Rereading.

Rereading is sometimes more enjoyable than reading the book for the first time.

When reading a book for the first time, one is usually keen on finishing the book and so they might miss a lot of points on their first read, which makes rereading quite important.

Also in rereading, you get to know the characters of a book better and have a better idea on their personalities, weaknesses, etc.

You may also get a new idea about the book itself after you've reread it more than once.

Yet, I've seen people who actually despise reading the book more than once. My own brother for instance, starts mocking me and talking about how poor my memory is, when he finds out that I'm rereading a book.

So I have a few questions on the matter:

What do you think of rereading books?

What books do you like rereading?

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?

Feel free to add more questions :D

What do you think of rereading books?
I try to reread my books as much as possible. I dont see why people can watch tv reruns over and over again and not reread a much better book

What books do you like rereading?
Any book that i liked the first time. Some books are horrible enough the first time :p. For example, i've reread each of the harry potter books over 30 times (or listened to the audiobooks) over the years. I've reread Dresden Files quite a bit too, particularly dead beat, proven guilty and white night because they were my only english books when i went to china last summer :p. Most books i've read, i've usually reread or at least reread my favorite parts of it.

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?
I've reread Twilight once, i hated it so much after the second time. But I dont usually change my mind, but i gain new insight into it. Even now after my umpteenth time reading Harry Potter, I notice new plot points and new things about the characters, etc.

1. I like to reread books a lot.

2. I love rereading my favorites because then I can analyze them better and sometimes notice things I didn't catch before while reading it the first time.

3. Not really. Most of the time it just makes me love reading the book even more than before.

What do you think of rereading books?

It really depends on the book. If I enjoyed it the first time I will most likely read it again in the future. If I don't like a book, I'll try it once more just to make sure I don't like it and why.

What books do you like rereading?
Definitely the Potter books. There's one that I read in the fifth grade, it's called The Talking Earth, by Jean Craighead George. It's really good, I always pick that one up now and then. Petey is also another of my favorites, very emotional and based on a true story. Can't think of any others at the top of my head. :hmm:

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?
There have been a few books and stories, like the first time I read The Pit and the Pendulum by Edgar Allen Poe, I thought it was boring and not creepy at all. I ended up reading it again my senior year of high school, and I really enjoyed it the second time around. There are a few others as well.

What do you think of rereading books?
I like it. I know a lot of people who don't see the point in rereading because they already know what's going to happen, but I don't see it that way. Instead, I look at rereading as the chance to notice the little things that you never notice before. If it's a series, you can also refresh your memory and try to actively look for clues.

What books do you like rereading?
Harry Potter. :p There are many others I like rereading, too, but I reread HP the most, naturally.

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?
Yes. Years ago I read The Catcher in the Rye and didn't like it because I couldn't see the point. But when we had to read it again in English, I understood why Holden was the way he was and got the point of the book because I analyzed it. There are some books that people can't appreciate at a young age, IMO, and will only enjoy later on.

What do you think of rereading books?

If I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book/series, loved certain characters, situations, descripition and/or humour; I'll re-read them. Sometimes I'll like a book, but there might not be enough there to entice me to read through it again. If I just didn't like the book, perhaps due to the characterisation, then I just leave them.

What books do you like rereading?

I love rereading my favorites because then I can analyze them better and sometimes notice things I didn't catch before while reading it the first time.

I agree, that's a great part of re-reading books!

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?

Sometimes if I've returned to a story much later, my added age and new life experiences/perspective can mean I'll have an altered opinion about a character's motivations/actions or a particular situation.

What do you think of rereading books?
Usually, I enjoy it very much. If I love a certain book, I most likely read it more than once or twice. My mum thinks I'm nuts, considering how often I already read the Harry Potter series

What books do you like rereading?
Book series, usually. Like Harry Potter, or Bartimaeus, or Eragon.
And certain novels like Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini or Jodi Picoult books. They don't lose their beauty. :)
I don't like rereading thrillers or whodunnits usually, because they're easy reads that are not as exciting anymore if you already know what the end is like.

