leah49 February 23rd, 2011, 6:05 pm I tried to tell you that You're His Cheezburger is a party-killing song but no-one listens to me.
:relax:
It didn't force me to leave. It was that you timed it with me visiting my brother for the weekend. Now, if you had posted it, let's say, yesterday, I would have stayed and sang along for a long time.
baseballblondie February 23rd, 2011, 6:08 pm I thought that the Cheeseburger song made us all hungry so we raided the kitchens and forgot to come back.
LyraLovegood February 23rd, 2011, 7:38 pm I didn't post it; blondie did. Hopefully she's right in that it just caused a mass exodus to the Hogwarts Kitchens to ask the House Elves to make cheeseburgers for the next feast.
leah49 February 24th, 2011, 6:07 pm Cheeseburgers are good.
LyraLovegood February 24th, 2011, 10:32 pm I want one!
Taquiq February 24th, 2011, 11:19 pm I hate cheese! :eeep:

Yep, and milk.
LyraLovegood February 26th, 2011, 4:34 pm Well if you have some sort of lactose intolerance it makes sense, but for me cheese is an improvement to almost any recipe.
No_Name February 26th, 2011, 4:49 pm I like cheese!
Taquiq February 26th, 2011, 5:08 pm I am not lactose and tolerant.
LyraLovegood February 26th, 2011, 6:09 pm Well then, I just have to say to each his own. Me personally, I love cheese. And milk. And especially chocolate.

baseballblondie February 26th, 2011, 7:45 pm for me cheese is an improvement to almost any recipe.
Me too Lyra! I drink a gallon of milk a week. And I live alone.
LyraLovegood February 26th, 2011, 8:29 pm Well, at least we can all agree on the chocolate. Only person I've ever known who doesn't get :drool:ey over chocolate is my very own Beckafly.

twinsrule26 February 26th, 2011, 9:34 pm Toasted cheese sandwiches ,three cheese toast, mac & cheese, these are a few of my favorite things ! :D
APolaris February 27th, 2011, 4:49 pm You ever tried messing around with mac & cheese? I like this one I found in a cookbook that uses provolone, mozzarella, and romano as the three cheeses. It's sort of like a stringier, less creamy alfredo.
Also, there's that whole thing about mixing ham and peas into mac & cheese, though I kind of think that loses to pancetta & peas in carbonara.
LyraLovegood February 27th, 2011, 4:58 pm AP! Where have you been? I haven't seen you in dragons' years.

Oh my gosh, that sounds so good. I love mac & cheese and I love fettuccini alfredo. It sounds here like you've sort of combined the two.

Hey, I was reading that! :p
I'm a fan of cheese, just not too much cheese.
APolaris February 28th, 2011, 4:59 am Oh my gosh, that sounds so good. I love mac & cheese and I love fettuccini alfredo. It sounds here like you've sort of combined the two.
Well, it was really the cookbook that had the idea. I do however modify cookbook alfredo recipes a bit to make them creamier, thicker and more flavorful. It's really not very hard, honestly. Every cookbook I have wants to start with just melting butter and adding cream, when all it actually takes is making a roux with flour, salt, pepper and nutmeg before adding the cream, just like one would do before adding the milk with cheese sauces for vegetables or mac & cheese.
My favorite of the mixup recipes is actually simple: just add some torn prosciutto and little green peas to alfredo before serving it.
leah49 February 28th, 2011, 6:18 pm Heart attack time. My sister came home last night so she could use the washer and dryer (only reason she comes home, really) and today she surprises me by washing my towels. When she lived here my sister would procrastinate washing the towels. We both used them and eventually it would come to the point where I'd do them so we'd have clean ones and then wait again for her to do them since it was her turn. But, now, she's doing them without being asked or using them.

