Well, here's a sorting for Frodo Baggins.

1. If you could spend a day with any Harry Potter character who would you choose and why?

I think I'd choose Harry Potter. We could discuss how each of us were thrust, through no will of our own, into unfortunate quests. We could relate our temptations toward powerful objects. We could talk about how much we hate the boisterousness that comes with fame.

2. Which Deathly Hallow would you choose?

For the Wand... I really don't think a weapon like that is for me. I'm not like Bilbo. And I remember when I thought I wanted to vanish, I would always find myself... no, it's much better not to speak of that. And I've seen what happens when the dead are returned to unnatural life. No, I don't think I would want any of the Hallows.

3. Which magical pet would you bring with you to Hogwarts?

I would bring my trusty Sam.

4. What would be your favorite subject at Hogwarts?

I think I'd find a particular fascination with the history of the magical world. I could compare it to my own.

5. If you could ask J.K. Rowling to write one thing what would it be?

To write dear old Gandalf into one of her stories. I'd like to see how he interacts with Dumbledore.

6. Would you play Quidditch? If so which position?

I'm really not the sporty type. All in all I think I'd just enjoy living my own quiet life. I'd pay a magic ring to see Sam climb aboard and attempt to impress Rosie, though.

7. Which magical career would you choose?

Nothing too exciting or too adventurous. All in all I think I'd be happy as a historian or an author.

8. What would your patronus be?

A fox... definitely a fox.

9. Which magical place would you most like to visit?

Without a doubt, Godric's Hollow.

10. Pick one house you would prefer not to be in. (Optional)

I'm gonna say Slytherin.

Frodo after the end of the story clearly. I think that he would be more interesting if you did Frodo either early into the story, or before he goes on his adventures.

Also, I think that this shows that sometimes question based sorting can be heavily flawed, because if I read this without knowing that it was Frodo, I'd say either Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff, but knowing Frodo as I do, I know that he would be a major Gryffindor (Just look at the scene in Elrond's council. How terrified he looked when he was looking at the ring, yet he still volunteers to bring it to Mordor! That takes true bravery.).

But, I think that I will treat this as though I don't know about Frodo, and just judge based on the anwers given here.

:huff: Hufflepuff!!! :huff:

horcrux4
September 3rd, 2011, 11:18 am
I don't think Frodo ever saw himself as brave did he? It would have to be an example of the Hat seeing past his external image and seeing the courage within, as it did with Neville, to put him in Gryffindor. Otherwise (again as with Neville) he looks like a Hufflepuff.

LyraLovegood
September 3rd, 2011, 4:01 pm
I didn't know you meant writing answers to the CoS Sorting Hat questionnaire for the characters! I thought just each of us would tell which House a character would be in, and why.

That's going to make it easier for me to Sort the ones up there I don't recognize--which is, um, all of them except Frodo.

I'd put Frodo in Ravenclaw from those answers. For the Frodo I remember from the books, it would be a toss-up between Ravenclaw and Gryffindor.

Incidentally, movie-Frodo would never make Gryffindor. Compared to book-Frodo he was a wuss.

APolaris
September 3rd, 2011, 5:21 pm
Frodo was never particularly an initiative-taking type in the movies or books. He was actually a very quiet sort who hated the idea of going on a quest like Bilbo's. Hence the fact that much is made of the differences between them in the books - Bilbo's one of the clearest Gryffindors in literary history, as is Sam. Frodo actually takes up the quest mostly because he knows Gandalf expects it and because he knows somebody has to do it. That doesn't show very strong individual will, but rather a willingness to put the needs of others before the self. The same is the case at the council of Elrond, as he realizes reluctantly that the others won't allow each other or themselves to do it after deliberating for hours and hours (not so much in the movie). A good argument can be made for bravery, and many other characters call him brave, but the fact that he's not the type to do it on his own is actually a major theme of his character in the books - it shows why he'd be the one to do it. Imagine the disaster if, say, Boromir had been the one to do it!

leah49
September 3rd, 2011, 6:21 pm
Knowing what I know about Frodo and combining it with the answers to the questions I'd say Hufflepuff.

horcrux4
September 4th, 2011, 12:35 am
I suppose Aragorn and Boromir are the archetypal Gryffindors, Gandalf more a Ravenclaw and most of the hobbits loyal, hardworking Hufflepuffs. Saruman definitely a cunning ambitious Slytherin. Faramir a Ravenclaw/Gryffindor mix. Eowyn and Eomer both Gryffindors. There must be some nice Slytherins in LOTR - they can't all be bad guys.

