bronxbomber120 August 25th, 2009, 9:12 pm I have been reading alot of fan fiction that takes place directly after the battle of Hogwarts and have realized that they read too much like the end of a fairy tale with little conflict. I came up with a main conflict that many have discussed in the forums and i hope many of you agree with my idea. First i would like to add one more chapter to the end of Deathly Hallows. The 6 pages after Voldemort's death was too quick for me and didn't give me a sense of finality. So here we go...
The Boy Who Conquered
Harry leaned against the fence of a clearly overgrown garden. The sun was rising on a building that Harry claimed was his second favorite in the whole world. It had been a week since the Harry's triumph and there he stood reminiscing on what he figured would be prominent in his thoughts for the rest of his life. Only after a week did Harry truly realize that it was finally over, that he had to move on past the deaths of the loved ones he lost in battle, and that he, despite impossible odds, won and would be living for at least a little longer.
Harry then felt two gentle arms wrap around his waist. A flowery scent reached his nostrils and he knew immediately who it was, Ginny.
"I didn't expect you up so early," said Harry
"Well I saw you out the window and figured you could use some company. It looks like you haven't moved since I fell asleep last night." returned Ginny.
"I'm sorry ive just had alot to think about. I know its been a week but it's still hard to believe that it's over and i'm allowed to live. It feels so odd having the gift of life when you were so certain that the only option was death." explained Harry.
Ginny held him tighter as if he was going to disappear on the spot and she was going to make sure he wasn't going without her.
Harry couldn't help but chuckle. "I just said i'm not gonna die. You don't have to worry about me going anywhere now."
"Just making sure." Ginny responded. "You don't understand how difficult it was last year never knowing. I mean i had an idea. The ministry would have said something if they captured you but..."
"And you think it was any easier for me?" interrupted Harry. "I had no idea how you were doing. I mean Phineas Nigellus said how Snape punished you by sending you to Hagrid's but that's pretty much all the imformation i got."
"Who's Phineas Nigellus?" questioned Ginny.
Harry still hadn't fully explained to Ginny (or anyone else)the ordeal he shared last year with Ron and Hermione.
"I'll tell you soon," replied Harry and noticed the frustrated look flash in Ginny's eyes.
"Well mum should be making breakfast soon for Dad and Percy. We should wish them goodbye before they go." said Ginny as she pulled Harry from his perch toward the Burrow.
Upon entering Mrs. Weasley was cooking up what smelled like a delicious breakfast. She smiled widely as she said good morning to Harry and Ginny. Few were as happy about the idea of Harry being with Ginny as Mrs. Weasley. Honestly the only people happier were Harry and Ginny themselves.
Harry and Ginney took seats next to each other as Mr. Weasley and Percy sat down for a quick breakfast before they sped off to the Ministry of Magic. Mr. Weasley was constantly cursing the fact that the Ministry lost so many good muggle born wizards to Voldemorts pure blood regime. Because of this the Ministry was seriously lacking in man power and Mr. Weasley and Percy spent more time at the ministry than at home.
"Thanks, mum," said Percy as she gave him a generous portion of bacon eggs and toast. He shoveled it down almost as quickly as his father. The two of them stood up. Mr. Weasley kissed his wife and the two Weasley men left the house and disapparated after wishing Harry and Ginny a good morning.
Harry heard the lumbering tread of Ron's footsteps on the stairs and knew that his friend must have just woken up.
"What's for breakfast? I'm starving." said Ron tiredly.
"No surprises there." came a second voice down the stairs. "You wouldn't believe how much easier it was for mum to make dinner last year since you were gone."
The voice belonged to George who finally came down from his room after a week. Judging by George's return to humor, Harry could tell that the remaining Weasley twin had powered through the death of his twin brother with whom he was so close.
"Good to see you back to your usual self," said Ginny.
"Don't be too happy. The only person easier to make fun of than Ron is Percy and being that Perce isn't here at the moment..." George began.
"Oh, shut it." responded Ron but Harry could tell that his friend sounded relieved that his brother was in better spirits."
"So what are all of you up to today?" questioned Mrs. Weasley.
"I think I'll open up my shop." said George. "Ron your welcome to come if you want."
"Oh, so now you choose to be nice." responded Ron sarcastically. "I would love to but I'm seeing Hermione today. She just picked up her parents from Austrailia and she wants them to meet her..." Ron stopped obruptly.
"Her ickle Ronniekins?" replied George with a snort. Harry and Ginny couldn't help but laugh. Harry was glad for Hermione and Ron but he was going to make sure that George gave Ron hell for all of Ron's interruptions while Harry was alone with Ginny.
"I can help you out George," said Ginny. "Ive got really nothing to do today. You doing anything Harry?"
Harry thought. For the first time in his life there was no direction. There was no definate path he had to follow. There was no Dumbledore telling him what to do. No more Voldemort to kill. And he felt liberated.
"Nothing," replied Harry happily. "Nothing at all."
Ginny looked at Harry questioningly, but after realizing how happy her boyfriend was she stopped.
Ron then interjected, "If you want me and Hermione can meet up with you guys at Diagon Alley. Maybe have a look around after we help out George."
"Sounds like a plan to me." said Ginny as Harry nodded.
"Alright," responded Ron, "I'll see you two later today." He then left the house and disapparated.
"He's gonna get in trouble," sighed Mrs. Weasley. "Apparating without a license."
George quickly went up stairs to grab a few things before he left for the shop. This gave Harry and Ginny time to slip past Mrs. Weasley unnoticed. They made their way to the garden hand in hand realizing how beautiful a day it was.
"This isn't my life," stated Harry breathlessly. "Maybe i actually did die and this is what happens after."
Ginny smiled put her hands on his waist and stared into his emerald green eyes. He returned her stare but gazing into her soft brown ones. He wrapped his hands around her back and pressed his lips to hers. It was the first time since that glorious day in Ginny's room so long ago that Harry had the pleasure of kissing the girl he cared so much about. They split apart and images of peaceful walks on the Hogwarts lake returned to Harry's memory.
"Real enough for you?" remarked Ginny with a smile.
"Almost" replied Harry softly
The couple walked back to the burrow. Harry had no idea what lied ahead and, for the first time ever, Harry Potter was free.
bronxbomber120 August 27th, 2009, 7:26 am And so begins the story
Chapter 1: All is well
Harry Potter woke up in a cold sweat on what appeared to be a beautiful summer day in what was now believed to be a new era for the wizarding world. No matter how appealing this sounds Harry couldn't help but feel a little annoyed by the persistance of his subconscience to review every event of the last seven years of his life in detail. Although relieved his scar no longer prickled, he found it quite frustrating that even with Voldemort gone, he still couldn't get a good night sleep.
"Something wrong," moaned ron. Harry didn't realize he woke up his friend.
"Nothing," sighed Harry. "Just dreaming again."
Ron put on a concerned face. Harry couldn't help but laugh.
"I told you Ron. You dont need to worry about Voldemort anymore. These are just normal dreams."
"How do you know?" said Ron stifling a yawn. "You haven't had a normal dream in your life."
"Good point." reasoned Harry. "but we all gotta start some where dont we?"
"Alright, alright." Ron conceded. "Think food's ready."
Harry found it hard to believe that food would ever be not ready at the Weasleys but he was glad in the change of subject.
"Well it certainly smells like it is," stated Harry. "You go down. I'll catch up i just wanna write someone."
"Okay. See you down there," said Ron walking rather quickly through the door to get his breakfast.
Harry had no one to write. He knew that the dreams were just dreams and there was no way voldemort could still be around but he still found it disconcerting that his mind was still no longer at rest. He decided it was just the trauma of the past couple of years catching up with him and changed quickly to go downstairs. He was happy to find that Ginny was up and that Ron had just woken up George. The group sat down at the table.
"Are Dad and Percy still working?" questioned Ginny. "THey never leave the place."
"Well now do you understand why i chose business over government?" said George with a yawn. "Never have to work weekends."
