I don't know what my first movie was, but I thought I would start a thread on the matter: What was the first movie you saw, either in a theater or at home?
Your First MovieIenjoyAcidPops June 6th, 2009, 6:57 pm I don't know what my first movie was, but I thought I would start a thread on the matter: What was the first movie you saw, either in a theater or at home? gertiekeddle June 6th, 2009, 7:46 pm First movie in the 'real' theatre was E.T., I remember that pretty good because it was such a huge event for so many small kids in my age back then who actually were a bit too young for cinema still. My older sister was allowed to go alone, I was joined by my parents. First movie in theatre without parents was, I think, The Goonies. I probably watched Disney movies in smaller theatres like included in shopping centers before and I'm also quite sure I was allowed to watch films on TV very early. RemusPotter June 6th, 2009, 8:10 pm The first movie I saw in the cinema was Jurassic Park. I was 3 or 4 years old. BelleSnowyOwl June 6th, 2009, 8:13 pm The first movie I have memory of seeing in the theatre was Matilda. I was 6 and it was kind of scary. GinnyPotter15 June 6th, 2009, 8:14 pm Well when I was little my parents were incredibly strict so I wasn't allowed to watch tv (might explain my incredible urge to read even now still) but in the supermarket my mom used to take me too to go grocery shopping, they had a little tv and chairs around it for the parents to dump their kids while they were shopping. I think this is where I first watched tv ever, and i'm not completely sure but I think it was a Donald Duck film that I watched. lcbaseball22 June 7th, 2009, 9:16 am Do you remember what your first movie was? Perhaps even the first movie you saw in a theater? Or if not remember, do you know what it was? Myself, I don't. Nor my parents (some help they are). Nope, but I remember the first PG-13 film I saw...it was Dante's Peak and I think I was 12  My parents were quite strict... A lot of my friends had been allowed to watch PG-13 films for years. Hell, some had even seen rated R films by that age. As for my first Rated R film...ironically I can't remember right now  (yeah, you'd think that'd be more memorable wouldn't you?) Mad_Druid June 7th, 2009, 9:40 am The first movie that I remember seeing at the cinema is Snow White. I would have been about four and I remember being scared when the hag came on. Hysteria June 7th, 2009, 10:57 am A friend asked me this last week and I cant remember  My parents don't remember either... great  Probably some animated Disney film though. The first film I ever saw on vhs (back in the day) was Kimba The White Lion :D (oh wait, that's a TV series) Yuna_Leonhart June 7th, 2009, 1:41 pm The first movie I have ever seen on video was Lady And The Tramp, followed by a lot of other Disney movies and the first movie I saw in the cinema was The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Might explain, why I still love Disney so much^^ Puppet_Master June 7th, 2009, 3:23 pm One of the Star Wars, the first trilogy of course, I don´t remember which one but it was definetely a Star Wars movie. And I hated it, I was too young to going to the cinema. Then I saw ET and I truly enjoy it, and I was very young too. I firmly believe parents really does wrong taking small kids to the cinema to watch whatever movie that has fantasy or fiction. Many movies with fantasy or fictional issues are far away from being easy or suitable for kids. Klio June 7th, 2009, 5:23 pm Well, I can't remember TV movies, because, well, that's not all that memorable. I vaguely remember that in primary school they'd pull out a VERY old projector (which may even have been pre-WWII, it was that old) and showed very old fairy tale films. I can't remember whether these weren't even silent films - but they were certainly in the early cinema format. These must have been sirculating through primary schools for decades when I got to see them (late 70's), because my mother remembered them fro the late 1940's!! I lived in this small village, and the cinema in the next town wasn't very good (apart from the fact that for some reason my parent's weren't cinema goers before I talked them into it). So we never went there. The first time I finally did go was when I was 16, and we went to see Gandhi from school (this should have been in c. 1988). The cinema was one of those old ones they still had in the small countryside towns then - long rectangle, wooden chairs, small screen (seriously!!!). I remember that sitting through all of Gandhi on those wooden chairs (and needing the bathroom!) was quite an agony, but I was totally blown away by the images. My first film in a proper theatre was only after I moved on to university - Dances with Wolves on one of the biggest screens in the country at that time. And that completely blew me away! It seems pretty surprising that now, in my late 30's, I have become a cinema addict who sees lots of films when they come out! I guess I have to catch up. ETA: looking at the descriptions above it sounds as if I grew up a few decades before I did. I thought I'd better add dates! OMG - we were awfully behind with films, weren't