APolaris
September 4th, 2011, 6:50 am
Aragorn would probably be a Gryffindor. I get the impression that if there's a such thing as a "good guy" Slytherin in LOTR, the closest is probably Boromir. He DOES place a lot of stock in his father and his warrior's blood, at least until his redemption, and he DOES try to put his own country before the rest of the world... hence the part where he, you know, tried to take a ring whose destruction was imperative to preventing the end of the world for his own personal use. He's also pretty exclusionary towards Aragorn at first. Like Snape, he is redeemed (in a much more extreme sense) and therefore "good" in the end. Denethor is sort of a villain, but he'd be pretty close to a Slytherin archetype too. The Sackville-Baggins couple would be a "neutral Slytherin" example.

You know who'd be hard to sort? Tom Bombadil.

horcrux4
September 4th, 2011, 12:25 pm
I agree with you about Boromir - and Denethor come to that. What about the Elves?

APolaris
September 4th, 2011, 5:15 pm
Most elves would be Ravenclaws, but there are some exceptions. I think Glorfindel could belong in Gryffindor, as could Arwen. Legolas doesn't seem to really belong to any house.

 That's the best birthday wish I've ever seen.

I'm a bit late joining in, but based on the sorting answers I'd sort Frodo into Hufflepuff. Unfortunately I'm not as familiar with the series as I'd like to be, so I can't base this decision on anything I've read about book-Frodo. Then again, perhaps that's for the best in this particular situation. :D

As I can't decide what house Faramir should be in I thought I'd put him up for sorting!

1. If you could spend a day with any Harry Potter character who would you choose and why?

George Weasley. We've both lost a brother we were very close to and I think we'd get a lot of support from each other.

2. Which Deathly Hallow would you choose?

Probably the cloak. Green and brown is useful for sneaking round the woodlands but an invisibility cloak would be much better.

3. Which magical pet would you bring with you to Hogwarts?

I'm not much into pets so I'd probably opt for an owl because it is useful for quick messaging.

4. What would be your favorite subject at Hogwarts?

How to choose? They all sound so interesting! Maybe History of Magic - it's always good to learn from the past and not to repeat old mistakes.

5. If you could ask J.K. Rowling to write one thing what would it be?

A book about Harry's children - despite my last answer I prefer to look to the future rather than the past.

6. Would you play Quidditch? If so which position?

I'm sure I'd love to play. I think I'd like to be a chaser - part of the team.

7. Which magical career would you choose?

Auror definitely - ridding the world of evil wizards.

8. What would your patronus be?

A horse I think. Strong and useful and also beautiful in movement (not that I am but I appreciate beauty in other things!)

9. Which magical place would you most like to visit?

I think Hogwarts - there's a bit of everything there.

10. Pick one house you would prefer not to be in. (Optional)

No preferences.

Hm, this is a tough one. I'm not as familiar with Faramir (I have to be honest, I mixed up the names of about half the characters in LOTR). Maybe Ravenclaw or Gryffindor?

APolaris
September 7th, 2011, 6:06 pm
Faramir is Boromir's brother. He's also the son of Denethor, the steward of Gondor.

He's also probably the toughest LOTR character to sort, largely because he spents about a quarter of his book time unconscious and facing cremation. His personality is kind of Ravenclaw-ish, being heavily romantic and poetic; this is pretty well reflected in horcrux's answers too. His willpower also overcomes the Ring, unlike Boromir's (although they did attribute some temptation to him in the films). On the other hand, his actions show a bit of Gryffindor - he does lead soldiers against overwhelming odds in Ithilien, even taking down oliphaunts in the films, and he does ride back to rescue his attacked comrades while they're trying to escape in the books. This is also shown in horcrux's answer to 7 in particular. This inclines me slightly toward Gryffindor - although he's innately probably a Ravenclaw and would have been as a kid, by his age he's heavily conditioned toward the customs of Gondor and this defines his actions more than his personality does.

