The excitement, the razzmatazz, the cheese, the schmaltz of this year's instalment of the ever-popular pan-European song contest has already started!:

I just hope that Sweden won't make it to the final, the song is really meh and I can't even remember the name of it. Sweden please wake up and send some good music instead and not any artist that's been on Swedish idol -_-

I'm not going to listen to any of the songs before the show, I want to be surprised when I watch it and hear the songs for the firts time.

^ I don't know - I quite like the Swedish entry.

After doing their best for years last year with Andrew Lloyd Webber's guidance, it's a shame the UK decided to pick a terrible Pete Waterman song which sounds like a reject from 1985.

I fear last place again.

:agree: It's like some much more scary version of Jurassic Park where scientists have managed to clone Rick Astley. And I normally like the 80s!

The most depressing thing is that when we get nul points (which we will) the UK media will be full of the usual culturally imperialist hysteria that the contest is fixed.

^ I like the UK entry. It's so totally cheesy and how true Eurovision entries should be. But we know it's never going to win. Such a shame.

Belgium is goood. I love it. So far that's my favourite.

Yes, I like Belgium, too. It really stands out against all the power ballads and disco pop. That and Lithuania are probably my favourites of the ones I've heard so far.

ETA: This is so scary - I was just looking at the official Eurovision Facebook page, which has nearly 100,000 fans, and of the 6 whose pictures happened to be randomly showing at that moment, one was someone I know.

I don't mind Turkey, Belgium or the UK. None are the kinds of songs I'd listen to normally but those ones stood out for me. Having said that though, I hope Lithuania win. That video of them made my day and the song is totally different from the rest.

Bosnia & Herzegovina kinda reminds me of Robbie Williams.

He does? He reminds me of Linkin Park.

 at Finland and Serbia. They get my funky support.

YAY FOR SLOVENIA!

And hurray for the Netherlands. That is so cheesy and old and awesome. You get my support... as well.

OMG Greece... are they ever going to sing? What is going on there. Almost two minutes foreplay and nothing happens .... oh now they sing ... Ok. that's a :td: from me. I don't like it.

:td: for Iceland as well and am sorry Romania I don't like you as well.
BIG :td: for Lithuania and Moldova. No, no and noooooo. *covers ears*

Yes I am prejudiced against this kind of music.

His voice does, yes.

I don't think I actually like any of the songs this year (unlike past years), there are some I can put up with easier than others, and some that stand out as being a little different. None are the styles I'd ever listen to myself.

It's intentional. The guy has been singing in that same style since day one. :agree:

The ultra nationalists are having a blast with that one: "Look, our village idiot ranks same as top performers from other countries!" :p

It's individuals like the blondie blooper of nature that make me seriously consider immigration. The guy is a folk singer here, BTW.

I like, however, that Lena is winning right now, although I don't for particular love her song. She's a cute girl, still a student and was only casted a few months ago. Must be thrilling. Go, Lena!

I was kinda dissappointed of Serbia. They should've put on the traditional costumes like in the video on the website.

Of course the whole family was cheering for Romania. Am surprised they got so far.

Violins Overload much?

UK, whose idea was this background dance? I clearly dissapprove.

Well, congratulations Germany. Can't really say I liked the song, but then, my general opinion of the songs in Eurovision isn't that good.

Quite fun really, to see how sure everyone here were that Norway'd win, and we ended up 20th. I'm a bit surprised really, I thought "our" song was very boring this year.

I missed the first song and as such also the fan... but apparently the guy run onto the stage and destroyed the dancing performance. So the comittee decided to let Spain enter again, at the end of the whole list.

Can't really say I liked the song, but then, my general opinion of the songs in Eurovision isn't that good.Me neither. I don't get why the songs are always so odd. It's more open in the meantime, so that many different styles actually can join, but the countries seem to still either decide for "ballade", "pop" or "odd".

I spotted him, but couldn't quite work out whether he was supposed to be there or not, as he was joining in the dance and he could have been just another backing dancer. The others just kept dancing around him as if nothing untoward was happening, and, as the dance wasn't that good, anyway, it wasn't immediately obvious he was an intruder.

I liked Lena's song; it was catchy, "odd" and original, though a little monotonous.
Well deserved winner!

My other favourite entries were Romania, Denmark, Iceland and Aserbajdsjan. Most of the other songs were okay or mediocre. Ukraina's hullabaloo was dreadful and I'd liked to see either Sweden or Malta in the finale instead.

Melaszka

My favourite was Belgium. I also liked Iceland, Serbia and Israel a lot and quite liked Moldova, Greece and France. I thought Georgia, Portugal and Israel had the best singers, though.

I thought Germany was OK, though, so I'm reasonably happy with the result. And I'm glad that some of the simpler, quirkier, more independent-sounding songs did well (and a lot better than many of the over-produced power ballads and Euro disco acts that had had a lot more money thrown at them).

I wish the UK would take the contest more seriously and stop blaming other people when we do badly. Our singer did his best and put in a good performance but, IMO, the song just wasn't strong enough and we didn't do enough to promote it, so I'm not surprised we came last. Again.