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?
Yes, Twilight for example. I liked it when I first read it when I was thirteen, now after rereading it I can't really stand it anymore.

I've reread Twilight once, i hated it so much after the second time.

I've changed my mind about Twilight, too. At the first time reading, I didn't enjoy it. But I was quite excited to finish it, like any other book. I also didn't know what exactly was coming. But at the following re-reads of the book.. I felt there was something different between Twilight and the other novels I usually read. I couldn't put my finger on the plot. Something was wrong about the characters. Until, I've finally made my mind not to read it again. And I've got rid of Breaking Dawn, too. Which was a first to me, as I've never got rid of any book before no matter how horrible.

What do you think of rereading books?

There are so many books that get better with rereading and every time you re-read them, you learn something more and try to look at it from a different angle. Personally, I think rereading is most effective for non-fiction, classics and of course favourites.

What books do you like rereading?

HP of course. Most of Austen's works. ( Pride and Prejudice is my most reread Austen, about 7 times and I always find something fascinating and new every single time :) )

Nonfiction, autobiographies and biographies definitely. I've read Mahatma Gandhi's My Experiments With Truth about 3 times. It is a tough read and sometimes I reread specific parts and it helps so much! I reread most historic non-fiction books, like The Discovery of India, Indian Summer: The Secret History of the End of an Empire and Freedom at Midnight.

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?

Yeah, Austen's Emma. I hated it at first, I found it very boring and Emma was annoying. But a reread miraculously changed the way I looked at Emma, one of Austen's most flawed, yet most fascinating heroines.

I realized I liked The Inheritance of Loss much lesser, once I reread it. The first time, I was so enamoured and prepared to find the most minute reasons to like the book since it has made history- its author became the youngest woman to win the Booker for that book. But a reread was much more objective and put things into perspective better and I felt it was such an overrated book.

* What do you think of rereading books?
I don't think nothing about it in particular. I reread all the time because, as you said, I'm so anxious to get to the end I miss little parts.

* What books do you like rereading?
Almost every book I liked, particularly the long ones, in which I miss the most the firsy time. But there are books that I liked and would never re-read, like Dostoievskis's 'Crime and Punishment'.

* Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?

Nope. Usually I start liking them even more. However I could change my opinion on certain characters, but that's all.

What do you think of rereading books?
It's essential to re-read books (for me anyway lol) because your opinion could change and you notice more the 2nd time, or even the 10th time ;-)

What books do you like rereading?
HP obviously, and i read On the Road by Jack Kerouac once a year :-)

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?
I couldn't get past chapter 6 of Emma (Jane Austen) last year. The story seemed pointless and i didn't like any of the characters. I picked it up again at the beginning of the year and i really enjoyed it! I read it in a couple of days.

I know a lot of people that dislike rereading books. I think it's important to reread them, especially if it's a book you love. And you never know what you've missed- I mean as an example, I've read OotP about 15 times, and only yesterday for the first time I noticed the dream Harry has about Neville and Professor sprout waltzing in the Room of Requirement with Professor McGonnagal playing bagpipes...

What do you think of rereading books?
I generally don't mind to do that every so often, especially if the book is interesting and well written and draws me in.

What books do you like rereading?

Like I said before, ones that are well written, can draw me in -- that kind of thing generally. Also I like to reread mystery, fantasy, action adventure novels and more. In fact I just reread 1984 awhile ago -- and got a lot more from it than I did the first time that I read it. It was that much better reading the second time around.

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?
Not really.

* What do you think of rereading books?
I think it's great. One can notice so many things by rereading books that one has missed in the first round. Sometimes some things are funny and the next time they are not. It's fun. But there is one book I don't want to reread. It's Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere. I loved the book and it was awesome and I am afraid that it won't be as good as I remember if I reread it. I mean it could be better, but for now, I am not willing to take a risk that is worse...