I'm not a good cook, but I'll have to remember this.
LyraLovegood February 28th, 2011, 6:31 pm Looks like even sisters eventually grow up! I wish mine would. Mid-thirties, and she still hasn't got the sense to come in out of the snow when she and her little boy have fevers.
I mean, what sensible person would nurse her child through a week of sickness, fall sick herself, finally start to feel better, and then go outside and build a snowman instead of staying in and having chicken soup and orange juice to make sure you stay healthy? Or go out jumping on a trampoline over and over again after not healing completely from really bad ankle sprain?
But most of all it's the theatrics that drive me crazy. It's like she's not happy unless there's some sort of conflict brewing. Me, I want to be the peacemaker in such instances; sis prefers to stir the pot so that everyone is even more upset than they were before she got involved.
leah49 February 28th, 2011, 8:15 pm :huggles: My sister and I still have awful fights. A few weekends ago she blew up at me because the dog she brought home (her roommate's dog) was barking up a storm. She blamed it on me. The dog didn't start barking until after she started yelling at me. Whatever. But, then there are times like this weekend where's all sweet and stuff.
LyraLovegood February 28th, 2011, 11:09 pm Sounds familiar. I had a terrible story about my sister and her dog vs. my boyfriend and my cat a year and a half ago, and she's hated my boyfriend ever since. I'm not allowed to even have him over if she's coming to visit my mom anymore. And she was always terrible to my brother's second wife; she made it so my neice will hate her stepmother possibly forever.
APolaris March 1st, 2011, 9:26 am I wish I even had sisters. One of my brothers is serving with the infantry in Iraq. The other is in Texas right now with his wife and baby daughter, but likely to be deployed with other air force medical personnel to Afghanistan later this year.
LyraLovegood March 1st, 2011, 4:32 pm I wish I had the kind of relationship with my sister and brothers where we could sit and talk about our lives and the world around us for hours, sit around the dinner table being cordial and polite at holidays, and laugh and play games and maybe do some music together. We did a few times when we were in our early twenties. But there are too many past greivances and hanging on to resentment for that to work now. I wish we would all let go of all that ugly baggage and just get along. But no, we have to have a drama queen that isn't happy unless there's something "exciting" going on, and a conflict-driven individual who feels that a good rousing fight is the only thing that really qualifies as "fun and exciting." :(
leah49 March 1st, 2011, 6:03 pm :huggles: AP and Lyra! I wouldn't know what I'd do without my brother and sister. My parents' families have baggage like that and only now is my mom rekindling a relationship with one of her sisters. This sister bought a life insurance policy for her mother and all the siblings (3 sisters, 1 brother) were to help pay for it, but a couple months went by where we couldn't afford it. I think other things helped this but I know this was the major cause. My aunt got mad and stopped speaking to my mom. We'd visit my grandmother for Thanksgiving, but my aunt would stay outside while we were inside and all this other ****. This went on for a few years. My aunt skipped Thanksgiving one year just so she didn't have to see us. :sigh: Finally, my aunt got over herself and started speaking to my mom again and now they talk on the phone. Not a lot, but it's something. She just called the other day to talk about her grandson (who was born one week before Lillie, my niece).
My dad's siblings just have emotional problems that cause problems. One brother likes to distance him and his family, but everyone's trying to pull him back in.
I'm glad and lucky my sister, brother, and I have remained close. Growing up I've seen siblings hate each other and siblings who just don't care. I'm glad we care. I don't know what I'd do without them.
LyraLovegood March 3rd, 2011, 5:57 pm Yeah, it's been over a year since I did a holiday at MeMum's because I'm not going to a family get-together if I can't bring my Sage. I just can't understand calling the cops over a year-old misunderstanding and turning it into a grudge match instead of just growing up and getting over it. Sis acts like Sage is some kind of dangerous perpetrator of DV poised to break her bones at the slightest provocation.
He would first be cordial, then ignore her until she provoked him in ways that can't be ignored, like kicking his bad knee or giving her pit bull unfettered access to my kitten. Then he takes control, and she pitches a hissy fit because it's not all going the way she wants it to. And then MeMum comes in on Sis's side and insists that he has to leave, even though he was just calmly insisting that whatever Sis was doing was really not OK.
:sigh: So now Sage is persona non grata, and I have to either stay away from home when she's around, or suffer her theatrics in Sage's absence. :(
leah49 March 3rd, 2011, 6:11 pm That's awful! :huggles: I'm sorry you have to deal with that. I'll pray for your situation.