we? BelleSnowyOwl June 7th, 2009, 5:30 pm I firmly believe parents really does wrong taking small kids to the cinema to watch whatever movie that has fantasy or fiction. Many movies with fantasy or fictional issues are far away from being easy or suitable for kids. Why so? The only "kid" movies out there are fiction...should 5 year old see documentaries instead? ;) Yoana June 7th, 2009, 7:19 pm I think the first film I saw in cinema was Don Juan de Marco with Johnny Depp, but I'm not completely sure. I know I was in love with Johhny Depp for a decade after that film though. Puppet_Master June 8th, 2009, 11:04 pm Why so? The only "kid" movies out there are fiction...should 5 year old see documentaries instead? ;) Actually there are plenty of movies suitable for 5 years old kids that are not documentaries... I said that not all fantasy or sci fi movies are suitable for young children. Unfortunately, many efforts in making a fantasy movie to be more serious and mature is absolutely useless becoz people still think those are movies to take their 5 years old kids to "enjoy" it (aka, the kid completely bored or probably playig all arond the theater) but I really wonder if 5 years old kids can sit for one hour and a half long to watch those movies even LOL I haven´t seen any in all my experience going to the cinema. So spent one ticket price for the kid, and two ticket´s price for the parents who has to spend the whole movie taking care of the babies LOL Well, the world is very big, and also, many kids just love to be scared or completely bored watching a PG film not suitable for them. freelantzer June 11th, 2009, 7:44 am I think the first film I saw in cinema was Don Juan de Marco with Johnny Depp, but I'm not completely sure. I know I was in love with Johhny Depp for a decade after that film though.I  that movie! The believe the first movie I went to in a theater was Star Wars. I don't remember it at all, but my mom tells the story. I guess after seeing the commercial, I begged and begged her to take me to see Star Wars. She finally did, and I fell asleep! houseelf25 June 11th, 2009, 9:42 am According to my mom, the first movie I saw in the theater was "Beauty and the Beast" but I don't remember it at all (I do remember it from watching it after it came out on VHS). The first movie I remember seeing at all is "The Sound of Music," which is still one of my favorites, despite billions of viewings MmeBergerac June 11th, 2009, 2:21 pm The first movie I watched in the theatre was either Batman (Burton's, I mean) or Cyrano de Bergerac, though I'm not sure which. I remember Batman scared me very much (I was 7 or 8), but I loved Cyrano from the first moment (as you can guess from my nick). The story behind my watching Cyrano is quite funny: my mum had gone to a course in Barcelona for some days and my dad was alone with my brother and I. There was only one cinema in my town, movies were showed only for a weekend and my dad wanted very much to see that movie... So, brave of him, he took the children (10 and 7 years old) to watch a movie with no children, no animals apart of war horses and where the characters speak in verse  He was very lucky: my brother was no enthusiastical but behaved quite well, and I got trapped even before the first duel :p PureBloodGirl June 11th, 2009, 9:44 pm  I can't remember the first movie I ever watched. I watch too many to be able to remember that. As for the first movie I ever saw in the theaters, as far as I can remember, it was either Shrek or Spy Kids. Dedalus Diggle June 11th, 2009, 11:12 pm I remember it well, my very first movie, and it was at the theatre - Mary Poppins. On its first run, mind you. I was 5 years old and I loved it so much, my parents got me the soundtrack albim for my 6th birthday, and that was my first record album (it's like a CD, but on a larger disc of plastic, and you use a diamond needle to play it - eh, all you punk kids, get off my lawn!) freelantzer June 12th, 2009, 3:17 am (it's like a CD, but on a larger disc of plastic, and you use a diamond needle to play it - eh, all you punk kids, get off my lawn!):rotfl: gipro2003 June 12th, 2009, 4:03 am I don't remember it, but the first movie I watched in theaters was the Lion King. Ironically, the movie was in English and at the time I only spoke German. (I watched it on the Army base my dad was stationed at.) The first movie I saw in theaters after that (and I only vaguely remember this) was about 5-6 years later and it was Spice World. Honestly, I still don't go to watch movies in theaters that often. Maybe once every 3 months, if even that often. padfoot__lives June 17th, 2009, 3:32 am The first movie I saw EVER was, I think, The Wizard of Oz. I was really young, and it was my favorite movie at the time. First movie in theaters (that I can recall) was The Lion King, and I was probably about.. 