* What books do you like rereading?
There isn't any particular books I like to reread. I mean it all comes to what I feel. Well Lord of the Rings, it never gets old. ;D

* Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?
Not that I remember. Ican't say yes or no.

What do you think of rereading books?

You'rel looking at someone who does not like checking out books from the public library half of the time, so I really have no option but to reread my books!

What books do you like rereading?

The Redwall books, definitely. It's pretty indepth. The only thing I don't like, is that some of the characters and their little stories could have been more intresting than the big story if they were elaborated on.

And HP. Of course.

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?

Not really, but lots of small plot points are made drastically clear. Like in Pearls of Lutra, the second and third clues; usually, the riddles in the Redwall books stump me. But I managed to figure these out quickly.

What do you think of rereading books?

I love it!

What books do you like rereading?

Fiction for the pleasure in revelling in the details and for the feeling of meeting an old friend, non-fiction because there's always something new to learn.

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?

Not entirely, no. But some books (namely the "corner store variety") are often best the first time around. The second read sheds more light on their flaws.

What do you think of rereading books?

-I do it all the time, it only opens my eyes that much more to the subtleties, foreshawdowing and I can understand the characters, plot and story references/parallels that much better.

What books do you like rereading?

-Anything really no specific genre. Whatever book I feel I could be further entertained or enlightened by, I will usually re-read.

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?

-Not that I can recall, every book I read I make a genuine effort to take my time understanding as much as possible, I don't rush. Not to say that I am a slow reader or unable to comprehend material well, I am, I just make sure I understand as many aspects of any given book that I possibly can. Hence, the first time I read a book I usually know if I will want to read it again in the future. I have not read very many books that I would not consider picking up again though.

What do you think of rereading books?
I think it's a great idea. Oftentimes you see things you didn't see the first time around (kind of like when you re-watch a movie), and I think sometimes things can become clearer.

What books do you like rereading?
Mainly books I enjoy a great deal. I like to reread LotR every couple of years or so. I also reread books that are part of a series when a new book in the series is about to be released, that way I can remember everything that came before the newest book.

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?
No, I don't think it's ever happened that I've completely changed my mind about a book after rereading it. But I may reorganize its ranking in my mind based on other books I've read.

What do you think of rereading books?

I love rereading books. I think I have books I've read ten times or more.

What books do you like rereading?

Mostly fiction that is either particularly brilliant or with which I have an emotional connection of some sort. I like revisiting books I read as a teenager, for instance, even though I can see glaring flaws in some of them now.

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?

Yes, I think it's impossible not to. Not only does the reader grow and mature, every reading experience is different because the outside influences are different.

I love rereading and have always done it--it's natural to me. Some people don't understand why anyone would reread, but I don't understand why anyone wouldn't reread. I can't really imagine why people wouldn't want to reread a book they liked. It's just like wanting to watch a movie more than once. So what if you already know the plot? There's so much more depth there. Plus, it's like revisiting an old friend--I reread for the experience of inhabiting that world again.

The books I've probably reread the most are HP (well, aside from the ones I teach year after year). I've read Ender's Game a few times, too. And I really love going back and reading books I loved as a kid, like Where the Red Fern Grows or Island of the Blue Dolphins. I read those millions of times as a kid, and I reread them each once as an adult. It was really enlightening to read them now and see what I had loved about them then. I got a whole new insight into myself, really.

What do you think of rereading books?

I find rereading a good idea. When it's an interesting plot with fascinating characters, I am happy at the prospect of reliving the adventures again. Also, I have a tendency to pick up errors such as grammar, spelling and naming when reading a book for the ump-teenth time.

What books do you like rereading?

The books I reread most come from the series that I enjoy. HP is naturally one of them. I can't count how many times I've opened one of those books and took another turn through the pages. I also carry out this process with the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer. The books are captivating and written in a way that makes you never become sick of staring at the same batch of words. So, yes. ;)

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?

