City of Bones (Mortal Instruments Trilogy) 2013?

I know this series is not very popular yet, but I thought it was a fantastic read after I finished HP. I just found out it is going to be made into a trilogy by the makers of LOTR!!! It's set for release 2012. I know it's a long ways off, but I can't wait. I know it will be amazing.

For those unfamiliar with it, here's the link to the official website. It kind of reminded me of the later hp books when harry was older, but this series definitely runs much darker.

As for the movie, they have cast lily Collins as clary. She looks perfect for it. At the end of January, they had offered the part of Jace to alex pettyfer and I was ecstatic. It was as if the studio actually listened to the fans. It looked like it was a done deal, until Alex and his agents allegedly asked for 10milliom dollars which upset the studio execs who then decided to issue an open casting call for Jace. I think back then, alex's people thought I am number four and beastly were going to be huge hits.

I still hope Alex and the studios come to a deal but it looks bleak. I just hope they find someone who can do Jace justice.

It looks like Alex pettyfer is still up for Jace. I still hope he accepts.

Now it seems that Jamie bower (young gellert grindewald) is the top choice to play Jace. I guess he does already have the hair :lol and has been a part of two big franchises (hp and twilight) albeit in minor roles. He just was not my mental image of Jace, but I guess I will try to warm up to it if this is how it plays out. It is such a shame Alex did not take it. I can't believe he would rather play a young chaining tatum as a male stripper than the lead in MI but I guess that is his preference.

I've only read City of Bones (and Clockwork Angel, but that's not the point) and I think the person they cast for Jace is not the mental image I had in my mind....I pictured someone less....scrawny.

I was pretty disappointed with his casting at first, but most of the time I end up being pleasantly surprised so I will try and give him the benefit of the doubt. The author said alex pettyfer turned down the role and that at least the role went to someone who actually wanted it. So, hopefully he can pull it off even though he wasn't what I pictured jace to look like at all.

News on this movie has been pretty much nonexistent for awhile ever since Jace was cast which seems like eons ago. They were supposed to start filming in Jan but that was postponed as well. Initially, I was getting concerned that maybe it wasn't going to happen at all.

However, Cassie has been on a book tour for clockwork prince and she said apparently the powers that be did not like the first script which, shockingly left out Magnus and the whole Jace/Clary brother-sister issue. I was wondering how they were going to handle the latter, but I guess the first screenwriter must have given up and just omitted it all together ! :lol

The new script is supposedly much more true to the book but it is still pending approval from all the people involved.

I totally agree! He is such a fun character. I guess it never ceases to amaze me how much they change with these book adaptations. I was pretty shocked they would omit a character that is in all the books, including the prequels! I am not sure what the first screenwriter was thinking. Then again I remember with percy jackson they omitted kronos and clarissa. That would sort of be like omitting malfoy and voldemort in HP. Maybe Jill Postigo (the first screenwriter) was trying to streamline the movie as much as possible.

I thought this movie was never going to get made after screen gems dropped it and the director (scott stewart) was out of the picture as well.

However, it looks like it is being given another shot with new director. Here's hoping it actually gets made!

Yes, I agree. I think the movie lost a lot of steam when they could not get Alex pettyfer last year. Lily was actually cast as Clary for city of bones before Jennifer Lawrence was cast as katniss. I remember Alex being up for both jace and peeta a year ago. It actually seemed like mortal instruments would get made at around the same time frame as HG as it was supposed to start filming in the spring of last year. Now of course, a year later, HG is on the verge of being a huge hit while city of bones is still looking for a release date- assuming it gets made.

At least they have a start date for filming set- aug 15. They have 4 months i guess to lock down the cast. I was surprised they chose the director of the karate kid remake for this, but he might be better than the original director Scott Stewart since he seemed to be more interested in the special efx I.e. vampire motorcycles than anything else. I guess that isn't too surprising since he directed priest and legion. It sounds like the new director is more interested in the characters.

I have never seen him in anything, but he seems like he would be a good fit.

They have also cast Magnus with a prior model named Godfrey Gao. All I can say is..wow :) Not to sound too fan girlish, but I never expected Magnus to be hotter than Jace! :lol

Although all this casting news has not received anywhere near the hype that hunger games did, I am just glad that the movie is actually happening. The only actor that I still have a hard time with is Jamie as Jace. However, I am sure he is going to turn out fine because I remember being worried about Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss and she turned out to be phenomenal.

I saw some of the photos and the shadowhunters are looking awesome! I can't wait to see how it looks on screen. I heard the runes weren't just going to be the black but they would have some kind of effect to them. And Im guessing since the blades are nearly clear they may have some effect on them as well.

I am surprised too at how good the shadow hunter gear looks. Having those blades in the back really helps with the overall look. I'm glad to hear the runes won't just be the black marks we see.

I love him! He's a fantastic actor and i think he will be great in the role of valentine.

Here are some set pics from today of clary and Simon. I have never seen Robert Sheehan in anything but wow, he couldn't have been more perfect look wise. Him and lily really look great together. It's so great to see these characters come to life.

It looks like the trailer is finally out for this. I will probably have to watch it a few more times to formulate a solid opinion about it but at first viewing, I was underwhelmed. The production value wasn't terrible, but I think maybe they should have waited and put in some better effects before putting this teaser out. I have always liked Lily for Clary, but her acting wasn't too great here. Jamie was surprisingly decent as Jace in the short clips we had.
At least they didn't focus at all on the romance, which should distinguish it from twilight. The main issue I had with it was how derivative it looked. With the voiceover, it seemed a lot like a teen version of Harry potter with a female protagonist. it jus doesn't seem like this preview is going to pique the interest of any non book fans the way hunger games did.
I guess we will have to wait and see.

I am glad that at least the movie actually got made.
