This is the working title of a new dance competition from Nigel Lythgoe and Simon Fuller to be aired on NBC. I haven't seen a start date yet, but I'll keep everyone posted.

Here's the link to the article.

The new name of the show is Superstars of Dance and it starts Sunday night at 9pm (2 hours) and then Mondays at 8pm on NBC.

I've watched some of the vids on the NBC site and it looks good. The Chinese team looks awesome. Fingerstands?

I watched last night. I must say, not as good as Dancing with the Stars, but then again, it's a different sort of dance competition (and my family loves Dancing with the Stars!) It was enjoyable to see dancing from different parts of the world, and that's the main reason I watched. My favorite countries so far are Ireland, India, and China. I think the judges scored too low on the Indian duet - I thought they were really cool. I also think the judges scored way too high on the Russian duet. My mom didn't really think it looked like ballroom, and in my opinion, I've seen better ballroom on the first week of Dancing with the Stars. The Chinese monks were fierce! Goodness, that was cool.
Anyway, I am going to watch tonight, although I don't agree with most of the judging, it is fun to experience different cultures through watching dance. It's like the american judge said, we do seem to like our dance shows!

I watched it last night. My dad really wanted to see the Chinese Monks. I'll agree with the American judge as I love watching dance shows. I don't really agree with the judges, but I like watching all the different styles of dance, so it's cool.

The Chinese Monks were fantastic. I loved the two young boys they showcased, too. I also loved the Irish group and the American Dance Crew.

The Russian duo, Anya and Pasha, are wonderful dancers, but they didn't do their usual Latin Ballroom. Here's a good look at what they can do.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1nDn04GsoI

For some reason, my TV screen kept going pink ... a change from the dreaded blue screen ... and I missed some dances.

My two favorites last night were the Australian contemporary dancer and the dance crew from the U.S.

I'm trying to ignore the judging and just enjoy the dancing. I think the reason they are scoring so low is there's not a lot of actual dancing going on. Most of what we're seeing is just glitz and lifts; more what you would see in something like Cirque du Soleil.

That one couple where she was wearing a hipster and backless halter and he was shirtless ... that should have been a waltz. There were no waltz steps that I could see and they certainly weren't dressed for it anyway.

With all that, I'm enjoying the show and will be watching next Monday.

i watched the first episode and there definitely some good dancers, and then some that were not as good. I really liked the monks, and the irish dancing was good too. There was also some stuff in there that i found interesting to watch. I have to say i was disappointed in the bollywood routine, its normally very high energy and tons of fun to watch but those girls seemed to be lacking something.

And anyone notice that nigel lythgoe seems to have had some serious influence on which dancers were chosen? Cough cough, anya, pasha, and robert cough cough (all seen previously in so you think you can dance)

And i dont think i like michael flatly as a host, I think he should have stuck to the irish dancing!

I was disappointed in the Bollywood, too. Katee and Joshua's Bollywood is a hard act to follow.

I was disappointed that Anya and Pasha are dancing for Russia. I was disappointed in their low scores, too. The dance they did was a sort of tango with some Russian influence (that's the best I can describe it).

And i dont think i like michael flatly as a host, I think he should have stuck to the irish dancing!

His name suits him. His voice is totally flat. He nearly puts me to sleep.

Thats exactly what i was thinking, they did an amazing job, and this act was just kinda blah.

haha yep my thoughts exactly.

Nothing like the dull and boring... "Lets take a look at the overall scores, oh yep that puts China in first place" he could atleast sound surprised when he says it sheesh.

I watched Monday night with the same feelings as Sunday night. It's fun to see the different styles of dance. My mom was annoyed, and she brought up a good point - the judges seem to comment on lots of the dances not having enough dance. So, who picked these competitors anyway, and why did they pick acts with more weapon twirling and glitz and glam than actual dance? Not to say that I didn't like the weapon "dancing" that the Chinese monk did the second night. And although there was little dancing, I was really impressed with the Chinese duet, with the girl on pointe on the man's shoulder. I was like this: :wow: My overall favorites are still the Irish, they are so fun to watch in whatever dancing they do.
I try not to pay too much attention to the judges either. Especially the judges for Argentina and South Africa.
And I like Michael Flatley! Although I can see why people wouldn't. I think he just needs more hosting practice.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I also have to say that some of those groups look like they only rehearsed for about an hour before the show.

My screen "pinked" out for both of those. At least I saw the Chinese group dance.

My overall favorites are still the Irish, they are so fun to watch in whatever dancing they do.

They stand a good chance of winning this. The Irish soloist may be praised as the greatest Irish dancer, but I think Jeanne Dunne is far superior. Unfortunately, she's from New York and not Ireland.

Groovaloo is phenomenal. Next week, a showdown between them and the Shao Lin Monks. That will be awesome.

I was sorry to see the Australian soloist go. He is very good. The Australian group was also good, but somewhat repetitive. With Jason Gilkison as the choreographer, I expected something better.

I still don't like the Argentinian Tango dancers. They just don't connect. They might try looking at each other. I liked the Irish couple better.

I hope Pasha and Anya are on next week and I hope they do a Latin dance. They didn't get eliminated, did they? My screen didn't pink out this week, but it did several times last Sunday and Monday. I don't know what I missed.

I agree Groovaloo was down right amazing.

