KetchupRevenge July 20th, 2010, 1:58 am This festival has been around since '08, and is an all day metal fest, and has had the honor of having the headlining acts of Slipknot/Disturbed, Slayer/Manson, and this year, Korn/Rob Zombie.
My first time seeing this fest was last year, and it had acts such as Whitechapel (hated them), God Forbid, Soulmate Invisible, All That Remains, Killswitch Engage, Bullet For My Valentine, Job For a Cowboy, Trivium, Cannibal Corpse, Black Dahlia Murder and a few others that weren't remarkable and I can't remember.
This year will be headlined by Korn and Rob Zombie. Other bands include Lamb of God, Five Finger Death Punch, Three Inches of Blood, Norma Jean, Chimera, Atreyu, and others of awesomeness.
I'll be going this coming Saturday. I'm stoked.
MuggleGirl09 July 20th, 2010, 11:53 pm I went the past two years and am going this year. I love going to Mayhem. Did you know Rockstar is having another concert called Rockstar Uproar Festival? Disturbed and A7X are going to be headlining.
Hysteria July 21st, 2010, 3:07 am Wow soundsl ike my kind of festival (except Korn who are dreadful IMO). Black Dahlia Murder are a really solid live band, as is Manson, Slayer, and Trivium (who I don't like, but they're fun to watch).
This year sounds like a winner! I'd love to see Rob Zombie, and Chimaira are a top band to see live. You'll have a blast :D

Manson IMO wasn't so great live last year, I was disappointed. I left after about the fourth song. Slayer was of course amazing though. :D

I've seen Manson three times. Once in '07, twice in '09. They were better in '07, I think they're getting old ;)

Well, when I saw him last year sounded like he was drunk or something when he first came on stage. He was acting weird, more than usual. His singing wasn't too good either. I didn't get to hear the songs I like by him, because I left early, but nothing was worth staying there listening to that, haha. :)

That really is a shame, 'cos Marilyn Manson are easily one of the best (top three) bands I've seen live, and I've seen hundreds and hundreds in my line of work  Maybe it was a bad day, not sure. I find that bands don't usually play best at festivals anyway.

Some do though. Maybe he was having an off day, haha. But Killswitch, Disturbed, Slayer, All That Remains were excellent. :D
Hysteria July 22nd, 2010, 4:45 pm Festivals are so different for bands. I've seen dozens of bands in both a solo gig and festival setting and their performances are entirely different. Bands I've seen in both settings like Anberlin, Placebo, Muse, Slipknot, Jane's Addiction etc are all better in their own headlining shows. I think they tend to let more of their personalities out, plus they know the venue will be full of their fans, rather than a bunch of festival goers who may just be passing by, or watching to heckle
Having said that, I love festivals. Unfortunately we've only got one good one left in Australia, but I think it's only a matter of time before Mayhem comes here (and maybe Warped if we're lucky).

I went to Warped Tour last year, and IMO it wasn't so great. I guess because at Mayhem, it was more of a mature audience. Of course, there was younger kids there as well, but sooo much less than Warped Tour. Plus, I only enjoyed watching one band on the Warped Tour last year. All the rest sucked pretty badly, haha. But, Mayhem rocks! :D
Hysteria July 22nd, 2010, 5:04 pm Warped seems to be very 'hit and miss' in that they'll have two or three decent or big bands, and then a bunch of nobodies. Would have probably gone this year though. Great to see Parkway Drive on the lineup :tu:
I went to Taste of Chaos the one and only time it came to this country  was awful, one of the worst festivals I've seen.
Looking at the line-ups for the three Mayhem festivals (on good old Wikipedia) they seem fairly consistant, but '08 looks the best to me while '10 looks the weakest (it'd be killer if Rob Zombie's latest album had actually been good :sigh:) but at least they seem to be keeping up a good standard :tu:
KetchupRevenge July 26th, 2010, 2:09 am Just saw this fest yesterday.
Rob stole the show without question. During Korn's set, the whole place was still reeling from Rob's set, it was one of the best performances I've ever seen. Korn's was boring, but not as bad as Lamb's. That set was the worst of the four on the Mainstage.
Hysteria July 26th, 2010, 5:08 am I'd say I'm surprised about Korn but really.... it's Korn.
Good to hear about Rob Zombie! I imagine they'd be an incredible live band (I'm a big John 5 fan too) and have fingers crossed they'll be heading over for the Australian Soundwave Festival next year.
MuggleGirl09 July 26th, 2010, 12:28 pm Two more weeks until Mayhem! I cannot wait! :D
MuggleGirl09 August 8th, 2010, 7:02 pm I'm going on the 11th! Two more days, can't wait. :D
MuggleGirl09 August 12th, 2010, 2:52 pm Just went last night. The first two years were still the best, but still had such a good time. :)
Hysteria August 12th, 2010, 3:19 pm Was Rob Zombie any good? Seeing them in Feb/March next year and have heard nothing but good things. In fact, I don't know I'd believe anyone saying they're less than incredible, but curious none the less
MuggleGirl09 August 12th, 2010, 9:53 pm Rob Zombie was good! The set was pretty cool looking as well. I took a couple pictures of it if you are at all interested in it. While he was performing, he had clips of movies like the old "Planet of The Apes", "House of 1000 Corpses", and some amine-looking cartoon. Everyone thought that he was done playing, until the music started to play again and he closed with "Dragula." :)
I also took a bit of video of the opening as well. :)
Hysteria August 13th, 2010, 10:37 am Ooh I'd love to see pics :) I love how theatrical they are (most of my fave live bands are theatrical) plus he has John 5 at the moment
MuggleGirl09 August 13th, 2010, 1:48 pm Hmm, can't seem to get the image up on here even after clicking the "insert image" button. :/
