Professor Trelawney August 16th, 2009, 8:09 pm I have been crystal gazing and to my astonishment, I saw myself abandoning my solitary quarters to bring you a small contest. Who am I to refuse the promptings of fate? I at once hastened from my tower in search of Professor Lupin. But, as usual, he eludes me.
While we are waiting for Professor Lupin to return from his adventures, the Inner Eye has foreseen that we will have a contest to see who may be possessed of the Sight.
The contest is over. The Fates have never been wrong. I bring you a true seer, a person who has the Inner Eye. Her name is Den_Muggle. She has correctly predicted that there will be 84 entries.
Den_Muggle wins 5 House points for Gryffindor.
My inner eye has told me that there will be exactly 84 entries for this contest and 17 will use the topic of the Pixies.
I'll be awaiting my award in my private quarters. Don't worry, I'll know when it is to be awarded. The inner eye will tell me in plenty of time. :D
http://i382.photobucket.com/albums/oo261/DenMuggle/COS%20Avatars/teal_eye_avatar_small.gif
The Fates have informed me that a change in the results is forthcoming. A missing entry has been found, and the contest now has 85 entries. We have a tie, with Pox Voldius guessing 86 entries and Den_Muggle guessing 84 entries. The winner of the tie breaker question is Pox Voldius, since her guess of 14 pixie topics was closer than Den_Muggle's guess of 17.
Pox Voldius earns 5 House points for the entries prediction and an additional 5 House points for the pixie prediction, to give 10 points to Slytherin House.
Den_Muggle will keep her 5 House points because she is tied for the entries prediction.
Congratulations to our two Seers!
I'm going to guess that there will be 86 entries to the 5th Challenge, and 14 of them will be on the Pixie topic.
The predictions are here (http://www.cosforums.com/showthread.php?t=122304). Some of you may want to stick to Potions or Charms. :sigh:
You may use crystals balls to gaze into the future to see how many entries will be in the contest. Because there may be more than one of you who may possesses the Sight and guess the correct answer, we will have a tie-breaker question. You will be asked to predict how many entries have used the essay topic: "The Pixies, the Moste Evile Beings". Those of you without crystal balls can use Harry Potter's method of taking a wild guess. Sometimes being all knowing is such a burden.
Your predictions can be made in this moderated thread:
Prediction Contest - Vote here (http://www.cosforums.com/showthread.php?t=122304)
The winner will be the one who comes closest to guessing how many entries are in the Fifth Challenge. The tie-breaker question will only be used if more than one of you has the correct answer. If the tie-breaker question has to be used, then the winner will be the one who guesses both the number of entries in the contest, and comes closest to guessing the number of entries with the Pixie topic.
The contest will end when Professor Lupin returns from his wanderings and posts the contest entries thread. The Inner Eye foresees that he may not return for at least 24 hours.
You may discuss the prediction contest in this thread. Minerva has asked me to accompany her outdoors for the evening. I predict that I may not return for awhile. The solitude of my quarters is always a comfort. The hustle and bustle of the internet always clouds my Inner Eye.
Remember that the entries and the identities of those who wrote them, like all the contests in the Trapdoor Contest, are to remain secret until the contest ends.
HollieWeasley August 16th, 2009, 8:18 pm wow, sounds fun...i might have a crack at that (:
Klio August 16th, 2009, 8:20 pm This looks like fun!
...erm.. I mean... this looks like a most serious test of our Inner Eye.
Thanks, Professor. :D
PureBloodGirl August 16th, 2009, 9:47 pm I've already got the sight, this should be a piece of cake. :)
freelantzer August 16th, 2009, 9:50 pm I'll take a stab at it.
twinsrule26 August 16th, 2009, 9:53 pm I've put in my prediction
Pox Voldius August 16th, 2009, 9:53 pm As have I.
Den_muggle August 16th, 2009, 10:43 pm No one else needs to bother. The inner eye has told me the correct answers and I have given them to the mods.

Hah, we'll see about that. :p
Cool smiley for the Eye, btw! Except it's not red, it'd look like Sauron's eye. ;)
Martishon August 16th, 2009, 11:02 pm Sauron's eye is red, and the black part is like cat's... :hmm:
I guessed here too!
silver ink pot August 16th, 2009, 11:13 pm I gave it my best shot. But I've never been good at guessing the number of jellybeans in a jar or anything like that. Mine was probably a low guess because the future looks foggy to me.