"With the amount of work you do I'm amazed you bother showing up to your shop on weekdays," teased Ron.
"Careful, Ronniekins. You dont want me to spill the beans on Hermione's clever nickname for you."
Harry and Ginny immediately stopped eating. Ron's ears turned scarlet. George smiled and started eating. Realizing the threat was over, Ron turned a normal hue and resumed stuffing his face.
As soon as the meal was finished, Harry noticed three owls heading over the horizon toward the burrow. Harry realized that Ginny would be getting her list for Hogwarts soon. The fact that she would be returning to the castle without him was devastating, but he couldn't comprehend why the school would need three owls to send a simple list. The three barn owls landed. One addressed to Harry, Ron and Ginny and all of them were from Hogwarts. Harry opened the letter.
Dear Mr. Potter
In light of the fact that you were unable to attend your 7th year at Hogwarts School, you are given the opportunity to finish your education. Of course being of age you are not required to finish your education, but you will need to take your NEWT exams if you plan to progress to a profession. If you so choose to return, you will need the following:
Harry read the list briefly but he couldn't believe what was happening. Harry was going back. He couldn't believe his luck. He was allowed one more chance at a perfect year. Finally a year without pain or loss. For once he could be a normal boy just attending school. Well not that normal anymore.
"Can you believe this!" said harry excitedly. "We can go back. I cant believe it."
Ron however didnt look as enthused as Harry obviously felt.
"Oh, so you are going back." said Ron rather remosely.
"Well we kind of need it dont we? If we plan on getting anywhere in life." said Harry plainly.
"You just thought that after everything we've been through we would get a break, ya know."
"Well you know im going back. And you can bet that Hermione will jump at the chance to be able to become neurotic over a test again. It's her favorite pastime."
"I know," said Ron appearing resigned. "I guess were going back. Just after i got enough of the place too."
Harry chuckled and looked over to Ginny who was absolutely beaming. Ron trudged upstairs seemingly conversing with his brother about another rediculous contraption George planned on adding to Weasley Wizard Wheezes. Harry was greatful that he would be allowed some time with his girlfriend. Girlfriend? The word still felt funny. Harry never said it to her directly, but he assumed it was obvious they were at least together. Together? Thats a word that felt a little more comfortable and he decided to stick with that.
It wasn't until he and Ginny were halfway through the garden when Harry recognized how awkward he must of seemed not talking at all, but Ginny broke the silence first.
"You're coming back!" she exclaimed. "Oh, Harry you have no idea how happy this makes me. After last year of being so worried I know exactly where you are, and it wont be by any veela either." she added with a smile.
Harry couldn't help but smile. He never expected this in his life. It made no sense to him that he would be allowed to be with a girl he cared somuch for without having to worry about her safety.
The couple continued to walk hand in hand through the surrounding country side. A pure bliss filled Harry that brought back memories of moments 2 years ago by the Lake at Hogwarts. It was difficult to get the same sort of quiet at the Burrow expecially with Mrs. Weasley hounding the couple when ROn let slip that the two got back together. It seemed the only alone time was in the country side or at night. Unfortunately, Harrys nights were still filled with memories of his past seven years. It was only now that Harry realized how little Ginny knew. And Finally, after realizing that the information of the past 7 years no longer held any significant threat, he decided to indulge his girlfriend on everything that occurred from when he came to Hogwarts seven years ago.
"I know you stopped hounding me about what I was doing the past year," began Harry. "And im really greatful, but i decided it's about time you know. Unfortunately to understand last year your gonna hafta know about the previous six so we might be here for a bit."
Ginny immediately pulled him to the ground and stared intently into Harry's eyes. He noticed how curious her brown ones were and this gave him the courage to start the epic tale.
They sat there for hours. Ginny never broke her gaze with Harry except for once when Harry brought up Riddle's diary. Even when Harry told of the Horcuxes, she didn't gasp. Harry told her of Sirius escaping, Dobby's death, the fight at Malfoy Manor, the break in at Gringotts, the lost diadem and finally the forest. At this point Harry realized it was close to dinner but Ginny refused to let him stop. He told her of how he saw her tending the sick on the battle field and willed himself to go on. He told her as to how he survived the killing curse once more.
"...I decided the wand was too powerful for any wizard to hold. I told Dumbledore's portrait that i would return it to his grave and that it's power would die with me." Harry finished.
Harry exhaled. He felt loose and free. He never thought it would feel so good to re-tell the horrors of his life, but everything he did with Ginny had a tendency of feeling good. Ginny wrapped her arms around Harry and he returned her hug.
"You know your pretty incredible," said Ginny with admiration. "Anyone would have given up. I would."
"You say that now." Harry looked into her eyes. "But then you remember what your fighting for and everything becomes clear. I was tired of people dying for me. It was my turn to face my destiny or die trying."
"Dont you dare be that noble again you hear?" said Ginny sarcastically. Harry couldn't help but notice that her blazing brown eyes were closer than they were five seconds ago.
"No promises..." but before Harry could finish what he was saying, they were kissing. And Harry felt a passion that seemed to melt away all the icey memories of his difficult years and put into perspective the only thing that mattered at this moment, Ginny. They continued in a tight embrace and when they split the sun almost set.
"We really should get going," said Ginny regretfully.
"Yeah, I dont want your mom thinking im avoiding her meals. She thinks im too skinny already."
Ginny giggled as Harry smiled. Her whole face had a tendency to light up when she laughed. He just hoped that he would see that laughter for a long time to come.
first chapter. gotta start somewhere.
bronxbomber120 August 28th, 2009, 4:22 am i messed up here. chapter 2 begins after this
bronxbomber120 August 28th, 2009, 4:24 am Chapter Two: The Black Diary
Harry woke up suddenly. The image of Voldemore rising from the cauldron was still imprinted on the inside of his eyelids. He once again had to convince himself that they were only dreams, and that Voldemort was most certainly dead. This being said however, Harry couldn't help but feel that the dreams were ominous signs. They always acted like that before. But before he had a connection with Lord Voldemort. Harry finally settled on the fact that his mind was still shocked and he got out of bed. Knowing he wouldnt be able to go back to sleep, he slipped out the door so as not to wake Ron.
Harry began the descent down the crooked stairs. The sun was bearly up and since he smelt nothing from the kitched he assumed Mrs. Weasley was not awake yet. Harry stopped briefly at the landing which Ginny's room was on and looked longingly at the door. Deciding against waking her up so early, he proceded down the stairs only to be met by Mrs. Weasley.
"Couldn't sleep either," said Mrs. Weasley uneasily from the arm chair that was usually occupied by Mr. Weasley.
"Bad dream.," replied Harry trying to sound as if he wasn't worried.
"That's understandable dear." returned Mrs. Weasley. "You've been through quite an ordeal. Allow your mind to adjust and you will be fine in no time."
Mrs. Weasley smiled as silence filled the room. Harry knew why she was awake. Mr. Weasley and Percy were at the ministry over night again. Even with Voldemort gone she always got worried when he family worked over night.
Mrs. Weasley finally broke the silence again. "so what do you guys plan on doing today?"
Harry hadn't thought of this, but he considered what he wanted to do and replied, "I think i'll head over to number 12 Gimmauld place. I want to see if I can find anything of value."
By value Harry didn't mean a sum of gold but he was sure Mrs. Weasley understood what he meant by value.
"Well i was hoping you all would get your school supplies today considering you are all returning for one more year." said Mrs. Weasley. "How about i make you breakfast and you can check over at number 12. When the others wake up i'll send them over to you and you all can get your things in Diagon Alley."
Harry considered this and agreed. He shoveled down a delicious meal from Mrs. Weasley and was about to head to the door when Mr. Weasley and Percy trudged in clearly exhausted but deep in conversation.
"... I just find the whole situation peculiar." finished Mr. Weasley.
"What situation dear?" asked Mrs. Weasley.
