The Third Task: The Cloak of Invisibility

Harry Potter
May 1st, 2010, 8:39 pm
Ignotus, the youngest and wisest of the three brothers, was a humble man and did not trust Death at all, and rather than ask for something to further his own desires, he asked for something that would enable him to leave Death and not be followed. Death, knowing he may have been outsmarted by Ignotus but not wishing to betray his true intentions in giving the brothers their "gifts," took off his own Cloak of Invisibility that he used to sneak up on people with and gave it to Ignotus with very bad grace. This was no ordinary Invisibility Cloak, as it provided everlasting protection to its wearer and did not fade with age as most Invisibility Cloaks often do. - from The Tale of the Three Brothers

The Cloak of Invisibility

The Challenge

Cover something up with an invisibility cloak. This should be something that you never want to see again. The cloak does not have a size limit. The item that you cover up has to be an object. It can't be a person, a sound or a smell or a taste or an idea, for example. It has to be something that can be seen.

Rules

provide a picture of the object that you want to cover. The maximum size for the image is 500px x 500px and 200kb. The picture of the object that you want to cover can be a photograph, an image found on the internet, etc.
label your object and write a brief description of the object - maximum - 200 words
write an explanation of why you want to make the object invisible - maximum - 500 words
credits - tell us where the picture of the object came from

1. Once you have submitted your entry, it is done. No alterations or resubmissions allowed.

So for clarification purposes, we can take a picture of something we want to cover and upload it as our entry? If we do that, then how do give credit as to where the picture came from?

I was planning on participating to get Gryffindor some extra 5 points, but I would have rather it been a person using the cloak or a character. I canīt think of any object I would like to cover up , Probably cause I had an idea already I cant think of other perspective to it. Things I donīt want to see, I give away. Why waste the space? Iīll try my best to think of something.

Can you clarify the 'label your object' bit, please?

Your label or description would say something like: "this is a red pencil with bite marks on the side" or something simple like that. We just want to know what it is a picture of.

Yes, do the label and description have to be contained on the image itself, or can they be in the format of a separate text entry? :hmm:

You can have the description listed as a line in the entry. The entry should be:
-picture
-description or label
-reason
-credit

No real people or no fictional ones as well?

It could be a portrait or a statue, but not a person.

So for clarification purposes, we can take a picture of something we want to cover and upload it as our entry? If we do that, then how do give credit as to where the picture came from?

You could say that you found a picture of a red pencil on the internet. Or you could say that you took the picture of the red pencil. Does that answer your question?

For those of us who are technically challenged when it comes to up loading pics could you post a link to some kind of instructions on how to do it ? Thanks in advance .

I'll get back to you on this. :)

Question re: Photobucket... Are the mods going to download the image files and post them on the CoS website?

I'm asking because it's very easy to find out whose account a picture is coming from if it's being posted from a URL on Photobucket, since Photobucket includes username in the URL.