Who guessed that? I may be wrong, but I don't think he was amongst the favourites.

The last minute of the song is pretty energetic, but the long build-up to it is boring IMO. He seemed a bit shaky in the beginning and had some problems with the low notes (as though I haven't seen read that term somewhere else ), but he clearly improved when it reached the climax.

I'd forgotten that Moldova's song was among my favourites too. While listening to them again I think Armenia and Georgia were quite good too, but I can't have 9 favourite songs  Whoever responsible for the poll, could you make it possible to vote for more than one country? :)

Quite a few of the Norwegian TV reporters (surprise, surprise...) and most people I've discussed ESC with in person thought the Norwegian song had a good chance of winning. He wasn't among the favourites of the less biased people, and realistic reporters. (NRK's people always want to raise our hopes to make us watch the show, which is what they're paid for, after all.)

The beginning reminds me so much of another song, but I have no idea which. I find the whole song boring and slow, but I guess it's just not my kind of music. :p I never could stand the voice/song type/performance Didrik did, which isn't his fault. I guess he did a good job with the song he had. Oh, and that kind of beginnings are very easy to ruin with nerves, as it's very calm and fragile, in a way. But I don't think that was why he came 20th, I think Europe just wanted something else this year, and Didrik and Norway didn't stand out enough.

Of course, I can't shout my opinions out too loudly about this year's Eurovision, as I haven't heard all the songs yet.

The U.K. did the same as we Dutch did they send a song that sounded like it was made 20-25 years ago as did we.I am very happy with the Germans winning its a good modern song by a very cute girl.Would not have minded if Belgium had won though it was very nice and it would have been only ther second time also.Anyway congrats to all the German members

We could vote for Satellite out of three songs and it was the weakest, in my opinion. But it's grown on me since and I thought it stood out. In general, I wish more countries would focus on the choice of the song, not on the special effects and outfits. Turkey's flashy-light-heavy performance hurt my eyes. And Spain's clowns crept me out, though the song was decent. :scared:

Last? Really? I thought there were at least half a dozen worse than the UK. The singer was good, had personality etc but the song wasn't anything special and what was with the dancers? Didn't fit the song at all IMO.
I'm quite pleased with the top 2 but the rest of the list is a little baffling IMO.

I've heard he was a professional 'spontaneous'; you know, one of those that jump into the field in the middle of a football match... It looks like this guy has already 'performed' at lwast at a Champions League final and a Roland Garros match.

However, he was the perfect excuse our TVs needed to explain why, once more, Spain has done quite mediocrily despite their continuous hints that we were favourites and this time the prize was ours

We were joking that Spain hired the guy so that they were able to sing twice.

It's ironic that the UK finishes last, while Germany wins with a singer doing a fake Cockney accent like Lily Allen and Kate Nash who are from....the UK!Many people even in Germany complain about that A LOT, but I don't blame her. The girl is just finishing school these weeks, is no professional singer at all. That's just how many students speak English when they learn it ESL: they listen to many music, TV shows, the like and mix together what suits them best. It's much later with a deeper understanding that people realize how funny their way of pronouncing English actually sounds and how many styles they mix together. I doubt Lena is aware of it herself. I know I wasn't when I left school, but sounded like Homer Simpson.

But he got a second chance, no? And the second performance was a lot better, in my view.I read a review in some cultural newspaper beforehand which highly praised the Spanish entry, but also said that not many people would be able to understand the decent performance by just one look. So that would be the reason Spain likely wouldn't get many points. I guess it was a big plus for Spain to get a second performance since this guy is indeed very cool, but you need to check twice or thrice to see that.

Cheesy Award 2010 clearly goes to the butterfly chicks.Although things improved a lot over the last years, I get the feeling that's still the case for the whole show. I don't want them to deny where they come from, but's still quite out of time for the most part imo. Compared to the wonderful artists European countries have, it's hard to understand why hit-songs as in famour twenty years ago are still favoured - but then this kind of music is where the whole idea come from and how the sontest started as 'Grand Prix'.

I like btw that most people in my surroundings still call it Grand Prix. We're hopelessly nostalgic.

I would still argue that we should kiss her English teacher because she speaks a really good English. Most people fresh out of school speak German English because that's how most German English teachers teach it.

Personally, I think it sounds more like a Birmingham accent than Cockney. But whatever she does, she does it consistently, so it's definitely not fake. It's easily understandable, too, so I don't get why there is such a commotion about it.

Well no offense to everyone i hope but i think most expect her to speak like the Queen of the U.K. or like a Yankee am not sure which accent she picked up but it is British anyway i wondered once if it was Irish am just not sure but i have heard some British people use the same accent so there is nothing fake about it.As for the song as i said at least it is 2010 and not the 80's like the British or the 70's or even longer ago like our Dutch entree. And i think Lena has a funny sense of humor.

Aside from a few duff songs, the contest is getting more professional and stylish in production now.
