I know a lot of people haven't heard about these books cause they're so old, but ya'll should really look into them. I've finished The Belgariad and Mallorean series, and now I'm onto The Elenium.
David Eddings anyone?SeleneUsagi January 16th, 2010, 11:18 pm I know a lot of people haven't heard about these books cause they're so old, but ya'll should really look into them. I've finished The Belgariad and Mallorean series, and now I'm onto The Elenium. Moriath February 17th, 2010, 11:46 pm Somewhat late to the party, I know. But I love the Belgariad. Back in the days, I even opened a thread about the Belgariad and possible parallels to HP. :rotfl: Anyway, the series isn't great literature but it's good entertainment and great fun. Come to think of it, it's maybe time for a reread. The snark and the banter, it is beautiful. Rush March 12th, 2010, 4:04 pm I've only read the Belgariad and I thought it was somewhat bittersweet. Some moments were very exciting and I couldn't put the book down, at other times I found it too be very dull and it took me a very long time to get through some parts. I also found it somewhat confusing, especially at the beginning of the series, but eventually it became more clear to me. Sorafune March 12th, 2010, 4:42 pm I love David Eddings, his books are my favorites and I never get tired of reading them. I'm missing some of them in my collection but I'll get them one day. Moriath March 12th, 2010, 10:45 pm at other times I found it too be very dull and it took me a very long time to get through some parts. Really? I have never come across anyone who thought this about the series, how interesting! :) Which parts did you find dull? Rush March 14th, 2010, 5:18 pm Really? I have never come across anyone who thought this about the series, how interesting! :) Which parts did you find dull? Hmmm.... I haven't read the books for a little while, and I don't have them on me to graze through. I guess, in general, I found the parts that focused away from Garion, Silk, and Belgararath.. For example when the story is focused more on Ce'Nedra as she leads her army to Gar og Nadrak, if I remember correctly. I disliked when the story focused on the queens (though I can't remember specific names, but I think it was in the latter few books). I also found the journey through Maragor to be long and tedious. That's not to say I didn't like the books. I enjoyed most parts of them. Gladheon March 26th, 2010, 5:21 am I loved the books. I really enjoyed the banter and bickering that Polgara and Belgarath engaged in when they talked to each other. Liselle March 28th, 2010, 12:32 pm Somewhat late to the party, I know. If anyone's interested they're here David Eddings and JK Rowling.....what can we learn? (http://www.cosforums.com/showthread.php?t=69842&highlight=eddings) That makes me feel old! Those books were wonderful, like you say the snark and the general banter was brilliant, I agree they're worth an investigation Moriath March 28th, 2010, 5:41 pm  you opened one thread on it and I opened another! Belgarath and Silk always crack me up. Deplore March 28th, 2010, 10:13 pm I've read a few of his works in the past. I haven't for years though, I just remember there was a lot of them at my high schools library. I did enjoy them though and would read more of his stuff. Belgarath and Silk always crack me up. Well it's where I got my username from  so yes I'm quite a fan too. I woudl recommend it to a friend! Moriath July 21st, 2011, 2:04 pm I'm rereading Polgara the Sorceress in German and the asides to the reader are much more obvious in the translation. I never noticed before how annoying that becomes. And it's really the weakest book surrounding the Belgariad. Belmakor August 12th, 2011, 6:50 pm Well it's where I got my username My username is utterly random and has absolutely nothing to do with characters which may or may not be found within the series... xD Honestly though, I adore Eddings' books. They're always fun and interesting. Never really got into the Elenium, but the Belgariad (and all associated books/series) and Redemption of Althalus were great. Eddings is really an amazing author. I love his sense of humor, and the plots are simply lovely. Characterization is where he excels though, methinks. Belgarath, Kheldar, etc. <3 |