"Well during Voldemort's reign, the ministry lost contact with Durmstrang, you know the other wizarding school in the north (everyone nodded). Well now the the Dark Lord is dead, we expected to hear from them but not a word at all." said Mr. Weasley.
"I'm telling you dad," added Percy. "They probably just dont know yet. They're isolated and were probably hiding from Voldemort to begin with. Give them time they'll respond."
Harry decided to slip out now while the group was still in conversation over breakfast. Harry left the Burrow and apparated to the top step of number 12 Grimmauld place. He opened the door and immediately noticed that the protective spells Moody provided were gone. They disappeared with the death of Severus Snape.
Harry couldn't help but feel a twinge of pain. Those spells were performed by Alastor Moody himself. They were like his final connection to the wizarding world. But Harry consoled himself with the realization that he died and it wasn't half bad.
Harry looked around at the dusty house. Kreacher had been at Hogwarts for so long that he no longer needed to care for number 12. However, if Harry wanted to find anything in the Black house, he knew that Kreacher was the right eld for the job.
"Kreacher," said Harry and immediately the House Elf appeared.
"What do you wish, master?" replied Kreacher with a bow.
"I was wondering if you could help me look through the old house. I'm just looking for things about Sirius or Regulus. It's my house now and I was hoping to learn as much as i can about my Godfather's family." Harry told the elf.
KReacher looked ecstatic. Harry knew the elf would jump at the opportunity to look for the lost treasures of the noble house of Black.
"Of course!" yelped Kreacher.
"Alright," said Harry, "You can check Regulus room."
Kreacher hurried up the stairs with Harry following him. Harry immediately went to Sirius' room but realized that this would be pointless. He thoroughly searched the room last year and if there was anything interesting, he would of found it.
Harry walked down the stairs and noticed a room he rarely went into. It was the master bedroom. He pushed open the door with a creek the the room immediately illuminated. Unsurprisingly, the room was decorated elaborately with emerald green and silver furniture and walls in support of the family's long affiliation with Slytherin. Harry however took notice in a massive book case on the opposite wall of the dusty room. It appeared that every single book in the collection looked worn and was bound in dark green dragon hide leather. However Harry noticed one book that looked remarkable out of place. The book was bound in black leather and upon further observation, Harry noticed that the name on the cover was "Sirius Black."
"Sirius kept a diary?" Harry questioned himself out loud.
He opened the cover and read the first page. All is said was "I'm fine, how are you?" Harry found this exceedingly peculiar but before he could investigate further Kreacher slipped into the bedroom and notified that Hermione, Ron and Ginny had just entered the house.
Harry noticed that Kreacher didnt have the usual disdain in his voice when mentioning Hermione's name. The house elf really did change. But before he could think much more about the elf, he was racing downstairs and heard Hermione's voice yell, "Harry!"
"I'm sorry it's been so long." said Hermione as she hugged Harry. "It's just ive felt terrible since my parents came home and i dont want to leave them alone for too long."
"Don't they understand you were just protecting them?" protested Ron. "I dont see why you hafta be with them seven days a week..."
"And would your parents be happy if their child obliterated their memories without warning them?" interrupted Harry.
"Why does it matter if i warn them?" questioned Ron. "they're not gonna remember anything any way."
Harry chuckled but Hermione looked mutinous.
"We should go get our stuff for school." intervened Ginny trying to break the tension.
The mention of school immediately lifted Hermione's spirits as Ron's appeared to have plummeted and the group disapparated in Diagon Alley and landed right outside George's joke shop.
"Thank God we got our licenses yesterday." exclaimed Ron. "I couldnt go another day with my mother complaining about illegal apparition. There's bloody death eaters on the loose and she thinks the ministry is gonna care about apparating without a license?"
Harry agreed. He had to admit that the license certainly made travel loads easier, but after apparating a year without a license, he found the fact that he had to take a test foolish.
The group entered Weasley's Wizard Wheezes to notice that once again George's business was booming. Hogwarts students were attempting to load up on nose bleed nougut and puking pastilles before school started. Although banned, Hogwarts students had a nack for sneaking in illegal contraband.
Ron immediately asked Lee Jordan who was helping George at the shop where the Weasley twin was. Lee pointed to a spot behind the counter and Ron disappeared after his brother.
Harry, Ginny and Hermione remained squeezed into the overcrowded shop for a half hour as Ron remained deep in conversation with George. Finally, Hermione got frustrated and yelled to Ron that they were leaving to pick up their school supplies. Ron waved them on without turning around and the group headed out or the store. Harry noticed the audible grunt that Hermione made as the exited the shop.
"I swear that boy is so selfish sometimes." said Hermione in a frustrated voice. "I haven't been with him in a week and he wants to spend all of his time with his brother fine. I just thought he would learn after he abandoned us in the forest."
"I cant believe he did that!" cut in Ginny. Harry was glad that he wouldn't have to participate in the discussion about Harry's best friend. Harry knew that Ginny and Hermione would have plenty of material without Harry butting in. Harry used this time to wonder about Sirius' diary. "Why would anyone ask their diary how they were?" he questioned to himself. Swearing to himself that he would study the diary further, he pulled his mind back into the girls' conversation.
"...I just wish he wasn't so much of a git and showed he cared about me sometimes." finished Hermione. Ginny nodded.
Fortunately for Harry, he didn't need to buy any more textbooks. All he needed was to restock on potion supplies, get fitted for some new robes and most importantly get a new racing broom.
The girls stopped at Quality Quidditch Supplies and let Harry enter the shop while the other two went to Flourish and Blotts to get text books they needed. Harry noticed the look of longing in Ginny's eyes as she looked at the window display of the Quidditch shop.
Harry entered the store with the full realization that he was not going to be able to buy another Firebolt. He planned on buying a house some day and he was hoping to save as much money in Gringotts as possible. But Hermione's words kept ringing in Harry's head..."I just wish he wasn't so much of a git and showed he cared about me sometimes."
Harry realized he never really got Ginny a proper coming of age present and realized that this was his chance to proove that he truly cared. Harry went over to a pair of Nimbus 2000s. The broom was trustworthy to Harry in his early days and it would certainly blow the pants of Ginny's old Comet 260 that used to be Fred's. "If Ginny moved so well on a Comet she would really fly on a Nimbus," thought Harry. Since he was resuming his position as Captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team, he couldn't wait to see how Ginny would tear up the competition with the new broom.
Harry left Quality Quidditch Supplies and rushed over to Flourish and Blotts. THe store was packed so he waited outside for Ginny and Hermione. Harry immediately noticed Ginny's hair and hid the extra Nimbus behind his back.
Ginny walked over suspiciously, "What you get?" she asked eyeing him.
"Well there was a problem at the store." smiled Harry. "I asked for one Nimbus 2000 and they accidently gave me two so..."
"You didnt!" shouted Ginny and she wrapped her arms around him.
"I just wanted to give you a proper birthday present." said Harry.
"You didnt have to." returned Ginny.
"Of course I did. I wanted you to know i truly care."
The couple smiled at one another and Ginny pecked Harry on the lips. Harry and Ginny rejoined Hermione who was looking sour and the group walked back to Weasley's Wizard Wheezes hoping to run into Ron. When they arrived at the store they realized he hadn't left the spot he was in when they left the store.
"Really Ron?" Shouted Hermione over the roar of the crowd. "We have all our things and you still havent started."
"Dont worry," replied Ron happily. "Im coming back tomorrow to help out George and Lee. I can shop then."
Hermione looked annoyed but Ron's smile seemed to soften up her personality a bit.
The group apparated home. Hermione said her good byes and told them how she couldn't wait to see them all on the Hogwarts express. The Weasley family and Harry ate another hearty meal prepared by Mrs. Weasley and slowly but surely, the red headed family trudged up the stairs to go to bed.
Only Harry and Ron remained in the sitting room talking about how the Chudley Cannons were likely to have another abysmal year. The sitting room was warm with the fire and Harry was exhausted after the busy day and giant meal.
Right before Harry dozed off Ron said, "Harry, er, I have to tell you something."
"Yeah?"