As for the judges, I think there's several problems, one they dont understand all the different styles of dance they are seeing (i know i often am struggling with it and i took dance classes for most of my life), and two if you notice they seem to mostly have already picked out their favorites.

And honestly i was a bit shocked when they picked robert moreno as the winner of the 3 way tie. I think he's good but i think his problem is he is always doing the same thing over and over again, and maybe its just cause ive seen him perform several times over the course of this past year. I have to say though after last night i actually saw a few unique things from him, about time.

So I still don't agree with most of the judges. But otherwise the show was enjoyable. I like the Groovaloos, but I think they did better last week than last night. It was still fun to watch, though. I did think the Zulu guys had a more interesting performance last night than last week. As for the Argentinian couple, I thought their dance was boring:td: I'm sure it was a fine tango, but while I was watching it, I was thinking "come on, get to the good stuff." Plus, I don't believe that they should have scored higher than the other couples:no: The Irish couple was so fun to watch, and the South African couple was amazing! When he spun her around in the air holding onto her legs!:wow: Holy moly!

I don't think I understand this show. The countries can switch entrants in mid-competition?

The Irish changed their soloist, the Russians changed their duo (I want Pasha and Anya back). There were two Australian soloists and two Indian soloists. I'm confused.

The Russian duo put on quite a show but scored very low. The Argentinian soloist was at least told by one of the judges that there is more to dancing than shaking your assets.

All I know for sure at this point is the Irish are out.

The dance-off between ShaoLin and Groovaloo was worth watching, but it was pre-recorded and I think there was something wrong with the film. It kept flickering.

Confusion or not, there is still some good dancing and I'll continue to watch.

I'm so mad that the Irish are gone! I LOVED the Irish. :argh: I don't understand how they can take out an entire country when they were all so good and fun to watch, and I definately think they were better then some of the people who are still in the competition.
I wonder what was bugging the South African judge? Not like he's the nicest guy normally, but a 5 and a 3?
I'm sad to see the Indian group go, I really liked them. I'm glad they still have one of their soloists left. In general, I think the Indian dances (and the Irish!) are the most fun, and the clothes are beautiful!
The showdown was pretty lame.:td: I wonder if it was too long to show it as it actually happened? And I think the film was supposed to look flickery.
Argentinian soloist: lots of shaking:huh:
The monks were cool, and they certainly are amazing to watch, although I still don't know if a dance competition is right for them.

I am so mad that the Irish are gone. I absolutely loved them. I remember in the first round to me, they stole the entire competition. I loved it. It was so cultural you could really like see the culture in their dancing.

Now the Argentina chick, she only got a 10 because the judges were getting way too excited seeing her practically stark naked shaking everything that bounced and jiggled. I wish she would have gone and the Irish would be in her place -.-:grumble:

For one horrifying moment, I thought she was going to do a pole dance. (shudder) Did you see that one lady in the audience that covered her son's eyes?

Remember the SYTYCD alums danced at the end of last season? Looks like Ivan taped them messing around before the show. You can tell by the way they are dressed. I'll watch Benji, Dmitry and Anya dancing any way I can get them, even when they are kidding around.

I think it was after that they trashed the Russian couple. They were very innovative and did actual dancing, so it's no wonder they scored low. :grumble:

Did any of you watch Step It Up and Dance? Horrible show (worse than this), but they did some actual dancing in between the "let's-trash-each-other" reality show nonsense. Anyway, the winner, Cody Green, is in the Broadway revival of West Side Story. He plays Riff. Cody is really a great dancer and I'll bet being on that show got him noticed.

I guess since Nigel and Mary danced on the SYTYCD finale, Michael Flatley had to strut his stuff, too.

I was disappointed in the winners.

The Russian girl won for the singles. She's good, but she only dances for about 45 seconds. India took second and U.S. third.

Argentina won for the duos. I think Australia outdanced them all the way.

Groovaloo took the group dance and they deserved it. Muraine was part of it. Australia did almost the same dance they did last time, with a couple making-out in the background. What a load of owl pellets that was.

The U.S. took the whole competition. I think Groovaloo put them over the top.

The scoring for last night's finale was not how I wanted it to turn out. However, it was nice not to have to sit through the judges talking nonsense and giving low scores to the good dancers!

How the judges ranked the dancers:
Solo: 1- Russia
2- India
3- U.S.
Duet: 1- Argentina
2- South Africa
3- Australia
Group: 1- U.S.
2- China
3- Australia

How I ranked the dancers:
Solo: 1- India
2- U.S.
3- Russia
Duet: 1- Australia
2- Argentina
3- South Africa
Group: 1- U.S.
2- Australia
3- China

It sounds like they're doing another season. I am so far undecided if I will watch or not... maybe if they got some new/better judges.

I totally agree with your rankings. I really liked the Indian soloist. The Russian soloist was good, but she did very, very short dances.

It sounds like they're doing another season. I am so far undecided if I will watch or not... maybe if they got some new/better judges.

They also need better dancers. The groups performed as if they first got together the day of the show and rehearsed for a couple of hours. The duets were more about tricks than dancing.

It's the first year. I'll give them a chance to improve next year. In the meantime, we have DWTS and SYTYCD.

Speaking of DWTS, I just read that Karina and Maksim got engaged over New Year's. Talk about a beautiful couple ...