4 or 5? But to this day that's my favorite movie. :) First movie on my own was Pokemon: The First Movie. I saw it with my cousin. As for first PG-13, that was Titanic and my older cousins dragged me along with them.. I was like 6 at the time, and I didn't understand any of it.. it also gave me nightmares. Thanks alot, guys. freelantzer June 17th, 2009, 5:34 am The first movie I saw EVER was, I think, The Wizard of Oz I think that was my first ever movie, too. They used to show it on TV once a year when I was a kid and it was a big event in our family. Even my dad would get into it, and we'd sing all the songs and laugh at all the humorous moments. I adore that movie to this day, in great part because of all the fond memories attached to it. Aiwendil June 24th, 2009, 9:48 pm The first movie I can remember seeing in the theater was Batman (Tim Burton,1989). I loved it. PureBloodGirl June 24th, 2009, 9:57 pm When I think about it more, the first movie I can ever remember seeing was Greese when I was like 3 or 4. Blame my old babysitter. DeathlyH June 24th, 2009, 10:16 pm The first movie I remember seeing at all was probably a Disney one- the Lion King, maybe? It came out the same year I was born. The first movie I remember seeing in theaters was Star Wars Episode I: the Phantom Menace. :D leah49 June 28th, 2009, 8:28 pm I can't remember what my first movie in theaters was. It might have been Bambi. I don't really remember that well. Freak of nature June 28th, 2009, 9:21 pm I do remember what was the first movie I saw nor do I remember the first movie I saw in the cinema. But I do remember that I saw my first vampire movie when I was around six or so. And I would like to see it again. It was animated and if I remember correctly it was simply called vampire. I am not sure though. :) mactheknife June 28th, 2009, 9:47 pm My first non-animated movie I remember was probably Never Ending Story! But I was quite young, and that big flying dog used to freak me out ! magic_is_might June 28th, 2009, 11:03 pm My first movie according to my parents, was The Lion King, but I was about a 1 or 2 years old when it came out so I don't remember it. But it still remains one of my favorite movies of all time :) freelantzer June 29th, 2009, 7:38 am My first non-animated movie I remember was probably Never Ending Story! But I was quite young, and that big flying dog used to freak me out !Falcore! I loved that movie when I was a kid. My friend in high school had a dog that looked like Falcore minus the scales. not_a_human July 1st, 2009, 2:15 am According to my mom, the first movie I saw in theaters was probably Beauty and the Beast:love:. But since I was like, 2 years old, I don't remember. The first theater movie I do remember is Pocahontas:love: - we sat really close to the screen! And of course, I'm sure I watched movies at home with my older sister, so I have no idea what my all time first movie was. First PG-13 was Gladiator at a friends house when I was 12. First PG-13 in the theaters was Spider-Man, also at 12. My parents were kind of strict about that stuff. First R was a horrible movie at a friends halloween party at 12 years old, I think it was called Hollow Man and it was awful. As for the theaters, I haven't seen one yet. CARROLiZER July 6th, 2009, 12:44 pm I'm not sure but I think the first movie I saw in the cinema was Pocahontas, but I am not really sure. I had to be 6 year or something. sllagnire July 6th, 2009, 11:49 pm I'm pretty sure my first movie was Bambi. vampiricduck July 8th, 2009, 1:27 am Falcore! I loved that movie when I was a kid. My friend in high school had a dog that looked like Falcore minus the scales. We call the puppy that. She looks like him. :D The Neverending story was one of my first films too, and Falcor was my favourite character!!! No way can you be scared of him! He's a big, flying, doggy dragon thing with a great sense of humour and fluffy ears! I want one!!! :D I think that the first film I saw in a cinema was Beauty and the Beast. There followed the Disney greats of the early 90s, and I remember them all! :D JD89 July 8th, 2009, 7:15 pm The first movie I can remember seeing was the Lion King. It's still one of my favourites! :) crazymoose July 8th, 2009, 7:19 pm I don't specifically remember my very first movie, but I, for some reason, have a recollection of seeing 'The Little Mermaid' in a theater, even though I wasn't alive when it came out... Yuna_Leonhart July 9th, 2009, 12:55 pm I don't specifically remember my very first movie, but I, for some reason, have a recollection of seeing 'The Little Mermaid' in a theater, even though I wasn't alive when it came out... It cpuld possibly be the re-release which was in 1997/1998 (can't remembr which year). crazymoose July 10th, 2009, 6:15 pm It cpuld possibly be the re-release which was in 1997/1998 (can't remembr which year).xD Well there we go, that was probably it! SadPanda July 30th, 2009, 8:02 am First movie ever was Aliens on opening day back in 1986 my Mom took me with her...Don't remember it since I wasn't even a month old yet. First movie I can remember seeing in theaters was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 1990. First movie I saw with my friends was the American Godzilla film First film I saw more than once in the theater was Pirates Of The Caribbean: Curse of The Black Pearl First time I ever got sick at the movies was while watching Gremlins 2 at the Drive-In...me and my cousin were sitting on top the car and I puked all over the windshield. Shingie