"Im not going back to Hogwarts."

bronxbomber120 August 29th, 2009, 7:48 am Chapter 3: The Dog Days
Harry woke up the next morning and was relieved that although he was still having dreams of the previous events of the past 7 years, the dreams were becoming patchy. He realized that he was right all along and that his brain was finally settling down after the horrific ordeals of his life.
This however only occupied Harry thoughts for an instant. He hadn't discussed about what Ron said. Harry was so tired last night that for a moment he thought it had all been in his mind, but he convinced himself that it must of happened since he remembers trudging up the stairs after Ron told him.
Harry turned to Ron's bed, but he soon noticed that it was empty. Harry remembered what Ron said about helping out George today and wondered if Ron's conversation with George had anything to do with Ron's decision to skip his final year at school.
Harry walked down the stairs to see Ginny sitting at her usual spot on the table and was pleasantly surprised by the fact that Mr. Weasley and Percy finally got a Sunday off. Harry reconed they could use the rest.
"Morning Harry," said Ginny brightly.
"Morning," said Harry in the tone of voice that insinuated that he planned on speaking with her after breakfast.
Ginny looked over with concern, but Harry smiled to reassure her that nothing was dreadfully wrong. Harry noticed that once again Mr. Weasley and Percy were debating about the situation at Durmstrang and Mrs. Weasley was becoming flustered at how her family continued to work even on their days off. But before Mrs. Weasley could say anything, Percy turned to Harry and said, "They've gotten Umbridge. Five years for the abuse of muggle borns and half breeds."
Percy averted his eyes when he said this. Harry knew that Percy regretted how he acted during the ministry's reign of terror, and Harry knew how difficult it was for Percy to mention the imprisonment of a person that Percy so feverishly supported during Harry's fifth year.
"Bout time," said Harry.
"Not enough time in my opinion," added Ginny as she put her hand on top of Harry's scarred one.
"Well they would if there was any room left in Azkaban." said Mr. Weasley. "With all the Death Eaters were catching, and with the state the prison is in, it's becoming difficult to fit all those who took advantage during the past year."
"And the Malfoys," Harry added curiously.
"They'll walk," scowled Mr. Weasley. "They have a tendency to weedle their way out of things. But with the Dark Lord gone for good, I'm sure they should behave themselves for the most part."
Harry couldnt help but wonder if Draco was going to be a little nicer after Harry saved his life. After his year of absence in Slytherin, Draco's friends kind of abandoned him. Maybe Draco turned a new leaf, but Harry doubted it.
After breakfast Harry and Ginny slipped into the garden where Harry could tell her what was happening without the intruding ears of Mrs. Weasley.
"Ron's not going back to school," said Harry breathlessly, relieved that he could finally tell someone.
"I knew it," exclaimed Ginny. "I knew he would chicken out of school. Poor Hermione. All she gets is grief from him. I wonder how in the name of Merlin's saggy left..."
"I know," interrupted Harry before Ginny could speak. "I know how Hermione is gonna act too. She's going to be broken. He's been so distant ever since they first got together and now this is happening. Maybe we should convince George not to hire him. I mean if he plans on remaining with her."
The discussion remained at that for the rest of evening. Both Harry and Ginny knew they wouldn't be able to persuade Ron otherwise. Either Hemione would have to do something drastic or George would have to not take him on. But even that seemed like a bad idea. Harry and Ginny knew how tough it must be for George running the shop alone. However, they consented that Lee should be sufficient enough to help with the shop. Lee was almost always present with Fred and George even when they were first starting up the shop.
Ron didnt come home until around dinner time with George right behind him. Ron looked exhausted but George was beaming. Harry knew how happy George was with his brother helping and it broke Harry up to be so selfish with Ron. "Do it for Hermione," he thought to himself even though he knew he wanted his friend back at school as much as Ron's girlfriend did.
Harry noticed how Ginny glared at Ron when he entered. Ron appeared to not notice the gaze and shoveled down yet another deliciously prepared meal by Mrs. Weasley. Claiming to be overworked Ron headed straight to bed. Harry wasnt going to allow Ron to get away that easily. He followed his friend up the stairs and joined Ron in the room they shared.
"Ron we gotta talk." said Harry as convinvingly as he could muster.
"I figured thats why you followed me." returned Ron sounding rather annoyed.
"Look I understand you dont want to go back to school and I'm sure you love working at George's shop but think of Hermione. You have already been getting under her skin. If you do this you two will be broken." said Harry although his argument appeared shallow.
"Look it doesnt matter anyway," replied Ron moodily. "George wont take me. He said I can work with him for the rest of the summer, but he said I was one of the smarter ones and that I should finish up school. Probably the nicest thing he's ever said to me." Ron added with a smile.
"And look i know your right," continued Ron. "I've been a git with Hermione. You think I would learn after ditching you two." Harry grinned. "But I guess i hafta go back. I dont like the idea of more school but at least I have you guys. Now lemme sleep. George worked me like a horse."
Harry was glad it was settled, but Ron chose a hell of a day to decide to go back. Only two days were left in summer before the Hogwarts express left from Platform nine and three quarters.
Harry talked comfortably with the other Weasleys. After returning down stairs he whispered quickly into Ginny's ear,"He's back in." The rest of the night remained uneventful and it wasn't until Harry returned to his room did he realize that he had forgotten to examine the diary that he swore to himself that he would investigate.
Harry searched through his rucksack until he finally found the small black leather bound book. He pulled it out and opened it examining the pages. He saw the words on the first page again and browsed the rest. To his surprise it was entirely blank. The whole episode seemed remarkably familiar to Tom Riddle's diary but after making sure that it was his Godfather's by checking the cover, he dismissed this suspicion. However, he still couldnt get over the idea of why Sirius would get a diary and not right anything but a single question. And it appeared as if someone asked how he was already. I'm fine. How are you? Harry read over the sentence again.
Harry, coming up with no further ideas, decided to write in the diary. He opened it and was about to write his name, but judging by the books suspiciousness he wrote "I'm Ronald Weasley."
Nothing happened. The ink remained where it was written right below the answer and questioned proposed by Sirius.
Harry, disappointed, put the book away and returned to bed. It must have been just a diary after all.
short chapter I know. But hogwarts starts tomorrow and I've got a couple of new ideas.
bronxbomber120 August 30th, 2009, 7:27 am Chapter 4: The Final Return
Harry dressed quickly and realized that he had just had his first dreamless sleep in what seemed like ages. Although, he realized that he might not of had enough sleep to even dream. Mrs. Weasley, determined to be on time for once, woke up the boys and Ginny before the sun rose. This didnt phase Ron however who fell straight back to sleep as soon as Mrs. Weasley left the boys' room.
After much shouting, Ron grudgingly changed and almost fell down the stairs after Harry and Ginny. They all shared a quick breakfast of eggs and toast and went straight out the door where they all could apparate straight to the platform.
When Harry arrived he noticed something he wasnt used to, the platform was almost entirely empty. He looked immediately to the station clock to realize they apparated an hour and a half early and the train wasnt to arrive for another half hour.
Ron took advantage of their early arrival by finding an abandoned corner and settled decided to take a nap using his trunk as an uncomfortable pillow. Harry was unsurprised when he saw Luna meandering on the other end of the platform.
Harry and Ginny walked over to join Luna. "Mollywoffles must have got him." said Luna airily as she looked over to Ron. "They're very common during the morning and they always cause drowsiness."
Harry couldnt help but think that these creatures sound very similar to a case of a bad night's rest.
The group waited on the platform observing the students slowly beginning to crowd the platform. Almost every single student that passed Harry gazed open mouthed at Harry. Some were brave enough to say hi and those he knew came over to talk to him. Soon Ginny Harry and Luna were surrounded by dozens of 6th 7th and the 8th years that decided to return to Hogwarts. Everyone wanted to wish him well. Some expected him to tell them the story of a new adventure he had over the summer and when his disappointed listeners learned he did nothing of note, asked him the story of what he did last year in response to which he shook his head and said, "not here, not now."
