anyone play Celtic or folk music? what instrument(s) do you play? how long have you been plaing ? what is your favorite tune to play?

I personally have been playing violin (classical) for almost four years but i desided to do more fiddling instead becuase it was much more fun, but i'm still learning so i'm not that great... my favorite tune is The Butterfly, but i havn't masterd it yet.

Absolutely! I play classical as well as folk music (I'm a fiddle player too :D). But I can't possibly pick one tune!
I've been playing for about 8 or 9 years now, I love it. I love old tyme music as well as Celtic, swing, jazz, and just about anything else under the sun.
What about you? What kind of fiddle music do you like and who's your favorite musician?
I love so many... some are Natalie MacMaster (obviously!), Mark O'Connor, and JP Cormier's another one. The list goes on...

I'm trying to teach myself folk recorder/penny whistle at the moment, but I'm not very good. I tend to try and play stuff from the folk CDs I have (I like Eliza Carthy, Jim Moray, Rachel Unthank and the Winterset and Spiers and Boden a lot).

My favourite tune for playing is a minor key version of The Rigged Ship (which I stole from a Spiers and Boden CD)

I'm doing the same. I have a pretty good ear so figuring out the tunes isn't too hard, just lots of practice.

I'd love to learn the fiddle.

Tin Whistle and the Harp for me... my favourite tune at the moment is Morrison's jig, which is pretty famous. Also, Seven Stars, The Kesh Jig, The Rochdale Coconut Dance, The Butterfly.

I'm lucky to be surrounded by lots of great folk musicians so if I go wrong I'm easily put right again :P

My favourite whistle player is Michael McGoldrick and for fiddle players, probably Dave Swarbrick.

Unsure of my favourite harpist!