August 6th, 2009, 9:52 pm I saw Jurassic Park when I was 3... I had nightmares for two weeks afterwards. O.O; Now when I watch it again I'm like, why was I scared of this again? lol. QuackAttack August 6th, 2009, 10:42 pm I think mine was Disney's The Little Mermaid. HermioneG05 August 6th, 2009, 11:24 pm I do not remember the first movie I saw in the theatre...no idea... I know the first movie I ever saw on VHS (where you actually had to rewind and fast forward because there was no "scene selection" menu) was either The Wizard of Oz or The Sound of Music...I still love both of them. I watched Gone with the Wind when I was young too, but I think it was after The Wizard of Oz and The Sound of Music. Shadow_Wolf September 9th, 2009, 6:52 am The first movie I remember seeing at a theatre was Aladdin, and the first I remember seeing was Jungle Book... IMissPadfoot September 9th, 2009, 7:55 am The first movie I ever saw in the cinema was a re-release of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves when I was about 5. I can't remember which I saw first though. :p LindaZhu September 16th, 2009, 8:48 pm i think my first movie was Titanic, so i've always held a soft spot in my heart for that movie. not to mention it is a great work of art. Perlidia September 20th, 2009, 4:17 pm The first film I saw in the cinema was a re-release of Mary Poppins (I think it was a matinée thing because it was in the 80's). My mother was trying to explain to me what a cinema was and told me it would be dark with a large curtain. I remember thinking it would be like a photo booth that my mother and I would sit in and watch the film on a screen. However not even this cherished childhood memory can enamor me to the unappealing slightly disturbing Mary Poppins. Tams23 September 20th, 2009, 5:47 pm The Lion King. I was so sad when Mufasa died. :sigh: (thinking about it, i was quite old - 11) Gaian September 23rd, 2009, 5:05 pm My first movie was Disney's The black cauldron. I was very young, 6, and I think my mother didn't have any idea of what was the story about, except that it was a Disney! As far as I remember, I've not been that much impressed (I mean, I've never had nightmares :D ), and I still watch it gladly. Siriusandme September 25th, 2009, 8:41 pm The first time I went to the cinema I saw Lady and the Tramp with my sister and out parents. I must have been around 5. I spend the entire ride home crying my iyes out and my parents vowed never to take us to the cinema again.... They never did... MC2456 November 19th, 2009, 3:15 am Batman. I was only four or something. But I ran out of the cinema halfway, because I was scared of one of the villians. I think it was Mr. Penguin. IenjoyAcidPops November 19th, 2009, 3:36 am Batman. I was only four or something. But I ran out of the cinema halfway, because I was scared of one of the villians. I think it was Mr. Penguin. Oh, Batman Returns. Yeah, that is not an appropriate movie for a 4-year-old. (Although, I loved it at that age.) Bonta Kun November 19th, 2009, 6:12 pm I don't remember what the first film I ever saw was but my first cinema visit was to see Lady and The Tramp when it was rereleased around 1984 or 1985. I still remember being distraught when it looked like Trusty had died. It remains one of my favourite films :) Electricfeel November 22nd, 2009, 9:49 am I have very very vague memories of seeing The Flinstones, and The Lion King at the cinema when I was little. And where I am (Bulgaria) the books were translated when they first were out, and now they're being re-published anew, so I started collecting them. They have the original Tove Jansson illustrations, too :D Linda86 June 3rd, 2010, 2:23 am The first movie I watched in a cinema was Andre. Ghost_Rider July 11th, 2010, 12:36 pm As you're talking so long ago (nearly 40 years), I can't exactly remember which was the first film I went to see but I know it was either the Disnety adaptation of Robin Hood or Diamonds Are Forever. What is sad is that the cinema where I went to see my first films (also including Shout at the Devil and Bambi) no longer exists and is not part of our shopping centre arithmancer July 11th, 2010, 1:21 pm I know I saw some Disney (Fantasia, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty) but the first movie I remember seeing was "2001: A Space Odyssey". I was 6 (and this was in a university student movie theater, I was not yet born when the movie was first released!) segovi24 July 12th, 2010, 9:30 pm One of my first memories was seeing the Lion King. What a fantastic way to start my movie-watching life. Rastaban43 July 12th, 2010, 9:36 pm First one I can remember is Bambi on my seventh birthday. I'm sure I saw a few movies before this (maybe some other Disney film or the Land Before Time, but I'm not sure), but Bambi is my clearest early movie memory. Hairband July 13th, 2010, 7:27 am The very first movie I can remember seeing in theaters was Stuart Little. Though I believe the first movie I ever saw on VHS was probably the Little Mermaid. APolaris July 13th, 2010, 8:05 am Apparently, my parents took me to "Return of the Jedi" when I was an infant. Darth Vader's theme apparently made me scream a lot.