Slowly the admirers dispersed still talking adamently about what they personally thought Harry was up to last year. Harry was pleased to see that Neville stayed behind with Luna and Ginny and somehow Ron woke up and found his way through the crowd.
"You have to tell us one day, Harry" said Neville eagerly.
"I will, Neville," Harry responded. "We can have story time in the Gryffindor common room if you like but it's too early to recollect 7 years of variable hell."
Harry tried to say it lightly but couldnt help to sound a little stand offish. Neville apologized which Harry dismissed immediately by saying, "It was all worth it."
Neville smiled and walked off with Luna leaving Ginny Harry and Ron behind. Soon Hermione came racing over and wrapped her arms around Ron showering him in kisses. "Thank you, Ron!" she exclaimed. "I know you didnt want to come back but it means so much to me that you did."
Harry decided not to mention that George wouldnt let Ron work at the shop which had alot to do with Ron returning to Hogwarts, but Harry knew that Ron truly was happy to be able to spend more time with Hermione even if he was terrible at showing it.
"We better get on the train," said Harry attempting to split apart Ron and Hermione. "It should be leaving soon."
Harry jumped onto the first step of the train when he noticed a pointed face with light blonde hair. Harry was incredibly surprised to see Draco returning to Hogwarts. Harry did overhear how Draco would have preferred to go to Durmstrang over Hogwarts two years ago on the Hogwarts express, but Harry reasoned that Draco might just be trying to avoid prison by acting like an innocent students. But then Draco did something uncharacteristic. He caught Harry's eye contact then noded curtly.
Harry tripped up the last two steps rather stunned. He dragged his trunk and threw it into one of the compartments taking a seat with Ginny Neville and Luna. Ron and Hermione were up front with the prefects.
Harry didnt even realize that Neville was talking to him he was so deep in thought about Draco. Harry reasoned that Draco had either had a change of heart or he was just acting nicely as a guise but Harry couldnt see why Draco would ever pretend to be nice. The former made much more sense. Harry did save him after all.
"Harry?" said Neville waving a hand in front of Harry's face.
Harry shook with a start. "Sorry I was just thinking about Malfoy. He noded to me right before I entered the train. He must of had a change of heart after I saved him."
Neville looked unconvinced. Harry knew how much Draco tortured Neville and Neville certainly didnt want to admit it if Draco had a change for the better.
The foursome spent most of the ride talking of their summers. Harry couldnt help but see Neville wink at him when Ginny laid down on Harry's lap. Luna quickly mentioned the Quibbler and how her father asks for Harry's forgiveness for the fact that Xenophilius attempted to turn Harry in last year. Harry said he understood. Luna was in camptivity after all.
The train was beginning to close in on the school. The group changed into their school robes looking foward to the opening feast and what they hoped would be a relatively uneventful school year.
Harry heard screams. He threw open the compartment door and glared down the aisle both ways just to see more heads popping out and looking around. He saw Ron and Hermione sprinting towards him.
They both ran into the compartment breathless. Then Ron blurted out, "The Dark Mark."
The group crowded around the window and saw the skull with the snake from its mouth over the train.
"Is anyone hurt," asked Harry quickly removing his wand from his robes.
"We dont know." returned Hermione looking frightened. "We werent the ones who saw it first. We heard screams and when we went to investigate we looked out the window and saw it."
Some students crammed the aisle wands drawn believing they could out duel the Death Eaters. Most stayed in their compartments talking in hushed voices praying that no one was hurt. The train began to slow down and as soon as it pulled into the station, students poured out.
On the platform the entire school staff stood. Students were sprinting to the horseless carriages wanting to get as far from the train as possible. Those who were delayed were able to hear Professor McGonnagal who magically magnified her voice, "Students please proceed to the carriages. First years follow Hagrid to the boats. All will be explained when we reach the Great Hall."
Harry joined Ginny, Ron, and Hermione in one of the wagons. Harry couldnt help but notice that Ginny was staying uncharacteristically close to Harry. He knew that the last thing she wanted was for him to get himself killed after the greatest threat to the wizarding world was already defeated.
The group ascended to the castle in silence. Worried about who it could possibly be, and Harry couldnt help but think, "Will there ever be peace while I'm at Hogwarts?"
another short chapter but i got alot to write about now that the gangs at the school. The main conflict will emerge soon.

bronxbomber120 August 31st, 2009, 6:54 am Chapter 5: The Exchange Student
The Great Hall filled with students. Harry took his place next to Hermione and Ron at the Gryffindor table and realized that the other students were doing the same at their respected tables. The first years however were caught in limbo. Being a member of no house yet they didnt know where to sit. If it wasnt hard enough that it was their first day of school they might have just been present for a murder.
"Dont say that!" Harry thought to himself. Soon Professor McGonnagal entered the Great Hall and raised her hands. The room hushed immediately.
"Fortunately," the headmistress said sounding rather relieved, "not a single student is missing. All have been accounted for. The Dark Mark must have been a scare tactic and nothing more.
"I would think," McGonnagal added with a curt smile, "that the Death Eaters would be wary to attack a train filled with those who brought down their master."
The whole Hall erupted with applause. Harry even glanced at the Slytherin table and saw the whole table applauding, just not as passionately. Draco, however, seemed very enthused, and he clapped full heartedly next to Blaise Zabini who appeared to be the only Slytherin 8th year to return.
Professor McGonnagal raised her hands for silence again and the Hall quieted. "But we have wasted enough time on talk," said McGonnagal, "Let the sorting begin."
The caretaker Filch carried a stool and what bearly resembled a hat anymore. It was burned and withered but, as Harry was about to notice, still singing.
Long ago when I was made
The school had just begun
Such friendships that could never fade
The founders four were one.
Their common goal to teach them all
Every wizard and witch
A plan they thought could never fall
And it started without a hitch.
But soon the founders fell away
their friendships were divided
And although teachers they would stay
Their pupils were divided.
To Slytherin he took the pure, self-serving and the cunning
To Ravenclaw she took the wise whose minds were always running
To Gryffindor he took the brave whose deeds would live forever
To Hufflepuff she took the rest and treat them different? Never.
Many, many years from then
We were once again divided
Against difficulties once again
And many had decided
To take the easy path and run
And hoped the others would prevail
But many more had stayed behind
To make sure that as united they could not fail.
Together thus the Dark Lord fell
And the school celebrated as one
And years from now we all shall tell
Of the darkness being undone.
So once again I will choose
As to which house you shall go to.
But remember students you will lose
If you deny the school its due.
The whole Hall broke into applause again. Harry figured the hat would sing something along those lines. In his fifth year it warned of division and this year it complimented them on staying together but to never remain complacent. Harry finally came to when he heard the name, "Andre Alpiner."
Andre went to Ravenclaw, but no one seemed to be looking in his direction. Even Ravenclaw house bearly remembered to clap because the entire hall's attention was focused on a 6 foot student who was rather handsome and located towards the front of the line along with the other first years. He looked absolutely rediculous towering over the first years.
Very soon no one in the hall was paying attention at all to the sorting. Harry noticed that very few claps occured when the first years were picked for their respected houses. Finally, the six foot tall student stood at the front of the line and the name "John Pendragon" was called to the sorting hat.
The boy casually walked to the hat looking rather calm compared to the worried faces of the other first years in line. He then sat and placed the hat on his head. The seconds ticked by. Harry hadnt been to many sortings but he had rarely seen the sorting hat take so long. THe only time he remembered the wait being remotely as close was when the hat was on Harry himself. After what appeared to be a life time the har called "Gyffindor!"
The Gryffindor table applauded enthusiastically although Harry didnt know why. The house just got the worlds tallest first year. But John didnt move. He clearly took the hat off looked straight at it and said, "you sure?"
The whole Hall was silent with the exception of a few giggles. "Quite sure," responded the hat.
