fleur’s wedding now.
“What time was this Dawlish?”
“Only about 30 minutes ago, before I left I heard Jugson and Leben talking but I didn’t think much about it. Thicknesse came in about an hour ago and spoke to both of them.”
Kingsley started to shake. Thicknesse, a ministry worker, had been believed to be under the Imperius Curse. Kingsley thought hard. What if Thicknesse, Jugson, and Leben were all working together?
“I’ve got to get back to the Ministry now,” spoke Kingsley and without saying anything else he ran back to the fire, yelled “Ministry of Magic” and was once again engulfed with flames.
This time Kingsley was in a hurry and ran through the crowded Atrium knocking a few people over as he went by. Kingsley went over to the lift and headed up to the first level. When the lift finally arrived he ran out and into the corridor. Kingsley strained his eyes and looked down to the far end. To his great demise, Kingsley saw a group of people outside the Minister’s door. Kingsley spotted Yaxley and Jugson and he heard shouts.
“Reducto!” yelled Yaxley. The door of the Minister’s office was blasted out of the way. Kingsley considered going and helping Scrimgeour, but he decided as they’d be out numbered ten to two, it was wise to get help.
“Rufus,” smiled Thicknesse, “there’s going to be a little change in command.”
“No..no..please..no,” moaned Scrimgeour.
Yaxley turned and pointed his wand at the Minister.
“Avada Kedavra”
There was a blinding flash of green light and a Scrimgeour’s body crumpled to the floor. Kingsley suddenly realized that his friends were in danger. The Ministry had put the Burrow under special protection so it couldn’t be attacked. Now that the Ministry was under control of the Death Eaters the protection was useless.
Kingsley got back into the lift and went down to his office.
“Expecto Patronum,” he yelled and a lynx burst out of his wand.
Moments later the lynx had interrupted a day of celebration at the Burrow. The lynx turned toward the guests and in Kingsley’s slow, deep voice it spoke.
“The Ministry has fallen. Scrimgeour is dead. They are coming.”

I hope you liked the first chapter. This will probably the average chapter length. I'll probably try to post every Sunday. The Azkaban scene was to use up some time, and develop a bit of a storyline.