Have you ever thought about maybe slapping some sense( Not really slapping her unless thats the only way to get her to listen) into your sister when she starts playing these silly games?. Try reminding her that you are there to see your mom not her and if she doesn't like your man ,she can go out for a walk while you are there .
LyraLovegood March 4th, 2011, 1:34 am My sister kind of made it a point to do these things while I was in the bathroom so I couldn't intervene until after the fact. :grumble:
And MeMum chimes in on Sis' side, and says my man is the one who had to go away. :(

twinsrule26 March 5th, 2011, 8:27 am Good Morning HCR
baseballblondie March 5th, 2011, 1:21 pm Good morning!
leah49 March 5th, 2011, 5:40 pm *runs around the common room chanting "It's Friday! It's Friday!"*
I got confused when I saw this. I thought today was Saturday. Did I get my days mixed up again? Then I noticed it was posted yesterday.
Happy weekend everyone! I'm going to visit my grandmother for her birthday, which is Monday. She'll be 79. My other grandmother's birthday is next month and she'll be 94, I believe. (I know I'm just rambling...)
LyraLovegood March 5th, 2011, 5:48 pm I kind of felt like it was Saturday all day yesterday. I think part of this was because I didn't have any Muggle Studies homework due (Muggle Studies homework is always due at noon on Friday, but this week's lesson is combined with next week's lesson and due next Friday). The other part was that the co-worker I usually partner with on Fridays wasn't there yesterday, and I was working instead with the girl I usually work with on Saturday.
So yeah, yesterday felt like Saturday. But today doesn't feel like Sunday, because I'm not scrambling to get ready for church. So, Saturday all over again. If only it were Caturday instead!
leah49 March 5th, 2011, 6:45 pm Caturday? Does this have something to do with small furry things that go "meow"?
LyraLovegood March 5th, 2011, 6:50 pm Yes. Caturday is a day when you don't have to do any more than your average pampered housecat has to do: eat, groom yourself, and lie around in the warmest most comfortable spot you can find. Caturday. Day of absolute zero obligations and pressures. In other words, sheer blissful relaxation.
No_Name March 5th, 2011, 10:15 pm I don't get this sudden cat-craze...
twinsrule26 March 5th, 2011, 10:44 pm I don't get this sudden cat-craze...
Its not sudden  there are two factions on CoS, Dog Lovers and Cat Lovers and as we get closer to April first they become more active because in past years on April 1 they got to try to take over CoS ( all in fun of course;)) The Admins allow some fun to take place on April Fools Day.
LyraLovegood March 6th, 2011, 6:13 am I don't get this sudden cat-craze...
Nothing sudden about it. CoS has long been infested by cat-lovers. >.<
leah49 March 7th, 2011, 5:40 pm Dogs are better...
LyraLovegood March 7th, 2011, 6:00 pm That's not canon; it's your interpretation only! Don't forget to couch such inflammatory statements with [IMO] tags!!
;)
leah49 March 7th, 2011, 8:40 pm It is canon. :p
LyraLovegood March 7th, 2011, 9:09 pm I want Volume, Chapter, and Page Number, missie!
leah49 March 8th, 2011, 6:09 pm Um...
LyraLovegood March 8th, 2011, 7:24 pm Just as I suspected; your opinions are entirely unfounded and based on nothing but raw emotion. Well, you can  over (and with) your slobbery doggies all you want, but I'll stick with my cuddly purring kitty cat.
:relax:
;)
leah49 March 8th, 2011, 7:35 pm :p
No_Name March 8th, 2011, 9:15 pm I choose to dislike both cats and dogs.
LyraLovegood March 9th, 2011, 12:44 am I don't see where that attitude is going to bring much enjoyment, but no one can make you like something you've decided not to like.