LionsDisciple
September 7th, 2011, 7:14 pm
Yeah, tough one, but I'd have to give Faramir Ravenclaw. He seems to just gravitate towards that naturally, whereas, as APolaris explained, his more Gryffindor-ish qualities have more to do with the culture that he lives in. Not to say that he is not brave, clearly he is VERY brave, but I think that he is still a Ravenclaw man, through and through.

Anyways, can I do one? Should I wait a while until we have given adequate time to discussion on Faramir?

APolaris
September 7th, 2011, 9:27 pm
You can do one at any time. This is a free thread. For all anyone cares you could just list a fictional character's name and work and ask what house they'd be in.

TheScribbler
September 7th, 2011, 10:08 pm
Although Faramir would do well in Ravenclaw, there's a line in the movie that made me gravitate toward Gryffindor:
"[The armor] belonged to a boy who spent more time slaying dragons then he did attending his studies." (Something of that nature, anyway... I don't remember the exact words.)
Sounds quite Gryffindor-ish to me. :)

horcrux4
September 8th, 2011, 12:17 am
I posted up Faramir because I couldn't decide between Ravenclaw and Gryffindor and thought you might all make my mind up for me! It seems we're all having the same problem! I incline towards Ravenclaw because in a society which wasn't particularly academic, he was interested in learning. His father rather despised that side of his personality, preferring Boromir's Slytherin/Gryffindor mix of ambition and courage.

LyraLovegood
September 8th, 2011, 2:13 am
Faramir was Ravenclaw. Especially for the reason in the post above mine. He lived in a culture where book-learning was not highly valued, but he was still a man of wit and learning.

That line about his armor and fighting dragons makes no sense whatsoever, in context of the books. There were no dragons in Gondor during Faramir's lifetime.

APolaris: that has to have been the oddest birthday greeting I've ever received. Thank you... i think...

That's right. Faramir is Boromir's brother. Boromir is the one who tried to steal the ring from Frodo, but was killed by orcs? Am I right on that? I did read LOTR for the first time over the winter. I've seen the movies, but they're even harder to keep characters straight.

Allright, Imma gonna give this a try. Let's see if we can sort...eh...how 'bout Peter Parker (a.k.a. The Amazing Spider-man)

1. If you could spend a day with any Harry Potter character who would you choose and why?

Harry. He understands what it's like to have the responcibility of the entire world on your shoulders, and what it means to be a hero against your will. That and he's nearly as much of a dork as I am :D

2. Which Deathly Hallow would you choose?

As much as it might not be the right choice to make, I'd have to say the ressurection stone. I'd give absolutely anything just to be able to speak with my Unlcle Ben one more time.

3. Which magical pet would you bring with you to Hogwarts?

Well birds and bugs don't exactly mix, and I've speant too much time in the sewers to have any love of rats, but I have had some good luck with cats in the past. I suppose that wouldn't be too bad.

4. What would be your favorite subject at Hogwarts?

Are snappy comebacks a subject at Hogwarts? No? In that case I suppose Transfiguration. Sounds like a fascinating subject and I'd like to better understand the mechanics behind it.

5. If you could ask J.K. Rowling to write one thing what would it be?

Just once I'd like to see a story that has a genuinely happy ending. You know, where no one dies, and they succeed in achieving world peace with no more crime. Is that too much to ask?

6. Would you play Quidditch? If so which position?

I suppose with my increadible reflexes and dashing good looks I could be a seeker. That and people don't tend to like to play nice with me.

7. Which magical career would you choose?

Choose? You mean I get a say in the matter? It'd be great to be a journalist for real for once instead of having to take pictures of myself covertly.

8. What would your patronus be?

Do you even have to ask?

9. Which magical place would you most like to visit?

Hogwarts would be interesting. There is a lot to learn in a new world. Hogwarts would be a great place to go to find out what's what.

10. Pick one house you would prefer not to be in. (Optional)

Yeah, I don't like snakes. Too green and scaly. Trust me, that is never a good combination.

:hmm: How would pretending he was fighting dragons when he was supposed to be studying scuff his armor?

