Oi! Oi! Oi! Oi!

Any people here into Oi! music? It's basically skinhead punk, though not all oi! musicians are skinheads it has come to be more or less the "official" music of modern skinhead culture.

It's generally less fast than hardcore or anarcho-punk, often with more rock'n'roll and ska influences, and choruses that are easy to sing along in a drunken state. It's really quite fun if you can find the right bands. Lyrical topics include beer, boots, the police, working-class life, violence on the streets, and social and political themes.

Not by far all skinheads are racist, my best friend is a skin and we're both on the far left of the political spectrum. Consequently all my favourite bands are apolitical, antifascist or leftist. And usually German.

Some great bands:

Broilers
Volxsturm
4 Promille
Loikaemie
SpringToifel
Brigada Flores Magon
Cock Sparrer
The Business
Street Troopers

I also love the Class Pride World Wide compilations from Insurgence Records, featuring tonnes of antifascist, socialist and anarchist oi!

So what are your thoughts on this controversial genre?