Lady Elven March 9th, 2011, 3:31 am *looks around the madhouse that is the HCR and shakes her head* is there no love for BOTH. I know its an unbeliveable concept. ;)
twinsrule26 March 9th, 2011, 6:21 am I've just learned that my home town is being used as a stand in for some of the shots in the JKR Bio movie that is filming . (Victoria BC Canada before you ask )
witchsmart March 9th, 2011, 2:40 pm That's really cool, twins! :tu:
Wait . . . JKR Bio movie? *ears perk up*
leah49 March 9th, 2011, 5:25 pm I didn't know you lived in Canada. Or maybe I did and I forgot. Why are they filming in Canada? Because it's cheaper?
BTW, I do think there can be love for both cats and dogs. They're both cute and fun. It's just that dogs are more cuddly and people friendly, from my experience.
LyraLovegood March 9th, 2011, 6:55 pm Sage loves both cats and dogs, but likes dogs more. Me, personally, I find many dogs are too overbearing to qualify as "cuddly." And I don't think it's "people friendly" if a dog needs to be taught that there are some people who don't want to be jumped on, crotch sniffed, and face licked by every dog that comes within twenty feet of them. I also don't think it's people-friendly for a dog to bark at people just because they're walking anywhere near its territory. Cats are more willing to live and let live. A well-trained dog will do that, but I've encountered too many dogs that had to be forcibly restrained from sniffing and licking and jumping on me to like dogs as a group. Please, keep it on a leash, and keep it away from me.
Plus I still say cats smell better.
leah49 March 10th, 2011, 6:18 pm I say people friendly because dogs do want to be around people more than a cat does. I'm just going by experience. My dogs are glued to me and love sitting with people. My sister-in-law's cat likes to play with everyone, but he rarely sits on the couch with anyone. If you try he jumps off.
LyraLovegood March 11th, 2011, 7:27 pm That's cool, opinions are fun, and the world would be so boring if everyone were the same. But when I sit down on a couch, I actually prefer an animal that jumps off the couch to an animal that jumps on me whether I want it to or not. There are affectionate cats who will look at you expectantly and jump on your lap if you indicate by patting your lap or something that you want it. Just like there are well-trained dogs who understand "no! down!"
But like I said, most dogs have to be trained to not jump on people.
Taquiq March 11th, 2011, 8:56 pm I love geckos! They'll sit on your shoulders for hours.
LyraLovegood March 12th, 2011, 5:39 pm I've never met a gecko face to face, but I would love to. They sound like cute and fun pets. Probably a better pet than an iguana or a chameleon, who have largish claws.
Taquiq March 12th, 2011, 5:43 pm Yeah, Leopard Geckos are really tame.
leah49 March 12th, 2011, 6:07 pm I've never seen a real live ghecko but my fifth grade science teacher had both an iguana and a chameleon. That's about as close as I've come to lizards (not counting the skinks that live in the area). In high school the teacher in charge of OM (Odyssey of the Mind) had a snake that we played with. I'm usually skittish around snakes, but I wasn't afraid of this one.
Taquiq March 12th, 2011, 11:09 pm Geckos aren't as bad as everyone says. They are not scaly (do not have scales) or slimy.
LyraLovegood March 14th, 2011, 5:13 pm I went to Petco to get Advantix for Tink on Saturday and saw a terrarium with Leopard Geckoes in. They are cute, but I don't think Tink would let one live very long.
:relax:
There were also half a dozen cats, and VickyLynnPotter & I decided we wanted to take them all home. That would have cost $690, though. :sigh:
leah49 March 14th, 2011, 5:56 pm You could become the crazy cat lady!
LyraLovegood March 14th, 2011, 8:17 pm It wouldn't be hard for me to do, really, if I had my own place. I think Sage might put a stop to it ever actually happening, though, as a) he's more of a dog person and b) he really would prefer that I at least cultivate the appearance of normalcy  .
Like that's going to happen! :rotfl:
Taquiq March 15th, 2011, 4:55 am Haha! Geckos and cats are not a good match...
leah49 March 15th, 2011, 5:48 pm It wouldn't be hard for me to do, really, if I had my own place. I think Sage might put a stop to it ever actually happening, though, as a) he's more of a dog person and b) he really would prefer that I at least cultivate the appearance of normalcy  .
Like that's going to happen! :rotfl:
I fear when I get older I'll become the crazy dog lady. I won't have lots of dogs, just two. But, I'll be alone and I'll be yelling at the kids to get off my lawn.
LyraLovegood March 15th, 2011, 9:18 pm So Tink had her bath this morning. I only have two war wounds this time: one very shallow scratch less than 3 inches long on my left wrist, and one rather deep gouge on the ball of my right forefinger (near the beginning of my lifeline, actually).
I found more than a dozen dead fleas in the bathwater when I was done, and more than a dozen live fleas still on Tink's tummy when she'd got herself half dry and was ready to sit on my lap purring (and obviously saying "I forgive you for trying to drown me") an hour and a half later.
So, as soon as she's all the way dry -- or possibly after I get home from sitting my Arithmancy final Exam, whichever comes last -- she's getting dosed with Advantix. Hopefully, that will kill 99.9% or more of the remaining fleas. And hopefully, I will get 96% or better on my Exam.
leah49 March 15th, 2011, 9:43 pm Good luck with getting rid of the fleas! Also, good luck with your exam!
LyraLovegood March 17th, 2011, 7:09 am I got 100% on my Arithmancy Exam. :D
Muggle Studies not so good; just 82%. But once again it's that automated grading Charm that needs to have the Professor mark "master patient index (MPI)" as correct if the answer key said just MPI, for example. Answer key doesn't understand the nuances of acronyms. So maybe my grade will be a little better after Professor checks it manually.
leah49 March 17th, 2011, 5:35 pm It sounds like your professor needs to do a better job of putting the answers into the system.
Lady Elven March 17th, 2011, 5:44 pm http://img-s3-01.mytextgraphics.com/sparklee/2011/03/17/39027c496017deb96bf3b4eda3db1bd6.gif (http://www.sparklee.com)
*sending mental pinches to anyone not wearing green*
LyraLovegood March 17th, 2011, 6:18 pm Elfie!! :huggles:
I'm wearing orange AND green. I are Protestant but not much Irish. SageRacer is 50% Irish and 50% German, but he can't keep a calendar in his head so he might or might not be aware that it's St Patricks today. Guess I'll find out at lunch time, and I'll pinch him all over (as well as kiss him all over) if he's not wearing green!
Leah: I don't think it's Professor's fault. Even the Professors who are whizzes with Angel interface -- in fact, even the one who's a personal friend of the design team and helped to beta-test the whole program -- can't get the answer key to recognize more than one right answer for a fill-in-the-blank question. Even if the question was "whose was the umbrella stand that looked like a troll's leg" and the correct programmed answer was Blacks' with a plural for the whole family, if you put down Black's with a singular for just Walpurga or just Sirius it would mark it wrong because the apostrophe is in the wrong place. It's that sensitive. Typo's really don't fly with this system.