Changed my mind, I have not. But, I have noticed several more details and am thereby able to have a broader understanding of the plot and people involved. Generally, (until I've overdosed), I shall only continues to like the book even more. :tu::relax:

What do you think of rereading books?
Sometimes, when you reread a book, you find something that you missed before and your opinion of the book can also change upon rereading. I definitely like rereading books, though. Only certain ones that are worth it, like ones that capture your attention upon the first read and you just fly through it. Then, you have to read it again to really get the whole plot of it. At least, that's how it is for me at times.

What books do you like rereading?
Mainly just the Harry Potter series. That's the only series I've found worth the reread so far.

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?
Yes, actually. I reread the Twilight series and that changed my whole opinion on the series. I thought it was amazing before, but then I got to really see the book and figured out my mistake.

What do you think of rereading books?

I enjoy rereading, but I don't do it very often. I have so many books that I haven't read yet, that I always feel a bit guilty, rereading instead of reading a new one :lol: There are some books i've tried to reread and just couldn't get into them like I did the first time.

What books do you like rereading?

The Harry Potter series, obviously :p Also, Little Women, The Giver...anything, really. If I enjoyed it once, I will read it again.
I have had a hard time rereading Can You Keep A Secret for some reason. I suppose I didn't wait long enough between reading and rereading, because I kept wanting to skip ahead to the funny parts I knew would be coming up

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?
Several people have mentioned Twilight, and I had the same experience. When I first read Twilight, I liked it. I didn't think it was great, mind you, but i found it enjoyable, and I wanted to find out what happened. I read the first three books within a few weeks. I found them fairly pointless, cheesy, but not bad. Then upon my reread of Twilight, I realized I didn't like it. Instead of reading to find out the ending, I was really reading it and paying attention, and there was just so much stuff that bothered me, right from the beginning of the book. The more I read, the more I disliked the books, the characters, the author... I am normally a pack-rat, especially when it comes to books, and I keep everything. But I gave the Twilight books to my little sister, who, upon rereading, found them to be "kind of annoying".

* What do you think of rereading books?

I do reread a lot. It makes you see things you haven't noticed the first time. And it's absolutely necesary if you want to analyse the text.

* What books do you like rereading?

Mostly the books I liked when I read them first.

* Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?

Yes, but that's quite exeptional. In general, I just noticed some details and understood some more things. Sometimes, I noticed defaults that lessened my admiration. I really changed my mind a couple of times, about books I'd tried to read when I was too young to understand, and liked them only after rereading, some years later - or about books I lked when very yound, and found boring after.

I believe there is a right time to read some books - if you read them in a wrong moment of your life, the magic doesn't work.

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?

Defintely, yes.

The first time I read Chamber of Secrets it was different, now itīs at my top of favs books, I prefer it over HP 3; when I read HP 3 for the first time it was my favorite HP book, but now I have CoS too...
I am just waiting to finish all the serie and see if my order of favorites HP books will change...

I am right now reading a book I read in 1988, and definitely enjoying it more, and becoming a fan of the autor :)

I reread books a lot. I almost never read a book once. Even though I can remember almost everything from the book, I will turn right to the front cover after reaching the last page.
My dad is always confused by my habits. I am constantly trying to explain to him that, even though I already know the story, I read for the details.

What do you think of rereading books?
I reread frequently. A lot of the times I find a book more enjoyable the second or third time, because the first time I read it I get ansty for the climax and my eyes skip over some parts that may be important.

What books do you like rereading?
Any books that I enjoyed. I reread the climax or end a lot of the time, (see reason above) but I also read over my favourite parts, to get a better feel for them. I've read many books twice and thrice, and enjoy them more each time.

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?
Usually I just enjoy it a little more, because I uncover things I didnt' catch the first time. However, I've reread books I read for the first time a couple years ago, and think, "Why on earth did I like this?"

What do you think of rereading books?

I reread a lot. If a book is good the first time, it is usually even better the second time. I get very invested in the characters, more so than the story, and it's always good to revisit old friends.

What books do you like rereading?

HP, of course. I just recently reread 6 & 7. I'm starting up a new year of my HP book club tomorrow, so I'll be reading SS again. I really never get tired of it.

