Kevin January 25th, 2009, 5:46 pm Just a sample of what Oxford is like from my perspective.
Photographs taken in the last couple of weeks.

Klio January 25th, 2009, 11:31 pm Ohhhh... lovely!
I LOVE Oxford... I hope you don't mind if I post a few pictures I took last year in April when it snowed one Sunday morning.....

Merton College

That's the centre, with the Radcliffe Camera (part of the Bodleian library), and St Mary's Church.
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92/Elwen2/DSCN7463.jpg
I love that you can get such a 'rural' view right in the city centre of Oxford! That's Magdalen College tower and a bit of Merton's back buildings looking like an English village scene :D
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92/Elwen2/DSCN7493A.jpg
This is a mischievous picture I am rather proud of - Oxford skyline from New College cloisters.... :D
gipro2003 January 26th, 2009, 12:49 am Thanks for sharing those Klio! They are gorgeous. Oxford is so beautiful, and I especially love the architecture!
Klio January 26th, 2009, 10:15 pm You bet..... I should really dig up a few of my old photographs and post them... I came to Oxford years ago and stayed for years, well beyond the time it took to get my degree (I still stay there as often as I can), and I shot most of my pictures with an old film-based camera.... I guess I'll just have to go and re-do a few of those.......
Kevin - have you ever taken pictures from the top of St Mary's? I just realise that I seem to have taken people there quite often (I rather like doing Oxford tours for visiting friends), but I never seem to have taken pictures myself! That's rather stupid..... Well, I guess there'll be a next time :D
lilyrose January 27th, 2009, 11:28 am Great photos Kevin and Klio:tu:
I wish I was there! It is such a beautiful place:) I especially love the shot of Merton College:p
Klio January 27th, 2009, 6:58 pm Liking Merton is always a good idea.
:)
Kevin January 29th, 2009, 8:50 pm Kevin - have you ever taken pictures from the top of St Mary's? I just realise that I seem to have taken people there quite often (I rather like doing Oxford tours for visiting friends), but I never seem to have taken pictures myself! That's rather stupid..... Well, I guess there'll be a next time :D
I hope to do so, at some point in the Spring. Before Oxford gets clogged up with tourists. I love making a twit out of myself showing people around Oxford, it's just a pity rusty and co didn't have much time to spend in Oxford back in 2007. Anyway i made the most of today's ok weather. Snow on sunday and Monday apparently. I may venture out a bit further if oxford gets a light dusting of snow. Depending on how cold it is.

Klio January 30th, 2009, 1:43 am Ohhh! There will be snow? I believe it when I see it! I lived in Oxford full time for 8 1/2 years and never managed to be there for snow that stayed on the ground for long enough for good pictures! And finally. last year I got lucky - although I am just a part-time Oxonian these days.
Well, if I get lucky that might just get me good pictures for my Christmas cards for next year... I used a few of my snow pictures from last April this Christmas, and I think they turned out rather nice. :)
I really like the view of ChCh from the gate to the meadow - it's not easy to take a good picture of the St Aldate's side of ChCh and make it look good, because St Aldate's is so busy.
I also love the picture of the archway. I am trying to guess where this is, but I am a bit stumped by it. Nuffield?
And isn't St George's Tower great? I love Anglo-Saxon architecture. :) It's pretty special. :) Its best side is from St Thomas's street, by the way. :)
Here two more of last year's snow pictures....
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92/Elwen2/ChCh-small.jpg
That's the 'easy' side of Christ Church. It's so nice, you can't gt it wrong as long as you manage to hold the camera straight. Keven's other perspective is much more a matter of skill. :D
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92/Elwen2/high-street-small.jpg
and here is a favourite bit of the High Street. I love that tree. It just makes the picture so much better! :)
Kevin January 30th, 2009, 7:28 pm I remember that it snowed quite awesomely back in the 1980's when i was but a small boy. I remember getting lost in a snow drift lol
As for the St Aldates shot, that was pretty easy really. I picked the gates with the tom tower in the background as the focus of the image and then got a little bit of the street into it. That took me less than 2 minutes to compose and shoot. It helps if you have a visual idea of what you want beforehand, then it's a bit easier creating it with a camera.
I love the trees in Oxford, they always seem to be in the right place when it comes to the College buildings i.e.

Klio January 30th, 2009, 11:47 pm Ohhh! The Wednesday market! :)
I always enjoy that - the veg stalls are wonderful. :D And I really like that picture. very evocative. :)
Kevin February 2nd, 2009, 1:45 pm Thanks. Snow was pretty good, though as usual not a lot of it.

Klio February 2nd, 2009, 4:52 pm Nice one.... I found myself having to spend as much time as I can in the library today - but it's really been rather nice .... snow in Oxford is SO rare!
I guess I'll have to go out to take a few pictures tomorrow....:)
Lovely pictures so far - can't wait to see what else you managed to capture. :)
lilyrose February 3rd, 2009, 5:26 am I love all the pics you've posted. Especially the ones with snow covered trees and roads:tu:
Looking forward to more:)
gipro2003 February 3rd, 2009, 3:33 pm Oxford looks gorgeous covered in snow!!
Klio February 3rd, 2009, 11:42 pm Well, it's no longer entirely covered in snow, but here are a few more views....
I am afraid I always find a reason to take pictures of Oxford  - as does Kevin, it seems. :)
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92/Elwen2/Broad-street.jpg
Broad Street - the older bits of the actual town (as opposed to the part of the city which has been taken over by the colleges).
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92/Elwen2/Blackwells.jpg
My favourite bookshop - and the quaint little White Horse pub, almost overwhelmed by the power of Blackwells!. :)
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92/Elwen2/statue.jpg
The sky over Oxford is sometimes full of various people and other creatures! You just have to remember to look up!
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92/Elwen2/StMary-Magdalen.jpg
St Mary Magdalen graveyard - a kind of tranquil island right in the centre - with traffic milling around it . :)
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92/Elwen2/flowers2.jpg
I love it, because every year it has the very first flowers in all of Oxford - sometimes in the first week of January!
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92/Elwen2/LRR-view.jpg
The view from one of the places where I work quite often. I love it how those grand buildings are just there all around you, as if it were the most natural thing in the world..... that's the Radcliffe Camera outside that window. :)
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92/Elwen2/SJStreet.jpg
And here's a view towards North Oxford, from another place where I tend to work almost every time I am around.... I like the way the sky looks in this.... :)
Kevin February 7th, 2009, 8:46 am Oxford is very alluring and pretty.... You can't help but take photographs of it...

Klio February 7th, 2009, 11:13 am Oh great... more snow! :)
great pictures..... the one I love best is that of the random people walking around on the meadow..... it reminds of some of those Dutch winter paintings. :)

Klio February 7th, 2009, 7:14 pm Very pretty.... but was this picture really taken just last week? It's been a while that I have seen so many cars parked outside Brasenose...