KeepItDark March 18th, 2011, 4:02 am so, no "where's KiD?" posts? I've been gone a month! Tracking Basilisks at my family estate- larger than Hogwarts own Chamber of Secrets- has been very useful. Lovely amount of potion ingredients.
if anyone wants to know the real reason i have been gone so long, please PM me. i don't think this would be the proper place to post it.

It's like this, KiD: so many people have been not-posting in the HCR, we'd be buried in "where's KiD?" and "Where's Skary?" and "where's Lighty?" and "Where's the Awesome Ravenclaw Princess of the Strawberry-ness?" if we took posting time to ask. Plus the chances of anyone knowing, especially with elusive :slyth:'s like KiD, are slim to nil.
Very happy to see you though, just like I was happy to see Elfie yesterday! Where'd Elfie go?

LyraLovegood March 18th, 2011, 7:08 pm KiD ran away from my owl. I didn't think a woman who handles Basilisks would be scared by this: http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m206/LyraLuthienTinuviel/Eurasian_Eagle_Owl.jpg but maybe the piercing orange eyes were too much for her. :hmm:

twinsrule26 March 18th, 2011, 10:08 pm Places a big cauldron of Pepper-up potion by the door so everyone can take it as needed before the whole school comes down with the "coughing never getovers" (insert disease of choice here) .
Be well everyone (runs off to wash hands)
leah49 March 18th, 2011, 10:16 pm I do love spring as it means no more cold weather, but it brings the allergies as well. :(
LyraLovegood March 19th, 2011, 6:03 pm I'm hoping it's just allergies that have Elfie and Julia coughing and sniffling. Allergies are not contagious, unless there's a psychosomatic component to your allergic reactions.
I had a sneezing fit over one of the receivers that came back to the warehouse in van #7 last night. It was covered in dust bunnies.
KeepItDark March 19th, 2011, 11:00 pm Where's KiD?
a little late for that, no?
sorry i was writing down the remaining information regarding my basilisk....colony.
leah49 March 19th, 2011, 11:25 pm Oh, right. Well, have, um, fun with that.
Lady Elven March 20th, 2011, 3:02 am I'm hoping it's just allergies that have Elfie and Julia coughing and sniffling.
I was just evil laughing too hard. :D
LyraLovegood March 20th, 2011, 3:48 pm :huggles: for KiD*
Be careful with them baby basilisks, honey. They are dangerous and destructive!
And Elfie: behave. :stern glare: Leah, if we go practice Dragon Quidditch Beating, who's going to engorgio Piccolo?
APolaris March 20th, 2011, 4:46 pm There is no KiD, only ZUUL.
leah49 March 20th, 2011, 6:05 pm I don't know, Lyra. I don't know how to do it.
Who is ZUUL?

kathleen_hpffl March 20th, 2011, 9:16 pm Well then, hi guys :3 I haven't been here in almost a year! How is everyone? I see KiD and Lyra and Leah! <3 Remember me?!
twinsrule26 March 20th, 2011, 9:29 pm I think Zuul is the evil deity that the Ghost Busters had to defeat.
LyraLovegood March 20th, 2011, 9:43 pm Hm. I might be able to get Anhelda or Captain Mills to show me; they're the best at Charms in Ravenclaw House. Or Flitwick...
Zuul... I think that was the vewy scawy archdemon in the original Ghostbusters movie. The one who possessed the Sigourney Weaver character.
witchsmart March 20th, 2011, 10:42 pm Thanks for the tissues, Sinistra. And Lyra for the healing charm.
I'm hoping it's just allergies that have Elfie and Julia coughing and sniffling. Allergies are not contagious, unless there's a psychosomatic component to your allergic reactions.

You might be right. That does sound familiar.

LyraLovegood March 22nd, 2011, 3:07 am I remember you hpffl. I've been practicing the Engorgio Charm in the Bookery, Leah. I might need to borrow a muzzle or something from Dags before I take the Jabberwock out for practice on the Quidditch Pitch, though.

leah49 March 28th, 2011, 7:11 pm Wow, I go away and hardly any discussion! :p (My mom had surgery on Thursday which went very well and my brother's family came down over the weekend. I spent time entertaining them and catching up on sleep).
LyraLovegood March 28th, 2011, 10:01 pm Yay, KiD's back!
I was quiet over the weekend, too; there was work, and it was Beckafly's Birthday. So CoS took a back seat, and I only peeked in for a moment each morning while picking up a Lucius Latte from Cafe Voldemort.