I even like rereading mysteries for various reasons. Some of them I haven't read in a long time and I forget "whodunit" and others I really enjoy the characters.

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?

I think as I get older, I have a different perspective on some books. I think the most notable was Wuthering Heights. I read it first at age 17, and was fascinated by the intensity of the feelings between Heathcliff and Cathy. Ten years later, I got very impatient with them and decided they could use a good dose of B-vitamins. Some time after that, I read it again and just enjoyed the book for what it was.

I'm a huge re-reader. Funnily I assumed that everyone was the same but infact it seems us rereaders are in the minority. There are some books - like the classics for instance that I love to reread every so often. Maybe it's the well loved characters or the comfort of knowing what happens but it doesn't ruin the books for me at all, if anything I think it's the sign of a well written book if the reader revisits it again.

I am a huge rereader as well. People watch movies over and over again, what's wrong with reading a book over and over again? So what if I know what's going to happen? I find out new things and I enjoy getting wrapped up in a familiar story with familiar characters. Plus, if it's a book I bought I don't want it just sitting on my shelf collecting dust.

What books do you like rereading?
Mostly fiction; books that I've really connected with. I do dip into non-fiction books just to reread favourite chapters sometimes.

* What do you think of rereading books?

I think it's fine and it doesn't mean you have a bad memory. You could just enjoy the book. It's almost impossible to remember everything word for word anyways.

The Harry Potter series, Dreamcatcher, Pet Sematary, The gashlycrumb Tinies.

What do you think of rereading books?

I usually reread books if I feel like to. Or if I want to check again for the other things I missed on my first read. I just ignore my mom whenever she complains that I'm reading a book that I already read before.

What books do you like rereading?

They're mostly fiction. Series, long novels, books like that.

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?

Yes. It suddenly becomes my favorite book or I would think that it isn't that good as I've thought, or I would fully understand why these things happened, etc.

What do you think of rereading books?

It's ok. I mean, if you have nothing else to do, you had no time to buy a new book and you liked the old one, it's the best thing to spend your time.

What books do you like rereading?

My fave ones. If I didn't like one book or if I was a little bored while reading it, I don't even think about reading it once more.

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?

I suppose yes. There are some books which I used to like when I was younger(ever tho they were teenage literature) and when I reread them now I find out that they were not so good as I thought.

P.S.: I think the good books are the ones who deserve to be reread. If a book is well-written, the reader won't be bored to read it one more time. (e.g. Harry Potter! :D)

I do re-read. Sometimes, after a while, or several years, I forget what a book was about, so I re-read it.
Sometimes If I like a book very much I may re-read it all, or just re-read my favourite parts.
One book I read several times is The Perfume. When I was younger I used to re-read Sydney Sheldon's books all the time.
I re-read HP books several times. I havenīt re-read any of them in like 8-9 months.

What do you think of rereading books?

I can't do without it. I'm one of those people who races through on the first read to find out what happens, sometimes skipping entire paragraphs in eagerness to get to the end. So a second reading is pretty much mandatory. Sometimes if I've really enjoyed a book, I'll start the second reread immediately as soon as finish the first.

In any case I like buying books and owning my own copies and books are not meant to read once; most books I own are well-thumbed irrespective of how much I liked them.

What books do you like rereading?

I don't think there's even a single book that I haven't reread at least once. Apart from the HP series that I reread every year, I enjoy re-reading Agatha Christie because I never remember the end usually, P.G. Wodehouse because the books are so mood-lifting, but the record belongs to LotR.
The year I moved to my new house, I had my final school-leaving exams in two months so I packed up all my books in a box to be brought later, and the only book I had was LotR (Fellowship). I read that book about twenty-five times in those 2 months and every single time I came across some new detail that I hadn't picked up before!

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?

Several times. Like people have said before, several books that I read when I was too young to appreciate them and didn't like before, changed for me when I reread them after a few years' gap, Gone With The Wind, The Odyssey and Catch-22 being notable examples.

