JR637 January 26th, 2010, 4:43 pm This is the thread for fans of Conan O'Brien past, present, and in the year 3000!!
Word is Conan is headed to Fox so we may still be in business here!
Who's with me?? I'm with COCO!

IenjoyAcidPops January 27th, 2010, 12:35 am Yay, a Conan thread! (I feel a string dance coming on.)
The Fox thing isn't official, but I think now that he and NBC have gone their separate ways, they are talking. I don't know, Fox might be the best option for him. I definitely can't see him going to the internet, and I'm not so sure about cable. (Certainly not comedy Central, they have their bases covered with late night talk shows.) No matter what, I'm not too worried about Coco - he's way too talented (and, let's face it, rich) to just fade into obscurity or something.

Agreed. I think Fox is his best option and they have been looking for someone/something to rival Leno and Letterman for quite some time. Upon checking Google News, the newest Conan/Fox news is from yesterday, the 25th so we'll see...

IenjoyAcidPops January 27th, 2010, 3:48 am I have thought that maybe Conan's best option would be to return to either "Saturday Night Live" or "The Simpsons," but either of those shows would benefit more from his return than he would. It'd be more like a step backwards for him.
freelantzer January 29th, 2010, 5:29 am I'm with Coco! I'm so happy there's a thread now! I looked for one when everything was going down with NBC. Can't believe how short-sighted they are. But I'm looking forward to whatever Conan does next.
IenjoyAcidPops January 29th, 2010, 5:35 am looked for one when everything was going down with NBC. Can't believe how short-sighted they are.
And they're apparently a lot more short-sighted now than they were 5.5 years ago, when the decision to give Conan "The Tonight Show" was made. That was a creative choice, not a business choice, because Jay was #1 until the "end." Heaven forbid we give Conan's new show time to build an audience (especially difficult with a lousy lead-in).
AldeberanBlack January 29th, 2010, 4:37 pm When Leno left the Tonight Show, he should have left NBC altogether and NBC should have allowed Conan O'Brien to have a clear run as the host.
When Johnny Carson stepped down, he didn't hang around to cast a shadow over Jay Leno.
NBC should have followed that example.
Hopefully O'Brien and his writing team will move to a network where they will be treated with more respect.

Yea, I think that he is also way more talented then leno, though I do not like him at all, really. I only use to watch the Tonight show when he was on it because I was waiting for Conan(I only get about 12 channels) and I don't like Letterman or whatever his name is.

Exactly, I do not get why Leno left really, was it his choice?
And I think that since he did leave it, he should've been told he wont get it back.
But I am happy that Fox might get Conan, that'd be cool, I love Conan(or Coco..lol..) I was so sad when I found out he was getting canceled. Hopefully his show on Fox(if there is one) will do good:)
I also think Jimmy Fallon was a poor chioce to fill Conans shoe, never have been a fan of that fool, bad actor and not the greatest comedian(I tried watching him, but I just couldn't).
Why is Fox so slow on jumping on the late night train?

I think Leno initially signed a contract to leave because he wanted to retire. But later on, he regretted it and didn't want to retire, so he and NBC decided to create his own show (Well that's what I heard anyway...)
I think it would be great for Conan to go on Fox. I love Conan! It wasn't fair he was cancelled.
But I disagree with you about Jimmy Fallon. I think Conan's better, but I actually like him. At first I didn't, but overtime, I started liking him more and more. But whatever...
Wab January 31st, 2010, 1:07 am Why is Fox so slow on jumping on the late night train?
Late night hosts tend to be harder to control than the usual Fox talking heads.
It wasn't fair he was cancelled.
It's business. Being fair has nothing to do with it.
IenjoyAcidPops January 31st, 2010, 1:40 am I think Leno initially signed a contract to leave because he wanted to retire. But later on, he regretted it and didn't want to retire, so he and NBC decided to create his own show (Well that's what I heard anyway...)
According to his recent Oprah interview (which I didn't read but read a summary of), Leno was "heartbroken" when NBC announced to him that he would be stepping down from "The Tonight Show" in 2009 and Conan would take over. He said he told "a little white lie" at the time - that he would retire in '09, when in reality he assumed he'd just move to another network. Well, by the time NBC announced "The Jay Leno Show" other networks were looking at Jay, or at least there were many rumors, and NBC was in dire straits anyway, so they decided: 1 hour, 5 nights a week, "The Jay Leno Show" = tremendously popular late-night personality, primetime variety show, tons of money saved on not developing all that pesky primetime drama: it HAS to work, right?

I think Conan is way better, I really hope he goes too Fox!