I hate being kicked out of my own bedroom just because somebody more important than me wants to use the laptop+internet connection.
It's even worse when Someone is using a laptop application that has no need of web access. S/he could unplug it, carry it out of my room, and plug it in someplace besides where I sleep. But no, that would require too much effort (and also, you know, awareness of another person's needs other than your own).
I'm excited. Baseball starts in 9 minutes. Yea! :)

I have hours and hours of Ancient Runes to work on. Just the rough drafts are taking me two hours apiece or more, and there are five of them to do by tomorrow at midnight, and I have to spend about seven of the next 31 hours at work. And they have to be polished, as every error counts five points off.
All about those Muggle nutters who cut people up. ... I'm afraid the next one's going to be a triple bypass or something.
And to top it all off, suddenly I'm expected to be the alternate barrista at Cafe Voldemort. How did that happen? ;)

LyraLovegood April 1st, 2011, 8:18 pm Twins, once again, I must tell you I appreciate the flattery. I don't feel young or capable of much multi-tasking, but it's sweet of you to say such things.

Maybe the April Fool's Prank is that there is no April Fool's Prank. :scared:
I think the April fool prank is that the Mods & Admins are on vacation and allowing the board to run amok. But if you think Snape as a chibi pink Gary Stu would be fun for April Fools Day, try Cafe Voldemort. It's a bit of a madhouse today. So was the Snape LS thread last night, but I haven't checked to see if it still is...
ETA: Looks like all the April fool "Snaperolled" posts were taken out of the thread. So much for my "prank" theory.

LyraLovegood April 13th, 2011, 7:36 pm MeThinks Theresa might just be incurably grumpy these days. I'd try the Cheering Charms or a Euphoria Elixer, but sometimes someone just doesn't want to be cheered up, and there's not a thing you can do for someone who's being determinedly cranky.
Leah... Mostly I've only heard stories, but I have seen large groups of people making loud, happy noises in rooms full of color and activity. There are also cars that go really fast, usually outdoors (though indoor midget racing has an excitement all its own!), and also rooms with scattered small tables and food and stuff going on with people with microphones and trophies and door prizes and stuff. Um.
I'm more familiar with academia, though, which as everyone surely knows is so totally not the real world. There is a lot to learn, though.
APolaris April 13th, 2011, 11:50 pm I've got a busy couple of weekends for once.
This weekend: lakehouse in New Jersey to celebrate Passover with the Jewish family that first brought my parents together.
Next weekend: four-day trip to Raleigh, NC to visit my girlfriend's family. May visit some Durham school principals.
Weekend after that: two teaching job interviews on my old campus, plus a visit to the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens for the annual sakura matsuri (cherry blossom festival).
LyraLovegood April 14th, 2011, 2:11 pm APo! I was thinking about you last night, not knowing you'd posted in the HCR while I was at work.
I'd ask what's new, but you've already said. I hope you find some fun among all that business!
RE: girlfriend's family in NC: My boyfriend spent a half hour on the phone with his mom in NC yesterday morning, telling her how much we both wish we could fly out and see her and have our wedding in the mountains. I've been dreaming and wishing for that for years now. Just waiting for the bloody US economy to pick up again!

Yes.
Linkie. (http://www.autoracing.com/blog/midget-car-racing-gateway-to-auto-racing/)
Tony's really quite good at it. If I remember right from what Sage told me, there's an annual indoor event on dirt in a ginormous arena. I can't remember whether that's the Turkey Night race or whether it has another name, though.
Sage & I usually go in more for the outdoor circle track open-wheel racing classes, though. He does have several customers who race drag as well, and he was on Pinks All Out one time on his way in to Pacific Raceways last summer. I have it on videotape; he's very quoteworthy, saying that it's like "the Mardi-Gras of dragracing."