I see Denethor's comment, meant to be perjorative, as more indicative than anything else: he called Faramir a "Wizard's pupil." To me, that still makes him a Ravenclaw among Gryffindors.

Re Peter Parker, I think he comes over as a Hufflepuff primarily.

APolaris

Next to Bruce Wayne and maybe a few of the X-Men, Peter Parker is the most definite Ravenclaw of any comic book superhero. At least, of the major ones. I don't know who any of the minor ones are.

LionsDisciple
September 10th, 2011, 7:51 am
I agree with that. Although Reed Richards might give him a bit of a run for his money. All in all, I think that Peter Parker could be a Hufflepuff, a Ravenclaw, or a Gryffindor. He displays traits of all three to a certain degree, but in the end I would probably put him just a bit more Ravenclaw then Gryffindor.

Makes me wonder what the other major comic heroes would be.

As odd as this sounds, I'd place Superman in Hufflepuff :) Him being all about truth, justice, and generally being a goody two-shoes, really pushes him into the realm of a Hufflepuff for me.

APolaris
September 10th, 2011, 5:00 pm
Superman really does exemplify Hufflepuff IMO.

In fact, I just realized I can't really think of any major superheroes or supervillains that would belong definitively in Gryffindor. While all (or almost all) of them are obviously brave, I can't immediately think of any that don't have character traits more dominant than that bravery. Maybe a few of the X-Men. Professor X seems a lot like the comic equivalent of Dumbledore, who himself was a Gryffindor. And he carries a similar "intellectual bravery" to both Dumbledore and Hermione. He knows he has to face both his powerful friend Magneto (who wants to pre-emptively exterminate humans to prevent them from exterminating mutants, as he knows they would) and the human establishment (which largely refuses to accept mutants, but he wants to challenge them civilly, not militantly). But he still chooses to take the burden upon himself. There's actually a pretty strong analogy here: mutants are to humans as muggle-borns are to purebloods. And both mutant persecution and muggle-born persecution are designed to symbolize the same real-world persecutions in their own universes.

Oh yeah, Cap is a mega Gryffindor. Sure he is smart, and very hard working, but above all he is the most corageous man in the Marvel universe I believe. He's my personal favorite super-hero.

I might also put Wolverine in Gryffindor, not because he shows a large amount of Gryffindor qualities, but because he shows even fewer qualities of the other three houses. Maybe if there was a house for people who were total bad***es, that would be good for Wolverine :p

Also, Green Lanturn might be a contender for Gryffindor. The Lanturn's powers are nullified with fear (or something like that, it's been a while since I have read a GL comic), so the best Lanturns have to be very corageous to overcome that fear in order to use their powers.

But in general, yeah it is surprising how few super-heroes personify the Gryffindor ideals.

Cap is definately number 1 as far as Gryffindor goes :D

Wolverine.

Well judging by the definition that was just given for Slytherin, yeah, but in general I don't think so. Slytherins are ambitous and cunning, which I have never seen in Wolverine. Cunning maybe, but only a sort of animal cunning, and certainly not ambition.

Actually, the Superhero whom I see the most Slytherin in, off the top of my head, is Batman (and yeah, I know that we already said he's a Ravenclaw, but hear me out). A totally ordinary human who thinks that he's got what it takes to compete with the likes of Supes, WW, GL, and the Flash? Yeah, that takes guts, and ambition. And the great thing is, is he's intelligent and cunning enough to do it.

On the total other end of the spectrum, asthetically, you know who might also be a Slytherin, but like the absolute best and most pure and good that a Slytherin could possibly be? The Doctor, from Doctor Who. And yeah, he's not comic hero, but I just thought of him and it strikes me as such that he is the perfect benevolent Slytherin.

Hi guys! So my boyfriend doesn't want to join CoS forums, but I'm really curious to see what house he would get sorted into, so I had him give me the answers to the Sorting Quiz. Can you guys help me out and tell me what house you think he should be in? I'm gonna go with Gryffindor, but with some heavy Ravenclaw tendencies. What do you guys think?

1. If you could spend a day with any Harry Potter character who would you choose and why?
Albus Dubledore. Aside from being the greatest wizard of all time, he has a demeanor that is admirable. I think just spending time with someone like that will make someone wiser and calmer under pressure.

2. Which Deathly Hallow would you choose?
Invisibility Cloak. A close second would be the Elder Wand... but let's be honest. A wizard's power is in how he uses his spells, not how powerful his wand is. The invisibility cloak provides yet another tool to a good wizard's arsenal against the dark arts.

3. Which magical pet would you bring with you to Hogwarts?
An eagle. So he could keep a sharp eye out for me and keep me out of trouble. Note from me: I think he kinda cheated on this one cause first years are not allowed eagles! But whatevs, I'll let it slide. Haha.

4. What would be your favorite subject at Hogwarts?
Defense Against the Dark Arts. I could see myself spending time outside of class practicing this one. Besides, I'm very competitive by nature, so I'm sure I'd spend a lot of time dueling and defenses could come in very handy there.

5. If you could ask J.K. Rowling to write one thing what would it be?
Nothing about the world she already wrote about. Something almost completely separated from Harry Potter, maybe in the past with other challenges like giant invasions which rendered most magic null. Or maybe something about why the wizards have to be kept secret, some epic war with humanity or something that ended with a mass memory charm. To be honest, with all her creativity, she could write something that doesn't even have magic in it and it'd probably be great.

6. Would you play Quidditch? If so which position?
Definitely. I'm quick, but eyesight kind of sucks, so I don't think I'd be a seeker. Probably a goal keeper or beater. I play fullback on my soccer teams, so I think it fits.

7. Which magical career would you choose?
If possible, professional quidditch player. If not, some kind of magical researcher would be very cool. Developing/designing new spells (spells to counter the dark arts, of course... who wants to make up a new way to clean a house or something?) is a lot like what I do now.

8. What would your patronus be?
An H-47 Chinook. It's the greatest helicopter in existence right now. One of the fastest made and has power to match it. Not only that, but it's sole purpose in life is the protection of all of us. It's in use in militaries all over the world. Note from me:  Clearly, he cheated on this one too! A helicopter is not an animal! But what else can I expect from a helicopter engineer?

9. Which magical place would you most like to visit?
The cave where Voldemort hid the locket. From the description it sounds very scenic from the outside. But more importantly, there is a lot of dark magic there that we could study and learn how to counter.

10. Pick one house you would prefer not to be in. (Optional)
Hufflepuff. No offense to them, I'm sure they're all nice people, but I just don't think it suits me.

Yeah, I agree, but I feel like those two could give a little insight depending on how elaborate the answer is. My answer to the would you play Quidditch question was something like "nope, I'm afraid of heights." So clearly not a Gryffindor. Hehe. And if someone answers that they would want to see the Hogwarts library so that they could learn as much as there is to learn about magic, then I think that would hint to a Ravenclaw-ish attribute. I actually really like the questions we ask.

If Gryffindor were eliminated via a person holding a very common phobia or fear, then candidates who'd never be allowed into Gryffindor would include Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, and Neville Longbottom.

I've always viewed fear of heights as a serious barrier to Ravenclaw Sorting, myself. In the Gryffindor Common Room, you can ignore the view from the windows and pretend you're not at the top of a tall tower. In the Bookery, the windows are all around, they're huge, and there's really nowhere to look that doesn't show the stunning view of the grounds and make it very, very clear that you're a long ways up from the ground. People with fear of heights would be very uncomfortable in the Ravenclaw Common Room.

I guess it depends on the level of fear. I'm terrified of heights, but not so much if I'm in an enclosed space. I happen to love the window seats in an airplane, for example, because I'm looking at the height safely from inside the plane. But I get frozen solid if I'm standing on the balcony of a high rise because there's no solid space between me and the possibility of falling. Lol. I'm strange. I don't think the Ravenclaw common room would bother me at all because I'd be on the inside looking out. Quidditch, on the other hand... yeah, that'd be a problem.

Would that make fear of the subterranean grounds for dismissal from Slytherin, or being a vegan grounds for dismissal from Hufflepuff?

Naturally. On the other hand, the fact that your common room is right next to a kitchen that's often cooking various meats, whose smells undoubtedly waft in periodically, could be a problem.