I know!! I tried to get tickets in Boston but it ALREADY sold out! Crazy!
Why is Fox so slow on jumping on the late night train?
The same reason he started a Tour...as part of his deal with leaving NBC, he can't do talk shows until September I believe, possibly the end of the year.

IenjoyAcidPops April 12th, 2010, 8:58 pm Aaaaand raise your hand if you expected TBS?
No one huh? Neither did I.
Conan O'Brien is going to TBS.
"In three months I've gone from network television to Twitter to performing live in theaters, and now I'm headed to basic cable," O'Brien said in a statement. "My plan is working perfectly."
O'Brien also tweeted: "The good news: I will be doing a show on TBS starting in November! The bad news: I'll be playing Rudy on the all new Cosby Show."
The currently untitled one-hour show will debut in November at 11/10c after the World Series, and will air Monday through Thursday. It will be followed by George Lopez's Lopez Tonight, which currently airs in the timeslot and has averaged more than 1.2 million viewers for its first season.
O'Brien's move marks a surprising end to a late-night shuffle that started with Jay Leno's return to the 11:35 p.m. slot on NBC and continued with O'Brien bowing out of hosting the Tonight Show after only seven months.
He was widely expected to go to Fox, and his shift to TBS dramatically raises the network's profile.

Same here. I wasn't really a fan of his show myself... heck I'm more of a fan of Craig Ferguson's -- since he reminds me of Johnny Carson the most out of all of the late night hosts .
But I wish Conan the best of luck over on TBS.

IenjoyAcidPops July 11th, 2010, 5:04 am Say, remember "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien?" NBC may be trying to forget it, but it's been nominated for the Outstanding Variety Series Emmy.
freelantzer July 11th, 2010, 6:21 am Say, remember "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien?" NBC may be trying to forget it, but it's been nominated for the Outstanding Variety Series Emmy.I laughed so hard when that was annouced! Especially after hearing that Leno was also submitted for The Tonight Show but it was Conan who got the nod.
freelantzer August 30th, 2010, 4:48 am So no Emmy love for Conan tonight. :sigh: Come on, Emmy voters! You couldn't vote for him to at least see what Conan was going to say?
IenjoyAcidPops August 30th, 2010, 4:53 am Yes, that was depressing. Not surprising (after all, The Daily Show has won for 8 years straight now), but depressing. I am somewhat surprised that Conan showed up at all.
freelantzer August 30th, 2010, 4:59 am That's what bothers me about the Emmys. It's the same year after year. Don't know why I keep watching.
IenjoyAcidPops August 31st, 2010, 6:26 am I would like this new show to be called The Cone Zone. Seems unlikely, though.
freelantzer August 31st, 2010, 6:27 am The Cone Zone:lol: I would love that. I could see him calling it that. :D

Indeed, indeed. You saw his 60 Minutes interview, right? I thought that was great, very satisfying, and I think he...behaved himself very well there.
Here's something, though: Conan's Tonight Show was nominated (and lost) two Emmys: Variety Series, which was presented on the telecast as always, and Writing in a Variety Series, which is always presented on the telecast but this year was not. Now, I do believe Conan and his staff were screwed to a degree, but I'm not one of those "GAAAAAH! CONAN GOT SCREWED, I'M NEVER WATCHING NBC AGAIN, I'M MAD AS HELL AND I'M NOT GONNA TAKE IT ANYMORE!" people. However, I have kind of a hard time believing that the Writing in a Variety Series category being shunned off to the Creative Arts ceremony didn't have something to do the Conan staff's nomination. Come on, we have to watch a roll call of award show writers being nominated (and award show writers/directors being nominated on another award show is the most incestuous thing), with the Tony Awards guy winning, but we lose an award that A) some people care about, and B) always features a genuinely funny intro?!
(Did that make sense, or was it just paranoid rambling?)

You know, I hadn't thought of that, but that makes sense! Those intros are always hilarious and people do care about those shows. Makes no sense for NBC to move that award--unless they just didn't want to give Conan any more exposure. :grumble:

I love Craig, too. He's hilarious. It's a very rare thing for me to catch his show because he's on so late, but he definitely tops my late night list with Conan.
IenjoyAcidPops September 3rd, 2010, 1:09 am I had a reply of mock outrage prepared for praising Craig Ferguson on a Conan O'Brien thread, and then I remembered that they haven't been competitors in like a year and a half.

Well, that's a big bummer, but not really a surprise. At least they're keeping it in the family, making Jimmy the bandleader and bringing Worm back on.
I do really miss the Late Night days, though, with Max and, especially, Joel Godard. A more downright insane talk show announcer you will not find

Ferguson is quickly becoming one of my favorite talk show hosts ever. I love how he never takes anything he does seriously. Each show has pretty much the same formula (monologue, reading tweets and emails, guest interviews) but I never tire of watching it because he's is so candid and quick-thinking (and inappropriate, which I love).
I appreciate his interviewing style as well. He could have the most boring and uncharismatic celebrity on as a guest but still get a great interview out of them.
In other news, I'm thrilled that Conan's show starts in November! A Potter film AND a new Conan project in the same month? How serendipitous.

I like Ferguson. He is great. I had a cat named Ferguson too:lol: Not after him though, his name was Fergie cause someone thought he was a girl, then it got changed to a more manly name=]
I can't wait for his show to start. I love the commercials, the last one I saw was a little creepy and basically was saying he has stalkers:wow:
I love how people still call him Coco  was it Tom Hanks who started that?

Hey guys, It is only thirty seven days away from Conan O'Brien's premiere on TBS! Conan's page on the TBS website has a nice blurb about their new Emmy Nominee's show. He is going to come on before the George Lopez show and it mentions how Lopez called Conan personally to tell him to join the TBS late-night line-up. It also has a link to the team coco website which includes more information, and some videos of his live performance tour.
And of course I'm sure you guys all remember Ed Helms big send off to Coco! Enjoy!

According to Rolling Stone Weinberg and O'Brien parted by mutual agreement and Max will be touring with his Max Weinberg Big Band.
There's also the fact that the E Street Band has had a pretty heavy tour schedule which looks set to continue and any new show needs a stable line-up while getting established.

This is very exciting! I've watched Conan since I was 12...the past few months have been very dull without him :( I'm anxious to see how many people will be tuning in these first couple of weeks.
IenjoyAcidPops November 9th, 2010, 4:19 am I am LOVING this so far!!! There's a joy, a giddiness, to Conan that we haven't seen since Late Night. I'm not saying I disliked Conan's Tonight Show, just the opposite, I did like it a lot, but I don't know, there's an enthusiasm and exhilaration here we haven't seen in a while. Or maybe it's just me being so damn happy to have Conan and Andy back on TV.
theboywholived8 November 11th, 2010, 2:15 pm He has been pretty spectacular, thus far. I loved his comment about how there is no barrier between him and his audience and that it was freaking everybody out:D
freelantzer November 17th, 2010, 4:13 am I'm loving the audience's escalating attempts to get Conan's attention. First they were just wearing Team Coco t-shirts, then they held up signs asking for a lock of beard (!), then that girl made that beard of orange yarn.
deathplce4myhed November 27th, 2010, 9:04 am I love Conan!!!!!!
I missed him!!!!!
He is really the only late night talk show host I ever cared for.
I didn't mind Ferguson(no idea about spelling, though I did have a cat named that, he was believed to be a girl at first and it was originally Fergie:D..), but he got kind of old...no one can beat Conan, sides maybe Jim Carrey and he may even not be able too...:D:D (I love both of them btw).
I currently am behind in watching the episodes, my dad has been sticking my 20 month old sister who is going into the terrible twos phase of life(she is the oh so cute child in my sig) with me and going into his room and it is rather hard to focus when she is screaming MINE MINE MINE MINE at everything or just screaming or wanting to rock out, despite me not being able to watch like any episodes of Conan this week(they be recorded) and that she acts like everything(including my arm at times) is hers, I still love my little sister...:D
Btw I don't watch Conan when it is on because we get a TBS channel that is ahead for Nevada so it comes on at 8pm instead of 11pm and I never realize when it is 8pm so I end up missing it, oh and I HATE commercials, and my little brother can't focus on any show for more then 2 or 3 minutes and changes the channel(basically right when you are like oh this is interesting, then bam! channels changed or he is playing Battleflied Bad Company hate watching this:grumble:). It does come on at 10pm here too, but it is my bedtime:D
IenjoyAcidPops December 3rd, 2010, 4:25 am I didn't know what jeggings were last night. I wish I didn't know now.

IenjoyAcidPops March 13th, 2011, 12:30 am One more reason I really want to go to South by Southwest: There's a documentary called Conan O'Brien Can't Stop (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/11/movies/conan-obrien-cant-stop-documentary-by-rodman-flender.html?_r=1&src=twrhp) playing at that festival (which is going on currently in Austin, Texas) tomorrow. I really hope some distributor picks this up and it makes it into theaters soon.
freelantzer March 14th, 2011, 3:00 am What is the doc about?
My cousin went to see Conan on Monday. At the very last minute someone in her group backed out so she called me, but I had already gone in to work. Wish she would've invited me in the first place. She and her fiance were on TV briefly when Conan went into the audience to shake hands with a guy next to them that he'd been joking with throughout the monologue. :sigh:

It's a chronicle of his "Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour" from last summer. There's a link to a New York Times article about it in my post.