Den_muggle August 17th, 2009, 12:37 am So do we get points (house or individual) for our guesses? Do we get a cool Trelawney Prize like this one: http://i382.photobucket.com/albums/oo261/DenMuggle/COS%20Avatars/TrelawneyAward.jpg
(See, this is proof you should all just stop wasting time guessing. I won the Trelawney Prize in the Tri-Wizard Tournament. I have already proven my skills as a seer. And yes, I know Trelawney only had one correct prediction for many years, but then she had a 2nd, so I should have 2. :p)
twinsrule26 August 17th, 2009, 2:31 am For Denise - http://www.smilies-and-more.de/pics/smilies/various/382.gif :rotfl:
rigdoctorbri August 17th, 2009, 3:00 am My inner Eye is a bit out of focus

If you are possessed of The Sight, then it should not be a guess!!!
HollieWeasley August 17th, 2009, 3:06 am I'm more of a harry... i just guess blindly.. lol
Colonel_Fubster August 17th, 2009, 3:15 am Augh, the wibbly eyeball! :scared: :eeep:
I've submitted my wild guess. :D
HollieWeasley August 17th, 2009, 3:18 am haha, same....i think i did mine first
Vig August 17th, 2009, 3:48 am Here's a contest in which I can easily get a troll!!!
silver ink pot August 17th, 2009, 4:54 am Here's a contest in which I can easily get a troll!!!
 Me too! TROLL
The_Green_Woods August 17th, 2009, 5:30 am I submitted my wild guess too; but I'm afraid my Inner Eye was all foggy! ;)
MmeBergerac August 17th, 2009, 7:30 am I used Harry's method, I'm afraid. But if I'm miracously right in my prediction, I'll go straight to the lottery office.
Vig August 17th, 2009, 4:34 pm Maybe we have to give the prediction while making up a horrible story so that Trelawney believes us...Oh, I meant Professor Trelawney.
leah49 August 17th, 2009, 5:36 pm I have no inner eye, but I'll take a stab at guessing.
GinnyIsGenius August 17th, 2009, 7:09 pm My 8-ball says I got this one "without a doubt".
(Then again. it has been saying that since the contest started ...)
Kanksha August 17th, 2009, 7:21 pm Ooh I found this thread just before the allotted 24 hours were almost up! That has to be a sign from the Inner Eye :D
And I'm seeing something! Off I go to post it! ;)
Anhelda August 17th, 2009, 8:21 pm Hmm, divination seems like a very wooly subject to me; therefore, I made my predictions based on arithmancy principles. ;)
Litium_femme August 17th, 2009, 8:41 pm I just counted the participants from the previous challenge and I added a couple of more. My inner eye is quite sleepy today, so I just randomly guessed. Anyway, I should have aske my dad, he is always intouch with his inner eye( more like with his inner luck) :)
SusanBones August 17th, 2009, 9:04 pm Ooh I found this thread just before the allotted 24 hours were almost up! That has to be a sign from the Inner Eye :D

The Prediction contest remains open until Professor Lupin posts the contest entries. Professor Trelawney was just predicting that it would take 24 hours. It will take longer than that. Her inner eye was clouded once again.
LittleElf August 17th, 2009, 9:27 pm Professor Trelawney was just predicting that it would take 24 hours. It will take longer than that. Her inner eye was clouded once again.
Fancy that! Who'd have guessed?
Gee, how much longer to wait? I don't have any nails left to speak of. :sigh: Maybe I could gather enough Sickles to get me a manicure? ^-^ :eyebrows:
SusanBones August 17th, 2009, 10:04 pm I would predict that everyone in Europe should get a good night's sleep.
Den_muggle August 17th, 2009, 11:15 pm But not those of us in the US? :D OK, I'll stop badgering and wait patiently.
Nadia August 17th, 2009, 11:44 pm The wait is over!
I'll just close this until Professor Trelawney comes down from her tower and gives us her veredict.
Professor Trelawney August 18th, 2009, 2:32 am The Fates have never been wrong. I bring you a true seer, a person who has the Inner Eye. Her name is Den_Muggle. She has correctly predicted (http://www.cosforums.com/showpost.php?p=5393936&postcount=19) that there will be 84 entries.
Den_Muggle wins 5 House points for Gryffindor.
The guesses have been revealed. Some of you may want to stick to Potions or Charms. :sigh:

LyraLovegood August 18th, 2009, 2:41 am *was way off, and fully intends to stick with Ancient Runes*
Congratulations, Denise!
Colonel_Fubster August 18th, 2009, 2:42 am So much for my "wild guess" tactic.
Congrats Den! :D
Spacecadet August 18th, 2009, 2:42 am Yay congrats Den  Thanks for winning more points for gryffindor
freelantzer August 18th, 2009, 2:47 am So close . . . oh, well.
Congrats, Den!
Den_muggle August 18th, 2009, 2:52 am Thanks, Professor! :D
I warned you all that you were wasting your time, but you didn't listen.
That actually was a bit shocking, but I'm glad to have won Gryffindor some more badly-needed points.
Thanks for that extra surprise contest. It was fun.
Vig August 18th, 2009, 2:54 am Thanks, Professor! :D

So, Denise, who's going to win this contest? (Beside yourself of course!!!)
Den_muggle August 18th, 2009, 3:11 am Being all knowing is such a burden at times. And it wouldn't be fair to the others to tell right now, though, of course, I do know. :agree:
LyraLovegood August 18th, 2009, 3:15 am Denise, that was officially scary.
And so is your wavy eye avatar. If you start actually using it instead of your Gryffindor smiley, coupled with your creepy dancing purple troll siggy pic, I will have nightmares about your posts in future.
:eeep:
Also congratulations to PoxVoldy, who must have been the runner-up in the InnerEye contest. Off by only two!!
boushh August 18th, 2009, 3:18 am Congrats D_M! You must really have the sight!
PureBloodGirl August 18th, 2009, 3:52 am Drat! So you choose to fail me when it really matters, Sight? I'll show you what happens to people when I don't get my way. Feel the wrath of my axe! :argh:
:p Congrats, Den!
GinnyIsGenius August 18th, 2009, 3:53 am Den, I told you in your profile, but I'll say so publicly: THAT WAS SO SIIIIIIIIIIICK! :wow: My Gooooooooooooosh! WOW!
Pox Voldius August 18th, 2009, 5:31 am DANG! I was only off by TWO! :grumble:
Ah well, congrats, Denise!
Vig August 18th, 2009, 5:37 am Isn't it incredibly weird that our two resident statisticians have made the most accurate predictions? :rotfl:
Pox Voldius August 18th, 2009, 5:39 am Not really. We're just more in tune with the numbers & participation trends :p
What's incredibly weird is that when I was in school, I absolutely hated statistics :D
Looks like freelantzer came in 3rd on the predictions -- she guessed 87.

Yes, I was going to say that I would be worried if you weren't nearly correct.
Congratulations to Den_Muggle, who has extra-sensory perception!
And of course Congrats to Pox and Freelantzer who made educated guesses!
What I can't believe is the Pixie Topic! :scared: I decided that so many were entering the contest that it might be as many as 5. Turns out there were nine. At first, I honestly thought it was a trick question, and there were zero, which is what Daggerstone guessed. I almost did the same.
I could never be a statistician. I use the other side of my brain too much.

Hey I got the Pixie prediction, right!!! Don't I get something for that...;)
Den_muggle August 18th, 2009, 11:23 am Well, my inner eye was not up to revisions. It blinked after the initial posting.
Professor Trelawney August 18th, 2009, 12:56 pm The Fates have informed me that a change in the results is forthcoming. A missing entry has been found, and the contest now has 85 entries. Don't the other less superior seers get any point for this? :hmm:
Litium_femme August 18th, 2009, 1:56 pm Congratulations to the two winners!!!!
Pox Voldius August 18th, 2009, 6:16 pm w00t!

Den_muggle August 18th, 2009, 7:40 pm Thanks, everyone and congrats to Pox Voldius. That's what I get for blinking my inner eye at the wrong time.
leah49 August 18th, 2009, 7:45 pm  One second later and it might have given you the absolute exact correct answer instead of being one number off. ;)
Colonel_Fubster August 19th, 2009, 3:17 am  Congratulations Pox! http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd140/Colonel_Fubster/cos%20pics/Smilie_Slytherinwappen.gif