But I have never liked a book at my first read, and then not liked it the second time.

Even Twilight, which most people bring up, I found annoying when I first read it, but the second time I found it a little more compelling. I don't love it, but I can see the draw.

What do you think of rereading books?
I love it! I love being able to better understand things and catch things that you missed the first time through.

What books do you like rereading?
Anything besides mysteries or other really suspenseful books, because they aren't as fun once you know the ending - Harry Potter, of course, being the exception to that. The only books I can think of that I've read over and over are Harry Potter and Pride and Prejudice, as well as books from my childhood that I reread every once in a while. (P.S. Longer Letter Later springs to mind for that category - every time I see it on my shelf, I really want to read it.)

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?
Not in any extreme way. My order of favorite Harry Potter books and favorite characters change every time I reread them, and I'm appreciating P&P more right now while reading it in class, but generally I love books that I reread and still love them after!

What do you think of rereading books?
I love to reread books. According to me, a book is not good if I do not enjoy rereading it!

What books do you like rereading?
I love to reread:
Harry Potter
Lord Of The Rings
Blue Bloods
The Outsiders

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?
I, also, liked Twilight at first. The second time I thought that Edward was way overprotecting, Bella was a stubborn brat, they fell in love too soon, and that the writing was really bad.
The first time I read DH I didn't like it. I think I rushed through it too quickly the first time. I really love that book now.

I feel the same way! :D

What do you think of rereading books?
It totally enhances the reading experience.

What books do you like rereading?
Good books. Like Harry Potter and other series where I fell in love with the characters. Or other series that have a big plot revelation at the end and by re-reading you learn so much more, and go "Oh! Now that makes sense!" :)

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?
I can't think of a specific book that I didn't like as much...maybe Twilight. I used to love it, way back before New Moon came out. But now I'm kind of sick of that story.
But with most books, like Harry Potter, re-reading has made me love the series even more!

I think that the first time you read a book, you're more concerned with finishing it and finding out what happens. So when you reread it, you take your time a bit more and find the clues to things that happen in the end - that's one of the great things about HP, you can reread it as many times as you want and the chances are you're going to find something that you missed the other times. It can also help you to understand the characters more because you focus on the little details and analyse their actions a bit more. For example, I've read the Twilight series a few times and thought it was ok, but I recently went to reread the first chapter and couldn't stop noticing how superior the main character makes herself seem compared to the other people at the school.

To me, the best books to reread are ones with a complex plot because you pick up on the things that foreshadow events later on in the books. Also, there can be unimportant things that a character says that turn out to relate to something that happens at he end. That's the sign of a good book, IMO, and one that I'm likely to reread again.

Absolutely! I feel the exact same way about every single sentence written by gelowo93. Each time I re-read a good book, I appreciate it so much more. :)

I like rereading series, and finding foreshadowing that I never noticed before. And sometimes you have to reread books in a series because a new book comes out, and you don't remember everything that happened in the first books. Which is why I have read the first four Harry Potter books about twenty times each :D

I used to reread all the time when I was a kid. Now that I've got a full-time job with lots and lots of homework, I find that I do not really reread. I sort of feel like I have to choose between rereading an old favorite or finally reading that new book I've been waiting to read. I ultimately choose the new book. :sigh: I kind of can't wait for retirement. That's so sad since it's decades away!

What do you think of rereading books?

I reread all the time. For me it's like catching up with a long-lost friend. And especially that I have to budget out my time by rediscovering the library and rereading what I already have.

What books do you like rereading?

I will reread Christian Fiction, HP, and anything else I get in the mood for.

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?
Depends on the book really. Robert Jordan's WHeel of TIme, I've reread several times and while I didnt change my mind about the book, I have about a couple of characters. If I hate the book the first time, I usually can't stomach picking it up again to reread. HP and the Sorcerer's Stone was an exception. My college roommate had to read it for her Children's Literature class and she asked me to read it and give her enough info to pass the test, so I did. At that moment, I wasn't too keen on it. Then the movie came out while I was teaching, so I saw the movie and then decided to try the book again. I was hooked.