I want to go racing tomorrow! All my friends, including my fiance, will be at the racetracks tomorrow with their racecars in shiny new paint and decals for the season openers. Me? I'll be stuck in the DNS warehouse, counting sattelite equipment in tech vans. :(
leah49 April 15th, 2011, 7:36 pm I'm sorry you have to work instead of race, Lyra.
LyraLovegood April 16th, 2011, 7:01 pm Ah, well. Working toward better times.
When I have my degree I should be able to get an ordinary 9-5 M-F job instead of this crazy Wednesdays and weekends stuff.
I landed a volunteer internship at a Therapy Clinic. I'll be shadowing a Medical Office Manager. Finally, I will get some hands-on experience, applying what I've been studying for a year and a half!
And I'm praying SageRacer & all the guys will be safe at SouthSound Speedway today.
AldeberanBlack April 17th, 2011, 2:36 am Indoor midget car racing
I think it's way out of order for force midgets to race cars.
LyraLovegood April 17th, 2011, 3:16 pm
The ignition on our midget failed last night, so we did not get to race.

leah49 April 19th, 2011, 6:16 pm That stinks.
LyraLovegood April 19th, 2011, 10:22 pm That's exactly what I said.
The internship hours went well, though; I got to do a lot of the stuff I've been studying at school, like assembling charts and tracking billing & reimbursement. I'm sure the Office Manager finds it tedious after doing it every week for years, but I feel like I learned a lot. I think this will turn out to be a good thing. :D
leah49 April 20th, 2011, 5:44 pm That's good. :tu:
LyraLovegood April 21st, 2011, 2:01 pm So today I need to try to track down the people and the paperwork at the school that will cause my internship to officially count toward college credit. All in the morning, because at noon I have to head north with Sage for a Memorial Service. :sigh:

V_siddhesh, this is the Hogwarts Common Room. Students of every house can mingle here together. It's a place for fellowship and chatting.
LyraLovegood April 21st, 2011, 7:33 pm Here is where you make friends from any of the four Hogwarts Houses, regardless of which one you get Sorted into. We have a trampoline and a pool and lots and lots of books and games.
Just mind you don't pee in the pool, or Fluffy will eat you.

LyraLovegood April 26th, 2011, 1:43 am Oh not a whole lot. Got into college, life going well, read Sorcerer's Stone for the 14th time (not exaggerating there, I counted ;) ), things are good. Thanks for asking :D How 'bout you?
Not bad, still in college, though I found out this morning that I can apply for graduation! Only 29 credits away from my degree. :D
And when I'm not studying, I'm reading GoF, though I don't know for how many-eth time. I haven't counted.
SageRacer, on the other hand, is feeling bruised and bashed and under-appreciated. Seems a driver he sponsors blamed him for the weekend's engine troubles, and cussed him out loudly for all to hear at SouthSound Speedway.
I wish I could go see him and cheer him up somehow, but I have to be in Ancient Runes class (a.k.a. Medical Transcription) and he has to spend the next four or five hours working on another guy's engine. Hopefully this guy will be more appreciative. :sigh:

Hey sweet! I still got a long way to go for my Degree (I am shooting for an eventual Ph.D in Psychology, along with a possible M.D so that I can be a full Psychiatrist), but I hope that you get there soon ;)
Sorry to hear about Sage's troubles. Guy sounds like a bit of a jerk  (the racer, not Sage, obviously) Sometimes we just have bad luck, and we shouldn't take out our frustration on other people because of it. Shall I destroy him for you?
LyraLovegood April 26th, 2011, 2:23 am No need, Lions, Sage is quite good at standing up for himself and he let this driver know he was out of line and the other guy came off feeling rather sheepish on account of his less than savory behaviour. Hopefully Sage's reputation didn't suffer from other people overhearing the ranting, though, as sponsorship is supposed to bring in new customers, not give your past & present customers tales to bear!

Hmmm...well, good to hear it. Still...I feel that I need to destroy something now...preferrably with large explosions.
Everything is better with explosions.
Here, I'll prove it.

There, you see. My post is now far better then it would have been without the explosions :D

And now I must disappear for a few days as it is the last week of classes and the deadlines are suddenly much closer than they were a few weeks ago. :D :eeep:
