Slartibartfast March 31st, 2010, 11:58 pm 1) Do you think Voldemort deserves to be voted the "number one villain"? What qualities and/or actions make you think so (either way)?
Hes up there. Hes one of the nastiest Big Bads Ive really read about. Him and the Witch King get the vote. Voldy is completely unfeeling and has no consideration. Alot of villians actually have a smidge of compassion in some form or another. Not Voldy.
2) What do you think of Voldemort's takeover plan in DH? What do you believe his ultimate objectives were?
I thought it really badly laid out. Imperious curse is not infallible. His ultimate objectives were simple: Weed out Muggle-borns, kill muggles, rule over Wizard kind with Purebloods in the front. I would imagine he wished for limited rights for half-bloods.
3) Tom Marvolo Riddle was a brilliant student, considered charming by many, and apparently a model of good behavior (prefect, Head Boy). How did he go so wrong on his life path? How did his childhood environment affect who he became? What was it about his years at Hogwarts that kept him on the path to evil? Why did he take a job as a lowly store clerk when he left Hogwarts?
He never cared for others. It was a goal of his even at a young age to be better. Not just a better student, but a better wizard. He duped a lot of people while at school. He wanted them to think he was a ray of sunshine. He always was evil. Look at what he was like in the orphanage! He chose the store to connect himself with legendary items like the Locket and the Cup.
4) Professor Trelawney prophesied that the Dark Lord would return more powerful than before.
What things do you expect Lord Voldemort to do to show this greater power and increased legroom? Which of his plans can move forward now that Albus Dumbledore is dead?
Was this question written before DH came out?
5. How effective are Voldemort's methods for controlling his followers? How do his methods compare to those of other leaders in the Potterverse?
Voldy controls them more or less through fear. We see the Ministry pulling the same sort of move in book 5.
6. Voldemort has committed murder, "the supreme act of evil" according to Horace Slughorn. But it seems that splitting one's soul ("an act of violation, it is against nature" according to Slughorn) multiple times is also supremely evil. How has the act of creating Horcruxes damaged and/or aided Voldemort?
I always found the act to be horrifying! It hasnt aided him at all to be honest. Sure he didnt die when he zapped Harry but thats because Harry became a horcrux! It damaged him because it made him less human and even less likely to have human emotions. I guess in one way, it did aid him so that he could complete his goals without any real hindsight. D:
7. What flaws do you think led to his downfall? Could he have avoided it?
He probably could have avoided it if he wasnt so damned cocky! He put all his eggs in one basket. His biggest flaws were over confidence and lack of objectivity.
halfbreedlover April 1st, 2010, 5:34 am I'd just like to register my sympathy for this terribly misunderstood man. Voldemort was nothing more than a lovely guy who wanted to make the world a better place for everyone. He would have succeeded if it weren't for that rotten Potter kid.

A lovely man who ... made a mistake. :agree: He and Marietta Edgecombe should get together sometime!

That is so true. It was all for the greater good. Sometimes if you're going to bake a cake, you just have to crack a few eggs.
The_Green_Woods April 1st, 2010, 9:21 am So true. But people misunderstand and they talk ill of poor Voldemort. Don't they know how tough it is to make horcruxes and murder people. It's not easy being a Dark Lord. I totally sympathise with him.
Daggerstone April 1st, 2010, 9:24 am Sometimes if you're going to bake a cake, you just have to crack a few eggs.
Yes. Cake. :agree:

Daggerstone April 1st, 2010, 9:49 am Loves whom? Precious?
Yessss. :agree:
Yoana April 1st, 2010, 9:57 am What are you all talking about?! Of course Voldemort was veil. How dare you disgrace him name by alluding to some seedy good motives. He was clearly the awesomest villain ever to walk the earth. He knew no fail and died because of a technicality through no fault of his own. He was intelligent, vicious, holds the world record for highest evil content in a single person and was properly scary to boot. Especially his pre-kill lectures. Chilling. Now stop babbling and bow before his greatness!
The_Green_Woods April 1st, 2010, 10:04 am Precious.
Bows to Voldemort.

Both, my dear. :D
Best Dark Lord in the business.
The_Green_Woods April 1st, 2010, 11:21 am
Morgoth is the best Dark Lord in the business. Terrifying.
But Voldemort is cool too. He has no nose. That must count for something.
Pearl_Took April 1st, 2010, 11:34 am But Voldemort is cool too. He has no nose. That must count for something.
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Best Dark Lord attribute ever, if you ask me. :D
Sly_Lady April 1st, 2010, 1:05 pm I disagree. I think of Voldy could be more like, well… JAMES, then he'd be cool!
silver ink pot April 1st, 2010, 1:09 pm Voldemort was jealous of James. That's become obvious to me over the years.
For one thing, James had such awesome hair, and skinny legs, and a dog side-kick, and a beautiful wife.
Voldemort never had a wife or a dog. Loser! Even if he was Head Boy, too.
The_Green_Woods April 1st, 2010, 1:09 pm I must disagree. If anyone can counter James's awesomeness I think it is Voldy. And Voldy may well win. He does not have a nose. How ever will James counter that?

To answer all this, I say only one thing. Voldemort had NO NOSE.
Sly_Lady April 1st, 2010, 1:13 pm They even had a duel to decide who was cooler! James would've won too, if he hadn't just been using his wand to stir the soup and left it in the kitchen when the duel started!
Kat_Suki April 1st, 2010, 1:18 pm Yick. All this poor misunderstood sentiment. I say to all:
Down With The Dim Lord Fartypants!!!
The_Green_Woods April 1st, 2010, 1:18 pm James would have won if he had removed his nose. I think that was his weak point. Plus the no wand at hand situation too, I reluctantly admit. (reluctant for he's a Hero and I hate finding faults in Heroes).
Voldemort NEVER ..... and he certainly was NEVER dim. Thank you.
silver ink pot April 1st, 2010, 1:22 pm They even had a duel to decide who was cooler! James would've won too, if he hadn't just been using his wand to stir the soup and left it in the kitchen when the duel started!
What duel? Oh yeah - that duel! Big duel. :agree: Big major duel.
Down With The Dim Lord Fartypants!!!
I think that's character bashing! Mods? Mods? She's not being nice!
Kat_Suki April 1st, 2010, 1:26 pm Nice?!? Found a new image for its wanted poster:

I raise my hand in complaint too. Voldy is lovable and this poster is calling him names.
Kat_Suki April 1st, 2010, 1:38 pm That nose is painted; it is not the real one. Nose? And here I thought it was a bogey. Let me see if I can find a pic without the nasal drip.

Yeah, that'll do. Accept it's not true to life regarding his fangs.
The_Green_Woods April 1st, 2010, 1:41 pm Ah the lovely slits for nose. Incomparable.

Sly_Lady April 1st, 2010, 3:26 pm Maybe; but surely not as sexy as James. No one, I repeat, no one can beat him at sexiness and ... cleanliness?
Well, there was that time that Sirius rolled in… something foul…
The_Green_Woods April 1st, 2010, 3:34 pm Well, there was that time that Sirius rolled in… something foul…
No. Don't tell me that the foul thing was James. NOOOOOOO.
What had he done? Stepped on Grim POO?
FurryDice April 1st, 2010, 6:01 pm Really now, this is the Dim Lord's thread, not James' or Sirius'. Poor Voldie won't be pleased that his thread is being taken over by talk of horrible meanies who object to him using a few itsty bitsy Unforgivable Curses.