1. If you could spend a day with any Harry Potter character who would you choose and why? Ron – He’s just too funny. He would keep me cracking up

2. Which Deathly Hallow would you choose? Invisibility Cloak – I’m quiet at times, I like my alone time, and an invisibility cloak would help me in the midst of chaos, in the midst of frustration, in the midst of whatever I can get my alone/away time wherever.

3. Which magical pet would you bring with you to Hogwarts? Owl – an owl is wise. I’d need a wise person/animal to keep me out of trouble

4. What would be your favorite subject at Hogwarts? Herbology…I love plants and finding herbal remedies and how they were used in the past. I’ve got a green thumb that I’d love to nourish.

5. If you could ask J.K. Rowling to write one thing what would it be? I’d want her to write more about Harry’s parents. I want to know what they were like and the crazy stuff they got into. Granted it would mirror Harry, but I want to know more about their lives when they were younger from their perspective.

6. Would you play Quidditch? If so which position? Beater – I’m good at swinging bats, and my aim isn’t too off

7. Which magical career would you choose? See #4, the only thing better than learning about it is to actually continue it as a profession.

8. What would your patronus be? Monkey…I’ve been obsessed with them since I watched Curiouos George as a kid. It’s just the first thing that came to my mind.

9. Which magical place would you most like to visit? The Burrow – I just really love that its cluttered, and there is just so much stuff in that place. But everything is in the right spot.

Three herbs (sage, oregano, and rosemary) even grew back without being planted from last year. But we seem not to have been able to get any decent snow peas out of a whole row. They just kind of tangled around each other and browned. Everything else we planted did very well except bell peppers and carrots, although the cilantro died earlier than the rest by a few months. Are you supposed to put snow peas up on a trellis or something?

A trellis would work out fine or you could provide them with a frame made up of 4 pieces of 1" square stock .With two of them approx. 8' long and two of them approx. 5' long nailed together to form a rectangle with one of the 8' pieces at the top of the 5' pieces and the other one about a foot up from the bottom of the 5' pieces . You then use garden twine to loop the two 8' pieces together to form lines for the peas to climb up going from top to bottom for the whole length of the rectangle . Then you use a hammer to pound the upright rectangle legs into the garden and plant your snow peas alongside the bottom 8' piece of the rectangle so they will climb up it .

Good Luck next year.

Mangetout refers to the collective of both snap peas and snow peas. I believe the snap pea is a hybrid of snow pea and some other plant, while snow peas are very old. Also, snow peas are flatter. I think they're just about the best vegetable for stir-fry if not overcooked, and they're one of the few vegetables I can eat safely without overcooking.

I went to the Tuxedo renaissance faire today for the first time since 2003. Nothing quite like walking around in open air, surrounded by shops selling all kinds of stuff you rarely see elsewhere, people speaking in a Shakespearian manner (incidentally I had just finished memorizing Sonnet 116 last week), various adult puns that float over kids' heads, and most importantly, the rather droolworthy outfits worn by many of the female attendants (who quite outnumbered the males this time).

Oh, and while waiting for the joust to begin, I looked over a cryptogram and solved it in my head, no pen, pencil or any written substitutions for that matter. Here it is if anyone would like to try it: ITAWIGCVABF K XKT JY CW BKGWL CW GVCCVL ZJY SWTAJCJWT, GIC PJLYC CW GVCCVL ZJXYVBP. - NJBBJKX VBBVLF SZKTTJTQ. Hint: I solved the first name first.

Google gives the impression that scarlet runner beans are mainly good in potato salad, in bean salad, accompanying chicken, or as part of an Antiguan dish called Piloyada. I didn't even know Antigua had its own cuisine.

Purely as an aside, my car numberplate (letters only, excluding the numbers) scores 25 at Scrabble. I don't know anyone who scores more, at least not with British plates.

Oh shush, APolaris, you smarty pants. (Although I'm not gonna lie, I'm secretly jealous of you :))

Leah, normally I am too but I just discovered this website that's sort of helping me out. You type in letters and it gives you words with those letter combinations... I keep telling myself it's not cheating, I just need the extra help to boost my brain power for the future!
(...I am NOT a Slytherin, I am NOT a Slytherin!...)

I just played "vizier" for 48 points!!

I used to play Scrabble on my computer (a CD-Rom) and it had hints where it would show you what words you could make with your tiles.