"Alright, your the expert." And John sat down by Neville and Dean who both decided to return for an 8th year. Harry saw the new student shake hands with Dean and noticed now John shook Neville's hand rather enthusiastically.
The rest of the sorting went rather quickly and without incident. Finally, after the final name "Maximus Zarou" was read, the food magically appeared on the tables and the feast began.
Immediately the Gryffindor table exploded with questions for their new six foot first year. The first of which he answered was that he was to be attending seventh year classes. Upon this most of the fifth and sixth years lost interest noting that they wouldnt be attending any classes with him.
John continued to talk with Neville and Dean. Harry couldnt help but hear the new student complimenting Neville on how he stood up to the Death Eaters at the school last year. Harry found this incredibly odd by the fact that John had just recently disclosed that he was an exchange students from the United States and would have no business whatsoever knowing what Neville did the previous year.
"I know I recognize that name," said Hermione fervently.
"Why would you?" said Ron a little defensively. "Are there many books about seventeen year old exchange students from america. Maybe he was just named after someone famous."
"Maybe," responded Hermione unconvinced. Harry was well aware that she would go to the library and look him up the first chance she got.
Ron, looking a little threatened, continued to shovel his face full of whatever food he could get his hands on that moment.
While Hermione began to talk to Ginny about the classes they would be taking together now that they were in the same year, Harry continued to evesdrop on their new classmate.
"...I was really hoping to get here last year," John was saying. "Voldemore isnt necessary feared across the pond but you could bet he was sending Death Eaters to recruit us. That's how I found out about you Neville. Two Death Eaters were trying to recruit me and they came upon the subject about a Neville Longbottom who was causing hell at Hogwarts. At the time I was so desperate for imformation about Harry Potter that I was considering joining them to get to England. It's too bad last year was his last."
"Well it was supposed to be," said Neville. "It was supposed to be mine and Dean's too, but they allowed seventh years to return for one more year to pass out N.E.W.Ts."
"So that means..."
"That Harry Potter is sitting just down the bench."
Harry turned his head immediately pretending to be engrossed in his food when he felt a tap on the shoulder and a polite voice saying "excuse me."
Harry saw John who loked even more handsome now that he was closer to Harry. "Your Harry Potter!" John exclaimed. "It's truly incredible to meet you! You have no idea how badly I wanted to help your cause last year. AMerica wasnt too keen on getting involved with Voldemort, but I was trying my best to learn everything I could. I would of came but being underage i dont think I could have been much help with this "trace" your ministry has." John's voice was racing.
"I'm sorry I havent introduced myself." John replied after catching his breath. "John Pendragon. Its been a pleasure meeting you. I'll leave you alone now since I could tell you're busy with your friends."
John took his seat and Harry turned back around. THe whole meeting was incredibly bizarre. The new student didnt even allow Harry to speak but Harry didnt mind. Harry was used to many obscure people recognizing him but John seemed sincerely different. The fact that the boy tried so hard to learn about a situation that bearly concerned him made Harry feel a slight twinge of respect for the new student. Ron however, didnt look emused.
"Just another admirer," Ron said sarcastically with a smile.
"Oh, stuff it." Harry replied.
Ron gave a hearty chuckle and Harry quickly changed the subject to Qudditch.
"You sure you want to be mocking the captain before you make the team." Harry said jokingly.
"Abusing your power I see." Ron returned quickly. "Maybe I'll report you to McGonnagal and she'll make me captain.
Both Harry and Ron laughed, but once again were interrupted by the new student John.
"So your the captain of the Quidditch team," said John much more casually. "You know when sign ups are yet."
"Er, Havent really though about it yet." Harry responded quickly. "Probably within the next two weeks. I'm hoping to get started early. We have a good team coming back.
"Well I'll be going out for Chaser." John said confidently.
"I thought Americans thought Quidditch was a joke." Ron stated.
"Most do. But my father is English and absolutely loved the sport. Practically raised me on it my entire life. Always wondered why he went to America in the first place." This statement was directed at himself and neither to Harry or Ron, but Harry couldnt help but agree with John. Why would a man who loved Quidditch moved to america and then send his kid to Hogwarts? Harry was sure there must have been more important factors but with what Harry had at the time, it seemed odd.
During the boys' discussion on Quidditch, Hermione was observing John carefully. After their discussion on Quidditch seemed to dry out Hermione interrupted, "I know you!" Hermione exclaimed. "They call you america's Dumbledore."
John blushed at the accusation, but Harry wondered why someone as young as John would be compared to Dumbledore.
"He found the twelve uses of Dragons Blood forty years after Dumbledore did," Hermione explained.
"And I regret that very much," John said aggressively but calmly. "If I knew that Dumbledore had already made such a discovery I wouldnt have wasted my time, but the English ministry has always had a passion for keeping important magical advances from the United States. It was very nice meeting all of you. Have a good night and enjoy the meal."
John took his place back with Neville and Dean.
"What's got under his skin," said Ron finally leaning back from his plate.
"Come on Ron, imagine you thought you made a serious magical breakthrough and you find out your forty years too late," Hermione said understandingly.
"Dont have to worry about that." Ron returned. "When am I gonna make any sort of magical discovery.
Ron smiled and both Harry and Hermione laughed.
Finally the meal had ended. Harry felt exhausted from the days events and was looking foward greatly to his four poster bed in the boys' dormitory. However, Professor Mcgonnagal went to the podium for a few more brief words.
"All students are to be warned that the Forbidden Forest is, well, forbidden. Also, any Weasley Wizard Wheezes products are banned from the castle. Lastly, I would like to remember those who died defending this castle last year. Their lives will never be forgotten and we are all eternally grateful." The headmistress was silent for a second and then continued. "I wish you all good luck on your new year. You are dismissed to your dormitories."
Ron told Harry the password and then left to lead the first years to the common room. Harry raced up the stairs with Ginny after saying goodnight to both Ron and Hermione. The couple entered the common room together, and after a quick goodnight kiss, they departed to their separate dormitories.
Harry noticed the Eight Year dormitory had four bunks. Seamus Finnigan would not be returning much to the dissatisfation of Dean, but Harry seemed content that Dean found a good friend in John Pendragon.
Harry lied down in his four poster bed, and shortly after his head hit the pillow, he fell asleep.

ch 6: Hermione's Competition
The first day of classes was as unappetizing as one of Hagrid's rock cakes. harry was so excited to be back in the castle that he totally forgot that learning takes place within its walls. So Harry trudged down the stairs after he woke up Ron, which was extraordinarily difficult. Harry was pretty sure that he could hear Ron's regrets about returning as they fumbled out of the common room to head down for breakfast.
As they approached the Gryffindor table, the duo realized that the new student, John, had already attracted a following. All of the Gryffindor6th and 7th years were surrounding him and were listening intently to every word that came from his mouth. Harry also noticed that a decent amount of Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs were eyeing the Gryffindor girls with jealousy. As the two of them took seats beside Hermione and Ginny, they both noticed that Hermione looked extremely put off.
"What's with the face," said Ron grumpily. It still seemed that he blamed Hermione for him being awake so early in the morning.
"It's that new boy. All the girls are so fond of him so it's impossible to have a word with him. I mean if he's as brilliant as they say he is..."
"You cant be serious?" said Ron with disbelief. "Are you honestly insinuating that someone is even remotely close to your intelligence level?"
Hermione stared him down but Harry knew that she wasn't nearly as mad as she was pretending to look. The tactic worked however and Ron backed off.
"It's just Dumbledore was so brilliant and if a student no older than 18 found out something that took Dumbledore years, i want to talk to him. He could know so much."
Hermione's words of admiration were starting to bother Ron.
"Look Hermione. He clearly doesnt know as much as us. Why else would he be going to school in England. Those American wizards could barely compete with our 2nd years. He just got lucky is all."
"okay," said Hermione sounding rather unconvinced. But she didnt have any more time to press the issue because they had to head to transfiguration classes which were surprisingly still taught by Professor McGonagal.