I love rereading books. In my opinion, it can't be your favourite until you read it again. I've read the Harry Potter books so many times I've lost count and I love rereading Twilight and the Louise Rennison books.

What do you think of rereading books? I agree about rereading books. I"m currently rereading Harry Potter. I've picked up on a lot of things. Some of them are ironic now since book 7.
What books do you like rereading? Uh Harry Potter. Percy Jackson Series.
Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading? Well, most of the time I can tell if once would be enough to reread a book. Normally though you can tell if a book is good by being able to reread it.

It depends on the author. Ira Levin's books are so well crafted that there is a definite thrill of discovery on the first read that never can be replicated in subsequent readings.

This is one reason I love to reread. I'm in the same boat. Full time job and working on my Masters Degree. I have a harder time reading new books because if I am not careful I will neglect homework when I don't want to put down a good book. Well I won't really neglect homework, but I sure will make an allnighter a lot longer! Yet when I'm rereading I don't mind as much putting down the book to work on homework and papers because I know what happens in the book I'm rereading.

What do you think of rereading books?

I think it's a good idea if you really like the book or if you want to read back to see what you missed. I don't think there is anything wrong with rereading books but I think some people think that's boring to do because they already know the story.

What books do you like rereading?

I like to reread books I've really enjoyed the first time, like the HP series. Also, sometimes when you get to the end and all the loose ends are tied together, rereading a book gives you a new perspective on it because you already know why what happens and how and stuff and that's interesting to catch.

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?

Not really, I thought it was just as interesting and good as the first time around.

I couldn't agree more. I regularly reread my favorite books, and every time I find something that I missed the time(s) before.

I've begun rereading Stieg Larsson's Millenium series. I'm picking up all sorts of hints on what's coming, and also some red herrings. I find it thoroughly enjoyable.

What do you think of rereading books?
I think it's a great idea to pick up a book again, if you enjoyed it once, you'll probably enjoy it again. You get a whole knew understanding of the book with a reread. I definitely find myself liking the book 5x's more than I did the first time, picking up ideas and clues that I wasn't aware of the first time going through. Plus, you're already in love with the characters in the story, so instead of being blinded by looking past a character that may not have had a significant roll at first, you end up paying more attention to them, excited by things you didn't pick up the first time around.

What books do you like rereading?
Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring, Sunshine by Robin McKinley, The Darkest Powers Trilogy by Kelley Armstrong, Lord Loss by Darren Shan are all books I know I've read more than once. Books I've thought about rereading are A Game of Thrones, A Great and Terrible Beauty, I am the Messenger, and the Iron Fey Trilogy. There's probably more on that list, in fact I know there's more books that should be on that list, but those are the first to pop into my mind.

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?
Yes. I tried to reread Eragon once because I knew I loved reading that book when I was younger, I found myself losing interest in the book quickly, and noticing the strange choppiness of the book. I still like it, but it's not as highly revered anymore. Rereading the Harry Potter books made me like them a lot more, when I was younger I got bored reading them (I know, blasphemy, but in my defense I got bored reading anything when I was younger).

The flip side of that is, you pick up things that you didn't the first time. It's true of any book, but especially true of suspense/mystery books. That's true of Ira Levin's books. I particularly like A Kiss Before Dying and have reread it a couple of times.

It's fun to see the clues and red herrings that you didn't know enough to pick out at first reading.

What do you think of rereading books?
As has already been said if the book is good and I like it, certainly I reread it, and then in this way you can better notice details that were missed the first time, and I add that I have reviewed many times many films, then I don’t see why I not should do the same thing with books.

What books do you like rereading?
The full Harry Potter saga, but unlike the first time I read it, I prefer to read it more slowly (for example a chapter per evening) just in order to focus on the details. The first time I read the Order of the Phoenix took me three days and it’s the longest book in the series!

Have you ever changed your mind about a book after rereading?
After rereading the book I liked even more.