I love playing trivia games like Trivial Pursuit and Scene It!. No one else really likes to PLAY the games with me, but they do like taking turns reading the questions off the cards. My sister did, however, take great pride in beating me in the 90s edition of Trivial Pursuit the first time we played it together.

LumosSempra
September 22nd, 2011, 7:30 pm
Oooh, have you ever played Harry Potter Scene-It? I would obviously beat all my friends in that game, so I'm sure no one would want to play it with me. :elaugh: But I'm dying to play!!

In Words with Friends news, my boyfriend just beat me on our first game, by 104 points. *dies of shame as Rowena Ravenclaw rolls over in her grave* :upset:
But, I just started a re-match! I got super lucky with my first set of letters, and played the word VINTAGE. All 7 letters used, and I got 63 points! That'll show him!

Interviewing at Long Island Conservatory tomorrow. This is probably my last shot at a job for the year, unless one of the leave replacements contacts me, other than tutoring. At any rate it looks like I'm not moving out anytime soon. If it weren't for the interview and the illness I've got I'd probably go join those Occupy Wall Street guys.

Lyra, it's a smartphone app that's pretty much exactly like Scrabble and you can play it with your friends via your cellphones (although I do believe they also have a Facebook version of it).

We can blow up this common room?! :wow: That would be so much fun!!!

VickyLynnPotter has a Scrabble game on her cellphone, but you can't play long distance with someone. You can either play by yourself against the computer, or pass the phone back and forth with another player in the same room with yourself.

I'd need to find you on facebook to play Words with Friends there... I have <10 facebook friends.

I still think we should make a plan to blow up the common room before the Mods decide to remake it. A Geminio curse on the books might be a good start...

What's the matter, Leah??

So the other morning I was listening to my beloved radio morning show here in Philly, and they were talking about the new Dreamliner that Boeing just unveiled and how it's made of composite materials. To be funny, one of the hosts of the show said "that means unicorn poop." I wonder, does unicorn poop have similar magical properties as unicorn blood? If so, then this Dreamliner is going to be awesome!

LyraLovegood

I've read that Unicorn Manure makes excellent fertilizer for growing magical plants. I'm sure that Professor Sprout has Hagrid bring some round to the greenhouses every morning.

It is indeed a very good fertilizer better even than Dragon , but far more expensive and hard to come by. So only a truly dedicated magical horticulturist will use it .

Here we go picture this ; Prof. Slughorn talking to student "Now Mr.William Griffin since you have been bad ,your detention is to take this bucket and shovel out into the forest and bring me back a full bucket of unicorn poop." ' Aw can't I clean blackboards or write lines?" whined Billy " No I want a full bucket and I'll know if it isn't pure unicorn poop!" warned Prof Slughorn.

Hey, I have an update on my dad- you know, the one who read all the plot summaries :grumble:. Anyway, I seized a rare opportunity to read the last few chapters of DH aloud to him, starting from The Forest Again, and I think he really enjoyed it! Whenever I paused he said, "Well, don't stop now! You've got to finish it..."
I expected him to find all these plotholes (because he's a critic), but the only thing he had a problem with was the fact the Harry dropped the Resurrection Stone in the forest.
"That is so stupid! What if Voldemort finds it? Gah! Why is Harry so dumb?"

However, I think I've managed to bring him closer to not finding HP a waste of time. Yay!

Your girlfriend is brave. As much as I've joked about shaving my head I don't think I could ever go through with it. Reminds me of the episode of Friends when they go visit Phoebe's real mother in Montague. Ross's girlfriend, I believe her name was Bonnie, played by Christine Taylor, shaved her head. She didn't it do it for cancer causes. She did it because it was much easier to take care of than hair (and Rachel told her she should do it).

I don't know about that. Having to shave your head as often as you shave your legs, for example, just to keep the hair from growing back seems like a lot more work to me. And this is coming from a girl who spends about 45 minutes straightening her hair every other day. :p

Check the House badge on the end of your Sorting Thread. Usually there's a link in there that will take you to the Social Group. You have to find the little "join group" button on that page, though, and it's really hard to see. But once you find it, you can click it, and you're in your House Common Room!