"We unfortunately haven't been able to find a suitable replacement for my post as Transfigurations teacher, so i will be serving as both your headmistress and teacher. Please make my job easier and study."
Her last statement sounded as more of a command than a request. Harry knew very well not to disagree with Professor McGonagall and he didnt plan on changing that this year. He needed to do well in Transfiguration if he had a chance at being an Auror, no matter how many times Rob insisted, "you beat Lord Voldemore, clearly you could beat any other git they throw your way."
Harry couldn't help but notice that John Pendragon decided to take the seat closest to the front and looked even more eager than Hermione to begin. The Professor started with review which was good for Harry and Ron because they had done nothing related to Transfiguration since their 6th years. After many failed attempts to turn a rat into an ornate box, Harry noticed that not only did John succeed in making an exceptionally beautiful box, but he also outdid Hermione which won him very gratifying looks from Professor McGonagall as well as 10 points.
Hermione looked as if she was going to explode. Harry heard her mutter "if only i could talk to him" under her breath and realized that she wanted nothing less than a private lesson from the kid. However, in a show of pure bravado, John turned the professor's desk into a motorcycle, which although very impressive, lost the 10 points he had just earned.
However, the damage was done. All the girls in the class looked at him with even more admiration than when they talked to him at the table. Even Ginny looked at John a little differently except Harry wasnt quite sure what kind of look it was. And McGonagall, although a bit disturbed, seemed genuinely impressed with his handiwork even if it was the wrong time to display it.
The glass ended soon after John's display and Hermione stormed out of the class quickly.
"I guess that's my cue," mumbled Ron miserably and he chased after her.
"That was pretty impressive," Ginny said to Harry.
Harry, not wanting to look jealous just agreed silently. To his displeasure however, John once again approached Harry.
"You know the time for Quidditch try outs yet?" questioned John
"I guess we'll start Saturday morning." Harry responded curtly.
"Excellent! See you then." and John left down the hall followed by what seemed to be fourteen girls.
"You seem fond of him." Ginny said sarcastically as Harry watched the back of John's head disappear around the corner.
"I dont know what it is." responded Harry. "He's the nicest kid in the world to me. He even has an immense amount of respect for me, but he just bothers me."
Ginny tried to stifle a laugh but it didnt work. Harry gave her a questioning look and she replied, "Well it's obvious." Harry kept looking to inform her that it clearly wasn't obvious to him. "He's too good at everything. He's topped Hermione in smarts. He's better looking than Cedric Diggory, and he's foreign." Harry facial expressions clearly told Ginny that he wasn't too fond of her calling anyone good looking besides Harry. "You better watch yourself," she added. "If youre not careful he may even top you in Quidditch."
Harry had to smile as he responded, "Now that's not possible." Although Harry wasn't as confident as tried to sound. This kid really did seem to have everything.
The day went on with much more of the same. They went from class to class and in each one John did something more incredible that practically had Hermione tearing out her hair. All Ron could do was pat her consolingly which Professor Flitwick wasn't too pleased about.
Finally, after what seemed to be an eternity, the four of them trudged up to the common room with a truckload of homework and no time to do it. Ron simply resigned the fact that he would get anything done and went straight to bed despite Hermione's protests. Harry, Ginny and Hermione stayed up a while and did some work. Ginny learned quickly just how much an asset Hermione was regarding homework and was taking advantage of it. Finally the two girls went upstairs and left Harry with his thoughts.
Harry however wasnt tired. He went upstairs and debated sleep, but then remembered the diary. He dug through his trunk and found the diary with his Godfather's name boldly enscribed on the cover. But when Harry opened it he saw something peculiar. Instead of the two lines of text that were there the last time Harry opened the book, there were three in stead. Under Harry's first entry followed a new one with messy scrawled writing. The reply was, "Hello Ronald. I am Martin Koslov. I'm a student at Durmstrang."

bronxbomber120 July 21st, 2010, 5:25 am Harry was in shock. He had no idea what to do. This reminded him too much of his second year, and he refused to trust anything, especially a book. Harry decided quickly that he would certainly not respond. The last thing he needed was some death eater in disguise to steal his soul like Voldemort almost did to Ginny.
"I'll just hide it in the room of requirement," Harry reasoned with himself. "No, one will find it there." And then Harry Potter let the issue slip from his conscience as he went to sleep.
"it's gross out," exclaimed Ginny as she trudged onto the pitch with Harry. Harry had decided to hold the tryouts at 8 a.m. hoping that the people who had no chance of making the team wouldn't show up. It didnt have the effect he had hoped.
Quite literally the entire Gryffindor house decided they wanted to try out for Quidditch this year. Except Harry noticed that a good portion of them didnt even own brooms. It wasn't until Neville Longbottom came up to him did Harry realized that the entire house still wanted to hear the whole story from last year.
"Alright!," yelled Harry over the crowd. "If anyone is a first year or doesn't own a broom please leave. You're taking up all the space!" No one moved so Harry thought it appropriate to add. "If you want to hear about last year i'll tell you all tonight. As long as you're at least a 3rd year. I'm sorry but some details are too gruesome for younger ears and i wont allow it."
This appeared to work as about two thirds of the crowd cleared to leave at least forty Gryffindors who were ready to play for the team. Unsurprisingly, Harry noticed John towering over the second and third years.
Harry stuck with the routine drills. He began with basic flying, which widdled the group in half. Harry was immensely impressed to see that John out flew Ginny even though he was flying on a Comet 290 which is relatively slower than the Nimbus 2000. Ginny, however, didnt seem too pleased about this, and in her anger she nearly flew head first into the middle hoop of the pitch.
As the tryouts continued, it became increasingly obvious that John was being modest about his skills. He was incredible. Even after Ginny threw him an awful pass (Harry suspected on purpose), John leaped off his broomstick, sailed over Ron and slammed the Quaffle into the middle ring. He then fell onto his broom stick and acted as if nothing happened. Harry laughed as he stared at Ron who was clearly in a state of disbelief.
At the end of the tryouts Harry had no doubts that this year would be an absolute joke. The Gryffindor team was so good that Harry was confident he wouldn't even need a third chaser. Peakes and Coote came back as Beaters and were shaping up to be pretty quality players. Ron was relatively unopposed for the Keeper position and therefore played extraordinarily well, except against John Pendragon. Harry had never seen a player move like he did. He made shots with pinpoint accuracy, and more often than not, he took these shots while jumping off his broom.
These sort of acrobatics infuriated Ginny who clearly made the squad as the second seeker. Demelza Robbins came back as the third Chaser even though Harry knew pretty well that John could probably win a game by himself.
The walk back to the common room wasn't pretty. John couldn't stop talking about how he loved the teams chances for the cup, and complemented Harry on how well he moved on his broom. What Harry couldn't understand is why a player of John's caliber never even mentioned himself. The kid made almost every shot and yet he was as humble as ever.
In the corner of his eye he noticed that Ginny was staring at the ground as she walked. Harry was sure that if she was given an opportunity, she would explode on John, but John refused to make any mistakes.
As they approached the main hall, John finally left their presence saying he had to help Professor Flitwick with something. Harry was so relieved that he didnt even pay attention to what John said he was helping Flitwick with.
"How does he do that!" shouted an exasperated Ginny for having to hold this statement in for so long.
"What?" replied Harry stupidly.
"All of it! He moves better than some professional Chasers, and his moves are completely unprecedented. I have never seen a Chaser leave his broom so often."
At this remark Ron decided to join the conversation. "Your mad at that? How do you think i am? i had to stop all that nonsense."
"Yes but you're not competing with him. I had to keep up with that."
Harry wanted to remind Ginny that there were three Chaser spots but decided it was best not to interfere when his girlfriend was in a bad mood.
The three finally made it to the common room to find Hermione, unsurprisingly, buried in a book.
"He's got under your skin too," said Harry immediately realizing that she was studying to keep up with John.
"Oh no," Hermione replied. It seemed as though she was completely absorbed in her studies.
Harry decided it was best not to annoy her. Ginny and Ron were also too exhausted after the tryouts and both decided to take a nap. This gave Harry the opportunity to get rid of the diary.
Harry leaped up the steps and crept into the room so he didnt wake up Ron. He buried the diary in his robes and left out the portrait hole and headed straight for the seventh floor. Harry was happy not to run into anyone until he reached the bare stretch of stone wall and thought, "i need a place to hide something," three times.
Immediately a door appeared out of no where and Harry crept in. Harry closed the door behind him and as soon as he turned his head to look forward he found someone he did not expect, Draco Malfoy.
Malfoy laughed. "Honestly Potter you're the only person i would ever expect to find in here."
Harry noticed that there was no malice in Draco's voice. If anything, it seemed as if Draco was joking around.
"I was just remembering our 6th year," continued Draco. "It all could have been different."
Harry knew that Draco was referring to how Draco let Death Eaters into the school using this very room, the night of Dumbledore's assassination.
"It wasn't your fault," Harry interrupted. Draco turned his eyes to Harry. "Voldemort has powers we can only dream of, and besides, Dumbledore was dying anyway.'
This bit of news startled Draco, so Harry decided to continue. "He was already cursed. Snape's spell hastened his death, but he was going to die anyway. He actually told Snape to do the deed, to save you the guilt."
Then Harry saw something he wouldnt expect, tears. Draco was crying silent tears. At first Harry was confused. Why should he be sad? He has been vindicated. But then Harry realized what it was, relief. Malfoy leaned against the wall appearing overwhelmed. Harry never could have thought that Draco would fell guilt over the death of Dumbledore, a man who he continually ridiculed.
Malfoy dried his eyes and turned to Harry. "Thank you," he said simply and put out his hand. Harry shook it. He knew that the two of them could never be friends, but he realized that Draco had turned a new leaf and the two could coexist in peace.
When Malfoy exited the room, Harry found a nice spot that no one would ever look for the diary. He reasoned that he would never be tempted to find the book and left it. He exited the room and headed back to the Gryffindor common room. Ron and Ginny were awake, Hermione gave up on studying (after many taunts from Ron) and the group went down to the grounds to enjoy the sun and have a cup of tea at Hagrid's.

The trees were almost bare, and the wind was starting to contain a bite as Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny walked back from Hagrid's house on a frigid November Saturday.
Harry decided that he would give Malfoy some undeserved respect by keeping the incident in the room of requirement quiet. Harry did not understand why he felt a twinge of guilt every time he was about to tell Ron, Hermione and Ginny about what he saw out of Malfoy that day. Whatever it was, it was successfully preventing Harry from confiding in his friends which was probably the first time he hadn't kept them in the loop since detention with Delores.
What Harry couldn't ignore was the buzz about Durmstrang. That morning the great hall was flooded with newspapers and letters that contained news about the other wizarding school in Europe. However, the only news that Harry could obtain was vague at best. All the Daily Prophet said was that Kakaroff had been sacked and that a new head master was appointed by the name of Josef Murphenmark, but this individual was completely unknown to all reliable resources in the wizarding world. Even the Prophet had no real idea who this guy was.
The students however, were not relying on the Prophet for their information. Due to the mass amounts of private letters, and the fact that it was after all Hogwarts, there were at least a thousand different theories about what was going on at Durmstrang. The more gruesome the rumors, the more unsettled Harry became. He knew that he had a goldmine of information stored safely in the Room of Requirement, but he knew too well than to retrieve what could be a dangerous book. So he tried desperately to put it out of his mind but watching the way Ginny's long flowing hair swung from side to side as she followed the path to the main hall. Unfortunately, this did not succeed in putting the thought of the diary out of his head. Harry decided that it was about time his friends knew. He didnt want to worry them, but he realized that this information was too important to be overlooked.
"I know where we can find some info on Durmstrang," Harry blurted out while interrupting Ginny and receiving shocked stares by his other friends.
"Spit it out!" exclaimed Ginny rudely, clearly put off by Harry's interruption.
"Well i was looking through Sirius' old stuff now that it is technically mine and i had time to look," They were all looking at him as if to say "get to the point." So Harry continued, "and i found this diary that belonged to Sirius'. At first i thought it was just a blank book that he failed to write in, but when i wrote in it i received a response."
Ginny looked as though she was about to be sick so Harry quickly intervened. "No Ginny dont worry it isn't like Riddle's diary. The ink remained on the page like a conversation, and the person who replied happened to be a student at Durmstrang." Harry then quickly turned to Ron and added, "I'm sorry i used your name instead of mine mate. I feel like he would have recognized Harry Potter so i thought i would use a more neutral name. I'm really sorry but the book is not hidden in the Room of Requirement so there's no way it could hurt us now right."
They all look shocked as if they were trying to absorb all that he had said. Finally Hermione spoke. "Well we don't know the extent of the magic of the book. It could be a simple Communication Charm, but it still may contain dangerous Hexes. I'm glad you got rid of it, and it should stay in the room. Let the Ministry handle something for once." She then added with a smile, "It's about time you retired from being a hero and enjoy life for once."
Harry couldn't help but slip his arm around Ginny's waist. She immediately moved closer to Harry (to Ron's extreme displeasure). But Ron quickly shook off the grotesqueness of his sister and best friend's embrace and protested Hermione's reasoning. "Well come on Hermione. It couldn't hurt just to ask a few questions. Besides if the thing is even half as dangerous as Riddle's Diary we'll just throw it away. Riddle's Diary only had an effect on those who wrote in it constantly." Ginny immediately looked away upon this remark. "I say we get it and just ask one more question."
They all then looked at Ginny. "You know my vote. I don't go anywhere near diaries or journals. Hell i even try to avoid autobiographies. They're practically the same thing."
Harry would have laughed, but he remembered how sensitive Ginny was on the subject of her second year. He then said, "Look i agree with Hermione. I...sorry... We have been through enough as it is. Let the ministry do its job. It's hundreds of miles away anyway. No reason to risk our well being for the sake of curiosity,"
So the group decided to forget about the diary, except Ron who managed to do a lot of grumbling on the way up to the common room. But by the time the group got there the diary seemed to be mostly forgotten. Hermione and Ron decided to warm up by the fire and Harry thought he and Ginny would find a nice quiet corner and get some alone time for once.
While on the way down, Harry happened to pass by Professor Slughorn who gave Harry a generous nod. Also Malfoy passes and for the first time in public Draco acknowledged Harry respectfully. And if that was odd, what he saw after was even odder. Harry could have sworn that he saw Mundungus Fletcher heading towards the 7th floor with an odd looking object in his hands. Harry turned the corner quickly to follow him but he was gone up the stairs. Harry tried to locate him on the 7th floor but just couldn't find him.
Suddenly Harry got an idea. He sprinted back to the common room despite many protests from Ginny to "shut up about Mundungus and kiss me already," and ran up the stairs to take out the Marauder's Map. Harry quickly mumbled "I solemnly swear that i am up to no good" and the Hogwarts castle appeared before his eyes.
Harry darted his eyes all over. Most of the names were in the four common rooms, but a couple of teachers could be located patrolling the halls. Finally Harry located the name Mundungus Fletcher moving quickly off the grounds and towards Hogsmeade.
Harry never like Mundungus, but knew that he wasn't an intentionally bad individual. That being said, Harry knew all too well that Mundungus was pawning off the Black goods while Harry was off fighting Voldemort. But why of all places would the man be looking for Black's belongings at Hogwarts. And besides, why wouldn't he go to Harry's bunk to steal some valuable Black heirlooms. The whole thing seemed bizarre, but Harry decided that he would tell Ron and Hermione as soon as Ginny was off his case about the snogging session he promised her.
As he and Ginny raced to a quiet corner of the castle, Harry's mind went back to the diary. "He couldn't know it was in the Room of Requirement. And even if he did there's no way he could have known how to get in." Harry decided to wait until he told Ron and Hermione to discuss it further. Kissing Ginny usually required all of Harry's attention.
